Substance Abuse In Pharmacy
Substance abuse is an issue in every pharmacy! I believe whomever takes on the task of trying to
control the problem has a big job. Pharmacists are in the front lines of this big task. When I was a
technician, I learned how far some patients are willing to take lies in order to get certain controlled
drugs. In the pharmacy, I want to do three things to prevent abuse. First, I want to have an
organized pharmacy. When the pharmacy is in order of our counts, we are more likely to be
confident when we deny a patient who is refilling to soon. There is nothing worse than being
caught in a situation when you are not sure of our own records. Therefore, I believe being
organized in my medication count is foundational of a good pharmacy. Secondly, I want to
approve the selling of needles to patients. I believe in this method because people who are
addicted to certain drugs will keep taking the drug regardless of whether the needles are clean or
not.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Working in the pharmacy next to a pain clinic, I witnessed a lot of drama. The pain clinic was
eventually closed down for questionable practices. What I learned from working with the clinic
is that doctors sometimes do not understand the severity of someone s addiction. That s why it s
important for doctors to see pharmacist more trustworthy because we are truly the drug experts. It
s no wonder these days that everyone seems to be in pain. That s not say people do not feel pain
but pain medication abuse is more prevalent now than ever before due to the increase in heroin
users! Doctors and pharmacists must have quick and efficient ways of communicating. Even when
communication isn t an issue, doctors do not listen to pharmacist s recommendation. When I
become a pharmacists, I want to know why I am dispensing controlled medications especially if
they are in large quantities. I want to be a part of the decision making process the doctor has with the

Regulations For The Army Of The United States
Regulations for the order and discipline of the troops of the United States The Blue Book Barron
Friedrich Wilhelm Steuben wrote the regulations for the order and discipline of the troops of the
United States in the winter of 1778. The Continental Army spent that winter at Valley Forge under
the command of General George Washington. The army was a group of raw untrained farmers and
to this point in the war had perfected only one militarymaneuver, the retreat. The true history of the
Barron s military experience is in question. For the beleaguered Continental Armythe Barron and
what became to be known as the U.S. Army s blue book of drill and ceremony could not have
come at a more crucial time for General Washington and his army. The overall idea of the Barron
s regulations for the army was to bring standardization of how the army performed every aspect
of their daily life. The idea of standardization to any army is paramount to its success. The
Continental Army at this point had very little if any among its ranks. It is very important for an
army to march the same, shot the same, dress the same and to become a group that acts as one.
Doing all these exercises together not only creates a cohesive unit but also a feeling of Esprit De
Corps a feeling of connection from one soldier to another it binds them to one another. An army
with a high Esprit De Corps will fight with more intensity and with a great deal of

the instructive approaches by HBCUs consistently making programs that build minority, especially
African Americans, cooperation in underrepresented fields like, designing, business, and solution

regularly look first to understudies selected in HBCUs to fill temporary positions and low

undergraduates going to these schools can and will be able to feel enabled by the way that they re

Argumentative Essay On Black Tom Island
2:00 a.m., darkness still blanketed Black Tom Island in New York Harbor, a major munitions
depot. Although the U.S. was neutral during World War I it was no secret that they were selling
ammunition to England, France, and Russia. Hence it is no shock that Germany would consider
Black Tom Island a force to be reckoned with. Ultimately, the blame comes back to the U.S., for

only a spark to go off. The blasts, as they were built to do, wreaked havoc at the site. An

What Does My Last Duchess Represent
The Blue Blood s Last Drop In the olden times, tendentious division was abundant between the
aristocrats and the proletariats. Noblemen innately blossomed wealthier than commoners this
presumably caused heightened power and strength regarding the noblemen s virtues in life. My
Last Duchess by Robert Browning precisely portrays an aristocrat through a character of a Duke.
The poem is intense, bitter and violent considering the Duke consistently expresses his insanity
being used against his former Duchess. Browning is renowned for his use of dark humor in his
dramatic monologues. This poem is an excellent example of a dramatic monologue that relates to
Browning s main purpose in writing to explore the heart, mind and spirit of his characters.... Show

husband. He unveils the portrait of his late wife and speaks about how she was extraordinary

consistently described as someone who is full of love beauty, innocence, grace and love. They
developed a diminutive bond which was promptly failed by the trials caused by their differences.

