1. GENERAL 2. INITIAL REQUIREMENTS
GENERAL
For the last 2 years our company has been closely following the Sierra Leanean diamond Industry if
we can call it that. Sierra Leone is a small country in West Africa mainly known because of the bloody
and vicious civill war which ended about 3 years ago. I have visited this country a few times each time
for a period of 1 month or more. During those vistts I tried to familiarize myself with the diamond and
gold mining industry. During those visits I have been in Freetown (the capital of Sierra Leone) in
which I successfully dealt with all the necessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

5. MAKING THE CONNECTION WITH THE LOCALS AND GETTING THE LOCAL LICENCES.
[pic]
We were put in contact by the mines ministry people with the (Paramount Chief) of Kamakwie area.
The chief seems to be a faily decent person, more reliable than most locals. He is a relatively educated
person and easy to deal with. After the initial meeting in Freetown we drove the company jeep to
Kamakwie to close the deal. We spent in Kamakwie around 3 weeks during which we got an initial
tour of the area, decided on the first site, signed the contract and started testing the site. Anexed is the
the contact for the site, signed with the chief (ih handwriting). This contract together with my local
resident Visa/work permit which II have aqquired in Freetown (see annexed), and the company papers
is almost enough for us to practice mining in Kamakwie. The single additional document needed, is a
local licence from the mining ministry branch nearest to Kamakwie (Makenny). At the time I am
writing this Document, the licence is ready and waiting for me upon my return. One very important
obstacle we overcame in kamakwie is the residence place. As mentioned before this is a very bacward
place with no electricity , running water, communication (no cellphone reception)

Metaphors In The Play Fences
AMO CONCEPT QUESTIONS

1. Some people build fences to keep people out... and other people built fences to keep people in.
Bono said this to Troy on page 61. This has a much deeper meaning the deeper a reader gets into the
play Fences . On page 57 Cory states Papa done went up to the school and told coach Zellman I can t
play football no more . Troy, who is Cory s father does this to ultimately protect Cory from being
racial discriminated in the big leagues for football. He wants to keep Cory inside the fence. Troy and
his father never had a good relationship, so of course Troy wants to love Cory, he simply doesn t know
how to show it because he himself never received it.
Later on in the play, Cory and Troy get into a big argument which ... Show more content on

Throughout the book Troy uses baseball as a metaphor for life many times. When Cory strikes out its
because he has made a mistake he should never commit again according to his father. The first time
Cory struck out was when he lied to his father about quitting his job to maintain playing football after
his father specifically told him not too. So Troy tells Cory I m gonna tell you what your mistake was.
See... you swung at the ball and didn t hit it. That s strike one. Don t strike out! (page 58) Troy is
trying to teach Cory not to lie. Troy feels disrespected, so he is enforcing rules upon Cory. The second
time he strikes out is when Cory and Troy get into a physical fight. This time troy tells him Alright.
That s strike two. You stay away from around me, boy. Don t you strike out. (page 72) Troy is stunned
at the fact that his son physically laid hands on him. But when Cory finally strikes out, Troy tells him
Go on and get away from around my house (page 89) Troy was not going to be disrespected by his
own son, so he resorted to just kicking him out. Troy was attempting to teach Cory to respect, without
ever truly showing Cory what respect was. On Cory s second strike, Troy was found hurting Rose,
which in no way was respectful. All Troy ever really wanted Cory to learn was to live without the help
of others, for Cory to pave his own path. On page 39 he tells Rose He s healthy. he s got to make his
own way. I made mine. Aint nobody gonna hold his hand when he get out there in that world. Troy
was a worried father. He didn t want his son to turn out like him as he explained on page 39. Troy
states I don t want him to be like me !... the only decent thing that ever happened to me. I wish him
that... I decided seventeen years ago that boy wasn t getting involved in no sports. Not after what they

Four Seasons Research Paper
The Four Seasons are known as Solar Festivals, in that they mark a seasonal change caused by the
Sun. The cross quarter days are marked by Fire Festivals and are usually celebrated as significant
agricultural festivals. Together the Solar Festivals and the Fire Festivals make up the Wheel of the
Year. The Wheel Of The Year, is often broken into eight festivals, whether they are the eight Asatru
Blots, Seasonal Festivals or Celtic Sabbats, and the observance of Solar energies at the solstices and
equinoxes and the Fire energies on the cross quarter days, is a common theme throughout the world.
The Festivals of the Wheel of the Year also represent the active and dormant states of nature, man and
agriculture. Each of the festival days was ruled by a governing deity, whether a God or Goddess, with
each region having its own associated deity. From planting to reaping to winter to summer... the
seasons were of great importance to our ancestors, for their very existence depended upon good
harvests, mild winters, and enough rainfall.
Our days start at sundown on the previous day. Therefore, November 1 is actually the night of October
31 through the day of November 1. Also, the dates given here are only applicable in the northern
hemisphere. For the southern hemisphere, Sabbats are generally celebrated 6 months off from the
traditional dates.

Attitude Towards Love in Valentine and The Flea Essay
Through Close Analysis of Language, Structure and Theme, Compare and
Contrast the Poet s Attitude Towards Love in Valentine and The Flea.
The two poems Valentine and The Flea are about the two different ways in which the poets portray
their views about love, however the poems are still linked in a few ways. The Flea was published in
the seventeenth century and was written by John Donne . Valentine was published in 1983 and was
written by Carol Ann Duffy . Both poems are addressed to an unknown lover.
The poem Valentine is written in free verse form. Carol Ann Duffy could have used this irregular
pattern because of the irregular present that she is giving to her lover.

This could be the link between the onion and love that is being developed in the poem. This is also
one of only four cases of enjambment in this poem. The writer obviously wants the lines to flow into
each other here maybe so it is like when tears are flowing down your face.
Duffy then explores the idea of truth behind the relationship, quite the opposite of what John Donne
believes of in his relationship.
I am trying to be truthful.
The writer obviously wants her lover to know the real meaning of love, not his stereotypical view.
Duffy also wants to emphasise the fact of how irregular her present is and it should be thought of.
Not a cute card or kissogram.
She doesn t want him to receive the normal presents off her; she knows that he would just be
expecting that and he wouldn t even think about the meaning of the normal presents. She wants to
shock her lover with her present to make sure that the he understands the meaning of why she is
giving him a present for Valentine s Day to offer a gift to your true love and emphasise how much you
care about them.
Duffy then repeats the first line of her poem again in the middle of the poem. I give you an onion.
She is repeating the line to emphasise the meaning of the present, or it could be to start a different part
of the poem, a different attitude towards love. Then there is a contrast with a line in the first stanza.

The Raven Literary Devices
There are many types of literary devices and techniques used in the poem called The Raven by Edgar
Allan Poe. Most of the techniques include alliteration, repetition, internal rhyme, onomatopoeia, and
end rhymes. The Raven was a poem about a person who lost their loved one who he called Lenore ,
then finding a raven and communicating to it about his feelings. Throughout the poem, a certain
rhyme pattern is found. The rhyme pattern consist of the second line of the stanza rhyming with the
fourth, fifth, and sixth line of the stanza. In my opinion, I think that is a very effective way for me to
read it because it made it more interesting and easier to read. The literary devices in the poem helped
the poem become more organized and enjoyable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, it s easier to spot which initial letter is repeating. In this case, it s the letter F and the word
uttered. In the twelfth stanza, there is another example of alliteration found in the fourth line, which is
Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore There is also repetition in this line
since the word followed is used more than once in one line. I noticed that the letter F is used a lot for
alliteration and repetition in this poem. The fourth line in the next stanza also have repetition. Fancy
unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore The word fancy is used repeatedly in this line.
According to The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, the most used literary device or literary technique that I
have found throughout the poem was alliteration, repetition, internal rhymes, and end rhymes. Based
on what I read, there will be at least one end rhyme in each stanza. All of the second lines, fourth lines,
fifth lines, and sixth lines rhyme together. There will occasionally be internal rhymes found in the first
lines of almost each stanza. Repetition is mostly found in the fourth lines of almost all of the stanzas
and Alliteration is mostly found in the third

Roger Chillingworth
Stemming from the thought of a forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, knowledge and sin have been
interwoven for all of humanity. The Puritans, godly appearances aside, are no exception. In The
Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne, the innermost workings of a seemingly dignified society are
revealed. By doing so, Hawthorne advocates that all knowledge and sin are ultimately inseparable.
The character known as Roger Chillingworth is focused on a fiery revenge throughout the course of
the novel. The entire premise of this vengeance is the thirst for knowledge, for clarity, and for
clearance. Roger explains to his former wife, Hester, that there are...few things hidden from the man
who devotes himself earnestly and unreservedly to the solution ... Show more content on

