Jorge Luis Borges Irony
The writing styles of Edgar Allen Poe and Jorge Luis Borges are very in sync when it comes to literary
devices such as irony, imagery, setting and so on. In many of their stories, the authors demonstrate
their extraordinary technique through the short story The Purloined Letter written by Poe and The
Garden of Forking Paths written by Borges. Piquing the readers mind and causing a sensation of awe
at the end their story, they entice the reader to experience a whole new world of literature, forcing the
reader to scrutinize the text in a manner, in which a pedestrian reader would find complex. These
authors are one when it comes to painting an imagine , however differences do occur within the actual
use of literary devices that both authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He s left clues to the resolution of the mystery throughout the story, so by the time the truth was giving
at the end, all he has to do is give us one key sentence to have everything come together. Borges keeps
the suspense until the very end, in which pace of the story is slow, leaving the readers to at the edge of
their seats. Everything that the reader had questioned was answered, whereas Poe s end still left the
reader with unanswered questions. What does the letter say? Who sent it? What s the sender s
relationship to the lady? The readers do not know as much as they did in the beginning. In addition,
are Duplin and Minister D related in some way? Their names have the same first initial, they know
each other very well, they think alike, and they have a long relationship with each other. Un dessein si

Use Of Setting In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart
Analysis of Setting in Tell Tale Heart Edgar Allen Poe uses the literary device setting , to create a dark
tone in his story, The Tell Tale Heart . The story uses about 5 settings: 3 of them are used often, like
Mood and Atmosphere, the Time of Day, and Elapsed Time, while the other two are not common, like
Locale and Population. They help the story a lot by making it spooky. Mood and Atmosphere in this
story uses lighting the most. Evidence of this is when the Madman has his lamp covered in black, so
that he can see what he is doing, but the Old Man cannot. The Old Man s room in the story is pitch
black at night, making it scary when The Madman enters. Also, the Madman hides near Deathwatches,
a beetle that represents death. Time

Research Paper On Venus Transit
The transit of Venus, seen from Earth as a small, dark disk crossing over the sun, is one of the rarest
astronomical events to ever witness. If you missed it back in 2012 then chances are you ll never see it
again in your lifetime. In order for the transit to happen, Venus orbit has to align just right so that the
planet is positioned exactly between the Earth and the sun. The transit has helped astronomers learn
more about Venus atmosphere, the width of the sun, the size of the solar system, and it has helped to
figure out exactly how long an astronomical unit (AU) is. Different filters on telescopes were used to
capture the different lights emitted from the sun during the Venus transit. A white light telescope

The Logical and Physical Topographical Layout of the Planned Network First, we need to understand
the difference between logical and physical topographical layouts. Logical layouts are how the data
move across the network and physical layouts are how the network relates to its wires and hardware
(Kevin Wallace, 2012). Note that how the data moves through the network is not going to be the same
as how the data is physically structured (Michael Harris, 2008). The most coming physical topologies
are Bus, Star, and Star Wire Ring (Kevin Wallace, 2012). The most coming logical topologies are Bus,
Ring, and Star (Kevin Wallace, 2012). LefTechs logical and physical layout will be address through a
new and innovative approached called, Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI). This most commonly
uses the same type of set up as a Token Ring. LefTechs mission is to become one of the largest, fastest
and leading technology companies over the next 5 years. We believe that this type of set up will be the
most cost effective. FDDI uses a high speed fiber network to connect various areas across domains.
FDDI is its own connector so no hubs are necessary in the network set up. With a speed of 100 Mbps

Songlyrics In The Figurative Language In Literature
Figurative language in the world of literature is language that uses words or expressions with a deep
meaning that is different from the normal meaning of words and expressions. In the world of literature
many writers and poets use figurative language to grab their audience attention. Figurative language is
very common in poetry, lyrics, nonfiction writing and prose pieces. In this particular essay I would be
discussing and analyzing different songlyrics that contain figures of speech and how effective these
different figures of speech make the songs popular. In the figurative language we have different
figures of speech. A figure of speech is a word or phrase that has different meaning than the actual
meaning is a way writers used to exaggerate feelings and emotions. There are several figures of
speech such as a hyperbole, personification, metaphor, simile and onomatopoeia. Each of these figures
of speech all have different functions they play in the world of writing. Figures of speech are not used
to exaggerate language, but to also cause a moment of excitement and intensity when reading. The
majority of these figures of speech provide the writing with a more concise and clarifications of what
the author, singer, writer or poet is trying to share with their particular audience. For instance, let s
take a look at several songs that contain figures of speech. For example in the song Mean by Taylor
Swift is singing about how someone s words could be painful and

The Vampire Is A Dark And Ominous Creature Of The Woods Of...
When thinking of the word vampire most people would think that the vampire is a dark and ominous
creature of the woods of Hungary or Transylvania (Wilson 577). They would possibly say that the
vampires in the stories that they heard of or imagined may live in caves or castles. The vampires may
turn into bats and that they drain humans of their blood. Vampires have to invited into a home by an
owner and they cannot go anywhere near garlic. If you try to take a picture of them they will not show
up on the film. They might believe that vampires are completely uncivilized and animalistic. In many
stories and films this was the story that was told of vampires and now it is known as stereotypical
vampires . Today, to keep the vampire genre fresh and new, authors and screenwriters turned the genre
around and created new histories and descriptions of vampires. Some vampires are now known as
attractive to lure in their victims, the term vegetarian vampire was introduced in Stephenie Meyer s
Twilight for vampires that do not drink human blood. So many other things have changed in the new
vampire genre .
The incredibly vivid and colorful world of Vampire Academy novels differs in some ways from the
very basic stories and descriptions of vampires that everyone knows. Vampire Academy emerged in
the midst of the young adult vampire phenomenon that began several years ago. However, it distanced
itself from the others, like Twilight, with very different themes and elements. While

Observation Journal Week: 1 Date: 17th November 2017 School A is a vertical school that holds a
DEIS Band 1 status, incorporating 4 classes for ASD pupils. The urban school employs 35 teachers
and 17 SNAs. This journal entry willl focus on observations of 20 students at a fourth class level, that
took place across a period of one week. Despite admitting to the difficulty of defining the term active
learning concisely, in his article, Prince (2004, pp.223), broadly defines active learning as any
instuctional method that engages students in the learning process . Although Prince s article focuses on
research of active learning within the engineering world, his points and reflections on the efficacy of
active learning methadologies on teaching such as collaborative, cooperative and problem based
learning seemingly stand true for primary schools, and many of the benefits and challenges involved
were observed throughout the week.. In keeping with the constructivist layout of the classroom, the
teacher s teaching style meant the children were always involved in the lessons, fully aware of what,
how and why they were learning. This allowed them to become far more active and agentic in their
learning. They managed the classroom together, taking time regularly to tidy up and ensure their desks
and chairs were where they should be. Many class discussions took place over the course of the week,
a key to constructivist teaching and one the observer found most interesting and useful. Talk and
discussion in a classroom is, from what was observed, a true cornerstone of active learning within the
classroom. The 1999 Curriculum s Teacher Guidelines for SPHE states that as children participate
meaningfully in their own learning they engage in a process in which they can begin from what they
already know, explore possibilities, question, draw conclusions and reflect on outcomes (Government
of Ireland, 1999, pp. 54). Allowing the children to engage in talk and discussion exercises helps them
to navigate their way through what Piaget named schemata, or building blocks of knowledge, through
the processes of assimilation, accommodation and equilibration. These processes require an active
learner, not a passive one

Mistakes Ruining A Discovery
Can you mess something up and make a great discovery? Mistakes can ruin a discovery and mess it up
for everyone. Mistakes are not a key to making a discovery because it can cost when a mistake is
made and a mistake does not define a discovery.
It has been argued that, Mistakes are key to making discoveries because you can end up finding more
than you expect. You can discover something on accident that can lead to greatness. According to the
Utah State of Education Standing near the Magnetron one day while it was on, Spencer noticed the bar
of chocolate in his pocket had melted. He had a moment of realization. He asked for popcorn kernels,
and put them near the heat. Minutes later, the man we can thank for microwave popcorn had a
discovery on his hands. This supports my claim because spencer had left a candy bar in his pocket that
melted on accident but that lead to a lifetime discovery. People all around the world microwave
popcorn. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It took almost 20 years after the melted chocolate moment to bring a commercial microwave to the
public. The equally important process after discovery is also ignored. Scientist need to test their ideas
with care and make as few mistakes as possible (Sanchez). This supports my claim because its saying
how you can t just make a discovery with one mistake it took a while to process and be able to
confirm the discovery.According to Thomas Edison inventing was 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent
perspiration. The typical role of a mistake in science is not a brilliant invention, but to teach a scientist
to do better next time. This also supports my claim because mistakes do not lead to a discovery there
is a lot more to decide if it is a worthy

