Igor Fedorovich Stravinsky Research Paper
Igor Fedorovich Stravinsky was born in Oranienbaum, Russia in 1882. He was the son of Fyodor
Ignat evich Stravinsky. Igor Stravinsky is known as one of the best composers that Russia has ever
produced because of works such as Firebird, Rite of spring, and Petrushka. Stravinsky Career was
very interesting in that he was trained by one of the best composer of Russia, he was taken to Paris,
and he revolutionized music in his time.
Igor Stravinsky was introduce to music at an early age. His father was a bass singer in the local opera
house (White 3). He loved music since he was a baby. According to white he could frequently hear his
father, two room from his nursery practicing for a role (white). Even though his father made a career
out of music, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His first performance of Firebird was what put Stravinsky in the musical map. Even though the ballet
went well with the public, Stravinsky knew that he still needed to improve (Huizenga). After the
success of firebird, Diaghilev wanted Stravinsky to immediately start working on another ballet. To
his surprise, Stravinsky had already started working on a piece himself. This piece would be unveiled
in Paris France in 1911 as Petrushka. Petrushka in some ways shows Stravinsky finally reaching the
musical sound he desired. According to Teachout Stravinsky s Petrushka, Herald a Complete change
in the way musicians, and in particular creative musicians, thought about music. It freed rhythm once
and for all from old regularities, the old four bar schemes, and allowed it to react directly to variations
in the melodic phrase (Teachout 59). This is what Stravinsky had been working towards all along.
After his great success with Petrushka, Stravinsky started working in what probable became his best
known work Rite of spring. The concept of Rite of Spring had been in Stravinsky s mind for a long
time. He had this idea of making a ballet about the pagan sacrifices that would occur during the
beginning of spring. To show this barbaric tradition, Stravinsky assembled an orchestra that went
completely outside of the traditional tonality and intensify the essence of dissonance (Vlad 31). Vlad

Physics of a Car Essay
Physics of a Car
The average driver doesn t think about what keeps their car moving or what keeps them on the road,
but that s because they don t have to. The average driver doesn t have to worry about having enough
downforce to keep them on the road or if they will reach the adhesive limit of their car s tires around a
turn. These are the things are the car designers, professional drivers, racing pit crews, serious sports
car owners, and physicist think about. Physics are an important part of every sports and racing car
design. The stylish curves and ground effects on sports cars are usually there not just for form but
function as well allowing you to go speeds over 140 mph in most serious sports cars and remain on the
road and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Negative lift is created by front and rear wings on race cars and by ground effects and spoilers on the
average sports car. Most negative lift is used to fight inertia as a car rounds a turn. Inertia is the
tendency of an object to remain in the same state of motion (Murphy 77). When a car rounds a turn at
high speeds it often needs more force than it s weight to resist the car s tendency to keep traveling
straight. The increased downforce puts more weight on the tires helping the tires grip the road. Drag
force is the cost of increasing downforce. Drag force is the force acting on an object in motion in the
opposite direction the object is moving through a fluid (Yager). To most people drag force is simply
known as air resistance. The objective of aerodynamic efficiency is to maximize downforce while
minimizing drag force.
Acceleration and Speed are obviously the two defining characteristics of a fast car. Newton s three
laws of motion are an essential part in determining how fast a car will accelerate and how fast it will
go. Newton s second law is the easiest to understand in relation to a car s acceleration. Newton s
second law mathematically states Force=(mass)(acceleration) (Murphy 78). This law explains why
cars that need to accelerate fast should be relatively light in weight compared to other cars. Removing
mass, such as a bumper, radio or fancy upholstery reduces the weight of

Eraserhead
Eraserhead is a 1977 surreal, psychological horror film written and directed by david lynch. It stars
jack nance and charlotte stewart...... Eraserhead tells the story of henry, a depressed, isolated man who
after being invited to his girlfriend marys home for dinner is informed that she has given birth to a
baby. Henry and mary get married and soon after his wife leaves him, leaving him to care for his
horribly mutated offspring, all the while henry has bizare dreams and visions. Eraserhead is shot
entirley in black and white, against a bleak, post industrial landscape. The lack of color and any live

The chacracter of henry seems to have trouble in all these areas and desperatly wants to escape his life
and environment, his visions of a lady in the radiator, the only character in the film who seems
genuinly happy, seem to offer him an escape from his reality and ultimately his ill, mutated baby.
Lynchs use of surrealist imagery in this film is arresting, if not nightmarish at times. An example
would be the dinner scene when henry is asked to carve the chicken by marys father, as soon as he
sticks a fork in it, its legs begin to move whilst it oozes blood. In certain scenes we share in henrys
confusion and shock at the events occuring around him, a testament to lynchs direction and jack
nances perfomace. for most of the film henry is a passive character, alowing things to happen to him
without his intervention to stop them, by the end of the film however he determines to free himself
and does so in one of the more disturbing scenes of the

Soccer Is A Marvelous Sport
Soccer is a marvelous sport. It is a sport that virtually all know about, no matter where they live. A
sport that began long ago and has continued on for decades. Even if it is less popular in some
countries, it still has one of the largest fan bases in the world. As Kress Estime says in her report on
soccer, Soccer is the most widely practiced sport in the world. It is played in over 200 countries and
has over 3.5 billion fans around the globe (Estime). Soccer has held this title for a long time and has
yet to lose it. Perhaps there is a reason that soccer has gained the most sizeable fanbase in the world?
The difficult objective is finding out what that exact reason is and why it has happened. Could it be
stereotypical? Could it be the drama that is included in it? Could it be emotion striking the people
down causing them fall victim to the enjoyment that soccer offers? Could it be the inspiration from
those who have played the sport before them? There is most certainly more than one answer to these
questions. The history of soccer also offers a possible solution to this mystery. Cliff Potter briefly
explains soccer s history in his article for the Bleacher Report. He states, However, the first
indications of an early formal form of football date back 3,000 years to Ancient China. A game played
with a ball of animal skins stuffed with hair or feathers was kicked between poles some 10 metres
high and was most likely used for military training. By 50 A.D., the game

New Spain And New France In The New World
During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, New Spain and New France came to the New world
for two different reasons. New France came to the new world in search of a new west passage and
Spain came in search of gold and religious freedom. They both wanted to spread their religious beliefs
through missionaries. The Spanish were the first to establish large settlements. The Spanish had over
200 cities by 1570. The French didn t start colonizing until 1604. The first French colony was Acadia
and Quebec which came years later in 1608. The Spanish had a huge head start on colonization over
New France but they both thrived in their own ways by using Natural Resources and slaves. Slaves in
Spain were mostly Native Americans. New Spain valued Native Americans because they knew the
land. The Native Americans knew the land so well that farming was easy for them. Not only did the
Spanish enslave Native Americans but they also used some Africans for slave labor. The Spanish
colonies eventually used African slaves only because the Natives often died from diseases. The same
diseases the Europeans had brought over from England. Spain also had indentured servant who would
work for a couple of years. In exchange for their work they would get food, clothing and a way to the
new world. New France used Africans for slaves because they could get them in large amount. The
French had many plantations that requires a lot of labor and because African slaves were cheap they
had lots of them.

