Microbiology Pioneers
Contributors to Microbiology
Pioneers of Microbiology I. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek (Oct. 24, 1632 Aug. 30, 1723) A. In 1676
Leeuwenhoek saw tiny organisms in water, he was the first man to observe and describe bacteria
accurately. He discovered microscopic nematodes, blood cells and sperm. He also made over 500
microscopes to view specific objects. B. Microbiology is concerned with the study of all forms of life
that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Antonie s work dealt with bacteria, which are tiny
microorganisms that can only be seen with the help of instruments like the microscope, which he
invented. II. John Tyndall (Aug. 2, 1820 Dec. 4, 1893) C. In 1877 Tyndall demonstrated that dust ...

IX. Matthias Schleiden (1804 1881) Q. Matthias was the first to recognize the importance of cells as
fundamental units of life. He stated that all plants are made of cells, which eventually help lead to the
creation of the cell theory. R. In 1838,he argued that all the various plants structures are composed of
cells or their derivatives (phytogenesis). X. Joseph Lister (1827 1912) S. In 1865 lister concluded that
sepsis was akin to fermentation and was initiated by infectious agents, air born. In 1867 he shown that
antiseptic procedures are very successful T. This discovering made it easier for surgeons when
performing an operations and prevents the patients from getting infected. This operation marked a
turning point in the acceptance of germ theory and antisepsis among physicians. XI. Ernst Heinrich
Philipp August Haeckel (Feb. 16, 1834 Aug. 9, 1919) U. Ernst Haeckel discovered, described and
named thousands of new species, mapped an ancestral tree relating all life forms, and coined many
terms in biology including: anthropogeny, ecology, phylum, phylogeny, stem cell, and the kingdom
Protista. V. Haeckel promoted and popularized Charles Darwin s work in Germany and developed the
controversial recapitulation theory claiming that an individual organism s biological development

Argument For Animal Rights, By Peter Singer
For years, philosophers, humanitarians, and support groups, take in mind the popular organization
PETA, have been advocating for animal rights. Animal rights are the benefits humans provide to
animals. These benefits are protection against abuse and give animals humane treatment. Peter Singer
is one of the many to introduce animal welfare, starting with his book titled Animal Liberation. Some
support the idea of not using animals as a food source, clothing and other animal related products,
while vegans go as far as to boycott and protest companies that use the animals suffering for profit by
creating animal by products. Why should we extend equal consideration of interests to animals? How
different should those rights be from human rights? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, humans kill animals that trespass private property, make too much noise or simply for
enjoyment. Same consequences follow animals whose meat is known to be enjoyable, have attractive
furs or patterns, or are used in experiments for research purposes. Therefore, what makes it right to kill
an animal for these various purposes, but makes it wrong when it involves a human? This question can
be answered in many ways, depending on what belief system, including religion and education, one
believes in. It follows that the most common reason for denying animal rights is that humans are more
intelligent than animals, therefore animals do not reason or think like we humans do. It is obvious that
there are differences between animals and humans, like the structure of our brains and bodies, but that
does not necessarily mean that these differences are not morally relevant. For example, a mentally
challenged person does not have the same abilities of an intelligent person, however, that does not
make the well being of this mentally challenged person

Stanford V. Stanford s Massive Ponzi Scheme
Over the next decade Mr. Stanford, directly assisted by James M. Davis, Stanford International Bank s
CFO, and Leroy King, Antigua s chief banking supervisor, executed a massive Ponzi scheme. In
addition, Laura Pendergest Holt, the chief investment officer of Stanford Financial Group ( SFG ) and
a member of SIB s investment committee, gave credence to the fraudulent scheme by misrepresenting
herself to investors and to the firm s financial advisers claiming that she oversaw SIB s entire
investment portfolio and employed a sizeable team to invest in conservative and liquid assets. The
notion of potential fraud came quite early on as an examination was initiated in 1997 by the Fort
Worth District Office of the SEC due to concerns that the company s sales of CDs constituted a Ponzi
scheme. At the time the examination was conducted, Stanford Group Company had five branch offices
and sixty six employees. Twenty five of those employees were registered representatives, which are
individuals licensed to act as agents in the buying and selling of securities. SGC had approximately
2,000 customer accounts, of which 1,200 were based outside the United States. The ... Show more

The Chinese Film Shaolin Directed By Benny Chan
Buddha be praised, as many monks said after the passing of one s life (Shaolin, 00:03:00). The
Chinese Film Shaolin directed by Benny Chan tells a story of a historical event that was based on a
true story, but warped a little in order to fit the time period of today. Monks are considered high class
in the Chinese clan system, while those of a refugee status are no more than mere pigs in the eyes of
the Warlords. The Shaolin Monastery is located in the Songshan Mountains in Dengfeng City, Henan
Province of today; similarly, the movie is set in Dengfeng city and at the monastery. The Shaolin
Monastery is a combination of supernatural powers of Buddhism and the wisdom of Chan Buddhism.
The Buddhism belief and Chan wisdom is the cultural connection that one gets from meditating at this
monastery. Martial arts are ways of defense amongst the Asian culture, and the Shaolin Kung Fu was
developed to help train the monks bodies because the Chinese people believed that too much
meditation will develop a weak body (Shaolin Temple). That being said, Benny Chan s use of
narrative elements in his movie Shaolin to convey Chinese culture in the Henan Province represents a
similar depiction of what had occurred during the Tang Dynasty. His purpose is to portray the idea that
it is never too late for one to have a change of heart. For starters, the death of a precious person can
damage someone s mind and soul. The main character Hou Jie became known as Jingjue through
repenting within

