Marina Abramovic Research Paper
Marina Abramovic and Ulay is often called the grandmother of performance art In 2005(?), after
parting ways with Ulay both romantically and artistically, Marina Abramovic started a new
group of work Seven Easy Piece. In this work she mostly reenacted performances both hers and
other artists (Marina Abramovic, Kristine Stiles, Klaus Biesenbach, Chrissie Iles). This decision
shows Abramovic desire to find herself a new voice by using those of others. Contrary to her
past work she is not the creator but the actor in those performances. The choice to reanact her
piece Thomas Lips whom she created before meeting Ulay is particularly interesting as it express
the desire to trace back who she was before her heavily emotional collaboration. Abramovic and
Ulay s time together had indeed been They were born on the same day (November 30th) and thus
felt as if they had just found a long lost sibling. This cultivates a strong idea of fate and destiny in
their relationship. Marina Abramovic said in the documentary Marina Abramovic: The Artist is

In 2010 from March 14 May 31, 2010 (750 hours) Marina Abramovic held a retrospective of her
work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The artist had her pieces re performed by a
group of young performance artists whom she hand picked and trained herself. This decision
shows the artist was ready not only to pass on the baton to a new generation of performance
artists but also of creating a final distance between the personal aspect of her relationship with
Ulay and the work they created as a pair. By having the work performed by someone else the
personal story in which it was created disappears to make way for a more literal interpretation of
the piece. Her performances where then not a story of her personal struggles but a exercise for
people to try

Essay On Diamond Game
Hunter When we pull up to the diamonds there are games being played. I get out of the car and
meet up with the team. We start warming up and getting ready for our first game. Once the
game is over we get in our dugout and get pumped. Me and carter play catch while the captains
are flipping the coin. We lost the coin toss and we are away. I m first batter so I start swinging
the bat while the pitcher is warming up. After about 5 pitches the umpire tells me batter up. I
walk up to the plate, and get ready to swing. The first pitch I hit to third. I run as fast as I can and
get to first before the ball can get to the first baseman. The coach gives me the sign to steal. Right

decorah play first. When they are playing we are getting hydrated. Coach talks to us and gets us
pumped. Our next game is gonna be our biggest game of the year. We are playing decorah. When
the Decorah vs. South winn game is over we get into our dugout. We get home on the coin toss,
and we take the field. The first 5 batters for decorah are good. Carter is our pitcher for this game
and he s good. The first batter steps up to the plate and we get ready. Carter pitches the ball and
he hits a grounder to center fielder. The batter only gets to first. The second hitter isn t as good as
the first one but he is still good. Carter pitches the ball and the batter at first starts running to
second. I have to wait until I know the batter isn t going to hit it then I run to second. The batter
gets there before I can tag him. The second pitch the base runner runs to third and the batter hits
the ball right to me. I ground the ball and throw it to first and the base runner stays at third. The

Male homoeroticism in Plato s Symposium and the Greek lyric poets: Complimentary or
contradictory?
Works Cited Missing
Images of male homosocial and homoerotic relations pervade Athenian culture. From plays to
poetry and jugs to the justice system one can find these relations represented pictorially and in
words. But do all these images align with each other or are there irreconcilable differences
between them? To look at this question we will take two small pieces of culture, a philosophical
treatise, Plato s Symposium and the lyric poetry of Theognis and Anacreon.
Homoerotics are mentioned in several speeches in Plato s Symposium but I will focus on those
statements made by Phaedras and Pausanias. The reason for the use of these ... Show more content

(Theognis, 1267 1270) and again, ?Boy, you?re like those adrift in risks, / your mood now
friendly to some, now others.? (Theognis, 1257 1258) Theognis speaks clearly of an erastes who?s
virtuous behavior has been repaid with infidelity and ?slutting around.? The erastes feels betrayed
and regretful that this boy he cares for appears headed for dangerous risks implying htta he expects
honorable behavior. But this is not the end of Phaedras? praise for homoerotic relations.
Phaedras continues on and speaks of the things that Love can inspire men to. Though he does not
confine these benefits to homosocial interactions, he does specifically include them. After stating
that older men are more prone to die than be humiliated in the sight of their eromenos, he goes on
to say that, ??as for abandoning his boyfriend or not helping him when danger threatens ? well,
possession by love would infuse even utter cowards with courage. ? Moreover, only lovers are
prepared to sacrifice themselves ? and this goes for women as well as men.? (Phaedras, 179a)
Phaedras claims, similarly to modern poets that love will drive one to the brink or even over the
edge of death. It is hardly surprising, then, to find a similar image again in the poetry of
Theognis, ?Boy, as long as your cheek is smooth, I?ll never / stop praising you, not even if I have
to die.? (Theognis, 1327 1334) On the inclusion of women, however, Theognis disagrees with

The Art Nouveau Caused By King Leopold II Of Belgium
In Belgium, the Art Nouveau provided works of Victor Horta. The beauty of these artist works
often overshadows the historic context that funded, supplied, inspired this art and design
movement. The transformation art and design in Brussels during this time was a product of
imperialism and genocide sanctioned by King Leopold II of Belgium, through the exploitation and
appropriation Congolese culture and raw materials.
Born in Brussels, Belgium in 1835, Leopold II became the second king of Belgium at the age of
30 [Fig1]. Belgium was a young country with an equally small economy and population. Striving to
compete the economic success of Britain and Germany, Leopold II would turn his attention towards
Africa, with the purpose of establishing Belgium as a world power, during a time of imperial
growth, which coincided, with the expiation of Art Nouveau in Europe. To acquire the land, raw
materials, and population of twenty million; Leopold II effectively established control of the
Congo through economic and political means. Leopold II was one of the first European rulers to
attempt to develop this area and would successfully obtain it in 1885, creating the Congo Free State
(Frost 2001). Leopold II did many things in order to acquire this colony. For example, he exploited
tensions other colonies controlled by Britain and Germany, by hosting the Brussels Conference of
1876, which lead to the creation of the International African Association; established arbitrate

How Did Anne Moody Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement
The abolishment of slavery in 1865 was only the beginning of a long, strenuous fight for African
American citizens in the United States. The abolition may have freed the slaves physically but did
not free them of the social injustices they had yet to endure. The African American civil rights
movement took place in 1954 through 1968. (history.com) The civil rights movement is described
as the struggle for social justice, a battle fought for blacks to be seen as equals under the laws of
the United states. Many people were involved in progressing the movement including but not
limited to Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, Malcom X and Anne Moody. Throughout her lifetime
Anne Moody has had a major impact on the African AmericanCivil rights movement. Despite her
personal struggles, Moody used her life to promote the enlightenment and progression of African
American citizens. Moody s perseverance, hatred, and alienation contributed to her educational and
creative success as well as her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the novel, Coming of
age in Mississippi.
Essie Mae Moody also known as Anne Moody was born September 15, 1940 in Wilkerson
County Mississippi to Fred Moody and Elnire Davis. (briticanna.com) She was the eldest of nine.

