Madame Bovary Style Analysis
A day of a common doctor, Charles Bovary, is described in Gustave Flaubert s passage from Madame
Bovary. The author uses great detail to show the reader the typical house call in 1902. Due to this
detail, the author establishes the tones of calmness and intensity. Throughout the passage from
Madame Bovary, the tones established through detail, imagery and figurative language reveal the
character of Charles to the reader. The detail in the beginning of the passage allows the reader to feel a
serene and calm tone. The woman with the blue dress with three flounces welcomes Charles into her
home with a big open fire , just as the first rays of sun peaks through the windows. This allows the
reader to feel the serenity of a typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also shows Charle s attentiveness and attention to detail. In the moments of calm, after the man s
fracture had been dealt with and healed, Charles takes a moment to really study Mademoiselle Emma
s eyes and hands. The imagery in this section makes it possible for the reader to see Emma as Charles
sees her and to understand the quiet peacefulness of the section. Flaubert also establishes an intense
tone in his passage. When Charles first meets the patient sweating under the blanket and cursing , he
sees a large decanter of brandy that the patient had been drinking to dull the pain and remain strong .
The pain was so overwhelming for the patient that he had to drink to overcome the pain and curse to
gain strength. This provides an intense tone because the reader senses the pain the man is in from the
descriptions of the man, and his surroundings. Charles realizes that the finest thing about her was her
eyes, the way that they draw him in and appear black under the long eyelashes and have a fearless
candor to them. The detail here represents an intensity shown between Charles and Mademoiselle
Emma because Charles in drawn in by the deep darkness of Emma s eyes and finds them intriguing
dark and beautiful. Charles also realizes that even

The Emergence Of Spoken Language
The emergence of Spoken Language
Language shapes the way we think, and determines what we can think about, says Benjamin Lee
Whorf. Indeed, the significance of language in most societies regardless of the language.
Communication has become an essential part of people s daily lives. However, have you ever asked
yourself how the early hominids or our early ancestors were communicating? Did they even have a
language? Scholars have tried to come up with different theories about how the first spoken language
emerged. It is impossible to imagine a cultural occurrence that is more significant than the emergence
of language. It is like ignoring the Age of Enlightenment, which is the period when cultural and social
changes occurred emphasizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The evidence conclusively implies that humans were created with the unique ability to employ speech
for communication.
An article written by Lemonick (1994:80 87) in Time magazine titled How man began states, No
single, essential difference separates human beings from other animals. Most scientific scholars
acknowledge that communication by speech is exclusively a human ability. Therefore, it is one of the
ability that is often used as the unique, and most important, dividing line between humans and
animals. In his book, Eve Spoke, Philip Lieberman (1998:5) claims, Speech is so essential to our
concept of intelligence that its possession is virtually equated with being human. Animals who talk are
human, because what sets us apart from other animals is the gift of speech.
In The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Human Evolution, three editors Jones, Martin, and Pilbeam
(1999:128) agree, There are no non human languages and observed, language is an adaptation unique
to humans, and yet the nature of its uniqueness and its biological basis are notoriously difficult to
define. In his book, The Symbolic Species: The Co Evolution of Language and the Brain, Terrance
Deacon (1997:25) could not agree when he writes, In this context, then, consider the case of human
language. It is one of the most distinctive behavioral adaptations on the planet. Languages evolved in

Acromegaly
I. Introduction The human body contains various structures and organs that allow regulations and
maintenance of homeostasis. Foundation is built through the framework of the skeletal system, motion
is possible due to the muscular system humans have and other body systems that allow humans to
perform daily actions. All of this anatomical structures are possible due to the two main controlling
system found in the body; the nervous system and endocrine system. The nervous system can be
considered as information processor of the human body, but for it to be more effective in transferring
and processing information; it works in tandem with the endocrine system. The purpose of the
endocrine system is to act in response to the information the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Topic Hormone Growth hormone or somatotropin is the hormone involved in the disorder of
acromegaly. Produced by somatotrophs in the anterior pituitary gland, it functions as a metabolic
hormone and determinant of body size. Growth hormones functions mainly on growth effects but it
also has other aiding purpose in different parts of the body such as mobilization of fats, blood level
increase, glycogen breakdown and more. The chemical nature of this hormone is protein based, hence
the name somatotropin. It is originally made in the hypothalamus where it is secreted, then passes
through the anterior pituitary gland before it enters the bloodstream. It is regulated through negative
feedback, inhibiting the release of growth hormones when the amount in the bloodstream is high
already. In terms of target tissues, it is very general, pretty much all the bone structure and most of the
muscular system is affected by the growth hormone. It also has a very short half life, ranging from
twenty to thirty minutes. Typically, growth hormones are secreted the most during sleep; however, it
decreases with age. Growth hormones cannot be naturally conjugated due to its own ability to inhibit
its release when it is too much in the body already. IV. Mechanism of Action Normal Effect of Growth
Hormone The release of growth hormone in the body is due to two hormones that has antagonistic
effects found in the hypothalamus. Growth hormone releasing hormone or GHRH activates

To say that African descended populations and cultures have been erased is not an unreasonable
statement because the moment Africans were enslaved and taken from their home country they were
taught a false history, in which their past was not filled with kingship but with destitution. For
example, in Marcus D. Jones excerpt Africa in Mexico, Jones states, Moreover, like the people of
Coyolillo, the majority of the inhabitants of the coastal communities south of the City of Veracruz
have even forgotten or perhaps were never taught the country s colonial past, when enslaved Africans
were brought directly from Africa to Mexico (Jones). Thus, many Mexican people don t realize that
they are in fact from African decent. If the people of Mexico were taught of their past it would answer
various question regarding the ancestors of not only Spanish, Asian, and Indigenous but also African.
Ultimately, under colonial rule, Mexican society was divided into a system of social classes where

Congo Rebellion Essay
Fighting between the government and the Tutsi, Mobutu s state of emergency, and the swearing in of
Laurent Kabila s son as president after Laurent s murder were major events in the Congo Wars.
Dangerous fighting and rebellions in close proximity to towns made civilians and refugees move. As
these rebellions started closing in on major cities, Mobutu Sese Seko declared a state of emergency
giving the military (and himself) more power. During the next war, President Laurent Kabila was shot
and his son was sworn in. Dangerous fighting between the corrupt Congolese army and Tutsi rebels in
October 1996 forced Rwandan refugees and civilians out of their camps and homes, respectively.

