Who Is Jim Carey A Hero
Hello there, this writing piece is about my hero Jim Carrey. In this piece, I will tell you about the
things Jim Carrey has done for me over the years. Firstly, I will be telling you about his battle with
depression and how it affected me.
Last year, around halfway through the year, I had very bad depression. I soon learned that Jim Carrey
also had bad depression at one point. This is when I started fighting depression. When I stopped
having suicidal thoughts. When I started having thoughts like Wait a second, he s not my friend! I m
just one of his cronies! That thought had a few... bad names in it, but were removed due to them being
rude. After I had that thought I decided to completely ignore them. But they had strengths in numbers
He, being the most popular kid in school, had as many friends as you could count. But I, being now
the most unpopular kid in school, had only the kids he had bullied. There was Jawn, my best friend
since kinder, Jonty, who up until that point I had never been friends with, Darcy, who was much taller
than me and hated him with a burning passion, and Bradley, who was like an undercover spy, spying
on what they said about us. The battle continued, and I started doing horrible in school because I didn
t get much sleep, maybe 6 7 hours a night, but I still tried my best, because there were Jim Carrey
movies I haven t watched. But soon enough I was running out of Jim Carrey movies to watch. The
depression started to take over. I started getting

Inevitable Events In Ancient Greece Essay
The events that factored in Ancient Greece s downfall were inevitable in the sense that some of the
events were destined to happen. Though a few of the events could have been avoidable like the city
states and their function as a nation. Each city state acted as a separate, independent country, which
did not bring unity to Greece, instead it made Greece too vulnerable. These differences of the city
states eventually led to wars that drastically changed the nation such as the Persian and Peloponnesian
Wars, which both involved the two most infamous city states, Sparta, and Athens. The inevitable
event, that factored in Ancient Greece s downfall, was Alexander the Great s death. Alexander played
a major role in Ancient Greece s unity. Alexander was one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of the prosperous cities obtained its own government system, which made the cities like
individual countries. These cities are known as city states or polis . There was not a definite
government system in these city states. Some city states had a democracy, but others had a monarchy,
or aristocracy (Mavommatis). The city states were constantly at odds with each other because they
would abuse and take for granted one another s resources such as; stealing goods and taking it to one s
homeland without ever paying for it (Mavommatis). Two of the most notorious city states, which both
were vastly different, were Sparta and Athens (O Connell 41 43). For example, in an article written by
Panayiotis P. Mavommatis, Mavommatis described the two city states by pointing out education was
mostly about philosophy and arts in Athens, and solely military in Sparta (Mavommatis). Athens
started off as a monarchy, changed to an aristocracy then later changed to a direct democracy. Athens
democracy system had an elected council of 500 men. Common citizens could vote only if they were

Compare And Contrast Byronic Heros From Hamlet
A Byronic hero is an antihero of the highest order. In the seventeenth century, William Shakespeare
wrote the play Hamlet. Four centuries later, the television show Breaking Bad aired. Even though
these two pieces of media were written hundreds of years apart they still shared something in
common: their main characters were Byronic heroes. Hamlet from Hamlet and Walter White from
Breaking Bad display the characteristics of an ultimate antihero. They are Byronic heroes because
each has a troubled backstory, each is an anti hero, both are criminals, have high intelligence and
useful skills, and have deep rooted psychological and emotional issues. Each character had to
experience their own trauma to which led them to become the Byronic heroes that they are. Hamlet s
father, King Hamlet, was murdered by his uncle, Claudius, in cold blood. While still in grief, his
mother married Claudius no less than two months after the King s passing. Walter White is fifty year
old man who is an overqualified chemistry teacher who has to watch the world pass him up every day.
He must also humiliatingly work at a car wash to make extra money to provide for his pregnant wife
and his sixteen year old son who has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Decades ago he started a
multi billion company but sold his share early in the business for a mere five thousand dollars. Then to
make it all worse, Walter White was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer on his fiftieth birthday.