Assasination of Leon Trotsky
The Assassination of Leon Trotsky
During the power struggle in Russia, an escaped prisoner of the name Lev Bronstein, was
murdered on August 20th, 1940 by Ramon Mercader. Bronstein was a Russian marxist who went
against Stalin s beliefs. He was forced to leave the country by Stalin s wishes. However, before he
left he accomplished many things such as helping the Bolsheviks into power and creating the South
Russian Workers Union.
Lev Bronstein was born on November 8th, 1879 and grew up in a small town in Yanovka,
present day Ukraine. He was the 5th child of a well off Jewish farmer. When Bronstein was 9, he
was sent to finish his schooling in Nikolayev. As a teenager he was very interested in socialism and
helped create the South Russia Worker s Union. He was later arrested along with 200 other union
workers and was sent to jail for four years. While he was in prison, he married a woman named
Aleksandra Soklovskaya and together they had two daughters . He abandoned his wife and kids.
He then escaped prison, obtained a forged passport and changed his name to Leon Trotsky.
He then moved to London, England where he joined with Lenin and his group of Russian Social
Democrats. He began working on a revolutionary newspaper called Iskra. That same year, he met
a woman named Natalia Sedova. They married and had two sons together. Later, while Russia was

Conquest And The Conquest Of Land
Conquest is one simple little word with tremendously rich background and history. Conquest in
short is defined to gain a victory over. Conquest has lead to the beginnings of new lands and has
created the end of an old. Many different interactions between groups of people and their lands have
occurred throughout history that ultimately lead into the conquest of land. First and foremost
before interactions occurred there was reasoning behind conquests. The root of conquest can be
narrowed down into three categories. These categories are God, glory, and gold. Religions that are
big on conversion looked upon conquest as an opportunity to gain more believers, therefore
pleasing their god more. Glory was as simple as glory for the homeland to claim increased land.
Lastly, just like today humans wanted riches. Striking gold meant just that, becoming rich. Along
with each conquest brought upon many different interactions and consequences from those
interactions. These interactions are what set up the foundation of nations relationships. Starting
with the background of conquest before the two types of interactions. The Spanish main religion in
the fifteenth to sixteenth centuries was Catholic. As members of the Catholic faith, the Spanish felt
as though it was there right to explore new lands as long as that meant converting the natives from
their previous religious views to the beliefs of Catholicism. As HernГЎn CortГ©s tore through the

Analysis Of Mark Twain s The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
Chris Andrews

English 3
Trust is Earned
Trust is having the confidence to rely on someone or something. This attribute is extremely hard
to achieve and requires sacrifices. For Huck to find a home or a place he is comfortable with he
needs to have the feeling that he is surrounded by characters of reliance and assurance. Huck Finn
has a highly different perspective of the world opposed to the people who surround him. Most
importantly, Huck struggles heavily on determining the difference between right and wrong
because of the people around him that influence him. He makes his decisions based upon past
experiences dictated by trust. Mark Twain makes the choice of a social satire because having
Huck tell the story allows the reader to see and understand how a child interprets what happens
around him. The reader can then view Hucks thought process and grasp what he is feeling. For
example, while being around his father, Huck does not feel safe therefore he runs away. Throughout
the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck comes across multiple families and people, yet he never
experiences a truly comfortable feeling among any family due his conscience constantly fighting
with his white southern instincts.
Moreover, Huck begins his story being constantly harassed by his drunk father. His father is
consistently looked upon by the town as a failure and a disgrace to the south. Pap is continually
beating Huck for going to school because he believes by

Language and Social Class in Demirciler
In the Life in a Turkish Village, Joe E. Pierce discusses the culture of the village, Demirciler,
located in Turkey. He studies the social structure, the religious practices, the political system, and
other aspects of this village s culture. In his ethnography, Pierce expounds on the societal
segregation of the men and women and its translation into social class. While the separation of both
genders is prominent in the societal practices, it is also reflected in their native tongue. To
demonstrate the relationship between language and social class, I will analyze and review how the
Turkish language of Demirciler is a linguistic representation of the social structure with a thorough
examination of the societal practices and a semantic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This hypothesis can be applied to the native tongue of Demirciler. In the Turkish language,
Pierce notes, Men and women are labeled differently for relatives older than ego, but not for those
younger (Pierce 81). Ego s uncles of his father s lineage are referred to as amca and Ego s aunts of
his father s lineage are referred to as hala. Ego s uncles of his mother s lineage are called dayz,
while aunt s on his mother s side are called teyze (Pierce 80). Ego s grandfathers are both referred
to as dede and his grandmothers are both called ebe. Because these kin terms individually identify
the male and female members of the family readers gain insight into the citizens perspective and
can comprehend their view on the social status of men and women. This kinship terminology also
illustrates that social status is defined by not only sex, but age as well. While males and females
have different kin terms, this only applies to members of an older generation. The gender of young
children is not specified in the Turkish language; there is one term used to identify young
children: kardes. If Ego had older brothers and sisters, they would be recognized by separate
terms, however, if Ego had younger siblings they would be labeled by the same kin term. Pierce
sates, The kinship terms illustrate . . . the sharp distinction between males and females as well as
the sharp

Black Americans And The Black Freedom Struggle
Many have thought that the end of the civil war was also the end of the suppression against
Black Americans. However, real freedom hasn t been present to them. Discriminations against
Black Americans were transformed and still exist in other aspects. The life of a Black American
was planned before he or she was born, not much freedom in their hands. Black American
experience disadvantage and discrimination in many different institutions that all prove the
existence of Neocolonialism. From housing to education, formal and informal social controls
prevented them from equality and freedom. Moreover, Black youth was forced to be in the
pipeline of incarceration from school, because of the lack of resources and attention to them. In
this ongoing fight for Black Freedom, many influential Black leaders stepped up. One of them
is one of the most important figures in the Black freedom struggle history, Ella Baker. This essay
will first, explain key issues on Black Americans freedom in housing and school to prison
pipeline, then identify Ella Baker s theory in the Black Freedom Struggle, and finally define what
freedom means. It s the American dream to own a house with beautiful white fences and yard and
live joyfully with families, but not many Black Americans can live up to that dream. The hate and
prejudice against Black American didn t reduce much since the end of the civil war. I m not
prejudice, but I d burn this building down before I d sell it to any damned nigger.