Homelessness in America Essay
Homelessness in America
Here in Tahoe, we are lucky enough to experience a great quality of life, and only a few have to
face the horrible life of poverty and homelessness. However, nationwide, even right outside the
basin, homelessness is a growing epidemic across the country. There are many ways one can
become homeless; for the most part poverty. There are also different concentrations of homeless in
different types of terrain, such as urban or suburban areas. Last, there is the ever growing homeless
population, and how much money it costs us for others to live in poverty. These are the questions
we ask ourselves about homelessness, and the only way we can help is to know the facts about this
lingering subject. The biggest reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luckily, only 5 7% of the mentally ill have to be institutionalized(5), and most of them can find
community programs and housing to help their conditions. Other factors can be domestic
violence. Many women have to choose between abusive relationships or homelessness, and
nearly 25% of single homeless women said they became homeless because of an abusive
relationship in their previous place of residence.(1) Health care afford ability is a minor reason
for homelessness, but a reason none the less. More than half of people living in poverty or
homelessness had no health care of any kind.(1) The reason for homelessness is an easy
question to answer, how many homeless there are in the United States is a harder one. Although
it is very hard to estimate the number of homeless people in the US, we can get very close using
massive amounts of studies and the census so we can at least get a good idea so we can start
helping them. 52% of requests for emergency shelter for families were denied in the last year, a
22% increase from least year.(2) Homeless families in rural areas have very little or nothing to
fall back on if they are faced with homelessness. They are often forced to live with friends or

Reflection On Clinical Skills Activities Essay
Introduction The last week of classes for NURS1005 were a series of clinical skills activities.
These activities refreshed the student s minds on what they will be doing on placement and
how to do it. We got assessed on three clinical skills; taking and recording vital signs, blood
glucose levels and doing a urine analysis. I ve chosen to reflect on taking vital signs and how I
performed them. Reflection is a very important part of learning from experiences which is
essential in nursing. Nursing practises continue to change and it is easier to go with and to add
to that change if you are reflecting on your practise. This essentially makes nursing practises
better for the patients. I have reflected on the process of how I took the vital signs during my
clinical skills activities. I was very nervous but believe I performed them well due to how I was
taught, what I have read and seen and the vital signs signified how my peer was acting which was
healthy and within a normal range. Even though I felt I did them well, there were improvements
that could and have happened since. Most of the improvements are minor in comparison to the
strengths I have but it is important to recognise improvements when needed so you are giving the
best and accurate care. I was aware of these improvements needed and tried to strengthen them
during my clinical placement which helped me learn different ways of doing processes and also
the rationale behind the processes. Value of personal reflection in

Rhetorical Analysis Of John Lennon
Imagining World Peace Through the Lyrics of John Lennon
A Rhetorical Analysis of John Lennon s Imagine Imagine there s no heaven, it s easy if you try.
John Lennon opens his song Imagine and catches the audience s attention with this line. Opening
with a thought provoking question grabs the listener s attention by compelling them to think. John
Lennon was and in memory, still continues to be a leader in the effort to reach world peace. His
songs asking for peace such as Imagine, Revolution, and Give Peace a Chance still have the power
to stir up emotions in people from all over the world. Leading straight to the point, the minimalistic
style and up front approach provide no room to wonder or debate. Lennon s song Imagine illustrates