Calypso Song Analysis
The 1940 s was a time of conflict, despair, and hope to everyone who was involved in war of the
giants. World War II, as the name states was a conflict on a global scale, with a plethora of nations
involved. In addition, many of those nations created pacts of alliances with each other that only
complicated the fighting. One of the nations that was involved was the country of Trinidad and
Tobago, as a key collaborator with Allies against the Axis of Powers, it provided the area for two US
bases (The Roaring Lion). Furthermore, it provided support during the conflict of the Atlantic. During
this time the Trinidad and Tobago culture became a receiver of many different inputs, in the matters of
all aspects. These new inputs of influences forged the music culture of calypso, the voice of the people
in the form of song. Through calypso melodies, the people of Trinidad and Tobago started to tell their
views of the world events, and during this time the major event was WWII. By analyzing the lyrics of
the Trinidad song that was made in 1943, it can be determined what the current events were at the time
and the political opinions of the native people, which was the changing view on the soviet forces of in
the war.
The lyrics of this calypso song talk about the successful war campaigning of Russia, and as the result
of its movement how the view on the country has changed. These lyrics can be translated as the

They had not come to greet me, but had instead come to petition for better working conditions,

belief, too scared to look out the window to figure out what was happening, but my curiosity had
overridden my fear. I gazed out of the window, dazed, and to my horror I had seen my palace generals
and police firing into the crowd of protestors! My beloved citizens were dropping down like flies, and
I was too paralyzed to move from my position and call off the guards, that was one of the largest

Destroy By Peter F. Martin Analysis
Is cheating in sports unethical? Well, according to the Greek God Zeus, it certainly is. In Peter F.
Martin s essay Destroyed, he asserts that cheating is immoral and calls for a shift in focus to the grave
danger steroids pose to athletes as opposed to their corruption of sports. Martin is able to coherently
convey his purpose through adept uses of logos, ethos, and pathos that work seamlessly to promote
acceptance of his argument. In Destroyed, Martin appeals to logos in the form of undeniable truths and
solid reason. The argument begins by establishing cheating as an epidemic by demonstrating the wide
range of steroid use in sports. He slowly progresses towards the conclusion that cheating goes against
the morals of society, making the reasonable connection that steroids are awful because they
compromise the integrity of sports, and for their toxic effects on players. To drive the point home on
the dangers of steroids, Martin notes the death of Ken Caminiti, the whistleblower for the steroid
problem who died at forty one of a heart attack as a result of steroids. To define what cheating is,
Martin uses a definition derived from Zeus, that cheating can be characterized as enhancing otherwise
fair and natural competition. And that according to Zeus, steroids fall into the category of unfair
enhancements. The rational layout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

topic is a moral issue and Martin aligns himself with the ethical side of the argument which allows the

Electronic games are taking over the world. Computers, which were once used mainly for work
related tasks, come standard with Solitaire and other electronic versions of board or card games.
Social media is teeming with casual gamers, playing simple puzzles such as (x) and (y). If access to a
computer is unavailable, it s possible to fill moments of spare time on a downloadable app for a

titles. Why are so many people drawn to gaming? Games are fun! They come in a multitude of genres,

First person shooters, such as Call of Duty, allow individuals to live out stressful, usually military in
nature, situations, without personal harm. If there is an interest, there is a game associated with it
somewhere on the market.
Challenge is the source of a term called raging . A player will rage quit, that is, quit the game in a fit of
rage, if the challenge is too difficult, however, challenge is necessary to achieving a sense of
accomplishment. People enjoy challenges for different reasons. Some like to brag about their feats,
others gain a feeling of control over problems they have solved, while still others enjoy simply
knowing what they are capable of. Most computer or video games include two types of challenge:
Player versus environment, and player versus player. In player versus environment, the focus is to
defeat the computer, which is programmed to fight back with algorithms. The computer does not
think, it only does. After figuring out how to beat the computer, the game can become boring. Player
versus player creates an interesting confrontation because the person on the other side can make
unpredictable moves(decisions). Whether the player is satisfied with defeating a program or another
person, the challenge is readily available to either party.
Just as in traditional sports, gaming is social. When attending a sporting event, people will bring their
families and friends along, enjoying the camaraderie of cheering for their favorite team