The Benefits Of Community Gardening
Another aspect of community gardening, is regarding those who participate in it. Community
gardens can be seen in many cities, with the community coming together to grow produce and
relationships along the way. However, it is becoming a growing trend to start this idea at a younger
scale. Many schools across North America have started implementing a gardeninto their after
school or extracurricular programs. By introducing gardening to children at a young age allows
for them to take in many of the benefits that come from gardening, and encouraging new ways of
engagement. Gardening provides many hands on activities for children, including designing,
planting, and harvesting the food (Yost, 2009). Many studies have shown that children who take
care of a garden, or live near one, are more likely to show an interest in gardening as they grow up
and develop a strong relationship with gardens and trees (Lohr, 2005).
In California, school gardens have become very popular and are continuously promoting them
through the State s Education Department. An example of one of the schools in the state is Le
Conte Elementary School, which not only has flowers and vegetables, but also livestock, like goats
and chickens. The science curriculum at the school is very inclusive with gardening activities, such
as propagation, transplanting, and composting (Ferris, 2001).
There have been many studies on the effects of school gardens on children. They have shown that

Bergerac Systems: The Challenge of Backward Integration
Abstract
Veterinary expenditure has been on an increasing trend due to the increase in pet ownership in the
United States. Bergerac is a company producing equipments used for testing pet patients in the
veterinarian clinics. Omnivue is one of the most successful equipments produced by the company,
which is priced at a competitive rate to attract lower and middle sized veterinarians. The production
of Omnivue involves the use of plastics and chemical reagents supplied by two major suppliers,

Hence, manufacturing department should not interfere in the distribution department, and the latter
should be experienced in distribution of products like Omnivue to the end customers.
Strategic Alternative 2 Backward Integration
Backward integration is a type of vertical integration in which a company takes control over its
suppliers. It is a form of acquisition of the intermediary players involved in supplying the raw
materials used in the production process of the firm. Raw materials, intermediate manufacturing and
assembly are controlled by the firm whereas distribution to the end customer is done by a third
party company. In this way, company increases production efficiency and gains a competitive
advantage by lowering its production cost.
Bergerac can opt for the buy option and implement its backward integration by acquiring
GenieTech. GenieTech can provide the company with eight efficient molding machines for the
acquisition price of $ 5.75 million. The price includes experienced labor force and management.
Bergerac can fulfill its chemical reagent demand by using 4 out of 8 moulds provided in the
acquisition. Rest of the presses can be used in the expansion process or can be used to meet the
demand of a third party. This investment can result in the reduction of overhead expenses by
twenty six percent per unit. Bergerac can pay the amount over a period of five years making the

Fast Food Dangers
Dangers Of Fast Food Fast food is delicious, but is it deadly? Over the years the fast food
industry has made larger proportions to meet the growing demand. The industry thrives off of
competition, and is constantly trying to one up each other. Places like Wendy s, Burger King,
McDonald s, and Taco Bell provide large amounts of food for a bargain. The creation of dollar
menus and five dollar meal deals has influenced more people to dine out. According to University
Hospitals, 44% of Americans eat out at least once a week, every day 34% of children consume fast
food, and children get 12% of their calories from fast food (North Ohio Heart). Fast food is
taking over people s diets. The 2004 Documentary Super Size Me talks about the truth behind the

In American society, the common stereotype is that the father has the role of the dominant figure
in the household. Sylvia Plath and Sharon Olds may come across as two seemingly different
poets, however, they are really quite similar, especially in their driving forces behind their writing
styles in poetry. The lives of Plath and Olds are both expressive of the realities of a father
dominated family, in which both of these poets lost their fathers at a young age. This is significant
because both poets have faced a similar traumatic event that has had everlasting effects on their
adult womanhood, which is reflected in their writings. For both these woman, their accesses to

Both poems make allusions to Greek deities as a metaphor for the common perception that the
father is the dominant one in a family. The numerous attempts of the speaker s infatuation with The
Colossus with restoring the fallen statue and Olds comparison of alcoholism to the Greek deity,
Saturn both vividly symbolize that a father s decisions whether its life or in death, has its
consequences. In, addition it is for a young girl growing up to have a father figure in their lives
and how the absence of a father figure can impact a young woman s life tremendously.
Plath touches upon the highs and struggles of her life growing up, such as the tragic loss of her
father, which is reflected within her work. Sylvia was confused and angry about her father s
death. Plath expresses her hate for why her father is gone, hence why she became depressed and
mentally ill because deep down inside she felt like she could ve prevented his death. Plath always
felt like a victim to the male dominated society, especially when it came down to her father. In
The Colossus , the speaker tries in vain to piece fallen Colossus of Rhodes back together and to
make it speak to her. This depicts her broken relationship with her father for which she was trying
to piece back together as well. The Colossus was extremely tall statue of the Greek figure Helios.

Profit
1.At least Germany was honest in their reasoning with keeping Nefertiti s bust. Countries like
Germany and Great Britain have no right in continuing making profit off of other countries stolen
treasure. They should return its stolen artifacts, and instead, thank the countries for being able to
have made money off of what was not rightfully theirs to begin with. Basically, these countries not
only stole artifacts, but large amounts of money that should have been made by the artifacts
countries themselves.
III. Conclusion
A.Review/Clincher.
1.Cultural treasures should be displayed in the context in which they originated; only then can they

Personal Eassy On Cross Country
One activity that has helped me grow a tremendous amount over the past four years has been my
involvement with cross country and track. Running and competing on a team has helped me grow
in confidence and as a leader. It has taught me the value hard work and discipline. It has taught me
how to embrace challenges, and, above all, it has taught me how to learn and grow from past
failures.
Cross country is a sport that is won or lost inside your head. Obviously it takes physical fitness, but
even more than that it takes mental strength. I love running, and, for the most part, I have found
success and satisfaction in my high school career; however, I have also had my share of
disappointments and regrets. Weather it was just a bad race or a heartbreaking

The Modern Culture Of Chippewa Today
Though Native Americans are today seen as regular members of society and treated as such, and
even are given certain special treatments (such as federally recognized tribes being seen as
domestic dependant nations and allowing for them to have their own set of laws), there can be
no argument when it is said that, in the past, they were treated terribly. In fact, when European
settlers came, their clash with the natives resulted in mass genocide. The Chippewa lived mainly
in the American midwest (including Michigan) and in Ontario, a Canadian province. I use the
term lived here because, despite the Chippewa being alive and well, they are more spread out
now due to the advantages of modern technology. The modern culture of Chippewa today is
vastly different from original Chippewa, as well (Friedl, pgs 814 815). Food for them could
range from rabbit or deer or even bears (Copway, George, Hulan, Shelley, pgs 26 and 28) to corn
and wild rice (Friedl, pg 816). According to Friedl s data, Chippewas generally expect their
circumstances to be constantly changing. For example, indigenous Chippewas left a lot of
things to chance. As stated previously, they planted corn, but they did not tend to it (Friedl, pg
816). They collected wild rice when it was available, as well as nuts and berries when they were
in season. They also heavily relied on dreams to lead them in the right direction (Friedl, 816). If
they dreamed they would prosper elsewhere, they would leave. If they dreamed of