Essay on Shakespeare
William Shakespeare often examines the personal transformation of characters in his works. His
frequent illustrations of changing players most likely suggests that he is a true believer in the idea of
people being able to emotionally grow. Moreso, the author essentially endorses the thought of
developing humanity as a living being. Parallel to King Richard in Richard II, he illustrates many
characters throughout his works whom undergo similar personal growth. Oftentimes these personal
changes occur when a character suffers great loss in life. In this particular play these changes give the
readers a chance to develop a bit of fondness in the once ignorant king. Most readers would normally
accept positive changes within the mind and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This proves to be one of his first statements that allow the reader to view his belief in divine rights to
rule, and that he simply loves the authority that has been given to him. Richard realizes that for either
man to win, it would not be in his best personal interest. He proceeds to banish both Bolingbroke and
Mowbray, which portrays his dismissive attitude. Thus, he does not want to actually deal with any
occurring problems that he is supposed to, but simply hold the title of king and flatter his supporters
(who are, in turn, out to overrule him). Being the pinnacle of hierarchy in his country, he does nothing
to help with the problems that are arising. Instead of implementing ways to help people he pouts and
whines, which obviously do not help the reader to respond positively towards him. Another example
of his belief in divine rights is shown by his repetitive reference to himself as we. Richard states, We
were not born to sue, but to command; which since we cannot do to make you friends. (2.1.196 197).
The we reference is merely the metaphysical expression for his office as king (essentially godlike) or
both man and majesty fused as one. In the first act there are a handful of phrases where Richard s
name is juxtaposed by proceeding God of Heavens. This is to further reinforce the concept of his
divinity as the King. Richard believes himself to be immortal and this is why his tainted decisions to
sit back and do nothing result in personal

Hercules Compare And Contrast
In both the Disney movie and the written version of the myth about Hercules there are a lot of
similarities. Hercules is very loved by his father and he is also a demigod in both. In both the Disney
movie and the written version Hercules had to perform nearly impossible tasks. In both a girl named
Meg acted as a mortal god. Also, there are a lot of differences in the Disney movie and the written
version. In the Disney movie Hercules was born on Mt.Olympus and in the written version he was
born in Thebes. Another difference is in the Disney movie Hercules becomes a god by performing one
ultimate task. In the written version Hercules has to perform the 12 labors for Hercules to be a god. A
necessary change that Disney made was that they

On the 10th of May 1508 I signed a contract to agree to fulfill Pope Julius commission on painting the
ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. I had bad feelings about thewhole thing from the day Julius
commissioned me to paint instead of sculpt. I am anarchitect and sculptor not a fresco painter. It is not
that I doubt my ability s to completesuch a task, but I believe that there are other artists that would be
much better suited for the job than I. It is of course an honor to be chosen to paint such a ceiling and

To show the reality in this painting of Noah I will place him collapsed on theground next to a jug of

God s plan is for him and his family. Noah issuch a peaceful man with a lot on his mind and this is
how I will paint him. (Camesasca,

Immigration Problems

27 September , 2017
In 2013, 13 percent of the U.S. population was foreign born. Current projections suggest that by 2065,
nearly one in five people in the United States will have been born outside the country (Hing 25).3
Immigration has been an integral part of the United States since its colonial days. Over a million legal
and illegal immigrants take up residence in the United States each year. With the country struggling to
support the huge intake of new comers, life in America has been suffering tremendously. The
excessive stress put upon the welfare system, overuse of the family reunification laws, and the
exploitation of employment based immigration are reasons for immigration reform. The American
Government is trying to solve the deep rooted problems of immigration including the 1965 law, Chain
immigration, and Latino immigration.
Some factors from the past are widely responsible for the present immigration problems in the United
States. A major cause for all of the problems is the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act. The 1965
Immigration law prioritized the relatives of U.S. citizens, while others were not able to settle in U.S.
(Salam 24).2 The biased national origin quotas of 1920s was replaced by the 1965 law, which focused
on family unification ( Hing 25).4 This Act has kept some restrictions for the immigration from
Europe and Asia. The law set numerical restrictions on visas at 170,000 per year. But, this law has

in the muscles are at their lowest for 4 6 hours after training. The body needs more than 24 hours to
restore the content it was before training, and the protein works as a catalyst for the performance of
athletes where he plays an important role in increasing glycogen storage in the liver, which have a

The Main Fuctions and Features of The Integumentary System...
The integumentary system is a very important part of living. It consists of the skin and its accessory
organs hair, nails, sebaceous, or oil, glands, and the sudoriferous, or sweat, glands. Your skin alone
weighs more than six pounds and covers more than three thousand square inches. The skin to me is
considered customizable because you can alter it in many different ways. Many people pierce the skin
on the ears, face, navel, and genitalia. They also tattoo their skin with permanent ink. The five main
functions of the integumentary system are protection, regulation, sensory reception, absorption, and
secretion.
The first function of the integumentary system is protection. The skin acts as a protective barrier to the