Kidney Dialysis Machine
The University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia has a kidney dialysis machine which can
serve the functions of a healthy kidney for patients with kidney disease. Kidney disease occurs when
the organ no longer functions and waste products begin to build up within the body. This disease can
lead to anemia, high blood pressure, and nerve damage. In the process of kidney dialysis, there are
catheters which are connected to veins through a vein graft which is attached to the tubes of the
dialysis machine. In essence, blood is simply being pumped into the machine where waste products
are filtered out. Then the clean blood is pumped back into our body through a vein graft. There are ten
possible candidates with chronic kidney disease who could potentially be granted access to the kidney
dialysis machine. There are only two time slots, so the candidates will be assessed according to
condition and other factors as to who is allowed to use the machine. I believe that Steve should be one

Discovering Obstacles Hindering College Graduation
Introduction: According to the National Center for Education Statistics, of the students seeking a
bachelor s degree at a four year university, on average, only 59% of them graduate within six years. It
is unfortunate to note that even with the extra two years, students still struggle to persist through
graduation, due to numerous hindering factors. Hence, the issue of college success now lies within the
central realm of scholarly research, with numerous scholars applying previously known psychological
theories to education, including Kurt Lewin s force field analysis model, Abraham Maslow s need
reduction theory for motivation, and the self efficacy and attribution theories. Together, these theories

Hence, students must learn to properly nourish their bodies with a nutritional diet, enough sleep, and
limited intake of alcohol or dugs. Next, students must feel both safe in regards to financial and
personal security. Financially security is often what both dormers and commuters alike struggle with,
and often take on 20+ hours of work (a damaging effect on school work), or have no gaurantee of
being able to afford to come back to school the next year. Also, students learn in college and enjoy
their time there if they feel safe enough to explore the campus and walk at night, or use the bus. Hence
a low crime rate should be necessary. Thirdly, belonging means students feel they have close friends
and family to talk to and be accepted by both at home and on campus. In this sense, it is easier for
dormers to find friends on campus, but get more distances with those back at home, while the opposite
is true for commuters. However, if both make an effort to get involved in groups of their interest on
campus, and keep in touch with family and friends back home, they can overcome these struggles,
although it may be difficult at first due to the big campus size and busy schedules. Once the basic
needs are met so far, students must feel a sense of self worth and achievement. They need to

People are usually drawn in by a family connection and their thirst for curiosity conveyed up by the

they feel that they belong. People who normally get called freaks go see Rocky because it is a place

first timers sacrifice is long, painless, and completely hilarious. In fact it would not be half as fun if
you did not bring along some people to enjoy the show with you. Soon as the show started three
people where chosen to be sacrificed. Out of the three of them only one was a male and they made

The Pros And Cons Of Jediism
At first glance, Jediism might appear to be a product of Star Wars fanaticism, merely rooted in the
dreams of overzealous LARP ers. However, in spite of its pop culture origins, Jediism is a philosophy
and way of life for thousands if not hundreds of thousands across the globe. In fact, many true Jedi
(here referring to those who follow the philosophical path of Jediism) have cited that they have no
interest in Star Wars, but simply find the philosophical concepts of Jediism to meet their spiritual
needs, where similar philosophies such as Buddhism fail. Many followers of Jediism refrain from
calling the Path a religion, but instead refer to it as a philosophy, or even a way of life they believe in
the Force but they do not worship the Force. Interestingly enough, proponents of Jediism even argue
that one may practice the Path alongside another religion, such as Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, or
even Islam, and the majority of practitioners are likely practicing their own sort of hybrid spirituality.

