John Keats s Poem, Ode On A Grecian Urn, And The Eve Of...
Keats covered many topics in the poems he wrote during his short life but the theme of fantasy being a
better alternative to reality was prominent throughout many of his works. To Keats the idea that,
Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter (Urn 11 12) play a major role in his poetry,
demonstrating that for him the idea of what is yet to come is far better than the actual reality of the
situation. Through the narratives and stories he tells in his poems, Ode on a Grecian Urn, Ode to a
Nightingale, and The Eve of St. Agnes, it is made evident that Keats would rather live in the fantasy
realm of his own mind than in reality. In his poem Ode on a Grecian Urn, the fantasy that Keats feels
is better than reality is displayed in the scenes decorating the urn, pictures forever frozen in time. At
the beginning of stanza two Keats writes, Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter
(Urn 11 12). In these lines Keats is saying that the anticipation of an event or experience is far better
than the actual experience itself, or rather that the reality of a situation can never truly live up to the
ideal that one has had in one s mind. To Keats, the scenes displayed on the urn are so beautiful that he
not only admires the artwork, he envies those on the urn because they will forever get to display the
scenes of Happy happy boughs (Urn 21) and, unlike he, will never have to bid the spring adieu (Urn
22). To him the urn exemplifies the

First Emperor Of China Essay
Although he did wonderful things while he was alive, the first emperor of China was not a wonderful
person. This is because of his greed, the large amount of people he executed, and his failed attempts to
live forever. But who was the first emperor of China? What kind of things did he accomplish? And
why do so many insist that he was a bad person?
The answer lies in the Period of Warring States. Before China was unified, it was a land composed of
seven independent states, they were kind of like countries. Those states were always at war for
superiority. In Chinese culture, this is known as the Period of Warring States (First Emperor of China).
In the midst of the Period of Warring States, a young merchant, Lu Buwei, was in need of a favor, so
he traveled to the state of Qin, in the North, in seek for the prince. Once he found the Prince, named
Zizhu Zheng, the merchant offered one of his mistresses in return for the favor. That mistress later
became pregnant and gave birth to the future emperor of China in 259 B.C. Rumor has it that the
father wasn t actually the prince, instead it was the merchant that lead his mother there, but either way,
the new baby was now part of the royal family (Law of Shi Huangdi).
The name given to the newborn child was Ying Zheng (Lloyd). When he was ten years old, his father

Severe punishments were given to the smallest of crimes. That s because of Qin Shi Huang Di s strong
belief in legalism. Legalism is a form of philosophy, which main idea is that humans are creatures that
need to be kept in line, in an organized manner, under a leader with a strict rule. Another strong
believer in this philosophy was Han Fei Tzu. He was another Legalist and the tutor of Shi Huang Di.
He wrote, The ruler alone should possess the power, wielding it like lightning or like thunder. In the
philosophy of legalism, harsh punishments are strongly supported (Law of Shi

Analysis Of The Poem The Usns Bob Hope
The USNS Bob Hope is a US Navy cargo ship named after the famous entertainer Bob Hope. It may
seem odd for a naval vessel to be named after an entertainer, but what Hope did for the Navy and the
military as a whole is worth the honor. Bob hope performed at hundreds of USO shows spanning 50
years. He dedicated much of his life to supporting US military efforts in the wars the country
participated in between the years of 1941 1991. Although Bob Hope may not have been a great
military leader like many other ships namesakes, but what Hope did shows great leadership in other
less expected ways. Leslie Townes Hope was born on May 29, 1903 in Eltham, London. His family
emigrated from England to the United States in 1908. Hope dropped out of school at age 16, and he
tried a few different career options before he eventually landed on entertainer. He started out taking
dance lessons and then working in small vaudeville shows. He started to gain some success with his
partner act before he discovered that he had a talent as a master of ceremonies (MC). He then split
from his partner in order to pursue this, and he was more successful as an MC. As Leslie Hope
continued to gain popularity, he decided that a name like Bob had a better sound to it; from then on he
was known to all as Bob Hope. In the early 40 s before the US was at war, Bob Hope performed for a
radio show, and In May 1941, the producer of the show convinced Hope to record the show at a live
performance in

Social Problems Of Social Class
Social classes are categories individuals are put into based on income, lifestyles, opportunities, job
occupations, behaviors, and attitudes. Virtually all societies have a class system, and America is no
exception. To prevent mixing of class systems Class boundaries are maintained by limiting social
interaction, intermarriage, and mobility into another class (Tischler, 2014, P.181). How many social
classes exist in American society is debatable, however many believe that there is only five. The five
American social classes are upper class, upper middle class, middle middle class, lower middle class,
and lower class. The first class is the upper class, which consist of wealthy individuals who maintain
an exclusive lavish lifestyle. This class has a great influence on the majority of society s primary
political and economic structures. Those in the upper class like to be separate from other classes, and
do this by having, and belonging to prestigious private schools and clubs. The upper class is relatively
small, It is estimated that in the United States, the upper class consist of from 1 to 3 percent of the
population (Tischler, 2014, P.181). Modern day people of the upper class can be represented by
entrepreneurs, such as William Gates, Warren Buffet, Mark Zuckerberg, or Larry Ellison. The next
class is the upper middle class, people in this class are usually successful professional and business
people as well as their families, and are just below the upper class,

The Focal Length of Spherical Mirrors
THE FOCAL LENGTH OF SPHERICAL MIRRORS
Section 1: The Focal length of a concave mirror

Section 1: To determine the focal length of a Concave Mirror by locating the centre of curvature.
ABSTRACT:
In this paper we want to discuss the focal point of a concave mirror by locating the centre of
curvature. The focal point is a point in space at which light incident towards the mirror and travelling
parallel to the principal axis will meet after reflection. The diagram at the right depicts this principle.
In fact, if some light from the sun were collected by a concave mirror, then it would converge at the
focal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the diagram I have drawn I ve had to exaggerate the shape of the mirror a bit to be able to use it in
some of the diagrams later on, but you should be able to get the basic idea. Like a regular circle, the
distance from the centre to the surface of the mirror is the radius.
Focus or Focal Point (F)
If an object was infinitely far away from the mirror, the light from it would converge on this one point.
In the diagrams we are doing we will mostly be looking at how some light rays pass through (or
appear to pass through) this focal point. The focal point is exactly in between the mirror and the
centre. Since the distance between the centre and the mirror is the radius, the distance from the focal
point to the mirror is half of the radius.
Principle Axis
The blue line is the principle axis, a line that we will use as a reference point in our diagrams. It passes
through the centre and is perpendicular to the surface of the mirror. (White, 1999)
There are two main rules we need to use to figure out where the image of the object will appear. All of
the rules involve what a ray will do when leaves the object.
Rule #1: Any ray through the focal point will reflect parallel to the principle axis (Figure 2).
Light reflects off objects at all sorts of angles, and if it will help us to find where an image is, we
might as well assume one ray goes right through the focus.