This is because there are millions of nerve endings in the skin that act as sensory receptors. There are
many different sensations you can experience, including pain, hot, cold, pressure, traction, and many
more. Each nerve ending will give you a different sensational experience when the nerve sends the
individual impulse to the brain. When the impulse gets in to the cerebral cortex of the brain, your body
reacts in the appropriate way. If you experience pain, for example, you might cry. The fourth function
of the integumentary system is absorption. The most common use of the absorption factor is through
the use of a transdermal patch. A transdermal patch, not to be confused with a dermal patch, is a
medicated adhesive patch that is placed on the skin to deliver a certain dose of medication through the
skin and in to the bloodstream. An advantage of this method of intake is the dosage intake is
controlled by body heat melting away layers of medication embedded in the adhesive bandage, which
is a time advantage. A disadvantage is a very effective barrier and sometimes the medication is not
absorbed enough to be affective. Transdermal patches are placed on several parts of the body,
depending on what treatment you need. Many transdermal medications include a type of birth control
contraceptive and a medication that prevents motion sickness. The fifth and final function of the
nervous system is secretion. The skin contains millions of sudoriferous glands

President Jimmy Carter And The Iran Hostage Crisis
Mere minutes after President Jimmy Carter was out of office, the Iran Hostage Crisis, for which his
presidency is most remembered, was over. Behind him was a disjointed foreign and confused
domestic policy. When he left office, Carter s approval rating was 34 percent, and his disapproval
rating nearly twice that (Roper Center). Today, it seems that he is a better ex President than he was a
president, as evidenced in his founding of the Carter Center, his cultivation of his presidential library,
his contributions to Habitat for Humanity, and his numerous other humanitarian efforts. During his
term, he had a poor relationship with Congress, a low approval rating with the American people, and a
lack of cohesive international or domestic policy. I believe his two greatest failures are also the two
which marked his entire presidency and caused the drop in his approval ratings: the confused and
faltering domestic and international policies which lasted throughout his presidency and the Iran
Hostage Crisis.
Jimmy Carter was a one term president who won on a campaign of being not Washington and not
Gerald Ford (Hargrove, 1988). Shortly after entering office, his refusal to trade political favors with
members of Congress, unwillingness to learn the rules of Washington politics and play by them, and
the general lack of communication between his administration and Congress stalled any possible
working relationship. This cannot be seen as a failure on the part of Congress, who

Defense Mechanisms That The Child Uses Essay
Part A: Answer any 3 of the following questions: 1) Discuss 2 defense mechanisms that the child uses,
and whether each appears to be adaptive or maladaptive. Susana is in denial of her current situation
and uses crying and hostile behavior as her way of coping. As mentioned by Robbins et al. (2011),
denial is seen as declining to believe or perceive reality. Susana is in denial of her current situation and
tries to remain as the active child she used to be by interacting with her mother Jacquie as much as she
can. A reason why Susana is in denial of her situation is because she is often eager, has hope, and is
happy to see her mother Jacquie when she gets home from work despite her lack of presence as a
nurturing mother. Susana remains optimistic that Jacquie will be there for her and play with her when
she gets home. In this case Susana is trying to adapt to her environment as much as she can and her
efforts show that Susana is a very strong child. In addition, being in denial of her current situation
appears to be adaptive to Susana because she remains hopeful of her situation getting better despite of
the lack of motherly love or lack of attention from her mother Jacquie. Another defense mechanism
that can fit into the previous scenario is reaction formation . Although, Susana is not given the
attention and proper care she needs she is being happy about her current situation by replacing all the
negativity of not socializing with others as much, not having her mother

Descriptive Essay About Middle School
. One of the most terrifying places on earth is mount sinai middle school, I know what you re thinking
how can a middle school be scary? This school is filled with some of the most brutal monsters out
there, theres cheerleaders, football players and the worst the Hampton girls. These people seem to

If you do not fit in to any of the horrid social classes then you will be antagonized and harassed by all

A Line Between Sweet And Skimpy
You see a girl wearing a crop top and booty shorts that show off almost all there is to see, what is your
first thought? In the minds of most women it is, What does she think she is wearing? or I can t believe
her parents let her wear that. Some men will think the same; others will think more provocative things.
If you want to give them the freedom to choose what they wear make sure they know how others will
view them and what the consequences can be before you hand over the reins, but there should still be
an age limit. Middle school sounds sort of like a good time to start. The age at which a child thought
they should make their own decisions was at least 20 years old way back when, but that is not the case
in recent years. It seems that children are starting younger and younger these days and the age that
they start to make their own decisions is continuously decreasing. There has been word of some cases
starting even younger than intermediate high school (middle school). As Bruce Feiler states in his
piece A Line Between Sweet and Skimpy that his own daughters came to a family gathering in
provocative clothing when they were only 8 years old. This just seems ridiculous, it s easy to agree
that in all honesty people are not fully mature enough to make their own decisions until between the

MWDS Candide
Major Work Data Sheet: Candide
Title: Candide
Author: Voltaire
Date of Publication: 1759
Genre: Satire, Conte Philosophique (Philosophical Fiction)
Biographical information about the author: Francois Marie Arouet, better known as Voltaire, was born
in 1694 in Paris, France. Though his father wanted him to become a lawyer, Voltaire long held a great
passion for writing, and rather than going to law school, spent his time extensively composing poetry,
essays, and historical studies. His widespread recognition as an author was established with the
publication of the play Oedipus , a variation on the original Greek tragedy, in 1718. In 1726, after a
fight with a French nobleman, Voltaire was exiled to England. There, he was exposed to a ... Show

Voltaire s satire contains a strong sense of witful irony and parodies meant to elicit disgust at the
topics he is criticizing. Candide s sense of satire is largely derived from the Juvenalian satire which
was created by the Roman satirist Juvenal. By using absurdist and ironic images of characters, satirists
intend to invoke disgust or laughter at a topic to the point where it is rejected a legitimate. Thi is the
point with Voltaire s mockery of optimism in Candide .
Plot Summary: Candide is a tale told in a fast paced series of episodic adventures. The opening
chapter establishes the Edenic innocence of the background in which the protagonist, Candide, is
raised. Leading a privileged, isolated existence in a Westphalian castle, Candide finds himself in love
with Cunegonde, daughter of the Baron of the castle. He is also eagerly indoctrinated with Leibnizian
optimism by his tutor, Pangloss, who, in turn, is in love with Paquette, the chambermaid of the castle.
After openly showing his affection for Cunegonde, Candide, not being of noble enough blood, is
promptly expelled by the Baron, and involuntarily sets out upon his own into the world. Candide s
first major adventure is his unintentional recruitment into the Bulgar army, which exposes him to the
terrors of physical and sexual abuse, as well as the shocking violence of warfare. After managing to
escape the army, Candide comes across a kind Anabaptist, Jacques, as well as Pangloss, who has been