Use Of Nanomaterials On Civil Engineering- A Review
USE OF NANOMATERIALS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING A REVIEW
Abstract
Recently, the use of nanomaterials is increasing day by day in the various fields such as biomedicine,
automobile, electronics, robotics, construction industry etc. This is mainly because of unique
mechanical, chemical, electronic and optical properties of nanomaterials. Particularly, construction
industry may possibly be one of the chief beneficiaries of these materials, because the properties of
concrete, steel, glass and other building materials will improve with the applications of nanomaterials.
Therefore, the potential use of nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes, Cu nanoparticles, Ag
nanoparticles, TiO2, SiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2, and Fe2O3 nano oxides for enhancing the mechanical
strengths and durability of concrete have been explored in the current study. It has been observed that
the addition of nanomaterials would improve the corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance,
compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength etc. of cementitious composites. However, the
exact mechanism responsible for improvement in the characteristics of nano based cementitious
materials is not clear so far. Thus, more researches and investigations are required in order to use the
nanomaterials in civil engineering and construction sector effectively.
Key words: nanomaterials, construction industry, concrete, mechanical strengths, durability

Pursuing A Law Degree During My Sophomore Year Of College
I first acquired an interest in pursuing a law degree during my sophomore year of college. In order to
prepare myself, I chose to major in criminal justice, with the intention of becoming a defense attorney.
During my senior year, I decided that I did not want to go to law school directly after college. Shortly
after graduation, I moved to New York City and explored other career options. However, I remained
open to a career in law. Moving to New York City from Miami broadened my view of the world, and
was challenging. Some of those challenges, that I overcame, enabled me to realize my potential as an
advocate and a lawyer.
When I first moved to New York City, I transferred locations with my current employer and I also
pursued modeling. I successfully acquired non exclusive contracts with multiple agencies and booked
jobs directly with companies. Some of the most memorable moments of my lifetime occurred when I
modeled. I had dynamic travel experiences, met some of my favorite celebrities, and was exposed to
the entertainment industry. On the other hand, sometimes it was necessary to advocate on my own
behalf; this reignited my desire to attend law school. For instance, there was an incident with an agent
who booked me for a promotional modeling job that was cancelled, and I was not informed until I
arrived at the venue. Consequently, I notified the agent, and requested full payment from the client.
Fortunately, I received full payment, because I took that initiative.

The Health of College Students
Rob Geis, a current college student, explains, A student is not at fault for unwanted weight gain. It is
the college meal plans that cause the gain in weight. Many colleges require incoming freshmen to be
on a meal plan (Geis). Parents like the meal plans because they know their child is getting meals every
day, but the plan does have its downsides. Geis believes that many students do not eat three meals
every day. If we don t eat every meal we are given, we are wasting our money which was used to buy
the meal plan. So, it is either gain weight or waste money (Geis). This may cause the family of the
student to get upset. The parents may reduce the student s meal plan for the next year, which would
make the student eat less. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A family sending a student to college may expect good grades from the student. If a student s grade is
going down, a family might check up on the student. When the family checks on the student, the
family may find something wrong with the child. The family will try and help, but the student may
refuse, thinking that he or she is fine. This could cause embarrassment in the student and make his or
her situation worse. There are many ways to stay healthy on campus. To begin with, the American
College Health and Association states that The top five threats to academic performance are stress; a
cold, flu or sore throat; sleep difficulties; concerns for friends or family; and depression (qtd. in
Dineley). When a student s grade drops from any of the five threats, his or her future can be affected.
A student s career can depend on his or her grades and health. Dineley tells the first way to stay
healthy is to get plenty of rest. Many students get too little of sleep, which causes illness ( College ) .
A student with an illness could miss class. Besides missing class, a student will have less time to study
and learn. The second way to stay healthy according to Dineley is to exercise more often. However,
many students do not have enough time to exercise; especially dealing with the stress of college (
College ). A student s top priority might be his or her grades. If a student slacks on exercising, his or
her physical health may deplete rapidly. Ultimately, a

The Bill of Rights was created to put specific limits on governmental power and too give more of that
power to the individual himself. The government has compromised these liberties by abducting the

Assignment 2: The Statutes Pace v. Alabama Loving v. Virginia

PAD 525: Constitution Administrative Law

January 29, 2012
Was there ever a period in history where interracial marriages and sex among people of different races
was considered illegal? As absurd as this idea sounds, the answer is yes. Astonishingly, less than 40
years ago marrying someone of a different race was considered illegal. Black people could not be with
white people it just couldn t happen. These statutes date back to colonial times, around the 1600s,
which at this time helped to maintain the racial caste system and expand slavery. Two particular

In November 1881, the plaintiff in error, Tony Pace, a negro man, and Mary J. Cox, a white woman,
were indicted under section 4189, in a circuit court of Alabama, for living together in a state of
adultery or fornication, and were tried, convicted, and sentenced, each to two years of imprisonment in
the state penitentiary (http://laws.findlaw.com/us/106/583.html). On appeal to the Supreme Court of
the state the judgment was affirmed, Pace brought the case here on writ of error, insisting that the act
under which he was indicted and convicted is in conflict with the concluding clause of the first section
of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution, which declares that no state shall deny to any
person the equal protection of the laws [106 U.S. 583, 584]. Loving v. Virginia originates from the
Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia in 1967, very many years after Pace v. Alabama. Once again,
Anti Miscegenation Statutes come back into the big picture. This case is landmark in the sense that it
presents a constitutional question never presented in the courts in history: whether a statutory scheme
adopted by the State of Virginia to prevent marriages between persons solely on the basis of racial
classifications violates the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment.

The Dual Nature Of The French And English Faultline In Canada
When the French settled into Canada 400 years ago independently of the British, the first stages of
French/Francophone identity was formed. Over time this unique identity began to emerge and become
something different from the rest of Canada. Language, history, and the geography of their land
continues to evolve and separate the Francophones from Canada as their land and way of life is special
to our nation. The dual nature of the French/English faultline in Canada manifested early on in history
when New France was threatened by British occupation, ultimately leading to Confederation; we can
continue to see this in modern times through referendums which deal with French culture and
separation. Quebec is also unique geographically, containing mild to arctic climate zones and 4
geophysical regions; this is very diverse for a single province in Canada. These regions in Quebec
allows for a diverse economic industry, including: hydroelectric production, agriculture, forest and
mining industries. The economic production through Quebec s varying geography and their individual
French culture and history is what makes Quebec a unique region in Canada.
Settlers came from France when Samuel Du Champlain travelled the St. Lawrence Valley to set up the
first permanent French settlement in 1608. The settlement of Quebec was made to establish fur trading
posts, explore more land using the St. Lawrence River, maintain relationships with the Indigenous
people, and travel further and faster

A Lack Of Dignity By Ernest J. Gaines
A lack of dignity was shown throughout A Lesson Before Dying in the characters of Grant, Jefferson,
Miss Emma, Tante Lou, and Vivian. All of these characters in the novel struggled with their lack of
human morals which reflected on their impertinent actions towards themselves and among others. The
story takes place in the1940 s small Cajun town of Bayonne, Louisiana. In this time period there was
an abundance of racial segregation between african american people and a strong bias towards white
people. This shouldn t be an excuse or reason of why there was very little dignity throughout the
novel. Furthermore, Ernest J. Gaines gives us plenty of examples of how these characters showed this
lack of dignity among themselves and others. Grant Wiggins, a school teacher, is the most educated
man in the community. He s been to the university and came back home to teach at the same school
that he went to growing up as a child. This is an achievement of itself , and most of the people in his
community show him lots of respect for taking on this ruthless job. Unfortunately, his lack of dignity
is shown by him seeing his work at the school as being useless or unworthy. His perspective towards
his own community is that nothing ever changes and that all of these years of slavery had brought his
people s advancement to a sudden stop. Because of this feeling Grant shows several times in the novel
that he wants to leave town and start a new life somewhere else. He says in the novel,

Cover Letter Challenges of American Indians in the United States Health System The difficulty
encountered was on the attempt to harmonize the various figures and facts like years to a coherent
essay without moving back and forth with the figures hence mixing up the reader. It was interesting to
learn new facts about the American Indians and the services that I would otherwise assume are
common with people. The driving force behind the choice of this topic is that I have heard on several
occasions that this minority group among others struggled with the health care hence wanted to
discover the reasons behind it. The U.S. Health care system has undergone many changes and
adjustments meant to provide quality health care to all Americans with the latest adjustments put in
place with the coming of President Obama. The Obama health care plan is aimed at ensuring that all
Americans, regardless of the race and economic status are privy to adequate health care that is
affordable and within their reach. This would come as an absolute relief to the American Indians as
well as the Alaska Native who have been suffering alienation from the health care from historical
years. Background It is because of this historical injustice meted against the American Indians over
the historic development of this nation that there have been various legislations targeted toward
ensuring the American Indians too get the adequate medical care. One most significant and helpful