The Pros And Cons Of Industrial Animal Agriculture
What if I told you, what you choose to put on your plate has the ability to help save our home,
the earth, would you believe me? We assume we don t have the power to stop the terrible things
that seem to be happening in our world more and more lately, but the truth is that it is actually
all in our hands. It all depends on what we choose to do or do not do that make all the difference.
We are the problem, the ones who put the earth in the situation it is in now, however we could
also be the solution and fix it, if and only if we come together and understand the reality of the
problem we are in. So what does this have to do with what we choose to put on our plate you ask?
Well unless you are a vegan or a vegetation, the animal you choose to consume is playing an
enormous role in climate change, deforestation, species... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only will I address how raising animals for ourselves affects the environment, but as well as
on how we can change this selfish mind set we seem to have to think it is acceptable to take and
take from this world without having any sort of remorse or even giving back. By the end of this
paper I am going to have you questioning whether we still live on a planet, because more and more
information we receive on the truths of industrial animal agriculture it seems as if instead we live
on a gigantic farm, occasionally broken up by cities, forests and oceans. Let s start with the basics,
what exactly is industrial animal agriculture; Industrial animal agriculture is a modern system of
intensive farming that uses intensive production lines and its goals are to produce the highest
output at the lowest cost, always at the animals expense, not understanding that although they are
paying a low cost to produce meat, they are paying a very very high cost in destruction of the
planet. The giant corporations that run most factory farms have found that they can make more
money by packing as many animals as possible into small spaces, which results

Grey Wolf
Out hunting their human counterparts and scaring passerby, the grey wolf has long been
considered a menace. As a predator, many people refuse to view them as a creature to be protected
and in an attempt to reduce their population, Congress declared open season on their species,
leading their almost being hunted nearly to extinction. At their lowest point, they numbered in at
about 1,400 (Center for Biological Diversity); a fraction of their earliest numbers. As an endangered
speciesthere are a few programs put in place whose purpose is to maintain/swell the numbers of
Canis Lupus in their old regions (Iowa, Wisconsin, and Utah). These programs included the Center

Once again Yellowstone harbors all native species of large carnivores grizzly and black bears,
mountain lions, and wolves. Before wolf reintroduction, there was a concerted effort to predict
the ecological effects of wolves in Yellowstone (Cook 1993). Has reality, so far, met expectations?
The effects of Canis lupus on the ecology of Yellowstone can be seen at all levels. By lowering the
deer and elk population, grey wolves have in turn allowed the park to resume normal
functionality with the addition of new species. There are reports that after the population runs out
of prey, well rather outpaces the predator prey ratio, Canis Lupus presence will once again be a
threat to the park. With that being said, their prey s repopulation has inundated the wolves forward
progress, thus slowing town that possibility. By all means, Canis Lupus can be considered a hero.
By restoring the balance in the park, Canis Lupus presence can ensure stability and preserve the
natural beauty of the park for generations to

The Handmaid s Tale By Offred
The Handmaid s Tale is similar and relatable to Gender equity/inequity because this book talks
about how Men and women aren t equal. Males tend to have more power over females. The
women are referred to Handmaid s which are also known to take care and breed children. They
aren t allowed to read or write. This honestly is a problem towards society. These women have no
hope to stick up for themselves because they get executed if they try to get free from a place run
by Men.
The Handmaid s Tale is such an interesting book with a closely realistic concept of society.
Everything that happened in the book most likely happened one way or another, some of these
events were down in history. It s one of the things that shocked me throughout this book. Women...

Women are expected to bear children and remain devoted to their husbands. They are also

For example in the book when Offred says Women kneeling, sucking penises or guns, women

On the morning of August 29, 2005 was one of the deadliest hurricanes in the United States, known
as Hurricane Katrina struck the south coast of New Orleans, leaving thousands of African American
whom lived in Treme homeless, missing and hundreds dead. Way before the hurricane Treme,

think like that, people who want Treme transformed, could go anywhere and dismantle what was
there and build what they wanted. For outsiders, the most important thing here is the building.
For us, it is our culture, for us, that is, what we consider community, not the buildings (Barrios,

Importance Of Self Driving Cars
One reason we should have self driving cars is because they are a lot safer than regular cars.
According to a Business Insider article, Driverless cars are designed to have almost a
superhuman like ability to recognize the world around them. This shows that they are a lot safer
than regular cars because it says they have a superhuman ability This is way better than just a
regular driver. The way these cars work is by having cameras on all sides, so this ability is a
reference to the cars getting all that information from the cameras at once. A regular driver can

Let s say that we theoretically took all teenage drivers off the road and put them in self driving
cars. These are America s newest drivers with the least experience on the road, so think about how
many less accidents there would be. If this is what self driving cars could do in Phoenix, think
about what they could do all over the rest of the world.
Another reason we should have self driving cars is because they are better for the environment.
In an article by Business Insider, Cadie Thompson says Because cars will be automated, there
will be less chance of accidents caused by human error, leading to less traffic congestion. This
would be good for the environment because less traffic means cars spend less time on the road.
Some people get stuck in traffic for hours at a time, which means their car is producing a lot of
CO2 (Carbon Dioxide), and that is very bad for the environment. Less of these traffic jams
would mean that cars would produce a lot less CO2. Imagine that you are driving to work and
get stuck in a traffic jam. You could go through almost a whole tank of gas just waiting to get
through it! But then, you get to the front just to realize that a bad driver ran into the median and
totaled his car. You just released a lot of CO2 into the air because someone crashed their car. And
you don t want to have to do that, do you? Self driving cars would not make these mistakes, you
would spend less time in traffic, leading to less CO2 emissions. Another reason

The substantia nigra is a subcortical nucleus that is closely related to basal ganglia. It is reciprocally
connected with the striatum and sends efferents to the ventral anterior and dorsomedial thalamic
nuclei and, to some extent, to the ventral lateral thalamic nuclei. The substantia nigra pars reticulata
also projects to the superior colliculus. Neurons that originate in the striatum and project to the

age of the customer; the age of SHLD shoppers needs to be addressed so that SHLD can
effectively market towards a target market that shows interest in their organization. Over 40% of
the survey recipients were between the ages of 30 48. While 32% of survey recipients were
under 30 years old. These results show that the majority of SHLD s customers are older, yet a
younger crowd still shows an interest. The next part of the survey that needs to be analyzed is the
question pertaining to prices. Only 5% of the survey recipients thought that SHLD offered low
prices. This leaves me to believe that even though the majority of the customers think that SHLD
do not have low prices, they are loyal to the brand. However, lowering prices in some way, shape,