March 8th Research Paper
March 8th is International Women s Day, defined by YES! Magazine as: a day started on March 8,
1857, in New York City by Garment workers who staged a protest against inhumane working
conditions and low wages. Despite being attacked and dissolved by police officers, the movement
continued. By 1908 the movement had grown to 15,000 women in the New York City march alone. It
also expanded to include child labor, shorter working hours, and voting rights. The slogan for this rally
became Bread and Roses with bread symbolizing economic security and roses for better living
standards. May 1908, the Socialist party named the first International Working Women s Day on the
last Sunday in February. The date has moved around slightly but remains around the first of March, so
it makes sense for it to be on March 8th. http://www.yesmagazine.org/people power/where did

A Report On Foodborne Disease
According to foodborne disease Annual reports in New Zealand of 2014, about 524 cases (49.9%) of
foodborne disease were recorded in commercial food operator settings like restaurants, takeaways,
mobile stalls, supermarkets and other food outlet (Annual report concerning foodborne disease in New
Zealand, 2014). This shows that there were high number of outbreaks reported in New Zealand related
to food bacteria s and micro organisms. As there were many foodborne outbreaks noted in New
Zealand, government has set some strict food safety laws and regulations in the country. According to
the report from New Zealand food safety authority; people who manufacture, handle, prepare or sell
food from any mobile food stall are subject to food safety laws and regulations. It is illegal to sell food
which is not safe which can cause illness to the customer. Food stalls and mobile food truck should
have food and safety licence to operate so that the local health department can track the truck for
inspection and the grades provided to the truck helps to increase the sale of the product and assured
customers to eat safe and healthy meal on board. Employees should maintain good personal hygiene
(use gloves while handling the food, use hair caps to avoid contamination, work tops and sinks must
be kept clean) (New Zealand food safety authority, 2016). This shows that the New Zealand
government works hard to control the foodborne outbreaks reported in the country by starting new

A two dimensional digital image is a representation of an image as a set of digital values, called
pixels. Each pixel is associated to a specific position X_ij in the image and has an intensity value d
(X_ij ) with information about the color and intensity at the point〖 X〗_ij. An image of 8 bit is
usually stored as a matrix with integer entries between 0 and 255, where 0 is the weakest intensity and
255 is the strongest. Gray scale images are composed of shades of gray. Each pixel has a single value
that tells us intensity, varying from 0 corresponding to black and 255 corresponding to white. The
RGB color model is one possible model in which to represent a color image. Shades of red, green and
blue are combined create other colors. A pixel in color image then consists of three integer values

Political Ideas of Niccolo Machiavelli, Francesco Guicciardini, and Thomas Hobbes
The sections that I will be presenting are 73, 74, and 75. I will discuss the political ideas of Niccolo
Machiavelli, Francesco Guicciardini, and Thomas Hobbes during the time of Florence Republic. First,
Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy in 1469 at a time when the country was in political
upheaval. Italy was divided between four dominant city states, by which each of them was always at
the mercy of the continual changing of princes and governments.
In Donald Kelley s Version of History, the Medici family had brought a form of stability to Florence,
but the golden age of Florentine republic soon declined after the death of Lorenzo ... Show more

Machiavelli recognizes Lycurgus of deserving the highest praise for the governing of Sparta in
distributing power to the king, the nobles, and the people. He established a government, which lasted
for over eight hundred years. Machiavelli uses the Roman Empire as an example because they
conquered the world and held their power for over a thousand years. They accomplished this from
having strength and stability. Florence needs to replicate the ideologies of Rome in order to become as
powerful and great. Machiavelli wants Florence to adopt these patterns so that ultimately Florence will
have the same success as Rome. In short, I think Machiavelli is emphasizing the importance of
decisive action and courage. He uses bold writings to encourage men, so that they will build a safe and
stable world for people.
Francesco Guicciardini: Section 74 Francesco Guicciardini was born in 1483 and died in 1540, like
Machiavelli he worked for government of Florence and wrote about the history of his city and country
as well as about the politics of his time. His philosophies toward politics were formed after the
invasion of the French invasions of 1494. Francesco and Machiavelli had one thing in common their
love for the city of Florence. However, unlike Machiavelli who chooses to use examples of past
empires to talk about history. Guicciardini finds that to judge

Purpose of the Study The purpose of the study is to see whether there is a link between middle school
students who are active on social media and cyberbullying. An in depth study will be performed to see
which, if any, outside sources contribute to cyberbullying or being a cybervictim.
Justification of the Study
As the number of teenagers logged into social media accounts increases the number of opportunities to
perpetrate or be the victim of cyberbullying also increases. A few of the main outlets for cyberbullying
are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, instant messenger, or text messages. The term bullying
has been a staple in the English language for centuries, but cyberbullying is a fairly new term.
Roberto, Eden, Savage, Ramos Salazar, and Deiss (2014) reported that 74% of teenagers have an
account on at least one social media site, but all social media site require a minimum age of 13 years
old. In reality, 7.5 million Facebook accounts are operated by someone under 13 years old, and 5
million accounts are operated by a child under the age of 10 (Roberto et al., 2010).
Cyberbullying give a new spin to bullying; therefore, the number of individuals affected by either type
of bullying, especially middle school aged are increasing. Whether it is traditional bullying or
cyberbullying, it cannot be taken lightly due to the consequences. In several cases, students who are a
victim of cyberbullying feel humiliated in school

combination of emptiness, high ceilings, and a large doorway into the actual store does a great job of
inviting customers and keeping them in. However, Walmart almost ruins their own use of the

Roman Civilization, Political, And Fall Of The Renaissance
Between 500 BCE and 500 CE, the Roman civilization experienced changes both politically,
economically, and socially. The collapse was a period in the fifth century AD, during which the
Roman Empire collapsed in the wake of civil war, foreign invasion from barbaric tribes, plagues that
would strike the population, economic depression that would lead to a collapse in the economy, and
poor leadership. It would result in a collapse of Roman governmental authority. While the Roman
Empire survived the Crisis of the Third century and recovered, it emerged from the crisis
fundamentally changed. Thus the Crisis of the Third Century was one of the major turning points in
Roman history whilst shifting old traditional ideas of Rome into a greater progressive ideology, which
would result to the collapse of the Roman Empire. One cause that can be seen is Rome s sheer size.
The problem of succession was never clear as one emperor succeeded another every few years on
average. The urban rural imbalance saw immense gaps between the commons and the upper class that
leads to economic instability. Rome was an empire built on cities as the cities have drained off the
energy of the productivity of the countryside. It was an empire whose Roman population was less
dominant, partly through its own success in co opting other peoples. Some of the people that the
Roman army had homogenized we re not actually originally inhabitants of the empire. Particularly,
this is visible in the armies, which

