This project involved stabilizing 1,500 linear feet of Tripps Run Stream through the installation of in-stream structures like step pools and cross vane structures. Native vegetation was also planted to enhance the riparian buffer. The completion of this project will reduce erosion and improve water quality by decreasing phosphorous by 15.5 pounds per year and nitrogen by 290 pounds per year. Work included reconstructing the channel and replacing a failing concrete wall with an imbricated stone wall.

Huntington Levee
The Huntington Levee is located at 5755 Mt. The levee is made up of a 10- to 15-foot high earthen embankment with a 4-foot high concrete I-wall which caps the steel sheet piles embedded in the embankment. The project also includes a 5,300 square foot mechanical pump station that houses three 42.5 million gallon per day axial flow pumps for the larger storm events and three 8,000 gallon per minute low flow pumps for base flows and smaller storms. Upgrades to the Farrington Park playground and a network of connecting trails was included in the project. The new levee infrastructure has been operational since spring 2019 and recently provided flood protection for the adjacent homes and community during the major rainfall event of July 8, 2019.
The project achieved the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure Envision Bronze Award and has been recognized with the National Capital Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers Sustainable Project/Program of the Year Award for 2019.
Wakefield Park South Stream Restoration

Huntington Levee
The Huntington Levee is located at 5755 Mt. Vernon Drive, Alexandria, and provides a 2,800-foot levee along Cameron Run to protect the community from flooding associated with storms of up to at least a 100-year event. The levee is made up of a 10- to 15-foot high earthen embankment with a 4-foot high concrete I-wall which caps the steel sheet piles embedded in the embankment. The project also includes a 5,300 square foot mechanical pump station that houses three 42.5 million gallon per day axial flow pumps for the larger storm events and three 8,000 gallon per minute low flow pumps for base flows and smaller storms. Upgrades to the Farrington Park playground and a network of connecting trails was included in the project. The new levee infrastructure has been operational since spring 2019 and recently provided flood protection for the adjacent homes and community during the major rainfall event of July 8, 2019.
The project achieved the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure Envision Bronze Award and has been recognized with the National Capital Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers Sustainable Project/Program of the Year Award for 2019.
Wakefield Park South Stream Restoration
The Wakefield Park South Stream Restoration project in Fairfax County, VA was completed ahead of schedule and on budget. The project restored 2,700 linear feet of streams that feed into Accotink Creek using natural channel design techniques. 1) A study from the 1990s examined using a tidal gate at Throgs Neck to improve water quality in Long Island Sound by reducing pollutant concentrations and increasing dissolved oxygen levels.
2) Modeling showed the tidal gate could induce increased ocean water flow through Long Island Sound to the harbor, but may also alter tidal elevations and increase salinity.
3) While water treatment upgrades have led to improvements, a storm surge barrier could provide additional water quality benefits worth further investigation due to synergies between water quality and coastal protection goals.

PCB contamination from a nearby steel facility led to the remediation and restoration of two streams, Dicks Creek and Monroe Ditch, from 2010-2013. Remediation involved removing over 174,500 metric tons of contaminated sediment and floodplain soils. Restoration included designs to improve sinuosity and aquatic habitats. Post-remediation monitoring in 2014 found improvements in habitat and biological communities, including increased fish and macroinvertebrate species and metrics meeting or exceeding biological criteria.