He is repetitive in the fact that he begins each verse with Imagine... and ends each verse with
Imagine all the people... (Imagine). Similar to Martin Luther King s speech I Have a Dream,
Lennon highlights his point to genuinely imagine what things would be like by reiterating it
over and over. This forces the listeners, to recognize the importants and to continuously feel the
emotion resulting in them really thinking about the changes that could be made in the world.
While it has been thirty five years since the assassination of John Lennon, his beliefs and music
have endured the test of time and continue to influence people today. His effective use of ethos,
logos, and pathos work together to help catch the attention of the listeners and enable them to
feel as though there is something they can do to further Lennon s cause. Using credibility, logic
and emotion this song was successful in the way that it definitely caught people s attention
world wide and still causes a great deal of emotions decades after it was written. Music has been
and always will be an important part of people s lives, it makes them feel some sort of emotions.
I think this song was successful in the areas of ethos, logos and pathos and will definitely
continue to be a memorable song for even more decades to come. After all, John Lennon was
never a public speaker or politician, but he still was able to get his message across

The Philosophy Of Servant Leadership
The Philosophy of Servant Leadership Servant leadership is a theory based on the notion that
one should be a servant to others first, and a leader second. A person should have the desire to
serve others, in order to be a servant leader. The following paper will address several key
components of the servant leadershipphilosophy related to the book: The Servant: A Simple Story
About the True Essence of Leadership, written by James C. Hunter. First, I will examine the
theory of servant leadership including its history, definitions, and major concepts. Next, the
function of this leadership style in the field of nursing and nursing roles will be discussed. Finally,
how this philosophy can be utilized in my personal nursing practice and how the theory has
sparked personal growth in myself as a leader will be examined.
History of Servant Leadership The philosophy of servant leadership began with Robert K.
Greenleaf in 1977. He first came about the idea of servant leadership while reading Journey to
the East by Herman Hesse (Keith, 2016). This is a story of a group of travelers who were served
by a man named Leo. He performed their menial chores and lifted their spirits with his song and
his spirit (Keith, 2016). Leo disappeared one day, throwing the travelers into disarray (Keith,
2016). This ended the journey of the travelers. Many years later, one of the travelers saw Leo in a
new job role as the head of the order that once sponsored the journey (Keith, 2016). Once a servant,

little to nothing had changed in their day to day lives. And it would take another world war, and

Legislation passed Congress in December 2014 to pave the way for Sgt. Henry Johnson, who

Limited Liability Companies
After reading the case of Alex, Bill, Carl, and Devon s business, me being their accountant, a
type of business I would suggest them will be a Liability Limited corporation. Based on their
needs LLC would be a perfect form of business for them. As their company was sole proprietorship
ran by their dad, LLC offers some advantages of a corporation, as well as some advantages of a sole
proprietorship. A limited liability company, commonly called an LLC, is a business structure that
combines the pass through taxation of a partnership or sole proprietorship with the limited
liability of a corporation. (Nolo, 2014, n.a.) The characteristics of LLCs and a partnership
company are somewhat similar as they both provide flexibility to the management and also the
benefit of pass through taxation. The Owners of an LLC are called members. As most states do
not have any limit on ownership, members can be individuals, companies, other LLCs and foreign
individuals. There is no limit on the number of members in LLC. Some LLC also have only one
owner, which is called a single member, and it is allowed in most of the states. Most states do not
restrict ownership, and so members may include individuals, corporations, other LLCs and foreign
entities (irs.gov, 2014)
There are some important factors that Alex, Bill, Carl, Devon and Xavier should know before they
move forward to convert their business into Limited Liability Company.

My Journey
The journey of life is not meant to be feared and planned; it s meant to be traveled and enjoyed.
Waking up every morning, I still can t believe it s been almost two years since I moved to
America. I mean it s crazy, one year ago all the street signs are in Chinese and the next thing you
know I wake up in a world of English. I can still remember the day I step off the airplane, it was a
day that changed my life. Some of my friends were amazed by how quickly I adapted to
America, but that s not true. I had a transition year when I was 13. I have to say; I m feeling very
different from two years ago when I first walk into a world where everyone speaks English.
What most of my friends don t know is that I didn t go to Jericho straightway; I was in Syosset
for 8th grade. I remember walking into the building for the first time. My heart was pounding; I
was sweating. I reported to the administrator, and I was taken to the classroom by the social
study teacher (kind of a leading teacher of the class). I walked through the classroom door, and I
sort of had a panic attack when everybody looked at me. God, I really wish I was dead or
something at that moment. I have to say how I landed in that schoolwas a mystery to solve. In the
entire school building including staff members, I m probably the only atheist there. Every
Wednesday the whole class spends about 3 periods on Mass. On my first Wednesday there, which
is surprising also my first day there, I felt