Communication As A Nurse
As a current nursing student, the book Fundamentals of Nursing will enhance my career by helping
me implement good communication skills and understanding spiritual health.
Chapter 24 that discusses communication and chapter 36 that discusses spiritual health are the
chapters that helped me in writing this report.
It is factual that effective communication skills and competency are needed upon achieving a
profession as a nurse. Upon first greeting a patient the distinctive level of communication is apparent.
Communication has two core factors, non verbal and verbal. Both types of communication will be
implemented on a regular basis as I interact with patients in my nursing career. It will be vital for me
to attain an increased and developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I now understand that spirituality represents for numerous people a critical element that solidifies their
belief in God. Showcasing spirituality through common practices, via good service to others, passing
on wisdom, or showing compassion, usually brings deep intimate satisfactions. From my reading and
comprehension, as I will concentrate on creating a secure, wholesome and warm environment for the
patients in my care. I understand that the nurses function is to feel and capture the imbalance that is
present, and to get rid of the barricades in the patients recovery process. Spiritual care should be a
positive and delicate approach, on the basis of trust and a terrific comfortable relationship between the
patient and nurse in an effort to deliver quality care.
Holistic care focuses on the emotional, physical, economic, social and spiritual needs of individual
people. Patient care has an important goal which is obtaining and maintaining the equality between
mind, body and environment, as this balance is important for a fulfilling life.
In closing, this textbook has fundamentally taught me that Nurses play an important role in the health
care profession helping and caring for individuals, or whole families and it has many important
elements which are needed to ensure a great quality of

Pleural Intervention Essay
Pleural involvement in CT can be seen as pleural effusion, plaques, discrete pleural nodules, or a
combination. Pleural biopsy and pleural fluid cytologic examination are usually early steps in the
diagnostic workup of patients with pleural based masses. Primary pleural lymphoma is extremely rare.
By contrast, pleural involvement by systemic lymphoma is relatively common. Approximately 16% of
patients with non Hodgkin lymphoma present with, or subsequently develop, pleural involvement
during the course of disease. Pleural involvement can be unilateral or bilateral and is more common on
the left side (Vega et al., 2006). Pleural effusion in patients with lymphoma may be either due to actual
pleural disease or reactive in nature (Fig.37). 18F FDG ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
PET may provide complementary information to conventional staging as it is highly sensitive in
detecting nodal and extra nodal involvement by most histological subtypes of lymphoma prior to and
following treatment. In lymphoma staging, PET/CT tends to upstage rather than downstage tumors
(Okada et al., 2010). 18F FDG PET can be used for detecting most types of lymphoma. However,
even if the 18F FDG PET scan is positive in a pattern that is highly suggestive of lymphoma,
diagnosis of lymphoma requires histological confirmation. The major utility of 18F FDG PET in
diagnosis is often in directing a biopsy. PET can also be used to guide biopsies to the site of highest
18F FDG uptake, representing the most aggressive site of lymphoma. 18F FDG PET may identify
other involved regions, which can be biopsied at much lower morbidity (Delbeke et al, 2009). The
advantages of 18F FDG PET/CT for the staging and restaging of both NHL and Hodgkin disease are
mostly attributed to the detection of 18F FDG avid, normal sized lymph nodes (usually 1 cm), and of
extra nodal sites that were previously missed at CT (most commonly the liver, spleen, cortical bone,
bone marrow, and skin). In a few cases, paraspinal and pulmonary lesions that were interpreted as
benign at CT are seen to be malignant at PET/CT (Paes et al,

we need to know what sources of evidence are existing on or could be produced by our systems. Last

standpoint. 2. Yes, I believe Mr. Jenkins or Mr. McBride s supervisor can search McBride s locker in
the company s on site gym for digital evidence as long as a few criteria s are met. First, a policy for
such search should be in place. If employees are warn in advance (in writing and sign as part of their

of discretion in those areas. I also would add a third party who is impartial, local law enforcement,

An Analysis Of Conor Grennan s The Little Princes
Before and after In Conor Grennan s the little princes a young man by the name of Conor Grennan is
bored with his typical day to day life and decides to spend his life savings on a yearlong trip around
the world. Before he begins his worldwide trip, he volunteers at an orphanage in Nepal named the
little princes mainly out of a sense of guilt rather than an actual desire to help. Expecting it to be a
short and meaningless time he soon finds himself on a long and difficult journey that will change him
in ways that he never expected. Through his time with the children of the orphanage Conor finds
himself changing in ways he did not expect as he experiences the world outside of his own country,
develops a genuine desire to help others before himself, and eventually gaining a new sense of
purpose. This change brought on by his time spent with the children is apparent throughout his
journey as he is tested again and again to see how far he will go and just what kind of man he will be
in the end. In the beginning of his long Journey Conor is a simple man about to turn 30 and sets off on
a yearlong trip to experience the world which he has never known. His first look upon the outside
world is when he comes to Nepal and see s the damage the war has inflicted upon the country and its
people in. Though the country is in a such a war torn state, Conor is impressed by the children who
despite their situation still retain their childhood spirits, creating their own games and playing together
as normal children do, as Farid said They are very resourceful, these children. You will find they do
very much with very little. (part 1 chapter 1). Conor is not just impressed by the children s retaining of
their playfulness and love of fun, but also the way they take care of themselves and each other as their
own form of family, as Conor states himself That s Nepal. Children take care of one another. (part3
chapter4). Conor see s even more of the destruction the war has wrought as he searches for the parents
of the children, seeing villages of people no better off than the children of the little princes . Though