When addressing his lover, Hester, at her public trial, he implores her passionately to reveal the
identity of her lover, well knowing that it is himself. Be not silent from any mistaken pity and
tenderness for him...through he were to step down from a high place (63). While Hawthorne has the
minister committing a sin in and of itself by requesting Hester to reveal the identity of the lover, the
minister is also forcing Hester to commit another sin because of her knowledge lying. The knowledge
between the lovers results in undeniable sin for the both of them. Yet, Dimmesdale s sin with Hester
gives him insight into how to connect with his congregation. As the narrator states, this very burden it
was that gave him sympathies so intimate with the sinful brotherhood of mankind, so that his heart
vibrated in unison with theirs. (129). Hawthorne utilizes the paradox of a sinful minister to highlight
Dimmesdale s inner sin. Yet, Dimmesdale becomes a better preacher and arguably a better person
through his fall into sin. He can relate to the masses, instead of being held up on his own pedestal. As
such, Dimmesdale s sin brings him knowledge. Throughout Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter,
knowledge and sin are ultimately inseparable. While almost all of the characters in the novel sin,
Hawthorne ends optimistically with

Saudi s In Bikinis Analysis
We as humans have always been fearful of the unknown, as well as what we do not comprehend. In
result of this, humanity has developed the tendency of antagonizing beliefs and concepts foreign to
one s own. This becomes problematic when exposed to an abnormal surrounding or idea. When
Christopher Columbus had voyaged across the ocean, people began to fear he and his crew would
plummet of the edge of the world. Despite being told otherwise, we let our own ignorance dictate our
definition of what is good and bad for us and others. This becomes apparent through written literature.

A Report On The s Change Model, Balance Scorecard And...
Executive Summary
This report will address strategy implementations for BBC3. The BBC have suggested to close BBC3.
However from our SWOT (appendix 1) and Porters 5 forces analysis (appendix 2) it was concluded
that they should not do this. Instead the BBC should keep BBC3 and close BBC4.
This report looks at how the change can be implemented using Lewin s Change Model, Balance
Scorecard and effective leadership.
Introduction
According to Hrebiniak (2006), formulating a consistent strategy is a difficult task however
implementing it is even more difficult. Noble, (1999b) suggested that strategy implementation is often
seen as a craft, rather than a science.
According to the Balanced Scorecard Collaborative (2007), there are four reasons ... Show more

From the analysis it has been concluded that the BBC should keep BBC3 on the TV and instead
remove BBC4.
One reason for this strategy has been suggested is because the BBC have many diversified products to
meet requirement of each customer (BBC, 2014). However, BBC3 is the only channel that caters to
the younger market, 16 34 year olds, therefore by removing this from TV they would no longer have a
channel for this market. It has been found that youth are already underserved and older audiences are
over served (Plunkett, 2014) therefore by removing BBC3 from the TV they would be further
underserved. Additionally, there has been a signed petition against the BBC3 proposal (Change.org
2015) suggesting that its customers do not want it to be taken off TV. Furthermore 16% of UK
households don t have access to internet and by removing BBC3 from the TV that 16% of the market
will not be able to access it.
BBC4 have 2 million less viewers than BBC3 each week (BBC 2015). Additionally, BBC4 has many
repeat shows on the channel and also similar shows to BBC2 therefore by closing BBC4 instead of
BBC3 the BBC would lose less customers. Closing BBC4 would involve transferring longstanding
programmes that are shown on BBC4 to BBC 2 as the two channels are already working closely
together (BBC 2015).

Water disinfection means eliminating or inactivate of growth and reproduction in pathogenic
microorganisms by creating cell wall corrosion in the cells of microorganisms, or changes in cell
permeability. From the water treatment process, disinfection is a sufficient and the crucial process in
order to inactivate bacteria, viruses and pathogenic organisms that can waterborne diseases to
downstream users and the environment (USEPA, 1999). There are three most common methods of
disinfection in the U.S., which are Chlorination, Ozonation, and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection.
Chlorine, the most widely used disinfectant for municipal wastewater, destroys target organisms by
oxidation of cellular material. Ozone is a strong oxidizing agent that is an unstable gas that is
generated by an electrical discharge through dry air or pure oxygen. Finally UV radiation generated by
sunlight, tanning lamp, black lights, and electrical discharge through mercury vapor, penetrates the
genetic material of microorganisms and retards their ability to reproduce (USEPA, N.D.). One of the
popular disinfection methods in water treatment is the Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection. The ultraviolet
(UV) disinfection is a physical disinfection of water. This paper would provide a broadly definition of
UV disinfection and its purpose in water treatment. Also, this paper will provide the advantages and
disadvantages of using the advance technology over the common technology in water treatment.

How Did Lenin s Use Of Power
Despite having other methods of control such as: Lenin s power and the soviet constitution, the
Bolshevik leadership s main method of control was terror. Although this was the main method of
control the Bolshevik leadership only had a certain degree of control over the party that was not great
between 1917, when the party seized power to 1924, when the soviet constitution was established.
Bolshevik use of terror enabelled the leadership to reinforce their hold over the party. This was due to
Cheka; Lenin s secret police who were formed in 1917. Their role was to deal with counter revolution,
sabotage and speculation. This was important to avoid opposition in the party; increasing the strength
of leadership. To create a wider use of terror in 1922 Cheka was replaced with the OGPU, which made
arrests and tourtière more bureaucratic and discreet. Under Lenin s control one third of the party was
purged, this would make the use of terror a main method for ridding the leadership of opposition and
losing support. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The constitution strengthened the control of the Party over outlying regions of the old Russian Empire.
This would ve been important for part leadership as by increasing the regions under soviet control
they would increase support for the government. The extending of the part to the other regions
tightened authority in the Soviet state. To extend the Soviet Union the Red Army was sent into the
regions. This shows a further use of terror by the Bolshevik leadership. The constitution did mean that
party bodies were strictly under control of the central Party structure. Resulting in the constitution
playing an important role in the leaderships control, but as terror was required to inforce it it
highlights the importance of terror in the Bolshevik

Domestic Violence Against Women in Canada Essay
Introduction Intimate partner violence has been a significant issue for centuries in all countries. Since
1974, nearly 2,600 spousal homicides have been recorded in Canada (Bunge, 2002). Of these
homicides, more than three quarters have been against women. Although through feminism and the
women s liberation movement, there has been a slight improvement in the incidences of violence
against women, there has also been a drastic change in the perception of the issue by society. After
reviewing the most recent literature on violence against women and victimization through intimate
partners, it has become prevalent that there are now two crucial stances that are taken. The first
position is that of the women being victimized as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, changing nature of intimate relationships, increasing gender equality, legislative
changes, policy and procedural changes, etc. (Bunge, 2002). Between 1974 and 2000, the homicide
rate for women decreased by 62% and the homicide rate for men dropped by more than half 55%
(Bunge, 2002) which demonstrates the drastic decline in intimate partner violence including
homicides. Secondly, one of the general concepts behind the literature examined would be the idea
that intimate partner violence is now going through a process of normalization. For instance, popular
women s magazines frame domestic violence in a way that normalizes the victims s responsibility
while ignoring the role of the abuser and society (Berns, 2001). Individuals construct their own
conceptions of what is normal and acceptable. These conceptions, what Cicourel (1968) calls
background expectancies govern all social interaction (Berns, 2001). With the norms that society
creates being the main control of interaction amongst society, it is clear that by allowing the
perspective of intimate partner violence as normal will create unawareness about the issue and may
perpetuate further issues. Women who have respect and power outside the home through community
activities, including participation in microcredit schemes, are less likely to be abused than those who
do not (Jewkes, 2002).