Alina Tugend Multitasking Can Make You Lose Summary
Alina Tugend is a writer and columnist for the Business section of the New York Times. She has
also had articles featured in the Los Angeles Times, the Atlantic, and Family Circle. In two thousand
and eight, Tugend published an article in the New York Times titled, Multitasking Can Make You
Lose...Um...Focus. In this article, Tugend spends time talking about different types of research and
their impact on today s society to be able to multitask, when instead they should be focusing on one
single taskat a time. She claims that after the nineteen nineties, we all multitask with no regards to
query. We allocate the majority of our time going back and forth between different tasks, and even
worse, multiple tasks at the same time. Tugend s article shows the reader that although multitasking

There is evidence that when we multitask, we tend to lose our focus on the tasks at hand, create
more unnecessary stress on ourselves, and we lose the ability to think properly as the result of a
decline in cognition. Although Tugend has a good case against multitasking by utilizing research
as her basis, she does contradict herself at times. Particularly when she talks about how people tend
to go back and forth from multiple tasks, and how it affects their thought processes and focus.
Tugend says that these people may think that they are handling all the tasks at the same time when
in reality they are not. However, she negates the following. Losing focus is contingent upon what
the tasks might be. You cannot say that multitasking loses focus in one sentence and then turn
around and say it simply depends on what the tasks are. When Tugend discusses the stress
increase, she refers to a study where people who were being impeded upon during the first few

Peace Week in Miss Fox s Class by E. Spinelli
Learning Theory:
Vygotsky is the theorist that drives this lesson. The students will collaborate in groups and
participate in student to teacher discussions during TPS allowing students to build off of each other
s knowledge to acquire deeper understanding through social constructivism which aligns with
Vygotsky s theory. Vygotsky believed that knowledge was gained by students and teachers working
together rather than solely through lecture. This will allow each student to build on their peers
knowledge as well as their own.
Introduction:

Physical, Cognitive, And Health Aspects Of Aging
Just recently I learned about physical, cognitive, and health aspects of aging. Along with that, I
learned that some diseases may be prevented with simple exercise and healthy eating, while
others are unavoidable. Certainly, last week s topics were interesting and optimistic as they raise
awareness to healthy habits can lead to a better quality of life. Since then, I have taken some steps
to become healthier, by being more active. What s fascinating, is that I am learning more about
myself and can therefore, apply this knowledge in my personal life and employment. Upon
examining the titles for this week s topics, it seems that we are going to delve into what psychology
is most known for, the study of the mind and how that plays a role with intelligence, personality,
memory, and identity. I am expecting to learn about the different types of memory and the process
behind it, but most importantly learn about different types of personalities and how that s
determined.
Memory is vital in cognition, as the absence of long term memory is like loosing the information
stored on a computer (Ziegler, 2014, para. 2). I couldn t imagine life without long term memory.
There are different parts to memory, such as long term memory and short term memory. Long term

Essay about Marie Curie
Marie Curie
LIFE OF MARIE CURIE
Marie Curie(1867 1934) was a French physicist with many accomplishments in both physics and
chemistry. Marie and her husband Pierre, who was also a
French physicist, are both famous for their work in radioactivity.
Marie Curie, originally named Marja Sklodowska, was born in Warsaw,
Poland on Nov.7, 1867. Her first learning of physics came from her father who taught it in high
school. Marie s father must have taught his daughter well because in 1891, she went to
Paris(where she changed her original name) and enrolled in the Sorbonne. Then two years later she
passed the Examination for her physics degree ranking in first place. She met Pierre ... Show more