Othello Racism Analysis
Isolation, by definition, represent the act of being separated from a general group. In William
Shakespeare s Othello, racism can be seen as a common thing throughout the dialogues in the play.
Almost every single character have made racial slurs towards Othello. The protagonist, Othello is seen
as an isolated individual from the rest of Venice due to his skin colour. Othello feels insecure about his
race. The antagonist, Iago is able to take advantage of Othello s insecurities and weak emotions by
endlessly convinces him about Desdemona s infidelity. Racism in his society and Othello s sense of
heroism contribute to his downfall. However, Othello s insecurity regarding his race is the tragic flaw
that caused his downfall, killing both himself and his loved wife.
Externally, In Othello society, other s racist comments against him incorporate some impact on
Othello s downfall. Characters such as Roderigo, Iago, and Brabantio referred Othello as an inhumane
being. Othello was known as the moor and thick lips by Iago and Roderigo. Almost everyone
discriminates Othello verbally because of his skin colour. Yet, Iago is the most racist towards Othello,
he attempted to aggravate Brabantio by telling him an old black ram (I, III,23) is making the beast
with two backs with your white ewe . Iago referred Othello as black and Desdemona as white, where
two of them contradict each other. Iago intended to upset Brabantio by using racist animal imagery to
prove to Brabantio about his daughter s elopement. We can see that Iago have no respect for Othello
as a person, but only sees him as a black animal. Nonetheless, Desdemona s father, Brabantio also
have a racist attitude towards Othello. Brabantio doesn t seem to believe that Othello won his daughter
over with his personality. He believes Desdemona is abused, stol n, corrupted by spells and medicine
(I, III,60 61). Brabantio considered her daughter s elopement unnatural because he just cannot believe
his daughter fall in love with what she feared to look on ( ). Others racist comment around Othello
exposes his inner insecurity step by step, up to a point that Othello can no longer take it and causes his
downfall.
Internally, Othello s insecurities about

The Contradictions Of Women During The Victorian Era
The Victorian Era took place during 1837 1901 and is known as Queen Victoria s time period. She
was the first English monarch to see her name given to a time period while living. It was a time of
rapid advances in scientific, technological and medical knowledge, and even population growth.
Although Victorian England was based around the ideals of proper etiquette and maintaining high
society , the treatment of women during the Victorian Era highlights the contradictions of this time.
Families in the Victorian Society were known to be rather large consisting of 6 children if they were
wealthy but even larger if they were poor. Women during the 1870 s were known to have on average
six children, but women towards the 1910 s were more likely to have three on average. Victorian
houses differed if you were poor or wealthy. Wealthy families were known to have large extravagant
homes with several bedrooms, large living rooms, parlors and dining rooms separate from the
kitchens. Poor families on the other hand were crowded into one room that sometimes had to hold
families of about twelve children plus the parents. Poor families had more children because it meant
that there were more able bodies to go to work and make money. There are four social ... Show more

Comparing Sea Turtles And Sea Turtles
Sea turtles are one of the most beautiful creatures in the ocean. They have been on this earth for more
than 110 million years in the era of dinosaurs. These guys have always caught my interest mostly due
to cuteness and how unique they are. They have always been my favorite because they are so peaceful
When I was younger, I had pet turtle named Shella, and she was absolutely my most favorite pet I
could ever ask for. Unfortunately, she was getting very big for her tank and would constantly had to be
cleaned and had a strong stench. We eventually took her and released her to a nearby lake.
Sea turtles do not really do much other than reproduce and looking pretty. They spend most of their
lives in water close to warm temperature and near the coast and their life span can be lived up to about
80 years. Although they are not on top of the food chain in the ocean, they use the outer shell to help
them survive and for use for protection around their body. The shell (carapace) not only helps protects
them but is also to help sea turtles swim with ease. You can tell the difference between a sea turtle and
a land turtle from many ways. Some observations you can make is the location of where you see them.
They are sometimes bigger than the average turtle and have softer shell. If you also notice how sea
turtles cannot retract their heads and legs into their shell when they are frightened or resting. Some,

Analysis Of Denis Friske s Narrative Approach Essay
Question 1
Denis Friske s narrative approach states sanctions people as experts in their own life which effectively
empowers them in their self perspective and counseling relationship (2014). Through storytelling,
clients impacted by traumatic are allowed the opportunity to narrate their own experiences as a
process of emotional and psychological catharsis. In enabling people as experts over their own life,
child and youth care counselors do not dictate what they ought to do in their process of overcoming
traumatic or crisis experiences but act as guidance figures in client s lives towards their healing (Denis
Friske, 2014). As victims of abuse, giving people the time and space to create their own meanings in
narrative making and focus on their inner character s strength and resiliency, people are made experts
of their own lives by authoring their own stories and taking into control how they want to perceive
their situation in spite of adversity, strength can be recovered from deep within.
It is important that counselors empower clients as experts of their own lives because it gives them
autonomy and this will be beneficial when the counseling relationship eventually comes to a close.
When clients recount their own stories from their individual perspectives, agendas, and beliefs, this is
powerful and significant because no one else can testify about their own life better than they can.
Storytelling reweaves people s perspective to see their potential for strength, renewal

impacts due to the execution of this project, there is still a huge challenge in delivering water to the
population. One of the main issues of this is that the government is centralized and the agency
responsible for managing water infrastructure cannot delegate this responsibility to municipalities.
One way through which the World Bank could have improved this is by instead of giving technical
advice to a central entity, they trained and loaned money to municipalities. Lending money to
municipalities in rural areas would have ensured that even those that are the most far away would have
gotten access to this improvement in infrastructure. The Silver Medalist:

