Hamlet Essay
Hamlet Each major character of Shakespeare s Hamlet has a major flaw, which destroys him or her.
The King, Queen, Hamlet, Ophelia, and Polonius all have these flaws but Horatio does not. He is
Shakespeare s ideal man.
Claudius fatal flaw is ambitiousness. Claudius kills his brother King Hamlet and then takes the throne
by marrying King Hamlet s wife: Therefore our sometime sister, now our queen...have we (as twere
with a defeated joy, with an auspicious and a dropping eye, with mirth in funeral and with dirge in
marriage, in equal scale weighing delight and dole) taken to wife (I.ii.10 14).
Claudius admits to killing the King in a confessional prayer:
O, my offense is rank, it smells to heaven; it hath the primal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

And yet , within a month (let me not think on t; frailty, thy name is woman!)...(O God, a beast that
wants discourse of reason would have mourned longer!), married with my uncle... (I.ii.142, 147 150,
155 156). Gertrude trusts King Claudius and because of her trust her fate becomes death:
King: Gertrude, do not drink.
Queen: I will, my lord; I pray you pardon me. [She drinks]
King: [aside] It is the poisoned cup. It is too late...
Queen: No, no, the drink, the drink! O, my dear
Hamlet! The drink, the drink! I am poisoned.
Hamlet s passivity is his flaw. The deceased King Hamlet s ghost tells Hamlet to get revenge: Revenge
his foul and most unnatural murder (I.v.31) and by telling him this he misses the opportunity to kill
King Claudius: Now might I do it *pat*, now he is a praying, and now I ll do t. And so he goes to
heaven, and so am I *revenged*...A villain kills my father, and for that, I, his sole son, do this same
villain send to heaven. Why, this is [something Claudius should pay me for], not revenge. He took my
father grossly, full of bread, with all his crimes broad blown, as flush as May; and how his audit stands
who knows save heaven. But in our circumstance and course of thought tis heavy with him. And am I
then revenged to take him in the purging

Book Review Wild Swans
Book Review
Author: Jung Chang
Title: Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China
Publication: Simon and Schuster, London, 1991
1. Main Thesis
In Wild Swans, Jung Chang describes the life of three generations of woman in her family. Beginning
in the year 1909 and ending in present time, it gives an insight into almost eighty years of the cultural
history of China. Jung Chang has said in a interview that her intention in writing Wild Swans was to
show how the Chinese people, and in particular the women in her family, fought tenaciously and
courageously against impossible odds.
The book is a testimony to the strength and determination of her grandmother, her mother, and herself
and their resourcefulness in recreating themselves during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
De hong sees communism becoming increasingly important to many people but has yet to make up
her own mind about the situation. She continues to watch those in power, including those over the
teaching school where she now resides. When she learns that a favorite teacher and then her best
friend, Cousin Hu, had been Communists and had been either chased from the city or executed for
their political beliefs, she makes up her mind that she, too, will become a Communist.
Chapter 5:
De hong asks to be a part of the communist movement but she s found too young. A short time later,
she begins distributing Communist literature. The economic situation is so bad that the family has no
savings and Dr. Xia, now nearly eighty, is worried about what will happen when he dies. Extortion is
rampant, food is scarce, and the money that does exist has almost no value. De hong becomes friendly
with a Kuomintang general. Using his military freedom, they travel outside the walled city
occasionally and De hong leaves messages for her Communist counterparts.. The Communists then
start regular bombardment of the city, including one dud shell that crashes into the home of De hong s
family.
Chapter 6:
De Hong helps clean up the carnage cause by all the civil war. When the communists take over the
town, they do not pillage, rape, or extort as all the other groups of people had done before them. Many

Coors Brewing Company Executive Summary
Subject: Business Strategy
Executive Summary:
Throughout most of its history, the Coors Brewing Company (Coors) has been a regionalized brewer
within the United States, specializing in high quality beer through by virtue of its source water
selection, stringent production standards, and cold filtered brewing approach. As the company
expanded its distribution to new markets within the U.S. in attempt to gain market share, it made a
strategic decision to maintain a majority of its brewing operations at its primary production facility in
Golden, Colorado. This decision was based upon the desire to preserve its core production strengths
through close family control. However, as the company desires to expand its market presence beyond

Even though their shipping costs were twice the industry s, average shipping costs would have been
much more had they attempted to enter other states. Besides, Coors made up for the inefficiency with
the scale of their plant, the largest in the nation. The location lent itself well to Coors ability to
differentiate its product. For example Coors was brewed using pure Rocky Mountain spring water.
Coors had a great opportunity to serve an underserved geographical market. Seven of 24 million
barrels sold in the region had to be imported from production facilities outside of the region, and
Coors Colorado facility was more central to the area than the three other closest facilities in Missouri,
Texas, and Wisconsin. Coors had the second lowest production cost per barrel in the industry, in spite
of their claim of the most expensive raw material costs. Their cost advantage stemmed from the
industry s highest capacity utilization, economies of scale through the country s largest brewery, single
product focus, and the industry s fastest packaging lines. Matching their low production cost was the
lowest advertising cost relative to the industry. The mystique that had been built up about Coors and
their differentiating, all natural appeal allowed them to get away with lower advertising costs than
average for the industry. Coors differentiated their product, both in the