The House Of Mirth By Edith Wharton
In The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, Lily Bart is a woman with a gambling problem who further
anticipates to marry a man of vast fortune by going to parties. In The Great Gatsby by Scott F.
Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby is a wealthy man who gained his wealth through criminal activity and throws
parties. In between the both of these novels and the worlds of the two characters, the common themes
of wealth and marriage are shared. Lily and Jay have similar characteristics: Jay uses his wealth to
impress and Lily is interested in marrying a man for his fortune, but turns down eligible bachelors
because she feels that she can do better. Perhaps it d be in both of their best interests to marry each
other. The theme of marriage in The Great Gatsby is portrayed differently than it is in The House of
Mirth. Being that the two books were originally written in the early 1900s, the values of both wealth
and marriage are similar and dissimilar to that of modern times. The way that marriage in The Great
Gatsby appears as is that despite the fact that the spouses happen to be unfaithful to one another, a
sense of loyalty remains present. For example, Daisy Buchanan, Jay Gatsby s love interest, is married
to Tom. Tom is having an affair with Myrtle Wilson, who is also married to someone else. The ironic
turn of events occurs when Tom suspects that Daisy and Jay are the ones that are having an affair.
However, a particularly small shred of loyalty within Tom and Daisy s marriage is best shown

Essay on Brian Friel s Translations
Brian Friel s Translations
Brian Friel s play Translations was the first production of the Field Day Theatre Company in Derry in
1980, which Friel co founded with Stephen Rea. It describes the beginning of the process of
Anglicization in a relatively remote Gaelic speaking area during the 1833 Survey of Ireland, in which
the English mapped Ireland, both culturally and geographically. Years of concerted anglicizing of the
Irish by the British early in the 19th century led to the widespread fall into disuse of the native Gaelic
tongue. National schools teaching exclusively in English began to open during the Survey of Ireland,
and English culture encroached rapidly into Ireland. William Butler Yeats and Douglas Hyde write

Hyde s speech argues that the Irish had by that point indiscriminately adopted all that was English
with little thought as to its value, that the Irish had [ceased] to be Irish without becoming English. 2
He criticizes those Irish who claim to hate British dominance, yet speak only English, anglicize their
Irish names, and remain ignorant of Gaelic literature. His central view is that the Gaelic language is
the most important aspect of an Irish identity distinct to that of the British, and that only a return to
Ireland s native language can halt the process of Anglicization. However, he is careful not to make the
claim that nothing English is of value, but emphasizes the necessity of not neglecting that which is
essentially Irish.
The history of Ireland is one of early scholasticism and rich culture in times when the rest of Europe
had less of a literary and artistic tradition. By the time of Hyde s speech, the nation had become one of
the least studious and most un literary 3 countries of the area, and he claims that the fault lies in a
divergence from the right path. 4 Progressive Anglicization has led the Irish to forget their own culture
and its traditions. The British claim that because the Irish have forgotten much of their language and
customs, they should be content as an integral part of the United Kingdom, and

sectors of society must confront the challenge of sustaining economic development while protecting

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Travel
Viva Las Vegas! If it has been a while since your last couple s getaway, maybe now is the time to start
thinking about taking a trip together. After all, a little vacation time can do wonders for a relationship.
According to a survey conducted by the U.S. Travel Association, 63 percent of the couples who were
polled believe that travel helps couples stay together longer. If travel is not in your budget, do not let
that keep you from hitting the slots. Instead, enjoy a date night in Las Vegas without leaving your
couch by ordering a datelivery box for your next staycation. Not every couple can afford regular
getaways, and for them we suggest a staycation from the comfort of your home or a local hotel. That

If anything, it can detract from your time together. Whether you are on a vacation or enjoying a date
night box at home, you can unplug from the rest of the world without feeling guilt or anxiety over
your messages that are piling up. Your team can take care of while you are gone. Take the opportunity
to unplug from the rest of the world and focus on each other without any distractions. 4. Rekindle
Your Romance A couple s getaway, whether out of town or at home, often allows you and your partner
to reach a level of physical intimacy that can easily fall by the wayside when work and other
responsbilities get in the way. In fact, regular touching starts to ramp up when you are away on
vacation. Whether you are cuddling in bed or holding hands on the beach, increasing your intimacy
levels helps to rekindle that spark both of you had at the beginning of your relationship. 5. Try New
Things The secret ingredient for successful relationships is having fun together, which often can be
brought about by trying new things. For example, a date night in Las Vegas, whether it is in your
living room with a Datelivery box or in Sin City itself, will give you plenty of opportunities to share a
new experience together. If you have never before been to Vegas, try your hand at gambling or take in