Leadership Secrets Of Colin Powell
Introduction
The book, Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell by Oren Harari provides an interesting overview of the
leadership exhibited by one of the globally known bottom line leaders in the United States. The
exceptional perspective on the role leadership plays is provided in the book, using Powell as the case
study. From the perspective provided by the author, the leader is revealed as one who was able to
portray successful leadership within the military, although it is a place in which is hard to achieve side
by side leadership. On the contrary, Powell is able to demonstrate that leadership is more about
responsibility and accountability as opposed to privilege and rank. It is all about complete
commitment towards a common mission, portraying audacity and determination, evaluation of
standards of performance, attending to details, overcoming the status quo, and empowering followers.
Discussion of the Book s Contents
Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell contains words, wisdom and insights of one of the most influential
figures in the history of America, Colin Powell. It is a source of inspirations from his humble

My Influence Of Sports On My Life
Through my life, I have always been willing to try new things. I have learned it is ok to fail, no matter
how many times, as long as I keep trying. Out of the many interests that I have pursued, one thing
stands out to me. I love sports. I have participated in sports since a young age, and I have discovered
that a vast majority of my relationships have been made through the sports world. I can talk about
sports all day long. My obsession started at a young age. The first memory I have of watching sports
was on February 1st, 2004. That was the date of Super Bowl 38. Before that date, I did not really
know much about football. After that game, I desired to know as much as possible. On that day, I
remember running around my house like any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That Super Bowl win in 2004 subconsciously initiated my quest to become an NFL general manager.
When I turned seven years old, my parents bought me Madden 2006 for my birthday. That same year I
begged my parents to sign me up for the local football league. Football was my first love. If I wasn t at
the field practicing football, I was throwing with my dad and other kids in the neighborhood.
Sometimes I would beg other kids dads to throw to me because their kids couldn t throw it hard
enough or far enough. When I was tired and couldn t play any more football, I would come home and
play Madden. I played Madden religiously. I played with every NFL team and learned as many names
as I could. The thing that captivated me about Madden was the player ratings. Each player had
numeric attributes numbered from 25 to 99 that affected their overall rating. The ratings included
speed, strength, acceleration, agility, catching, tackling, and awareness. My favorite thing to do was to
look through the numbers. I slowly memorized the names of hundreds of NFL players and used the
attributes to determine what type of player they were. I used a composition notebook to write down
names of my favorite players. I wrote down some of their notable attributes in the journal. On
Sundays, I would watch NFL games all day and watch the players I wrote in my journal. I wondered
what it would be like to put together a team with all the

Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth-Century London...
Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth Century London
From 1801 to 1851, the population of London grew from under 1 million inhabitants to 2.25 million.
This was due in large part to immigration, both from other countries and from the countryside of
England. Hundreds of thousands of people were moving to the newly industrialized cities and towns
to find work, having been squeezed off the land because of the enclosure of farms. There was also
displacement of the working class within the city of London because of a number of construction
projects. There were street improvement schemes in which tenements were razed in order to widen the
passages. The transformation of part of the city into a non residential district devoted to finance ...

One of every three inhabitants of flats of 4 or less rooms, irrespective of class, were overcrowded. In
1866, the Sanitary Act defined overcrowding as less than 400 cubic feet for each adult living in a room
day and night, or 300 cubic feet for a sleeping room. For children, these dimensions were halved. This
means that a man, woman, and one child living in a room 8 x10 x10 would be considered
overcrowded. For statistical and census purposes, the London City Council ignored cubic capacity,
and counted anything beyond two people per room as overcrowded. Hector Gavin, a lecturer in
forensic medicine at Charing Cross Hospital estimated that if all the windows and doors of a typical
laborers tenement were shut(against the cold, for example), the maximum length a man could survive
before all available oxygen was consumed was seven hours. The Window Tax of 1695, which taxed
any opening in a building s exterior walls, was finally repealed by the first Public Health Act of 1848.
As the problem of overcrowding became more and more evident, several remedies were tried. There
was some individual philanthropy, model dwellings were built by philanthropic capitalists, legislation
was passed prohibiting overcrowding, slums were torn down(which, of course, only worsened the
problem by displacing more people), there was suburban speculative development closely following
the development of the railroad which provided cheap, rapid transit to the newly forming

Adam and Eve and Temptation Essay
Kyle Dudzinski
Ms. Cecelia
AP English 12
20 December 2010
Temptation Temptation has been around since the conception of our Earth. All civilizations, including
the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the British, and even modern day individuals, have fallen
victim to temptations that the world offers. John Owen described temptation as a knife, that may either
cut the meat or the throat of a man; it may be his food or his poison, his exercise or destruction. A
temptation is an act that appears enticing to an individual, but is usually coupled with damaging
implications that may lead to feelings of regret and remorse. A person may fall victim to temptation
when he lacks the self control to avoid enticing situations and is ... Show more content on