Why Canadians Are Frustrated With Their Legislatures
Good morning everyone. Today I will be covering David Docherty s book Legislatures. The work
covers various aspects of the functions, procedures and evolution of Canadian legislatures, both
provincial and federal. The analysis undertaken by Docherty, as expressed in his own words,
constitutes an audit of the existing legislatures and their procedures as they have historically operated
as well as in their modern iterations.
Docherty s analysis, broadly speaking, is an investigation into how internal processes and systems
contribute to the lack of satisfaction and relative distrust Canadians have in their governments to be
effective at their mandate of prudent governance. In order to understand why Canadians are frustrated
with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Representation inclusivity has therefore made large strides in provincial and federal parliaments, but
elections remain the strongest way to increase inclusivity through the election of brand new members.
Docherty addresses criticism both internally and externally of the governing party. Internally Docherty
suggests that while advances for nonpartisan selection of specific roles, such as the Speaker, have
been successful in achieving some neutrality, party discipline and loyalty to the executive remain
incredibly strong in Canada making internal dissention both politically and strategically unwise for
members of a governing party. Externally of the government, parties and individual MP s do not
receive the same type of research support as well as funding as those which hold particular positions
such as Ministers or meet standards set by the Board of Internal Economy. While oppositions can
scrutinize in the form of Question Period (QP) or Private Members Bills (PMB) these measures have
become more symbolic and theatrically politicized than they have been historically leading to more
talk and much less action.
Finally turning to legislation, Docherty highlights particular trends in Canadian legislatures that are
impacting the quality and timely nature of legislation. Firstly, the downsizing of legislatures occurring
across Canada. In

Unit 36 Research Paper
Although there are quite a few ways to arrange the given variables to get 36, the first equation that
pops into my mind is: 3N+D=36 When I read through the list of variables, I settled on the very last
one, N=11, and divided 36 by it to get 3r3. I, then, scanned back over the list of values to find the
corresponding variable for 3 to add to 33 and balance the equation. Though I chose to go this route, as
stated in my opening, there are many ways to get 36 with the given values. These values range from 0
11 and some of them, as we know, are factors of 36 (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 9). The fact that so many of the
values are factors is a clear indication that there is definitely, as the old adage says, more than one way
to skin the cat . To form an equation we have the following options. We can (a) choose a complete
factor set from the list of values which would form a quick and neat equation like 6^2=36, 6*6=36,
and 9*4=36, or (b) pick one of the other variables whose value is not a part of a complete factor set, in
which case the equation would be more complex, but one could easily manipulate it by adding,
subtracting, multiplying or dividing a combination of the other variables until the equation is
balanced. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowing the answer before you understand the question is a pro because in some instances, we, as
individuals, need to work out things in our own way in order to fully grasp a given concept. For
example, I often use stories of my personal life experiences to encourage my children when they are
faced with certain obstacles. Now, although the path I took allowed me to overcome that obstacle, it
may not be a suitable path for this particular child so I always make sure to close the story with telling
them that even though I shared my story (or my equation), my story is not necessarily THE way but
simply A way to overcome the obstacle. and I m only sharing to show that it CAN be

Comparison Of Homelessness In The Homeless
Homelessness in Columbus, GA
In 2005 an estimated 100 million people were homeless worldwide, and as many as 1.6 billion were
without proper housing. Homelessness is an often overlooked problem; people do not realize the
extremities of it. In fact, Columbus, GA has one of the highest homelessness rates in Georgia.
Homeless people are all over; they are in our backyard. People look over them every day on their way
to work, school, and home. They are regular people just like everyone else, yet no one takes care of
them. Unfortunate situations can happen to anyone, and when they do people reach out and do what
they need to take care of them; so why do people not do that for the homeless? This is a problem that
desperately needs help. In Boston, they have what is called Housing First. This is an organization that
goes out to the homeless communities, finds them apartments, helps them to get a job and provides a
way for them to get their life back on track. In Columbus, we need to start something similar called
Community First.
Homeless People are constantly blamed themselves for their situation, but often times it has nothing to
do with anything they have done. People can become homeless in a number of ways. Boston s
homeless success stories says that, Kimberly had a nice home and a nice job. But the company she
worked for went under. (qtd. In success stories) Eventually, Kimberly lost everything. Her savings

British Columbia V Fraser Health Authority Case Study
Introduction/Background
The British Columbia (Workers Compensation Appeal Tribunal) v. Fraser Health Authority, 2016 SCC
25 [Fraser Health Authority] is a civil tort claim that deals with workers compensation coverage for
occupational disease and determining causation. The applicants were three of the seven laboratory
technicians employed at Mission Memorial Hospital who were diagnosed with breast cancer. Katrina
Hammer, Patricia Schmidt, and Anne MacFarlane argued that there is a causation between their
workplace and their development of breast cancer. They each applied for compensation under the
Workers Compensation Act (Act) on the basis that the cancer was an occupational disease which was
denied by Compensation review officer Hammer, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They questioned the approach taken by the Tribunal in its approach to determine causation. The
Tribunal appealed to the Supreme Court to re examine earlier decisions to determine whether they
were unreasonable. The parties involved in this case are the Fraser Health Authority along with
Hammer, Schmidt and MacFarlane. In a split decision, the majority emphasized the need for evidence
to determine causation. The decision in Fraser Health Authority was not unanimous, as Justice Côté
provided the dissenting. Whereas, Justice McLachlin C, Abella, Moldaver, Karaktanis, Wagner and
Brown JJ provided the majority. Interveners in this case include the Attorney General of Canada, the
Attorney General of Ontario, the Ontario Network of Injured Workers Groups, the Industrial Accident
Victims Group of Ontario, the Community Legal Assistance Society and the British Columbia
Federation of Labour. The SCC had to establish whether the WCAT has exclusive jurisdiction to
determine, on appeal under the Act, whether the nature of the employment was linked to the
development of the workers breast