(Congo, the Democratic Republic of). This state of emergency, Mobutu s last ditch effort at staying in
power, signifies the beginning of the decline of the first war. The end of this war also brought a new
leader, President Laurent Kabila. Rebellions started up again only a few months after Kabila had
become president. Soon after, he was assassinated by one of his bodyguards on January 16, 2011 and
his son Joseph Kabila was sworn in. The new President Joseph Kabila met with the South African and
French Presidents, the US secretary of state, and the United Nations secretary general in January 2001
in an effort to bring peace to the Congo. Kabila also met with the Rwandan president, Paul Kagame,
who supported rebels in the east of the Congo. In February 2001, Kabila made concessions to Rwanda

Congo. (Q R: DR Congo). UN troops arrived in March 2001 and confirmed that all of the warring
parties were pulling back. (Congo, the Democratic Republic

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Sign Language
As most sign language users are untrained in reading notation systems there is need to presentoutput
of a translation in a Sign Language space. Morrissey (2008) and Othman and Jemni(2011) applied the
technique of translation into a writing notation in their systems. Two mainoptions have been made of
use in sign language synthesis. The first main method of sign language synthesis is to use concatenated
recordings of videos toproduce the sequence of gestures required. Recordings of a signer perfoming
gestures are storedand retrieved in some form of storage system. This approach has the advantage of
providingmore lifelike signing comparable to what one would experience in real life. Also the

Chuang et al(2006) proposes a method that searchesthrough the collection of video clips and
calculates the most suitable transition betwwen thejoining sign clips. The method makes use of a non
uniform rational B spline approach for theclip selection. One fault in making use of this method is due
the need for a large database ofclips so as to come up with the best possible transition movements
between signs. Also theprocess involving the selection makes the overall system take a huge
perfomance hit. Solina etal(2001) proposes a system where each of the video clips in the database has
the same start andend position. in this case, it is suggested that the signer starts and ends the sign at the
sameposition at the with both arms on the chest of the signer s body. Thus in joining clips

resultantvideo would result in an unnatural siging sentence even though there is smmoth

Chinese Culture and How It Relates to Nursing Care
Understanding what culture is and how it affects the nursing practice is essential to ensure the best
possible and appropriate care is given. All cultures are different, and what may be acceptable for one
could be an insult to another. Potter and Perry (2017) define culture as being associated with norms,
values, and traditions passed down through generations (p. 102). However, this is not the only
definition since there are many different views on what culture entails. Because of the vastness of
cultural groups, it is important that nurses have cultural competence, a good grasp of the patient s
specific cultural needs and beliefs, and the ability to alter their day to day routine to achieve ... Show

TCM practitioners look for underlying imbalances and disharmonies behind an illness to try and treat
the patient, instead of just the disease ( Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2017). Chinese practices, such
as acupuncture and herbal treatments, have become very popular in the Western world over the last
few decades. These practices are derived from the beliefs of Qi (pronounced chee) and Yin and Yang,
which involve energy and balance. Qi, or life energy, is a central belief in TCM and is believed to flow
through a number of channels, or meridians, throughout the body ( Traditional Chinese Medicine,
2017). The meridians are different organ systems in the body, and are categorized into yin organs and
yang organs. The terms yin and yang are derived from the Chinese belief that all things have two
aspects... and that ...a balance of yin and yang are necessary for health ( Traditional Chinese Medicine,
2017). Essentially, the relationship of yin and yang is like two sides of the same coin; opposite, but
they balance each other out. Yin is associated with qualities that are feminine, dark, passive, and
usually symbolized by earth or water, while yang is associated with qualities that are masculine, light,
active, and usually symbolized by air or fire ( Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2017). These beliefs are
what drive TCM and must be understood

The Difference of Warfare between World War 1 and World War 2
World War Warfare was one of the greatest examples of technological advancement and strategic
challenge, with the introduction of inventions such as the aircraft and the tank the battlefield
transformed from attrition as scene in the early years of the war to decisive by the end of the war.
Naval Warfare
World War 1
While the naval war is usually known for only little attention in histories of World War I, the Royal
Navy s blockade of Germany played a dangerous role in the War. The U.S. Navy linking with the
Royal Navy played a significant role in overcoming the German U boats in the North Atlantic. The
Germany Navy while technically effective disastrously diminished the German war effort. Germany s
building of a High Seas Fleet was one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Afterwards the Japanese strike on Pearl Harbor, the US joined the clash. With them, they brought
potentially substantial naval resources, along the great Royal Navy. However, the war in the Pacific
relied heavily on US naval attendance which in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor had seen the US fail to
keep a number of battleships. So, naval warfare in WW2 had many innovations. The aircraft carrier
was the most noteworthy and became the most potent naval assets which the Allies gained an
increasing monopoly in. However, submarines were also deadly in Europe and the Pacific against
merchant and supply ships. The human torpedoes of the Italian Malali were possibly the most
innovative, and were also effective enough to influence the Royal Navy to research human torpedoes
themselves.
Air Warfare
World War 1
At the start of World War One bomb aiming was crude in the extreme. The pilot or co pilot if the
aircraft carried two people simply dropped a small bomb over the side of the aircraft in the general
direction of a target. If a bomb dropped anywhere near a target it was through good luck more than
anything else. By the end of the war aircraft that could be recognized as long range bombers had been
developed. Much larger than fighters, and far less maneuverable, their task was very specific to carry
to a target as many bombs as was feasible and to drop them on said target with a degree of accuracy.

Surface Hardening of Cams for Venture Consulting
Introduction
Dean and Triana s invention is running into trouble when it is used continuously for long periods of
time because the cams are too soft, resulting in wear and misalignment in the invention. They already
have all of the cams, so switching materials is not an option, so we must find a way to harden the
surface of the cams to reduce wear. The cams are made of 1020 steel, which has a hardness of 111 HB,
and only has 0.20% carbon, classifying it as a low carbon steel. For this reason we recommend that
carburization be utilized to increase the carbon composition at the surface, and thus increase the
surface hardness. This occurs because the presence of carbon interstitially diffused ... Show more

Interstitial diffusion is the specific type of diffusion that will be going on. Interstitial diffusion
typically involves one substance with much smaller atoms than the substance it is moving into, and the
small atoms will move in between larger atoms in the lattice structure. We know that the radius of
Carbon is 67 pm or 67*10 12 m and the radius of radius of Iron is 156 pm or 156*10 12 m. Carbon
atoms are 89 picometers smaller in radius than Iron atoms. Carbon atoms are considerably smaller
than Iron atoms as they are smaller than half the size of iron atoms. Because of the small size of
carbon, it will enter the iron crystal structure through interstitial diffusion.
The Governing Equation for this diffusion is (C Co)/(Cs Co)=1 erf[ x/(2*(Dt)1/2)] .
This an equation for a non steady state diffusion process that has been derived from Fick s Second
Law which describes how atoms diffuse initially at a non steady state and has been described in:
Diffusion can be used for this problem because of the carburization process that will strengthen the
steel cams. Carburization is a process in which our steel cams will be heat treated in a high carbon
environment. What will be going on during this heat treatment, is the carbon in the atmosphere will be
diffusing into the cams through interstitial diffusion. The heat in the environment facilitates the
diffusion. The carbon diffuses from