Temptation is also rabid in most high school settings. Sex, illegal drugs, alcohol, cheating, and
tobacco are all temptations students are faced with on a daily basis. Teenagers must each make
personal decisions to either refrain from immoral conduct or succumb to the temptations of peer
pressure, usually with the hopes of being accepted. The temptations of potentially destructive
decisions are immense. It takes a strong willed individual to stand up against the majority and hold
true to his values. Not bowing to temptation is a difficult task for any person, but especially for a high
school student who is more worried about his own popularity and appearance and has yet to grow his
moral fibers. The temptations that the youth of our modern culture experience are very appealing, but
their consequences are more damaging than ever before. Temptation surrounds our lives. Daily, we
make decisions to either surrender to it or to persevere against it. It takes courage, bravery, and
discipline to withstand temptation. William Butler Yeats wrote that Every conquering temptation
represents a new found moral energy. Every trial endured and weathered in the right spirit makes a
soul nobler and stronger than it was before. When an individual overcomes the temptation of
participating in an immoral act, he grows as a person and becomes morally stronger. With the
knowledge of the results of a bad decision, a person can learn

Camera Techniques In Psycho

SIR ALFRED HITCHCOCK
Filmmaker Sir Alfred Hitchcock was nicknamed The Master of Suspense . Hitchcock s films are
recognised for their thrilling plots revolving around violence, murder and crime. His distinctive
directorial style was a result of the unmistakeable presence of psychological suspense. Over the course
of his career which spanned over six decades, Hitchcock has directed more than 50 feature films.
PSYCHO BACKGROUND
Psycho is undeniably Hitchcock s masterpiece. It is definitely one of the most exceptional and
suspense filled thrillers in the history of cinema. Back in 1960 when this movie was released it set a
new level of acceptability for brutality, sexuality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shower scene is carefully crafted sequence of 78 pieces of film. It exhibits various camera
movements and transitions within a matter of seconds. This technique was totally unheard of in that
era. Psycho thereby ushered in a new era of cinematic horror. And cinema has not been the same ever
since.
There is a brief portrayal of sexual imagery in the frame as the camera cuts into a low angle shot and
Marion removes her bath robe. A crab shot, still maintaining a low angle, then tracks Marion as she
moves into the shower and pulls the curtain. Hint of vulnerability is dropped as Marion is now naked
which is soon followed by her horrific murder in the following shots. This is to impose empathy to the
audience as throughout the scene so far the camera had focused intently on Marion, following every
one of her movements, slowly constructing a sense fear and horror. This deeply impacts the audience
when she dies at the climax of this scene. The scene was shot with Janet Leigh ( Marion Crane )
wearing moleskin patches that covered strategic areas. However, for several other angles Hitchcock
used a body

Disadvantages Of Adaptive Reuse
According to Brooker and Stone, their concept of adaptive reuse also define as the function is the most
obvious change, but other alterations may be made to the building itself such as the circulation route,
the orientation, the relationships between spaces; additions may be built and other areas may be
demolished .[1] An existing or abandoned building which is still structurally secure and now adapted
to fit new changes or functions of the building. In the past, people reuse an abandon building for
industrial or military use during industrial revolution or world war periods. The intention behind these
examples of reuse was functional and financial in the past. However, communities today perception on
restoring or reusing an existing building for new use had become a creative and challenging task to

Superpowers. Life would function a lot easier if everyone possessed these incredible abilities. Sadly
though, these skills live in the mythical worlds of comic books and movies. Even though some people
are led to believe that their lives would be a million times better with these capabilities, they would
not be. Life may contain hard times and good times, although, the way someone handles those times is
what matters. There is one woman in this world who conquered obstacle after obstacle and has found
the way to deal with anything she faces. She was able to find the perfect balance between family,

Originally she attended the University of Rhode Island to become a special education teacher,
although she left school with her degree in nursing. The rather significant change in career choice
occurred by one of Jamie s most prominent acts with her superpowers. During Jamie s attendance at
URI, her father in law developed Parkinson s disease a disorder that affects the central nervous system
that often causes tremors and affects muscle movements. It was taking care of her father in law that
brought the superhero light out in her. Day in and day out she would be by his side whenever he
needed her. Also, at the time Jamie was going through an extremely rigorous program to become
licensed in the field of nursing. Without a doubt, at this point her life a lot was going on, despite it all
though, she went through the time better than most would have. Now envision that moment in the
movie or comic book when all hope seems lost, but in spite of all of it, the superhero comes and helps
the ones in need and saves the day. Jamie did just that to the best of her ability for her father in law
until his unfortunate but inevitable death from Parkinson s

