The Stone Mill Court Reach 2 Outfall Restoration Project in Fairfax County, VA restored 262 linear feet of eroded channel through the use of natural stream design techniques. The project goals were to address public safety concerns, stabilize the eroded channel, and improve water quality. The restoration included installing step pools, reinforced riffles, coir matting and native plantings. Upon completion, the project is expected to reduce nitrogen by 32 lbs, phosphorus by 14.7 lbs, and suspended solids by 5,084 lbs annually.

Description:
The Stone Mill Court Reach 2 Outfall Restoration Project was substantially completed on April 24, 2018.
The project consisted of the restoration of 262 linear feet of eroded channel. The goals of the project
were to address public safety concerns, stabilize a deeply eroded channel by using natural stream design
techniques, and provide enhanced water quality.
Project Overview:
• Restore the outfall channel with imbricated stone step pools and reinforced bed mix riffle sections
• Stabilize channel banks using coir matting and native vegetation
• Revegetate disturbed areas with native plants, trees, and shrubs to promote reforestation
• Provide a reduction of 32.0 lbs of Total Nitrogen per year, 14.7 lbs of Total Phosphorous per year, and
5,084 lbs of Total Suspended Solids per year
