The Blue Brain Project aims to develop a realistic digital reconstruction and simulation of the human brain using supercomputers. It involves acquiring data on brain structure and activity, simulating it using software like NEURON, and visualizing the results. Larger supercomputers like the Blue Gene, JuQUEEN and future exascale machines are needed to simulate more complex brain networks and ultimately recreate human consciousness. Both advantages like helping treat brain diseases and disadvantages like security threats from computer viruses are discussed.
