English Grammar-Tense
Tense is the form of a verb that takes
to show the time it happened.
Or
Tense is the forms of a verb which
show the time at which an action
happened:

1. Past Indefinite/simple Tense
2. Past Continuous Tense
3. Past Perfect Tense
4. Past Perfect Continuous Tense
English Grammar-Tense
There are three main tenses
1. Past tense: things that were
true before the words were
spoken or written.
2. Present tense: things that are
true when the words are spoken
or written.
3. Future tense: things that will be
true after the words are spoken
or written.
Past Tense
Past tense
Structure: Subject + Verb(Past Form)+Object.
Example:
1. I wrote a latter.
2. I ate rice.
3. They Played football.
4. She went to School.
5. He gave me a book.

Past simple/indefinite Tense
Structure: Subject+ verb (past form) +
object.
Example:
• I Went to school.
• They played football.
Note: Underline word is verb (past form). Only
past simple/indefinite tense consider past form of
verb.
Exercise:
We gave her a doll for her birthday.
My father died last year.
He lived in Fiji in 1976.
We crossed the Channel yesterday.
I often bought my lunch to school.
She wrote a letter.

Structure: Subject+ did not + verb
(present form) + object.
Example:
• I did not go to school.
• They did not play football.
Exercise:
We did not give her a doll for her
birthday.
My father did not die last year.
He did not live in Fiji in 1976.
We did not cross the Channel
yesterday.
I often did not buy my lunch to school.
She did not write a letter.

Structure: Subject+ be verb (was/were) +
verb (present form)+ Ing+ object.
Example:
• I was going to school.
• They were playing football.
• He was taking a picture of you.
Note: ing form always become with present form
of Verb.
Exercise:
1. Karim is swimming.
2. She is reading a book.
3. Rani is writing a latter.
4. Student’s are cleaning the school yard.
5. Flower’s are blooming.

Structure: Subject+ be verb (was/were) +
Not+ verb (present form)+ Ing+ object.
Example:
• I was not going to school.
• They were not playing football.
• He was not taking a picture of you.
Exercise:

3. Rani is not writing a latter.
4. Student’s are not cleaning the school

Exercise:
She had met him before the party.
The plane had left by the time I got to the
airport.
I had written the email before he
apologized.
She had established her company before
2008.
I had fallen asleep before eight o'clock.

participle form)+ object.
Example:
• I had not gone to school.
• They had not played football.
• He had not took a picture of you.
Exercise:
She had not met him before the party.
The plane had not left by the time I got to

I had not written the email before he

She had not established her company
before 2008.

for more than a year.

Example:
• I had not been going to school.

company for three years .
James had not been teaching at the
university for more than a year.

you had not been writting
He had not been speaking.

object.
Example:
• I go to school.
• They play football.
• He takes a picture of you.
Exercise:
The earth goes round the sun.
I work in a shop.
She drives a car.
I usually go away at weekends.
I get up at 6 o’clock at every morning.
He comes from Cumilla.

Example:
• I do not go to school.
• They do not play football.
• He does not take a picture of you.
Exercise:
The earth does not go around the sun.
I do not work in a shop.
She does not drives a car.
I usually do not go away at weekends.
I do not get up at 6 o’clock at every
morning.
He does not comes from Cumilla.

verb (present form)+ Ing+ object.
Example:
• I am going to school.
• They are playing football.
• He is taking a picture of you.
Exercise:
The water is boiling.
I am getting hungry.
They are speaking.
It is raining.
My father is teaching me.
She is writing a letter.

not+ verb (present form)+ Ing+ object.
Example:
• I am not going to school.
• They aren’t playing football.
• He isn’t taking a picture of you.
Exercise:
The water isn’t boiling.
I am not getting hungry.
They aren’t speaking.
It isn’t raining.
My father isn’t teaching me.
She isn’t writing a letter.

organization since 2008.
It has not been raining since morning.
They have not been cleaning the class
room for an hour.

Structure: Subject + shall/will + Verb (Present
Form)+Object.
Example:
1. I shall write a latter.
2. I will eat rice.
3. They will play football.
4. She will go to School.
5. He will give me a book.

Structure: Subject+ Shall/will+ verb
(present form) + object.
Example:
• I shall go to school.
• They will play football.
• He will take a picture of you.
Exercise:
We shall move to another city.
He will come to New York tomorrow.
They will make a phone which has artificial
intelligence.
I shall go to market.
They will do the work.