After being asked whether or not SHLD offered low prices, survey recipients were then asked to

Kurt Lewin presents his three phase model for managing change. Three stages are unfreezing,

In first stage the need of change is realized. This stage focused that we lived in a dynamic

and a sense of urgency is created among the team members. It states that as early as we adopt the

1.Evaluate the effectiveness of using ICT to support teaching and learning.
Information communication technology (ICT) helps to learn theoretic development discoveries,
treatment and support techniques for education and curriculum. It gives teachers, higher level
teaching assistant (HLTA) and children access to educational resources from around the globe
anytime and day. While using ICT, children learn concepts, history, ideas, theories and practices

why they are using ICT and incorporate the concepts in: social responsibility, creativity,
communication, culture sensitivity, decision making technology application and usage. According
to Andrews et al. (2006, p.5) ICT has been defined as including stand alone computers, networked

Titanium Cerium Ferrite ( Tcf ) Was Prepared By A Simple...
Abstract Titanium cerium ferrite (TCF) was prepared by a simple solvothermal method. The
obtained TCF was applied as magnetic adsorbent for the extraction of uranium ions from aqueous
solutions. The synthesized magnetic nanoadsorbent was characterized using FT IR, XRD, Raman,
BET surface area, VSM and TEM. Various parameters such as solution pH, initial concentration,
sorbent dosage and rate of adsorptionwere investigated using batch adsorption experiments. The
optimum pH was found to be 6.0 and the equilibrium was achieved in approximately 120 min.
Kinetic studies indicated that pseudo second order kinetic model best describes the adsorption
behavior. The adsorption isotherms were well fitted by Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the
maximum adsorption capacity was evaluated to be 555.555 mg/g at 55 вЃ°C. The thermodynamic
parameters calculated from the adsorption data suggested that the adsorption of U (VI) onto TCF
was a spontaneous and endothermic nature of process. The highest values of uranium desorption
was achieved using 0.1 M HNO3 as the desorbing agent. The results indicate that TCF has potential
as an adsorbent for sorption U (VI), using a simple, fast separation method for removal of uranium

The Pros And Cons Of Tariffs
United States of America, being one of the largest economies for importing steel, is imposing
taxes of around 256% on china. It is found out that china has been accused of dumping and
therefore it is selling its steel at a lower price. US is imposing taxes at other countries too, such as
India, south Korea and Italy. The domestic producers, are suffering because the imports have been
rising, as stated in the article Imports of all steel products through October rose 3.9 percent in 2015
, and the quantity demanded of the domestic goods are reducing as the price levels are not
matching, and hence the tariffs are imposed.
Tariffis a form of trade protectionism, which is applied when there is free trade between the
countries, and the domestic consumption of good produced by the domestic producer is less.
Hence, Tariff basically is a tax levied on imported goods. The US govt is imposing tariffs on china
and few other customers in order to protect the domestic economy.

Determine the height. Start by determining how tall your fence will need to be. If you need to
keep out rabbits and small animals, 2 feet should suffice. If you need to keep out larger animals, 4
feet should suffice. Whatever height you choose, this will be how tall your PVC pipes will be.
2.Clamp and saw. Using the vise, clamp your PVC pipe into place and cut it with the hacksaw.
Remember to use the measurements above as a reference.
3.Sand the ends. When all PVC pipes are cut to desired length, sand them with sandpaper until
smooth.
4.Apply the glue. Brush the ends of the PVC pipe with a thin layer of glue. Also apply the glue to
the PVC elbow joints.
5.Connect the pipes. Carefully insert the sanded and glued pipes into the elbow joints.
6.Remove excess glue. If any glue oozes out of the joints, wipe it away with a clean paper towel.
7.Let dry. Let the glue dry completely. This may take anywhere from 1 hour to 12 hours, depending
on how much glue was

Freedom of Speech vs. Censorship on the Internet
Freedom of Speech Vs. Censorship:
Children on the Internet
The internet is a very controversial communication device in today s society. If desired, one
could find information on nearly any topic they choose. Censorship and free speech is a widely
discussed topic when dealing with the current freedom of the internet especially when dealing
with young minds. Should the internet have censored topics which would be illegal to post and
/or view freely by children? Should the internet be a free for all arena in which anyone could do
as they wish without judgment of others opinions and views imposing on their own? So far in
class and in the text Gift of Fire by Sara Baase we have seen many issues dealing with Freedom of
Speech and the internet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this and the international span of the internet, it is hard for the FCC to be an overseer
of the medium. Certain controversial laws have attempted to set in place regulations that censor
ethically and socially dubious materials from publication on the web. The topic that has been at the
forefront of debate deals with obscene materials. This is a heated topic because the definition of
obscenity is very vague and subject to interpretation. What is considered to be obscene can be
viewed very differently depending on ones personal morals, beliefs, and values. For example, a
parent who is highly religious and living in the United States may view nudity on cable television
as obscene and pornographic for their child to view, while a person with the same religious beliefs
living in Europe or another part of the world may just view this as art or entertainment. This is due
to the difference in societal views on obscenity.
To get to the root of what is considered obscene, a test for judging obscene material was set in the
case of Miller v. California. This modern test for obscenity consists of three parts: (1) the
proscribed material must depict or describe sexual conduct in a patently offensive way, (2) the
conduct must be specifically described in the law, and (3) the work must,

Memory Patterns In The Hunger Games
Understanding how memory, patterns, and symbols all work together in literary works will
help you to better appreciate what you are reading. Memory helps us to link one story to
another, letting us have a better connection to characters and events, since we ve already seen
characters and events that are, in some aspects, similar. Symbols let us better understand what
the real theme is; is The Lord of the Flies really only about a bunch of stranded boys who starts
to killing each other, while a pig s head watches? No, understanding that each of the boys(and the
pig s head) represent a symbol helps you get to the message the author is trying to tell you.
Patterns helps us figure out which details are important and which are not so much important, so
we re not as bogged down with every detail of a story instead of the story itself... Show more

The first book that comes to mind when reading these aspects is the wildly popular The Hunger
Games. In The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen(the questor) goes outside her home of District
12, eventually to the arena(destination,) so her younger sister won t have to go fight in the games
instead(stated reason to go.) Katniss faces many, many challenges, mostly people trying to kill
her(challenges,)but what she really faces is the realization that she does have a choice, that she
doesn t have to be a game