People are going hungry because of poverty, not because of a shortage of food (Silverbush, 2012).
The problems arising from factory farms are only getting bigger and more disastrous to the
environment. These farms raise hundreds or thousands of animals in close confinement; otherwise
know as concentrated animal feeding operations or CAFOs. Large CAFOs are controlled under federal
and state pollution regulations because they produce massive quantities of animal waste that can pose
environmental and heath hazards if mishandled (Weeks, 3). So why would farmers be farming this
way it is so dangerous? The answer is simple; these farms can produce large quantities of food
cheaply. If a farm can produce more hogs or calves, its profit is larger. In order for farmers to stay on
their land, they are forced into poorly paid off farm employment (Food). Livestock farmers are told
that they must adopt the new industrial technologies that make CAFO s feasible, if they expect to have
a future in farming (Kallen, 64). The byproducts of such farms are producing harmful odors. The
runoff from these farms pollutes streams and groundwater with antibiotics, insecticides, pathogens and
emits poisonous gases that are hazardous and create offensive odors (Weeks, 2). The question now
becomes, is factory farming the only way out? Is an industrial approach to agriculture needed to feed
the poor and hungry of the world? The answer

Nigeria s Economic And Economic Development Essay
Nigeria has a population of around 180 million, making it the most populous country in Africa.
Nigeria is located in a region with tropical climate and that can grow variety of crops. With their
numerous resources and growing technology they have been able to have positive economic
advancement. Nigeria has had improvements in five of the ten economic freedoms. This includes
Freedom of corruption, labor freedom, and management of government spending ( Nigeria. Economy:
Population, GDP, Inflation, Business, Trade, FDI, Corruption.). Nevertheless these large
improvements in their economy has not brought human development, where most Nigerians live
under the poverty line. This paper will focus on why Nigeria has not been able to use their economic
prosperity in the sector of human development, this includes standard of living, health, safety, and
basic necessity one needs to live a stable life. We will compare it to the state of Ghana whose
economy has also flourished but has been success in human development.
Many argue that poverty is inevitable in many states of Africa because of their colonial history but
nevertheless we have states like Ghana who has been able to flourish despite its surrounding problems
and colonial history. In order to figure out why Nigeria has failed to have human development, we will
focus on the type of economy is has, diversity and religion tension, population and government
institutions, and finally human right violations that have occurred

Essay on Fragile X Syndrome
Background (576 words)
The most common cause of inherited mental impairment is Fragile X Syndrome. Fragile X Syndrome
is a mental retardation that affects social, learning and intellectual disabilities. It is a result of a change
and mutation in a single gene, which can be pasted on to future generations. Symptoms arise when the
mutated gene, FMR1, cannot produce enough of the protein, FMRP, that the body s cells need to
function. The symptoms can vary from each affected individual depending on how severe the gene
mutation is. Fragile X causes symptoms such as intelligence and learning difficulties. Those who are
effect normally have an IQ of 75 or less however this is more variable depending on gender, physical
appearance, social and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around 1 in 400 to 6000 females in the world are also born with the full mutation and will show
features of the disease. On the other hand, roughly 1 in 800 men and 1 in 260 women in the world are
carries of the Fragile X pre mutation. Furthermore, a recent 2004 analysis indicates that the quantity
could be as high as 1 in 130 women, which shows that there may be a rapid increase of carriers of the
disease (The National Fragile X Foundation, 2011).
Fragile X Syndrome affects the X chromosome, genes and DNA. It affects the X chromosome by a
locus as seen in figure 2 below. A clear comparison can be made between a normal X chromosome
and a Fragile X affected X chromosome. The genes and DNA are affected by a section of nucleotides
in which the triplet CGG nucleotide sequence is repeated. If the triplet is repeated over 200 times in a
person, then they are most likely to suffer from fragile X Syndrome as seen in table 1.

The Importance Of Personal Privacy
Warrantless searches of a student s person raise significant legal questions. Unlike locker searches, it
cannot be asserted that there is a lower expectation of privacy. Students have a legitimate expectation
of privacy in the contents of their pockets and their person. The Fifth Circuit noted: The Fourth
Amendment applies with its fullest vigor against any intrusion on the human body. In personal
searches, not only is it necessary to have reasonable cause to search, but also the search itself must be
reasonable. Reasonableness is assessed in terms of the specific facts and circumstances of a case.
Metal Detectors. Metal detectors are used in airports and many public buildings, but their use does
constitute a search for Fourth Amendment purposes. General scanning of students with metal detectors
is only minimally intrusive on students Fourth Amendment rights when weighed against school
officials interest in providing a safe school environment.
Metal detectors became more commonplace in school environments in the 1990s causing their
constitutionality to be challenged. However, courts soon clarified that individualized suspicion was
not needed for schools to use of metal detectors. For example, the Pennsylvania high court upheld a
general, uniform search of all students for weapons as they entered the high school building; each
student s personal belongings were searched, and then a security officer scanned each student with a
metal detector. The court concluded that the

players may find a little bit rigid. The smallest bet is $0.50 while the maximum bet goes up to $50
with each line being worth $10. The payouts are based on the amount you ve wagered and work out as
multipliers. The most you can earn is 800x your bet or $8,000. Overall, the betting setup within Fruit
Machine is clear, it is built for players who have big money to spend.
Big money mayhem
To unlock the game s serious money you need to match up the symbol that has three game logos on it.
This symbol is the wild symbol of the game and it can substitute for any other symbol in the game.
Landing a wild could lead to a potentially high winning combination and net you some extra cash.
Hands off the wheel
The game also comes with an autoplay function, where you set the bet and the game spins the reels up
to 100x for you without manual input. Of course it s easy to just hold down the space button on your

Charles Dickens The Prison System
Charles Dickens visited the United States in 1842, were he witnessed solitary confinement in Eastern

that he persuaded that those who devised this system of Prison Discipline, and those who benevolent
gentlemen who carry execution, do no know what it is that they are doing . The lets the audience know
what Dickens believes to be the negative part of the Prison Discipline. Dickens states that not many
men are capable of enduring long period of agony and torture. The prison system to Dickens led him
to be convinced that There is a depth of terrible endurance in it which none but the sufferers
themselves can fathom, and which no man has the right to inflict upon his fellow creatures . This lets
us conclude that Dickens s assessment toward the Prisons has a more negative aspect. To support his
claims of why the prisons have a negative aspect is seen through the numerous prisoners, he visited
during his tour of the American prisons. He included an individual who was about to be released after
two years in solitary confinement. Dickens reaction toward the man was that he felt his Heart bled for
him; and when the tears rolled down his checks...to ask, with his trembling hands nervously
clutching...whether there was hope of his dismal sentence being commuted, the spectacle was really
too painful to witness . Dickens states that I hold this slow and daily tampering with the mysteries

Materials Of A Rocket Or Space Shuttle
Abstract: Many people think that going to the outer space is not that complex when talking about the
materials of a rocket or space shuttle. Most people believe that metal is all that is needed and that in
fact that is all it has. The truth is that it required a lot of research and procedures to come up with the
right materials to people to withstand rigorous conditions. In other words, materials had to be
engineered to work with extreme heat, cold and pressure changes. Due to some other issues such as
collision from debris and unforeseen events the space shuttle had to be cancelled. The risks were too
high even with all the engineering of materials.
During the 1955 the race to see who would send the first astronaut to space began between the United
States and the Soviet Union. At that time, they were using rockets without the thought of being reused.
All they really want was to win the race of who would send the first astronaut to space. As time went
by, they decided that the rockets should be able to be reused. The problem with the first designs is that
they were disposable and expensive. So in 1972 the space shuttle program officially began. The
shuttle were a way to lower the costs by having an aircraft connected with a rocket that would boost it
out of space and then be able to land on earth. Therefore, the aircraft would be reused and just have a
new rocket and external tank. The problem was to come up with a material that could be reused
without suffering from

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Museum
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
Before the mid twentieth century, museums in Europe and the United States were generally planned in
variations of the neoclassical style. But, the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao moved the heading of
gallery outlines, which gave an extensive show venue to twentieth century and modern art, designed
by the famous architect Frank Gehry. Architecture is important nowadays to the public, because it
offers a physical surrounding environment in where we live in. Moreover, architecture is not only
affected by the culture, but also by the economy of the country.
Frank Gehry is one of the handful modern architects that are worldwide known by his inventive and
pioneering work. The American Canadian architect was born Frank Owen Goldberg in Toronto,
Canada on February 28, 1929, based in Los Angeles since 1962. He studied architecture at the
University of Southern California and city planning in Harvard University. Gehry is known for his
postmodern structures and unusual inventions. His most popular buildings include the Guggenheim
Museum in Bilbao, Spain and the Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a museum that represents modern and contemporary art. Its story
first begins when Thomas Krens the director of Solomon R. Guggenheim foundation in New York