Case Study Bronfenbrenner s Model Of Child Development
Wellness paper
I chose Urie Bronfenbrenner s bioecological model of child development to reflect on my stages of
development. In the microsystem of Bronfenbrenner s model, my early childhood family structure
included my uncle, his wife and their five children. I went to live with my uncle after my mother
passed away. By middle childhood, my uncle and his wife migrated to the United Sates and I went to
live with one of his daughters( Erica) and her two children. They became my construct of what a
family represent. Although I was welcomed in Erica s family, I felt as if I did not belong in their
family. The only place I felt accepted was at school. The classroom represented a place where I
expressed my feelings without being ignored or judged by my peers. Also, I had very observant and
understanding teachers who had the best of my interest. I had one teacher , Mr. Francis, who believed
that I was capable of improving academically. At the end of his class, he noted in my report card that I
had potential to be academically competent, however, I needed to settle down and apply myself to
learning. His comments motivated me to do my best throughout elementary school. During elementary
school, I maintained healthy relationships with my peers. There were never any reports of misconduct
of any misunderstanding amongst my peers. In fact, interactions with them thought me how to engage
in fair play, wait my turn, build trust and explore my environment. In exploring my environment, I

Long Walk Home Sociology
Sociology Midterm Video Analysis
1. Summary: The film I chose for this analysis is The Long Walk Home, directed by Richard Pearce.
This film is about Odessa, an African American maid in the Thompson family s household in
Montgomery, Alabama in the 1950s. On December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks refused to obey bus driver
James F. Blake s order to give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger, after the white
section was filled. Ms. Parks was arrested and there followed the Montgomery Bus Boycott when the
entire African American population refused to ride any of the city buses. Odessa supports the bus
boycott and starts walking to work. Miriam Thompson finds herself in the midst of the civil rights
revolution when she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In another event, some racist white boys attack and hit Odessa s daughter and son for having darker
skin and being idiot coons. This is one of many examples of racism being a factor. The ultimate clash
of the subordinate (whites) and insubordinate (African Americans) groups comes at end of the film
with the mob seen at the carpool lot. This shows racism, discrimination and stereotyping all in one. It
is amazing to me to see both how far and how little we have come as a society.

The Importance Of Mentoring
Criminologist James Fox of Northeastern University predicts that murders committed by teens will
skyrocket as the population of kids 10 and under is higher than population of 21st century teens by
20%. (Stephens) Mentoring is the act of helping out someone that isn t as knowledgeable or

To be a good mentor you have to have great qualities like being helpful and being really good at
giving good constructive criticism. Whomever you re mentoring should receive information that is
both positive and negative. You want to makes sure you give pros and cons so that your mentee can

talking about life experiences, having lunch together, and visiting the mentor s home for a bonding

to be a waste of money, they are beneficial to girls because they prevent peer pressure, diseases, and
pregnancies; encourage girls to be more mannerable, respectful, and ladylike; and results in kids being
more likely to graduate high school and attend college. Mentoring is necessary to a healthy society

black people as being an inhuman act. In the novel, death is shown to be more preferable than slavery.

