crops on the same land on a rotational basis for
improving soil fertility.

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change(UNFCC) by committing industrialized countries
and economies in transition to limit and reduce
greenhouse gases emissions in accordance with agreed
individual targets till 2020
 three mechanisms are to achieve the Kyoto targets:
International Emissions Trading. Clean Development
Mechanism. Joint Implementation.
 It is the first major international effort to slow global
climate change.
UN sustainable development
 UN Summit in New York on 25-27 September 2015,
sustainable development Goal of 2016, Adopted by 193

 World leaders gathered at UN Headquarters in New York
 For the SDG Summit to review progress and identify
measures to accelerate the implementation of the 2030
Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable
Development Goals.
Sustainable development Goal of 2016
Challenges Sustainable development
Challenges of environmental sustainability
1. Global warming due to CO2 emissions.
2. Air pollution and water contamination.
3. Pollution of the oceans, seas and inland waters.
4. Slow energy transition and insufficient share of
renewable energy.
5. Animal species extinction and destruction of their
natural habits.
Challenges Sustainable development
Challenges of environmental sustainability
1. Significant development of modern cities and
agglomerations without a transparent and
comprehensive urban strategy.
2. Uncompromising food production harms.
3. Hydric stress and water scarcity.
4. Overpopulation and waste management.
Challenges Sustainable development
Challenges of economic, business and social
sustainability
1. Poverty and youth unemployment
2. Advancing the circular economy
3. Government action. Without strong and clear signals from
government, companies have difficulty making the business case for
developing projects to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
4. Climate change – performance monitoring. We are already
dealing with impacts from the climate crisis.