Racial And White-Dominated Society In Ralph Ellison s The...
The Invisible Man was an interesting book to read. It showed the event of African American racism in
1930 through the eyes of the narrator. Ralph Ellison shows his journey through the white dominated
society. Ellison intended outcome is to us about the African American society; tell us about the racial,
white dominated society; tell us about his experiences in 1930. Ellison intends to write about the
African America society in 1930. He tells us the African Americans are constantly discriminated. They
are blind to the fact that they are being mistreated and avoid knowing the truth. They try to find their
identity in a White dominated society. The Narrator thinks that he is alive to support and gain
recognition of white people. He spends many years trying to blend into society. Another example is
Mr. Bledsoe. He is an African American person who puts blending into white society above his own
people. He declares that he would bring down every African American before he loses his job. Ellison
shows how African Americans try to join white society and those that have been excepted keep it as an
accomplishment and would never give it away. The second intended outcome was to tell us about
racial, white dominated society. He tells us that they discriminated African Americans and believed
that every one of them was not a human. They also believed that every African American was a tool.
The Narrator tells us that he was thrown into a battle royal for the white people to enjoy. Then after
the battle, he was shown money, but it was a fake and a trick to entertain the white people. A second
example is the statue of the founder. The Narrator sees that the statue shows a symbolism that white
people still did not believe that African Americans were not entirely free. Another example is when the
narrator is in the hospital. While he is at the hospital the doctor tests electrical shock therapy on the
narrator and even tries to castrate him. The white people believe that African Americans are not
entirely free and that they can be used for their own entertainment or for their testing. The third
intended outcome is to tell us about his experience through this time period. He shows us that he

The Idea Of Freedom From Fear
Article two of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights lists freedom from fear as a
fundamental human right. Freedom is the power or right to act, speak or think independently without
hindrance or restraint. Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by impending danger or evil. I do not
believe that the idea of freedom from fear has changed in the last seventy years, fear is a basic survival
mechanism and although its form may change, it will always be present in one form or another,
When Franklin Delano Roosevelt presented his inaugural address in 1941 the United States was in the
midst of a great economic depression and although the United States had not yet joined the war, the
world was at war. He made a serious speech trying to comfort and bolster the people in their times of
hardship and despair. Freedom from fear was the fourth freedom that he spoke about, defining it as a
world wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will
be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor. He aimed to create
world peace maintaining that wars were driven by fear and misunderstandings. His speech ou lined the

Failures Of Indira Gandhi
Week Ten: This weeks analysis on Indira Gandhi helped me unpack her successes and failures. Some
of the major failures that my group talked about was the forced sterilization, state of emergency,
religious divide, censorship and corruption. The mass forced sterilization was ultimate failure in my
eyes and as I talked about prior a major human rights violation. Interestingly, Indira Gandhi had no
gender policy during her reign. One would think that a women politician would want to address so
many of the problems that plague women on a daily basis. If I was a women in India during the time
where Indira Gandhi came to power, I would have been devastated that she was not interested in
improving women s rights. Indira also reinforced the religious divide within India, especially for the
Sikhs. She ended up exacerbating tensions in the region, which ultimately lead to her demise.
While she did have a lot of failures, this weeks class helped bring to light some of her successes as
well. Prior to this class I only really thought of her failures and even during class my group had a hard
time coming up with anything. I think her lack of credentials and her short sidedness made her ill
prepared to be a ruler. Throughout this class I began to admire Nehru and his leadership of India;
however, with Indira I felt myself being angry and disappointed with her ruling style.

Porphyria Research Paper
Porphyria is a disease that affects the body s red blood cells mutating them to where the hemes
enzyme is nonexistent (Daempfle, 2016). The hemes job is to accumulate oxygen in the blood cells, so
when it does not store the hemes the porphyrins amass causing issues. These issues or symptoms
manifest as extreme hair development, hunger for blood, photosensitivity, skin abrasions, receding
gum lines, and worst of all it impairs organs (Daempfle, 2016). Due to the body s failure to produce
hemes blood transfusions are required for affected individuals. So, we know what the disease is and
that it is inherited, but how is it inherited?
Although the majority of disease are contained in recessive alleles, porphyria occurs in dominant
alleles as well (Daempfle, 2016). The two forms of this disease are autosomal dominant pattern (AIP),
and autosomal recessive patterns (congenital). The recessive pattern of porphyria may lay dormant
within the carrier, and would require another donor with the recessive patterns before their offspring
could exhibit the symptoms. However, if there are homozygous dominant or heterozygous alleles
possessing porphyria then the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Similarities Between The Sacho Panza Syndrome And The...
The Sancho Panza syndrome (then) and the American dream (then and now)
In the 15th century, the combination of the Sancho Panza Syndrome and the American dream fueled
exploration at that time and created an incredibly enticing allure of the New World. Exploration and
colonization were performed to attain a higher social status, more wealth, and fame. The result of this
exploration led to the discovery of new lands and laid the foundation for new countries, but it came
with a cost. The perils of the new land discovered were often incredibly treacherous and sometimes
times even life threatening, however, the American dream never faded away. The American dream
today holds very similar to the American dream in the 15th and 16th centuries despite the gap of 500
years. These dreams are very alike, because they both are comprised of individuals trying to achieve
success in lands of opportunity, and although some were prosperous, others were not so fortunate. The
American dream today is a household concept, which states that if a person works hard enough, he or
she can make a better life for themselves. This concept inspires countless people every day to
overcome adversity in attempt to better their life. On a personal level, I can relate to this dream
vicariously through my father. My grandfather immigrated to the United States in 1923 from Bisaccia,
Italy. The Procaccino family stood firmly on the belief that following the American dream was key to
success, but despite how hard my great grandfather worked, the Great Depression drained the money
out of the Procaccino household. John (my grandfather) yearned to become a doctor, but due to his
family s financial situation, John enlisted in the US Army during World War II. After completing his
duties, he earned an engineering degree and became a New York City engineer. John bore two sons
named Angelo and John II. Angelo was a naturally gifted child with tremendous brainpower, but John
was more of a rapscallion. With the guidance of Angelo, John realized that the best way to create
something with your life was to follow the American dream and work harder than anyone else. John II
became an incredible student and eventually went on to be a nationally

As if Americans live in a microwave culture, waiting for what seems to be hours before the
microwave buzzes, they are impatient, and constantly resorting to technology. Family dinners are no
longer centered around heart to heart discussions about events that occurred that day, but instead are
centered around a television and an exchange of a few words on a lucky night. To add to the
distraction, family members are on their phones finalizing work from that day, or staying updated with
some social media app rather than devoting attention to the people surrounding them or the fuel being

Comparing Electoral Processes in Uk
Electoral Systems in the UK
There are two main types of electoral system in the UK:
First Past the Post (FPTP) Proportional Representation (PR)
First Past the Post (FPTP);
FPTP is the voting system used for the election of MPs to seats in the UK Parliament. It is a system in
which the winner takes all and usually gives a clear majority both at constituency and national level.
This means that a candidate in a constituency only needs one more vote than the nearest rival to win
the seat. Similarly, political parties only need to win one more seat in the House of Commons to have
a majority.
Advantages of FPTP;
There is very little chance of extremist parties being elected to Parliament under FPTP because they

FPTP also encourages tactical (unfair) voting. This means voting for a party, other than your preferred
party, to prevent another party from being elected. An example of this would be when a Labour
supporter in a marginal Liberal/ Conservative seat votes Liberal Democrat in order to keep the
Conservatives from winning.
Another disadvantage of FPTP can occur in marginal constituencies, where voters tend to change their
party loyalty from election to election, and among floating or swing voters, who have no firm party
loyalty. The outcome of an election can be decided on the voting patterns in these situations, even
although the constituents may number only a tiny proportion of the electorate.
Proportional Representation (PR)
There is a number of systems that use PR such as the Single Transferable Vote (STV) (the Regional
and National Lists) and the Alternative Vote. There is a third system that combines these two, known
as the Additional Member System (AMS) or the hybrid or top up system. The AMS system is
presently used in elections for the Scottish Parliament, where voters can vote for single candidates in
their constituencies but also for candidates from regional lists put forward by each party. If there is a
discrepancy between the percentage of seats the party has won and the percentage of votes cast, the
seats are topped up from the

Internet
It is important to know the history of the internet. The internet is a worldwide network of computer
systems that are connected to each other by cables (Howe, 2012). The internet first started out as a
military experiment. In 1957, the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) was created by the
United States department of Defense (Computer History Museum, 2004). The project was started after
the Russians launched a satellite into space for communication reasons. The satellite was called
SPUTNIK (Computer History Museum, 2004). It was rumored that President Eisenhower got worried
and decided to get the United States to launch its own satellite. They recruited Dr. Joseph C. Licklider
of MIT, was made head of the Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO)(Computer History
Museum, 2004). Their purpose of the project was to focus on improving the military use of computer
information.

An Article On Islamic Mathematics
Abstract: This is an article on Islamic Mathematics. Islamic mathematics is dated back to the 8th and
13th centuries CE. The mathematics in the Middle East is an expansion of what great Greek
philosophers had already found and studied. Much of what the Middle Eastern mathematicians
discovered helped influence European mathematics. In fact, a lot of what high school math teachers
teach our current generations is Algebra, which was discovered by an Islamic Mathematician.
Key Words: Al Khwarizmi, Algebra, Completing the square, zero
1 Introduction
Since ancient times, mathematics has always been a necessity for the sake of civilization. Many

1) [2]. Al Khwarizmi was born in Persia near Baghdad around 780. He worked at the House of
Wisdom under the leadership of Caliph al Ma mun in Baghdad. The House of Wisdom was a library
for translation and research. Most of the library was full of treatises dealing with philosophy,
mathematics, and science. Here Al Khwarizmi was commissioned to translate Greek, Hindu, Syriac
Persian, and Hebrew text into Arabic. He popularized a number of mathematical concepts, including
the use of Hindu Arabic numbers and the number zero, algebra, and the use of geometry to
demonstrate and prove algebraic results.
3 Arithmetic
In the 12th century, Al Khwarizmi introduced Hindu Arabic numerals and their arithmetic to the west.
His work is preserved in Latin, Algoritmi de numero Indorum, which then gained the term algorithm
[1]. This treatise is especially important to mathematics since it was the introduction of the number
zero. The number zero was used in the Middle East for about 250 years before it was ever heard of in
Europe. He also introduced the Hindu concept of decimal positioning notation to the Arab and
European worlds, which we still use today [2].