A University s Ethics
As Americans look towards the idea of college today, some may agree that the overall goals of a
university have drastically changed since the popularity of higher education has increased. If one were
to ask the universities what their core values consist of, most institutions would boast about student
academics and growth being at the top of the list. As this response may ring true with most colleges in
the US, specifically smaller schools, the increase in funds for research and athletic programs have
seemingly overtaken the attention of larger, more competitive universities. Higher education has
become a more popular choice among ambitious adults, providing them an opportunity to move up in
the working world. Further, with this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students, paying thousands of dollars a year to attend college, deserve to receive a decent education;
however, this is an ambiguous outcome when the professors are not being compensated as well as they
should be. The educators are delivering the actual learning work while most administrative positions
sit in an office all day and get paid more than twice as much for their labor.
The values surrounding university athletics have also become a controversial topic of interest among
Americans. Over the years, collegiate sports, especially football and basketball, have evolved into
commercialized teams around the country. Almost to the level of a professional team, college athletes
receive special treatment and an excess of benefits; one of the most significant benefits that most of
these athletes collect is free tuition. Depending on the school, colleges will additionally cover a
student s housing, dining, and supply fees; not to mention all of the free equipment that already comes
with being a college athlete. Derek Bok of the Princeton University Press writes an article about the
commercialization and corruption of college athletics, saying, Admissions offices are importuned to

The Four Psychological Theories Of Personality
Personality is one of the concepts that often be used by social scientists.According to Schultz (2009),
Personality can be defined as the unique, relatively enduring internal and external aspects of a person s
character that influence behaviour in different situations . In general, personality theories can be
classified based on four major approaches which are psychoanalytic theory, trait theory, social
learning theory, and humanistic theory (Refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1). In personality concepts,
Freudian theory was a well known theory and widely been used. Stevens (1994) stated that this
psychoanalytic perspective was originated from Viennese students, Sigmund Freud who was born in
1856. There are three levels of consciousness: conscious, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The cause behind all this was a loophole in Irish tax law. Loophole is when there is inadequacy in law

Furthermore, in 2013 European commission rules that EU countries were not allowed to offer tax

Tao Te Ching Themes
The Tao Te Ching is a historic Chinese text that is famously known for its rich commentary on a
variety of spiritual, ethical, and political topics. A couple themes that are touched in the Tao Te Ching
typically deal with the notion of virtue, benevolence, and so forth. In this paper, I will examine four
specific stanzas from the Tao Te Ching, illustrate the applicability and relevancy of themes such as
materialistic possessions, inner peace, humility accountability, political leadership, and demonstrate
that such themes can help us re evaluate our values in today s society in the path for a harmonious
lifestyle.

For instance, this is touched upon in Stanza 57, which states that , If you want to be a great leader, you
must learn to follow the Tao.
Stop trying to control. Let go of fixed plans and concepts, and the world will govern itself . From this,
the Tao Te Ching explicitly states that we must let go of our need to control. Great leaders are
individuals who do not monitor or control every facet, but rather trust in the process of the outcome,
and allow the good to flourish for itself. In particular, this relates to the current atmosphere of
American politics in how control has negatively impacted Trump s presidency, and how such actions
has affected the global image for America. Furthermore, this is spiritually meaningful as the Tao Te
Ching wants us to follow the flow of the Tao, or the harmony of the universe. In short, an obsessive or
controlling individual will not live a life that is filled with happiness and harmony. Tyrannical leaders

there is a low amount of rainfall and the wet season is where there is a large amount. Here in the

The Human Diet And Its Effect On Our Society
The human diet is shaped in evolution. We spent millions of years in a foraging lifestyle and our
genome still expects us to eat this way (Gluckman et al., 2016). But recently we have adopted a new
post industrial lifestyle that seems to go against our genetic makeup because there is an increasing
trend of metabolic diseases in our society. We noticed this trend decades ago and have been trying to
explain it. In 1962, geneticist James Neel proposed the thrifty gene hypothesis, saying that some of
our ancient ancestors with a gene variant that allowed them to store calories as fat prevailed because it
gave a survival edge during times of famine (Johnson and Andrews, 2015). That is a great advantage

Medical professionals, manufacturers, and consumers are all aware of the negative impacts of added

Artificial sweeteners are known by many different names: low calorie sweeteners (LCS), low and non

(NAS) (Riobó Serván, Sierra Poyatos, Soldo Rodríguez, 2014). They can be divided into two groups:

Public Perception of Person s with Disability

dangerous are some stereotypical values that are disrespectfully bestowed on mentally challenged
people. (Lewis, 2006) The public is now able to view mentally handicapped conditions through the

