2. The Central Lesson By Jack Welch
Thesis The central lesson the author, Jack Welch, is trying to teach is how to win in the business and
corporate world from usually the point of view of a CEO or manager. Winning companies are the only
things that count because losing has no value to anyone. As I read the book, I came to the reasoning
that Welch s major lesson here is that a business and its CEO will win through candor. Candor had its
own chapter but was also mentioned throughout the whole book, highlighting that candor takes part in
every aspect he discussed in business in order to win. Candor is part of hiring, firing, Six Sigma,
budgeting, leadership, and several other aspects. Most importantly though, it is essential to strategy a
significant topic discussed in this course. Welch defines candor as the biggest dirty little secret in
business . He argues that candor has hurt firms, in which they could have been better off and he is
speaking internally, not the external competition. Candor leads to winning by: getting more people in
the conversation which develops rich ideas; creating speed, meaning it is right there and then where
you can debate quickly; and, it decreases costs such as those long boring meetings discussing known
information (27). It really caught my attention how Welch commented that the lack of candor comes
from our childhoods and backgrounds where we know that staying quiet helps us avoid troubles,
messes, awkwardness, rejection, more work, and the like. How does one overcome

3. Riordan Manufacturing And Development Of Riordan
Riordan Manufacturing is a Fortune 1000 enterprise employing 550 individuals and consist of an
annual earnings of $46 million along with an excess of $1 billion in revenue. This is being
accomplished by the production of plastics in different facilities consisting of: beverages, custom
parts, and fan parts. These facilities are located in Albany, Georgia; Pontiac, Michigan; and Hangzhou,
China which coordinate with the headquarters that is located in San Jose. The San Jose location is also
where the Research and Development of Riordan takes place. These locations create plastic products
that are distributed to some manufacturing merchants in the automotive parts, aircraft, beverages and
bottlers, and appliances along with providing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From there the company expanded again in 1993 to include the manufacturing of plastic beverage
containers in a plant located in Albany, Georgia. However, it took some seven years later in 2000
when Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. expanded to include the China location where the fan division was
moved to. This is where the manufacturing plant in Michigan was changed over to handle the custom
plastic parts and allow the China s division to handle the plastic fan parts.
Within each division of this organization there is a separate operating system for the Finance and
Accounting system that was not considered when each one was acquired. This means that each
division is working on a system that is different from the other division but has a set of basic
components which are: General Ledger
Accounts Payable
Accounts Receivable
Order Entry
Procurement
Sales and Purchasing History
Invoicing and Shipping
Payroll
Financial Reporting
EDI
Bard Code Reading
EDSS (Executive Decision Support System)
The fact that each division has a separate operating system for the Finance and Accounting operating
system has created quite a problem in bringing compatibility between them. Depending on the system
it can arrive either in a data file, hardcopy that must be entered, or data files that have to be converted
to account codes. This makes the statement and balance sheets completed anywhere from 15 20 days
after month end making it labor intensive.

A war that started 1860 and ended 1865 there was blood shed all over Texas land, this was called the

in the civil war? There were three main reason why Texans fought in the civil war, to protect state
rights, there love for Texas, and to preserve slavery. Those are the reasons why many men sacrificed
there life for Texas. One reason that Texas fought in the civil war was to protect state rights. Abraham

5. Rape And The Mortal Rapists
In ancient Greco Roman mythic narrative rape is depicted as a normalised and often essential
paradigm that is used to show the gods dominance over lesser beings. Numerous accounts represent
the gods as having transcended the boundaries of justice and morality by highlighting their exemption
from prosecution for rape in contrast to mortal rapists, who cannot avoid punishment. Furthermore,
aetiological rape myths reveal that only the gods could bring about creation through rape, whether it
be the birth of divine offspring, the dawn of natural phenomena or the founding of new institutions. In
this light, the divine rapists are better than the mortal rapists because at least their penetration can
prove productive for narrative continuity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, mortal barbarian Tereus, who had locked up his sister in law in a hut in the woods
and had raped and mutilated her, is served up his son Itys for supper as a form of revenge from his
wife Procne . Likewise, Ajax and his fleet her subject to Athena s wrath after he robs Cassandra of her
maidenhood in the goddess s temple . Thus, these mortal rapists seem to be bound to an ill fate while
the gods are exempt from accountability. After closer examination it is noticed that there are tonal and
textual differences between the myths of divine rapists and mortal rapist, these differences providing
support as to why rape by gods seems less punishable than compared to rape committed by mortal
men. Much of the Daphne and Apollo story carries a sense of excitement and titillation as Ovid
replaces sexually explicit rape with descriptions of Daphne s beauty and her running away: She was
graceful to see, as the wind bared her limbs and its gusts stirred her garments ... he gave the fleeing
maiden no respite, but followed close on her heels, and his breath touched the locks that lay scattered
on her neck. (Ovid, Metamorphoses 1.526 7, 541 3) Apollo could have seized and raped her
immediately but instead attempts to woe her with words in a courtly manner. Upon Daphne turning
into a laurel tree Apollo declares: You (Daphne: laurel) will accompany the generals of Rome, when