Kitab al jabr wa l muqabalah is another extremely important treatise written by Al Khwarizmi,
translated in the 12th century, from which the term Algebra derives. Algebra is a compilation of rules,
together with demonstrations, for finding solutions of linear and quadratic equations based on intuitive

Comparison Of Depression In The Big Sur By Jack Kerouac
Depression affects 350 million people and is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Everyone
deals with depression a different way but it is not easy, the best way is to see a professional and talk
about it to try to let it all out, but most people come up with their own way. Depressed modern poets
such as Jack Kerouac and Sylvia Plath tried to shock themselves into reality and heal their depression
and feelings about certain subjects with alcohol and electroconvulsive therapy but could not. They
both decided to chose the outlet of poetry and release their negative feelings by writing about similar
themes. This becomes evident when one draws similarities between themes such as isolation, nature
and love proven by examining The Big Sur by Jack Kerouac and many poetic works from Sylvia
Plath. Being a popular poet can do alot to one, and if ones fans only care about their work and not
their true feelings the artist tends to feel isolated.
When one is depressed he/she tends to isolate themselves. Kerouac and Plath both do this when they
are writing. In many of Plath s poems she writes about her loneliness, and in some she even tells God.
Plath is so depressed that she associate s life with loneliness, which proves that Plath feels she is
isolated God, but life is loneliness (Under the Night Starry Sky, Plath). Plath feels empty, she feels
useless, she is tired and just wants to relax, this proves that Plath is giving up and she is so upset with

comparison between two characters is also common amongst many previous novels, novellas, and
short stories. A foil is defined as, by Literary Devices, qualities that are in contrast with the qualities of
another character, but it can also be used as comparisons. A few comparisons, from William
Shakespeare, are Macbeth and Banquo in the play The Tragedy of Macbeth and Laertes, Claudius, and
Fortinbras in the play Hamlet. In The Tragedy of Macbeth when the three witches are telling ... Show

It is easy to tell that it is a full time job, and one obviously needs to be focused. Consistently Jimmy
Cross lacks the focus needed to do his job. That was his ultimate downfall as he was the weak link that
killed Ted Lavender. Once Ted Lavender was gone, only then did he listen to his higher ups. Martha
was his authority before them. The question remains as to what Martha worshipped before her tragedy,
but maybe that just wasn t needed for the story to go on. Martha became a Lutheran Missionary. It is a
common debate that women must be silent or subservient in the church. They are allowed to teach
other women and children, of course, but not men as 1 Timothy 2:11 12 states A woman should learn
in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man;
she must be silent. Even with examples of God Choosing women to speak for him, like Deborah the
mother in Israel, Martha was probably not in a church that was tolerant toward women leaders.
Regardless of if she leads the entire world, she is still religious. This would mean she has one
commander: God. She has a loyalty to God as Jimmy Cross has a loyalty to The Commander in Chief,
the President. They are both, in their most simplistic forms, invisible rulers that were always there
going unacknowledged until death. How O Brien told of Cross s tears and mourning reflect most
stories of war: mortal. Many war writers who have seen

John Steinbeck s The Last Of The Mohicans
The book Last of the Mohicans is about a group of Native Americans called the Mohicans. The
characters are Hawkeye, his adopted father Chingachgook, and his adopted brother Uncas. They re are
the last of the Mohicans, the last of the bloodline. The story takes place in the 18th century during a
seven year war between Britain and France. Hawkeye and the Mohicans try to save the daughter of a
British colonel when a conflict arises. Magua of the Hurons attempts to kill the Mohicans and kidnap
the two girls. Magua is the trouble maker and wants revenge against Col. Munro by trying to marry
one of the daughters and hurt his pride. There was a lot of racial conflict between white and Indian
race at a time when racism was at its height. The relationship between Chingachgook and Uncas is a
bit complicated. Their love for each other isn t portrayed well in the story. It s a distant love that
parents and children have endured throughout time. He s very protective of his daughter. She doesn t
like how restricting he can be. At times, they re both stubborn toward one another. She gets so mad
she wishes she could explode at him. Although she s deeply angry at her father, she loves him more
then life itself. Being her wise father, and a child never fully understanding the depths of love from a
father; he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He completes her sentences. They instinctively do many of the same things. But then there are times
when she refuses to bend, and him being the old mule; he won t budge. Then there s silence,
emptiness and despair. They both know the importance of family and tradition. No one who loves
someone would never behave in a hurtful way. I know it, my father means the world to me. I m
positive he d defend my life at all times. This is why I like the book, it shows you unconditional love
from another perspective. You can t tell exactly how hard they love one another. It all depends on them
and how the reader identifies with

The Pioneers Of Aviation By Orville And Wilbur Wright...
Orville and Wilbur Wright brothers were the pioneers of aviation since its first flight performed in
1903 in a heavier than the air machine in North Carolina; but it was not until World War II, when in
flight travel achieved a prominent place in other countries, prompted the beginning of a new way of
communication and a new business.
When the reorganization of the airlines in operation occurred, the network of scheduled flights from
fixed itineraries comprehensive and competitive race began in improving the services they offered,
such as trained attendants to deal effectively with passengers during flights. Leaning on the technical
evolution and the race of modernization and progress, service airline has managed to prevail and win
the battle brilliantly, that is why every day many services are efficient such as reservation systems,
baggage handling, documentation, and others. Commercial aviation is an activity that is created from
the need to transport people and goods, hence airlines became an option as business.
The Boeing Company was a small military contractor and was one of the best trading companies in
the world, because it s advanced technology that was used in warplanes, then those advances changes
were incorporated into commercial aviation.
The U.S. airline industry is one of the most varied and active in the world, even though the latest years
this industry have been struggling to make revenues and profits. Thus, among all the regulated
business within United

The Scopes Trial And Its Impact On The American Education...
The Scopes Trial is a standout amongst the most well known trials in American history. The trial was a
lawful case in 1925 in which a substitute high school teacher, John Scopes, was charged with violating
Tennessee s Butler Act, which made it illegal to teach Darwinism in any state financed school. This
trial was a gathering between various polar opposites, for example, Fundamentalism and Modernism.
The clash between fundamentalism and modernism during the Scopes Trial had a significant impact
on the American education system. In America, in the 1920s, two significant cultural movements arose
that eventually clashed. A Christian fundamentalist movement arose in America and the
fundamentalist s goal during this time was to recover and publicly institutionalize old time religious
fundamental values. Fundamentalist believed in a literal interpretation of the Bible, and thus strongly
objected to the teachings of Charles Darwin, since his theory of evolution contradicted the origin of
man as found in the Bible. In the 1920s, the Christian fundamentalist began to gain political power
across America and started passing legislation banning the teaching of Darwinism in state funded
schools. At the same time cultural modernism was also rising in America. Modernist believes in a
secular government and their agenda was education, democratic reforms, and economic progress.
These two conflicting ideologies would inevitably clash, which occurred in the Scopes Trial of

Help Stop Snoring And Sleep Apnea With Our Help
If you or someone in your family snores loudly during naps or nighttime sleep, this is probably getting
old. Snoring this loudly keeps other family members awake. Worse, it can interfere with the sleep of
the person doing the snoring. And with how little time there is to get sleep thanks to our busy lives,
using that time effectively is very important.
But snoringthis isn t about teeth, so what can a dentist do? A lot, actually if they have the right training
and technology. Most dentists in the Rogue Valley area do not help patients with bad snoring or sleep
apnea. But Dr. Vareldzis and his dental team are trained to help health issues involving the whole
mouth. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vareldzis practiced dentistry in the Portland area. Yet his love for learning kept him in school,
studying postdoctoral work in modern, advanced dentistry. This includes taking courses at the OBI
Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry and the Dawson Academy. Because of this, Dr. Vareldzis is able
to offer state of the art techniques such as laser dentistry, CEREC same day crowns, dental implants,
and Invisalign aligners.
Despite all of these accomplishments, Dr. Vareldzis is most known for his kindness and personal
attention. Unlike some dental offices, Dr. V takes the time to get to know you and learn about your
concerns, goals, and plans for continued dental health. His biggest reward? Seeing how happy his
patients are after the work is complete.
After working in Portland for 23 years, he fell in love with the Rogue Valley and decided to move
here. He opened Hillcrest Family Dentistry in East Medford back in 2012. Currently, he is a member
of the American Dental Association, the Oregon Dental Association, the Academy of General
Dentistry, the International College of Oral Implantology, and the American Academy of Implant
Dentistry.
Dr. Vareldzis is proud of his Greek American heritage and credits it with keeping him focused on
family and excellent, personal care. He is married to his wife, Debbie, who is also the office s business