The Factors and Objectives The Russo Japanese War
1. The Russo Japanese War began on February 8, 1904 and lasted until 5 September, 1905. The
majority of the conflict was conducted within the region of Manchuria, however, several naval battles
occurred within the Yellow Sea as well as in Tsushima Strait (the sea area between the southeastern
Korean Peninsula and the southwestern portion of Japan).
2. The principle parties in this war were the Russian and Japanese Empires. While various aspects of
the Chinese Empire played their roles in the lead up to the conflict they did not, however, side with
either of the two warring Empires during the war. Russia did have an alliance of sorts with France and
Germany, however, this advantage in numbers was negated due to Japan s formal alliance with Great
Britain, who declared support for Japan should a third party become involved in a conflict.
3. The main theme for the context of this war was Russian and Japanese simultaneous determination
to develop spheres of influence in eastern Asia, primarily within the nation of China and specifically
within the region of Manchuria. This sense of determination found Meiji Japan fighting the Chinese
Qing Dynasty during the Sino Japanese War over control of Korea, which was a Chinese tributary
state. This war lasted from 1894 1895 and concluded with the signing of the Treaty of Shimonoseki.
Within the terms of the treaty, China recognizing the independence of Korea and ceded the Liaodong

Paiute Indians Research Paper
On Friday, September 11, 1857, 120 emigrants were killed or massacred in southern Utah by
Mormons and Paiute Indians on their way from Arkansas to California. They were part of the Baker
Fancher wagon train. Many of the emigrants were from Marion, Crawford, Carroll, and Johnson
counties. They started their journey around Boone County in April of 1857 with their leader, who had
been to California twice before leading the Baker Fancher wagon train. About forty families met at
Beller s Stand. After they left Arkansas, the emigrants of the Fancher party traveled through Kansas
and Nebraska before entering Utah. They passed Fort Bridger and Salt Lake City before making it to
Cedar City. Mountain Meadows is a valley about 35 miles away from Cedar City, where the emigrants
were massacred.
Sometime in July in Cedar City, the emigrants tried to buy some grain but the local Mormons refused
because they didn t know if the emigrants were an enemy or not. After the emigrants left Cedar City,
frustrated because the Mormans wouldn t give them the supplies they needed, they took a path through

Liberty And Justice For All
Liberty and Justice for All?
Behind this mask there is more than just flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea... and ideas are
bulletproof. V (1988). An inspiring and truthful quote on the sheer immorality of a mindset and ideals.
While this quote is meant to speak for the good and righteous things humans stand for to protect their
liberties and freedoms , this quote brings to light a sad and dark truth. That creeds of hate, creeds that
are only satisfied by the degradation of thy neighbor and implosion of any societal progress humanity
has made since The Emancipation Proclamation outlawed slavery in the US in 1865, will never be
destroyed or ever truly broken down. These criminal unnatural acts against humanity, performed by
both notorious hate groups and everyday citizens, have been tearing at the moral and social fiber of
this once proud nation for years. If the federal government does not intervene and take a far more
aggressive stance against these crimes and misdeeds, then these vile acts will diminish any hope left
for social redemption into idealistic dust.
Before fully diving into these terrible and unbelievable crimes, it must be stated that from this point on
that there is no such things as an innocent joke or It was taken out of context. There is only black and

centuries to obtain, yet will never accomplish. Now, with that being said, into point 1. On June 17,

Child Marriage Is A Growing Problem
Most girls dream of their wedding from a very young age, from meticulously planning each detail to
fantasizing about walking down the aisle. But, for many girls across the world, their wedding day is
something to dread. In many cases, these girls are forced to marry men much older than themselves,
sometimes even by three or four decades. The International Center for Research on Women defines
child marriage as, a formal marriage or informal union before age 18 (np), and although rarely
mentioned, child marriage is a growing problem worldwide. The United Nations Populations Fund
states, In developing countries, one in every three girls is married before reaching age 18. One in nine
is married under age 15 (unfpa.org). Young brides who are put in this terrible situation face
tremendous mental and physical risks and often die from the abuse they receive from their husband.
The following paper will highlight the oppression young brides face including first hand stories,
female genital mutilation, and health consequences across the Middle East and Eastern Asia. To begin
with, child marriages are very common in impoverished countries where most girls are viewed as an
unneeded expense and parents often desire to get them out of the house as soon as possible. In which
case, many girls do not receive an education, which is very beneficial. Many parents also believe that
marrying their daughters young is profitable to them, as it prevents rape from unmarried men and will

The Major Impact Of The Mexican-American War
Introduction The conflict that started in 25th April 1846 up to 2nd February 1848 between America
and Mexico was termed as the Mexican American War and had a significant to both nations. The
reason for the commencement of the war was due to Manifest Destiny, a populist belief that
Americans had a divine right to the land and so enjoyed the freedom to expand their borders towards
the Pacific Ocean. The conflict, which was due to the exact position to place the border for each
country affected mainly the natives. Although both countries actively participated in the war, there
were individuals in America who were against it among them being Henry David Thoreau, an
American writer and philosopher. Those against the war claimed that the United States actions in the
war were unethical.
Thesis: The close to two year long Mexican American war had a major impact to both countries as it
affected the natives by redefining their rights and responsibilities when Mexico lost much of its land
to the US.

Mexico protected itself through constant guerilla attacks on the American supply chains. After the fall
of Mexico City, peace negotiations began when the Mexican government surrendered. On 2nd

an end (Cukwurah, 60). In the treaty, 525000 miles were added to the US territory as Mexico stopped
its claim on Texas. Rio Grande became officially the US Mexico border while the US had to pay $15
million to Mexico. The treaty helped in stopping Mexican causalities that were increasing at an
alarming rate. Whereas many Americans view the conflict as just war, many Mexicans feel that the
war was an American invasion of their land. The decision to use Military intervention by the US

Drive Hunting in the Oceans
Every year tens of thousands of marine mammals are killed all over the world, with over twenty
thousand small cetaceans killed in Japanese waters alone (Butterworth et al., 2013). These small
cetaceans include various species of small whales, many dolphin species and some porpoises. They
are killed in various manors, ranging from accidental ship strikes to the more morally controversial
yearly drive hunts. As you may know nearly all cetaceans use some sort of sound production in order
to navigate waters, communicate with other individuals and groups of their respective species as well
as capture prey (Brownell et al., 2008). An example of this is the variety sounds produced by
bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) when exploring and foraging. These types of noises vary
from echolocation, whistles and pops according to Nowacek (2005) which aid in location of prey, and
communication when hunting in groups. Bottlenose dolphins are one of the most well known cetacean
species (Bearzi et al., 2008). They inhabit various marine habitats across the world including just
about any region with a warm temperate to tropical ocean climate (Reeves et al., 2002). Just like many
other cetaceans they are well known for inhabiting coastal areas, which makes them particularly
vulnerable to human interaction and threats they wouldn t necessarily face on the coast of uninhabited
lands (Wilson et al., 2008). This use of sound is an extraordinary adaption for life under the sea, unless