Tropical Deforestation and Its Effect on Global Climate...
Tropical Deforestation and Its Effect on Global Climate
Abstract
Rainforests are the predominant natural vegetation throughout the wet tropics. The defining
characteristics of a tropical rainforest are temperature and rainfall. Wherever temperature is high
enough and rainfall heavy and regular enough, there is rainforest (Bagheera, 1996). Tropical
rainforests of all kinds once covered approximately 14 percent of the Earth s surface, more than eight
million square miles (Conservation International, 1998); forming an equatorial green belt around the
Earth rich in diverse plant and animal species. Humans have already destroyed half of this forest area,
with most damage occurring in the last 200 years (Bagheera, 1996). In 1987 alone ... Show more

In contrast to destructive practices that profit a few but destroy the forest for all, intact tropical
rainforests provide long term, widely distributed benefits. These benefits include increased
biodiversity, protection of wildlife, food, fuel, medicines, building materials, and global climate
stabilization (Bagheera, 1996,p.2). Due to the magnitude of tropical deforestation that has occurred, its
potential affect on loss of biodiversity and alteration of world climate, this is arguably the most
important global conservation issue today (Kricher, 1997).
Discussion
Global warming and tropical deforestation have a symbiotic relationship, each being a causal factor
for the breakdown of the other. For each hectare of forest that is cleared and burned, about 220 tons of
carbons are released into the atmosphere (Holloway, 1993). Carbon is released primarily in the form
of CO2, carbon dioxide, with the burning of fallen vegetation from cleared forest. In addition, the
cleared forest is no longer there to act as a sink for carbon dioxide to take it up in the process of
photosynthesis (Kricher, 1997). The build up of carbon dioxide causes sunlight to be trapped in the
atmosphere and through the greenhouse effect the Earth s temperature rises (Myers, 1979). Over the
past century the global average temperature has already increased by about half a

This is also an issue because OCI can always lower the price of its own brand to create more sales.
Chin must think about who would spend more on PPI s brand when OCI has a similar quality for a
lower price?
Another issue is that there are many competitors out there. These competitors are hungry for business
and they are willing to undercut PPI s price and loose profit just for the business. She must look at
what the competitors are offering to the consumers so she can see if she can cut PPI s price down to
match the competitors price while continuing to maintain an acceptable profit.
Central Problem
After evaluating a number of issues that affect PPI it all comes to one central problem, how can Chin
keep OCI at a relevant level of sales without loosing business to competitors? This includes deciding
on the details of a contract, compromising company policy, forming a buying contract with OCI, and
considering other market options. Diane needs to present the benefits of contracting with OCI to the

deciding not to form a contract with OCI. This needs to be done by showing the contrast between
different implications for accepting and denying OCI s request while stressing benefits of contracting.

political matters, and said, There was a very thin barrier ... between music and politics at that point in
time. That was the mechanism by which politics were getting expressed in that day (John Antonelli
Interview Transcript, 3). Through music he was able to learn about the events that were happening
outside of campus, and he was able to learn the national issues that were occurring throughout
America. Antonelli and his friends were able to bring in music performers, Country Joe and The Fish,
to campus and exposed the large unpoliticized student body of the social political issues happening in
the United States with Country Joe s Vietnam Rag song. Many students were influenced by musical
guest performers Antonelli and his friends were able to bring to campus to perform and joined the
Counterculture movement that was happening on campus. As mentioned before, Antonelli and his
friends were able to attend the Woodstock Festival. Antonelli would write an article on the first issue
of the college s newspaper on Woodstock and what he learn from there about the cultural and political
issues from the songs they heard such as the Vietnam War and student rights on campus. The
newspaper caught some attention to the student body and joined the Counterculture movement that
was happening on

The Events Of The War On Terror
Miller Porter Sgt. A. Pedry research paper 9/11 was a major focal point on the war on terror. It
changed America in many ways. There are two main view point s that will be gone over in this
research paper. The first and the most vital will be cultural historical viewpoint because it change
Americas culture and how the viewed the world in a major way. The next but less prominent is top
down because in this research paper I will be talking about how the people in charge reacted to the
events that unfolded in 911 how their decisions shaped the world that is today. These will be the
historical viewpoints that will be shown in my research paper. The events of 911 changed America
culturally in multiple ways. It also brought American people in the light of a new threat, terrorism.
This changed America s outlook drastic. On September, 11, 2001,multiple Al Qaeda terrorists boarded
three passenger planes and then hijacked the planes and carried out suicide attacks against the World
Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, DC., killing everyone on board the
planes and nearly 3,000 people on the ground. A fourth plane crashed into a Pennsylvania field, after
passengers and crew attempted to take control from the hijackers. These attacks were symbolic attacks
against the United States and its people. Not only had it been a psychological attack, it was the first
attack in a long time that it happened on US soil. The terrorists were also making symbolic attacks

Essay On The Roaring Twenties
The 1920 s were a time of drastic change in America. All of the inventions that were made and all the
new laws were passed during this time was a major factor of the 20s. It was also the time of The Jazz
Age and the flappers. But the 20s had a negative aspect to it which people call the dark side of the
twenties . Crime rates were increasing because of the prohibition of alcohol. People began configuring
groups and fought against others to win control over a specific area. Nathan Leopold and Richard
Loeb were two of the many people who strived to commit the best crime they could think of, but the
crime they committed was brought to trial and ended up being known as the trial of the century.
Leopold and Loeb both came from wealthy families ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They poured hydrologic acid on the body and burnt his clothing. Unfortunately for them, that did not
work out because Franks body was found and the police informed Bobby s parents before they were
able to give Leopold and Loeb the ransom that they asked for. Because of the obvious evidence that
was found, like Leopold s glasses lying next to Bobby s body, and the ransom letter that had been
typed with the same typewriter as the one he uses in school, they had no choice but to confess that
they were guilty. Clarence Darrow was hired to defend Leopold and Loeb during the trial. Darrow was
very well known and he had a respectable reputation. It was a bit of a surprise when he accepted the
offer of being the defendant for this trial because he usually defends the underprivileged and people
who have no money. Darrow claimed that his central reason of why he accepted this trial was because
he wanted to make the point that the death penalty is never the answer because it does not deter
criminals from committing more crimes. Darrow made the wise choice of making Leopold and Loeb
plead guilty in order for the judge to make the decision instead of the jury. He brought in psychiatrists
and they described Leopold and Loeb as mentally ill. Later, the state brought in psychiatrists and
proved that they were completely