Issues Facing America Today
There are many issues facing America today, that simultaneously affect those around the globe. When
trying to decide what is worse for the United States of America; being too involved in the affairs of
other nations troubles or allowing evil to run free, we have to carefully look at both sides. I believe
that evil can be contained, but we cannot be the babysitter of other nations. I completely understand
that in order for America to be safe that we have to watch closely countries that may pose a threat to
our safety. For example; after World War II America was said to be the lead and Peace Keepers
between many countries. Newt Gingrich says that we did not ask to be the leader of the world, but that
it was thrust upon us. It was time for

Simon And Garfunkel s Like A Bridge Over Troubled Water
Complete But Not Finished The tune of Simon and Garfunkel s Like a Bridge over Troubled Water,
one of the greatest songs of all time, whispered in my ear. I pulled the heaps of fuzzy blankets up to
my chin and nestled myself in my safe haven, my private escape. I concentrated on Garfunkel s
angelic voice as he sang, Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind. I was ready for my
unwinding tactic, just four minutes and fifty one seconds that left me in sublime awe, and the stress
was sure to disappear for a while. My exhausted eyes grew heavy, my heart defrosted, and my mind
wandered... How did I become? When I was younger I had a seemingly abnormal requirement: the
seam of my socks absolutely had to be precisely aligned on my toes, no lower, no higher. Looking
back, I am now fully aware that at the age of four I was an absolute control fiend. Who could blame
me as a four year old though? Surely my Mom partly did; however, it was an ... Show more content on

Why is there something rather than nothing? How do we know we know? What is consciousness and
why do we have it? Is life all a dream? Why are there exceptions to every rule? Surrounded by
ambiguity, how can we attempt to control the universe? Comfort is derived only in believing that life
is not merely a series of meaningless coincidences but rather an intricate combination of events that
culminate in a sublime scheme. I am yet to discover the answers to the multitude of hungry questions I
have stirring inside of me, but I am ready to plunge myself into the abyss of obscurity because, unlike
my four year old self, I now don t expect my socks to match no less line up. Garfunkel s voice faded,
my eyes opened and I felt wonderstruck as well as a little bit confused. I realized that while I am far
from finished I am complete in this moment. Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind, I

Being A Cheerleader Essay
It was the summer of 2011. I had just graduated elementary school the month before and I was excited
that I was finally going to be a middle schooler. During the summer, I received a flyer in the mail that
said: Do you have what it takes to be a cheerleader? Come out to the middle school and see if the
DMS Falcons is the right squad for you! I remember running eagerly to my mom and saying that I had
to do this. I was a cheerleader for a short period of time in elementary school and I fell in love with the
sport. My mom didn t jump at the idea, but the following week there I was, warming up in my new
school gym not knowing that the next person I met would change my life forever.
The coach of the cheerleading team, Crystal Lassiter, called everyone to attention and went over the
rules. Throughout the week, Ms. Lassiter observed everyone and after tryouts she said that everyone
would receive a phone call with the results. I waited by the phone anxiously until it was after ten PM.

My Home Country Korea Has A Reputation For Its Intense...
My home country Korea has a reputation for its intense education system. When I was in high school,
I used to go to school at 7am, finish class at 4pm, and have self study time in school until 10pm. The
main reason I needed to study that long was because of math and especially Calculus. Calculus took
more than half of the math course and therefore was a crucial subject. Experiencing Korean Calculus
course is not an experience most students here in Miami can have, so I would like to introduce what is
what like, how it was different from MTH 151, and what I learned through the experience.
First, to give a brief explanation about Korean Calculus, the material I learned was mostly the same to
that of MTH 151, starting from limits to anti derivatives. However, Korean Calculus has more
challenging problems than just calculations. Calculation problems are used to get a grip of the
mathematical concepts, but the real problems are integrated questions. These are math questions that
have mixtures of different math concepts, such as derivatives combined with matrix. In addition to the
basic concepts, teachers teach advanced equations outside of textbooks that are useful when solving
integrated problems and tips on solving specific hard questions that come up frequently in tests.
After experiencing both Korean and American math, the biggest difference I noticed was the level of
intensity. On the one hand, Korea is very harsh when it comes to math. Basically, the amount of math

Short Story On Banana Boating
BANANA BOAT! The most wonderful thing to do in the water is to go banana boating. The rush of
the wind and water is worth all the times you were scared to mount the inflatable in the first place.
That is, until you get off the boat. Then you realize that those things in the water is why, it is why you
didn t do this yourself.
Come on Rori! You chicken or what?
I am not chicken, I will tell you that. But I was scared. Scared of the water activities. I was at Camp
Silver Beach. My cabin was strolling into the bay. My friend Hannah Banana had plans for me and
her. She planned for me to go on the banana boat with her. I heard stories of the legendary banana
boats. Some didn t end well. As soon as I was about to decline Banana pushed me into the line. I
decided to go with it. We walked out to the boats and mounted them slowly. The boat drivers in the
front were telling us about hand signals and how to go faster. They started slow. I was the first one
who put my hand up to go faster.
...
It was the second day of my boating quest. Me and Banana went again. It was the same as last time.
We went faster and faster, wind in my face and water on my feet. Everything was perfect. It felt like a
dream. As soon as the boat stopped though, I regretted every second of it.
OW! No! Help, stop it!
Banana needed help. She ran away from the spot of danger quickly and not so gracefully.
Are you ok? I could of called our cabin counselor for help!
Banana quickly declined the help. She obviously had a high pain tolerance. On the other hand, a small
touch would make me cry for help.
...
Banana looked scared of the water. She wanted out quickly. I decided to jump out and help her walk
back to the sandy shore.
You don t need to help me! Come off on the other side of the boat!
Nonsense Banana! This is the fastest way to help you
I m a moron aren t I! I stepped into the water and felt a tickle on my legs. The tickle was a twisted
touch. It soon turned onto a sting that burned my legs to a crisp.
Oh my god. OUCH! Help! SUGER HONEY ICED TEA THAT HURTS!
I told yo OW! So...
Our cabin counselor ran over. She told us that she would walk us back. Thank god she could see the
stinging anomaly that swam through the waters.

Dna And Protein Synthesis Essay
DNA and Protein Synthesis
One of the most fundamental properties of any and all living organisms is that of reproduction. As we
all have learned, organisms inherit their genetic information defining their structure and functions
from their parents. Similarly, all cells come from preexisting cells, so the genetic information is
duplicated and pass from the parent to the new cell of each division.
DNA is the term that is used in biology, as well as several other parts of your everyday life. We all
know that DNA is a part of our bodies, but may wonder what exactly is DNA. DNA which is also
known as deoxyribonucleic acid, which is the genetic material of a cell. DNA is considered to be the
molecule of life, and aides in the determination of our physical characteristics. DNA is present in all
living organisms.
It is said that the process of protein synthesis is controlled by the DNA molecules. Proteins are used
for growth and repair, as well as enzymes. Thus, DNA is able to apply some controlling influence over
the cells as a whole, and ultimately the organism as well. In DNA, the segments which hold the vital
key to this process are referred to as the genes.
In the early 1940 s, two American geneticists by the names of George Wells Beadle, and Edward
Lawrie Tatum provided one of the first vital clues. While they were working with fungi, more
specifically Nuerospora and Penicillium, they found information regarding genes and how they direct
the formation of enzymes through the

The Negative Effects Of Deforestation
Introduction
Trees and any plantation for that matter are often taken for granted as they provide many of the
essentials such as photosynthesis regulation, habitat, food, and even save ground to build construction.
However as more people demand more, more space will be needed and cutting away the trees for
humans to use. Deforestation is the act of cutting and clearing a large area of trees. It is the cause of
extreme damage to the ecosystem and sustainability of life. Deforestation is negatively affecting the
interaction between the water cycle, soil sustainability, and trees stability.
There is a chain reaction due to deforestation. Deforestation leads to decrease in biotic pump
disrupting the water cycle leading to a decrease in transpiration and increase in temperature. Such rise
in temperature leads to lack of rainfall to the forest and increase droughts and forest fires to which
fires will disrupt the water cycle even more. Deforestation effects on Amazon forest resilience (Zemp
et al. 2017) build on upon previous research done and used similar methods to collect data. Although
they have come to some shortcomings such as risk of underestimating the differences introduced in
evapotranspiration following deforestation, compared to study using fine scale observations over
already deforested areas [Silvério et al., 2015] (Zemp et al. 2017), acknowledging that deforestation
has a grave effects on the water cycle, it is expected that hydroclimate would support the effects

The definition of mainstreaming generally refers to the physical placement of students with disabilities