Curie thus began studying uranium radiation and made it her doctoral thesis. With the aid of an
electrometer built by Pierre, Marie measured the strength of the radiation emitted form uranium
compounds and found it proportional to the uranium content, constant over a long period of time
and influenced by external conditions. She detected a similar immutable radiation in the
compounds of thorium. While checking these results, she made the discovery that uranium
pitchblende and the mineral chalcolite emitted four times as much radiation as their uranium
content. She realized that unknown elements, even more radioactive then uranium must be present.
Then in 1898 she drew the revolutionary conclusion that pitchblende contains a small amount of an
unknown radiating element.
Pierre Curie understood the importance of this supposition and joined his wife s work. In the next
year, the Curie s discovered two new radiating elements which they named Polonium(after Maries
native country) and Radium.
They now began the tedious and monumental task of isolating these elements so that their chemical
properties could be determined. During the next four years, working in a leaky wooden shed, they
processed a ton of pitchblende, laboriously isolating from it a fraction of a gram of radium.

Mead Hall In Beowulf Essay
INTRODUCTION
A Lots of great ideas are born and destroyed in a bar or tavern, leaving you to wonder how different
our whole outlook and way of life would be if we did all our major planning and decision making
there.
B This concept is interesting because of how the Anglo Saxon warrior culture in the story Beowulf
that was translated by Burton Raffel, actually uses the mead hall as their main political and party
house.
C Would this be better than what we do today with separating the work from the play? Or was it
just a thing of the times.

G And this form of trade off is brought up when Beowulf shows up in the famed mead hall.

Good Over Evil In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
Each soul born into this life affects people and makes contributions in their sphere of influence.
While some people contribute in positive ways striving each day to be kind, caring for others
and upholding high morals and standards of society, others seem destined to pass each day
hurting others while breaking society s written and unwritten rules for behaviors. Free will
gives people the capacity to make daily decisions that will determine their destiny and allows
people to choose good over evil. The idea of free will is also known as tishmel, a Hebrew word
meaning Thou mayest choose. Tishmel is a significant word to humankind because it offers hope
of redemption for all souls. This idea, found in the Bible, is not a promise or an order... Show more

Conflicts In Touching Spirit Bear
Conflict shapes people s lives in many different ways, somethings that conflict can shape are our
emotions, and personal beliefs. Cole emotions were scattered and mixed up throughout the book.
Cole has lots of regrets in life, one big one is beating Peters head into the ground. Now does Coles
anger get out of hand? Cole expresses angerthrough dancing anger away. One thing about Cole that
is misleading is Cole does not trustanyone who is not afraid of Cole. So this makes Cole very

Chronic Wasting Disease in Whitetail Deer
Whitetail Populations
Over just a century ago the whitetail deer population became nearly extinct, mostly due to a rapid
expansion in the railroad system. At this same time market hunting, weak enforcement of game
laws, and habitat loss contributed to the dangerously low deer populations in the late 1800 s. In
states like Kansas and Indiana deer were completely extinct, being endangered in many others. With
the whitetail deer population doubling every two years there is an estimated thirty million deer in
the United States (Rooney, 2012). Although with these over abundant populations comes the
destruction of natural resources along with diseases and other factors that can tremendously affect
the population. While there are many factors that play an active role in the declination of Whitetail
deer populations, chronic wasting disease is just one of them.
Densities
Predators, hunters, and habitat contribute to the increasing densities of whitetail deer in some
locations. The populations of predators, wolves and cougars, have greatly declined in suburban
areas. This declination has helped with the increase of the deer population. Since the 1970 s the
number of hunters has been declining. This may be because of the number of people that do not
believe in recreational, or sport hunting. For some hunting has become a hobby to show off and
brag about causing others to be turned off to the whole idea of hunting. Although hunting can be
popular it is prohibited in parks,

