Faster than fairies, faster than witches,
Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches;
And charging along like troops in a battle,
All through the meadows the horses and cattle:
All of the sights of the hill and the plain
Fly as thick as driving rain;
And ever again, in the wink of an eye,
Painted stations whistle by.
From a Railway Carriage
Here is a child who clambers and scrambles,
All by himself and gathering brambles;
Here is a tramp who stands and gazes;
And there is the green for stringing the daisies!
Here is a cart run away in the road
Lumping along with man and load;
And here is a mill and there is a river:
Each a glimpse and gone for ever!

Poetry is an interplay of words and rhythm.
Words are put together, with vivid images and
ideas.
What is poetry?
The difference between poetry and poem
Poem and poetry are both important forms of literature. Each manages
to bring a writers’ creativity to life. These two forms of writing take
words and form them into a masterpiece that will last a life time.
Poem is a composition or literary conception, and poetry in form of
artistic expression.
Poem contributes pleasure. Poetry is appealing enjoyment. It is style
and form of art.
• Poetry develops the power of imagination.
• Makes learning an enjoyable activity.
• Poetry develops our aesthetic sense.
• Poetry allows you to play with language, sentence structure, to find new
ways to communicate, interesting and innovative language idea
• Listening to poetry, builds our listening skills.
• Poetry can be taught as a part of reading, writing, and listening skills
for language development.

Teaching of poetry

Faster than fairies, faster than witches, Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches; And charging along like troops in a battle, All through the meadows the horses and cattle: All of the sights of the hill and the plain Fly as thick as driving rain; And ever again, in the wink of an eye, Painted stations whistle by.   • 4. Poetry is an interplay of words and rhythm. Words are put together, with vivid images and ideas. What is poetry?
  • 5. The difference between poetry and poem Poem and poetry are both important forms of literature. Each manages to bring a writers’ creativity to life. These two forms of writing take words and form them into a masterpiece that will last a life time. Poem is a composition or literary conception, and poetry in form of artistic expression. Poem contributes pleasure. Poetry is appealing enjoyment. It is style and form of art.
  • 6. • Poetry develops the power of imagination. • Makes learning an enjoyable activity. • Poetry develops our aesthetic sense. • Poetry allows you to play with language, sentence structure, to find new ways to communicate, interesting and innovative language idea • Listening to poetry, builds our listening skills. • Poetry can be taught as a part of reading, writing, and listening skills for language development.