6. Chemical Structure Of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene
Chemical structure
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (chemical formula (C8H8)x·(C4H6)y·(C3H3N)z) is a graft copolymer
synthetised from polymerisation of three monomers, acrylonitrile, 1,3 butadiene and styrene which are
shown in Figure 1, and the side chains of ABS plastic are structurally distinct from the main chain.
Carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen are the main atoms present in ABS polymers with carbon being the
predominant atom. It is a thermoplastic polymer that becomes more pliable when heated and then
becomes harder and more rigid when cooled which is a reversible physical change. Each ABS plastic
has two phases, a continuous phase of styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) and a dispersed phase of
polybutadiene which are shown in Figure 2. The properties of ABS plastic are dependent on the ratios
of monomers and molecular structure of two phases. An ABS polymer is comprised of 21% 27%
acrylonitrile, 12% 25% butadiene and 54% 63% styrene. In addition, an ABS polymer typically
contains 70% 90% SAN phase and 10% 30% rubber phase to meet its optimal commercial
characteristics.
Manufacturing processes of ABS plastic
The general preparation of ABS plastic is to graft a polymerization of acrylonitrile styrene mixture
(SAN phase) in the presence of a suitable rubber component. There are five steps involved in an
emulsion process which are rubber polymerization, agglomeration, grafted polymerization, polymer
recovery and compounding, and all polymerisation reactions take place in the presence of water. The
grafting of SAN phase can be achieved by reacting with an initiator radical () from the polybutadiene:
High levels of emulsifier are then added to maintain a separated suspension during the aqueous phase.
A stable dispersion is formed in the SAN phase after the polybutadiene is partially grafted. The latex
particles are then extracted through a coagulation process and produce an ABS concentrate. After the
compounding process, ABS polymers are produced. The advantages of the emulsion process are that
the resultant ABS resins are more flexible and they can have different hardness, resistance and tensile
strength depending on the different combinations of monomer ratios. However, residual monomers
and solvents will make

7. Young Woman By Ella Thomas Essay
Another young woman, Ella Thomas, described her pregnancy in a manner that further complicates
interpreting historical pregnancy. While having a miscarriage, Ella describes herself as sick but does
not appear to be bothered by the event. Despite experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, Ella does not
describe her pregnancy within these terms. If anything, she finds her symptoms a nuisance (Thomas).
Furthermore, her own pregnancy has led her to sympathize with other pregnant women. She mentions
in the diary that if she had sole management of a plantation that pregnant women would be highly
favored...whether black of white (Thomas). The distinction of sole management here is fascinating
because it implies that her husband would not be in charge in this case, and that if he were in charge
he would be less likely to show favor to pregnant women because he personally could not understand
the experience (Thomas).
Eventually, Ella becomes worried for her health when more serious symptoms begin to manifest. Her
symptoms are so severe that she they frighten [her] with fears of sickness and cause her to call for her
doctor. She notes however, that her physician Dr. Edward Eve does nothing to help her or to alleviate
her symptoms. Days later, her pregnancy miscarries, which she colloquially refers to as an abortion
(Thomas). Despite the bodily trauma, Ella s diary entries continues in good spirits. The actual

8. The Debate Over Abortion On Abortion Essay
So long as political debate has existed in America, there has been a strong tension between the
ideologies of conservatism and liberalism. While there are numerous differences between the two
ideologies, the core of each is expressed clearly through the modern debate of abortion. The vision,
ideals, and assumptions of each ideology can be identified through the way in which each ideology
argues its position on abortion. The debate over abortion has been taking place since the 19th century.
Abortions were legal until the mid 1800s when states began to outlaw them. When the Roe vs Wade
decision was made in 1973, laws affecting abortions existed in 46 states. This Supreme Court decision
affirmed the right for women to have abortions. While the decision was made over forty years ago, the
public debate is as fierce as ever. A popular political action within the anti abortion movement is to
protest outside of Planned Parenthood facilities. Planned Parenthood is a non profit organization
which provides reproductive planning and services to women. Anti abortion activists have targeted
Planned Parenthood because a small percentage of their services include abortion. As a result of the
protests, as well as outrage caused by hidden video from inside a Planned Parenthood center, several
states have defunded the organization. It should be noted that government money is not used at
Planned Parenthood to conduct abortions. There are two main viewpoints on the issue of abortion.

