The Harvest Green Court Outfall Restoration Project in Fairfax County, Virginia restored 407 linear feet of eroded channel located in a Resource Protection Area. The project stabilized the channel using natural stream design techniques like imbricated stone step pools and reinforced bed mix riffle sections. Native vegetation was also planted to reduce nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended solid levels in the waterway. The restoration project addressed public safety concerns and improved water quality in the Sugarland Run Watershed.

Description:
The Harvest Green Court Outfall Restoration Project was substantially completed on March 27, 2018.
The project consisted of the restoration of 407 linear feet of eroded channel located in a Resource
Protection Area. The goals of the project were to address public safety concerns, stabilize a deeply
eroded channel by using natural stream design techniques and provide enhanced water quality.
Project Overview:
• Restore the outfall channel with imbricated stone step pools and reinforced bed mix riffle sections
• Stabilize channel banks using coir matting and native vegetation
• Revegetate disturbed areas with native plants, trees, and shrubs to promote reforestation
• Provide a reduction of 61.9 lbs of Total Nitrogen per year, 28.5 lbs of Total Phosphorous per year,
and 9,835 lbs of Total Suspended Solids per year