The NBA has offered a blueprint for how to succeed, which could also rapidly homogenize players in
the league. The change could also leave players, who had jobs this year, unemployed next season. That
circumstance provides the potential for a messy turnover period where the quality of play slightly
suffers. A final superfluous concern: promoting Curry is just promoting another good guy. Haven t
some criticized the NBA for lacking villains ?
That aside, the NBA is more exciting than it has been for a while. A new style of play and a non

Most seem to also believe that Golden State will secure its second straight title in June. Three pointers

Speech 251 has built my communication skills up to the point where I can clearly communicate, with

experiencing another slow period. As work slows down, I continue to educate myself by reading step

to my job. Moreover, as a second year apprentice, communication has proven to be one of the most
valuable skills, both written and verbal. Speech 251 has lent me a hand. Dr. Halbert s persistence in
the value of public speaking has been beneficial in establishing communication skills. In example, we
regularly hold board meetings where job statuses and injury reports are discussed with upper

The City Of Angkor And The Khmer Army
The City of Angkor
The City of Angkor was part of the Khmer Empire which was located in Southeastern Asia and there
was a civilisation there between the 9th and 15th centuries AD. The City of Angkor started to decline
in the late 14th century AD then eventually collapsed in the 15th century AD. There are a variety of
things that can be learnt about the City of Angkor and the Khmer and Cham armies fighting methods
through the bas reliefs from the Bayon. There are also many different reasons for the decline of the
City of Angkor which include the fact that they people couldn t battle drought and how much they
over worked the land.

evidence of what the fighting methods where of the Khmer and Cham armies during the period of the
Khmer Empire. These illustrations show predominantly the Cham and Khmer forces fighting on foot
but also show them fighting on elephants. The soldiers would also carry weapons which include

Rhetorical Analysis Of Kentucky Fried Chicken
Kentucky fried chicken, also known as KFC, have made many commercials over time. This analysis is
on a specific old commercial, sadly of unknown age, but probably from around 1950 1960. The
commercial in question is found on YouTube, and it s made in USA. KFC is a fast food chain that sells
fried chicken, amongst other things, and is especially popular is the US.
To summarize the commercial it starts with a few women being displayed, all thinking about what to
serve for dinner. Luckily Colonel Sanders has the answer, they show a clip from one of the many
KFCs in the country and show the chicken being made. A family then sits down and happily enjoys a
meal of Kentucky fried chicken and at the end of the clip, a special two for one price is ... Show more

The fact that they have a special price is great, but just putting a picture on the screen is not what we
want to see. As mentioned before, the music is suiting to the commercial, however it hasn t any
excitement to it. In the whole, the clip has an old feel to it, in a negative way. It is an old commercial,
which makes it rather obvious that it will look old, but that part is not appreciated by everyone today.
There are a few things that could be modified to make it better, for example the special price. To make
it more interesting, it should be moving after a few seconds, for instance display someone enjoying the
two for one meal. The ancient feeling is a bit hard to remove without remaking the entire commercial
today, but maybe that s a good thing. This commercial isn t like the rest and perhaps that s what people
like about it. If I received the chance to make some small adjustments I would probably start with
finding them a catchphrase.
To wrap it all up, KFC has really succeeded with this commercial, it s convincing and looks delicious.
There is a slight problem though, I m a vegetarian, therefore I won t buy the product. I also happen to
know the truth behind the meat industry and do not wish to support it. My opinions however, do not
have anything to do with the commercial, and if I wasn t aware of all this, I would probably buy the

The Effect Of Velocity On A Flat Plate Boundary Layer
Introduction: The purpose of this experiment was to measure the magnitude of velocity in a flat plate
boundary layer in which the pressure was constant. A pitot tube located at the top of the test section
that was used to determine the total pressure across the boundary layer. The Pitot tube needed to be
able to more along both horizontal and vertical directions for accurate measurements. Five different
tubes, aligned along the x axis, were placed under the wind tunnel test section to measure the static
pressure. The result of both the static and total pressures is the dynamic pressure.
Theory:
The boundary layer is defined as a thin layer of any fluid adjacent to the solid surface it surrounds.
The characteristics of a boundary layer are basically what define the effects of viscosity. The velocity
of the boundary layer starts from a value of zero at the solid surface and increases until it reaches a
maximum which happens to be the free stream velocity. In other words, theoretically speaking the
boundary layer is infinite, but for measurement purposes the boundary layers ends where the velocity
gradient is 99% of the free stream velocity. The Reynolds number, a unit less ratio of inertial forces to
viscous forces, is used to identify the several inner layers of the boundary layer. Furthermore, as
previously mentioned when a body parallel to the flow, such as a flat plate, is placed in the parallel
direction of a free stream flow, a boundary layer is formed. At the

Xuanzang Dharma Master Sparknotes
Xuanzang was a Chinese Buddhist monk who performed a historic pilgrimage to India in search of
sutras , dharma and the sacred traces of the Buddha . He undertook this journey at a most tumultuous
time; when the Tang dynasty was at war with the Turks. Due to the restrictions on border crossing, his
expedition to India in 629 A.D was very difficult. Xuanzang, however, did not experience a break in
his resolve and successfully completed his journey.
Several decades after Xuanzang returned from India, his disciples Huili and Yanzong wrote his
biography. Based on oral accounts from their Dharma Master and their own observations of his life
and vocation in China, they constructed his experiences on paper. Since the primary source of the ...

The letter which the king of Gaochang wrote for Yabgu Khan is particularly enlightening concerning
the Chinese encounters with Central Asia. The king assumed a very modest position and exalted the
powerful Turk. It s interesting to note that he did not threaten the Turk of impending consequences
which would arise if the Dharma Master were to be hurt. Nor did he exalt the position of the Dharma
Master . He referred to himself as your humble slave , denoted Yabgu Khan as your highness Khan
and pleaded for the protection of the humble slave s brother in the same way as you protect your
humble slave . The rhetoric employed by the king suggests that he respected the Turkish ruler very
much and perhaps feared him a little too. It also sheds some light on the disposition of the Turk;
perhaps Yabgu Khan required such appeasement and it kept him from being hostile as he didn t
perceive the other as a threat. Another important thing to note here is that the twenty four letters were
attached to a bolt of heavy damask . In that particular period silk was considered very special and it
represented wealth. The Chinese also used to use silks as effective economic inducements when
conducting diplomacy with nomadic people (Silks and Religions in Eurasia, C. A.D. 600 1200). Yabgu
Khan was presented with five hundred bolts of damask as a sign of goodwill.

Teens And Teen Suicide
Teen Suicide According to Maureen and Kayla (78), adolescent depression is a serious problem
affecting 10.7% of all teens and 29.9% of high school students whereby, 17% of the latter are
supposed to have contemplated suicide in general. Notably, this statistic conveys the seriousness with
which the issue needs to be addressed with because, ostensibly, most of the depression cases, which
ultimately lead to suicide incidences among teens, are still going unrecognized. Moreover, as
American Psychological Association asserts, the primary cause of suicidal distress include social,
environmental, and psychological factors (par. 2). Additionally, the former also notes that suicide risk
factors vary with certain aspects including age, ethnic group, stressful life events, family dynamics,
and gender among other factors. In precision, it is admissible that despite the many aspects that are
supposed to be the main cause of suicide cases among teens, failure to recognize and treat, or rather,
address the causative agents of suicidal conditions could be the primary reason for the rampancy
regarding the issue. Therefore, if, for instance, medical practitioners and parents among other involved
individuals seek to curb teen suicide, it first necessitates their understanding of the problem including
reasons that might lead a teenager to develop suicidal thoughts.

To Kill A Mockingbird Setting Analysis
I think there s just one kind of folks. Folks (Lee 304). This concept that Scout brings up goes against
what others Maycomb believe in as Maycomb County from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee has
lots of prejudice. Two reasons why the setting is very significant are, Maycomb County is a small
town the significance of that is that everyone knows each other and often have the same views as each
other this in turn causes prejudice. Also, Maycomb community finds their history to be very important
this changes how people act which shows how the setting could have major effects. In Harper Lee s To
Kill a Mockingbird, setting is very significant. Harper Lee uses the setting of Maycomb to bring forth
the idea that everyone knows everyone else because, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Maycomb the actions of your relatives in the past affects your future if no one likes your relatives
in the past they will not like you to. This is why setting can be so significant to the novel. Even
children find it shameful to not understand their family history as it is a source of pride for the people
of Maycomb. Scout says, Being Southerners, it was a source of shame to some members of the family
that we had no recorded ancestors on either side of the Battle of Hastings (3). To Kill a Mockingbird
takes place around 1935 approximately 870 years earlier is when the Battle of Hastings took place.
This would seem absurd to other people since this event took place hundreds of years ago. However,
since the setting is Maycomb which is in the south this is very important to them. This is concept is
due only to the setting which shows just how important it is to the novel. This next evidence will
further prove that people from Maycomb feel like history is crucial to their lives. Scout says, It was a
sad thing that my father had neglected to tell me about the Finch family or install any pride into his
children (176). This furthers the knowledge that everyone in Maycomb even children believe it is
necessary to learn about their heritage and about family history. In Maycomb people find history so
important that they make plays about it. Mrs. Merriweather, Chanted mournfully about Maycomb

Corn-Pone Opinions Essay

English III AP 7

Corn Pone; Conformity Mark Twain, although quite the comedian, makes a valid point in Corn Pone
Opinions . The observation of humanity and its tendencies to follow what society promotes is a
relevant occurrence today. Twain leads on . . . that it s born of the human being s natural yearning to
stand well with his fellows and have their inspiring approval and praise . . . (720). Humans are not
equipped to stand their own ground; they prefer to follow the leader. Twain puts it simply, we are

