Teaching-Learning Process

Teaching:
• Teaching is the process of arranging situations in which the important things
to be learned are called attention of the learner, their interest developed,
desired aroused, and action promoted.
Learning:
• is the process by which an individual, through one’s own efforts and abilities
changes in the behabiour.
Process:
means a course of procedures, something that occurs in a series of actions
or events conducting to the desired end.
Elements in Learning Situation:
• An effective learning situation is one in which all the essential elements for promoting learning i.e.
learners, teachers, subject matter, teaching materials and physical facilities, relevant to a particular
situation,are present in a dynamic relationships with one another. The conditions under which effective
learning can take place are presented, following Leagans ( 1961).
1. Learner : Persons who want and need to learn are the learner. In an effective learning situations,
learner occupy the most important central position and all efforts are directed towards them.
Learner should :
Be capable of learning
Have interest in learning the subject
Have the need for the information to offered, and
Be able to use the information once it is gained.

Teachers :they are the extension agents who impart training and motivate the
learners. They not only know what to teach, but also know hoe to teach
The teacher should :
• Have clear cut and purposeful teaching objectives.
• Know the subject matter and have it well organized,
• Be enthusiastic and interested about the learners and the subject matter,
• Be able to communicate and skilful in using teaching aids, and
• Be able to encourage participation of the people.
3. Subject matter : it is the content or topic of
teaching that is useful to the learner.
• The subject matter should be :
• Pertinent to learners needs,
• Applicable to their real life situations,
• Well organised and presented logically and clearly,
• Consistent with the overall objectives, and
• Challenging, satisfying and significant to the learners
Teaching Materials: These are appropriate instructional materials,
equipment's and aids.
Teaching materials should be :
• Suitable to the subject matter and physical situation
• Adequate in quantity and available in time, and
• Skilfully used
Physical facilities : it means appropriate physical environment in
which teaching learning can take place.
• The physical facilities should be :
• Compatible with the objectives
• representative of the area and the situations, and adequate and easily
accessible
Criteria for effective learning :
• Learning should be purposeful
• Learning should involved appropriate activity by the learners that engages
maximum number of senses
• Learning must be challenging and satisfying
• Learning must result in functional understanding