9. The Sliced-Crosswise Only Tuesday World Summary
A. Eternium Cylinders, or stoners as the characters in The Sliced Crosswise Only on Tuesday World
call them, are essentially pods in which people will hibernate until their next day arrives. Eternium
cylinders could be scientifically based on cryonics, in which a person s body will be frozen and their
bodily functions will pause until they are taken out of the chamber. This is significant in The Sliced
Crosswise Only on Tuesday World by Philip Jose Farmer because the world has become
overpopulated and the only way to reduce the stress is to have groups of people live only one day a
week. B. A glittering metallic framework, scarcely larger than a small clock, and very delicately made.
This is an excerpt from H.G. Wells The Time Machine in which the time traveler is displaying a small
replica of his time travel device to his friends. This small model has the same capabilities as its full
size counterpart, as was demonstrated in the novel as the model launched into the future (or the past).
This model is scientifically based in the theory of time travel and how our perception of time could be
altered. This model time machine is significant to the story because the time traveler uses it in an
attempt to convince his friends that he himself is going to be the first person to travel into the future.

10. My Life In America As An Undocumented Immigrants Summary
Outlaw: My Life In America As An Undocumented Immigrant by Jose Antonio Vargas from the New
York Times, is a narrative essay that focuses on telling a story of past events. Vargas proposes that
since he grew up in America that this is considered his home. Vargas believed he would be granted
citizenship if he worked harder and achieved more. His motivation of sharing his childhood journey
would be the relief of him coming forward about his legal status to those who were not aware and to
those who he truly cares about but could not risk sharing his story with. Vargas tone and stance attracts
people who are or have already been through the same path and for those that come to America to live
the American Dream like Vargas intended to. Vargas concludes he is trapped in duplicity and being
dishonest about his legal status is destroying his character. Even though, Vargas convinces me about
his difficult journey as an undocumented immigrant, his belief that coming forward with the truth of
his legal status will allow him to regain his values or the trust of those who he has already lied to is
unconvincing because after all those years it has become a part of his selfhood.
Throughout the essay, Vargas references the inner struggle that he had to face day in and day out. The
fear of being uncover, the stress behind who can be trusted and what he was able to do. Vargas worked
towards gaining a career hoping it would have a positive influence in his legalization status. It means

11. Friar Lawrence To Blame Quotes
Friar Lawrence s role in Romeo and Juliet Who is to blame for the deaths in the end of the play
Romeo and Juliet? Friar Lawrence is a main character who definitely affects the storyline. Some
people might believe that Romeo and Juliet are to blame, but I believe, ultimately, Friar Lawrence is
to blame. Romeo could be to blame because he stupidly fell in love and made Friar Lawrence marry
him and Juliet. Romeo s careless actions brought devastation to the Capulet and Montague s families.

Juliet wanted to get out of an arranged marriage with Paris so badly, she wanted to kill herself. She
was also distraught because Romeo was banned from Verona, and she can t see him. Friar Lawrence
helped her plan to fake her death, he gave her a potion to make her fall asleep for forty two hours.
Take thou this vial, being then in bed, When presently through all thy vein shall run a cold and drowsy
humor; for no pulse shall keep his native progress, but surcease; no warmth, no breath, shall testify
thou livest... (Shakespeare 818). This quote helps show that Friar was helping Juliet. He gives her a
vial of potion that she will take to hibernate. Because of this, Romeo believes Juliet is truly dead and
he kills himself, wanting to be with her. During this time of chaos, Friar Lawrence was supposed to go
down to the cellar and get Juliet so she didn t suffocate, but he didn t help Juliet. He let her kill herself,
which is exactly what happened. Yea, noise? Then I ll be brief. O happy dagger! This is thy sheath;

just wanted them out of there because he heard a noise; he only cares about himself and his safety. He
didn t even bother to save Juliet when she was going crazy and stabbed herself. He left her alone and
attempted to get out of the tomb. He