Economic Benefits Of Cuba s Embargo Lift
Economic Benefits of Cuba s Embargo Lift
The United States and Cuba officially cut diplomatic ties in the 1960 s. After the relationship
between the two nations deteriorated as a result of the Cold War, the United States enforced an
embargo that restricted trade to the Caribbean island (Rothman, Why Did the U.S. and Cuba Sever
Diplomatic Ties in the First Place?). Eventually, traveling to Cuba was also prohibited by the
United States, which further affected the island s economy in which American tourism decreased.
However, after months of negotiations, the United States and Cuba have finally decided to restore
their diplomatic relations. The reestablishing of the Cuban embassy and probable embargo lift will

The Historical Values Of Ubuntu
The argument here that exists is that Ubuntu has no historic significance or cultural value. Its
source and origin cannot be identified as it is still believed to be a discourse that was just
invented for the sake of it. This is why many critics have gone to great lengths to comment that this
terminology is empty and does not have any concrete relevance or even origination and should be
discarded instead of being commercialized or made popular. The societies that practiced Ubuntu
cannot be found either which further weaken the position of this term and its emergence as a value.
However, I believe that Ubuntu should not be discarded only because it has no historic value or
origin because even without these fundamental aspects the term and concept has emerged as a
universal African humanist value. When Africans could not oppose the colonialism, they clung to
Ubuntu as a critique and this ideology has been with them in ... Show more content on

This can be seen by the fact that humanism believes staunchly in predestination and that the fate of
a person is sealed which cannot be changed in the course of a lifetime. Whereas, the Muslim phase
of humanism provides a more logical approach which suggests that the concept of predestination
does exist but it can be changed through efforts. This approach is not only more logical but also
more rational in terms of its existence. It has been said by the Muslim phase of humanism that men
are distinct creatures, separate from the rest of Creation, due to the fact that God gave them an
effective power (Qudra), once and for all time, by which they can choose to act freely . This shows
that the concept of humanism is flawed and man has power over their actions because of which
their fate could possibly not be predetermined. Their destination lies in the path that they choose

In the novel, it is shown very frequently that Jem and Scout struggle to grasp this idea. Their
struggle helps enforce the idea that understanding people takes more than just your view to
understand. This is shown when Scout struggles to realize why her teacher treated her the way
she did. When Atticus tries to explain things from Ms. Caroline s point of view, he said, You
never understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. (Lee pg. 22) Despite
this thorough explanation, Scout doesn t fully understand this topic until the last chapter, when
she finally sees things from Boo Radley s perspective. She said toward the end of the last
chapter, Atticus was right. One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his
shoes and walk around in them. Just standing on the Radley porch was enough. (Lee pg.273)
Harper Lee s timeless message about social equality is still a pressing issue today. Similar to
Scout s struggle, our society struggles to also understand other s perspectives. If anything, we

Southern Manifesto Argument Essay
The government can not change the rules if those rules are not in place in the first place.
Southern Manifesto is a very big argument whether or whether not racial segregation was in
place in school. Although it does not state that in the constitution Southern Manifesto was a
document published in 1956 and written by Richard Russell Jr., Lyndon B Johnson, and Strom
Thurmond. The Southern Manifesto was a document about the attempt to rebel and push back
the Brown vs Board of Edu. Southern Manifesto s purpose was to have racial segregation in
public areas. Brown vs Board of Edu. states that it is illegal to have racial segregation in school.
The argument was very strong because the constitution does not state anything about education.
Because the constitution did not state anything about education there was not a whole lot that
government could do to stop these actions from happening. In the case, they bring up past cases
like Plessy vs Ferguson to help back up their case. Plessy vs Ferguson, this case was about having
segregation laws. The Southern Manifesto used this to help support their case by looking into the
past and looking how it was a good time for them, not looking how it was an awful time for some
other people. In a way if I were to take my bias away from my view over this case, I could see how
people were not feeling the same way... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Effects Of Exercise On Brain Health
There is ample evidence to demonstrate that through the normal ageing process alterations to the
brain in structure and function are directly related to cognitive changes (Glisky, 2007). With an
increasing ageing population strategies for prevention of disease and age related cognitive decline
are necessary to improve quality of life and reduce the associated healthcare costs (Australian
Government Productivity Commission [AGPC], 2013). Physical exercise is known to be crucial
in maintaining physiological health; it can also be used as a means of neuroprotection and assist in
modifiable risk factors for improved brainhealth and subsequent cognitive function. This review