Descartes and the Mind Essay
The topic of the mind and how do we know has been around since the beginning of time.
It is one of those questions that will most likely never be answered. I mean, the mind itself is so
perplexing that we are still learning stuff about it daily. One question that Descartes proposed was how
do we know? we still are pondering this one today. We ask it almost every day, maybe not in that way
but in some form or another. So honestly, how do we know? Whenever Descartes started studying
about the mind he denounced all of his previous opinions and started fresh. He first stated that
knowledge is seen as a building in which all the superstructure is resting on a foundation, and the
building is only as strong as its foundation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So he began to ponder on how to prove that he truly did exist. He finally came up with this: Thought
exists; it alone cannot be separated from me. I am; I exist this is certain. But for how long? For as long
as I am thinking; for perhaps it could also come to pass that if I were to cease all thinking I would then
utterly cease to exist. At this time I admit nothing that is not necessarily true. I am therefore precisely
nothing but a thinking thing; that is a mind, or intellect, or understanding, or reason words of whose
meanings I was previously ignorant. Yet I am a true thing and am truly existing; but what kind of
thing? I have said it already: a thinking thing (Meditation II 31).
So in proving that he existed he also proved who he was or who we are. We are thinking things things
that can function as long as we think, but the moment that we stop thinking is the moment that we no
longer exist. So is that the moment we die? Or is it something entirely different? So through this he
proved that anything that he cannot doubt then that is what he is. And whatever he can doubt, then he
is not. He now had the knowledge of knowing about himself of who and what he was.
But there was a problem with this, that even though one doubted something then it could still be true.
One could doubt that he/she won a race even though they did win. Even though

Stereotypes Of The Social Norms In The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory is a television show that is about the lives of four scientists and their next door
neighbor. These four men are Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj. Each of these men have had a
successful career in the sciences while their next door neighbor and the love interest of Leonard is a
waitress that is struggling to be an actress. The other two women that come later in the series Amy and
Bernadette are also in the science field, but are viewed in a completely different manner. The Big
Bang Theory has many instances where the characters are sexist and are stereotypes of the social
norm. Stereotypes are shown in all three of the women in the show. Amy who has her PhD in
neurobiology is a stereotypical female scientist. She is badly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, many characters make fun of Raj and Howard s close relationship. Leonard s mom
labels their actions as gay and that they should stop it. This implies that being homosexual is
something to be ashamed of. Also, throughout the first season Raj admires Howard s flirting abilities
with women. This shows that there is a pride in heterosexual interactions. Homosexuality is under
represented in the show due to the abundance of heterosexual relationships. This is shown when
Sheldon has no interest in any relationship; however, the group tries to set him up and the people that
they tried setting him up with turn out to be women. The show labels men in a close friendship as
homosexual. This stereotype is unjust due to the fact that individuals can have a close relationship like
Raj and Howard and not consider themselves a part of the LGBTQ

Analysis Of Surprise By Jane Kenyon
I Swear, It s Not What It Looks Like:
Denial, Selective Perception, and Fear of Betrayal in Jane Kenyon s Surprise Television psychologists
and pop culture self help gurus tell us that marriage is hard work; marriage is compromise; marriage is
a choice between being right, and being happy. All of these statements are true. What these experts
don t tell us, however, is that marriage is also about putting on blinders, or looking on the bright side,
or one of a hundred other trite phrases to explain the art of self deception. In marriage, there are times
when we may find it necessary to look the other way from our spouse s faults or indiscretions, in the
interest of self preservation. For if we examine these problems too closely, our darkest, most secret
fears may come true. Therefore, it can seem easier to focus on the positive. In her poem Surprise, Jane
Kenyon uses denial, selective perception, and fear of betrayal to illustrate the self deception that can
occur in marriage. The woman in Surprise is in denial about her husband s behavior. On the surface,
the poem is about a woman whose husband gets her out of the house while their friends gather in
secret for a birthday party. She goes along with his ruse of going out for breakfast, followed by a walk.
She doesn t seem to be aware that a party is in the works, even though her friends are arriving, their
cars pulled close along the sandy shoulders/ of the road (5 6). This willful blindness on her part