The Bone Marrow
The bone marrow is layers of tissue found inside bones, made up of specialised cells called
megakaryocytes which have the responsibility of producing thrombocytes(platelet) (6). The main role
of platelets is the formation of blood clots to prevent excessive bleeding which can have dangerous
complexities on health. Thrombocytes work on a specific layer called the endothelium made up of
simple, squamas cells called endothelial cells. The function of the endothelium is to act as a semi
permeable barrier, assist in vasoconstriction/dilation and help in thrombosis. When this layer is
damaged, blood can rapidly escape, in that case platelets form bonds with protein fibres. By binding

Enteric coating is made up of many tightly bound cellulose fibres. This coating is designed to be pH
dependant and prevents dissolution or release of the drug. This is to prevent it interacting with the
body at those regions especially the stomach. Aspirin is particularly harmful to the stomach because of
the impact it has on prostaglandin production. Prostaglandins have numerous functions one of which
is a process called cytoprotection. (10) Cytoprotection reduces HCL production from the parietal cells
and stimulate alkaline mucus production needed for neutralisation, which are necessary to protect the
mucosa from damage caused by gastric juices and acids. Furthermore, prostaglandin help dilates
vessels to increase the volume of blood flow to the stomach, in turn increasing rate of repair and
renewal of cells and as importantly carrying away acids from the stomach which can damage the
mucosa lining (11). Therefore, by preventing prostaglandin production, the gastric acids can continue
to attack the mucosa lining and this can lead to excessive bleeding enhanced by the anti platelet
properties of aspirin which further prevent clotting or even form ulcers. Problems with a bleeding

Mallinson and Scottish Australian Investment Co Ltd where an employee tried to recover in the New

The second argument concluded from BP Refinery Pty Ltd v Shire of Hastings is that it is not
necessary to imply a term in the form of c11(a) for reasonable or effective contract of employment in
all circumstances.
The third argument should be implied because that terms may be implied through custom/trade usage
where term may sometimes be implied by reason of established custom which includes established

argument that the term be imported into the contract.

Analysis Of Black Diggers In The Longest Memory
The historical fiction novel the longest memory set in the 18th century depicts a character
Whitechapel , an elderly slave working at a plantation, in Virginia. Whitechapel, unlike other slaves is
treated with more respect from the white individuals in the novel and accepts the treatment inflicted
on him by the white men, stating that if he acts with respect then receive good treatment. However,
towards the ending of the novel it is prevalent that he desires for things to change following the death
of his beloved son Chapel . The black diggers in the play black diggers set in 1914 Australia, are
similarly treated in an inhumane manner by white men. The black diggers desire for change in this
area and therefore enlist to fight for Australian in the first world war. They long that when they will
return, the inhumane treatment they received will no longer be, however, they faced further scrutiny
by the white Australian society upon their return.
A strong desire for change is evident in both the texts, and as a result many characters in both Black
Diggers and the longest memory put their lives at risk. The black digger s main motivation to enlist to
fight for Australian in the war was to seek change in the way which the white Australian population
treated them. Whilst at war the indigenous Australians were treated as equals, the colour of their skin
was not recognized, as stated by a white solider that informs Harry that he will have a drink with him

The Sniper Theme Essay
What a cruel thing is war : to separate and destroy families and friends... Robert E. Lee. This quote
relates to The Sniper, because it explains how the sniper killed his brother. It separated and destroyed
his family because he shot his brother. He thought his brother was the enemy even though he wasn t.
The Sniper the short story by Liam O Flaherty, starts off with the sniper patrolling the surrounding
area he is in. Then he decides to take a smoke and a bullet flies past him. After his last smoke he gets
hit in the right forearm. Then he thinks of a plan to kill the other shooter. He drops his rifle off the roof
making the other shooter think he is dead. The sniper then fires a long distant shot. The shooter slowly
falls to the ground and dies. He then goes and looks into the dead shooters face and sees his brother.
The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty believes that duty and sadness is always a part of war.
The theme is first introduced when the sniper is patrolling the area around him while on the top of the
roof, doing his duty as a soldier. The sniper decides to have a smoke even though he could risk being

The theme first emerges when the sniper is patrolling the area around him. The theme is refined
because it explains that meaning of the story in one sentence. The theme is fully developed by the end
because the sniper was doing his duty by killing the person he thought was his enemy and there was
sadness because he killed his own brother without knowing it. The author included the theme of duty
because in war duty is essential. The soldiers have to do their duty or else they will not win the war
they are fighting. The story shows that war has and will always have duty involved in it as well as
sadness, because people will kill each other even if they know the person, they are willing to kill them

Motor Vehicle Safety Essay
Problem Statement:
Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and are the leading
cause of death in children aged 13 and under [1]. In 2015, 220 per one million children under the age
of 4 were involved in fatal motor vehicle accidents [1]. In addition to motor vehicle accidents,
improper uses of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in cars are known to cause an increased risk of
injury. Targeting the specific aspect of children being incorrectly fastened to their car seats could
possibly prevent injuries and/or deaths due to motor vehicle accidents. These deaths are a topic of
concern due to that fact that children need more protection in vehicles than adults do. According to
PennDOT, children under age four must be securely fastened in a federally approved child passenger
restraint system (CRS) [2]. However, there are multiple studies and statistics that show that many
families do not know how to correctly use a child car seat. A Canadian study, which observed more
than 13,000 children, noted that approximately only 90% were using car seats. Of these, only 60%
were using the correct type of car seat, with only 20% of those aged four to eight years old using
booster seats [3]. A Manitoba study found that approximately 70% 80% of families are using their ...

Often, the improper use of the car seat is a result of parental error when strapping the child in, which
results in errors such as the straps being too slack or too tight, and the buckle of the harness not being

children into their child restraint

How Anions Take Electrons
Cations take electrons so they are shown as a rectangle with an indent which symbolizes a slot for an
electron to be taken. If they require multiple electrons to be given to them, they are shown as a
rectangle with multiple indents, one for each needed electron. Anions give electrons so they are shown
as a rectangle with a tab which symbolizes an extra electron that they want to give away. If the anion
have multiple electrons to give away it is shown as a rectangle with multiple tabs on it, one for each
electron to give away. The tabs from the anions would fit into the indent of the cations and it would
form a rectangle with no tabs or indents as they have no more electrons to giveaway and does not have
the need to take any more. If there are tabs on the piece of paper, it must be a cation (giving off a
negative charge). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The positive charge from the anions matches the negative charge of the cations. This caused the
charge to become neutral, having no negative charge and no positive charge. This relates to the
chemical formula because for example if a cation has a negative charge of two, it either needs an
anion with a positive charge of two or, two anions with a positive charge of one. Cation s do not
change names from the original element while occasionally having a roman numeral in parentheses to
signify the higher oxidation number. Anions include the ide suffix. Not all metals have the roman

The Women s Liberation Movement In The United States
The Women s Liberation Movement also known as feminism, has impacted the past and present
United States in numerous ways. The Movement and has continued since 1848 and is still going
strong today. It has grown in each decade, gaining many followers and still helps women even now .
The Women s Liberation Movement has helped women gain more respect, rights to her body, and
equality in the workplace. Every human, male or female should support the movement. As a result of
the movement, women have been gaining rights from feminism for over a thousand years. The
Feminist Movement officially started in Seneca Falls at the first Women s convention. Where they
fought for the right to vote, even though it took over 70 years for women to get the opportunity. The
people who participate in the movement fought for numerous rights for women, like voting, birth
control, and equality in the workplace(Simon). Without millions the of people supporting, Women
wouldn t be treated or have the same rights they do today. That s why it s still so important to support
feminism because if no one does all the hard work of the women in the past would go to waste. ...

Cold Blood By Truman Capote, A Cold Blooded Killer
Without the basic necessities such as water and sunlight, a flower will not bloom into a beautiful,
colorful creation, but rather wilt into a brown, unrecognizable mess. Just like a flower needs water and
sunlight to thrive, a child requires support from a guardian to prosper in every aspect. A secure support
system t in a child s life creates healthy relationships as well as providing the child with a positive
perspective and mindset. However in the lives of Perry Smith, a cold blooded killer in the novel In
Cold Blood by Truman Capote, child soldiers, and the children of the street, support from the family is
seldom displayed. The absence of support leads these persons to lives filled with hostility and
violence; lives of adversity. This goes to show, the absence of support from a parent figure or family
unit has negative impacts on a child s lifestyle.
Throughout numerous areas around the globe, the reality of children living on the street has become a
significant issue. This problem is mainly due to the family s inability to provide adequate care and
resources for their child, Children end up on the streets for a number of reasons, many of which are
rooted in family instability and poverty, (The Children of the Street). Instead of worrying about what
games to play or who to play with, these adolescents have to worry about what they will eat for the
day or where they will sleep for the night. Children who have ended up on the streets are forced to

Television, Television And Public Places
1a. It is very important to draw comparison between the internet, library, television and public places
as a result of the fact the internet can also be considered or viewed as a public place where information
can be obtained freely at any point in time, and this makes it very important to know what the law says
about this disseminating information to the general public with respect to the first amendment.
Looking at this various medium i.e libraries, television and public places and what the law stipulates
according to the United State constitution the first amendment expressly forbids against depriving
citizens their right to freedom of speech, of press, right to assemble and petition the government. But
in this case emphasis is placed on the freedom of speech. The entire medium stated above has
differences between them and the difference between them how the freedom of speech law applies to
each one of them, for example the library consist of various material including the press, which has
been granted lots flexibility when it comes to freedom of speech been the oldest media but the content
available in the library is still controlled by the owner of the library so that it does not infringe on any
law. Likewise the television the government has set up various body to control what is being aired to

We decided to delve deeper into the realm of physical theatre for our devised creative adaptation. The
main reason for this was our success in unit 2 were we used Frantic Assembly, an innovative physical
theatre group, as a Practitioner. We now want to work on the basics that we learned last year but also
extend our skills to more challenging and advanced physical movements and sequences. Now that the
shackles are off we are interested to look into other physical theatre practitioners such as PUSH who
use a much more a Dance weighted style of physical theatre which is evident from watching their
promos of tight pants and kung fu on their website. Another group that we looked at are Volcano

As a group we chose 1 to work on whilst creating freeze frames during 3 significant moments from
the performance. In these 3 tableaux s we made a character who was an embodiment of death. We
loved this as an idea and continued to devise around this theme until we had the skeleton of a
performance.
Like frantic assembly we wish to make thrilling, energetic and unforgettable theatre like that we have
seen in their performances of Beautiful Burnout, Othello and Blackwatch. These Frantic shows have
been a big inspiration to us in many ways. When we saw Beautiful burnout live we were in awe of the
pace, energy that flowed through the performance. We were also given the idea of having a mentor
and mentee in our performance from Frantic. Blackwatch inspired us in our flashback scene in which
we act as soldiers from the grandfathers past. It also showed us how people act in the proximity of
death.
As an ensemble our dramatic intentions are to shock and excite the audience with a mixture of
impressive and dynamic physical sequences. We also intend to move the audience and make them
reconsider their life. We intend to do this by writing deep and meaningful words at emotional
moments of the play but also by doing slower, more heartfelt sequences to draw the audience.

The Past And Present Defining Characteristics Of The Sami...
Evidence suggests human presense in parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and even Russia over 9,000
years ago (Joessefson, 142). However, it would not be until thousands of years later that a highly
unique and successful tribe would form, known as the Sami. While many Sami have assimilated into
modern European culture, central traits still exists within this indigiouns group native to the Sapmi
region. Some Sami still practice modes of subsistence, systems of marriage, kinship, social
organization, and religion common to their ancestors. However, today, the Sami are faced with social
issues distinct from those of their predesesors, such as pressures to conform to modern society,
economic struggles, and in some cases, loss of community. It is important to evaluate both the past
and present defining characteristics of the Sami peoples to fully understand their culture. One of the
most well known characterisitics of the Sami is their skill in reindeer pastoralism. Though, pastoralism
was not their initial mode of substiance, instead, the Sami began as a hunter gatherer society. As
northern Europe is subject to extreme and lengthy winters, the Sami caught and harvested what they
could. Beaver, reindeer, and fish were among the most commonly hunted by the Sami (Bergman, other

diet (Loeffler, 70). As well, geographical positioning distinguished the diets of some Sami bands

Everyone remembers their first ride on a roller coaster, an experience of terror, joy and excitement, as
you tower over amusement parks going through curves and loops. From wooden wonders and steel
coasters to twisters and corkscrews, the great rides began with the Russian ice slides in the 17th
century and have developed into the ultimate thrill machines of today. The origins of the roller coaster
will probably never be a settled issue, historians and coaster enthusiasts could argue where it all began
(Harris). The success and evolution of the roller coaster and white knuckle ride has inextricably
mirrored the growth and changing perception of the amusement park industry over the years. A period