William Harvey Research Paper
Science has given the world countless inventions that make human life and progression sophisticated.
From ancient times to today, scientific discoveries continue to advance. During the Scientific
Revolution (sixteen hundreds), numerous inventions and theories were devised. Galileo Galilei
established the Law of Inertia, invented the telescope, and perfected the Scientific Method. Isaac
Newton made stellar revelations in physics and calculus. Finally, Benjamin Franklin made advances in
technology. He invented gadgets such as bifocals, the odometer, and the lightning rod. Along with
these wise men, William Harvey s discovery greatly affected the people of his time, and still does to
this day. William Harvey, a British doctor, stated that blood pumped by the heart circulates throughout
the entire body.

practice bloodletting. Bloodletting was the withdrawal of large amounts of blood in a specific body
part in order to get disease or infection out of an ill patient s system. This practice was not safe and
ended in many deaths. William Harvey s discovery allowed sick patients to get safe, correct treatment.
It also gave doctors a deeper understanding of the human body and the knowledge to improve
medicine. In short, William Harvey made patient care safe and practical, and gifted fellow and future

The weather affects us constantly, whether rain or shine. Tropical storms and hurricanes have been in
the news a lot lately. Since I live on the Gulf of Mexico I have learned that during hurricane season it
is critical to pay attention to the weather and be prepared for a hurricane. I think about how much
more damage would be caused and how many lives could be lost if we didn t have an understanding of
the weather. Even today with resources such as the weather channel and local news reports we cannot
prevent damage to the environment completely. We can however evacuate people to save lives and

Analysis Of The Republic By Plato
Hereafter, one finds themselves entering into the territory of the second metaphor enumerated by Plato
in The Republic. The Image of the Line, once more is intended to give sustenance to the analyzation
of goodness and is a direct relation to The Simile of the Sun. In this metaphor, Socrates describes a
line which is to be unequally divided into four segments. The segments labeled A and B are to
apportion for likenesses, or the visible realm. This, according to Plato, is a dangerous realm made for
misconceptions and incompleteness. From this realm one can only witness the shadows and illusions
of the material world which serve merely to conceive unreality. Here is where appearances reside and
here is what our senses are able to perceive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is known that goodness exists in segment D and that an understanding of goodness is required to
transcend into truth, but Socrates does not describe the progressions involved.
In succession, arrives the subsequent and conclusive metaphor Plato generates as an armory for his
discussion on goodness. This metaphor is referred to as The Allegory of the Cave and works to
propagate a vivid vision of life according to the value of goodness, knowledge, and truth. Plato has
one imagine an existence of limitation. Accordingly forcing one to view the methods of limitation
prominent in their current circumstances and the influence of philosophy on the human condition as a
whole. Socrates establishes this likeness through the statement, They re no different from us... do you
think they d see anything of themselves and one another except the shadows cast by the fire on to the
cave wall directly opposite them? With this rhetorical technique one must put their own status adjacent
to one of a person who is bound in a cave of darkness and lead to believe this is the totality of life.
Nevertheless, as the allegory unfolds, an individual is provided the opportunity to experience light and
expand their horizons multifold. At first the individual cannot comprehend the expansion and
explosion of light, but then as reality dawns a sense of confusion ensues for what to do next, how can
one explain this to

Mellitus and DM is the strongest risk factor for periodontal disease
(http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0082158). A risk factor that can
occur from diabetes is xerostomia; this is the condition of not having enough saliva to keep the mouth
wet (http://www.nidcr.nih.gov/oralhealth/Topics/DryMouth/). As a dental hygienist, you should
be concerned because this increases the chances of accumulating an oral infection. Xerostomia can be
treated depending on the starting point of your dry mouth. A hygienist should inform the patient about
the treatments that can be done to help their xerostomia because its a symptom of high sugar levels.
With a dry mouth, the patient could have diabetes and being in the health profession you need to be
cautious of your surroundings. This is one important role a hygienist has to deal with, with a patient