Jim Crow, By John Crow Essay
Jim Crow was a character portrayed in Minstrelsy shows to be goofy, drunk, lazy, and uneducated.
This character set a very harsh stereo type for African Americans. Jim Crow became a common racial
slur. According to Dr. David Pilgrim of Ferris State University by 1838, the term Jim Crow was being
used as a slur for African Americans which was not as offensive as nigger, but more similar to coon or
darkie (Pilgrim, David, Dr. Who Was Jim Crow. ). According to PBS Jim Crow was named after a
popular 19th century minstrel song that stereotyped African Americans, Jim Crow came to personify
the system of government sanctioned racial oppression and segregation in the United States ( The Rise
and Fall of Jim Crow. PBS.). The Jim Crow character created by Thomas Dartmouth Daddy Rice
along with the song and dance created an image or stereotype of the African American man that
helped reinforce the belief that African Americans were lazy, stupid, and overall less human.
Therefore, they were unworthy of integration (Pilgrim, David, Dr. Who Was Jim Crow. ). This idea set
the stage for the Jim Crow laws.
The song Jim Crow written by Rice started off like this
Come listen all you galls and boys,
I m going to sing a little song,
My name is Jim Crow.
Weel about and turn about and do jis so,
Eb ry time I weel about I jump Jim Crow.
As shown above even the lyrics of the song had an accent to them that portrayed a person who was
uneducated. One of the Jim Crow

Sea Buckthorn Essay
Interactions Although the use of sea buckthorn has no established interactions as a food form,
suppository, or with topical application, it is possible that unknown interactions exist. When taken
internally as an oil or oil capsule, interactions with sea buckthorn have been noted. These interactions
have been observed with certain herbs and dietary supplements, drugs, and some diseases or
conditions.
Interactions with Herbs and Dietary Supplements Sea buckthorn oil can decrease platelet aggregation.
Use of sea buckthorn with other herbs that effect platelet aggregation can increase the risk of bleeding.
Identified herbs and supplements include angelica, clove, danshen, feverfew, fish oil, garlic, ginger,

Interactions with Drugs When taken with aspirin, anticoagulants (Warfarin, Heparin, Lovenox),
antiplatelet drugs (Plavix), and NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Naprosyn, Aleve), the additive
effects of sea buckthorn demonstrates a moderately high risk for bleeding. Additionally, the use of sea
buckthorn combined with antihypertensive drugs such as Capoten, Vasotec, Cozaar, Cardizem, and
Lasix may increase the effect of these drugs, dangerously lowering blood pressure. Extreme caution
should be exercised with concomitant use of either combination and a physician should be consulted.
Individuals taking drugs for diabetes by mouth or insulin, should exercise caution when using sea
buckthorn. Sea buckthorn is known to lower blood sugar levels and medication adjustments may be
necessary. Sea buckthorn oil should also be used cautiously with antiulcer medications due to possible
additive effects. Furthermore, it may significantly reduce the effect of immunosuppressant drugs and
antibiotics. Sea buckthorn may also prove an additive effect on chemotherapy drugs based on
concomitant use.