Example:
• I shall not go to school.
• They will not play football.

She will be watching TV when I come

Note: There is no practical use of this
tense.
Exercise:
They will have been living Paris.
She will have been walking.
It will have been raining.
You will have been using my
computer for five months.

Tense

  • 2. English Grammar-Tense Tense is the form of a verb that takes to show the time it happened. Or Tense is the forms of a verb which show the time at which an action happened:

  • 4. English Grammar-Tense There are three main tenses 1. Past tense: things that were true before the words were spoken or written. 2. Present tense: things that are true when the words are spoken or written. 3. Future tense: things that will be true after the words are spoken or written.
  • 6. Past tense Structure: Subject + Verb(Past Form)+Object. Example: 1. I wrote a latter. 2. I ate rice. 3. They Played football. 4. She went to School. 5. He gave me a book.
  • 7. English Grammar-Tense Past simple/indefinite Tense Structure: Subject+ verb (past form) + object. Example: • I Went to school. • They played football. Note: Underline word is verb (past form). Only past simple/indefinite tense consider past form of verb. Exercise: We gave her a doll for her birthday. My father died last year. He lived in Fiji in 1976. We crossed the Channel yesterday. I often bought my lunch to school. She wrote a letter.
  • 8. English Grammar-Tense Past simple/indefinite Tense (neg) Structure: Subject+ did not + verb (present form) + object. Example: • I did not go to school. • They did not play football. Exercise: We did not give her a doll for her birthday. My father did not die last year. He did not live in Fiji in 1976. We did not cross the Channel yesterday. I often did not buy my lunch to school. She did not write a letter.
  • 9. English Grammar-Tense Past Continuous Tense Structure: Subject+ be verb (was/were) + verb (present form)+ Ing+ object. Example: • I was going to school. • They were playing football. • He was taking a picture of you. Note: ing form always become with present form of Verb. Exercise: 1. Karim is swimming. 2. She is reading a book. 3. Rani is writing a latter. 4. Student’s are cleaning the school yard. 5. Flower’s are blooming.
  • 10. English Grammar-Tense Past Continuous Tense (neg) Structure: Subject+ be verb (was/were) + Not+ verb (present form)+ Ing+ object. Example: • I was not going to school. • They were not playing football. • He was not taking a picture of you. Exercise: 1. Karim is not swimming. 2. She is not reading a book. 3. Rani is not writing a latter. 4. Student’s are not cleaning the school yard. 5. Flower’s are not blooming.
  • 11. English Grammar-Tense Past Perfect Tense Structure: Subject+ had + verb (past participle form)+ object. Example: • I had gone to school. • They had played football. • He had took a picture of you. Exercise: She had met him before the party. The plane had left by the time I got to the airport. I had written the email before he apologized. She had established her company before 2008. I had fallen asleep before eight o'clock.
  • 12. English Grammar-Tense Past Perfect Tense (neg) Structure: Subject+ had +not+ verb (past participle form)+ object. Example: • I had not gone to school. • They had not played football. • He had not took a picture of you. Exercise: She had not met him before the party. The plane had not left by the time I got to the airport. I had not written the email before he apologized. She had not established her company before 2008. I had not fallen asleep before eight o'clock.
  • 13. English Grammar-Tense Past Perfect Continuous Tense Structure: Subject+ had + been+ verb (present form)+ ing + object. Example: • I had been going to school. • They had been playing football. • He had been taking a picture of you. Exercise: They had been talking for over an hour. She had been working at that company for three years . James had been teaching at the university for more than a year. we had been sleeping you had been writting He had been speaking.
  • 14. English Grammar-Tense Past Perfect Continuous Tense(neg) Structure: Subject+ had + not + been+ verb (present form)+ ing + object. Example: • I had not been going to school. • They had not been playing football. • He had not been taking a picture of you. Exercise: They had not been talking for over an hour. She had not been working at that company for three years . James had not been teaching at the university for more than a year. we had not been sleeping you had not been writting He had not been speaking.
  • 16. Present tense Structure: Subject + Verb(Present Form)+Object. Example: 1. I write a latter. 2. I eat rice. 3. They Play football. 4. She go to School. 5. He give me a book.
  • 17. English Grammar-Tense Present simple/indefinite Tense Structure: Subject+ verb (present form) + object. Example: • I go to school. • They play football. • He takes a picture of you. Exercise: The earth goes round the sun. I work in a shop. She drives a car. I usually go away at weekends. I get up at 6 o’clock at every morning. He comes from Cumilla.
