The Lake Barton dredging, restoration, and riser modification project was completed on December 29, 2021, aimed at improving water quality by removing approximately 19,100 cubic yards of sediment and constructing new sediment forebays and riser modifications. The project led to significant reductions in pollutants, including 47 lbs. of total phosphorus and 743 lbs. of total nitrogen annually, with a total construction cost of $1,996,000. The project was managed by the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, involving multiple team members and a contracted construction company.