Twain, attacking the willingness to change fashion without thinking first, speaks to women closely.
Twain states, One woman abandons the fashion; her neighbor notices this and follows her lead; this
influences the next woman; and so on and so on . . . (718). To this day women continue to experience
this identical process. Although one may love her Christmas sweater, if her neighbor does not own one
or wrinkles her nose at the idea of wearing such a thing, she will immediately go home and dispose of
the sweater without thinking twice about her actions or her personal feelings toward the item of
clothing. Twain also mentions how twenty five years ago there would be six of eight wine glasses
given to each person attending a dinner party, and they were to be used, not left idle and empty , but
today there are but three of four wine glasses and on average and only two are sparingly emptied by
each guest (719). Twain follows this observation by expanding his opinion on conformity. He offers
the idea that people follow certain trends without thinking them through. The people attending these
dinner parties have no idea why they only consume two glasses when twenty five years ago people
consumed three to four times as much. Humans, in general, do not look for the answer to the question
why? , but instead only worry about what other people do and if their actions are satisfactory to those
surrounding them. Twain also gives an

Summary Of Lorraine Hansberry
Lorraine Hansberry, born May 19, 1930, made a very prominent contribution to society in her short
lived life. She was born to a middle class family as the youngest of four children. Her father was a
successful real estate broker who also founded one of the first Negro banks in Chicago (Adams 247).
Lorraine s mother was a schoolteacher named Nannie Perry who later became a ward
committeewoman.
In 1938, Lorraine s father took a stand against the real estate covenants in Chicago due to the fact that
they legally promoted housing discrimination. He chose to move his family into a predominantly
white neighborhood to prove his point and try to make a change. The court case that resulted from this
stand led to a lot of hostility from those around the Hansberry family. There was a violent attack on
the family s home by a mob who threw bricks into the house while shouting. Even with this reaction
to the Hansberrys moving into the neighborhood, the family decided to stay to stand their ground. The
court case went all the way to the federal Supreme Court where the ruling was that this kind of
discrimination was unlawful. However, Chicago continued restrictive covenants anyways and
eventually the Hansberry family was forced to move out of the neighborhood ( Lorraine Hansberry
Gale).
Due to the Hansberry family s middle class status and the career choices of both of her parents,
Lorraine was exposed to many prominent African American political and cultural figures who she

The Role Of Stereotypes In The Workplace
The way to overcome this challenge in the workplace is for companies to host events to celebrate
accomplishments and achievements, so that it can help them balance out their company culture
(Gausepohl, 2016). These events are also done, so that the different generations can learn about each
other. Through these events, companies should try to create a company culture that takes into
consideration of all the generations, so that everyone can work together without any disagreements
about the culture of the company (Srivastava). The next challenge that generations face in the
workplace is communication. In today s workplace, there are many different ways to communicate
with a co worker, such as using letters, emails, telephones, text, ... Show more content on

All the generations believe that there are certain negative stereotypes associated with each age group
and these stereotypes can cause conflicts and challenges in the workplace because one generation will
think they are better than another which will cause the generations to not work well with each other.
For example, the stereotypes that older generations believe that Millennials have are that they are lazy,
entitled, tech obsessed, and overeager while the Millennials view the older generations as being too
stubborn to change and difficult to train (Srivastava). Stereotypes in the workplace is a big challenge
for many organizations that have many generations working together, but the best way to tackle this
problem is for leaders of a company to instill in their workers to not label other generations and not let
the perceived stereotypes change how they view all age groups (Gausepohl, 2016). In addition, the
leaders are also encouraged to get involved in any problems that are forming in their company and
they should take immediate action to resolve them. The main reason why stereotypes in the workplace
is a challenge is because of the pride and ignorance that each generation has that creates these beliefs
about each age group. The way to eliminate this kind of thinking is by focusing more on the ability of
an individual and not the age of the person, so that pride and ignorance does not blind a person s
judgement about another individual

The Importance Of Confucianism In Chinese Culture
China is considered to be the first modern state in the world and has existed for thousands of years.
Throughout the millennia, this civilisation and its people have continued to develop the cultural
practices such as sacred teachings, which consequently has influenced their art style. Therefore, in this
essay I will explore and compared themes such as Confucianism, Taoism and even their written word
and how those have influences art in China through the ages. The concept of Confucianism began over
two thousand five hundred years ago, and it is largely defined by three key principles. That etiquette is
integral to harmony, authority is to be respected and most importantly tradition and history is to be
remembered and revered. All three of these principles are equally important and Confucians believe
that these teachings are the best way to have a peaceful and uncorrupted society and the best way to
carry yourself as a person. However, I claimed that reverence towards tradition was the most
important principle because I have found that it is the most common theme related to Confucianism
that appears in Chinese art. You can see this in Xie He s Six Principles of Painting written in 550c. His
sixth principle of `Transmission by Copying emphasises the importance of working from the masters
artwork so you can learn from them and develop your own practice. The most common way this was
manifested is when painters remake previous masters work. It is the main way we see older

Salvador Dali was an extraordinary painter who focused on abstract art and helped shape art as we
know it today. He had many different works of art. Many of them are not known by a majority of
people. one that is considered his most famous is Persistence of Memory. It is otherwise known as the
painting of melting clocks, as many people I have talked to about it do not remember the name of the
painting. His artwork may have seemed to be different than most, but that is what made his artwork
famous. Even today s generation knows his paintings. There are many other brilliant paintings he has
done that are not as exposed as his most famous one.
He was born on May 11,1904. He lived in Figueres, Spain where he pursued his art at a young age. He
was encouraged to do so, which led to him studying at an academy in Madrid. Then in the 1920s he

For a long time, EDIFACT has been the most broadly utilized convention for EDI messages.
Numerous healthcare associations, and also businesses in different commercial enterprises, have
utilized the EDI approach as a part of request to trade particular space records towards the end of work

linguistically organized information arranged reports. However, over the years it has become apparent
that healthcare communication standards, such as EDI messages, fail to effectively establish
requirements for the internal structure and architecture of communicating systems, requiring the
information in any one system to be mapped twice: once into the message standard format by the
contributing system, and once back into the internal representation of the receiving system (Dudeck,
1998).Although the EDI approach achieves integration at the data level, it does not provide process
integration. Thus, it has been characterised by many as a complex technology owing to the daunting

How Dmitri Shostakovich Adhere From The Conventions And...
In this essay I will be discussing the extent that Dmitri Shostakovich adhered to and rebelled from the
conventions and traditions that were normalized in classical music and I will offer varied examples of
the many times Shostakovich has obeyed and dissented within music throughout his career. The career
span of Shostakovich extends from 1926 when he presented his first major work, Symphony No.1 to
1970 when he presented Quartet No. 7.
Born Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich on the 25th September, 1906, in St. Petersburg, Russia, the
composer began his descent into classical music at the age of 9, before later moving on to study at the
Petrograd conservatory. Throughout his life he compiled 15 symphonies, 15 string quartets and 36
film scores as well as many other compositions. Within his musical work and the course of his career
Shostakovich managed to both adhere to traditions set within classical music as well as dissent from
them, I will be exploring these.
I would first like to address what traditions are associated with classical music to highlight how
Shostakovich dissented from these.
I will begin by briefly explaining the definition of chamber music, the definition of chamber music is
Instrumental music played by a small ensemble, with one player to a part, the most important form
being the string quartet. (www.oxforddictionaries.com)
Traditionally chamber music was often intended for a small and intimate audience rather than for an

featured a cheerful interracial couple and their children. The whimsical, laughing family seemed
innocent enough, but there was a clear revolt among the more bigoted communities. This lead to a
powerful reaction from interracial couples and families who took the rejection of the ad personally. In
turn, they posted their own photos of their families to protest the racism and supposed white
discrimination that many complained of. This was a very important event because it brought the topic
of interracial couples into the spotlight of the media and it was clear that there was a very steady
divide between those who accepted and disapproved. While this wasn t necessarily a poll or a census,
there was a very clear message that could be concluded from the Twitter war (Perez Pena

Crime Scene Therapist
At the moment, I am still unsure of what major and career I am going to pursue. I am looking into
different fields and what would interest me, and at the moment I am looking toward photography
related fields. One career that I have been interested in lately is a forensic photographer, or crime
scene photographer. They are called to crime scenes in order to take photographs for the law
enforcement, so they can study them for future purposes. Cases can take months or even years to
solve, so these photographs help preserve the original scene and evidence. Not only do they take
pictures of the overall scene, but of different objects in the room or area as well to give investigating
officers a feel of what happened.
Of course, they need to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, many people will be starting out of college with a low salary, but according to the National
Association of Colleges and Employers, graduating students form 2014 earned an average of $48,127
in a year. While I many be able to work up, this starting salary is still something to consider. Another
con, is that I would be dealing with grueling work and evidence everyday, and eventually this may
take a toll on me. I do not know what the affects will be like on me, but even if I have a strong gut
there is only so much a person can take. The third con, is that I have only had experience with creative
photography, while this will just be straight shots of specific things. The final con is the on call work
time. While I do not mind having to work at any hour of the day, this could cut into my everyday life,
because I would not know which hours of the day it would be. This job may not be practical, but it
was something that I wanted to look