Merrifield Nursery Emergency Gravity Sewer Replacement
During a routine Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Camera inspection by Wastewater Collection Division (WCD), it was found that 45 linear feet of 8-inch asbestos reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) between MH-292 to MH-291 was within imminent danger of failing. The bottom of the RCP was missing within the 45 linear feet of repair and the pipe was on the verge of surcharging. After an immediate pre-construction meeting with Merrifield Nursery, it was agreed to work from 6pm-10am everyday of the week to avoid disruption and potentially placing patrons at risk during the biggest time of the year for Merrifield Garden Center. The contractor mobilized to the site and began the 20-foot excavation to replace 45 linear feet of broken gravity sewer. The project started on March 14th, 2022 and was substantially complete on March 23, 2022.
SULLY BASINS STORMWATER POND RETROFITS
The Sully Basins Stormwater Pond Retrofits project was substantially completed on April 19, 2022. The project is located within the Cub Run watershed. The project consisted of repair and enhancement of multiple stormwater basins, 0326DP, 0964DP and 1484DP. The project also included construction of new stone cascades, stone weir basin structures and the construction of wetlands with high and low marsh areas. The project will facilitate improved sediment removal and improve downstream water quality using forebays and micro pools. Aquatic and natural habitat were also added within the three basins.
Clarks Crossing Road Improvements 05-13-22
This document summarizes a pedestrian access improvement project along Clarks Crossing Road in Fairfax County, Virginia. The project improved pedestrian and bicycle access by constructing a missing link of sidewalk between Brookside Lane and an existing sidewalk further along Clarks Crossing Road. Work included installing sidewalk, curb ramps, drainage improvements, and milling and overlaying asphalt. The project was substantially completed in March 2022 and provides approximately 200 feet of new pedestrian access along Clarks Crossing Road.

Lorton Volunteer Fire Station #19
Description:
The project consists of a new, 23,000 square feet, two-story, four-bay fire station facility and associated improvements to the 3.3-acre site including storm water detention, landscaping and parking. The scope also included the demolition of the existing fire station, and a temporary fire station to house the Fire and Rescue Department during construction of the new facility. The key elements of the overall project include:
Scotts Run at Old Meadow Road Park Phase I and Phase II Stream Restoration
Scotts Run @ Old Meadow Road Stream Restoration was substantially completed on March 30, 2022. The Scotts Run project consisted of restoring, enhancement, and stabilizing of approximately 2,930 linear feet of eroding stream using Natural Channel Design criteria. This project included two phases: Phase I was funded by proffers from a private development and Phase II was County funded. Also included was the removal of invasive non-native plants and the installation of new plantings to stabilize the stream and floodplain.
Sully Community Center Construction Progress

Burke VRE Connector Phase IV
Burke Centre VRE Connector Phase IV project was substantially completed on March 7, 2022. This project enhanced the access to mass transit by creating a more direct connection from the VRE Station to the residential areas west of Premier Court. This project also connects the Oak Bluff community to the Virginia Rail Express (VRE) Burke Station and provides a multi-use shared pedestrian and bicycle trail for outdoor recreation.

LAKE BARTON DREDGING, RESTORATION AND RISER MODIFICATION PROJECT
The Lake Barton Dredging, Restoration, and Riser Modification project was substantially completed on December 29, 2021. The project is located within the Pohick Creek watershed. The project consisted of dredging and removal of approximately 19,100 cubic yards of sediment to restore the sediment trapping capacity and improve water quality. The project also included construction of new sediment forebays, in-lake haul roads, and riser modifications (new mid-level sluice gate and cold-water intake) to facilitate future maintenance, stabilize the shoreline, and improve downstream water quality. Fish habitat was also added within the lake.
Reston Arts Community Center Feasibility - Wrap Up

The work included installation of in-stream structures (Step Pools, Cross Vane Structures, J-Vane Structures, Riffle Habitat Structure, Plunge Pool Structure, Imbricated Stone Wall, and Stone Toe Protection), the stabilization of stream channel bed and banks, enhancement of the riparian buffer through the planting of native vegetation, and other related items. The completion of this project will maximize the water quality benefits and provide downstream protection. Project Overview: • Constructed In-Stream Structures to stabilize the streambed and banks, reduce erosion, improve habitat, and improve water quality. • Replaced the failing existing concrete wall with Imbricated Stone Wall. • Water quality benefits: Reduction of Phosphorous by 15.5 pounds per year, reduction of Nitrogen by 290 pounds per year, reduction of suspended solids by 2.35 tons per year. • Restored native trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, and grasses along the stream channel.