13. Pros And Cons Of Vaccines
Vaccines are biological preparations, produced from living organisms to enhance immunity against
disease(1).
Vaccine preventable diseases cause important health, societal, and economic burdens worldwide.
Morbidity and mortality from vaccine preventable diseases occur primarily in poor countries. It has
been estimated that out of the approximately 162 million disability adjusted life years (DALYs) that
have been lost around the world from vaccine preventable diseases, over 90% occurred in low income
countries(2). Additionally, it was estimated that 87% of the 2.5 million deaths of children under 5
years of age worldwide have occurred in poor areas of the world(2).
Immunization against vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) is no doubt one of the most successful and
cost effective public health interventions in the history of medicine and biomedical research for
preventing death in children 5 years old(3).It is considered the cornerstone of public health programs,
protects those who are healthy, as well as those who are at high risk of exposure to disease or of
transmitting disease to others,(4) Immunization is a proven tool for controlling and eliminating life
threatening infectious diseases(4).

study the Challenger space shuttle disaster in detail. Our focus will be on different aspects of this
event such as the many purposes which were served by the Challenger space shuttle; we will also
specifically focus on the media s role regarding this event and see how it affected the entire situation.
Overview When a disastrous event like the Challenger (which was also known as STS 51L) shuttle
explosion occurs, the reaction from the media greatly affects the public opinion. In any disaster event
the public support for the mission is greatly affected and this factor can greatly jeopardize any further
missions since the public has a huge amount of interest where their funding goes. It is also seen that
the media skew its reports just for the sake of higher ratings. Background Information The space
shuttle challenger disaster took place on January 28, 1986. It was a space launch mission conducted by
NASA which failed and exploded in air just 73 seconds after liftoff. The seven member crew in the
space died. It is said that they did not die on the initial explosion but later after the Challenger landed.

17. Prison Population Around The World
Samantha Talmo
Professor Wisz
8 August 2016
Research Paper Prison populations around the world are continuing to grow every single day. The
nation s jail population flows like a torrential river with upwards of 12 million individuals moving in
and out of institutions annually (Lyman, 167). The population is continuing to grow in jails because of
the growth in the crime itself. It is debated whether or not nonviolent criminals should be given jail
time. There are other punishments that could be given to criminals that have not created violent
crimes, for example serving community service, being on house arrest and speaking to a parole officer.
Another question that society considers is whether or not in the long run will society itself benefit
from nonviolent criminals not receiving jail time. Society would benefit if nonviolent criminals were
punished in other ways than jail time. Society would benefit since overcrowding in jails wouldn t be
an issue, tax costs would be reduced, and recidivism would decrease as a result. A big issue in prisons
are overcrowding, it was previously stated that 12 million inmates that around the world that is in

amount of people living in one prison. Jails now hold some 730,000 people in custody, more than

18. Old Testament Redemption Essay
In order to prepare an evaluation of the similarities between Old Testament (OT) and New Testament
(NT) redemption I believe it would be appropriate to first start with the definition of redemption.
Redemption defined by The Lexham Bible Dictionary is
The release of people, animals, or property from bondage through the payment of a price.
Old Testament Origins The two Hebrew root words associated with redemption are
1. ל ָּגַא (ga al), meaning redeem or act as a kinsman redeemer
2. הָּפָד (padah), meaning ransom or redeem
One of the most miraculous acts of OT redemption refers to how God enabled Moses to bring the
Israelites out of Egypt after 430 years (Ex 12:40 English Standard Version or ESV) of bondage.
Pharaoh s heart was hard and he would not listen to God s warnings. The price paid was very high for
Pharaoh and the Egyptians. Losing all of their first born children and livestock proved to be too much.
As a result Pharaoh finally decided to release the Israelites. The redemption of God s chosen people

Nunn s lyrics over Rice s, thus Cats was born in 1981. He soon divorced his wife Sara Hugill and

she finished touring with The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber in the summer. They planed to work
things out. Webber stepped out of the composing shoes and