  • 18. English Grammar-Tense Present simple/indefinite Tense (neg) Structure: Subject+ do/does + not + verb (present form) + object. Example: • I do not go to school. • They do not play football. • He does not take a picture of you. Exercise: The earth does not go around the sun. I do not work in a shop. She does not drives a car. I usually do not go away at weekends. I do not get up at 6 o’clock at every morning. He does not comes from Cumilla.
  • 19. English Grammar-Tense Present Continuous Tense Structure: Subject+ be verb (am/is/are) + verb (present form)+ Ing+ object. Example: • I am going to school. • They are playing football. • He is taking a picture of you. Exercise: The water is boiling. I am getting hungry. They are speaking. It is raining. My father is teaching me. She is writing a letter.
  • 20. English Grammar-Tense Present Continuous Tense (neg) Structure: Subject+ be verb (am/is/are) + not+ verb (present form)+ Ing+ object. Example: • I am not going to school. • They aren’t playing football. • He isn’t taking a picture of you. Exercise: The water isn’t boiling. I am not getting hungry. They aren’t speaking. It isn’t raining. My father isn’t teaching me. She isn’t writing a letter.
  • 21. English Grammar-Tense Present Perfect Tense Structure: Subject+ have/has + verb (past participle form)+ object. Example: • I have gone to school. • They have played football. • He has took a picture of you. Exercise: I have gone to market. She has driven a car. They have played cricket. He has wrote a letter. They have spoke. My father has taught me.
  • 22. English Grammar-Tense Present Perfect Continuous Tense(neg) Structure: Subject+ have/has+ not + been+ verb (present form)+ ing + object. Example: • I have not been going to school. • They have not been playing football. • He has not been taking a picture of you. Exercise: He has not been living New York since 1992. She has not been working in an organization since 2008. It has not been raining since morning. They have not been cleaning the class room for an hour.
  • 24. Future tense Structure: Subject + shall/will + Verb (Present Form)+Object. Example: 1. I shall write a latter. 2. I will eat rice. 3. They will play football. 4. She will go to School. 5. He will give me a book.
  • 25. English Grammar-Tense Future simple/indefinite Tense Structure: Subject+ Shall/will+ verb (present form) + object. Example: • I shall go to school. • They will play football. • He will take a picture of you. Exercise: We shall move to another city. He will come to New York tomorrow. They will make a phone which has artificial intelligence. I shall go to market. They will do the work.
  • 26. English Grammar-Tense Future simple/indefinite Tense(neg) Structure: Subject+ Shall/will + not+ verb (present form) + object. Example: • I shall not go to school. • They will not play football. • He will not take a picture of you. Exercise: We shall move to another city. He will come to New York tomorrow. They will make a phone which has artificial intelligence. I shall go to market. They will do the work.
  • 27. English Grammar-Tense Future Continuous Tense Structure: Subject+ shall/will + be + verb (present form)+ Ing+ object. Example: • I shall be going to school. • They will be playing football. • He will be taking a picture of you. Exercise: I shall be sleeping at around 6.00 AM tomorrow. They will be playing at this time tomorrow. She will be watching TV when I come home. I will be working in the office while you watch a movie.
  • 28. English Grammar-Tense Future Continuous Tense(neg) Structure: Subject+ shall/will + not + be + verb (present form)+ Ing+ object. Example: • I shall not be going to school. • They will not be playing football. • He will not be taking a picture of you. Exercise: I shall not be sleeping at around 6.00 AM tomorrow. They will not be playing at this time tomorrow. She will not be watching TV when I come home. I will not be working in the office while you watch a movie.
  • 29. English Grammar-Tense Future Perfect Tense Structure: Subject+ shall/will+ have/has + verb (past participle form)+ object. Example: • I shall have gone to school. • They will have played football. • He will has took a picture of you. Exercise: I shall have completed the assignment by Monday. She will have cleaned the house before her father comes. Alex will have submitted the tender by tomorrow. Before I go to see her, she will have left the place. They will have finished making the bridge by January.
  • 30. English Grammar-Tense Future Perfect Tense(neg) Structure: Subject+ shall/ will+ have/has + verb (past participle form)+ object. Example: • I shall have gone to school. • They will have played football. • He will has took a picture of you. Exercise: I shall have completed the assignment by Monday. She will have cleaned the house before her father comes. Alex will have submitted the tender by tomorrow. Before I go to see her, she will have left the place. They will have finished making the bridge by January.