Hypertext and Literary Study Essay
Hypertext and Literary Study
Hypertextual fiction (hyperfiction) and other hypertext applications are making their way into the
literature courses where, Professor Larry Friedlander says, learning has basically meant the study
of texts, in the form of the printed word (257). And these newer works, inseparable from their
contemporary technologies, offer the possibility of a very different type of literary study than the
one most English majors experience in traditional literature courses. Print and book technology
perpetuate and validate linear experience, thought, and narratives, which buttresses a hierarchical
educational structure that shapes the roles of writers, readers, teachers, and students. Challenging
our trust in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I. Fixed in Print: Our Inheritances from the Renaissance
As readers and as scholars many of us tend not to identify the organizational layout of print books as
evidence of socially valued formats regarding the proper forms of narrative, thought, and conveying
meaning. To many modern readers print technology is just the natural form for narrative
entertainment or study. Although printed texts just seem natural, they reinforce concepts of
stability, finality, authority, and even immortality. The pursuit of a final authoritative, authentic text
not unrelated to the final draft students submit in literature courses is an endeavor of great
historical significance, especially in terms of literary history. It was establishing the original text
that the Renaissance scholars thought their main task ..., notes Richard Lanham, The aim of all
this was to fix the text forever (quoted in Slatin 155). One of the icons of the English literary
canon, Shakespeare himself went so far as to praise the immortality of print in his famous sonnet
sequence. Many of his sonnets like 19, 55, and 60 contain references to the lasting quality of art;
however, the poet is not simply praising the virtues of poetry, but also of

The Controversy Genre Of Country Music
The work of music which has both unsettled and challenged my conventional views on music has
been the development of an offshoot genre of country music. It has been an extremely
controversial genre, and its development has been intriguing to follow. This new type of music,
often defined as bro country, has challenged both myself and traditional music values, and while I
cannot say that I certainly enjoy this type of music, it has certainly received incredible feedback.
Country music as a whole is a controversial genre; however, the past 5 years of its development
have seen the integration of drum machines, rock style guitar melodies, and the addition of a wide
variety of computer synthesizers and algorithmic composition. Both old and new

Morgan Spurlock s Arguments In Super Size Me
1. What is the filmmaker s main argument?
Morgan Spurlock s argument in Super Size Me is that eating McDonald s everyday is bad and
hazardous for people and their health. However, even though Spurlock specifically focuses on
McDonald s because he is eating his daily meals from there, he points out not just that fast food
chain, but other fast food chains and even the meals served in school cafeterias. A more broad
thesis that is not entirely stated outward in the film would be that eating a lot of food that is
unhealthy for people everyday contributes to obesity, but specifically, Spurlock is focusing on the
fast food chains.
2. Are there any minor arguments?
Although not stated outward until the very end of the documentary, a minor argument concerns
whether or not the fast food companies and chains should be responsible for the obesity it causes
for its clientele. As informed to the audience, there have been multiple cases filed by numerous
different people, suing these chains, a specific example being the ever popular McDonald s, for their
weight gain and health issues.
3. How does he support his argument? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Easily the most obvious way is that Spurlock uses himself as the tester and has his progress
documented on camera through all 30 days. He even goes to doctors, where even his
appointments and weigh ins are captured on film, and informs them of his plans, where they
agree to go along and check up on his progress. Morgan Spurlock doesn t just use his own work
either; he does research on other cases, research and statistics, or facts concerning the dangers of
constantly eating fast food. Both people who have experience either obesity, medical concerns
concerning obesity, or who devote a good percentage of their work and research for their places
such as the government appear within the documentary to help back him

The Terrorist Attack On The World Trade Center
The two terrorist attacks that I will examine are the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center
that took place on February 26, 1993 and The Boston Marathon Bombing took place on April 15.
2013. I will also be providing an overview of the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center and the
Boston Marathon Bombing. I will explain the lessons learned from each attack in my own opinion.
I will also describe what protective measures were taken during the attacks to prevent further
casualties and injuries.
The attack on The World Trade Centertook place at approximately noon on February 26, 1993.

Trade Center in Manhattan, New York. Inside the van... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
station and the power. The explosion created large amount debris that pinned people between
rubble. The blast was strong enough to destroy the use of the World Trade Center back up power
supply. The ventilation system in the building was filled with smoke and filled each floor with
smoke.
During the investigation law enforcement found pieces of the vehicle that was used to blow up
The World Trade Center and was able to track it back to the rental company that the men rented it
from. One of the men involved Mohammed Salameh returned to the vehicle rental location and
asked for his refund and then was arrested. The investigators were able to locate the suspect s
apartments, storage unit and the other suspects involved in the explosion. The men involved in the
explosion were arrested, brought back to the United States and sent to prison.
The Boston Marathon Bombing took place on April 15. 2013 close to the finish line of a
marathon that was taking place. The individual responsible for the terrorist attack were two
brothers by the names of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The two brothers created
bombs from nails and other items in a pressure cooker which they learned to make from an online
website. The Tsarnaev brothers placed the pressure cooker in backpacks. The two back packs with
the pressure cookers were placed in the crowed near the finish line and went off around the same
time as the runners were passing the finish

1. UNDERSTAND WHAT DATA NEEDS TO BE COLLECTED TO SUPPORT HR PRACTICES
1.1WHY AN ORGANISATION NEEDS TO COLLECT AND RECORD HR DATA
The idea of this assignment is to talk about the importance of managing data in any business
activity, but specifically the one which is of most interest to us is related to HR practices: how to
act when we manage data, how to collect this information and how to store the documents.
One of the reasons why an organisation needs to collect and record HR data is to drive future
business decisions within a company. Everything is based on the data and directly affects the
company s strategy and the company s needs.
Another reason to collect and record data is to comply with legal requirements and legislation, for
example the principle of equality. If we have in our HR department adequate personnel records, we
can make sure we are complying with the law and therefore