  • 2. Who Is Jim Carey A Hero Hello there, this writing piece is about my hero Jim Carrey. In this piece, I will tell you about the things Jim Carrey has done for me over the years. Firstly, I will be telling you about his battle with depression and how it affected me. Last year, around halfway through the year, I had very bad depression. I soon learned that Jim Carrey also had bad depression at one point. This is when I started fighting depression. When I stopped having suicidal thoughts. When I started having thoughts like Wait a second, he s not my friend! I m just one of his cronies! That thought had a few... bad names in it, but were removed due to them being rude. After I had that thought I decided to completely ignore them. But they had strengths in numbers He, being the most popular kid in school, had as many friends as you could count. But I, being now the most unpopular kid in school, had only the kids he had bullied. There was Jawn, my best friend since kinder, Jonty, who up until that point I had never been friends with, Darcy, who was much taller than me and hated him with a burning passion, and Bradley, who was like an undercover spy, spying on what they said about us. The battle continued, and I started doing horrible in school because I didn t get much sleep, maybe 6 7 hours a night, but I still tried my best, because there were Jim Carrey movies I haven t watched. But soon enough I was running out of Jim Carrey movies to watch. The depression started to take over. I started getting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Inevitable Events In Ancient Greece Essay The events that factored in Ancient Greece s downfall were inevitable in the sense that some of the events were destined to happen. Though a few of the events could have been avoidable like the city states and their function as a nation. Each city state acted as a separate, independent country, which did not bring unity to Greece, instead it made Greece too vulnerable. These differences of the city states eventually led to wars that drastically changed the nation such as the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars, which both involved the two most infamous city states, Sparta, and Athens. The inevitable event, that factored in Ancient Greece s downfall, was Alexander the Great s death. Alexander played a major role in Ancient Greece s unity. Alexander was one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each of the prosperous cities obtained its own government system, which made the cities like individual countries. These cities are known as city states or polis . There was not a definite government system in these city states. Some city states had a democracy, but others had a monarchy, or aristocracy (Mavommatis). The city states were constantly at odds with each other because they would abuse and take for granted one another s resources such as; stealing goods and taking it to one s homeland without ever paying for it (Mavommatis). Two of the most notorious city states, which both were vastly different, were Sparta and Athens (O Connell 41 43). For example, in an article written by Panayiotis P. Mavommatis, Mavommatis described the two city states by pointing out education was mostly about philosophy and arts in Athens, and solely military in Sparta (Mavommatis). Athens started off as a monarchy, changed to an aristocracy then later changed to a direct democracy. Athens democracy system had an elected council of 500 men. • 4. Compare And Contrast Byronic Heros From Hamlet A Byronic hero is an antihero of the highest order. In the seventeenth century, William Shakespeare wrote the play Hamlet. Four centuries later, the television show Breaking Bad aired. Even though these two pieces of media were written hundreds of years apart they still shared something in common: their main characters were Byronic heroes. Hamlet from Hamlet and Walter White from Breaking Bad display the characteristics of an ultimate antihero. They are Byronic heroes because each has a troubled backstory, each is an anti hero, both are criminals, have high intelligence and useful skills, and have deep rooted psychological and emotional issues. Each character had to experience their own trauma to which led them to become the Byronic heroes that they are. Hamlet s father, King Hamlet, was murdered by his uncle, Claudius, in cold blood. While still in grief, his mother married Claudius no less than two months after the King s passing. Walter White is fifty year old man who is an overqualified chemistry teacher who has to watch the world pass him up every day. He must also humiliatingly work at a car wash to make extra money to provide for his pregnant wife and his sixteen year old son who has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Decades ago he started a multi billion company but sold his share early in the business for a mere five thousand dollars. Then to make it all worse, Walter White was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer on his fiftieth birthday. Byronic heroes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Destroy By Peter F. Martin Analysis Is cheating in sports unethical? Well, according to the Greek God Zeus, it certainly is. In Peter F. Martin s essay Destroyed, he asserts that cheating is immoral and calls for a shift in focus to the grave danger steroids pose to athletes as opposed to their corruption of sports. Martin is able to coherently convey his purpose through adept uses of