Pink Floy s Mother Analysis
Pink Floyd s Mother debuted on November 30th, 1979. While Kendrick Lamar s FEAR. debuted on
April 14th, 2017. Although nearly 38 years apart, the two songs show a deep response to the tactics of
their mother s parenthood. To begin, Mother is sung with incredible eeriness and passion. The
structure of the song brings to life the singer s (Roger Waters) confusion towards his mother. In the
beginning of the song, they ask, Mother, do you think they ll like this song? Mother, do you think they
ll try to break my balls? These lines refer to the public as they . He is asking his mother, in a curious,
youthful state if the world will like his music, and if they will ridicule him for it. This plea for
reassurance shows how devoted he is to his mother. Waters also asks his mother, should I build the
wall? his reason for asking this question shows he is willing to block out the world if his mother told
him to do so. The next verse discloses that his mother will not let the evil from the world harm him, as
she says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
quite literally discusses Lamar s fear of his mother. He uses fast, forceful phrases to inflict a sense of
anxiety. Unlike Pink Floyd s mother, Lamar s did not use the fearsome reality of the world to control
him, rather, she used herself as the object of fear. In the first verse, Kendrick relives instances where
his mother told him that she would beat his a** if he did anything she did not approve of. These
situations imposed serious control of Kendrick s lifestyle and responsibilities. Moreover, near the end
of the second verse Kendrick says, All worries in a hurry, I wish I controlled things. This desire shows
how, much like Pink Floyd s need to tear down the wall, Kendrick needs to control things the way his
mother did. In summary, Kendrick Lamar expresses a rooted fear of his mother, rather than the world.
But, this fear was brought to him in the same way Pink Floyd s was, through consistent domination

Divorce Cases In The 1600 s
As long as there has been marriage, there has been divorce. Divorce cases have dated as far back as
the 1600 s. Originally, they were simple matters. Men, generally, received custody of the estate, assets,
and children. Women would receive nothing. However, divorce reform came around in the 1970 s to
fix this inequality. They introduced alimony payments and custody favoring women. With the changes
to divorce law, came more complexity in deciding cases. Cases, such as Dan v. Karen, have to take
into consideration lost opportunities, appropriate payment, and any future issues that might arise. In
Dan v Karen, Karen gave up her job to take care of their children, moved away from her family so
Dan could get a job, and provided for Dan when he did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They require a lot of consideration from the court and many factors, from the treatment of spouses to
the potential future one could have had outside of the marriage, affect the outcome. As such, there are
many change laws and views on policies. In modern divorce cases, a big issue is spousal support.
Spousal support was original thought of as compensation to a dependent wife for her divorcing
husband s breach of marital vows and responsibilities (244). However, modern divorce cases have
caused for a rethink of this aged idea. No fault divorces and changes in typical gender roles caused a
shift in typical spousal support. To correct this, spousal support was proposed to be seen as a
compensation for the dependent spouse s noneconomic support. Basically, the dependent spouse has
provided just as much for the family as the primary care taker. If the court see that the dependent
spouse s contributions have helped the non dependent spouse s ability to advance in their career, then
they should be compensated for this effort. The dependent spouses are no longer entirely dependent on
the primary caretaker. If a couple divorces, one spouse is not significantly disadvantaged for
sacrificing their career to help the family. In the case of Dan v. Karen, Karen is not harmed for her
efforts. It possible that Dan would never have obtained his road worker job, and thus be as financially
well off as he is if Karen did not quit her job and raise the kids.

Literature Review Of Literature On Influenza
Review of literature: Acute respiratory infections are a major cause of human disease and are one of
the most important causes of child mortality throughout the globe. Though there are considerable
variations in infantile mortality, according to World Health Organization, the lower respiratory tract
infections are the second most important cause of death among children 5 years of age. (Carolina et
al., 2012)
Respiratory syncytial virus is most frequently detected in childhood illness. Factors predisposing to
severe ARI caused by RSV are well known in industrialized countries but little information exists for
developing countries. Infection with human metapneumovirus (HMPV) presents similar clinical
symptoms to that of RSV . Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The multiplication of the virus occurs in the respiratory tract and the main site of infection occurs in
the ciliated columnar epithelial cell. Crowded areas and cold climate favours the spread of the virus.
Highest incidence of influenza infection is seen in young population which may be due to lack of
exposure to different strains. Children are mainly affected during epidemics (Rao, 2003). The
influenza virus triggers pulmonary inflammation resulting in infiltration of inflammatory cells and an
immune response. The primary target and the principal host for the virus are Bronchial epithelial cells.
Generally influenza viruses are recognized and destroyed by innate immune mechanisms which
includes macrophages, interferon (IFN) a, b and other cytokines, natural killer (NK) cells and
complement. If influenza viruses escape from these early defense mechanisms, they are captured and
destroyed by adaptive immune mechanisms, where T and B cells and their antigen specific effectors
(cytotoxic T lymphocytes, cytokines such as IFNc and antibodies) target the virus. subsequent viral
infection is prevented by Antigen specific memory cells (T and B cells) (Capelozzi et al.,

Analysis Of David Wilentz s Case
to the story. Attorney general David Wilentz was the prosecutor for the trial. Wilentz suggested to the
court that the ladder that was found on the Lindbergh property came from Mr. Hauptamnn s attic
(Quinlan Quinlan, 2013). He also stated that the telephone number of Condon was found scrawled on
a door frame inside a closet at Hauptmann s home (FBI 2013). According to Wilentz a portion of the
wood that was used to construct the ladder match the planks of wood found in Mr. Hauptmann s home
(Quinlan Quinlan, 2013). Wood expert Arthur Koehler was called upon to examine the wood.
According to his expertise in distinguishing wood, the ladder was constructed by a somewhat skilled
carpenter (Quinlan Quinlan, 2013). Koehler suggested that the ladder contained four different types of
woods (Quinlan Quinlan, 2013). One piece of wood appeared to be floor boarding that appeared to
have two distinctive nail holes (Quinlan Quinlan, 2013). Koehler also examined the floor board for
manufacturing cutting marks. Koehler contacted a total of 1,6600 timber mills across the United ...

Argumentative Essay On Sea 101
Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 101 is a very controversial bill in perception. When the legislation passed
in the Senate on February 24th with a vote of 40 10 there was little uproar regarding it. Then on March
23rd when the House passed the legislation by a vote of 63 31 there was uproar of regional per
portions. Then when signed into law by Governor Mike Pence on March 26th there was a national
uproar that gave the state a black eye. This legislation has been mischaracterized greatly by both
proponents and opponents alike. Many interpreted the law to either allow discrimination of the
LGBTQ community or give them immunity based on their religious beliefs. This lack of knowledge of
the intentions of the legislation and the public perception caused a media firestorm for Indiana. ...

Indiana General Assembly and the Governor a panel of knowledgeable representatives from both sides

A Brief Note On Skin And Skin Contact
Skin to Skin Contact: Final
Newborns are born with physiological challenges. They have physical immaturity that is not able to
function like an adult or child can. When newborns exit their mother s womb, the newborn is
welcomed into this new environment. The new environment can be unsafe, frightening, and cold for
them. The transition from fetal to newborn life can be full of instability. Skin to Skin Contact (SSC) is
placing the newborn on their mother s bare chest covered with a blanket. SSC warms a cool newborn
naturally and maintains optimal temperature. The use of thermometer measures the newborn s
temperature taken at the axillary site. Implementing SSC is cost efficient and offers many benefits. In
order for SSC to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Low body temperature is also called hypothermia. After the first few minutes of the newborn s birth,
body temperature decreases by a few degrees. Newborn s fall of temperature occurs immediately so
appropriate measures must be taken immediately to prevent heat loss. The temperature of the
environment will greatly affect the fall of the newborn s temperature. If proper measures are not
provided during the first 24 hours, heat loss will continue to occur that will place the newborn at risk
for developing hypothermia.
Rationale
Many studies showed that SSC possesses many benefits to both mother and newborn. The studies
were conducted in post delivery setting and showed many benefits over the past several years. Some
of these benefits include thermoregulation, increased infant stability, increased infant mother bonding,
improved breastfeeding and more (Moore, Anderson, Bergman, Dowswell, 2012). SSC will produce a
natural way of maintaining body homeostasis. When babies are born, their physiological function is
not ready for their new environment due to physical immaturity; they are not able to maintain
temperature regulation and are at risk for hypothermia. The World Health Organization (WHO) has a
couple recommendations pertaining to SSC. The first recommendation is placing all healthy newborns
in SSC with their mothers to maintain temperature and breastfeeding in the first hour of their lives