  • 2. Marina Abramovic Research Paper Marina Abramovic and Ulay is often called the grandmother of performance art In 2005(?), after parting ways with Ulay both romantically and artistically, Marina Abramovic started a new group of work Seven Easy Piece. In this work she mostly reenacted performances both hers and other artists (Marina Abramovic, Kristine Stiles, Klaus Biesenbach, Chrissie Iles). This decision shows Abramovic desire to find herself a new voice by using those of others. Contrary to her past work she is not the creator but the actor in those performances. The choice to reanact her piece Thomas Lips whom she created before meeting Ulay is particularly interesting as it express the desire to trace back who she was before her heavily emotional collaboration. Abramovic and Ulay s time together had indeed been They were born on the same day (November 30th) and thus felt as if they had just found a long lost sibling. This decision shows the artist was ready not only to pass on the baton to a new generation of performance artists but also of creating a final distance between the personal aspect of her relationship with Ulay and the work they created as a pair. By having the work performed by someone else the personal story in which it was created disappears to make way for a more literal interpretation of the piece. • 4. Male homoeroticism in Plato s Symposium and the Greek... Male homoeroticism in Plato s Symposium and the Greek lyric poets: Complimentary or contradictory? Works Cited Missing Images of male homosocial and homoerotic relations pervade Athenian culture. From plays to poetry and jugs to the justice system one can find these relations represented pictorially and in words. But do all these images align with each other or are there irreconcilable differences between them? To look at this question we will take two small pieces of culture, a philosophical treatise, Plato s Symposium and the lyric poetry of Theognis and Anacreon. Homoerotics are mentioned in several speeches in Plato s Symposium but I will focus on those statements made by Phaedras and Pausanias. The reason for the use of these ... The erastes feels betrayed and regretful that this boy he cares for appears headed for dangerous risks implying htta he expects honorable behavior. But this is not the end of Phaedras? praise for homoerotic relations. Phaedras continues on and speaks of the things that Love can inspire men to. Though he does not confine these benefits to homosocial interactions, he does specifically include them. After stating that older men are more prone to die than be humiliated in the sight of their eromenos, he goes on to say that, ??as for abandoning his boyfriend or not helping him when danger threatens ? well, possession by love would infuse even utter cowards with courage. ? Moreover, only lovers are prepared to sacrifice themselves ? and this goes for women as well as men.? (Phaedras, 179a) Phaedras claims, similarly to modern poets that love will drive one to the brink or even over the edge of death. It is hardly surprising, then, to find a similar image again in the poetry of Theognis, ?Boy, as long as your cheek is smooth, I?ll never / stop praising you, not even if I have to die.? The beauty of these artist works often overshadows the historic context that funded, supplied, inspired this art and design movement. The transformation art and design in Brussels during this time was a product of imperialism and genocide sanctioned by King Leopold II of Belgium, through the exploitation and appropriation Congolese culture and raw materials. • 11. Conquest And The Conquest Of Land Conquest is one simple little word with tremendously rich background and history. Conquest in short is defined to gain a victory over. Conquest has lead to the beginnings of new lands and has created the end of an old. Many different interactions between groups of people and their lands have occurred throughout history that ultimately lead into the conquest of land. First and foremost before interactions occurred there was reasoning behind conquests. The root of conquest can be narrowed down into three categories. These categories are God, glory, and gold. Religions that are big on conversion looked upon conquest as an opportunity to gain more believers, therefore pleasing their god more. Glory was as simple as glory for the homeland to claim increased land. Lastly, just like today humans wanted riches. Striking gold meant just that, becoming rich. Along with each conquest brought upon many different interactions and consequences from those interactions. These interactions are what set up the foundation of nations relationships. Starting with the background of conquest before the two types of interactions. The Spanish main religion in the fifteenth to sixteenth centuries was Catholic. As members of the Catholic faith, the Spanish felt as though it was there right to explore new lands as long as that meant converting the natives from their previous religious views to the beliefs of Catholicism. This attribute is extremely hard to achieve and requires sacrifices. For Huck to find a home or a place he is comfortable with he needs to have the feeling that he is surrounded by characters of reliance and assurance. Huck Finn has a highly different perspective of the world opposed to the people who surround him. Most importantly, Huck struggles heavily on determining the difference between right and wrong because of the people around him that influence him. He makes his decisions based upon past experiences dictated by trust. Mark Twain makes the choice of a social satire because having Huck tell the story allows the reader to see and understand how a child interprets what happens around him. The reader can then view Hucks thought process and grasp what he is feeling. For example, while being around his father, Huck does not feel safe therefore he runs away. Throughout the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck comes across multiple families and people, yet he never experiences a truly comfortable feeling among any family due his conscience constantly fighting with his white southern instincts. Moreover, Huck begins his story being constantly harassed by his drunk father. His father is consistently looked upon by the town as a failure and a disgrace to the south. He studies the social structure, the religious practices, the political system, and other aspects of this village s culture. In his ethnography, Pierce expounds on the societal segregation of the men and women and its translation into social class. While the separation of both genders is prominent in the societal practices, it is also reflected in their native tongue. In the Turkish language, Pierce notes, Men and women are labeled differently for relatives older than ego, but not for those younger (Pierce 81). Ego s uncles of his father s lineage are referred to as amca and Ego s aunts of his father s lineage are referred to as hala. Ego s uncles of his mother s lineage are called dayz, while aunt s on his mother s side are called teyze (Pierce 80). Because these kin terms individually identify the male and female members of the family readers gain insight into the citizens perspective and can comprehend their view on the social status of men and women. This kinship terminology also illustrates that social status is defined by not only sex, but age as well. While males and females have different kin terms, this only applies to members of an older generation. The gender of young children is not specified in the Turkish language; there is one term used to identify young children: kardes. • 14. Black Americans And The Black Freedom Struggle Many have thought that the end of the civil war was also the end of the suppression against Black Americans. However, real freedom hasn t been present to them. Discriminations against Black Americans were transformed and still exist in other aspects. The life of a Black American was planned before he or she was born, not much freedom in their hands. Black American experience disadvantage and discrimination in many different institutions that all prove the existence of Neocolonialism. From housing to education, formal and informal social controls prevented them from equality and freedom. Moreover, Black youth was forced to be in the pipeline of incarceration from school, because of the lack of resources and attention to them. In this ongoing fight for Black Freedom, many influential Black leaders stepped up. One of them is one of the most important figures in the Black freedom struggle history, Ella Baker. This essay will first, explain key issues on Black Americans freedom in housing and school to prison pipeline, then identify Ella Baker s theory in the Black Freedom Struggle, and finally define what freedom means. It s the American dream to own a house with beautiful white fences and yard and live joyfully with families, but not many Black Americans can live up to that dream. An example of one of the schools in the state is Le Conte Elementary School, which not only has flowers and vegetables, but also livestock, like goats and chickens. Running and competing on a team has helped me grow in confidence and as a leader. It has taught me the value hard work and discipline. It has taught me how to embrace challenges, and, above all, it has taught me how to learn and grow from past failures. Cross country is a sport that is won or lost inside your head. The Modern Culture Of Chippewa Today Though Native Americans are today seen as regular members of society and treated as such, and even are given certain special treatments (such as federally