Task 3:Analysis of We love pop
magazine
Front Cover
• The magazine is mainly based on pop music. We can tell the
genre of this magazine is dominated by pop music as it has
images of famous pop music artists and the name of the
magazine is ‘we love pop.’
• The masthead is on the left of the cover it doesn’t fit the standard
rule of thirds layout. This magazine does cover does carry the
standard rule of thirds layouts however this is more conventional
as it applies the rule of thirds vertically instead of horizontally.
• The magazine cover has lots of images of different pop artists
such as Meghan Trainor, Taylor Swift, 5SOS and one direction.
These are all pop artists which appeal to young teenagers
especially girls around the age of 12 or 13.
• The main image is of Meghan Trainor, Zoella and Taylor Swift,
this suggests to us that this magazine is mainly aimed at girls who
are around the age of 12 as these 3 are popular artists which
artists mainly appeal to them. The image is a medium close up of
them 3 and they are all wearing clothes which match the colour
scheme of the magazine which is pink, white and orange as these
colours suggest girly connotations to us and appeal to young girls.
• The colour scheme of pink, white and orange is quite feminine
and connote softness and calmness which suggests to us that
this magazine will appeal to young girls and is aimed at them.
• The strapline shows us that this magazine is aimed at young girls
as it says “louis baby zayn split” its telling young girls slightly
about what they will be able to read about inside the magazine
and giving them information on the inside lives of these artists
who the girls would recognise well and would want to read more
about therefore it appeals to them as they would want to buy the
magazine to find out about what is going on in the lives of their
favourite celebrities.
• The cover lines are all about famous pop artists who appeal to the
target audience and therefor would make them want to buy it as
they would want to know the gossip about them. The cover lines
use quite informal language making it more fun and easy to read
for teenagers.
• The target audience of this magazine are young girls around the
age of 12/13 years old as they find these pop artists appealing to
read about.
Contents page
• The layout of the contents page is quite tight and
messy as it has quite a lot of information on it. It
shows us all the main pages featured within the
magazine. Its laid out in the standard rule of thirds
layout.
• A block font has been used for the headline as its
different and conventional, it’s a serif font its quite
bold and chunky however still quite clear to read.
• The language used is quite informal as its aimed at
young teenagers and informal language appeals to
them. Humour is used as it says “I guess people just
want to see me in pain.” Making it more interesting for
the reader. Pronouns like “we” have been used to
make the reader feel more included. Verbs like play,
and listen to shows that there is a semantic field of
music as this is a pop music magazine.
• There are pictures and page numbers next to the
articles so that people can visualise what the article is
going to feature and the page numbers help people
easily find the page they want to read.
• The colour scheme remains the same as the cover,
pink, orange and white this is so that it all looks part of
the same magazine and appeals to the target
audience which in this case are girls aged around 13.
• The target audience of this magazine are teenage
girls and therefore all the articles are about popular
music artists who appeal to girls of this age.
Double Page article
• The double page spread has a typical, basic grid layout, the article is in columns and is positioned so that everything fits into
small boxes like a grid. The layout is quite neat on this article there is an image of Meghan Trainor on one side and text about
her on the other.
• Lots of different types of sans serif fonts have been used for the main text. This is because sans serif fonts are more fancy and
creative and appeal to young teenage girls.
• The space has been used quite well as one whole page is filled with a photo of Meghan Trainor and the other side is filled with
text about her. The space is used in a neat and tidy fashion.
• The photos have little captions on them which use informal language and add humour to the text, this has been done to make
the article more entertaining to read.
• The main image is on the left hand side of the article, it is a medium close up shot of Meghan Trainor holding lip lollipop stick
this links in with the article as it reminds the readers of one of her famous songs. She is also wearing clothes which match the
colour scheme of orange and black.
• The right hand side is an article on Meghan Trainor which portrays her as a person with a good sense of humour and a
banterful person. This side of her is appealing to young teenage girls as they look up to her and see her as a role model therefor
reading about her and getting more information on her personal life is seen as a necessity for these girls so they will buy this
magazine.
The elements that link all the 3 different parts together
• The colour scheme throughout the 3 parts remains the same.
This is because colours like pink, white and orange as these
colours are stereotypically known as female colours and give
female connotations therefor these colours have been used as
they appeal to teenage girls.
• On all 3 parts there is a image of Meghan Trainor as she is the
main feature in the magazine and therefore an image of her is in
all 3 parts of the magazine.
• The language throughout the three parts remains similar its
humorous, light and informal which is appealing to teenagers as
this is the type of language they speak in and the type.
• The name of the magazine “we love pop” appears throughou t
the 3 parts as they want to keep reminding the reader the name
of the magazine and what it’s about.

  • 3. Contents page • The layout of the contents page is quite tight and messy as it has quite a lot of information on it. It shows us all the main pages featured within the magazine. Its laid out in the standard rule of thirds layout. • A block font has been used for the headline as its different and conventional, it’s a serif font its quite bold and chunky however still quite clear to read. • The language used is quite informal as its aimed at young teenagers and informal language appeals to them. Humour is used as it says “I guess people just want to see me in pain.” Making it more interesting for the reader. Pronouns like “we” have been used to make the reader feel more included. Verbs like play, and listen to shows that there is a semantic field of music as this is a pop music magazine. • There are pictures and page numbers next to the articles so that people can visualise what the article is going to feature and the page numbers help people easily find the page they want to read. • The colour scheme remains the same as the cover, pink, orange and white this is so that it all looks part of the same magazine and appeals to the target audience which in this case are girls aged around 13. • The target audience of this magazine are teenage girls and therefore all the articles are about popular music artists who appeal to girls of this age.
  • 4. Double Page article • The double page spread has a typical, basic grid layout, the article is in columns and is positioned so that everything fits into small boxes like a grid. The layout is quite neat on this article there is an image of Meghan Trainor on one side and text about her on the other. • Lots of different types of sans serif fonts have been used for the main text. This is because sans serif fonts are more fancy and creative and appeal to young teenage girls. • The space has been used quite well as one whole page is filled with a photo of Meghan Trainor and the other side is filled with text about her. The space is used in a neat and tidy fashion. • The photos have little captions on them which use informal language and add humour to the text, this has been done to make the article more entertaining to read. • The main image is on the left hand side of the article, it is a medium close up shot of Meghan Trainor holding lip lollipop stick this links in with the article as it reminds the readers of one of her famous songs. She is also wearing clothes which match the colour scheme of orange and black. • The right hand side is an article on Meghan Trainor which portrays her as a person with a good sense of humour and a banterful person. This side of her is appealing to young teenage girls as they look up to her and see her as a role model therefor reading about her and getting more information on her personal life is seen as a necessity for these girls so they will buy this magazine.
  • 5. The elements that link all the 3 different parts together • The colour scheme throughout the 3 parts remains the same. This is because colours like pink, white and orange as these colours are stereotypically known as female colours and give female connotations therefor these colours have been used as they appeal to teenage girls. • On all 3 parts there is a image of Meghan Trainor as she is the main feature in the magazine and therefore an image of her is in all 3 parts of the magazine. • The language throughout the three parts remains similar its humorous, light and informal which is appealing to teenagers as this is the type of language they speak in and the type. • The name of the magazine “we love pop” appears throughou t the 3 parts as they want to keep reminding the reader the name of the magazine and what it’s about.
