bioefficacy of different
insecticides
OBJECTIVES
 To record the Seasonal occurrence of
insect pests on soybean.
 To Evaluate the efficacy of different
insecticides against major insect pests
of soybean.
 To work out the benefit cost ratio for
insecticidal treatments.
INTRODUCTION
Soyabean is recognized as one of the premier crops
around the world. It’s a major source of vegetable oil,
protein and animal feed. Due to high protein content
(>40%) and high oil content (>20%), as it contains 26.5%
carbohydrate, 5.5% minerals and 2% Phospholipids.
Soyabean is considered to be an important food
commodity.
In Chhattisgarh, soybean crop is attacked by
many species of insect-pests viz., girdle beetle,
Obereopsis brevis Swedenbord; tobacco caterpillar,
Spodoptera litura Fabricius, green semilooper,
Chrysodeixis acuta Walker; white fly, Bemisia tabaci
Gennadius and jassid, Empoasca kerri Pruthi and natural
enemies viz.Spider ,Pentatomid Bug & Beetle.
Objective -1
 To Study the Seasonal
occurance of of insect pests on
soyabean.
Methodology
 In a plot of 10X5 m2 area variety JS 97-52 will be sown. Ten
places at random will be selected for the study of insect
pest complex. Insect pest population on randomly selected
plants will be counted through direct visual counting
method on ten plants. Population of different insect pests
will be recorded at weekly interval during morning hours
between 7.00 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. without disturbing the pest
fauna. The larval population will be counted in one meter
row length and sucking pest like white fly, thrips , Jassids
will be recorded in three leaves per plant. The population
of Natural enemies Coccinella transversalis, Eocanthecona
furcellata,Oxyopes salticus are also recorded in weekly
observation.

 To Screen the different
genotypes of soybean against
major insect pests.

Methodology
 About 34 & 12 entries of AVT 1 and AVT 2 will be sown
in 3 meter row length, in 2 rows and 4 check entries
and replicated twice will be sown along with testing
entries. The observation on pest population will be
recorded at the time of maximum insect pest in which
the larval population will be counted in one meter row
length and sucking pest like white fly, thrips,Jassids will
be recorded in three leaves per plants. The population
of Natural enemies Coccinella transversalis,
Eocanthecona furcellata,Oxyopes salticus are also
recorded in observation.

 To Evaluate the newer
insecticidal molecules against
major insect pests of soybean.

Methodology
 Pre-treatment observation of insect population will be
recorded 24 hours before spray. Post treatment of
Insecticidal applications will be made after 1,3,7 and
10 days of spray in which the larval population will be
counted in one meter row length and sucking pest like
white fly, thrips etc.,will be recorded in three leaves
per plant. Five places at random will be selected for
the study of insect pests of soyabean.

Objective-4
 To Record the cost benefit
ratio for insecticidal treatment.
Methodology
 For benefit cost analysis, record of costs incurred in
each treatment and that of control will be
maintained. It is to be noted here that expenses
incurred referred to those only on pest management
i.e. cost of insecticides and labour charges for
insecticide spraying. The price of the harvested yield
of each treatment and that of control will also be
calculated at market rate. Thereafter, Benefit cost
ratio (B: C ratio) will be calculated by the estimation
of different pest management cost by adjusting with
the control condition .

Studies on Seasonal occurrence of soybean insect pests

  • 2. Topic Studies on Seasonal occurrence of soybean insect pests and relative bioefficacy of different insecticides
  • 3. OBJECTIVES  To record the Seasonal occurrence of insect pests on soybean.  To Evaluate the efficacy of different insecticides against major insect pests of soybean.  To work out the benefit cost ratio for insecticidal treatments.
  • 4. INTRODUCTION Soyabean is recognized as one of the premier crops around the world. It’s a major source of vegetable oil, protein and animal feed. Due to high protein content (>40%) and high oil content (>20%), as it contains 26.5% carbohydrate, 5.5% minerals and 2% Phospholipids. Soyabean is considered to be an important food commodity. In Chhattisgarh, soybean crop is attacked by many species of insect-pests viz., girdle beetle, Obereopsis brevis Swedenbord; tobacco caterpillar, Spodoptera litura Fabricius, green semilooper, Chrysodeixis acuta Walker; white fly, Bemisia tabaci Gennadius and jassid, Empoasca kerri Pruthi and natural enemies viz.Spider ,Pentatomid Bug & Beetle.
  • 5. Objective -1  To Study the Seasonal occurance of of insect pests on soyabean.
  • 6. Methodology  In a plot of 10X5 m2 area variety JS 97-52 will be sown. Ten places at random will be selected for the study of insect pest complex. Insect pest population on randomly selected plants will be counted through direct visual counting method on ten plants. Population of different insect pests will be recorded at weekly interval during morning hours between 7.00 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. without disturbing the pest fauna. The larval population will be counted in one meter row length and sucking pest like white fly, thrips , Jassids will be recorded in three leaves per plant. The population of Natural enemies Coccinella transversalis, Eocanthecona furcellata,Oxyopes salticus are also recorded in weekly observation.
  • 7. Objective -2  To Screen the different genotypes of soybean against major insect pests. AVT 1 AVT-11 Plot size 2×3m 2×3m Replications 4 4 Design RBD RBD No.of Varities 29+4=34 8+4=12
  • 8. Methodology  About 34 & 12 entries of AVT 1 and AVT 2 will be sown in 3 meter row length, in 2 rows and 4 check entries and replicated twice will be sown along with testing entries. The observation on pest population will be recorded at the time of maximum insect pest in which the larval population will be counted in one meter row length and sucking pest like white fly, thrips,Jassids will be recorded in three leaves per plants. The population of Natural enemies Coccinella transversalis, Eocanthecona furcellata,Oxyopes salticus are also recorded in observation.
  • 9. Objective-3  To Evaluate the newer insecticidal molecules against major insect pests of soybean. Experimental Details Design Randomized Block Design Treatment 7 Replication 3 Spacing 30 cm row length and10cm plant to plant Plot size 4m×5m Variety JS 97-52
  • 10. Methodology  Pre-treatment observation of insect population will be recorded 24 hours before spray. Post treatment of Insecticidal applications will be made after 1,3,7 and 10 days of spray in which the larval population will be counted in one meter row length and sucking pest like white fly, thrips etc.,will be recorded in three leaves per plant. Five places at random will be selected for the study of insect pests of soyabean.

  • 12. Objective-4  To Record the cost benefit ratio for insecticidal treatment.
  • 13. Methodology  For benefit cost analysis, record of costs incurred in each treatment and that of control will be maintained. It is to be noted here that expenses incurred referred to those only on pest management i.e. cost of insecticides and labour charges for insecticide spraying. The price of the harvested yield of each treatment and that of control will also be calculated at market rate. Thereafter, Benefit cost ratio (B: C ratio) will be calculated by the estimation of different pest management cost by adjusting with the control condition .