The ranch owner s daughter in law in Of Mice and Men is very compassionate and inquisitive towards
Lennie. She is very lonely and Lennie was willing to listen due to his infatuation with her beauty.
George had warned Lennie to stay away from her, as she would lead to something bad due to the
jealousy her husband exhibited toward her. The woman, however, appeals to Lennie s childish side
and she coerces him to be her friend. This proves to be a grave mistake in the end. Another similarity
between the two movies is the fact that the duos are living in search of their dreams. The dream in
Rain Man at first is based on the inheritance. Charlie s plan is to become Raymond s custodial
guardian in order to get his part of the money. As the story continues, Charlie comes to love and
respect Raymond as the brother he never knew. His question at the beginning of the story, Why didn t
somebody tell me I had a brother? was very symbolic of his perception. (Levinson, 1988) He made no
comment about the fact that his brother was in an institution, just the fact that he had a brother. The
dream the show hinges on after brotherly connections are made became one of family. Charlie wanted
to care for Raymond and help him succeed in life. Dreams George and Lennie also based their lives on
achieving a dream. Lennie would frequently ask Geoge to tell him bout those rabbits; how he s gonna

looked down upon. In fact, the Enlightenment period was obsessed with the self abhorring... figure of
the cannibal (Cottom 2001). However, the modern cannibal is drastically different from the cannibals
from the past. Cannibalism has evolved from a cultural norm in prehistoric history, to medicinal use in
the middle ages to finally sexual cannibalism in the present. One of the most famous cases of
cannibalism is Jeffery Dahmer. From a young age, Dahmer was obsessed with death. His father,
Lionel Dahmer, recollected on the time when young Jeffery first showed a peculiar interest in death;
as Lionel was picking up animal bones from the lawn, he noticed Jeffery, oddly thrilled by the sound
they made. His small hands dug deep into the pile of bones. [Lionel could] no longer view it simply as
a childish episode, a passing fascination. This same sense of something dark and shadowy, of a
malicious force growing in [his] son, now colors almost every memory. (Bradsley n.d.) By the time
Dahmer was convicted, he murdered seventeen boys and men, many of his murders involved
necrophilia, cannibalism and the preservation of their bodies. Dahmer was so infamous in America
that he inspired movies and a comic book, which once wrought protests in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
(Williams 1992). During his trial, Dahmer explained his lust for human destruction, ...it took more

Software as a Service
Many years ago, to use software, businesses and organizations purchase traditionally packaged
applications, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, and install them locally onto their
computers. In the 1990 s, upon the expansion of the Internet, Application Service Provider (ASP) was
introduced wherein businesses were provided with software that they can access over the Internet
through a web browser. But then, service and financial failures occurred as a result of actions such as
rushing the market offerings before issues were solved and failing to cut the costs for the customers at
a greater extent because of having a unique server for each customer. Those scalability problems or
the ability to adapt to increasing demands, and reliability problems eventually led to its downfall.
Software as a Service (SaaS) or also known as on demand then evolved from the ASP model. With
SaaS, software is not installed in the customer s computer but in the provider s server somewhere else,
and to access the software, the customer needs to connect to that server through either a thin
client, which is a computer or a program that relies on another computer, or a web browser such as
Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. Basically, it is also a software delivery model.
But unlike the ASP, it has increased user awareness and is a multi tenant based service which means
that repairs, updates, and upgrades are applied once for all customers instead of one at a time, making

The Impact Of The Roaring Twenties
F. Scott Fitzgerald once stated, The parties were bigger, the pace was faster, the shows were broader,
the buildings were higher, the morals were looser, and the liquor was cheaper. The time after the war
known as the Roaring Twenties harbored change for not only the economy but for the people also.
Credit materialized, becoming available for citizens to use on new products such as the vacuum
cleaner and the materializes, washing machine which allotted more time for the people to have to
themselves. The 1920s, a time of celebration and prosperity, eventually ended as a result of a sudden
economic crash, because of the effects from the times. During the World War I (1914 1918), women
accepted the jobs that men had been working before they went on to fight for the U.S. Many women
worked in factories, with heavy machinery, on farms, or even in offices as clerks. After the war, many
women kept their jobs as clerks and secretaries. They obtained the right to vote in 1920 with the 19th
amendment, which set loose the ideas of even more independence and a need to change the ideals of
women. Post war prosperity gave way to credit being opened for the people to use. Research showed,
Low prices and generous credit made cars affordable luxuries at the beginning of the decade; by the
end, they were practically necessities ( The Roaring Twenties ). Citizens were now allowed to buy
goods they previously could not purchase with regular pay from low income jobs. Based on some

Book Review Korea
I confess that before reading the book Korea: The Impossible Country (and taking classes in college),
I did not know much about South Korea or North Korea. The focus of this book is on South Korea but
as both Koreas are historically intertwined, North Korea is also many times cited or referred to in the
pages of this work. Korea: The Impossible Country, written by the journalist and writer Daniel Tudor
and published by Tuttle Publisher Tokyo, is a book acclaimed by the international press. The author is
a correspondent for the Economist in Korea. He is also a regular contributor to Newsweek Korea and
other publications. Tudor has gained a solid educational background in the Oxford and Manchester

Parents spend real fortunes investing in their children s education in order to improve their fluency in
English (and in other subjects). Many families spend a third of their income with private lessons,
textbooks, standardized tests (such as TOEFL) and international interchange programs. The author
concludes that the costs outweigh the benefits as there is an unhealthy lack of balance between studies
and social/parental pressure with sleeping hours and leisure. In the penultimate part of the book, the
author offers a glimpse of what Koreans do when they are not working. He talks about how the hanok,
the classical Korean home, was replaced by uniform apartment buildings with no sense of aesthetics in
larger cities to accommodate the waves of people moving to urban areas in the past half century. He
points out that Korean opinion makers are bringing back value in the historic and a new interest in the
traditional hanok has come up. This elite is rediscovering the environmental advantages of the hanok,
which is normally constructed of natural material. There s a growing demand in the construction of
modernized hanoks, which matches the functionality of the giant apartment buildings with the