Smith et al. (2013) took a less studied approach to improving cognitive decline by testing the
effects of aerobic exercise on adults (60 88 years old) already suffering from cognitive impairment.
After 12 weeks of moderate exercise there was an improvement of memory and neural efficiency
across all subjects.
As discussed at the Alzheimer s Association International Conference [AAIC] (2012), elderly
people who had reduced cadence, velocity and stride length of just 1.7cm were seen to have greater
declines in cognition, memory and executive function. These gait related restrictions were
associated with an overall smaller brain volume (Bridenbaugh Kressig, 2013). Having reduced
mobility results in an accelerated cognitive decline as being in the same environment regularly
provides little stimulus to keep the mind active. Gait restriction can be improved through physical
therapy and although it may not increase lost brain volume it can assist in reducing the effects of
further decline (Patla, 1991).
Due to the inconsistency between studies there is no definitive exercise dosage or type that can aid
in protection against dementia. However, from the evidence provided it suggests that higher levels
of exercise can be used as a neuroprotective mechanism to prevent the onset of

Current economic research denies the innate characteristics of the entrepreneur. Rather than
attributing economic growth and innovation to personality traits, economists would rather advocate
a form of economic determinism: if an aggressive personality dominated an industry, economists try

By starting a company with a small scale of profitable operation, they faced a heads I win, tails I

Entrepreneurs are not betting the family fortune or making their years spent earning an MBA
worthless; instead, we find that an Inc. 500 founder is just about as likely to have only a high
school education as to hold an MBA and as likely to be very poor as very affluent. The
entrepreneur need not be less risk averse than the average human being. As Jeff Bezos famously
noted, it would have been far riskier for him to not have started Amazon.com than to have started
it. If Bezos had spent 12 years at medical school studying neurosurgery or had to give up a $3
million a year position at his father s company, he would not have faced an incentive structure that
would have made founding a company the least risky option. What is noteworthy is just how
wrong Knight and Mises are with their conception of entrepreneur as risk bearer. Not only is the
entrepreneur not necessarily a risk bearer, he is more akin to an arbitrageur with his heads I win,
tails I don t lose much incentive structure. Inc. 500 entrepreneurs tend to serve niche markets

Disadvantages Of Functional Departmentalisation In A...
Firstly, functional departmentalisation coordinates work and employees through different units.
Departmentalisation based on functions is used widely by organisations. Functional
departmentalisation requires employees with the same knowledge, skills, and resources to allow
them to work efficiently and promotes the development of greater expertise. For instance,
departmentalisations according to functions are accounts, sales, marketing, production, operations

They had the ability to expand the national market like never before. In their publication, authors
Olson and Kenny inform that, Railroads not only became the country s first corporate giants but
also stimulated the coal, iron, and steel industries and linked the different regions of the country
into a single national market that provided new opportunities for manufacturers (The Industrial
Revolution: Key Themes and Documents). The increased popularity in railroading led to an
increase demand for resources needed in the expansion of the nation s railway system. A few
markets that benefited greatly from this demand were those supplying coal and steel. The heavy
demand for steel was caused by the need for railroad companies to forge more railway tracks, while
the increase demand in coal was used to fuel the locomotives once they were on the tracks.
Furthermore, the rise in popularity and expansion of the railway system allowed manufacturers to
reach a potential consumer base that would not be available to them otherwise. While discussing