  • 3. Argument For Animal Rights, By Peter Singer For years, philosophers, humanitarians, and support groups, take in mind the popular organization PETA, have been advocating for animal rights. Animal rights are the benefits humans provide to animals. These benefits are protection against abuse and give animals humane treatment. Peter Singer is one of the many to introduce animal welfare, starting with his book titled Animal Liberation. Some support the idea of not using animals as a food source, clothing and other animal related products, while vegans go as far as to boycott and protest companies that use the animals suffering for profit by creating animal by products. Why should we extend equal consideration of interests to animals? How different should those rights be from human rights? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, humans kill animals that trespass private property, make too much noise or simply for enjoyment. Same consequences follow animals whose meat is known to be enjoyable, have attractive furs or patterns, or are used in experiments for research purposes. Therefore, what makes it right to kill an animal for these various purposes, but makes it wrong when it involves a human? This question can be answered in many ways, depending on what belief system, including religion and education, one believes in. It follows that the most common reason for denying animal rights is that humans are more intelligent than animals, therefore animals do not reason or think like we humans do. It is obvious that there are differences between animals and humans, like the structure of our brains and bodies, but that does not necessarily mean that these differences are not morally relevant. For example, a mentally challenged person does not have the same abilities of an intelligent person, however, that does not make the well being of this mentally challenged person ... • 4. Stanford V. Stanford s Massive Ponzi Scheme Over the next decade Mr. Stanford, directly assisted by James M. Davis, Stanford International Bank s CFO, and Leroy King, Antigua s chief banking supervisor, executed a massive Ponzi scheme. In addition, Laura Pendergest Holt, the chief investment officer of Stanford Financial Group ( SFG ) and a member of SIB s investment committee, gave credence to the fraudulent scheme by misrepresenting herself to investors and to the firm s financial advisers claiming that she oversaw SIB s entire investment portfolio and employed a sizeable team to invest in conservative and liquid assets. The notion of potential fraud came quite early on as an examination was initiated in 1997 by the Fort Worth District Office of the SEC due to concerns that the company s sales of CDs constituted a Ponzi scheme. At the time the examination was conducted, Stanford Group Company had five branch offices and sixty six employees. • 5. The Chinese Film Shaolin Directed By Benny Chan Buddha be praised, as many monks said after the passing of one s life (Shaolin, 00:03:00). The Chinese Film Shaolin directed by Benny Chan tells a story of a historical event that was based on a true story, but warped a little in order to fit the time period of today. Monks are considered high class in the Chinese clan system, while those of a refugee status are no more than mere pigs in the eyes of the Warlords. The Shaolin Monastery is located in the Songshan Mountains in Dengfeng City, Henan Province of today; similarly, the movie is set in Dengfeng city and at the monastery. The Shaolin Monastery is a combination of supernatural powers of Buddhism and the wisdom of Chan Buddhism. The Buddhism belief and Chan wisdom is the cultural connection that one gets from meditating at this monastery. Martial arts are ways of defense amongst the Asian culture, and the Shaolin Kung Fu was developed to help train the monks bodies because the Chinese people believed that too much meditation will develop a weak body (Shaolin Temple). That being said, Benny Chan s use of narrative elements in his movie Shaolin to convey Chinese culture in the Henan Province represents a similar depiction of what had occurred during the Tang Dynasty. His purpose is to portray the idea that it is never too late for one to have a change of heart. For starters, the death of a precious person can damage someone s mind and soul. It is factual that effective communication skills and competency are needed upon achieving a profession as a nurse. Upon first greeting a patient the distinctive level of communication is apparent. I now understand that spirituality represents for numerous people a critical element that solidifies their belief in God. Showcasing spirituality through common practices, via good service to others, passing on wisdom, or showing compassion, usually brings deep intimate satisfactions. From my reading and comprehension, as I will concentrate on creating a secure, wholesome and warm environment for the patients in my care. I understand that the nurses function is to feel and capture the imbalance that is present, and to get rid of the barricades in the patients recovery process. Spiritual care should be a positive and delicate approach, on the basis of trust and a terrific comfortable relationship between the patient and nurse in an effort to deliver quality care. Holistic care focuses on the emotional, physical, economic, social and spiritual needs of individual people. • 7. Pleural Intervention Essay Pleural involvement in CT can be seen as pleural effusion, plaques, discrete pleural nodules, or a combination. Pleural biopsy and pleural fluid cytologic examination are usually early steps in the diagnostic workup of patients with pleural based masses. Primary pleural lymphoma is extremely rare. By contrast, pleural involvement by systemic lymphoma is relatively common. Approximately 16% of patients with non Hodgkin lymphoma present with, or subsequently develop, pleural involvement during the course of disease. Pleural involvement can be unilateral or bilateral and is more common on the left side (Vega et al., 2006). Pleural effusion in patients with lymphoma may be either due to actual pleural disease or reactive in nature (Fig.37). 18F FDG ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PET may provide complementary information to conventional staging as it is highly sensitive in detecting nodal and extra nodal involvement by most histological subtypes of lymphoma prior to and following treatment. In lymphoma staging, PET/CT tends to upstage rather than downstage tumors (Okada et al., 2010). 18F FDG PET can be used for detecting most types of lymphoma. However, even if the 18F FDG PET scan is positive in a pattern that is highly suggestive of lymphoma, diagnosis of lymphoma requires histological confirmation. The major utility of 18F FDG PET in diagnosis is often in directing a biopsy. PET can also be used to guide biopsies to the site of highest 18F FDG uptake, representing the most aggressive site of lymphoma. 