22. Contingency Planning For Major Disruptions
Contingency Planning Contingency planning is the anticipation of what may happen, combined with
the allocation of resources, and is assumed to maximize the chances of a successful response in time
of crisis; however does not guarantee successful response (Eriksson McConnell, 2011). Glendon
(2013) presents contingency planning as a layer of a three line defense termed the three Cs (3Cs) of
business continuity: contingency planning, continuity capability, crisis response. Contingency
planning is a provision for an event that is possible but cannot be predicted with certainty. He also
considers the application of the 3Cs in the entertainment industry and banking, highlighting the need
for the business continuity professional support within the organization.
Nejad, Noroomand and Kuzgunkaya (2014) discuss a contingency rerouting known as a cost effective
risk management strategy for major disruptions. The authors propose a mixed integer programming
based capacity planning tool to generate the contingency plan of the supply chain during disruptions,
considering response time and congestion, especially critical when dealing with disruptions. This is in
reference to the last decade disasters that affected the several supply chains for instance the Japan
tsunami in 2011, September 11, 2001, to name a few. Contingency rerouting is applied to improve
supply chain responsiveness to major disruptions (Nejad et al., 2014).
Contingency planning is not a recipe for guaranteeing

24. Synthesis Essay On Us Postal Service
During today s growing culture and different developments around technology, society has shied away
from old school traditions. One of those traditions being, sending mail through the United States
Postal Service which was once known as an efficient and reliable source of communication. Having
the option of sending mail of all volume through different sources, electronically and by other
companies, has put the USPS at risk of not succeeding in the future with the possibility going out of
business. If the USPS wishes to continue their mailing services they must adapt to society in order
meet the needs of a changing world. The idea of a technological world is on the rise simply because of
the easy accessibility and the quickness of the internet. In order to better the service of the USPS, it
must be high noted that the world is beginning to revolve around the internet and technology as a
whole. Mail coming through the USPS isn t necessarily the fastest source of communication, which is
why it would be beneficial for such a service to get into the e business (Source A). Allowing a ... Show

Cullen mentions his personal preference saying, e mail is fast and simple, but to me an old fashioned,

use the service seven days a week delivery is simply better than that of six. As the world grows the
volume of mail in regards to the USPS has decreased during the periods of 2000 to 2009 by thirty one

more delivery spots to hit for an employee of the USPS. In order for such a service to regain business,
a change in incentive is needed. The extra day of delivery gives an opportunity to employ more and/or

25. How the Bureacrats Stole Patriotism
The year is 1776. July 3, 1776. One day before a new country was born, the United States of America.
The former colony of Great Britain has just finished it s Declaration of Independence, and signing of
the document by revolution leaders is planned for the next day. John Adams, a future American
president and one of the writers of the Declaration itself, sends a letter to his wife, Jane, on this day. In
this letter, he proclaimed that the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration should be solemnized
with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one
End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. The next year, on the first
anniversary of the signing, Congress itself ordained this tradition, enjoying a grand exhibition of
fireworks... (Sneed). Fireworks have been a symbol of America s freedom ever since that Fourth of
July in 1777. Something about the luminous streaks of light radiating from the sky mesmerizes
Americans when they see it. There is no greater joy than to watch the red, white and blue stripes
proclaiming to all, America is free, and proud to be that way! Now, however, that blood tingling, heart
thrashing scenario is gone, stamped with a big red X by some bureaucrat. The eye popping
pyrotechnics are no more, all one has left to do on the Fourth of July is hold a stick burning at 2000°F.

26. A Live Action Documentary Of The History And Its Impact On...
The film contains two narratives, a live action documentary of the history of textile mills in the United
States and a cartoon drama about people dealing with the struggles typical in the early years of this
industry. Although they are interwoven with each other in the film, these narratives will be
summarized separately in this essay for the sake of clarity, first the documentary section, and second,
the cartoon, but reflected upon as a unit to better focus on the impact of the film as a whole. The
documentary section details the evolution of technology in the era and its impact on society, beginning
with a description of what things were like in the United States prior to the appearance of mills, noting
that everything had to be done manually. In New England, the creation of clothing typically involved
shearing sheep for their wool, followed by cleaning and carding the wool, making it into slivers,
spinning the slivers into thread, and weaving the thread into cloth, and sewing the pieces of cloth
together into clothing. Tools such as the loom and spinning wheel aided in the process, but they had to
be operated manually. Water wheels had previously been used to power the grinding of grain.
Eventually, in Europe, they also came to be used to power machines that handled carding, then
machines called water frames that spun multiple slivers at once, thus drastically increasing the
production of yarn. Spinning mills were established, generating numerous jobs. Although, in the

Memory is a tool we use to encode, store, and retrieve. Memory is also utilized for daily functioning.
Memory is the mental faculty of retaining and recalling past experiences (Matlin, 2009). We all tend to
reassure our memories are accurate and precise and that we would be able to recall any event if
anything should occur. People might believe memory is like a camcorder that can be replayed,
however memory can be selective and reconstructive. As mentioned above memory is stored so it can

