Brief Description of Text Literacy Integration in the Classroom
• This is a demonstration to students of a syllable :
• “All words have syllables. A word might have one, two, or even
more syllables.”
• “Reading has two syllables: read (clap)—ing (clap).”To
demonstrate, clap as you say each syllable.
• “Blue has one syllable: blue (clap).”
• “Pumpkin has two syllables: pump (clap)—kin (clap).”
• “Now you try. Clap your hands for each syllable in the word
tomato
Integration of Text Resources in the Classroom
A video will show on syllables.The video will explain what is a
video and an activity of understanding what is a syllable.
After listening to the video the students will come up with six
(6) words that has more than one (1) syllables using the
method that is on the video.
After this exercise students will read on book on Jane’s Plant
her firstTomato seed.
Integration of Text Resources in the Classroom
• Students will read a book “Jane Plant her firstTomato
Seed”.They will take out all the words that they think has
more than one syllable and place them on aTomato tree in
front of the class.
• Some of the words are:-
favourite because healthy
potting
Tomato seeds garden swimming
Vitamins delicious flower seedlings
Decoding Text Literacy
What is decoding?
Decoding is the ability to interpret words by translating to sounds of spoken
language.
Few basic elements for text-based materials :
 Front Choice
 Background and Patterns
 Arrangement
 Check and revise
Decoding Text Resources
Decoding Activity
Students activity will be echo Reading.
This may be used enhance oral reading
fluency in the classroom. Read aloud one
or two sentences of a text at the child's
instructional level will let students
attempt to "echo" your reading. Make
sure to use appropriate phrasing and
intonation, running your finger under the
lines of print as you read. Have the child
go back to the beginning of the sentence
and read.Tell students to make their
reading sound like yours.
Encoding Text Resources
What is encoding?
Encoding is the process involved in changing a message into
symbols. As children learn to convert oral sounds and
language into text (spelling), they are encoding.

students develop the habit of making connections.This strategy
helps students comprehend and make meaning of the ideas in the
text.

A word might have one, two, or even more syllables.” • “Reading has two syllables: read (clap)—ing (clap).”To demonstrate, clap as you say each syllable. • “Blue has one syllable: blue (clap).” • “Pumpkin has two syllables: pump (clap)—kin (clap).” • “Now you try. After listening to the video the students will come up with six (6) words that has more than one (1) syllables using the method that is on the video. After this exercise students will read on book on Jane’s Plant her firstTomato seed.

  • 11. Decoding Text Literacy What is decoding? Decoding is the ability to interpret words by translating to sounds of spoken language. Few basic elements for text-based materials :  Front Choice  Background and Patterns  Arrangement  Check and revise
  • 12. Decoding Text Resources Decoding Activity Students activity will be echo Reading. This may be used enhance oral reading fluency in the classroom. Read aloud one or two sentences of a text at the child's instructional level will let students attempt to "echo" your reading. Make sure to use appropriate phrasing and intonation, running your finger under the lines of print as you read. Have the child go back to the beginning of the sentence and read.Tell students to make their reading sound like yours.
