one of the main themes is the survival. Throughout the book the characters are trying to survive
from being either killed or being converted into vampires. The City of Ember also shows the
theme of survival, but the character aren t at risk from a certain entity that is out to kill them.
The characters are threatened by the upper class society, because they limit their chance for
survival. Dracula and The City of Ember also portray the theme of greed. Dracula wants to
expand to drain more blood from people and expand his curse among others. The mayor of The
City of Ember displays greed by not sharing the resources with his community so that they can
sustain themselves. Although both characters show greed, they each have a different motive.
Dracula greed is to spread his disease and harm others while the mayor is just greedy for his own
survival. Both publications are one of a kind with their independent themes which are similar and