  • 2. Igor Fedorovich Stravinsky Research Paper Igor Fedorovich Stravinsky was born in Oranienbaum, Russia in 1882. He was the son of Fyodor Ignat evich Stravinsky. Igor Stravinsky is known as one of the best composers that Russia has ever produced because of works such as Firebird, Rite of spring, and Petrushka. Stravinsky Career was very interesting in that he was trained by one of the best composer of Russia, he was taken to Paris, and he revolutionized music in his time. Igor Stravinsky was introduce to music at an early age. His father was a bass singer in the local opera house (White 3). He loved music since he was a baby. According to white he could frequently hear his father, two room from his nursery practicing for a role (white). Even though his father made a career out of music, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His first performance of Firebird was what put Stravinsky in the musical map. Even though the ballet went well with the public, Stravinsky knew that he still needed to improve (Huizenga). After the success of firebird, Diaghilev wanted Stravinsky to immediately start working on another ballet. To his surprise, Stravinsky had already started working on a piece himself. This piece would be unveiled in Paris France in 1911 as Petrushka. Petrushka in some ways shows Stravinsky finally reaching the musical sound he desired. According to Teachout Stravinsky s Petrushka, Herald a Complete change in the way musicians, and in particular creative musicians, thought about music. It freed rhythm once and for all from old regularities, the old four bar schemes, and allowed it to react directly to variations in the melodic phrase (Teachout 59). This is what Stravinsky had been working towards all along. After his great success with Petrushka, Stravinsky started working in what probable became his best known work Rite of spring. The concept of Rite of Spring had been in Stravinsky s mind for a long time. He had this idea of making a ballet about the pagan sacrifices that would occur during the beginning of spring. To show this barbaric tradition, Stravinsky assembled an orchestra that went completely outside of the traditional tonality and intensify the essence of dissonance (Vlad 31). Vlad says that ... The average driver doesn t have to worry about having enough downforce to keep them on the road or if they will reach the adhesive limit of their car s tires around a turn. These are the things are the car designers, professional drivers, racing pit crews, serious sports car owners, and physicist think about. Physics are an important part of every sports and racing car design. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Negative lift is created by front and rear wings on race cars and by ground effects and spoilers on the average sports car. Most negative lift is used to fight inertia as a car rounds a turn. Inertia is the tendency of an object to remain in the same state of motion (Murphy 77). When a car rounds a turn at high speeds it often needs more force than it s weight to resist the car s tendency to keep traveling straight. The increased downforce puts more weight on the tires helping the tires grip the road. Drag force is the cost of increasing downforce. Drag force is the force acting on an object in motion in the opposite direction the object is moving through a fluid (Yager). To most people drag force is simply known as air resistance. The objective of aerodynamic efficiency is to maximize downforce while minimizing drag force. Acceleration and Speed are obviously the two defining characteristics of a fast car. Newton s three laws of motion are an essential part in determining how fast a car will accelerate and how fast it will go. Newton s second law is the easiest to understand in relation to a car s acceleration. Newton s second law mathematically states Force=(mass)(acceleration) (Murphy 78). This law explains why cars that need to accelerate fast should be relatively light in weight compared to other cars. Removing mass, such as a bumper, radio or fancy upholstery reduces the weight of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eraserhead tells the story of henry, a depressed, isolated man who after being invited to his girlfriend marys home for dinner is informed that she has given birth to a baby. Henry and mary get married and soon after his wife leaves him, leaving him to care for his horribly mutated offspring, all the while henry has bizare dreams and visions. Lynchs use of surrealist imagery in this film is arresting, if not nightmarish at times. An example would be the dinner scene when henry is asked to carve the chicken by marys father, as soon as he sticks a fork in it, its legs begin to move whilst it oozes blood. In certain scenes we share in henrys confusion and shock at the events occuring around him, a testament to lynchs direction and jack nances perfomace. for most of the film henry is a passive character, alowing things to happen to him without his intervention to stop them, by the end of the film however he determines to free himself and does so in one of the more disturbing scenes of the ... • 5. Soccer Is A Marvelous Sport Soccer is a marvelous sport. It is a sport that virtually all know about, no matter where they live. A sport that began long ago and has continued on for decades. Even if it is less popular in some countries, it still has one of the largest fan bases in the world. As Kress Estime says in her report on soccer, Soccer is the most widely practiced sport in the world. It is played in over 200 countries and has over 3.5 billion fans around the globe (Estime). Soccer has held this title for a long time and has yet to lose it. Perhaps there is a reason that soccer has gained the most sizeable fanbase in the world? The difficult objective is finding out what that exact reason is and why it has happened. Could it be stereotypical? Could it be the drama that is included in it? Could it be emotion striking the people down causing them fall victim to the enjoyment that soccer offers? Could it be the inspiration from those who have played the sport before them? There is most certainly more than one answer to these questions. The history of soccer also offers a possible solution to this mystery. Cliff Potter briefly explains soccer s history in his article for the Bleacher Report. He states, However, the first indications of an early formal form of football date back 3,000 years to Ancient China. A game played with a ball of animal skins stuffed with hair or feathers was kicked between poles some 10 metres high and was most likely used for military training. By 50 A.D., the game ... • 6. New Spain And New France In The New World During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, New Spain and New France came to the New world for two different reasons. New France came to the new world in search of a new west passage and Spain came in search of gold and religious freedom. They both wanted to spread their religious beliefs through missionaries. The Spanish were the first to establish large settlements. The Spanish had over 200 cities by 1570. The French didn t start colonizing until 1604. The first French colony was Acadia and Quebec which came years later in 1608. The Spanish had a huge head start on colonization over New France but they both thrived in their own ways by using Natural Resources and slaves. Slaves in Spain were mostly Native Americans. New Spain valued Native Americans because they knew the land. The Native Americans knew the land so well that farming was easy for them. Not only did the Spanish enslave Native Americans but they also used some Africans for slave labor. The Spanish colonies eventually used African slaves only because the Natives often died from diseases. The same diseases the Europeans had brought over from England. Spain also had indentured servant who would work for a couple of years. In exchange for their work they would get food, clothing and a way to the new world. • 7. Essay on Shakespeare William Shakespeare often examines the personal transformation of characters in his works. His frequent illustrations of changing players most likely suggests that he is a true believer in the idea of people being able to emotionally grow. Moreso, the author essentially endorses the thought of developing humanity as a living being. Parallel to King Richard in Richard II, he illustrates many characters throughout his works whom undergo similar personal growth. Oftentimes these personal changes occur when a character suffers great loss in life. In this particular play these changes give the readers a chance to develop a bit of fondness in the once ignorant king. Most readers would normally accept positive changes within the mind and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This proves to be one of his first statements that allow the reader to view his belief in divine rights to rule, and that he simply loves the authority that has been given to him. Richard realizes that for either man to win, it would not be in his best personal interest. He proceeds to banish both Bolingbroke and Mowbray, which portrays his dismissive attitude. Thus, he does not want to actually deal with any occurring problems that he is supposed to, but simply hold the title of king and flatter his supporters (who are, in turn, out to overrule him). Being the pinnacle of hierarchy in his country, he does nothing to help with the problems that are arising. Instead of implementing ways to help people he pouts and whines, which obviously do not help the reader to respond positively towards him. Another example of his belief in divine rights is shown by his repetitive reference to himself as we. Richard states, We were not born to sue, but to command; which since