Out of this Dayton relationship and a partnership with Norman Bartlett came the great Flying Turns
ride. The prototype ride opened in 1929 at Dayton s Lakeside Park. In 1930, a larger version opened at
Euclid Beach Park in Cleveland, Ohio. Miller died in Houston while designing a coaster for the city of
Mexico (Throgmorton 72 93).
Miller held over 100 patents, and he invented many of the safety devices used in today s coasters. One
of his contributions was the safety chain dog, which prevents the train from rolling backward if the lift
chain breaks. Miller patented this ingenious device, which is the cause of the clanking sound heard
when the train is pulled up the hill, in 1910. Two years later, Miller patented the brilliant invention of
the under friction wheels. Coaster cars have three sets of wheels: a weight bearing set riding on top of
the track; a set inside the track keeping the cars on course; and a third set the under friction wheels
under the track, which lock the cars to the track (Harris).
The next pioneer to be looked at would be Fredrick Church, who along with Harry Traver created two
of the most terrifying and extreme rides ever built, the Cyclones and the Bobs. These two coasters
became notorious and most feared due to their killer reputation because of all the injuries and fatalities
that occurred on them, but society was still enthused with the rides in light of the tragedies. There is

Jump Shot In Basketball
Basketball is one of my favorite sports, and is one of the most watched and played sports all around
the world. In basketball a jump shot makes it easier to score the basketball faster. Jump shots can be a
deadly weapon against your opponents, because it comes down to something they cannot stop. An
incorrect jump shot will have more miss shots than made shots, but a correct jump shot will have more
made shots than miss shots. Everyone wants a correct jump shot, but sadly a correct jump shot isn t
given to anyone, everyone has to put in hard work and go through the basic fundamentals to develop a
very good jump shot.
The first step to a correct jump shot is study proper positioning on the body when the jump shot is
being shot. Take notes and see if the feet, hands, arms, and body is positioned the correct way.
Next get a basketball and go to a basketball court or basketball gym and prepare to change the jump
shot if it the jump shot was incorrect.
Then position the feet in a proper position before shooting. Move the feet no more than shoulder width
apart. Take the feet and position them in a comfortable position that has a good balance. Get the
balance of the feet that feels comfortable for shooting, and then point the feet in the direction of the
basketball goal. Lift them off the ground, and make sure they are never flat footed when the ball is
caught at any direction. Develop the feet into a comfortable stance, and never change the stance that is
created. Lined the feet

Australia for the keeping of convicts, due to the overcrowded prisons in their own country. They also

“a Take on the Pericles’ and Socrates’ Views on Athenian...
Athens is a major Greek city state in European history. It was a great center of cultural and intellectual
development, and thus home to philosophers. Socrates and Pericles, two of these philosophers, had
polarizing opinions about the city state and its citizens. While Pericles chooses to praise the Athenian
citizen, Socrates criticizes Athens people. Pericles gave his opinion at a funeral during the first battles
of the Peloponnesian War, while Socrates gave his during the trial that ultimately led to his death. The
Athenian city state has become a model for today s systems of government and a hearth for western
philosophy, so Pericles opinion seems to be the one that is more accurate. Pericles starts his speech

The freedom which we enjoy in our government extends also to our ordinary life (Pericles Funeral
Oration, Thucydides). In other words, it doesn t matter what your social rank is, if you are a citizen of
Athens, you have a right (and duty) to serve in the government. This is known as a direct democracy
today, and it is where we, citizens of the United States, took inspiration for our current system of
government. Pericles is right to praise the city state in this regard, as its legacy still has effect on the
world millenniums after its time. Socrates, however, wasn t as keen on democracy. Socrates, a critic of
Athenian society, is also known as a critic of democracy. Athens is a democracy, a city in which the
many are the dominant power in politics, and it can therefore be expected to have all the vices of the
many ( Socrates criticism of democracy, Encyclopedia Britannica). Socrates claims that he did not

Restaurant Business Report
Business report Executive summary As the world gets intricate and complex courtesy of new trends
and social waves, no sector of life seems to be left behind. The hospitality industry is faced with one
of the greatest challenges ever and all attention and focus is certainly geared toward addressing
customer satisfaction. However, without efficient information systems and proper technological
applications, the whole efforts are always insufficient or wasted. The need to upgrade systems and
improve operations is the main strategic objective of most restaurant executives. This report is
therefore an analysis of the need to apply the modern information systems in the industry and embrace
the growing usage of the point of sale system (POS) that has become the industry norm across the
world. In a way, most hoteliers and restaurant owners are confronted with unrelenting demand to
radically transform operations or to exit the market. To avoid the latter, implementation is inevitable.
Introduction In an increasingly competitive global environment, where the search for opportunities
dominates all other undertakings, where resources are less than those who seek them, it becomes
important to find ways and means of sailing through. Businesses across the world are increasingly
responding to these challenges by applying information systems to enhance performance and
efficiency in the operations. The major objective lies in producing high quality goods at the lowest

food on it demonstrates the archetypal theme of chaos to order in the play. When a devastating event

Christian Teaching and Discussion About Euthanasia Essay
Christian Teaching and Discussion About Euthanasia
The word euthanasia comes from two Greek words eu meaning good and thanatos meaning death.
Literally it means a good death .
Euthanasia is arranging for someone who has an incurable terminal illness to die as quickly and as
painlessly as possible. It is the act of purposely aiding someone to die, instead of letting nature take its
course. There are four main types of euthanasia these are: Voluntary, Involuntary, Active and Passive.
Euthanasia is currently illegal in the UK, but is legal in the Netherlands and the state of Oregon
however; it is still a widely discussed topic, which raises many moral questions. In this essay I will be

Also the Roman Catholic Church opposes euthanasia because of the strongly taught commandment:
Thou shall not kill. To add to that: the Roman Catholic Church regards the sanctity of life as an
extremely important teaching and places the highest value on human life and suffering and pain do not
stop life being valuable and is not a reason for ending life, therefore the Church believes that people
should leave the dying process to God, not to humans who by allowing euthanasia are, for Roman
Catholics, devaluing human life and making it seem disposable. Instead people should die with dignity
and let them be loved unconditionally by God until the end of earthly life. Therefore Roman Catholics
oppose euthanasia, this is an absolute view.
The Church of England s report in 1975 on dying well and the Methodist Church s statement in 1974
both oppose euthanasia. They emphasise the fact that human life is sacred.
However Christian views today vary with most Christians not accepting euthanasia.
A Christian teaching that can be used for euthanasia is the sanctity of life. Christians believe that all
life is given as a gift from God:
God made man in his own image, male and female he created them. Gen
Therefore because God gave life, it is a gift and it is valuable because humans are made in God s