The Character Of Matilda By Roald Dahl s Matilda
Imagine for just a minute living as a young, about five and a half year old, little girl. The average five
year old would probably be doing things such as coloring, learning to read, being spoiled by their
parents and napping. But in Roald Dahl s novel ,Matilda. Let s just say Matilda is Not your average
five year old. Her hobbies include reading extensive novels, memorizing the twelve times tables and
writing limerick poems. While living with a rather ignorant family, you know the kind that eats in
front of the telly every night and doesn t believe in exercise or reading. Matilda has to overcome the
challenges thrown at her by her Mother, Father, and of course the dreaded Mrs.Trunchbull, her
horrendous school principal. Lucky for Matilda, she has Superlative smarts, outstanding wit, and a
heroic personality.
Matilda the protagonist in Roald Dahl s novel, is many things, In particular what stood out
indubitably, was matilda s remarkable intelligence. One example of this may be found on page 53,
Matilda said quietly , Dad, you made exactly four thousand three hundred and three pounds and fifty
pence altogether. The father glanced down at the paper in his hand. He seemed to stiffen. He became
very quiet. There was silence. As clearly shown in the text stated Matilda undoubtedly proves she is
far more intelligent than many, including her own father who not to mention is in his forties and
Matilda of course, is only five. Matildas smarts are shown yet again on page 13,

INITIAL REQUIREMENTS GENERAL For the last 2 years our company has been closely following the Sierra Leanean diamond Industry if we can call it that. Sierra Leone is a small country in West Africa mainly known because of the bloody and vicious civill war which ended about 3 years ago. I have visited this country a few times each time for a period of 1 month or more. During those vistts I tried to familiarize myself with the diamond and gold mining industry. [pic] We were put in contact by the mines ministry people with the (Paramount Chief) of Kamakwie area. The chief seems to be a faily decent person, more reliable than most locals. He is a relatively educated person and easy to deal with. After the initial meeting in Freetown we drove the company jeep to Kamakwie to close the deal. We spent in Kamakwie around 3 weeks during which we got an initial tour of the area, decided on the first site, signed the contract and started testing the site. Anexed is the the contact for the site, signed with the chief (ih handwriting). This contract together with my local resident Visa/work permit which II have aqquired in Freetown (see annexed), and the company papers is almost enough for us to practice mining in Kamakwie. The single additional document needed, is a local licence from the mining ministry branch nearest to Kamakwie (Makenny). At the time I am writing this Document, the licence is ready and waiting for me upon my return. One very important obstacle we overcame in kamakwie is the residence place. This has a much deeper meaning the deeper a reader gets into the play Fences . On page 57 Cory states Papa done went up to the school and told coach Zellman I can t play football no more . Troy, who is Cory s father does this to ultimately protect Cory from being racial discriminated in the big leagues for football. He wants to keep Cory inside the fence. So Troy tells Cory I m gonna tell you what your mistake was. See... you swung at the ball and didn t hit it. That s strike one. Don t strike out! (page 58) Troy is trying to teach Cory not to lie. Troy feels disrespected, so he is enforcing rules upon Cory. The second time he strikes out is when Cory and Troy get into a physical fight. This time troy tells him Alright. That s strike two. You stay away from around me, boy. Don t you strike out. (page 72) Troy is stunned at the fact that his son physically laid hands on him. But when Cory finally strikes out, Troy tells him Go on and get away from around my house (page 89) Troy was not going to be disrespected by his own son, so he resorted to just kicking him out. Troy was attempting to teach Cory to respect, without ever truly showing Cory what respect was. On Cory s second strike, Troy was found hurting Rose, which in no way was respectful. All Troy ever really wanted Cory to learn was to live without the help of others, for Cory to pave his own path. On page 39 he tells Rose He s healthy. he s got to make his own way. I made mine. • 4. Four Seasons Research Paper The Four Seasons are known as Solar Festivals, in that they mark a seasonal change caused by the Sun. The cross quarter days are marked by Fire Festivals and are usually celebrated as significant agricultural festivals. Together the Solar Festivals and the Fire Festivals make up the Wheel of the Year. The Wheel Of The Year, is often broken into eight festivals, whether they are the eight Asatru Blots, Seasonal Festivals or Celtic Sabbats, and the observance of Solar energies at the solstices and equinoxes and the Fire energies on the cross quarter days, is a common theme throughout the world. The Festivals of the Wheel of the Year also represent the active and dormant states of nature, man and agriculture. Each of the festival days was ruled by a governing deity, whether a God or Goddess, with each region having its own associated deity. From planting to reaping to winter to summer... the seasons were of great importance to our ancestors, for their very existence depended upon good harvests, mild winters, and enough rainfall. Our days start at sundown on the previous day. Therefore, November 1 is actually the night of October 31 through the day of November 1. The two poems Valentine and The Flea are about the two different ways in which the poets portray their views about love, however the poems are still linked in a few ways. The Flea was published in the seventeenth century and was written by John Donne . Valentine was published in 1983 and was written by Carol Ann Duffy . Both poems are addressed to an unknown lover. The poem Valentine is written in free verse form. Carol Ann Duffy could have used this irregular pattern because of the irregular present that she is giving to her lover. This is also one of only four cases of enjambment in this poem. The writer obviously wants the lines to flow into each other here maybe so it is like when tears are flowing down your face. Duffy then explores the idea of truth behind the relationship, quite the opposite of what John Donne believes of in his relationship. I am trying to be truthful. The writer obviously wants her lover to know the real meaning of love, not his stereotypical view. Duffy also wants to emphasise the fact of how irregular her present is and it should be thought of. Not a cute card or kissogram. She doesn t want him to receive the normal presents off her; she knows that he would just be expecting that and he wouldn t even think about the meaning of the normal presents. She wants to shock her lover with her present to make sure that the he understands the meaning of why she is giving him a present for Valentine s Day to offer a gift to your true love and emphasise how much you care about them. Duffy then repeats the first line of her poem again in the middle of the poem. I give you an onion. She is repeating the line to emphasise the meaning of the present, or it could be to start a different part of the poem, a different attitude towards love. Then there is a contrast with a line in the first stanza. Its fierce kiss will stay on your

