Energy Resources
Energy Resources are sources from which
energy can be obtained.
Natural Energy Resources
Energy is all around us and manifests itself in
many different forms: heat, light, sound,
magnetism, gravity, movement, and all life
functions. It is everywhere in great abundance.
Since the beginning of time, nature has been
producing and reproducing energy in quantities
so that we could never begin to use it all, not even
with the most advanced technology.
Types
• Renewable
• Non-renewable
Renewable
Renewable resources are natural resources
that can be replenished in a short period of
time.
•Solar Energy
•Wind Energy
•Hydroelectric Power
•Geothermal Energy
•Tidal Energy
Solar Energy
Energy comes from the sun is called Solar Energy.
Solar Panel
A solar panel is a set of solar
photovoltaic modules electrically connected and
mounted on a supporting structure. A photovoltaic
module is a packaged, connected assembly of solar
cells.
Solar Panel
Wind Energy
Energy produced by air.
Wind Mill
Wind mill converts the kinetic energy
into electric energy.

Hydroelectric Power
The production of electrical power through
the use of the gravitational force of falling or
flowing water.

Geothermal Energy
Earth's internal heat is thermal energy
generated from radioactive decay and
continual heat loss from Earth's formation.
Tidal Energy
Tidal energy, is a form
of hydropower that converts the energy
of tides into useful forms of power - mainly
electricity.
Nonrenewable
A nonrenewable resource is a natural
resource that cannot be re-made or re-grown
at a scale comparable to its consumption.
Metallic
Nonmetallic
Metallic
Relating to or resembling metal or metals.
Uranium
Nuclear fission uses uranium to create
energy.
Nuclear energy is a nonrenewable resource
because once the
 uranium is used, it is
 gone!
Nonmetallic
Fossil fuel
Fossil fuels are formed from the remains of plants
and animals that lived and died long ago.
The original organic material, with the aid of heat
and pressure, becomes a fuel such as oil or gas.
 Petroleum
 Natural gas
 Coal
o Peat
o Lignite
o Anthracite
How these fossil fuels made
Once these resources are used, they
gone and earth will take million years
to re-grown.
Petroleum
A fossil fuel, petroleum is formed when large
quantities of dead organisms,
usually zooplankton and algae, are buried
underneath sedimentary rock and undergo intense
heat and pressure.
Natural Gas
Natural gas is a fossil fuel formed when
layers of buried plants and animals are exposed to
intense heat and pressure over thousands of years.
The energy that the plants originally obtained from
the sun is stored in the form of carbon in natural gas.
Coal
Is a combustible black or brownish-
black sedimentary rock usually occurring in rock strata in
layers or veins called coal beds or coal seams. The harder
forms, such as anthracite coal, can be regarded
as metamorphic rock because of later exposure to elevated
temperature and pressure.