The questions of where the education should take place, who should provide the curriculum and what
should be taught still cannot be answered. The question of where and whether place A , regular
classroom setting, or place B, special education classroom, is better cannot be answered. The
foundation of special education is based on individual need so the concept of one place contradicts the
commitment to individualization education. The question of what the students should be taught also
cannot be properly answered. Should they be taught the same standards in the same way by the same
teacher, again contradicting the purpose of specialized education, or should they be taught on their
level with specific skill sets for independent living in a specialized classroom. Should special
education be taught in large classroom settings where direct interaction is infrequent or in smaller
classrooms where direct instruction is constant for increased educational gains? In the large classroom
settings should co teachers be utilized, which has been proven to be ineffective but an easy out for
general classroom teachers? The questions cannot be answered and are fueled by passion not principal

The Enlightenment And The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a change in the hearts and minds of men. It left a significant impact on the
world we know today and gave us great men to remember. The Enlightenment was a intellectual
movement that brought change to the views of Christianity, the importance of reason, the
understanding of nature and humanity, and the equality of man. Those of the later will be the focus of
this paper. Curiosity for understanding the natural world led to new scientific exploration as well as
new discoveries. The philosophical aspects of the period made their way into effecting politics from
its time and on. The Age of Enlightenment began in the early 17th century and officially continued
into the 18th century. The movement at the time held high praise for intellectual developments made
with its roots in reason. This was so much so that the movement was also known as the Age of
Reason. This basis that the world and humanity could be bettered through the application of reason
spread from the influence of Greek philosophy1. Greek philosophy played a role in the development
of Scholasticism, which was the questioning of scholarly Christians trying to solve new philosophical
questions2.

The Enlightenment was indeed and Age though as it s ideologies for the masses were swayed back

The Age of Enlightenment was set to make a major impact in the scientific community. A new trend
had spread across Europe. This was a trend of questioning what the natural world was truly an

of the hypothetical while answering with philosophical ideology, there were also profound scientist
that would only except undeniable truths of the universe. These profound scientists which either

Book Report On The Book I
For this reading assignment, we were reading chapters 1, 2, and 3 I find it helpful to me to read, take
notes and write out summaries as if this was two books. I will start off each time with Wes the author.
As the book opens, we have Wes remembering a day that he and his older sister, Nikki, were playing a
game. Wes caught her, and not knowing what to do, punched her in the face. Joy, Wes mother, was
very upset because Wes had hit a girl , and sent him to his room.
Wes father calmed Joy down by saying that Wes didn t know what punching a girl like that meant.
Wes father went up to speak to Wes about his behavior. As he knocked on the door and entered, he
calls Wes his Main Man. The author went on to say that the memory of his father, named Westley,
speaking to him after he had punched his sister, was only one of two memories he had of his father.
The other memory was him watching his dad die. Westley had not been feeling well, and eventually
drove himself to the hospital. The hospital staff did not know what to make of his symptoms, so for
his sore throat, they numbed it for him to relieve the pain, and sent him home to rest. Later he

Corruption In The Poisonwood Bible
Throughout Barbara Kingsolver s novel The Poisonwood Bible, the downfall of the Price family is
enclosed through the words of each family member. One may blame Nathan Price, the father of the
Price family, for the downfall of his family. Therefore, his preaching is poisonous to his loved ones.
During their time in the Congo, the women of the Price family constantly wish to return back home,
but it is Nathan who forces their stay. Nathan poisons his family through his abusive behavior towards
his family, and ultimately kills his daughter, Ruth May. Aside from poisoning his own family, Nathan
Price also poisons the African people. Towards the end of the novel, Adah Price goes into detail about
the mistakes that have taken place in the copies of the Bible. For ... Show more content on

Through Orleanna Price, the reader learns that upon marriage, Nathan was drafted for the war. While
on the Philippine shore, his company fought their way into Luzon. After being struck in the head with
a shell fragment, Nathan was spotted on the beach and picked up by a PT boat. It wasn t until a few
days later that Nathan learned that his fellow soldiers did not make it out alive. Orleanna states, It
would permanently curl one soldier s heart like a piece of shoe leather (196). Nathan s guilt for
surviving the war makes him fearless when placed in dangerous situations, such as life in the Congo.
Not only does Nathan Price carry the burden of guilt throughout the novel, but Orleanna does as well.
Upon the death of Ruth May, Orleanna carries the guilt of not guiding her daughters out of the Congo
to safety. Orleanna states, The substance of grief if not imaginary. It s as real as rope or the absence of

Software Applications And Hardware Systems
Businesses can avoid costs of purchasing and installing software applications and hardware systems.
In other words, cloud computing turns fixed costs into variable costs. Business operations are more
flexible due to the use of cloud computing. Companies can save funds that were used previously to
outsource teams to maintain routine information technology operations, data storage and backup. Now
companies can focus on core operations and hire more workers in the fields of design and
development. Google Docs is an example of cloud computing allowing several users to work together
on a single document in real time. Virtualization has reduced the overall equipment footprint of a
company s data center. This means, fewer servers, less networking equipment, hence less physical
space needed. Virtualization creates a virtual version of an operating system. Virtualizing servers
reduces physical hardware further reducing generation heat in the data center hence solving many
issues. Many businesses have considered IT s intensive enterprise and installed latest technologies to
meet today s and future customer requirements. Intel Virtualization Technology is the biggest
advancement of enterprise information technology. Intel closely works with other softwares like
VMware, XENSource, Parallels, tenAsys, VirtualIron, RedHat, Novell and other VMM developers
(Burger, 2012). With the arrival of virtualization, it is not uncommon to accomplish 10:1 virtual to

End Of Semester Reflection. This Semester Has Been A Tough
End of Semester Reflection This semester has been a tough one but I feel like I have learned a lot
about pharmacy over these past few months. I have had a lot of courses so far and in each one, I have
been able to make connections to the practice of pharmacy. In this essay, I will reflect on some of
things I learned in my courses and how they relate to my future career as a pharmacist. I will also
identify areas where certain topics intersect in different courses.
In my pharmaceutics course, I learned a lot about drug dosage forms. One example is when I was
taught about the different kinds of inhalers and what distinguishes them from each other. I also learned
about how these inhalers deliver the drug into the target organ and ... Show more content on

Insulin is a hormone that allows the body to store glucose. Diabetes is a disease state that results from
the body not able to use insulin or the body cannot produce enough insulin. Since there is lack of
insulin in a diabetic, glucose is not able to be stored. This means that glucose remains in the body and
draws water out of cells causing dehydration. Additionally, the kidneys cannot reabsorb excess
glucose and it spills into urine causing an osmotic effect. The above problems mentioned lead to
excessive thirst and excessive urination. In a diabetic, glucose is not able to be used as a fuel source so
fatty acids and proteins are used instead. This leads to weight loss, hunger, and a loss of energy.
Biochemistry did a great job at teaching us very relevant material about pharmacy. As pharmacists, we
dispense a lot of vitamins so it is important to know why patients are taking them. It is also important
to be able to educate them if they have any questions. This goes for diabetic patients as well. Knowing
how the disease works and being able to explain it to patients is something that we have to know as
pharmacists. We must be able to answer a patient s questions about their diabetes and symptoms if
they have any.

hands on activities using what we learned. For example, when we learned about suppositories in

New World Order in Conspiracy Theory
New World Order (conspiracy theory)
This article is about the use of the term New World Order in conspiracy theory. For other uses, see
New World Order (disambiguation).
The reverse side of the Great Seal of the United States (1776). The Latin phrase novus ordo seclorum ,
appearing on the reverse side of the Great Seal since 1782 and on the back of the U.S one dollar bill
since 1935, means New Order of the Ages and only alludes to the beginning of an era where the
United States of America is an independent nation state, but is often improperly translated by
conspiracy theorists as New World Order .[1]

Thus, activists around the globe formed a world federalist movement bent on creating a real new
world order.[11] In the 1940s, British writer and futurist H. G. Wells would go further by
appropriating and redefining the term new world order as a synonym for the establishment of a
scientifically managed world state and socialist economy.[12]
During the Red Scare of 1947 1957, conspiracy theorists of the American secular and Christian right
increasingly embraced and mongered unfounded fears of Freemasons, Illuminati, and Jews being the
driving force behind an international communist conspiracy . The threat ofworld communism in the
form of a state atheistic and bureaucratic collectivist world government, demonized as a Red Menace ,
therefore became the main focus of apocalyptic millenarian conspiracism.[13]
In the 1960s, right wing populist individuals and groups with a producerist worldview, such as

Consequences Of Unisciplined Children In The Veldt By Ray...
Consequences of undisciplined children Many people have witnessed a toddler having a meltdown in
public only to have a parent sooth them by giving in to the child s demand. Although sometimes this
can be a beneficial parenting technique, if a parent over indulges a child too often, then that child can
become spoiled. However in The Veldt , Ray Bradbury challenges the idea of satisfying children; he
suggests through his tragic tale of the spoiled and undisciplined children Wendy and Peter, that over
indulged kids will be taught to not value their family. Through the use of spoiling kids, harms of
technology, and conflict, Ray Bradbury shows children need to be disciplined in order to be well
rounded individuals. Bradbury uses spoiling Wendy and Peter to show they weren t well rounded, by
emphasizing that they were over indulged in materialistic wants. When parents Lydia and George
were talking, Lydia explained, They re insufferable let s admit it. They come and go when they like;
they treat us as if we were offspring. They re spoiled and we re spoiled. The description of how the
parents feel provides the reader with a better understanding that even the parents can no longer control
Wendy and Peter s disrespectful ways caused by their mistakes of spoiling the children. Bradbury
establishes the kids as so over indulged that even Lydia and George could not discipline the children if
they put their minds to it. Towards the end of the story we see that not being able to

Invention Of The Camera And How It Revolutionized History
The Invention of the Camera and How it Revolutionized History Sense the invention of the camera in
1826 photography has been used to document everything from family portraits, social injustice,
sporting events, world news, expressions of joy and sorrow, and hundreds of monumental moments.
The camera has given man the power to reveal the truth visually. Throughout history photographs
have made enormous impacts on social consciousness and ultimately shaped public opinion on many
pressing issues in society. Although photography is often considered a casual pastime, the invention of
the camera has contributed to many aspects of history, science, and other important pieces of todays
world.
Before the invention of the camera, news traveled through word of mouth, writing, telegrams, and
other forms of communication. Often times important moments were depicted through paintings, and
drawings. Unfortunately, because of opinion and misinterpretation, many of those moments, had been
depicted incorrectly. Take, for example the Boston Massacre which took place in the late 1700 s
before the invention of the camera. In order to inform people of what is now known as the shot heard
around the world, Paul Revere, a famous American revolutionist made an engraving of the scene.
People are accustomed to trusting the accuracy of historic documents, however the composition of this
the engraving contains several inaccuracies that serious researchers should be aware of. In Fact when

Solar Eclipse Research Paper
To me, theatre is a solar eclipse. Everyone knows about it. There are pictures and videos all attempting
to capture the unfathomable beauty. But, when all s said and done, it must be experienced. A recording
of a solar eclipse, just like a recording of a show, can never encapsulate the wonder from experiencing
it in person. Even though it means it s harder to access and experience theatre, it s one of the reasons I
fell in love with it.
I started engaging in theatre in sixth grade, playing a nun in the ensemble of The Sound of Music. My
mind opened to all sorts of shows, and I began listening to everything from Carousel to Little Shop of
Horrors. I joined the school s advanced theatre class and then went on to high school. In ninth grade I

inspires me transcends those experiences, as wonderful as they were. During one of my trips, I stood
on the edge of a New York City sidewalk, waiting to cross the street to get to a theater. People
surrounded me on every side except directly in front of me, where cars moved past me. Somehow, a
miracle happened for a moment, surrounded by people and cars and noise, I felt completely alone.
When I returned to reality, I thought about the millions of lives and stories contained on Manhattan
Island. It was overwhelming, yes, but it also made me realize how incredible New York City truly is
not because of its theaters or skyscrapers or parks, but because of its people. I always say that cities

The Tragedy Of A Disaster
Disaster is seen by most as a circumstance or occasion that outcomes in misfortune and mishap. In
cutting edge society, it isn t uncommon to hear people name something as inconsequential as breaking
their telephone screen a disaster. Be that as it may, disaster is more intricate. Aristotle rethinks
catastrophe through the lense of dramatization as the impersonation of an activity that is not kidding
furthermore, as having greatness, finish in itself; in fitting and pleasurable language;... in a sensational
as opposed to account shape; with occurrences exciting compassion and dread, wherewith to achieve a
purge of these feelings. Through the eyes of Aristotle, a catastrophe incorporates occasions in a play
that would bring about pathetic emotions towards the primary character, or shocking saint, to emerge
inside the group of onlookers individuals. Not just ought to the gathering of people feel a feeling of
pity, yet they ought to feel a feeling of dread amid the movement of the play for the deplorable saint
since they can suspect the sad legend s destruction before the anagnorisis. There is a typical conviction
that legends come in capes, can accomplish the unachievable, and are faultless. Aristotle challenges
that conviction with the terrible legend. To him, a lamentable saint is thought to be a person whose
difficulty emerges, not through bad habit or evil but rather by some mistake of judgment. The
heartbreaking legend is portrayed as moral and upright yet not

However, RNG is going to need to find a way to deal with Faker s large and deep champion pool, so
perhaps the best option would be a safe, comfort pick. Ezreal will be a hotly contested pick for both

Mata on Alistar is a terror of the bot lane, so it is imperative that SKT either takes it off the field, or

Analysis Of The Poem Me Talk Pretty One Day
INTRODUCTION Precis
In the essay Me Talk Pretty One Day , David Sedaris, American humorist and writer, recounts the
hysterical/hilarious story about his experience while learning French in France at the age of 41.
Sedaris develops his story providing a detailed narrative of what it is to be a foreign student in a
French school taught by a very impatient and not so encouraging French teacher. Using comic
exaggeration, Sedaris makes his essay not only quirky and bold; but interestingly appealing because it
is an entertaining portrayal of his learnings. 4TH sentence: From his hilarious, somewhat painful,
everyday experiences learning a new language, the intended audience of this essay is anyone who
have learned, or is learning, a foreign language and can relate to the struggles and difficulties that go
along with this experience. ADD THESIS STATEMENT HERE?
BODY PARAGRAPH
1. Sedaris essay is simple, incisive, and flows well. Its sarcastic, humorous tone is used across the
essay and the use of all three rhetorical appeals, pathos, logos, and ethos make it even more interesting
to read.
Ethos is clearly the most used not only because the story is based on his personal life experience, but
also by showing the unusual, painful way he starts to really understand French. Throughout the story,
he paints a vivid picture of his nerve racking interactions with the teacher and her insults.
ALTHOUGH Sedaris, like his classmates, were massacred with severe criticism from the

The Sociopath Mr. Ripley Essay
Conceptualize a world in which you have no conscience, no feelings of guilt or remorse no matter
what actions you take no sense of empathy or concern of the well being of friends, loved ones, or even
family members. This is the world of a sociopath. This is the world of Tom Ripley in Patricia
Highsmith s The Talented Mr. Ripley. Tom develops into an intelligent young man who eventually
conjures a crime spree in Europe. His driving force behind this spree, though the spree may be
sporadic, is freedom. His ability to be independent from a guilty conscience and the pleasure from
concealing a false identity (characteristics of a sociopath) are his motives behind his acquisition for
freedom. We do not know much about Tom s childhood; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Tom we see in New York is poor, intelligent, clever, and anti social. He makes his keep by
receiving monthly checks from his Aunt Dottie and gets his kick by acting as an income tax collector.
The title he receives as Collector of Internal Revenue (18) is the first notion of Tom getting off on a
false identity. While in New York he gets a break from the filthy lifestyle he s leading. The filth is
compiled of the crummy community apartment building and the roommates and residents. There they
all were, mostly Bob s lousy friends, sprawled on his bed, on the floor, everywhere... The slobs he had
thought he had left behind (34). Out of serendipitous circumstances and Tom s clever, quick
intelligence, he gains an opportunity to mold himself into a position to receive a free ride to Europe.
He plays the part of the friend of Robert (Dickie) Greenleaf while Mr. Greenleaf (Dickie s father)
becomes his audience. Tom went on, getting into the spirit of it. Dickie showed me some ship models
... Did he ever show you his frame models? Dickie hadn t, but Tom said brightly, yes! (14)
Impersonations become a constant theme. Starting with the act as an income tax collector to the act as
Roberts s friend, these impersonations escalate throughout. The attention seeking pleasure he receives
from acting out a false identity ends up not being enough. The beginning of his crime spree and
essentially his freedom can be seen in Mongibello, Italy. Not only does

An Objectivists View on a Charles Dickens´Christmas Carol...
Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol is considered by many to be a classic for all the ages, if an
objectivist point of view is used to analyse the social and political undertones of the story they will
agree with most of it, if not all of it. One of the major parts that an objectivist would agree with in A
Christmas Carol is how scrooge thinks of and how he treats the poor and infirm. Scrooge further
develops his objectivist ideology by being completely self interested in both his personal and
professional life. After Scrooge is visited by the three apparitions he is radically changed from a self
interested, objectivist, to a positive and uplifting altruist. In Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol, an

Another instant where Scrooge shows an objectivist behavior towards people poorer than he is when,
the clerk s fire is very small the clerk s fire was so very much smaller that it looked like one coal. But

came in with the shovel, the master predicted that it would be necessary for them to part. Wherefore
the clerk put on his white comforter, and tried to warm himself at the candle; in which effort, not being
a man of a strong imagination, he failed (7). Scrooge sees even the tiniest of waste or usage of
materials a meaning for dismissal, even if the usage of materials is being used to better or help out
another human. This shows Scrooges objective character because, he does not believe any materials
should be used on the poor and everything thing should only be used for his own self interest.
Expanding on Scrooges ideology of objectivism is when No beggars implored him to bestow a trifle,
no children asked him what it was o clock, no man or woman ever once in all his life inquired the way

Life Imprisonment
| LIFE IMPRISONMENT IS A GOOD ALTERNATIVE TO CAPITAL PUNISHMENT | Can life
imprisonment be a good alternative to death penalty? The issue remains unresolved. Even the US
Supreme Court that had abolished Death Penalty reversed its decision when new and less cruel
methods of execution were introduced. Why does a society punish its members for certain acts that are
offensive and unacceptable to its laws and codes? This can be a starting point of exploring our
dilemma about death penalty vs. life imprisonment. It is argued that fear of death deters people from
committing crimes, and the penalty of death exerts a positive moral influence. The American death

A person who gets caught for killing another individual is usually someone who did not plan to
murder in the first place. These individuals fall into the crimes of passion category. Crimes of passion
are defined as unlawful acts of an individual which are unplanned and erupt as a result of a fit or rage
or anger. These illegal actions usually stem from drunkenness or a short term loss of logical thinking,
which can be attributed to anger. The death penalty would logically deter crime, but the problem is
that most murderers are unplanned and are not a result of logic. During the 1930s the federal
government, under the direction of Jack Gibbs, investigated the effectiveness of the death penalty in
deterring serious crime. The results of Gibbs investigation is that capital punishment did not deter.
However, during the 1970s, Prof. Isaac Ehrlich found out through his research that capital punishment
did deter but no one else besides Ehrlich has come up with the same results. The conclusion that
researches have drawn up during the past decade is that the death penalty does not significantly have
an effect on serious crime, one way or the other. Another reason that many people are against death
penalty is that they feel that many a times innocent people are wrongfully executed, all in the name of
justice, even though there are many safeguards guaranteeing protection of the rights of those facing
death penalty.

cartel has been worn down and has fewer members since the mid 1980 s. The remaining members of
the cartel are fighting over the influence of the Mexican government and for revenge of past offenses
and betrayals. On what is known as today s Mexican Drug War.
The Tijuana Cartel was formed Felix Gallardo s nephews, Arellano Felix brothers and was tied to the
Guadalajara Cartel. The Tijuana Cartel was considered by the police in the 1990 s to be one of the
biggest and most violent criminal groups in Mexico. It had a reputation for being extremely violent.
The Tijuana Cartel was responsible for smuggling multi tons of marijuana and cocaine through the
American border into San Diego. The Tijuana Cartel had a reputation for being extremely violent.
They had also infiltrated Mexican law enforcement and judicial systems. In 2006, the Tijuana cartel
had been weakened when its high ranking member, Javier Arellano Felix, was arrested by the U. S.

troops were sent to Tijuana in an operation to restore order and weed out corrupt police officers
operating with the Tijuana cartel. As a result of this,

Rite Of Passage In The Body By Gordie Lachance
Have you ever wondered if the ordeals you went through could become a rite of passage? These
ordeals could be a big event that could change a person s entire foundation, such as marriage, or it can
be something small, like being inspired to cook because of feedback. The novella, The Body written
by Gordie Lachance, elaborates about the author s childhood where he and his friends went through an
ordeal that is a rite of passage. This ordeal was considered a journey for the boys as they believed in
the frame and glory once they found the corpse of Ray Browser, a young boy around the same age as
the author and his friends. The journey started out as an easygoing adventure, a playful type that could
be considered as an innocent boy running in the park playing tag with his buddies. However, the
journey changes into a more serious business for the author and his friends have to face many
circumstances where it becomes flight or fight situations. In the novella, Gordie reveals many insights
into the characteristics of his friends and himself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, they all believed in the idea of being famous from a corpse who was stated to be missing
on the radio. However, what they did not consider was how they would get over there and what they
would witness when observing a corpse. These boys believed that walking for miles was a plan
enough in itself. Another example is by the end of the novella when Ace s crew shows up threatening
the boys with the intent of using the corpse for their owned framed. Fortunately, in the end, Chris and
Gordie were able to force Ace s crew from getting the body. The journey has given the boys a more
thoughtful insight into the outside world molding them to be more rational about the situation rather
than recklessly running into more

Essay On Reverse Discrimination
Discrimination: treating a person or group differently when the reason is not relevant (Kaye and
Thomson). A double standard is created when a rule or regulation does not fairly apply to all groups.
An example of this is racism s double standard that has been created while trying to amend to
unfairness created by racism. These double standard are hostile to attempts of true equality due to the
harm it causes to the media/justice system create reverse discrimination, and affect college admissions
unfairly. The double standard of racism affects the media/justice system by creating racist articles that
are viewed as okay , viewing one form of racism acceptable while another not, and affecting opinions
about what if fair and what is not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One reason why this may be more effective it that young minds can be easily swayed by what may at
first seem like reliable media outlets. Also, without proper education on the topic students can easily
see discrimination as a one way act and then be intolerant but, if taught well they will now that it can
go both ways. In addition to this, instead of teens and adults trying to amend racism by creating a
double standard actual work towards equality can take

Petrochina Case Analysis
PetroChina Case Analysis The article PetroChina: International Corporate Governance with Chinese
Characteristics describes the major concerns about PetroChina s corporate governance when and after
it was listed on NYSE and HKSE, which was the first Chinese state owned enterprise launched IPO
overseas. This paper is based on the information provided by the article and will discuss in three
aspects: Firstly, why corporate governance was important for China s SOEs? Secondly, what were the
special problems associated with PetroChina s corporate governance model and what could be done to
improve it? Finally, the postscript: the things I learn from this case study. Part I Corporate governance
is important for companies all around the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So far, it looks like a draw between the Cons and Pros for investing in PetroChina, right? However,
what investor should worry was that the favorable policies or even the whole political atmosphere
might change someday, which would become a large political risk. That risk was hard to be eliminated
using portfolio diversification since China was going to become the world s 2nd largest economy and
would have enormous impact on the economy in the rest of the world. In other words, China s market
was too large for investors to avoid and if you want to use risk assets from other areas of the world to
diversify the risk from China, the weight of those assets would need to be incredibly too high.
Nevertheless, the most interesting part is that investment may be an art of counterbalance and
compromise, when you look at the tremendous market volume and brilliant prospectus of China s oil
and gasoline market. This country has the largest population of 1.3billion, the second longest
highways length of almost 100,000 kilometers and the second largest automobile population of 85
million. And it was growing in average 8% during the years. No one wants to miss the chance to
invest in a such economy. As purely international investors with less concern on political right and
wrong or environment issues, driven by profit and price of stocks

  • 2. John Keats s Poem, Ode On A Grecian Urn, And The Eve Of... Keats covered many topics in the poems he wrote during his short life but the theme of fantasy being a better alternative to reality was prominent throughout many of his works. To Keats the idea that, Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter (Urn 11 12) play a major role in his poetry, demonstrating that for him the idea of what is yet to come is far better than the actual reality of the situation. Through the narratives and stories he tells in his poems, Ode on a Grecian Urn, Ode to a Nightingale, and The Eve of St. Agnes, it is made evident that Keats would rather live in the fantasy realm of his own mind than in reality. In his poem Ode on a Grecian Urn, the fantasy that Keats feels is better than reality is displayed in the scenes decorating the urn, pictures forever frozen in time. At the beginning of stanza two Keats writes, Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/ Are sweeter (Urn 11 12). In these lines Keats is saying that the anticipation of an event or experience is far better than the actual experience itself, or rather that the reality of a situation can never truly live up to the ideal that one has had in one s mind. To Keats, the scenes displayed on the urn are so beautiful that he not only admires the artwork, he envies those on the urn because they will forever get to display the scenes of Happy happy boughs (Urn 21) and, unlike he, will never have to bid the spring adieu (Urn 22). To him the urn exemplifies the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. First Emperor Of China Essay Although he did wonderful things while he was alive, the first emperor of China was not a wonderful person. This is because of his greed, the large amount of people he executed, and his failed attempts to live forever. But who was the first emperor of China? What kind of things did he accomplish? And why do so many insist that he was a bad person? The answer lies in the Period of Warring States. Before China was unified, it was a land composed of seven independent states, they were kind of like countries. Those states were always at war for superiority. In Chinese culture, this is known as the Period of Warring States (First Emperor of China). In the midst of the Period of Warring States, a young merchant, Lu Buwei, was in need of a favor, so he traveled to the state of Qin, in the North, in seek for the prince. Once he found the Prince, named Zizhu Zheng, the merchant offered one of his mistresses in return for the favor. That mistress later became pregnant and gave birth to the future emperor of China in 259 B.C. Rumor has it that the father wasn t actually the prince, instead it was the merchant that lead his mother there, but either way, the new baby was now part of the royal family (Law of Shi Huangdi). The name given to the newborn child was Ying Zheng (Lloyd). When he was ten years old, his father became the king of Qin, and by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Analysis Of The Poem The Usns Bob Hope The USNS Bob Hope is a US Navy cargo ship named after the famous entertainer Bob Hope. It may seem odd for a naval vessel to be named after an entertainer, but what Hope did for the Navy and the military as a whole is worth the honor. Bob hope performed at hundreds of USO shows spanning 50 years. He dedicated much of his life to supporting US military efforts in the wars the country participated in between the years of 1941 1991. Although Bob Hope may not have been a great military leader like many other ships namesakes, but what Hope did shows great leadership in other less expected ways. Leslie Townes Hope was born on May 29, 1903 in Eltham, London. His family emigrated from England to the United States in 1908. Hope dropped out of school at age 16, and he tried a few different career options before he eventually landed on entertainer. He started out taking dance lessons and then working in small vaudeville shows. He started to gain some success with his partner act before he discovered that he had a talent as a master of ceremonies (MC). He then split from his partner in order to pursue this, and he was more successful as an MC. As Leslie Hope continued to gain popularity, he decided that a name like Bob had a better sound to it; from then on he was known to all as Bob Hope. In the early 40 s before the US was at war, Bob Hope performed for a radio show, and In May 1941, the producer of the show convinced Hope to record the show at a live performance in ... • 5. Social Problems Of Social Class Social classes are categories individuals are put into based on income, lifestyles, opportunities, job occupations, behaviors, and attitudes. Virtually all societies have a class system, and America is no exception. To prevent mixing of class systems Class boundaries are maintained by limiting social interaction, intermarriage, and mobility into another class (Tischler, 2014, P.181). How many social classes exist in American society is debatable, however many believe that there is only five. The five American social classes are upper class, upper middle class, middle middle class, lower middle class, and lower class. The first class is the upper class, which consist of wealthy individuals who maintain an exclusive lavish lifestyle. This class has a great influence on the majority of society s primary political and economic structures. Those in the upper class like to be separate from other classes, and do this by having, and belonging to prestigious private schools and clubs. The upper class is relatively small, It is estimated that in the United States, the upper class consist of from 1 to 3 percent of the population (Tischler, 2014, P.181). Modern day people of the upper class can be represented by entrepreneurs, such as William Gates, Warren Buffet, Mark Zuckerberg, or Larry Ellison. The next class is the upper middle class, people in this class are usually successful professional and business people as well as their families, and are just below the upper class, ... The Focal Length of Spherical Mirrors THE FOCAL LENGTH OF SPHERICAL MIRRORS Section 1: The Focal length of a concave mirror Section 2: The focal length of a convex mirror Done by: I.D: 201100635 24 Oct. 11 Section 1: To determine the focal length of a Concave Mirror by locating the centre of curvature. ABSTRACT: In this paper we want to discuss the focal point of a concave mirror by locating the centre of curvature. The focal point is a point in space at which light incident towards the mirror and travelling parallel to the principal axis will meet after reflection. The diagram at the right depicts this principle. In fact, if some light from the sun were collected by a concave mirror, then it would converge at the focal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the diagram I have drawn I ve had to exaggerate the shape of the mirror a bit to be able to use it in some of the diagrams later on, but you should be able to get the basic idea. Like a regular circle, the distance from the centre to the surface of the mirror is the radius. Focus or Focal Point (F) If an object was infinitely far away from the mirror, the light from it would converge on this one point. In the diagrams we are doing we will mostly be looking at how some light rays pass through (or appear to pass through) this focal point. The focal point is exactly in between the mirror and the centre. Since the distance between the centre and the mirror is the radius, the distance from the focal point to the mirror is half of the radius. Principle Axis The blue line is the principle axis, a line that we will use as a reference point in our diagrams. It passes through the centre and is perpendicular to the surface of the mirror. (White, 1999) There are two main rules we need to use to figure out where the image of the object will appear. All of the rules involve what a ray will do when leaves the object. Rule #1: Any ray through the focal point will reflect parallel to the principle axis (Figure 2). Light reflects off objects at all sorts of angles, and if it will help us to find where an image is, we might as well assume one ray goes right through the focus. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Simon And Garfunkel s Like A Bridge Over Troubled Water Complete But Not Finished The tune of Simon and Garfunkel s Like a Bridge over Troubled Water, one of the greatest songs of all time, whispered in my ear. I pulled the heaps of fuzzy blankets up to my chin and nestled myself in my safe haven, my private escape. I concentrated on Garfunkel s angelic voice as he sang, Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind. I was ready for my unwinding tactic, just four minutes and fifty one seconds that left me in sublime awe, and the stress was sure to disappear for a while. My exhausted eyes grew heavy, my heart defrosted, and my mind wandered... How did I become? When I was younger I had a seemingly abnormal requirement: the seam of my socks absolutely had to be precisely aligned on my toes, no lower, no higher. • 10. Being A Cheerleader Essay It was the summer of 2011. I had just graduated elementary school the month before and I was excited that I was finally going to be a middle schooler. During the summer, I received a flyer in the mail that said: Do you have what it takes to be a cheerleader? Come out to the middle school and see if the DMS Falcons is the right squad for you! I remember running eagerly to my mom and saying that I had to do this. I was a cheerleader for a short period of time in elementary school and I fell in love with the sport. My mom didn t jump at the idea, but the following week there I was, warming up in my new school gym not knowing that the next person I met would change my life forever. The coach of the cheerleading team, Crystal Lassiter, called everyone to attention and went over the rules. Throughout the week, Ms. Lassiter observed everyone and after tryouts she said that everyone would receive a phone call with the results. I waited by the phone anxiously until it was after ten PM. I was distraught. I could not help but wonder why I had been forgotten. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lassiter saying that I made the team. We practiced for a little over two hours and when we were dismissed the coach told me to stay behind. I was told that she was going to be my ride home, not only that day but for most of the season. I enjoyed the special treatment that Ms. Lassiter gave to me. Throughout my life, I haven t been the child that got everything they wanted. • 11. My Home Country Korea Has A Reputation For Its Intense... My home country Korea has a reputation for its intense education system. When I was in high school, I used to go to school at 7am, finish class at 4pm, and have self study time in school until 10pm. The main reason I needed to study that long was because of math and especially Calculus. Calculus took more than half of the math course and therefore was a crucial subject. Experiencing Korean Calculus course is not an experience most students here in Miami can have, so I would like to introduce what is what like, how it was different from MTH 151, and what I learned through the experience. First, to give a brief explanation about Korean Calculus, the material I learned was mostly the same to that of MTH 151, starting from limits to anti derivatives. However, Korean Calculus has more challenging problems than just calculations. Calculation problems are used to get a grip of the mathematical concepts, but the real problems are integrated questions. These are math questions that have mixtures of different math concepts, such as derivatives combined with matrix. In addition to the basic concepts, teachers teach advanced equations outside of textbooks that are useful when solving integrated problems and tips on solving specific hard questions that come up frequently in tests. After experiencing both Korean and American math, the biggest difference I noticed was the level of intensity. On the one hand, Korea is very harsh when it comes to math. Basically, the amount of math ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Short Story On Banana Boating BANANA BOAT! The most wonderful thing to do in the water is to go banana boating. The rush of the wind and water is worth all the times you were scared to mount the inflatable in the first place. That is, until you get off the boat. Then you realize that those things in the water is why, it is why you didn t do this yourself. Come on Rori! You chicken or what? I am not chicken, I will tell you that. But I was scared. Scared of the water activities. I was at Camp Silver Beach. My cabin was strolling into the bay. My friend Hannah Banana had plans for me and her. She planned for me to go on the banana boat with her. I heard stories of the legendary banana boats. Some didn t end well. As soon as I was about to decline Banana pushed me into the line. I decided to go with it. We walked out to the boats and mounted them slowly. The boat drivers in the front were telling us about hand signals and how to go faster. They started slow. I was the first one who put my hand up to go faster. ... It was the second day of my boating quest. Me and Banana went again. It was the same as last time. We went faster and faster, wind in my face and water on my feet. Everything was perfect. It felt like a dream. On the other hand, a small touch would make me cry for help. ... Banana looked scared of the water. She wanted out quickly. I decided to jump out and help her walk back to the sandy shore. You don t need to help me! Come off on the other side of the boat! Nonsense Banana! It soon turned onto a sting that burned my legs to a crisp. Oh my god. OUCH! Help! SUGER HONEY ICED TEA THAT HURTS! I told yo OW! So... Our cabin counselor ran over. • 16. Dna And Protein Synthesis Essay DNA and Protein Synthesis One of the most fundamental properties of any and all living organisms is that of reproduction. As we all have learned, organisms inherit their genetic information defining their structure and functions from their parents. Similarly, all cells come from preexisting cells, so the genetic information is duplicated and pass from the parent to the new cell of each division. DNA is the term that is used in biology, as well as several other parts of your everyday life. We all know that DNA is a part of our bodies, but may wonder what exactly is DNA. DNA which is also known as deoxyribonucleic acid, which is the genetic material of a cell. DNA is considered to be the molecule of life, and aides in the determination of our physical characteristics. DNA is present in all living organisms. It is said that the process of protein synthesis is controlled by the DNA molecules. Proteins are used for growth and repair, as well as enzymes. Thus, DNA is able to apply some controlling influence over the cells as a whole, and ultimately the organism as well. In DNA, the segments which hold the vital key to this process are referred to as the genes. In the early 1940 s, two American geneticists by the names of George Wells Beadle, and Edward Lawrie Tatum provided one of the first vital clues. While they were working with fungi, more specifically Nuerospora and Penicillium, they found information regarding genes and how they direct the formation of enzymes through the ... • 17. The Negative Effects Of Deforestation Introduction Trees and any plantation for that matter are often taken for granted as they provide many of the essentials such as photosynthesis regulation, habitat, food, and even save ground to build construction. However as more people demand more, more space will be needed and cutting away the trees for humans to use. Deforestation is the act of cutting and clearing a large area of trees. It is the cause of extreme damage to the ecosystem and sustainability of life. Deforestation is negatively affecting the interaction between the water cycle, soil sustainability, and trees stability. There is a chain reaction due to deforestation. Deforestation leads to decrease in biotic pump disrupting the water cycle leading to a decrease in transpiration and increase in temperature. Such rise in temperature leads to lack of rainfall to the forest and increase droughts and forest fires to which fires will disrupt the water cycle even more. Deforestation effects on Amazon forest resilience (Zemp et al. 2017) build on upon previous research done and used similar methods to collect data. Although they have come to some shortcomings such as risk of underestimating the differences introduced in evapotranspiration following deforestation, compared to study using fine scale observations over already deforested areas [Silvério et al., 2015] (Zemp et al. 2017), acknowledging that deforestation has a grave effects on the water cycle, it is expected that hydroclimate would support the effects ... The Enlightenment was a intellectual movement that brought change to the views of Christianity, the importance of reason, the understanding of nature and humanity, and the equality of man. Those of the later will be the focus of this paper. Curiosity for understanding the natural world led to new scientific exploration as well as new discoveries. The philosophical aspects of the period made their way into effecting politics from its time and on. The Age of Enlightenment began in the early 17th century and officially continued into the 18th century. The movement at the time held high praise for intellectual developments made with its roots in reason. This was so much so that the movement was also known as the Age of Reason. This basis that the world and humanity could be bettered through the application of reason spread from the influence of Greek philosophy1. Greek philosophy played a role in the development of Scholasticism, which was the questioning of scholarly Christians trying to solve new philosophical questions2. 1 The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica. I will start off each time with Wes the author. As the book opens, we have Wes remembering a day that he and his older sister, Nikki, were playing a game. Wes caught her, and not knowing what to do, punched her in the face. Joy, Wes mother, was very upset because Wes had hit a girl , and sent him to his room. Wes father calmed Joy down by saying that Wes didn t know what punching a girl like that meant. Wes father went up to speak to Wes about his behavior. As he knocked on the door and entered, he calls Wes his Main Man. The author went on to say that the memory of his father, named Westley, speaking to him after he had punched his sister, was only one of two memories he had of his father. The other memory was him watching his dad die. Westley had not been feeling well, and eventually drove himself to the hospital. The hospital staff did not know what to make of his symptoms, so for his sore throat, they numbed it for him to relieve the pain, and sent him home to rest. Later he collapsed and passed away from an acute epiglottitis. His death affected his entire family. Diabetes is a disease state that results from the body not able to use insulin or the body cannot produce enough insulin. Since there is lack of insulin in a diabetic, glucose is not able to be stored. This means that glucose remains in the body and draws water out of cells causing dehydration. Additionally, the kidneys cannot reabsorb excess glucose and it spills into urine causing an osmotic effect. The above problems mentioned lead to excessive thirst and excessive urination. In a diabetic, glucose is not able to be used as a fuel source so fatty acids and proteins are used instead. This leads to weight loss, hunger, and a loss of energy. Biochemistry did a great job at teaching us very relevant material about pharmacy. As pharmacists, we dispense a lot of vitamins so it is important to know why patients are taking them. It is also important to be able to educate them if they have any questions. This goes for diabetic patients as well. Knowing how the disease works and being able to explain it to patients is something that we have to know as pharmacists. Consequences of undisciplined children Many people have witnessed a toddler having a meltdown in public only to have a parent sooth them by giving in to the child s demand. Although sometimes this can be a beneficial parenting technique, if a parent over indulges a child too often, then that child can become spoiled. However in The Veldt , Ray Bradbury challenges the idea of satisfying children; he suggests through his tragic tale of the spoiled and undisciplined children Wendy and Peter, that over indulged kids will be taught to not value their family. Through the use of spoiling kids, harms of technology, and conflict, Ray Bradbury shows children need to be disciplined in order to be well rounded individuals. Bradbury uses spoiling Wendy and Peter to show they weren t well rounded, by emphasizing that they were over indulged in materialistic wants. When parents Lydia and George were talking, Lydia explained, They re insufferable let s admit it. They come and go when they like; they treat us as if we were offspring. They re spoiled and we re spoiled. The description of how the parents feel provides the reader with a better understanding that even the parents can no longer control Wendy and Peter s disrespectful ways caused by their mistakes of spoiling the children. Bradbury establishes the kids as so over indulged that even Lydia and George could not discipline the children if they put their minds to it. But, when all s said and done, it must be experienced. A recording of a solar eclipse, just like a recording of a show, can never encapsulate the wonder from experiencing it in person. Even though it means it s harder to access and experience theatre, it s one of the reasons I fell in love with it. I started engaging in theatre in sixth grade, playing a nun in the ensemble of The Sound of Music. My mind opened to all sorts of shows, and I began listening to everything from Carousel to Little Shop of Horrors. I joined the school s advanced theatre class and then went on to high school. But the way it inspires me transcends those experiences, as wonderful as they were. During one of my trips, I stood on the edge of a New York City sidewalk, waiting to cross the street to get to a theater. People surrounded me on every side except directly in front of me, where cars moved past me. Somehow, a miracle happened for a moment, surrounded by people and cars and noise, I felt completely alone. When I returned to reality, I thought about the millions of lives and stories contained on Manhattan Island. It was overwhelming, yes, but it also made me realize how incredible New York City truly is not because of its theaters or skyscrapers or parks, but because of its people. I always say that cities have an urban heartbeat that send sparks through me, creating inspiration. But feeling alone in New York helped me to realize that the urban heartbeat I feel is made up of the people who create the city. Truly, no place better demonstrates this effect better than New York City. I know I will keep returning there because of this effect, as it inspires me more than I can ... As for the supports, Wolf tends to favor the ranged supports such as Karma, while Mata has taken Nami multiple times. Although, what we have seen in the first game played between RNG and TSM is that Mata on Alistar is a terror of the bot lane, so it is imperative that SKT either takes it off the field, or finds a way to stop it from taking control altogether. Predictions for this match will ultimately reside in the ability of RNG to overcome the dominant force that is Faker in the mid lane. • 35. Analysis Of The Poem Me Talk Pretty One Day INTRODUCTION Precis In the essay Me Talk Pretty One Day , David Sedaris, American humorist and writer, recounts the hysterical/hilarious story about his experience while learning French in France at the age of 41. Sedaris develops his story providing a detailed narrative of what it is to be a foreign student in a French school taught by a very impatient and not so encouraging French teacher. Using comic exaggeration, Sedaris makes his essay not only quirky and bold; but interestingly appealing because it is an entertaining portrayal of his learnings. 4TH sentence: From his hilarious, somewhat painful, everyday experiences learning a new language, the intended audience of this essay is anyone who have learned, or is learning, a foreign language and can relate to the struggles and difficulties that go along with this experience. ADD THESIS STATEMENT HERE? BODY PARAGRAPH 1. Sedaris essay is simple, incisive, and flows well. Its sarcastic, humorous tone is used across the essay and the use of all three rhetorical appeals, pathos, logos, and ethos make it even more interesting to read. Ethos is clearly the most used not only because the story is based on his personal life experience, but also by showing the unusual, painful way he starts to really understand French. Throughout the story, he paints a vivid picture of his nerve racking interactions with the teacher and her insults. The Sociopath Mr. Ripley Essay Conceptualize a world in which you have no conscience, no feelings of guilt or remorse no matter what actions you take no sense of empathy or concern of the well being of friends, loved ones, or even family members. This is the world of a sociopath. This is the world of Tom Ripley in Patricia Highsmith s The Talented Mr. Ripley. Tom develops into an intelligent young man who eventually conjures a crime spree in Europe. His driving force behind this spree, though the spree may be sporadic, is freedom. His ability to be independent from a guilty conscience and the pleasure from concealing a false identity (characteristics of a sociopath) are his motives behind his acquisition for freedom. Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol is considered by many to be a classic for all the ages, if an objectivist point of view is used to analyse the social and political undertones of the story they will agree with most of it, if not all of it. One of the major parts that an objectivist would agree with in A Christmas Carol is how scrooge thinks of and how he treats the poor and infirm. Scrooge further develops his objectivist ideology by being completely self interested in both his personal and professional life. After Scrooge is visited by the three apparitions he is radically changed from a self interested, objectivist, to a positive and uplifting altruist. Even the US Supreme Court that had abolished Death Penalty reversed its decision when new and less cruel methods of execution were introduced. Why does a society punish its members for certain acts that are offensive and unacceptable to its laws and codes? This can be a starting point of exploring our dilemma about death penalty vs. life imprisonment. It is argued that fear of death deters people from committing crimes, and the penalty of death exerts a positive moral influence. A person who gets caught for killing another individual is usually someone who did not plan to murder in the first place. These individuals fall into the crimes of passion category. Crimes of passion are defined as unlawful acts of an individual which are unplanned and erupt as a result of a fit or rage or anger. These illegal actions usually stem from drunkenness or a short term loss of logical thinking, which can be attributed to anger. The death penalty would logically deter crime, but the problem is that most murderers are unplanned and are not a result of logic. During the 1930s the federal government, under the direction of Jack Gibbs, investigated the effectiveness of the death penalty in deterring serious crime. The results of Gibbs investigation is that capital punishment did not deter. However, during the 1970s, Prof. Isaac Ehrlich found out through his research that capital punishment did deter but no one else besides Ehrlich has come up with the same results. The conclusion that researches have drawn up during the past decade is that the death penalty does not significantly have an effect on serious crime, one way or the other. Another reason that many people are against death penalty is that they feel that many a times innocent people are wrongfully executed, all in the name of justice, even though there are many safeguards guaranteeing protection of the rights of those facing death penalty. ... However, what investor should worry was that the favorable policies or even the whole political atmosphere might change someday, which would become a large political risk. That risk was hard to be eliminated using portfolio diversification since China was going to become the world s 2nd largest economy and would have enormous impact on the economy in the rest of the world. In other words, China s market was too large for investors to avoid and if you want to use risk assets from other areas of the world to diversify the risk from China, the weight of those assets would need to be incredibly too high.