Its market reforms still aren t complete and its per capita income is still much lower than any

economic growth has caused multiple other issues. China s main focus has been solely on its
economic aspects for so long that it almost seems as if they have been blind to the environmental
degradation, increasing rural crisis, growing unemployment and poverty, government corruption,
deteriorating public services, as well as escalating social unrests that is and has been occurring for

In 1949, China s natural forests were nationalized and private forests were collectivized, this gave
state enterprises control over the forests. The main problem that came out of this was that these
enterprises promoted leadership with higher profits from timber production. This caused managers
of companies to try to increase their profits from timber production but wouldn t use any of those
profits for replanting timber resources because they had no incentive to. This led to China s annual
forest volume harvested to be greater than the growth in forest volume, which directly connects to

Gram Staining Procedure
Bacterial identification procedures are extremely important in the clinical laboratory.
Microorganisms need to be classified, and identified in order to distinguish one species from
another. Identification can isolate organisms that are disease agents, and enable physicians to make
diagnosis s. It also enables physicians to choose the best treatment/antibiotics to address that
specific organism. For example, some gram negative bacteriacan produce endotoxins when they
die, which would be of concern to a doctor prescribing antibiotics. Identifying a specific bacteria
as a source of a disease is the first step in moving towards discovering how it can be transmitted
and preventing reoccurrence. Species can be distinguished by morphology and... Show more content

This staining procedure was developed in the 1882, by a Danish bacteriologist, Hans Christian
Gram. This technique identifies differences in a bacteria s cell wall. It utilizes crystal violet
(primary stain), Gram s iodine (mordant), and safranin (counterstain). Most bacteria fall into two
categories, Gram positive or gram negative. Gram positive bacteria have a thick layer of
peptidoglycan, and techoic acids in their cell walls. This thick peptidoglycan layer retains the
crystal violet stain, and displays the cells as a purple color under the microscope. Gram negative
bacteria cell walls have significant differences from gram positive bacteria. Gram negative cells
have a thin peptidoglycan layer, and do not have techie acids. They also have an outer membrane
that is similar to the phospholipid bilayer of a cell membrance. These differences allow the crystal
violet stain to rinse away from them, then they retain the safranin stain and appear reddish/pink
under the microscope. Although it is very useful, it is not the only tooled needed to identify a
bacteria. Some bacteria, are gram variable, displaying both positive and negative reactions. Other
bacteria, such as Mycoplasmas, do not have a cell wall, rendering this test ineffective. Finally, it

Big Bang Theory The Premise
The Big Bang theory is an effort to explain what happened at the very beginning of our universe.
Discoveries in astronomy and physics have shown beyond a reasonable doubt that our universe did
in fact have a beginning. Prior to that moment there was nothing; during and after that moment
there was something: our universe. The big bang theory is an effort to explain what happened
during and after that moment.
According to the standard theory, our universe sprang into existence as singularity around 13.7
billion years ago. What is a singularity and where does it come from? Well, to be honest, we don t
know for sure. Singularities are zones which defy our current understanding of physics. They are

(CMB) which pervades the observable universe. This is thought to be the remnant which scientists
were looking for. Penzias and Wilson shared in the 1978 Nobel Prize for Physics for their
discovery. * Finally, the abundance of the light elements Hydrogen and Helium found in the
observable universe are thought to support the Big Bang model of origins.
Big Bang Theory The Only Plausible Theory?
Is the standard Big Bang theory the only model consistent with these evidences? No, it s just the
most popular one. Internationally renown Astrophysicist George F. R. Ellis explains: People need
to be aware that there is a range of models that could explain the observations....For instance, I can
construct you a spherically symmetrical universe with Earth at its center, and you cannot disprove
it based on observations....You can only exclude it on philosophical grounds. In my view there is
absolutely nothing wrong in that. What I want to bring into the open is the fact that we are using
philosophical criteria in choosing our models. A lot of cosmology tries to hide that. 4
In 2003, