Atkins’ tall buildings
A selection of our tallest building projects from
around the world
Atkins has been working on tall and
supertall buildings since the 1990s,
with the majority of its tall projects
located in the Middle East and Asia
Pacific.
According to the Council of Tall
Buildings and Urban Habitat, a building
must be a height of 300 metres or
more to be classified as ‘supertall’.
Atkins’ first supertall project was the
Burj Al Arab in Dubai (321m), which
sits on a manmade island and to this
day is a landmark building in the
region.
In this presentation you’ll find a small
selection of some of the tall and
supertall buildings Atkins has worked
on.
The white stars next to project titles
indicate supertall buildings.
Pearl of the North
Shenyang, China
Height: 568m
The Atkins-designed Pearl of the
North consists of two towers of 568-
and 308-metres high respectively, and
will be the landmark of Shenyang, the
largest city in northeast China.
The tower signals the continuing
growth of the city, and as a symbol of
wisdom, luxury and purity in Chinese
culture, the pearl is instantly
recognisable at the top of the tower
and acts as a beacon for the project
and the city as a whole.