we cannot do to make you friends. (2.1.196 197). The we reference is merely the metaphysical expression for his office as king (essentially godlike) or both man and majesty fused as one. • 10. Immigration Problems Ayush Patel American Lit B Research Paper 27 September , 2017 In 2013, 13 percent of the U.S. population was foreign born. Current projections suggest that by 2065, nearly one in five people in the United States will have been born outside the country (Hing 25).3 Immigration has been an integral part of the United States since its colonial days. Over a million legal and illegal immigrants take up residence in the United States each year. With the country struggling to support the huge intake of new comers, life in America has been suffering tremendously. The excessive stress put upon the welfare system, overuse of the family reunification laws, and the exploitation of employment based immigration are reasons for immigration reform. The American Government is trying to solve the deep rooted problems of immigration including the 1965 law, Chain immigration, and Latino immigration. Some factors from the past are widely responsible for the present immigration problems in the United States. A major cause for all of the problems is the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act. The 1965 Immigration law prioritized the relatives of U.S. citizens, while others were not able to settle in U.S. (Salam 24).2 The biased national origin quotas of 1920s was replaced by the 1965 law, which focused on family unification ( Hing 25).4 This Act has kept some restrictions for the immigration from Europe and Asia. It consists of the skin and its accessory organs hair, nails, sebaceous, or oil, glands, and the sudoriferous, or sweat, glands. Your skin alone weighs more than six pounds and covers more than three thousand square inches. The skin to me is considered customizable because you can alter it in many different ways. Many people pierce the skin on the ears, face, navel, and genitalia. They also tattoo their skin with permanent ink. There are many different sensations you can experience, including pain, hot, cold, pressure, traction, and many more. Each nerve ending will give you a different sensational experience when the nerve sends the individual impulse to the brain. When the impulse gets in to the cerebral cortex of the brain, your body reacts in the appropriate way. If you experience pain, for example, you might cry. The fourth function of the integumentary system is absorption. The most common use of the absorption factor is through the use of a transdermal patch. A transdermal patch, not to be confused with a dermal patch, is a medicated adhesive patch that is placed on the skin to deliver a certain dose of medication through the skin and in to the bloodstream. An advantage of this method of intake is the dosage intake is controlled by body heat melting away layers of medication embedded in the adhesive bandage, which is a time advantage. A disadvantage is a very effective barrier and sometimes the medication is not absorbed enough to be affective. Transdermal patches are placed on several parts of the body, depending on what treatment you need. Many transdermal medications include a type of birth control contraceptive and a medication that prevents motion sickness. The fifth and final function of the nervous system is secretion. • 14. President Jimmy Carter And The Iran Hostage Crisis Mere minutes after President Jimmy Carter was out of office, the Iran Hostage Crisis, for which his presidency is most remembered, was over. Behind him was a disjointed foreign and confused domestic policy. When he left office, Carter s approval rating was 34 percent, and his disapproval rating nearly twice that (Roper Center). Today, it seems that he is a better ex President than he was a president, as evidenced in his founding of the Carter Center, his cultivation of his presidential library, his contributions to Habitat for Humanity, and his numerous other humanitarian efforts. During his term, he had a poor relationship with Congress, a low approval rating with the American people, and a lack of cohesive international or domestic policy. I believe his two greatest failures are also the two which marked his entire presidency and caused the drop in his approval ratings: the confused and faltering domestic and international policies which lasted throughout his presidency and the Iran Hostage Crisis. Jimmy Carter was a one term president who won on a campaign of being not Washington and not Gerald Ford (Hargrove, 1988). Shortly after entering office, his refusal to trade political favors with members of Congress, unwillingness to learn the rules of Washington politics and play by them, and the general lack of communication between his administration and Congress stalled any possible working relationship. • 16. Defense Mechanisms That The Child Uses Essay Part A: Answer any 3 of the following questions: 1) Discuss 2 defense mechanisms that the child uses, and whether each appears to be adaptive or maladaptive. Susana is in denial of her current situation and uses crying and hostile behavior as her way of coping. As mentioned by Robbins et al. (2011), denial is seen as declining to believe or perceive reality. Susana is in denial of her current situation and tries to remain as the active child she used to be by interacting with her mother Jacquie as much as she can. A reason why Susana is in denial of her situation is because she is often eager, has hope, and is happy to see her mother Jacquie when she gets home from work despite her lack of presence as a nurturing mother. Susana remains optimistic that Jacquie will be there for her and play with her when she gets home. In this case Susana is trying to adapt to her environment as much as she can and her efforts show that Susana is a very strong child. In addition, being in denial of her current situation appears to be adaptive to Susana because she remains hopeful of her situation getting better despite of the lack of motherly love or lack of attention from her mother Jacquie. Another defense mechanism that can fit into the previous scenario is reaction formation . Although, Susana is not given the attention and proper care she needs she is being happy about her current situation by replacing all the negativity of not socializing with others as much, not having her mother ... • 36. Roman Civilization, Political, And Fall Of The Renaissance Between 500 BCE and 500 CE, the Roman civilization experienced changes both politically, economically, and socially. The collapse was a period in the fifth century AD, during which the Roman Empire collapsed in the wake of civil war, foreign invasion from barbaric tribes, plagues that would strike the population, economic depression that would lead to a collapse in the economy, and poor leadership. It would result in a collapse of Roman governmental authority. While the Roman Empire survived the Crisis of the Third century and recovered, it emerged from the crisis fundamentally changed. Thus the Crisis of the Third Century was one of the major turning points in Roman history whilst shifting old traditional ideas of Rome into a greater progressive ideology, which would result to the collapse of the Roman Empire. One cause that can be seen is Rome s sheer size. The problem of succession was never clear as one emperor succeeded another every few years on average. The urban rural imbalance saw immense gaps between the commons and the upper class that leads to economic instability. Rome was an empire built on cities as the cities have drained off the energy of the productivity of the countryside. Tropical Deforestation and Its Effect on Global Climate Abstract Rainforests are the predominant natural vegetation throughout the wet tropics. The defining characteristics of a tropical rainforest are temperature and rainfall. Wherever temperature is high enough and rainfall heavy and regular enough, there is rainforest (Bagheera, 1996). Tropical rainforests of all kinds once covered approximately 14 percent of the Earth s surface, more than eight million square miles (Conservation International, 1998); forming an equatorial green belt around the Earth rich in diverse plant and animal species. In contrast to destructive practices that profit a few but destroy the forest for all, intact tropical rainforests provide long term, widely distributed benefits. These benefits include increased biodiversity, protection of wildlife, food, fuel, medicines, building materials, and global climate stabilization (Bagheera, 1996,p.2). Due to the magnitude of tropical deforestation that has occurred, its potential affect on loss of biodiversity and alteration of world climate, this is arguably the most important global conservation issue today (Kricher, 1997). Discussion Global warming and tropical deforestation have a symbiotic relationship, each being a causal factor for the breakdown of the other. For each hectare of forest that is cleared and burned, about 220 tons of carbons are released into the atmosphere (Holloway, 1993). Carbon is released primarily in the form of CO2, carbon dioxide, with the burning of fallen vegetation from cleared forest. In addition, the cleared forest is no longer there to act as a sink for carbon dioxide to take it up in the process of photosynthesis (Kricher, 1997). The build up of carbon dioxide causes sunlight to be trapped in the atmosphere and through the greenhouse effect the Earth s temperature rises (Myers, 1979). According to Dr. David Pilgrim of Ferris State University by 1838, the term Jim Crow was being used as a slur for African Americans which was not as offensive as nigger, but more similar to coon or darkie (Pilgrim, David, Dr. Who Was Jim Crow. ).
