In the novel, Primal Fear by William Diehl, there are many ethical dilemmas in the entire novel. This
is to be expected because the plot of the novel was centered around a court case. The stakeholders
involved were the attorneys, judges, the citizens of Chicago, as well as the people being defended in
court. The three main characters of the novel were the ones involved in the major ethical dilemmas.
With the center of the novel being around the court case, there are many different aspects pertaining to
the law. The setting of the novel was important in the ethical point of view seeing as the fundamentals
of ethics state that just because something is ethical doesn t necessarily make it legal. Having this in
mind, I was able to connect the principles of law and ethics to identify the unethical actions that

to prove Aaron s innocence. At the start of the novel, Martin stated that every person has the right to

The objective of the Naked Egg Lab is to soak the egg in a solution and determine if that solution is
isotonic, hypertonic, or hypotonic in relation to the egg. A solution is a mixture of two or more
substances in which the molecules of the substances are evenly distributed (Miller/Levine 2000). The
substances in a solution are solutes, the substance that is dissolved (Miller/Levine 2000), and solvents,
the substance in which the solute dissolves (Miller/Levine 2000). In this case, the egg will be put in a
salt water solution, where salt is the solute and water is the solvent. This lab is looking for three
different types of solutions; isotonic, hypertonic, and hypotonic. An isotonic solution is when the
concentration of two solutions is the same (Miller/Levine 2000). When a solution has a higher
concentration of solutes than the solution on the other side of the membrane, it is hypertonic.

As soon as the fight scene begins Blade pulls out a shotgun. The shot gun is black and long in length.
While the fight is commencing there is a feeling of claustrophobia that the setting creates and
entrapment. This feeling is created through the shots used as he is fighting the vampires and the
composition. Blade is position in the middle of most of the shots and vampires are surrounding him
from either side fighting him. This gives a feeling of isolation and claustrophobia towards the
audience.
While the fight scene is going on the audience will notice that all the vampires are in red and Blade
has high key lighting on him most of the time throughout the scene. This indicates danger around him
and evil and also he is isolated. This shows the audience that Blade is going to be the hero because the
light that is shining on him indicates hope to the audience but then again indicates coldness at the
same time. As the scene goes on there is a mid shot of Blade having lots of stakes around his leg and
plunging it into a vampire s heart. The mise en scene makes us think that it is a good vs. evil theme
and that Blade is on a mission to kill all the vampires because strapped to his leg is a bundle of stakes,
its like Blade was ready and waiting for the vampires to attack.

gender achievement gap in the United States and as I will discuss, around the world. Young women
are doing significantly better than young men, and the results are shocking. In the latest census, males
make up 51 percent of the total U.S. population between the ages of 18 24. Yet only 40 percent of
today s college students are men. Since 1982, more American women than men have received
bachelor s degrees. In the last ten years, two million more women graduated from college than men.
As Kaplan reveals, the average eleventh grade boy writes at the level of the average eighth grade girl.
He also states that women dominate high school honor rolls and now make up more than 70 percent of
class valedictorians. Kaplan says, I am happy to see women succeeding. But can we really afford for
our country s young men to fall so far behind, (733)?
Historically boys were top of the class. Today that is no longer the case. A recent article in The
Economist discusses a 2009 study by the OECD (Organization for Economic Co operation and