recognized tribes being seen as domestic dependant nations and allowing for them to have their own set of laws), there can be no argument when it is said that, in the past, they were treated terribly. In fact, when European settlers came, their clash with the natives resulted in mass genocide. The Chippewa lived mainly in the American midwest (including Michigan) and in Ontario, a Canadian province. I use the term lived here because, despite the Chippewa being alive and well, they are more spread out now due to the advantages of modern technology. The modern culture of Chippewa today is vastly different from original Chippewa, as well (Friedl, pgs 814 815). Food for them could range from rabbit or deer or even bears (Copway, George, Hulan, Shelley, pgs 26 and 28) to corn and wild rice (Friedl, pg 816). According to Friedl s data, Chippewas generally expect their circumstances to be constantly changing. For example, indigenous Chippewas left a lot of things to chance. As stated previously, they planted corn, but they did not tend to it (Friedl, pg 816). They collected wild rice when it was available, as well as nuts and berries when they were in season. They also heavily relied on dreams to lead them in the right direction (Friedl, 816). If they dreamed they would prosper elsewhere, they would leave. If they dreamed of ... The obtained TCF was applied as magnetic adsorbent for the extraction of uranium ions from aqueous solutions. The synthesized magnetic nanoadsorbent was characterized using FT IR, XRD, Raman, BET surface area, VSM and TEM. Various parameters such as solution pH, initial concentration, sorbent dosage and rate of adsorptionwere investigated using batch adsorption experiments. The optimum pH was found to be 6.0 and the equilibrium was achieved in approximately 120 min. Kinetic studies indicated that pseudo second order kinetic model best describes the adsorption behavior. The adsorption isotherms were well fitted by Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacity was evaluated to be 555.555 mg/g at 55 вЃ°C. The thermodynamic parameters calculated from the adsorption data suggested that the adsorption of U (VI) onto TCF was a spontaneous and endothermic nature of process. • 41. Freedom of Speech vs. Censorship on the Internet Freedom of Speech Vs. Censorship: Children on the Internet The internet is a very controversial communication device in today s society. If desired, one could find information on nearly any topic they choose. Censorship and free speech is a widely discussed topic when dealing with the current freedom of the internet especially when dealing with young minds. Should the internet have censored topics which would be illegal to post and /or view freely by children? Should the internet be a free for all arena in which anyone could do as they wish without judgment of others opinions and views imposing on their own? So far in class and in the text Gift of Fire by Sara Baase we have seen many issues dealing with Freedom of Speech and the internet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of this and the international span of the internet, it is hard for the FCC to be an overseer of the medium. Certain controversial laws have attempted to set in place regulations that censor ethically and socially dubious materials from publication on the web. The topic that has been at the forefront of debate deals with obscene materials. This is a heated topic because the definition of obscenity is very vague and subject to interpretation. What is considered to be obscene can be viewed very differently depending on ones personal morals, beliefs, and values. For example, a parent who is highly religious and living in the United States may view nudity on cable television as obscene and pornographic for their child to view, while a person with the same religious beliefs living in Europe or another part of the world may just view this as art or entertainment. This is due to the difference in societal views on obscenity. To get to the root of what is considered obscene, a test for judging obscene material was set in the case of Miller v. California. This modern test for obscenity consists of three parts: (1) the proscribed material must depict or describe sexual conduct in a patently offensive way, (2) the conduct must be specifically described in the law, and (3) the work must, ... • 42. Memory Patterns In The Hunger Games Understanding how memory, patterns, and symbols all work together in literary works will help you to better appreciate what you are reading. Memory helps us to link one story to another, letting us have a better connection to characters and events, since we ve already seen characters and events that are, in some aspects, similar. Symbols let us better understand what the real theme is; is The Lord of the Flies really only about a bunch of stranded boys who starts to killing each other, while a pig s head watches? No, understanding that each of the boys(and the pig s head) represent a symbol helps you get to the message the author is trying to tell you. Patterns helps us figure out which details are important and which are not so much important, so we re not as bogged down with every detail of a story instead of the story itself... Hypertext and Literary Study Essay Hypertext and Literary Study Hypertextual fiction (hyperfiction) and other hypertext applications are making their way into the literature courses where, Professor Larry Friedlander says, learning has basically meant the study of texts, in the form of the printed word (257). And these newer works, inseparable from their contemporary technologies, offer the possibility of a very different type of literary study than the one most English majors experience in traditional literature courses. Print and book technology perpetuate and validate linear experience, thought, and narratives, which buttresses a hierarchical educational structure that shapes the roles of writers, readers, teachers, and students. Challenging our trust in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I. Fixed in Print: Our Inheritances from the Renaissance As readers and as scholars many of us tend not to identify the organizational layout of print books as evidence of socially valued formats regarding the proper forms of narrative, thought, and conveying meaning. To many modern readers print technology is just the natural form for narrative entertainment or study. Although printed texts just seem natural, they reinforce concepts of stability, finality, authority, and even immortality. The pursuit of a final authoritative, authentic text not unrelated to the final draft students submit in literature courses is an endeavor of great historical significance, especially in terms of literary history. It was establishing the original text that the Renaissance scholars thought their main task ..., notes Richard Lanham, The aim of all this was to fix the text forever (quoted in Slatin 155). One of the icons of the English literary canon, Shakespeare himself went so far as to praise the immortality of print in his famous sonnet sequence. Many of his sonnets like 19, 55, and 60 contain references to the lasting quality of art; however, the poet is not simply praising the virtues of poetry, but also of ... It has been an extremely controversial genre, and its development has been intriguing to follow. This new type of music, often defined as bro country, has challenged both myself and traditional music values, and while I cannot say that I certainly enjoy this type of music, it has certainly received incredible feedback. Country music as a whole is a controversial genre; however, the past 5 years of its development have seen the integration of drum machines, rock style guitar melodies, and the addition of a wide variety of computer synthesizers and algorithmic composition. • 45. Morgan Spurlock s Arguments In Super Size Me 1. What is the filmmaker s main argument? Morgan Spurlock s argument in Super Size Me is that eating McDonald s everyday is bad and hazardous for people and their health. However, even though Spurlock specifically focuses on McDonald s because he is eating his daily meals from there, he points out not just that fast food chain, but other fast food chains and even the meals served in school cafeterias. A more broad thesis that is not entirely stated outward in the film would be that eating a lot of food that is unhealthy for people everyday contributes to obesity, but specifically, Spurlock is focusing on the fast food chains. 2. Are there any minor arguments? Although not stated outward until the very end of the documentary, a minor argument concerns whether or not the fast food companies and chains should be responsible for the obesity it causes for its clientele. As informed to the audience, there have been multiple cases filed by numerous different people, suing these chains, a specific example being the ever popular McDonald s, for their weight gain and health issues. 3. How does he support his argument? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He even goes to doctors, where even his appointments and weigh ins are captured on film, and informs them of his plans, where they agree to go along and check up on his progress. Morgan Spurlock doesn t just use his own work either; he does research on other cases, research and statistics, or facts concerning the dangers of constantly eating fast food. Both people who have experience either obesity, medical concerns concerning obesity, or who devote a good percentage of their work and research for their places such as the government appear within the documentary to help back him ...