The author uses great detail to show the reader the typical house call in 1902. Due to this detail, the author establishes the tones of calmness and intensity. Throughout the passage from Madame Bovary, the tones established through detail, imagery and figurative language reveal the character of Charles to the reader. The detail in the beginning of the passage allows the reader to feel a serene and calm tone. Flaubert also establishes an intense tone in his passage. Indeed, the significance of language in most societies regardless of the language. Communication has become an essential part of people s daily lives. However, have you ever asked yourself how the early hominids or our early ancestors were communicating? Did they even have a language? The evidence conclusively implies that humans were created with the unique ability to employ speech for communication. An article written by Lemonick (1994:80 87) in Time magazine titled How man began states, No single, essential difference separates human beings from other animals. Most scientific scholars acknowledge that communication by speech is exclusively a human ability. Therefore, it is one of the ability that is often used as the unique, and most important, dividing line between humans and animals. In his book, Eve Spoke, Philip Lieberman (1998:5) claims, Speech is so essential to our concept of intelligence that its possession is virtually equated with being human. Animals who talk are human, because what sets us apart from other animals is the gift of speech. In The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Human Evolution, three editors Jones, Martin, and Pilbeam (1999:128) agree, There are no non human languages and observed, language is an adaptation unique to humans, and yet the nature of its uniqueness and its biological basis are notoriously difficult to define. In his book, The Symbolic Species: The Co Evolution of Language and the Brain, Terrance Deacon (1997:25) could not agree when he writes, In this context, then, consider the case of human language. Morrissey (2008) and Othman and Jemni(2011) applied the technique of translation into a writing notation in their systems. Naval Warfare World War 1 While the naval war is usually known for only little attention in histories of World War I, the Royal Navy s blockade of Germany played a dangerous role in the War. So, naval warfare in WW2 had many innovations. The aircraft carrier was the most noteworthy and became the most potent naval assets which the Allies gained an increasing monopoly in. However, submarines were also deadly in Europe and the Pacific against merchant and supply ships. The human torpedoes of the Italian Malali were possibly the most innovative, and were also effective enough to influence the Royal Navy to research human torpedoes themselves. Essay On Surface Hardness Of Cang Surface Hardening of Cams for Venture Consulting Introduction Dean and Triana s invention is running into trouble when it is used continuously for long periods of time because the cams are too soft, resulting in wear and misalignment in the invention. They already have all of the cams, so switching materials is not an option, so we must find a way to harden the surface of the cams to reduce wear. The cams are made of 1020 steel, which has a hardness of 111 HB, and only has 0.20% carbon, classifying it as a low carbon steel. For this reason we recommend that carburization be utilized to increase the carbon composition at the surface, and thus increase the surface hardness. This occurs because the presence of carbon interstitially diffused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interstitial diffusion is the specific type of diffusion that will be going on. Interstitial diffusion typically involves one substance with much smaller atoms than the substance it is moving into, and the small atoms will move in between larger atoms in the lattice structure. We know that the radius of Carbon is 67 pm or 67*10 12 m and the radius of radius of Iron is 156 pm or 156*10 12 m. Carbon atoms are 89 picometers smaller in radius than Iron atoms. Carbon atoms are considerably smaller than Iron atoms as they are smaller than half the size of iron atoms. Because of the small size of carbon, it will enter the iron crystal structure through interstitial diffusion. The Governing Equation for this diffusion is (C Co)/(Cs Co)=1 erf[ x/(2*(Dt)1/2)] . The majority of the conflict was conducted within the region of Manchuria, however, several naval battles occurred within the Yellow Sea as well as in Tsushima Strait (the sea area between the southeastern Korean Peninsula and the southwestern portion of Japan). 2. The principle parties in this war were the Russian and Japanese Empires. While various aspects of the Chinese Empire played their roles in the lead up to the conflict they did not, however, side with either of the two warring Empires during the war. Russia did have an alliance of sorts with France and Germany, however, this advantage in numbers was negated due to Japan s formal alliance with Great Britain, who declared support for Japan should a third party become involved in a conflict. 3. The main theme for the context of this war was Russian and Japanese simultaneous determination to develop spheres of influence in eastern Asia, primarily within the nation of China and specifically within the region of Manchuria. This sense of determination found Meiji Japan fighting the Chinese Qing Dynasty during the Sino Japanese War over control of Korea, which was a Chinese tributary state. The reason for the commencement of the war was due to Manifest Destiny, a populist belief that Americans had a divine right to the land and so enjoyed the freedom to expand their borders towards the Pacific Ocean. The conflict, which was due to the exact position to place the border for each country affected mainly the natives. These small cetaceans include various species of small whales, many dolphin species and some porpoises. They are killed in various manors, ranging from accidental ship strikes to the more morally controversial yearly drive hunts. As you may know nearly all cetaceans use some sort of sound production in order to navigate waters, communicate with other individuals and groups of their respective species as well as capture prey (Brownell et al., 2008). An example of this is the variety sounds produced by bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) when exploring and foraging. Thrombocytes work on a specific layer called the endothelium made up of simple, squamas cells called endothelial cells. The function of the endothelium is to act as a semi permeable barrier, assist in vasoconstriction/dilation and help in thrombosis. In 2015, 220 per one million children under the age of 4 were involved in fatal motor vehicle accidents [1]. In addition to motor vehicle accidents, improper uses of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in cars are known to cause an increased risk of injury. It is very important to draw comparison between the internet, library, television and public places as a result of the fact the internet can also be considered or viewed as a public place where information can be obtained freely at any point in time, and this makes it very important to know what the law says about this disseminating information to the general public with respect to the first amendment. We loved this as an idea and continued to devise around this theme until we had the skeleton of a performance. Like frantic assembly we wish to make thrilling, energetic and unforgettable theatre like that we have seen in their performances of Beautiful Burnout, Othello and Blackwatch. These Frantic shows have been a big inspiration to us in many ways. When we saw Beautiful burnout live we were in awe of the pace, energy that flowed through the performance. We were also given the idea of having a mentor and mentee in our performance from Frantic. Blackwatch inspired us in our flashback scene in which we act as soldiers from the grandfathers past. It also showed us how people act in the proximity of death. As an ensemble our dramatic intentions are to shock and excite the audience with a mixture of impressive and dynamic physical sequences. We also intend to move the audience and make them reconsider their life. We intend to do this by writing deep and meaningful words at emotional moments of the play but also by doing slower, more heartfelt sequences to draw the audience. We have carried our 6 directors ... • 30. The Past And Present Defining Characteristics Of The Sami... Evidence suggests human presense in parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and even Russia over 9,000 years ago (Joessefson, 142). However, it would