Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. 3. Introduction
My challenge is to create a simple computer educational game using any software tool. This
game must be designed for educational uses only. I need to include drawings, storyboards, and a
game story in my process journal. I will be presenting my game concept to my teacher and to my
lower classes at the end of the project in this quarter.
Investigation
For investigation I have to explain the problem, explain how is the task relevant to real
issues and how is the task related to area of interaction(s). We have to create a design brief and list
the sources that we have to use. We have to evaluate the source of information and after that I have
to do the design specification. I have to research and design tests to evaluate my product/ solution
against the design criteria.
Design
For design I first have to explain about the designs that I will sketch. I have to mention my
ideas. After that, I have to design 3 layouts with explanations. After sketching the 3 layouts, I have
to choose 1 and create it in the create section. I have to explain the reason I have chosen. I also have
to list the tools that I will use.
Plan
I have to show the process of completing the task using a mind map. I have to write the
main task in the center circle and draw sub circles to shoe the small tasks I will need to complete. I
then have to compare tools that will be used and conclude what I will use. I have to plan chart too.
Create
I have to create the game. I have to write the process on how I created my output. I have to
explain what I did first, second and explain these steps using words and screenshots.
I have to explain any changes that I made to my plan. I have to explain if I did or not follow
my plan completely. I have to evaluate my design specification. I have to explain if I stick with my
design specification or did I make any changes.
4. Evaluate
I will have to list possible evaluation methods that I will use to test my product. I have to evaluate its
relevance to the real issues. I have to do a reflection on my design cycle: Investigation, design, plan,
create and evaluate. I have to show evaluation methods. Next, I have to give it to other people and
ask them to evaluate my work and give it a grade over 100.
Investigation
Problem - Educational games are very important in the classroom. No matter what the age
of the student is, it is very important in the education system of the student. For Semester one in
Fairview International School, I have to create an educational game for the younger generation and
help them to be educated in a simpler and easier way. These games can include mathematics,
science, English, computer, history, geography, civics, environmental studies and many more. As
long as this educational game is helping them in the things that they study in the school, we will
allow the student to use our game and learn their subjects in a better way.
How is it relevant to current issue? - Educational games exist is because many students find
lectures very boring and they do not find it interesting and they do not want to cope with the
lecturer. Even if the student pays attention in the class, educational games can provide a different
way to learn about the same lessons.
Area of interaction – HEALTH AND SOCIAL - - Educational game can be related to the
society around us, as we help the society and their situation. This will help the society to improve
the mental health that is usually available in the games more than being available during the class
time

I am planning to make an educational game using power point since it is quite interesting
and easy. It is convenient and can be created very fast. My plan is to make an educational game on
mathematics and English.
Design Specification
Educational Games are games that are have the aim to educate people for a specific
subject. Educational Games are usually designed for children who are in love with games.
These games help the children to focus more on the study and enjoy their subject.
Educational Games are more interesting, and that makes it very popular and many teachers
use it to teach the young children.
Just like the classroom itself, educational games have many advantages and many
disadvantages. Educational games come in different forms. Some might be on the
computer. In this case, it can teach the important education about the computer and help
them get familiar with it. This is very important because in today's modern world children
need technology to fit into the society and learn how to cope with today’s problems. It can
even help them with their typing skills.
A report in 2005 found out that the children who used proper software had
improved their IQ skills, their Non- verbal skills and help them to have a Long- term
memory.
Games can teach more than the subject. Not only teaching the student, it can also
help the child to get excited about the subject. If the game is very good and the child gets
excited every time they play with it, they will indeed be excited about the subject. It may
even help pave the way to a particular interest the student has.

3-4 year old children who use computers have significantly greater developmental
gains such as increase in intelligence, nonverbal skills and structural knowledge, Longterm memory, manual proficiency, verbal skills, problem solving, abstraction and
conceptual skills.
With advantages, come disadvantages. Computer games sometimes distract the
students, instead of learning the concepts presented in the game, they are focusing attention
on elements of the game that don't have to do with learning the concept. Once students get
to the math problem, they might be tempted to click on all the game elements, guessing the
answer instead of figuring out the problem.
Computer use in the home and school can give students little time to interact with
each other so that they learn few social skills. Heavy computer use can isolate students,
keeping them from making friends. Students who are already isolated and lonely often
choose playing computer games in lieu of using social skills to communicate with others.
It’s hard to determine how long it will take a student to accomplish sub-goals and
ultimately finish a game, which can pose a problem for teachers wanting to outline how
long classroom units should take. While we could set a deadline for when students must
end the game and move onto a new unit, we also run into the problem of students feeling
discouraged from not successfully finishing a game. If we allow students to stay on a game
until they finish, we run the risk of some students falling behind others. It also creates
much more for the teacher to keep track of.

For design I first have to explain about the designs that I will sketch. I have to mention my ideas.
After that, I have to design 3 layouts with explanations. After sketching the 3 layouts, I have to
choose 1 and create it in the create section. I have to explain the reason I have chosen. I also have to

paint. I can use this is inside the game because I like it and It’s very cute. I made this design first
because it is official and it is quite easy.

I choose the third design because it is very colorful and it looks more interesting for
younger primary students. The other drawings are quite boring and I don’t really like them. Maths
can’t really have proper designs because the game is very simple and it is usually done in a very
simple way.

I followed my plan all along. However, I did not use all the things that I thought I’ll use. I just used
power point for the game and paint for the pictures. This game turned out to be an abacus game
and it is just the way I planned it to be.

I like my game, I think it is what a game a grade 1 plays can be. I did not use hard software and i
used power point because I didn’t have any time at all. I like the way the rules are and I am proud
that I was able to make some game like this. It took some time but I learnt something that I didn’t
know it can be done before. I had fun with the game because the game is not complicated and the
people evaluating this product can easily do it anyways.
Real issues
This can’t really be related to the real issues because using abacus instead of fingers is something
important in the school. This is what I learnt to do when I was in Grade 1 and I personally think
that it is very important that children learn the use of the abacus during the elder ages. It is a nice
thing to use and this game can be related to both history and maths.