18F FDG PET may identify other involved regions, which can be biopsied at much lower morbidity (Delbeke et al, 2009). The advantages of 18F FDG PET/CT for the staging and restaging of both NHL and Hodgkin disease are mostly attributed to the detection of 18F FDG avid, normal sized lymph nodes (usually 1 cm), and of extra nodal sites that were previously missed at CT (most commonly the liver, spleen, cortical bone, bone marrow, and skin). In a few cases, paraspinal and pulmonary lesions that were interpreted as benign at CT are seen to be malignant at PET/CT (Paes et al, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Analysis Of Conor Grennan s The Little Princes Before and after In Conor Grennan s the little princes a young man by the name of Conor Grennan is bored with his typical day to day life and decides to spend his life savings on a yearlong trip around the world. Before he begins his worldwide trip, he volunteers at an orphanage in Nepal named the little princes mainly out of a sense of guilt rather than an actual desire to help. This change brought on by his time spent with the children is apparent throughout his journey as he is tested again and again to see how far he will go and just what kind of man he will be in the end. In the beginning of his long Journey Conor is a simple man about to turn 30 and sets off on a yearlong trip to experience the world which he has never known. His first look upon the outside world is when he comes to Nepal and see s the damage the war has inflicted upon the country and its people in. • 14. Othello Racism Analysis Isolation, by definition, represent the act of being separated from a general group. In William Shakespeare s Othello, racism can be seen as a common thing throughout the dialogues in the play. Almost every single character have made racial slurs towards Othello. The protagonist, Othello is seen as an isolated individual from the rest of Venice due to his skin colour. Othello feels insecure about his race. The antagonist, Iago is able to take advantage of Othello s insecurities and weak emotions by endlessly convinces him about Desdemona s infidelity. Racism in his society and Othello s sense of heroism contribute to his downfall. However, Othello s insecurity regarding his race is the tragic flaw that caused his downfall, killing both himself and his loved wife. Externally, In Othello society, other s racist comments against him incorporate some impact on Othello s downfall. Characters such as Roderigo, Iago, and Brabantio referred Othello as an inhumane being. Othello was known as the moor and thick lips by Iago and Roderigo. Almost everyone discriminates Othello verbally because of his skin colour. Yet, Iago is the most racist towards Othello, he attempted to aggravate Brabantio by telling him an old black ram (I, III,23) is making the beast with two backs with your white ewe . Iago referred Othello as black and Desdemona as white, where two of them contradict each other. Iago intended to upset Brabantio by using racist animal imagery to prove to Brabantio about his daughter s elopement. We can see that Iago have no respect for Othello as a person, but only sees him as a black animal. Nonetheless, Desdemona s father, Brabantio also have a racist attitude towards Othello. Brabantio doesn t seem to believe that Othello won his daughter over with his personality. He believes Desdemona is abused, stol n, corrupted by spells and medicine (I, III,60 61). Brabantio considered her daughter s elopement unnatural because he just cannot believe his daughter fall in love with what she feared to look on ( ). Others racist comment around Othello exposes his inner insecurity step by step, up to a point that Othello can no longer take it and causes his downfall. Internally, Othello s insecurities about ... These guys have always caught my interest mostly due to cuteness and how unique they are. They have always been my favorite because they are so peaceful When I was younger, I had pet turtle named Shella, and she was absolutely my most favorite pet I could ever ask for. Unfortunately, she was getting very big for her tank and would constantly had to be cleaned and had a strong stench. We eventually took her and released her to a nearby lake. Sea turtles do not really do much other than reproduce and looking pretty. They spend most of their lives in water close to warm temperature and near the coast and their life span can be lived up to about 80 years. Although they are not on top of the food chain in the ocean, they use the outer shell to help them survive and for use for protection around their body. The shell (carapace) not only helps protects them but is also to help sea turtles swim with ease. You can tell the difference between a sea turtle and a land turtle from many ways. Some observations you can make is the location of where you see them. They are sometimes bigger than the average turtle and have softer shell. • 19. Analysis Of Denis Friske s Narrative Approach Essay Question 1 Denis Friske s narrative approach states sanctions people as experts in their own life which effectively empowers them in their self perspective and counseling relationship (2014). Through storytelling, clients impacted by traumatic are allowed the opportunity to narrate their own experiences as a process of emotional and psychological catharsis. In enabling people as experts over their own life, child and youth care counselors do not dictate what they ought to do in their process of overcoming traumatic or crisis experiences but act as guidance figures in client s lives towards their healing (Denis Friske, 2014). As victims of abuse, giving people the time and space to create their own meanings in narrative making and focus on their inner character s strength and resiliency, people are made experts of their own lives by authoring their own stories and taking into control how they want to perceive their situation in spite of adversity, strength can be recovered from deep within. It is important that counselors empower clients as experts of their own lives because it gives them autonomy and this will be beneficial when the counseling relationship eventually comes to a close. When clients recount their own stories from their individual perspectives, agendas, and beliefs, this is powerful and significant because no one else can testify about their own life better than they can. One way through which the World Bank could have improved this is by instead of giving technical advice to a central entity, they trained and loaned money to municipalities. The thing that captivated me about Madden was the player ratings. Each player had numeric attributes numbered from 25 to 99 that affected their overall rating. The ratings included speed, strength, acceleration, agility, catching, tackling, and awareness. My favorite thing to do was to look through the numbers. I slowly memorized the names of hundreds of NFL players and used the attributes to determine what type of player they were. I used a composition notebook to write down names of my favorite players. Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth Century London From 1801 to 1851, the population of London grew from under 1 million inhabitants to 2.25 million. Hundreds of thousands of people were moving to the newly industrialized cities and towns to find work, having been squeezed off the land because of the enclosure of farms. There was also displacement of the working class within the city of London because of a number of construction projects. In 1866, the Sanitary Act defined overcrowding as less than 400 cubic feet for each adult living in a room day and night, or 300 cubic feet for a sleeping room. For children, these dimensions were halved. This means that a man, woman, and one child living in a room 8 x10 x10 would be considered overcrowded. For statistical and census purposes, the London City Council ignored cubic capacity, and counted anything beyond two people per room as overcrowded. Hector Gavin, a lecturer in forensic medicine at Charing Cross Hospital estimated that if all the windows and doors of a typical laborers tenement were shut(against the cold, for example), the maximum length a man could survive before all available oxygen was consumed was seven hours. The Window Tax of 1695, which taxed any opening in a building s exterior walls, was finally repealed by the first Public Health Act of 1848. As the problem of overcrowding became more and more evident, several remedies were tried. There was some individual philanthropy, model dwellings were built by philanthropic capitalists, legislation was passed prohibiting overcrowding, slums were torn down(which, of course, only worsened the problem by displacing more people), there was suburban speculative development closely following the development of the railroad which provided cheap, rapid transit to the newly forming ... All of these statements are true.
