E-learning is the use of computers or the internet to advance a person’s studies Examples of E-learning include: Online courses Computers in the classroom Video based classes Lab simulations Instructional CDs or DVDs What is E-learning?
The most prevalent problem that occurs when taking an online course, video based class, or using an instructional CD or DVD is one’s own personal discipline and motivation. The class deadlines go on regardless of one’s completion of homework, problems in life, or illness. When using computers in the classroom some children may not respond to that type of learning. They respond more to sensory interaction with a teacher or their peers. Cons of E-Learning
The most obvious bonus to taking a class that does not have a set time is that you can work your class schedule around other schedules that are not as flexible. Being able to reiterate a difficult concept to learn via E-learning offers a plethora of opportunities to reinforce ideas that might not otherwise be learned. Repetition is the most effective way to learn. Pros of E-learning
For the sake of this slideshow we will define educational software as any game which is available by download, website, DVD, or CD that is intended to teach a child to read, speak another language, recognize colors or shapes, or perform basic mathematical skills. What is or is not an Educational Software Game
Using games in the classroom and as homework can prepare children for an easier lifestyle than for the hard work that is required at higher levels of education. Too often overuse of games in education can lead to a lifestyle of gaming in non-educational ways which may interfere with more important things. Educational Software Games in a Negative Light
Having an additional tool for teachers and students alike gives children a better chance for finding a learning style that is most effective for them. While some students may not respond to any other type of learning style, having the interaction in a familiar and fun venue, like a game, will allow them to learn “accidentally.” Educational Software Games in a Positive Light
The Arts can be defined as drawing, painting, singing, composing, writing, or dancing. Any way that is not harmful in which one can express oneself and one’s personality. A creative way of learning that is unique to each individual and yet the fundamentals can be taught. What are The Arts?
Occasionally a child may feel less talented than another if they deem their work sub par. Depending on the type of Arts chosen some children may feel their culture or circumstances are under attack or being neglected. Some children may not respond as well to some Arts as others. The Downside of The Arts
The Arts allow individual interpretation and emotional outlet in a safe environment. The Arts provide the ability for children who prefer a more solitary assignment to still learn and express themselves without encroaching on their comfort zone. The Arts often help to improve a child’s manual, mental, and physical dexterity. The Arts assist with a child’s self disipline. The Upside of The Arts
While textbooks are both necessary and useful, other means of teaching are helpful. There are many ways of teaching, all with negative and positive sides, but when used in conjunction with each other they allow for a more rounded eclectic experience. New tools for reaching children who tend to have shorter attention spans are a vital part of the teacher’s arsenal. Each child is unique so every teacher should be able to adapt their teaching style accordingly. Conclusion