Benjamin Bush Informative Speech
On the fateful September day nine years ago, Bush s first inkling of the unfolding tragedy came as he
walked into a classroom in Florida to read to a group of young children. On the short walk from the
motorcade to the classroom, Karl Rove mentioned that an airplane had crashed into the World Trade
Centre. That sounded strange. I envisioned a little propeller plane horribly lost, writes Bush. But then
his national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, called to tell him that what he thinks is a small plane
is actually a commercial airliner. I was stunned. That plane must have had the worst pilot in the world.
How could he possibly have flown into a skyscraper on a clear day? Maybe he had a heart attack,
writes Bush. The president may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The president looks as though he has been paralysed by shock. For seven minutes he sits there before
a group of children, immobile while America was under attack. But Bush says he was thinking. I
looked at the faces of the children in front of me. I thought about the contrast between the brutality of
the attacks and the innocence of those children. Millions like them would soon be counting on me to
protect them. I was determined not to let them down, Bush writes. The reading lesson continued, but
my mind raced far from the classroom. Who could have done this? How bad was the damage? What
did the government need to do? Bush finally leaves the class and is ushered into another room to
watch TV coverage of the attacks. The president s first impulse is to get on television himself. I
watched in horror as the footage of the second plane hitting the south tower replayed in slow motion.
The huge fireball and explosion of smoke were worse than I had imagined. The country would be
shaken, and I needed to get on TV right away, he says. He drafted a few words longhand and duly
appeared to begin: Ladies and gentlemen, this is a difficult moment for America

Hard Work Makes Champions On January 25, 1951, one of America s greatest runners was born,
Steve Prefontaine. He was a very determined young man. His free time was almost always spent
running on the beach, dunes, golf courses, pretty much everywhere. He ran four to eight miles a day.
His hard work finally payed off when he won the Oregon State title, during his junior year. This shows
you can accomplish anything as long as you work your hardest and set your mind to it. Steve was born

and how slow he learned. During junior high, Pre was a football benchwarmer, for he was only five
feet tall and one hundred pounds. He was often discriminated against because of his height, which is
why he stayed on the bench a majority of the time. Once Steve became a Freshman at Marshfield High

The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test Countercultures
Counterculture can be described as a way of life and a set of attitudes that is opposed to the social
norm. In the 1960s, the counterculture started to form to allow those citizens that were unhappy with
the time period to show their disgust with the norm. While many protests going on during this time
period were for equality, peace, and love, the counterculture was focused more on psychedelics and
sex. The counterculture wanted to become noticed to share their knowledge with others. Ken Kesey,
the main character from the novel The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe, was the starter of
the counterculture. Readers can infer that the dress, popular music, and drugs and thus shaped the

Before the 1960s, drug use was typically only found through jazz musicians and some minority s. The
drugs that were used were marijuana, heroine, and cocaine (Ragen 76). However, the FBI created LSD
to help Vietnam veterans with PTSD. Ken Kesey then started using it and discovered this new
experience from the drugs. The drugs created an enlightened vision of the world. Thus creating the
LSD and hallucinogen craze. This phenomenon brought thousands of teenagers, into San Francisco for
a life based on LSD and the psychedelic thing, (Wolfe 11). Some people saw the LSD movement as
the future, considering that thousands of people moved just to take part in it. However, others only
saw this as a current fantasy . They are, if not playing the cops and robbers game, playing at being
outlaws. The state s arbitrary drug laws, like ordinary standards of dress and decorum, simply give
them what they need most: a convention to flout in order to validate their outlawry, (Ragen 98).
Stating this made it seem as if the Merry Pranksters were posing as rebels. Ken Kesey did end up
living back in Oregon, with his wife and kids. The same spot he started in. The psychedelic era did
end, but drug use, however, is still apart of society today, and the counterculture is to thank for

Voter Turnout Research Paper
Elections are an important part of creating a legitimate state. They allow us to have a say in how
decisions are made in a government. However, the voter turnout for an election does not have an effect
on the type of regime that will develop in a state. It does not matter if the election is in an authoritarian
government or a democratic one, the regime does not have a large impact on the turnout of voters.
What matters in voter turnout is whether the citizens believe in the regime. If they feel that the state is
legitimate then they are more likely to vote. Also, if the voters believe that their vote counts and is not
a wasted vote then you are more likely to have a larger voter turnout. For example, the International

Loss Of Innocence In Joyce Carol Oates Life After High School
Guilt, Fear, and Rejection: Loss of Innocence in Life after High School In her short story, Life After
High School, Joyce Carol Oates explores the loss of innocence experienced by the main characters,
Barbara Sunny Burhman and Zachary Graff, through the use of literary devices such as story structure
and characterization. In order to emphasize the loss of innocence in both characters, Oates divides her
story into three distinct parts. She begins by looking back on Zachary calling at Sunny s window on
what she describes as that last night . In the third person narrative, Oates briefly depicts the
circumstances of that night, as well as Barbara s later feelings toward the event. Oates includes this
compressed summary of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the story, Oates increases Zachary s presence in Sunny s life, progressively making him
into an obsessed and disillusioned stalker. His manner changes the most drastically, however, after
being rejected by Sunny and Tobias. Although it is apparent he is attached to Sunny, it is after his
proposal is turned down that he becomes desperate and aggressive and eventually decides to commit
suicide. When isolated, it appears that is the moment where Zachary loses his innocence, but by
including Barbara s conversation with Tobias years later, it is revealed that this may not be necessarily
true. Oates creates a parallel between Tobias and Zachary s relationship to that of Zachary and Sunny.
She also explores Zachary s guilt in being perverted sinful in his soul... thoughts, deeds, and desires.
(Page 577) This calls into question Zachary s view of his own purity: whether he believed himself
debauched because of his homosexuality. It is possible that he could have become corrupt simply by
denying its existence, and was unvirtuous throughout the story. Through Zachary s aggressively
obsessive behavior and the revelation of his guilt, Oates emphasizes his lack of innocence in the

