TASK TEN
Before you start your coursework spend some time reflecting on your final product.
Reflecting on Images
o What do the clothing codes tell you?
The students are all wearing typical clothes that are commonly worn by
students. This makes it clear to the target audience that these pictures
are of students. The rucksacks show we all have to carry work around like
all students.
o What are their facial expressions? Why?
They are smiling or looking content. This is to portray that they are
enjoying themselves and to show that the magazine will show you how
you can be happy and successful. None of them look depressed or
unhappy as that would paint the wrong picture.
o What is their posture? Why?
Their posture is upright as it looks much more prepared and confident. If
the posture was hunched then it looks like the person is not determined
and is being dragged down by the work. I wanted to show its fun and
enjoyable.
o What roles and stereotypes are being represented…..or
challenged? Does the image conform with or challenge
conventional ideas of male/female…..young/old……etc?
The stereotypes of a student are being represented as having a rucksack
and folder is very common. However people may not associate males as
being as hard-working and conscientious as females so this stereotype is
being challenged. On my image by the main reception you would expect it
to be really busy but its relaxed and quiet.
o Is the representation of race significant in your image?
No it isn't significant but I may take this into consideration for my music magazine.
Who is being addressed (Audience)?
- Who is the magazine aimed at? How do we know?
The magazine is being targeted at students both male and female. The
colour scheme being neutral colours shows this as well as the cover
lines advertising articles all to do with college life. The masthead of
"student society" also makes it clear.
- What have you done to attract the target audience?
I have made the main image of a student and made features bold to
stand out. I have used interesting cover lines to intrigue students and a
college logo to show the origins of the magazine.
- How have you made use of both text and image to address that
intended audience?
The text is bold and neutral colours so neither gender is put off. There are
different fonts to keep it creative and interesting. I have put strokes on
the text to make it look modern and young. The images are clearly
portraying students just like my target audience.
