The Blue Brain Project aims to create a synthetic brain through reverse engineering the human brain down to the molecular level. The project began in 2005 as a collaboration between EPFL and IBM to simulate brain functions. It uses a supercomputer called Blue Gene to model neurons, connections between neurons, and neural circuits in order to simulate a small section of the brain's neocortex. The goal is to advance understanding of brain diseases and potentially upload a human brain into a computer system.