Human Geography And Development Studies
In today s world people, places, societies and environments are constantly changing. Both natural and
human created events, shape the world and create strong relationships between the environment and
society. Human geography and development studies are two fields seeking to analyse these
interrelationships and answer key questions about major issues in the world such as poverty, inequality
and conflict. Human geography is largely about studying the spatial aspects of relationships between
people and society whereas development studies focusses more on the way societies function,
focussing on issues such as poverty and inequality as well as the way in which developing nations
function compared to developed nations. Through examples of poverty and inequality this essay will
explain the ways in which development studies and human geography overlap and the ways in which
they are different in their analyses.
Human geography is defined as The study of interrelationships between people, places and
environment and how these vary spatially and temporally across and between locations (Castree,
Kitchin and Rogers, 2013). It looks at how society shapes the environment and vice versa. Although
physical geography and human geography are separate fields they both concentrate on spatial
processes; physical geography more on the natural and physical sciences and human geography on the
way in which human lives are shaped by processes in nature (Castree et al., 2013). A key principle of

The Literary And Artistic Romanticism Movement
John Constable was a 18th and 19th century English artist whose work has coincided with the literary
and artistic Romanticism movement. His works included many painting and sketches of the natural
world and environment which was one of the hallmarks of Romantic works. A lot of his work did not
cover the theme of ruins until later in his life and especially after the death of his wife. His oil on
canvas painting, Hadleigh Castle, The Mouth of the Thames Morning after a Stormy Night depicts the
ruins of a medieval stronghold known by the same name of Hadleigh Castle after a storm has ravaged
the area over night. However, it is important to note the context in which this work was created in. In
1828, Constable s wife had passed away and this led to a shift in his own artistic work. In addition,
Constable had also been inducted into the Royal Academy but he was criticized and scrutinized by the
president of the organization which also led to a change in Constable s style and themes. The setting
of the artwork is very gloomy and somber and this has a lot to do with these events that had taken
place in his life during the creation of the piece. Yet, despite the depressing emotions the image
initially evokes, there is also this aspect of renewal and resurrection that is created by the artwork. In
an article titled Constable, John, Michael Rosenthal from Oxford University stated, Constable later
though a ruin a suitable symbol for himself, but the iconography of this painting