Shall Not Be Infringed
When Governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is
tyranny. (Beck 35). This quote is from one of the greatest men in the history of the United States of
America, Thomas Jefferson, the father of the Declaration of Independence, and the third President of
the United States. The validity of his statement is not only historical, but as pertinent today as it was
when spoken anew. It is learned in schools across the nation, although the importance of the words
depends on the teacher, school, and region of the country. During the revolutionary period, King
George learned this same concept the hard way, ...an armed populace is a populace that will not be

Investigating all ten of the amendments to the Bill of Rights, only the second specifically ensures that
this be expected. The only true power that the people of a nation can have over their government is the
ability to remove it if it becomes more powerful than the people. This is a belief that is continuously
defended or confronted around the world and throughout history. Unfortunately, when the people have
an army standing between them and the government, the means to fight become very important, albeit
difficult. The federal government of the United States, when they attempt to create laws on gun
control, does not have the law on their side. Thanks to the founding fathers of the United States, this
right is ensured through time. They understood that any form of government can become corrupt and
eventually the people will need a legal way to ensure that they can take back their personal liberties if
it becomes necessary.
In the period of time before the United States became the young country it is today, in order to secure
and protect established borders, the colonists were in need of the assistance of the standing army of
King George, the British Red Coats. As soon as the colonists decided to revolt excessive taxation and
other mandates being imposed on towns and states,

Rhetorical Analysis: Banksy
Religious imagery is something that can be found in artwork all through the centuries. An anonymous
world renowned graffiti artist who goes by Banksy places traditional paintings in public places altered
to send an iconoclastic message about society and government. In this image he depicts a traditional
figure of Jesus dying on the cross, but in his hands can be found shopping bags full of presents and
candy. Jesus, an iconic figure in religious history, has been turned into a puppet to fit the mold of our
consumer driven society. The rhetor presents an iconoclastic view that the integral commemoration of
Jesus death and the religious aspects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its entire scope wanes away until soon enough, any salvation God intended Jesus death to bestow
upon the people will be lost while consumerism and monetary concernment will take control. The
ways Banksy uses this skewed image of Jesus on the cross suggests that he believes society needs to
break away from strongly valuing consumerism the way it does currently. The rhetor utilizes this
image to depict what he believes society has become, and how drastically different it is from what
God envisioned. In this particular image, Banksy has included Jesus to further depict his anti
consumerism views, believing that Jesus never intended Christians to value tangible objects. The
rhetor gains support because he is not attacking society as a whole or blaming anyone in particular. By
including Jesus in a sense he is defending religion whom so many regard so highly. By defining his
position as defensive of God rather than attacking what society has become people are forced to re
evaluate what they value most. The rhetor s suggested stance on the issue and the way he presents the
controversial religious topic rallies support and acknowledgment of society s faults rather than denial
and outrage. The nature of Banksy s work is iconoclastic in the way he blatantly designs images to
rebel governmental authority or depict the failings of

32. A Position Of Influence On The American Prison System
Project Summary: The United States incarcerates approximately 2.3 million prisoners as of 2016,
much greater than any other country. Though this large prison population exists, the crime rate is
similar to other, similarly developed, countries. This problem can be, if not solved, significantly
alleviated by implementing, as much as possible, the types of policy present in the German prison
system, and others like it. This project would recommend solutions to those in a position of influence
in the American prison system, a way to efficiently implement German, and other similar countries,
prison policy and principles in a manner that is applicable to already existing American prisons. I
estimate that I would need approximately three weeks to research further into this problem and its
solutions, and to write the recommendation report proposed here.
INTRODUCTION
The United States is spending close to $80 billion a year on prisons and rehabilitation programs, a lot
of which is going to waste as shown by the 50% recidivism rate. This proposal will demonstrate the
need for a restructuring of the prison system, the sources available for inspiration to help solve this
problem, and the need for the recommendation report proposed here.
The United States has about 5% of the world s population yet it accounts for about 25% of the world s
prisoners (Deady 2014). From the tough on crime mentality of the last few decades, our prison system
has bloated and become focused on punishment

different time around the end of the month (slightly before or slightly after the 25 day mark). If the
number of hours of community service the individual has increased at least 50 100 hours, then the
individual s probationary curfew can be extended 30 minutes for that month. This is an example of a

as possible, and the consequence is that the