Alexander The Great Antigonid
Alexander the Great s career as a ruler ended soon after it began, leaving behind a great empire that
quickly broke apart after his death. The lands were divided by each of his generals, general Ptolemy
acquired Egypt, which became known as Ptolemaic, general Seleucus acquired from the coast of Asia
Minor to India, forming Seleucid, and general Antigonus became king of Macedonia, establishing the
Antigonid. Governing of these lands did not differ much, citizens grew their own crops and raised
animals for food, while paying rent and taxes to their kings. Folks that resided in the cities ate fancier
foods, drank fancier wine, and did business with others who were quite different from them. Greek
customs and manners were maintained, the Greek

Are Humans Striving To Survive Research Paper
Do humans still strive to survive no matter what the circumstances? Humans have been striving to
survive, pushing themselves to keep going and not give up for many years no matter what the
circumstances. They have faced many obstacles and managed to overcome them. Looking back at
ancient life, humans had to start from the beginning to sustain life. For example, the ancient Egyptians
survived by the technology they developed. In today s society, we start where our previous generation
ended; causing an exponential growth in terms of technology. Technology is the key to surviving in
this world. Humans learned how to survive in the ancient times by developing innovative technology,
however, it came at a cost. Advancing technology forces humans to advance along with it. Agriculture
appeared a long time ago and is still going on to this day, it makes us continue to move forward no
matter what happens. Also, transportation is a reason why we still expand ... Show more content on

Agriculture is one of the major things that helped humans survive with food growing continuously.
Transportation made it easier for us to move and spread ideas all over the world. Communication is
one of the great things that we still have to this day, it helped us connect with each other and strive to
keep going. All these are a form of technology, which basically makes up for our lives and helps us in
everything we put our mind to. With all this information, you can still tell humans are striving to
survive no matter what happens. New inventions will be made and milestones will be created because
of technology. Technology has been very helpful in the making of agriculture, communication, and
transportation and will never stop doing so. This is very important to us because we always hear
people argue about the survival of humanity and why they don t strive to survive, but at the end
humans will always strive to survive thanks to the advancement of

What Is Transnational Organized Crime
Transnational organized crime has become a significant danger facing all countries, whether
developed or developing nations. Despite this incredible danger to modern countries, organized crime
is not a new phenomenon. History is filled with stories of past mafia groups whether Italian, Russian,
or American but the risks during the mid nineteenth century were lower and were concentrated in
specific countries or regions.
Now, organized crime has become a threat to security and stability at the international level. This
crime may lead to the weakening of economic, social, and cultural institutions of countries. Further, it
may cause the loss of confidence in the democratic process and impact those who have political
power. Achieving monetary