  • 8. Roger Chillingworth Stemming from the thought of a forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, knowledge and sin have been interwoven for all of humanity. The Puritans, godly appearances aside, are no exception. In The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne, the innermost workings of a seemingly dignified society are revealed. By doing so, Hawthorne advocates that all knowledge and sin are ultimately inseparable. The character known as Roger Chillingworth is focused on a fiery revenge throughout the course of the novel. The entire premise of this vengeance is the thirst for knowledge, for clarity, and for clearance. Roger explains to his former wife, Hester, that there are...few things hidden from the man who devotes himself earnestly and unreservedly to the solution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When addressing his lover, Hester, at her public trial, he implores her passionately to reveal the identity of her lover, well knowing that it is himself. Be not silent from any mistaken pity and tenderness for him...through he were to step down from a high place (63). While Hawthorne has the minister committing a sin in and of itself by requesting Hester to reveal the identity of the lover, the minister is also forcing Hester to commit another sin because of her knowledge lying. The knowledge between the lovers results in undeniable sin for the both of them. Yet, Dimmesdale s sin with Hester gives him insight into how to connect with his congregation. As the narrator states, this very burden it was that gave him sympathies so intimate with the sinful brotherhood of mankind, so that his heart vibrated in unison with theirs. (129). Hawthorne utilizes the paradox of a sinful minister to highlight Dimmesdale s inner sin. Yet, Dimmesdale becomes a better preacher and arguably a better person through his fall into sin. He can relate to the masses, instead of being held up on his own pedestal. As such, Dimmesdale s sin brings him knowledge. Throughout Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, knowledge and sin are ultimately inseparable. While almost all of the characters in the novel sin, Hawthorne ends optimistically with ... In result of this, humanity has developed the tendency of antagonizing beliefs and concepts foreign to one s own. This becomes problematic when exposed to an abnormal surrounding or idea. Despite being told otherwise, we let our own ignorance dictate our definition of what is good and bad for us and others. This becomes apparent through written literature. This report looks at how the change can be implemented using Lewin s Change Model, Balance Scorecard and effective leadership. Introduction According to Hrebiniak (2006), formulating a consistent strategy is a difficult task however implementing it is even more difficult. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the analysis it has been concluded that the BBC should keep BBC3 on the TV and instead remove BBC4. One reason for this strategy has been suggested is because the BBC have many diversified products to meet requirement of each customer (BBC, 2014). However, BBC3 is the only channel that caters to the younger market, 16 34 year olds, therefore by removing this from TV they would no longer have a channel for this market. It has been found that youth are already underserved and older audiences are over served (Plunkett, 2014) therefore by removing BBC3 from the TV they would be further underserved. Additionally, there has been a signed petition against the BBC3 proposal (Change.org 2015) suggesting that its customers do not want it to be taken off TV. Furthermore 16% of UK households don t have access to internet and by removing BBC3 from the TV that 16% of the market will not be able to access it. BBC4 have 2 million less viewers than BBC3 each week (BBC 2015). Additionally, BBC4 has many repeat shows on the channel and also similar shows to BBC2 therefore by closing BBC4 instead of BBC3 the BBC would lose less customers. Closing BBC4 would involve transferring longstanding programmes that are shown on BBC4 to BBC 2 as the two channels are already working closely together (BBC 2015). Although this was the main method of control the Bolshevik leadership only had a certain degree of control over the party that was not great between 1917, when the party seized power to 1924, when the soviet constitution was established. Bolshevik use of terror enabelled the leadership to reinforce their hold over the party. This was due to Cheka; Lenin s secret police who were formed in 1917. • 16. Domestic Violence Against Women in Canada Essay Introduction Intimate partner violence has been a significant issue for centuries in all countries. Since 1974, nearly 2,600 spousal homicides have been recorded in Canada (Bunge, 2002). Of these homicides, more than three quarters have been against women. Although through feminism and the women s liberation movement, there has been a slight improvement in the incidences of violence against women, there has also been a drastic change in the perception of the issue by society. After reviewing the most recent literature on violence against women and victimization through intimate partners, it has become prevalent that there are now two crucial stances that are taken. The first position is that of the women being victimized as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, changing nature of intimate relationships, increasing gender equality, legislative changes, policy and procedural changes, etc. (Bunge, 2002). Between 1974 and 2000, the homicide rate for women decreased by 62% and the homicide rate for men dropped by more than half 55% (Bunge, 2002) which demonstrates the drastic decline in intimate partner violence including homicides. Secondly, one of the general concepts behind the literature examined would be the idea that intimate partner violence is now going through a process of normalization. For instance, popular women s magazines frame domestic violence in a way that normalizes the victims s responsibility while ignoring the role of the abuser and society (Berns, 2001). Individuals construct their own conceptions of what is normal and acceptable. These conceptions, what Cicourel (1968) calls background expectancies govern all social interaction (Berns, 2001). With the norms that society creates being the main control of interaction amongst society, it is clear that by allowing the perspective of intimate partner violence as normal will create unawareness about the issue and may perpetuate further issues. Women who have respect and power outside the home through community activities, including participation in microcredit schemes, are less likely to be abused than those who do not (Jewkes, 2002). ... I am specially trained to disassemble, clean, rebuild, and test hydraulic components according to required specifications. Speech 251 has built my communication skills up to the point where I can clearly communicate, with my team members, while conducting hydraulic tests. As the year is coming to an end, Hydraulics is experiencing another slow period. As work slows down, I continue to educate myself by reading step processes in technical manuals and by studying drawings to continue my growth in aspects that pertain to my job. Moreover, as a second year apprentice, communication has proven to be one of the most valuable skills, both written and verbal. Speech 251 has lent me a hand. Dr. Halbert s persistence in the value of public speaking has been beneficial in establishing communication skills. In example, we regularly hold board meetings where job statuses and injury reports are discussed with upper management. Having the confidence to speak professionally, in a public setting, helps the production move on schedule. Being able to update those, who manage the projects, allows future planning to flow accordingly. In my opinion, a sense of pride can be seen in my work. This analysis is on a specific old commercial, sadly of unknown age, but probably from around 1950 1960. The commercial in question is found on YouTube, and it s made in USA. KFC is a fast food chain that sells fried chicken, amongst other things, and is especially popular is the US. To summarize the commercial it starts with a few women being displayed, all thinking about what to serve for dinner. As mentioned before, the music is suiting to the commercial, however it hasn t any excitement to it. In the whole, the clip has an old feel to it, in a negative way. It is an old commercial, which makes it rather obvious that it will look old, but that part is not appreciated by everyone today. There are a few things that could be modified to make it better, for example the special price. To make it more interesting, it should be moving after a few seconds, for instance display someone enjoying the two for one meal. The ancient feeling is a bit hard to remove without remaking the entire commercial today, but maybe that s a good thing. This commercial isn t like the rest and perhaps that s what people like about it. If I received the chance to make some small adjustments I would probably start with finding them a catchphrase. To wrap it all up, KFC has really succeeded with this commercial, it s convincing and looks delicious. There is a slight problem though, I m a vegetarian, therefore I won t buy the product. • 24. The Effect Of Velocity On A Flat Plate Boundary Layer Introduction: The purpose of this experiment was to measure the magnitude of velocity in a flat plate boundary layer in which the pressure was constant. A pitot tube located at the top of the test section that was used to determine the total pressure across the boundary layer. The Pitot tube needed to be able to more along both horizontal and vertical directions for accurate measurements. Five different tubes, aligned along the x axis, were placed under the wind tunnel test section to measure the static pressure. The result of both the static and total pressures is the dynamic pressure. Theory: The boundary layer is defined as a thin layer of any fluid adjacent to the solid surface it surrounds. The characteristics of a boundary layer are basically what define the effects of viscosity. The velocity of the boundary layer starts from a value of zero at the solid surface and increases until it reaches a maximum which happens to be the free stream velocity. In other words, theoretically speaking the boundary layer is infinite, but for measurement purposes the boundary layers ends where the velocity gradient is 99% of the free stream velocity. The Reynolds number, a unit less ratio of inertial forces to viscous forces, is used to identify the several inner layers of the boundary layer. Furthermore, as previously mentioned when a body parallel to the flow, such as a flat plate, is placed in the parallel direction of a free stream flow, a boundary layer is formed. At the ... The king assumed a very modest position and exalted the powerful Turk. He referred to himself as your humble slave , denoted Yabgu Khan as your highness Khan and pleaded for the protection of the humble slave s brother in the same way as you protect your humble slave . The rhetoric employed by the king suggests that he respected the Turkish ruler very much and perhaps feared him a little too. It also sheds some light on the disposition of the Turk; perhaps Yabgu Khan required such appeasement and it kept him from being hostile as he didn t perceive the other as a threat. Another important thing to note here is that the twenty four letters were attached to a bolt of heavy damask . In that particular period silk was considered very special and it represented wealth. The Chinese also used to use silks as effective economic inducements when conducting diplomacy with nomadic people (Silks and Religions in Eurasia, C. A.D. 600 1200). Two reasons why the setting is very significant are, Maycomb County is a small town the significance of that is that everyone knows each other and often have the same views as each other this in turn causes prejudice. Also, Maycomb community finds their history to be very important this changes how people act which shows how the setting could have major effects. To this day women continue to experience this identical process. Although one may love her Christmas sweater, if her neighbor does not own one or wrinkles her nose at the idea of wearing such a thing, she will immediately go home and dispose of the sweater without thinking twice about her actions or her personal feelings toward the item of clothing. Twain also mentions how twenty five years ago there would be six of eight wine glasses given to each person attending a dinner party, and they were to be used, not left idle and empty , but today there are but three of four wine glasses and on average and only two are sparingly emptied by each guest (719). Twain follows this observation by expanding his opinion on conformity. He offers the idea that people follow certain trends without thinking them through. The people attending these dinner parties have no idea why they only consume two glasses when twenty five years ago people consumed three to four times as much. Humans, in general, do not look for the answer to the question why? , but instead only worry about what other people do and if their actions are satisfactory to those surrounding them. She was born to a middle class family as the youngest of four children. Her father was a successful real estate broker who also founded one of the first Negro banks in Chicago (Adams 247). Lorraine s mother was a schoolteacher named Nannie Perry who later became a ward