  • 2. Hamlet Essay Hamlet Each major character of Shakespeare s Hamlet has a major flaw, which destroys him or her. The King, Queen, Hamlet, Ophelia, and Polonius all have these flaws but Horatio does not. He is Shakespeare s ideal man. Claudius fatal flaw is ambitiousness. Claudius kills his brother King Hamlet and then takes the throne by marrying King Hamlet s wife: Therefore our sometime sister, now our queen...have we (as twere with a defeated joy, with an auspicious and a dropping eye, with mirth in funeral and with dirge in marriage, in equal scale weighing delight and dole) taken to wife (I.ii.10 14). [She drinks] King: [aside] It is the poisoned cup. It is too late... Queen: No, no, the drink, the drink! O, my dear Hamlet! The drink, the drink! I am poisoned. Hamlet s passivity is his flaw. The deceased King Hamlet s ghost tells Hamlet to get revenge: Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (I.v.31) and by telling him this he misses the opportunity to kill King Claudius: Now might I do it *pat*, now he is a praying, and now I ll do t. And so he goes to heaven, and so am I *revenged*...A villain kills my father, and for that, I, his sole son, do this same villain send to heaven. Why, this is [something Claudius should pay me for], not revenge. She continues to watch those in power, including those over the teaching school where she now resides. When she learns that a favorite teacher and then her best friend, Cousin Hu, had been Communists and had been either chased from the city or executed for their political beliefs, she makes up her mind that she, too, will become a Communist. Chapter 5: De hong asks to be a part of the communist movement but she s found too young. A short time later, she begins distributing Communist literature. The economic situation is so bad that the family has no savings and Dr. Xia, now nearly eighty, is worried about what will happen when he dies. Extortion is rampant, food is scarce, and the money that does exist has almost no value. De hong becomes friendly with a Kuomintang general. Using his military freedom, they travel outside the walled city occasionally and De hong leaves messages for her Communist counterparts.. The Communists then start regular bombardment of the city, including one dud shell that crashes into the home of De hong s family. • 4. Coors Brewing Company Executive Summary Subject: Business Strategy Executive Summary: Throughout most of its history, the Coors Brewing Company (Coors) has been a regionalized brewer within the United States, specializing in high quality beer through by virtue of its source water selection, stringent production standards, and cold filtered brewing approach. As the company expanded its distribution to new markets within the U.S. in attempt to gain market share, it made a strategic decision to maintain a majority of its brewing operations at its primary production facility in Golden, Colorado. This decision was based upon the desire to preserve its core production strengths through close family control. However, as the company desires to expand its market presence beyond the ... Besides, Coors made up for the inefficiency with the scale of their plant, the largest in the nation. The location lent itself well to Coors ability to differentiate its product. For example Coors was brewed using pure Rocky Mountain spring water. Coors had a great opportunity to serve an underserved geographical market. Seven of 24 million barrels sold in the region had to be imported from production facilities outside of the region, and Coors Colorado facility was more central to the area than the three other closest facilities in Missouri, Texas, and Wisconsin. Coors had the second lowest production cost per barrel in the industry, in spite of their claim of the most expensive raw material costs. Their cost advantage stemmed from the industry s highest capacity utilization, economies of scale through the country s largest brewery, single product focus, and the industry s fastest packaging lines. Matching their low production cost was the lowest advertising cost relative to the industry. The mystique that had been built up about Coors and their differentiating, all natural appeal allowed them to get away with lower advertising costs than average for the industry. • 5. Why Canadians Are Frustrated With Their Legislatures Good morning everyone. Today I will be covering David Docherty s book Legislatures. The work covers various aspects of the functions, procedures and evolution of Canadian legislatures, both provincial and federal. The analysis undertaken by Docherty, as expressed in his own words, constitutes an audit of the existing legislatures and their procedures as they have historically operated as well as in their modern iterations. Docherty s analysis, broadly speaking, is an investigation into how internal processes and systems contribute to the lack of satisfaction and relative distrust Canadians have in their governments to be effective at their mandate of prudent governance. In order to understand why Canadians are frustrated with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Representation inclusivity has therefore made large strides in provincial and federal parliaments, but elections remain the strongest way to increase inclusivity through the election of brand new members. Docherty addresses criticism both internally and externally of the governing party. Internally Docherty suggests that while advances for nonpartisan selection of specific roles, such as the Speaker, have been successful in achieving some neutrality, party discipline and loyalty to the executive remain incredibly strong in Canada making internal dissention both politically and strategically unwise for members of a governing party. Externally of the government, parties and individual MP s do not receive the same type of research support as well as funding as those which hold particular positions such as Ministers or meet standards set by the Board of Internal Economy. While oppositions can scrutinize in the form of Question Period (QP) or Private Members Bills (PMB) these measures have become more symbolic and theatrically politicized than they have been historically leading to more talk and much less action. Finally turning to legislation, Docherty highlights particular trends in Canadian legislatures that are impacting the quality and timely nature of legislation. Firstly, the downsizing of legislatures occurring across Canada. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Unit 36 Research Paper Although there are quite a few ways to arrange the given variables to get 36, the first equation that pops into my mind is: 3N+D=36 When I read through the list of variables, I settled on the very last one, N=11, and divided 36 by it to get 3r3. I, then, scanned back over the list of values to find the corresponding variable for 3 to add to 33 and balance the equation. Though I chose to go this route, as stated in my opening, there are many ways to get 36 with the given values. These values range from 0 11 and some of them, as we know, are factors of 36 (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 9). The fact that so many of the values are factors is a clear indication that there is definitely, as the old adage says, more than one way to skin the cat . To form an equation we have the following options. We can (a) choose a complete factor set from the list of values which would form a quick and neat equation like 6^2=36, 6*6=36, and 9*4=36, or (b) pick one of the other variables whose value is not a part of a complete factor set, in which case the equation would be more complex, but one could easily manipulate it by adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing a combination of the other variables until the equation is balanced. ... For example, I often use stories of my personal life experiences to encourage my children when they are faced with certain obstacles. Now, although the path I took allowed me to overcome that obstacle, it may not be a suitable path for this particular child so I always make sure to close the story with telling them that even though I shared my story (or my equation), my story is not necessarily THE way but simply A way to overcome the obstacle. and I m only sharing to show that it CAN be ... • 7. Comparison Of Homelessness In The Homeless Homelessness in Columbus, GA In 2005 an estimated 100 million people were homeless worldwide, and as many as 1.6 billion were without proper housing. Homelessness is an often overlooked problem; people do not realize the extremities of it. In fact, Columbus, GA has one of the highest homelessness rates in Georgia. Homeless people are all over; they are in our backyard. People look over them every day on their way to work, school, and home. They are regular people just like everyone else, yet no one takes care of them. Unfortunate situations can happen to anyone, and when they do people reach out and do what