  • 2. Jorge Luis Borges Irony The writing styles of Edgar Allen Poe and Jorge Luis Borges are very in sync when it comes to literary devices such as irony, imagery, setting and so on. In many of their stories, the authors demonstrate their extraordinary technique through the short story The Purloined Letter written by Poe and The Garden of Forking Paths written by Borges. Piquing the readers mind and causing a sensation of awe at the end their story, they entice the reader to experience a whole new world of literature, forcing the reader to scrutinize the text in a manner, in which a pedestrian reader would find complex. These authors are one when it comes to painting an imagine , however differences do occur within the actual use of literary devices that both authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He s left clues to the resolution of the mystery throughout the story, so by the time the truth was giving at the end, all he has to do is give us one key sentence to have everything come together. Borges keeps the suspense until the very end, in which pace of the story is slow, leaving the readers to at the edge of their seats. Everything that the reader had questioned was answered, whereas Poe s end still left the reader with unanswered questions. What does the letter say? Who sent it? What s the sender s relationship to the lady? The readers do not know as much as they did in the beginning. In addition, are Duplin and Minister D related in some way? Their names have the same first initial, they know each other very well, they think alike, and they have a long relationship with each other. • 3. Use Of Setting In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart Analysis of Setting in Tell Tale Heart Edgar Allen Poe uses the literary device setting , to create a dark tone in his story, The Tell Tale Heart . The story uses about 5 settings: 3 of them are used often, like Mood and Atmosphere, the Time of Day, and Elapsed Time, while the other two are not common, like Locale and Population. They help the story a lot by making it spooky. Mood and Atmosphere in this story uses lighting the most. Evidence of this is when the Madman has his lamp covered in black, so that he can see what he is doing, but the Old Man cannot. The Old Man s room in the story is pitch black at night, making it scary when The Madman enters. Also, the Madman hides near Deathwatches, a beetle that represents death. Time ... If you missed it back in 2012 then chances are you ll never see it again in your lifetime. In order for the transit to happen, Venus orbit has to align just right so that the planet is positioned exactly between the Earth and the sun. The transit has helped astronomers learn more about Venus atmosphere, the width of the sun, the size of the solar system, and it has helped to figure out exactly how long an astronomical unit (AU) is. Different filters on telescopes were used to capture the different lights emitted from the sun during the Venus transit. A white light telescope filtered only to decrease ... Logical layouts are how the data move across the network and physical layouts are how the network relates to its wires and hardware (Kevin Wallace, 2012). Note that how the data moves through the network is not going to be the same as how the data is physically structured (Michael Harris, 2008). The most coming physical topologies are Bus, Star, and Star Wire Ring (Kevin Wallace, 2012). The most coming logical topologies are Bus, Ring, and Star (Kevin Wallace, 2012). This most commonly uses the same type of set up as a Token Ring. LefTechs mission is to become one of the largest, fastest and leading technology companies over the next 5 years. We believe that this type of set up will be the most cost effective. FDDI uses a high speed fiber network to connect various areas across domains. • 6. Songlyrics In The Figurative Language In Literature Figurative language in the world of literature is language that uses words or expressions with a deep meaning that is different from the normal meaning of words and expressions. In the world of literature many writers and poets use figurative language to grab their audience attention. Figurative language is very common in poetry, lyrics, nonfiction writing and prose pieces. In this particular essay I would be discussing and analyzing different songlyrics that contain figures of speech and how effective these different figures of speech make the songs popular. In the figurative language we have different figures of speech. A figure of speech is a word or phrase that has different meaning than the actual meaning is a way writers used to exaggerate feelings and emotions. There are several figures of speech such as a hyperbole, personification, metaphor, simile and onomatopoeia. Each of these figures of speech all have different functions they play in the world of writing. Figures of speech are not used to exaggerate language, but to also cause a moment of excitement and intensity when reading. The majority of these figures of speech provide the writing with a more concise and clarifications of what the author, singer, writer or poet is trying to share with their particular audience. For instance, let s take a look at several songs that contain figures of speech. For example in the song Mean by Taylor Swift is singing about how someone s words could be painful and ... • 7. The Vampire Is A Dark And Ominous Creature Of The Woods Of... When thinking of the word vampire most people would think that the vampire is a dark and ominous creature of the woods of Hungary or Transylvania (Wilson 577). They would possibly say that the vampires in the stories that they heard of or imagined may live in caves or castles. The vampires may turn into bats and that they drain humans of their blood. Vampires have to invited into a home by an owner and they cannot go anywhere near garlic. If you try to take a picture of them they will not show up on the film. They might believe that vampires are completely uncivilized and animalistic. In many stories and films this was the story that was told of vampires and now it is known as stereotypical vampires . Today, to keep the vampire genre fresh and new, authors and screenwriters turned the genre around and created new histories and descriptions of vampires. Some vampires are now known as attractive to lure in their victims, the term vegetarian vampire was introduced in Stephenie Meyer s Twilight for vampires that do not drink human blood. So many other things have changed in the new vampire genre . The incredibly vivid and colorful world of Vampire Academy novels differs in some ways from the very basic stories and descriptions of vampires that everyone knows. Vampire Academy emerged in the midst of the young adult vampire phenomenon that began several years ago. However, it distanced itself from the others, like Twilight, with very different themes and elements. While ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Reflection On The Benefits And Importance Of Active... Observation Journal Week: 1 Date: 17th November 2017 School A is a vertical school that holds a DEIS Band 1 status, incorporating 4 classes for ASD pupils. The urban school employs 35 teachers and 17 SNAs. This journal entry willl focus on observations of 20 students at a fourth class level, that took place across a period of one week. Despite admitting to the difficulty of defining the term active learning concisely, in his article, Prince (2004, pp.223), broadly defines active learning as any instuctional method that engages students in the learning process . Although Prince s article focuses on research of active learning within the engineering world, his points and reflections on the efficacy of active learning methadologies on teaching such as collaborative, cooperative and problem based learning seemingly stand true for primary schools, and many of the benefits and challenges involved were observed throughout the week.. In keeping with the constructivist layout of the classroom, the teacher s teaching style meant the children were always involved in the lessons, fully aware of what, how and why they were learning. This allowed them to become far more active and agentic in their learning. They managed the classroom together, taking time regularly to tidy up and ensure their desks and chairs were where they should be. Many class discussions took place over the course of the week, a key to constructivist teaching and one the observer found most interesting and useful. Talk and discussion in a classroom is, from what was observed, a true cornerstone of active learning within the classroom. The 1999 Curriculum s Teacher Guidelines for SPHE states that as children participate meaningfully in their own learning they engage in a process in which they can begin from what they already know, explore possibilities, question, draw conclusions and reflect on outcomes (Government of Ireland, 1999, pp. 54). Allowing the children to engage in talk and discussion exercises helps them to navigate their way through what Piaget named schemata, or building blocks of knowledge, through the processes of assimilation, accommodation and equilibration. These processes require an active learner, not a passive one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
Mistakes are not a key to making a discovery because it can cost when a mistake is made and a mistake does not define a discovery. It has been argued that, Mistakes are key to making discoveries because you can end up finding more than you expect. You can discover something on accident that can lead to greatness. According to the Utah State of Education Standing near the Magnetron one day while it was on, Spencer noticed the bar of chocolate in his pocket had melted. He had a moment of realization. He asked for popcorn kernels, and put them near the heat. Minutes later, the man we can thank for microwave popcorn had a discovery on his hands. • 11. Use Of Nanomaterials On Civil Engineering- A Review USE OF NANOMATERIALS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING A REVIEW Abstract Recently, the use of nanomaterials is increasing day by day in the various fields such as biomedicine, automobile, electronics, robotics, construction industry etc. This is mainly because of unique mechanical, chemical, electronic and optical properties of nanomaterials. Particularly, construction industry may possibly be one of the chief beneficiaries of these materials, because the properties of concrete, steel, glass and other building materials will improve with the applications of nanomaterials. Therefore, the potential use of nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes, Cu nanoparticles, Ag nanoparticles, TiO2, SiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2, and Fe2O3 nano oxides for enhancing the mechanical strengths and durability of concrete have been explored in the current study. It has been observed that the addition of nanomaterials would improve the corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength etc. of cementitious composites. However, the exact mechanism responsible for improvement in the characteristics of nano based cementitious materials is not clear so far. Thus, more researches and investigations are required in order to use the nanomaterials in civil engineering and construction sector effectively. Key words: nanomaterials, construction industry, concrete, mechanical strengths, durability I. Introduction Nanotechnology was first introduced by physicist Richard P. ... • 12. Pursuing A Law Degree During My Sophomore Year Of College I first acquired an interest in pursuing a law degree during my sophomore year of college. In order to prepare myself, I chose to major in criminal justice, with the intention of becoming a defense attorney. During my senior year, I decided that I did not want to go to law school directly after college. Shortly after graduation, I moved to New York City and explored other career options. However, I remained open to a career in law. Moving to New York City from Miami broadened my view of the world, and was challenging. Some of those challenges, that I overcame, enabled me to realize my potential as an advocate and a lawyer. When I first moved to New York City, I transferred locations with my current employer and I also pursued modeling. I successfully acquired non exclusive contracts with multiple agencies and booked jobs directly with companies. Some of the most memorable moments of my lifetime occurred when I modeled. I had dynamic travel experiences, met some of my favorite celebrities, and was exposed to the entertainment industry. On the other hand, sometimes it was necessary to advocate on my own behalf; this reignited my desire to attend law school. For instance, there was an incident with an agent who booked me for a promotional modeling job that was cancelled, and I was not informed until I arrived at the venue. Consequently, I notified the agent, and requested full payment from the client. Fortunately, I received full payment, because I took that initiative. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Health of College Students Rob Geis, a current college student, explains, A student is not at fault for unwanted weight gain. It is the college meal plans that cause the gain in weight. Many colleges require incoming freshmen to be on a meal plan (Geis). Parents like the meal plans because they know their child is getting meals every day, but the plan does have its downsides. Geis believes that many students do not eat three meals every day. If we don t eat every meal we are given, we are wasting our money which was used to buy the meal plan. So, it is either gain weight or waste money (Geis). This may cause the family of the student to get upset. When the family checks on the student, the family may find something wrong with the child. The family will try and help, but the student may refuse, thinking that he or she is fine. This could cause embarrassment in the student and make his or her situation worse. There are many ways to stay healthy on campus. To begin with, the American College Health and Association states that The top five threats to academic performance are stress; a cold, flu or sore throat; sleep difficulties; concerns for friends or family; and depression (qtd. in Dineley). When a student s grade drops from any of the five threats, his or her future can be affected. A student s career can depend on his or her grades and health. Dineley tells the first way to stay healthy is to get plenty of rest. Many students get too little of sleep, which causes illness ( College ) . A student with an illness could miss class. Besides missing class, a student will have less time to study and learn. The second way to stay healthy according to Dineley is to exercise more often. However, many students do not have enough time to exercise; especially dealing with the stress of college ( College ). A student s top priority might be his or her grades. If a student slacks on exercising, his or her physical health may deplete rapidly. Ultimately, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hall PAD 525: Constitution Administrative Law Dr. Lee January 29, 2012 Was there ever a period in history where interracial marriages and sex among people of different races was considered illegal? As absurd as this idea sounds, the answer is yes. Astonishingly, less than 40 years ago marrying someone of a different race was considered illegal. Black people could not be with white people it just couldn t happen. In November 1881, the plaintiff in error, Tony Pace, a negro man, and Mary J. Cox, a white woman, were indicted under section 4189, in a circuit court of Alabama, for living together in a state of adultery or fornication, and were tried, convicted, and sentenced, each to two years of imprisonment in the state penitentiary (http://laws.findlaw.com/us/106/583.html). On appeal to the Supreme Court of the state the judgment was affirmed, Pace brought the case here on writ of error, insisting that the act under which he was indicted and convicted is in conflict with the concluding clause of the first section of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution, which declares that no state shall deny to any person the equal protection of the laws [106 U.S. 583, 584]. Loving v. Virginia originates from the Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia in 1967, very many years after Pace v. Alabama. Once again, Anti Miscegenation Statutes come back into the big picture. This case is landmark in the sense that it presents a constitutional question never presented in the courts in history: whether a statutory scheme adopted by the State of Virginia to prevent marriages between persons solely on the basis of racial classifications violates the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Dual Nature Of The French And English Faultline In Canada When the French settled into Canada 400 years ago independently of the British, the first stages of French/Francophone identity was formed. Over time this unique identity began to emerge and become something different from the rest of Canada. Language, history, and the geography of their land continues to evolve and separate the Francophones from Canada as their land and way of life is special to our nation. The dual nature of the French/English faultline in Canada manifested early on in history when New France was threatened by British occupation, ultimately leading to Confederation; we can continue to see this in modern times through referendums which deal with French culture and separation. Quebec is also unique geographically, containing mild to arctic climate zones and 4 geophysical regions; this is very diverse for a single province in Canada. These regions in Quebec allows for a diverse economic industry, including: hydroelectric production, agriculture, forest and mining industries. The economic production through Quebec s varying geography and their individual French culture and history is what makes Quebec a unique region in Canada. Settlers came from France when Samuel Du Champlain travelled the St. Lawrence Valley to set up the first permanent French settlement in 1608. • 17. A Lack Of Dignity By Ernest J. Gaines A lack of dignity was shown throughout A Lesson Before Dying in the characters of Grant, Jefferson, Miss Emma, Tante Lou, and Vivian. All of these characters in the novel struggled with their lack of human morals which reflected on their impertinent actions towards themselves and among others. The story takes place in the1940 s small Cajun town of Bayonne, Louisiana. In this time period there was an abundance of racial segregation between african american people and a strong bias towards white people. This shouldn t be an excuse or reason of why there was very little dignity throughout the novel. Furthermore, Ernest J. Gaines gives us plenty of examples of how these characters showed this lack of dignity among themselves and others. Grant Wiggins, a school teacher, is the most educated man in the community. He s been to the university and came back home to teach at the same school that he went to growing up as a child. This is an achievement of itself , and most of the people in his community show him lots of respect for taking on this ruthless job. Unfortunately, his lack of dignity is shown by him seeing his work at the school as being useless or unworthy. His perspective towards his own community is that nothing ever changes and that all of these years of slavery had brought his people s advancement to a sudden stop. Because of this feeling Grant shows several times in the novel that he wants to leave town and start a new life somewhere else. He says in the novel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cover Letter Challenges of American Indians in the United States Health System The difficulty encountered was on the attempt to harmonize the various figures and facts like years to a coherent essay without moving back and forth with the figures hence mixing up the reader. It was interesting to learn new facts about the American Indians and the services that I would otherwise assume are common with people. The driving force behind the choice of this topic is that I have heard on several occasions that this minority group among others struggled with the health care hence wanted to discover the reasons behind it. The U.S. Health care system has undergone many changes and adjustments meant to provide quality health care to all Americans with the latest adjustments put in place with the coming of President Obama. The Obama health care plan is aimed at ensuring that all Americans, regardless of the race and economic status are privy to adequate health care that is affordable and within their reach. This would come as an absolute relief to the American Indians as well as the Alaska Native who have been suffering alienation from the health care from historical years. Background It is because of this historical injustice meted against the American Indians over the historic development of this nation that there have been various legislations targeted toward ensuring the American Indians too get the adequate medical care. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People are going hungry because of poverty, not because of a shortage of food (Silverbush, 2012). The problems arising from factory farms are only getting bigger and more disastrous to the environment. These farms raise hundreds or thousands of animals in close confinement; otherwise know as concentrated animal feeding operations or CAFOs. Large CAFOs are controlled under federal and state pollution regulations because they produce massive quantities of animal waste that can pose environmental and heath hazards if mishandled (Weeks, 3). So why would farmers be farming this way it is so dangerous? The answer is simple; these farms can produce large quantities of food cheaply. If a farm can produce more hogs or calves, its profit is larger. In order for farmers to stay on their land, they are forced into poorly paid off farm employment (Food). Livestock farmers are told that they must adopt the new industrial technologies that make CAFO s feasible, if they expect to have a future in farming (Kallen, 64). The byproducts of such farms are producing harmful odors. The runoff from these farms pollutes streams and groundwater with antibiotics, insecticides, pathogens and emits poisonous gases that are hazardous and create offensive odors (Weeks, 2). The question now becomes, is factory farming the only way out? Is an industrial approach to agriculture needed to feed the poor and hungry of the world? The answer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fragile X Syndrome is a mental retardation that affects social, learning and intellectual disabilities. Symptoms arise when the mutated gene, FMR1, cannot produce enough of the protein, FMRP, that the body s cells need to function. The symptoms can vary from each affected individual depending on how severe the gene mutation is. Fragile X causes symptoms such as intelligence and learning difficulties. • 29. Materials Of A Rocket Or Space Shuttle Abstract: Many people think that going to the outer space is not that complex when talking about the materials of a rocket or space shuttle. Most people believe that metal is all that is needed and that in fact that is all it has. The truth is that it required a lot of research and procedures to come up with the right materials to people to withstand rigorous conditions. In other words, materials had to be engineered to work with extreme heat, cold and pressure changes. Due to some other issues such as collision from debris and unforeseen events the space shuttle had to be cancelled. The risks were too high even with all the engineering of materials. During the 1955 the race to see who would send the first astronaut to space began between the United States and the Soviet Union. At that time, they were using rockets without the thought of being reused. All they really want was to win the race of who would send the first astronaut to space. As time went by, they decided that the rockets should be able to be reused. The problem with the first designs is that they were disposable and expensive. So in 1972 the space shuttle program officially began. The shuttle were a way to lower the costs by having an aircraft connected with a rocket that would boost it out of space and then be able to land on earth. It showed the event of African American racism in 1930 through the eyes of the narrator. Ralph Ellison shows his journey through the white dominated society. Ellison intended outcome is to us about the African American society; tell us about the racial, white dominated society; tell us about his experiences in 1930. Ellison intends to write about the African America society in 1930. He tells us the African Americans are constantly discriminated. They are blind to the fact that they are being mistreated and avoid knowing the truth. They try to find their identity in a White dominated society. The Narrator thinks that he is alive to support and gain recognition of white people. He spends many years trying to blend into society. Another example is Mr. Bledsoe. He is an African American person who puts blending into white society above his own people. He declares that he would bring down every African American before he loses his job. Ellison shows how African Americans try to join white society and those that have been excepted keep it as an accomplishment and would never give it away. The second intended outcome was to tell us about racial, white dominated society. He tells us that they discriminated African Americans and believed that every one of them was not a human. They also believed that every African American was a tool. The Narrator tells us that he was thrown into a battle royal for the white people to enjoy. Then after the battle, he was shown money, but it was a fake and a trick to entertain the white people. A second example is the statue of the founder. The Narrator sees that the statue shows a symbolism that white people still did not believe that African Americans were not entirely free. Another example is when the narrator is in the hospital. While he is at the hospital the doctor tests electrical shock therapy on the narrator and even tries to castrate him. The white people believe that African Americans are not entirely free and that they can be used for their own entertainment or for their testing. He made a serious speech trying to comfort and bolster the people in their times of hardship and despair. Freedom from fear was the fourth freedom that he spoke about, defining it as a world wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor. Some of the major failures that my group talked about was the forced sterilization, state of emergency, religious divide, censorship and corruption. The mass forced sterilization was ultimate failure in my eyes and as I talked about prior a major human rights violation. Interestingly, Indira Gandhi had no gender policy during her reign. One would think that a women politician would want to address so many of the problems that plague women on a daily basis. If I was a women in India during the time where Indira Gandhi came to power, I would have been devastated that she was not interested in improving women s rights. Indira also reinforced the religious divide within India, especially for the Sikhs. She ended up exacerbating tensions in the region, which ultimately lead to her demise. The hemes job is to accumulate oxygen in the blood cells, so when it does not store the hemes the porphyrins amass causing issues. These issues or symptoms manifest as extreme hair development, hunger for blood, photosensitivity, skin abrasions, receding gum lines, and worst of all it impairs organs (Daempfle, 2016). Due to the body s failure to produce hemes blood transfusions are required for affected individuals. So, we know what the disease is and that it is inherited, but how is it inherited? Although the majority of disease are contained in recessive alleles, porphyria occurs in dominant alleles as well (Daempfle, 2016). The two forms of this disease are autosomal dominant pattern (AIP), and autosomal recessive patterns (congenital). The Sancho Panza syndrome (then) and the American dream (then and now) In the 15th century, the combination of the Sancho Panza Syndrome and the American dream fueled exploration at that time and created an incredibly enticing allure of the New World. Exploration and colonization were performed to attain a higher social status, more wealth, and fame. The result of this exploration led to the discovery of new lands and laid the foundation for new countries, but it came with a cost. The perils of the new land discovered were often incredibly treacherous and sometimes times even life threatening, however, the American dream never faded away. The American dream today holds very similar to the American dream in the 15th and 16th centuries despite the gap of 500 years. These dreams are very alike, because they both are comprised of individuals trying to achieve success in lands of opportunity, and although some were prosperous, others were not so fortunate. The American dream today is a household concept, which states that if a person works hard enough, he or she can make a better life for themselves. This concept inspires countless people every day to overcome adversity in attempt to better their life. On a personal level, I can relate to this dream vicariously through my father. My grandfather immigrated to the United States in 1923 from Bisaccia, Italy. The Procaccino family stood firmly on the belief that following the American dream was key to success, but despite how hard my great grandfather worked, the Great Depression drained the money out of the Procaccino household. Another disadvantage of FPTP can occur in marginal constituencies, where voters tend to change their party loyalty from election to election, and among floating or swing voters, who have no firm party loyalty. • 42. Comparison Of Depression In The Big Sur By Jack Kerouac Depression affects 350 million people and is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Everyone deals with depression a different way but it is not easy, the best way is to see a professional and talk about it to try to let it all out, but most people come up with their own way. Depressed modern poets such as Jack Kerouac and Sylvia Plath tried to shock themselves into reality and heal their depression and feelings about certain subjects with alcohol and electroconvulsive therapy but could not. They both decided to chose the outlet of poetry and release their negative feelings by writing about similar themes. This becomes evident when one draws similarities between themes such as isolation, nature and love proven by examining The Big Sur by Jack Kerouac and many poetic works from Sylvia Plath. Being a popular poet can do alot to one, and if ones fans only care about their work and not their true feelings the artist tends to feel isolated. When one is depressed he/she tends to isolate themselves. Kerouac and Plath both do this when they are writing. In many of Plath s poems she writes about her loneliness, and in some she even tells God. Plath is so depressed that she associate s life with loneliness, which proves that Plath feels she is isolated God, but life is loneliness (Under the Night Starry Sky, Plath). Plath feels empty, she feels useless, she is tired and just wants to relax, this proves that Plath is giving up and she is so upset with her life that she does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Analysis Of The Limerence Of Martha Leo Verrillo Professor Abbott English 102 3 October 2017 The Limerence of Martha Because of their similarities, Martha and Jimmy Cross are the same person. This comparison between two characters is also common amongst many previous novels, novellas, and short stories. A foil is defined as, by Literary Devices, qualities that are in contrast with the qualities of another character, but it can also be used as comparisons. Consistently Jimmy Cross lacks the focus needed to do his job. That was his ultimate downfall as he was the weak link that killed Ted Lavender. Once Ted Lavender was gone, only then did he listen to his higher ups. Martha was his authority before them. The question remains as to what Martha worshipped before her tragedy, but maybe that just wasn t needed for the story to go on. Martha became a Lutheran Missionary. It is a common debate that women must be silent or subservient in the church. They are allowed to teach other women and children, of course, but not men as 1 Timothy 2:11 12 states A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. Even with examples of God Choosing women to speak for him, like Deborah the mother in Israel, Martha was probably not in a church that was tolerant toward women leaders. Regardless of if she leads the entire world, she is still religious. This would mean she has one commander: God. She has a loyalty to God as Jimmy Cross has a loyalty to The Commander in Chief, the President. They are both, in their most simplistic forms, invisible rulers that were always there going unacknowledged until death.