committeewoman. In 1938, Lorraine s father took a stand against the real estate covenants in Chicago due to the fact that they legally promoted housing discrimination. He chose to move his family into a predominantly white neighborhood to prove his point and try to make a change. The court case that resulted from this stand led to a lot of hostility from those around the Hansberry family. There was a violent attack on the family s home by a mob who threw bricks into the house while shouting. Even with this reaction to the Hansberrys moving into the neighborhood, the family decided to stay to stand their ground. The court case went all the way to the federal Supreme Court where the ruling was that this kind of discrimination was unlawful. However, Chicago continued restrictive covenants anyways and eventually the Hansberry family was forced to move out of the neighborhood ( Lorraine Hansberry Gale). Through these events, companies should try to create a company culture that takes into consideration of all the generations, so that everyone can work together without any disagreements about the culture of the company (Srivastava). All the generations believe that there are certain negative stereotypes associated with each age group and these stereotypes can cause conflicts and challenges in the workplace because one generation will think they are better than another which will cause the generations to not work well with each other. For example, the stereotypes that older generations believe that Millennials have are that they are lazy, entitled, tech obsessed, and overeager while the Millennials view the older generations as being too stubborn to change and difficult to train (Srivastava). Stereotypes in the workplace is a big challenge for many organizations that have many generations working together, but the best way to tackle this problem is for leaders of a company to instill in their workers to not label other generations and not let the perceived stereotypes change how they view all age groups (Gausepohl, 2016). In addition, the leaders are also encouraged to get involved in any problems that are forming in their company and they should take immediate action to resolve them. The main reason why stereotypes in the workplace is a challenge is because of the pride and ignorance that each generation has that creates these beliefs about each age group. Therefore, in this essay I will explore and compared themes such as Confucianism, Taoism and even their written word and how those have influences art in China through the ages. The concept of Confucianism began over two thousand five hundred years ago, and it is largely defined by three key principles. That etiquette is integral to harmony, authority is to be respected and most importantly tradition and history is to be remembered and revered. All three of these principles are equally important and Confucians believe that these teachings are the best way to have a peaceful and uncorrupted society and the best way to carry yourself as a person. However, I claimed that reverence towards tradition was the most important principle because I have found that it is the most common theme related to Confucianism that appears in Chinese art. In this essay I will be discussing the extent that Dmitri Shostakovich adhered to and rebelled from the conventions and traditions that were normalized in classical music and I will offer varied examples of the many times Shostakovich has obeyed and dissented within music throughout his career. The career span of Shostakovich extends from 1926 when he presented his first major work, Symphony No.1 to 1970 when he presented Quartet No. 7. Born Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich on the 25th September, 1906, in St. Petersburg, Russia, the composer began his descent into classical music at the age of 9, before later moving on to study at the Petrograd conservatory. As many may be aware, there was an out lash on social media websites, such as Twitter and Facebook, over this ad that featured a cheerful interracial couple and their children. The whimsical, laughing family seemed innocent enough, but there was a clear revolt among the more bigoted communities. This lead to a powerful reaction from interracial couples and families who took the rejection of the ad personally. In turn, they posted their own photos of their families to protest the racism and supposed white discrimination that many complained of. This was a very important event because it brought the topic of interracial couples into the spotlight of the media and it was clear that there was a very steady divide between those who accepted and disapproved. While this wasn t necessarily a poll or a census, there was a very clear message that could be concluded from the Twitter war (Perez Pena ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am looking into different fields and what would interest me, and at the moment I am looking toward photography related fields. One career that I have been interested in lately is a forensic photographer, or crime scene photographer. They are called to crime scenes in order to take photographs for the law enforcement, so they can study them for future purposes. Cases can take months or even years to solve, so these photographs help preserve the original scene and evidence. • 42. Pink Floy s Mother Analysis Pink Floyd s Mother debuted on November 30th, 1979. While Kendrick Lamar s FEAR. debuted on April 14th, 2017. Although nearly 38 years apart, the two songs show a deep response to the tactics of their mother s parenthood. To begin, Mother is sung with incredible eeriness and passion. The structure of the song brings to life the singer s (Roger Waters) confusion towards his mother. In the beginning of the song, they ask, Mother, do you think they ll like this song? Mother, do you think they ll try to break my balls? These lines refer to the public as they . He is asking his mother, in a curious, youthful state if the world will like his music, and if they will ridicule him for it. This plea for reassurance shows how devoted he is to his mother. Waters also asks his mother, should I build the wall? his reason for asking this question shows he is willing to block out the world if his mother told him to do so. In the first verse, Kendrick relives instances where his mother told him that she would beat his a** if he did anything she did not approve of. These situations imposed serious control of Kendrick s lifestyle and responsibilities. Moreover, near the end of the second verse Kendrick says, All worries in a hurry, I wish I controlled things. This desire shows how, much like Pink Floyd s need to tear down the wall, Kendrick needs to control things the way his mother did. In summary, Kendrick Lamar expresses a rooted fear of his mother, rather than the world. • 43. Divorce Cases In The 1600 s As long as there has been marriage, there has been divorce. Divorce cases have dated as far back as the 1600 s. Originally, they were simple matters. Men, generally, received custody of the estate, assets, and children. Women would receive nothing. However, divorce reform came around in the 1970 s to fix this inequality. They introduced alimony payments and custody favoring women. With the changes to divorce law, came more complexity in deciding cases. Cases, such as Dan v. They require a lot of consideration from the court and many factors, from the treatment of spouses to the potential future one could have had outside of the marriage, affect the outcome. As such, there are many change laws and views on policies. In modern divorce cases, a big issue is spousal support. Spousal support was original thought of as compensation to a dependent wife for her divorcing husband s breach of marital vows and responsibilities (244). However, modern divorce cases have caused for a rethink of this aged idea. No fault divorces and changes in typical gender roles caused a shift in typical spousal support. To correct this, spousal support was proposed to be seen as a compensation for the dependent spouse s noneconomic support. Basically, the dependent spouse has provided just as much for the family as the primary care taker. If the court see that the dependent spouse s contributions have helped the non dependent spouse s ability to advance in their career, then they should be compensated for this effort. The dependent spouses are no longer entirely dependent on the primary caretaker. If a couple divorces, one spouse is not significantly disadvantaged for sacrificing their career to help the family. In the case of Dan v. Karen, Karen is not harmed for her efforts. It possible that Dan would never have obtained his road worker job, and thus be as financially well off as he is if Karen did not quit her job and raise the kids. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Literature Review Of Literature On Influenza Review of literature: Acute respiratory infections are a major cause of human disease and are one of the most important causes of child mortality throughout the globe. Though there are considerable variations in infantile mortality, according to World Health Organization, the lower respiratory tract infections are the second most important cause of death among children 5 years of age. (Carolina et al., 2012) Respiratory syncytial virus is most frequently detected in childhood illness. The multiplication of the virus occurs in the respiratory tract and the main site of infection occurs in the ciliated columnar epithelial cell. Crowded areas and cold climate favours the spread of the virus. Highest incidence of influenza infection is seen in young population which may be due to lack of exposure to different strains. Children are mainly affected during epidemics (Rao, 2003). The influenza virus triggers pulmonary inflammation resulting in infiltration of inflammatory cells and an immune response. The primary target and the principal host for the virus are Bronchial epithelial cells. Generally influenza viruses are recognized and destroyed by innate immune mechanisms which includes macrophages, interferon (IFN) a, b and other cytokines, natural killer (NK) cells and complement. If influenza viruses escape from these early defense mechanisms, they are captured and destroyed by adaptive immune mechanisms, where T and B cells and their antigen specific effectors (cytotoxic T lymphocytes, cytokines such as IFNc and antibodies) target the virus. subsequent viral infection is prevented by Antigen specific memory cells (T and B cells) (Capelozzi et al., ... • 45. Analysis Of David Wilentz s Case to the story. Attorney general David Wilentz was the prosecutor for the trial. Wilentz suggested to the court that the ladder that was found on the Lindbergh property came from Mr. Hauptamnn s attic (Quinlan Quinlan, 2013). He also stated that the telephone number of Condon was found scrawled on a door frame inside a closet at Hauptmann s home (FBI 2013). According to Wilentz a portion of the wood that was used to construct the ladder match the planks of wood found in Mr. Hauptmann s home (Quinlan Quinlan, 2013). Wood expert Arthur Koehler was called upon to examine the wood. According to his expertise in distinguishing wood, the ladder was constructed by a somewhat skilled carpenter (Quinlan Quinlan, 2013). Koehler suggested that the ladder contained four different types of woods (Quinlan Quinlan, 2013). • 47. A Brief Note On Skin And Skin Contact Skin to Skin Contact: Final Newborns are born with physiological challenges. They have physical immaturity that is not able to function like an adult or child can. When newborns exit their mother s womb, the newborn is welcomed into this new environment. The new environment can be unsafe, frightening, and cold for them. The transition from fetal to newborn life can be full of instability. Skin to Skin Contact (SSC) is placing the newborn on their mother s bare chest covered with a blanket. SSC warms a cool newborn naturally and maintains optimal temperature. The use of thermometer measures the newborn s temperature taken at the axillary site. Implementing SSC is cost efficient and offers many benefits. In order for SSC to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Low body temperature is also called hypothermia. After the first few minutes of the newborn s birth, body temperature decreases by a few degrees. Newborn s fall of temperature occurs immediately so appropriate measures must be taken immediately to prevent heat loss. The temperature of the environment will greatly affect the fall of the newborn s temperature. If proper measures are not provided during the first 24 hours, heat loss will continue to occur that will place the newborn at risk for developing hypothermia. Rationale Many studies showed that SSC possesses many benefits to both mother and newborn. The studies were conducted in post delivery setting and showed many benefits over the past several years. Some of these benefits include thermoregulation, increased infant stability, increased infant mother bonding, improved breastfeeding and more (Moore, Anderson, Bergman, Dowswell, 2012). SSC will produce a natural way of maintaining body homeostasis. When babies are born, their physiological function is not ready for their new environment due to physical immaturity; they are not able to maintain temperature regulation and are at risk for hypothermia. The World Health Organization (WHO) has a couple recommendations pertaining to SSC. The first recommendation is placing all healthy newborns in SSC with their mothers to maintain temperature and breastfeeding in the first hour of their lives (Guidelines on ...