not be until thousands of years later that a highly unique and successful tribe would form, known as the Sami. While many Sami have assimilated into modern European culture, central traits still exists within this indigiouns group native to the Sapmi region. Some Sami still practice modes of subsistence, systems of marriage, kinship, social organization, and religion common to their ancestors. However, today, the Sami are faced with social issues distinct from those of their predesesors, such as pressures to conform to modern society, economic struggles, and in some cases, loss of community. It is important to evaluate both the past and present defining characteristics of the Sami peoples to fully understand their culture. One of the most well known characterisitics of the Sami is their skill in reindeer pastoralism. Though, pastoralism was not their initial mode of substiance, instead, the Sami began as a hunter gatherer society. As northern Europe is subject to extreme and lengthy winters, the Sami caught and harvested what they could. Beaver, reindeer, and fish were among the most commonly hunted by the Sami (Bergman, other 27). Artic rose, a plant rich with vitamins, was a popular edible plant that was also central to the Sami diet (Loeffler, 70). The History of Roller Coasters Essay The History of Roller Coasters Everyone remembers their first ride on a roller coaster, an experience of terror, joy and excitement, as you tower over amusement parks going through curves and loops. From wooden wonders and steel coasters to twisters and corkscrews, the great rides began with the Russian ice slides in the 17th century and have developed into the ultimate thrill machines of today. The origins of the roller coaster will probably never be a settled issue, historians and coaster enthusiasts could argue where it all began (Harris). The prototype ride opened in 1929 at Dayton s Lakeside Park. In 1930, a larger version opened at Euclid Beach Park in Cleveland, Ohio. Miller died in Houston while designing a coaster for the city of Mexico (Throgmorton 72 93). Miller held over 100 patents, and he invented many of the safety devices used in today s coasters. One of his contributions was the safety chain dog, which prevents the train from rolling backward if the lift chain breaks. Miller patented this ingenious device, which is the cause of the clanking sound heard when the train is pulled up the hill, in 1910. Two years later, Miller patented the brilliant invention of the under friction wheels. Coaster cars have three sets of wheels: a weight bearing set riding on top of the track; a set inside the track keeping the cars on course; and a third set the under friction wheels under the track, which lock the cars to the track (Harris). The next pioneer to be looked at would be Fredrick Church, who along with Harry Traver created two of the most terrifying and extreme rides ever built, the Cyclones and the Bobs. These two coasters became notorious and most feared due to their killer reputation because of all the injuries and fatalities that occurred on them, but society was still enthused with the rides in light of the tragedies. In basketball a jump shot makes it easier to score the basketball faster. Jump shots can be a deadly weapon against your opponents, because it comes down to something they cannot stop. Everyone wants a correct jump shot, but sadly a correct jump shot isn t given to anyone, everyone has to put in hard work and go through the basic fundamentals to develop a very good jump shot. The first step to a correct jump shot is study proper positioning on the body when the jump shot is being shot. Take notes and see if the feet, hands, arms, and body is positioned the correct way. Next get a basketball and go to a basketball court or basketball gym and prepare to change the jump shot if it the jump shot was incorrect. Then position the feet in a proper position before shooting. Move the feet no more than shoulder width apart. Take the feet and position them in a comfortable position that has a good balance. Get the balance of the feet that feels comfortable for shooting, and then point the feet in the direction of the basketball goal. Lift them off the ground, and make sure they are never flat footed when the ball is caught at any direction. Develop the feet into a comfortable stance, and never change the stance that is created. • 36. “a Take on the Pericles’ and Socrates’ Views on Athenian... Athens is a major Greek city state in European history. It was a great center of cultural and intellectual development, and thus home to philosophers. Socrates and Pericles, two of these philosophers, had polarizing opinions about the city state and its citizens. While Pericles chooses to praise the Athenian citizen, Socrates criticizes Athens people. Pericles gave his opinion at a funeral during the first battles of the Peloponnesian War, while Socrates gave his during the trial that ultimately led to his death. The Athenian city state has become a model for today s systems of government and a hearth for western philosophy, so Pericles opinion seems to be the one that is more accurate. This is known as a direct democracy today, and it is where we, citizens of the United States, took inspiration for our current system of government. Pericles is right to praise the city state in this regard, as its legacy still has effect on the world millenniums after its time. Socrates, however, wasn t as keen on democracy. Socrates, a critic of Athenian society, is also known as a critic of democracy. Athens is a democracy, a city in which the many are the dominant power in politics, and it can therefore be expected to have all the vices of the many ( Socrates criticism of democracy, Encyclopedia Britannica). The hospitality industry is faced with one of the greatest challenges ever and all attention and focus is certainly geared toward addressing customer satisfaction. However, without efficient information systems and proper technological applications, the whole efforts are always insufficient or wasted. The need to upgrade systems and improve operations is the main strategic objective of most restaurant executives. This report is therefore an analysis of the need to apply the modern information systems in the industry and embrace the growing usage of the point of sale system (POS) that has become the industry norm across the world. In a way, most hoteliers and restaurant owners are confronted with unrelenting demand to radically transform operations or to exit the market. To avoid the latter, implementation is inevitable. • 39. Christian Teaching and Discussion About Euthanasia Essay Christian Teaching and Discussion About Euthanasia The word euthanasia comes from two Greek words eu meaning good and thanatos meaning death. Literally it means a good death . Euthanasia is arranging for someone who has an incurable terminal illness to die as quickly and as painlessly as possible. It is the act of purposely aiding someone to die, instead of letting nature take its course. There are four main types of euthanasia these are: Voluntary, Involuntary, Active and Passive. Euthanasia is currently illegal in the UK, but is legal in the Netherlands and the state of Oregon however; it is still a widely discussed topic, which raises many moral questions. In this essay I will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also the Roman Catholic Church opposes euthanasia because of the strongly taught commandment: Thou shall not kill. To add to that: the Roman Catholic Church regards the sanctity of life as an extremely important teaching and places the highest value on human life and suffering and pain do not stop life being valuable and is not a reason for ending life, therefore the Church believes that people should leave the dying process to God, not to humans who by allowing euthanasia are, for Roman Catholics, devaluing human life and making it seem disposable. Instead people should die with dignity and let them be loved unconditionally by God until the end of earthly life. Therefore Roman Catholics oppose euthanasia, this is an absolute view. The Church of England s report in 1975 on dying well and the Methodist Church s statement in 1974 both oppose euthanasia. They emphasise the fact that human life is sacred. However Christian views today vary with most Christians not accepting euthanasia. A Christian teaching that can be used for euthanasia is the sanctity of life. Christians believe that all life is given as a gift from God: God made man in his own image, male and female he created them. Gen Therefore because God gave life, it is a gift and it is valuable because humans are made in God s image: God made man in his own image. Gen. Because God created humans