they need to take care of them; so why do people not do that for the homeless? This is a problem that desperately needs help. In Boston, they have what is called Housing First. This is an organization that goes out to the homeless communities, finds them apartments, helps them to get a job and provides a way for them to get their life back on track. In Columbus, we need to start something similar called Community First. Homeless People are constantly blamed themselves for their situation, but often times it has nothing to do with anything they have done. People can become homeless in a number of ways. A University s Ethics As Americans look towards the idea of college today, some may agree that the overall goals of a university have drastically changed since the popularity of higher education has increased. If one were to ask the universities what their core values consist of, most institutions would boast about student academics and growth being at the top of the list. As this response may ring true with most colleges in the US, specifically smaller schools, the increase in funds for research and athletic programs have seemingly overtaken the attention of larger, more competitive universities. The educators are delivering the actual learning work while most administrative positions sit in an office all day and get paid more than twice as much for their labor. The values surrounding university athletics have also become a controversial topic of interest among Americans. Over the years, collegiate sports, especially football and basketball, have evolved into commercialized teams around the country. Almost to the level of a professional team, college athletes receive special treatment and an excess of benefits; one of the most significant benefits that most of these athletes collect is free tuition. Depending on the school, colleges will additionally cover a student s housing, dining, and supply fees; not to mention all of the free equipment that already comes with being a college athlete. Great leaders are individuals who do not monitor or control every facet, but rather trust in the process of the outcome, and allow the good to flourish for itself. In particular, this relates to the current atmosphere of American politics in how control has negatively impacted Trump s presidency, and how such actions has affected the global image for America. • 17. The Human Diet And Its Effect On Our Society The human diet is shaped in evolution. We spent millions of years in a foraging lifestyle and our genome still expects us to eat this way (Gluckman et al., 2016). But recently we have adopted a new post industrial lifestyle that seems to go against our genetic makeup because there is an increasing trend of metabolic diseases in our society. We noticed this trend decades ago and have been trying to explain it. In 1962, geneticist James Neel proposed the thrifty gene hypothesis, saying that some of our ancient ancestors with a gene variant that allowed them to store calories as fat prevailed because it gave a survival edge during times of famine (Johnson and Andrews, 2015). That is a great advantage during Paleolithic times when food could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So instead of curtailing a sugar addiction, scientists and manufactures created a healthy alternative: artificial sweeteners. But artificial sweeteners are not a healthy alternative because they too negatively impact metabolic health. Artificial sweeteners are known by many different names: low calorie sweeteners (LCS), low and non calorie sweeteners (LNCS), non nutritive sweeteners (NNS), and non caloric artificial sweeteners (NAS) (Riobó Serván, Sierra Poyatos, Soldo Rodríguez, 2014). They can be divided into two groups: nutritive sweeteners, which add some energy value (calories) and non nutritive sweeteners, which are intensely sweet and add no energy value (Neacsu and Madar, 2014). The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has approved five artificial sweeteners safe for human consumption and they are: acesulfame, aspartame, neotame, saccharin, and sucralose (Ludwig, 2011). Public Perception of Person s with Disability Public Perception of Persons with Disability A Comparison of Two Movies: Rain Man (1988) and Of Mice and Men (1981) Introduction Stereotypes constantly accompany different groups of people. This is true of mentally handicapped people as well. Labels such as slow , stupid , ignorant , and even dangerous are some stereotypical values that are disrespectfully bestowed on mentally challenged people. (Lewis, 2006) The public is now able to view mentally handicapped conditions through the media. Ideas gained from viewing various forms of media coverage of handicapped persons can prove to be both positive and negative. The woman, however, appeals to Lennie s childish side and she coerces him to be her friend. This proves to be a grave mistake in the end. Another similarity between the two movies is the fact that the duos are living in search of their dreams. The dream in Rain Man at first is based on the inheritance. Charlie s plan is to become Raymond s custodial guardian in order to get his part of the money. As the story continues, Charlie comes to love and respect Raymond as the brother he never knew. His question at the beginning of the story, Why didn t somebody tell me I had a brother? was very symbolic of his perception. (Levinson, 1988) He made no comment about the fact that his brother was in an institution, just the fact that he had a brother. The dream the show hinges on after brotherly connections are made became one of family. Charlie wanted to care for Raymond and help him succeed in life. In fact, the Enlightenment period was obsessed with the self abhorring... figure of the cannibal (Cottom 2001). However, the modern cannibal is drastically different from the cannibals from the past. Cannibalism has evolved from a cultural norm in prehistoric history, to medicinal use in the middle ages to finally sexual cannibalism in the present. One of the most famous cases of cannibalism is Jeffery Dahmer. From a young age, Dahmer was obsessed with death. His father, Lionel Dahmer, recollected on the time when young Jeffery first showed a peculiar interest in death; as Lionel was picking up animal bones from the lawn, he noticed Jeffery, oddly thrilled by the sound they made. His small hands dug deep into the pile of bones. [Lionel could] no longer view it simply as a childish episode, a passing fascination. This same sense of something dark and shadowy, of a malicious force growing in [his] son, now colors almost every memory. (Bradsley n.d.) By the time Dahmer was convicted, he murdered seventeen boys and men, many of his murders involved necrophilia, cannibalism and the preservation of their bodies. • 21. Software as a Service Many years ago, to use software, businesses and organizations purchase traditionally packaged applications, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, and install them locally onto their computers. In the 1990 s, upon the expansion of the Internet, Application Service Provider (ASP) was introduced wherein businesses were provided with software that they can access over the Internet through a web browser. But then, service and financial failures occurred as a result of actions such as rushing the market offerings before issues were solved and failing to cut the costs for the customers at a greater extent because of having a unique server for each customer. Those scalability problems or the ability to adapt to increasing demands, and reliability problems eventually led to its downfall. Software as a Service (SaaS) or also known as on demand then evolved from the ASP model. With SaaS, software is not installed in the customer s computer but in the provider s server somewhere else, and to access the software, the customer needs to connect to that server through either a thin client, which is a computer or a program that relies on another computer, or a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. Basically, it is also a software delivery model. But unlike the ASP, it has increased user awareness and is a multi tenant based service which means that repairs, updates, and upgrades are applied once for all customers instead of one at a time, making ... After the war, many women kept their jobs as clerks and secretaries. They obtained the right to vote in 1920 with the 19th amendment, which set loose the ideas of even more independence and a need to change the ideals of women. Both natural and human created events, shape the world and create strong relationships between the environment and society. Human geography is largely about studying the spatial aspects of relationships between people and society whereas development studies focusses more on the way societies function, focussing on issues such as poverty and inequality as well as the way in which developing nations function compared to developed nations.