logos, ethos, and pathos that work seamlessly to promote acceptance of his argument. In Destroyed, Martin appeals to logos in the form of undeniable truths and solid reason. The argument begins by establishing cheating as an epidemic by demonstrating the wide range of steroid use in sports. He slowly progresses towards the conclusion that cheating goes against the morals of society, making the reasonable connection that steroids are awful because they compromise the integrity of sports, and for their toxic effects on players. To drive the point home on the dangers of steroids, Martin notes the death of Ken Caminiti, the whistleblower for the steroid problem who died at forty one of a heart attack as a result of steroids. To define what cheating is, Martin uses a definition derived from Zeus, that cheating can be characterized as enhancing otherwise fair and natural competition. And that according to Zeus, steroids fall into the category of unfair enhancements. The rational layout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is unfortunate to note that even with the extra two years, students still struggle to persist through graduation, due to numerous hindering factors. Hence, the issue of college success now lies within the central realm of scholarly research, with numerous scholars applying previously known psychological theories to education, including Kurt Lewin s force field analysis model, Abraham Maslow s need reduction theory for motivation, and the self efficacy and attribution theories. Next, students must feel both safe in regards to financial and personal security. Financially security is often what both dormers and commuters alike struggle with, and often take on 20+ hours of work (a damaging effect on school work), or have no gaurantee of being able to afford to come back to school the next year. Also, students learn in college and enjoy their time there if they feel safe enough to explore the campus and walk at night, or use the bus. Hence a low crime rate should be necessary. Thirdly, belonging means students feel they have close friends and family to talk to and be accepted by both at home and on campus. In this sense, it is easier for dormers to find friends on campus, but get more distances with those back at home, while the opposite is true for commuters. However, if both make an effort to get involved in groups of their interest on campus, and keep in touch with family and friends back home, they can overcome these struggles, although it may be difficult at first due to the big campus size and busy schedules. Soon as the show started three people where chosen to be sacrificed. Out of the three of them only one was a male and they made him act as if he were a chair. In fact, many true Jedi (here referring to those who follow the philosophical path of Jediism) have cited that they have no interest in Star Wars, but simply find the philosophical concepts of Jediism to meet their spiritual needs, where similar philosophies such as Buddhism fail. Many followers of Jediism refrain from calling the Path a religion, but instead refer to it as a philosophy, or even a way of life they believe in the Force but they do not worship the Force. Essay on Brian Friel s Translations Brian Friel s Translations Brian Friel s play Translations was the first production of the Field Day Theatre Company in Derry in 1980, which Friel co founded with Stephen Rea. It describes the beginning of the process of Anglicization in a relatively remote Gaelic speaking area during the 1833 Survey of Ireland, in which the English mapped Ireland, both culturally and geographically. Years of concerted anglicizing of the Irish by the British early in the 19th century led to the widespread fall into disuse of the native Gaelic tongue. Hyde s speech argues that the Irish had by that point indiscriminately adopted all that was English with little thought as to its value, that the Irish had [ceased] to be Irish without becoming English. 2 He criticizes those Irish who claim to hate British dominance, yet speak only English, anglicize their Irish names, and remain ignorant of Gaelic literature. His central view is that the Gaelic language is the most important aspect of an Irish identity distinct to that of the British, and that only a return to Ireland s native language can halt the process of Anglicization. However, he is careful not to make the claim that nothing English is of value, but emphasizes the necessity of not neglecting that which is essentially Irish. The history of Ireland is one of early scholasticism and rich culture in times when the rest of Europe had less of a literary and artistic tradition. By the time of Hyde s speech, the nation had become one of the least studious and most un literary 3 countries of the area, and he claims that the fault lies in a divergence from the right path. 4 Progressive Anglicization has led the Irish to forget their own culture and its traditions. The Image of the Line, once more is intended to give sustenance to the analyzation of goodness and is a direct relation to The Simile of the Sun. In this metaphor, Socrates describes a line which is to be unequally divided into four segments. The segments labeled A and B are to apportion for likenesses, or the visible realm. This, according to Plato, is a dangerous realm made for misconceptions and incompleteness. From this realm one can only witness the shadows and illusions of the material world which serve merely to conceive unreality.
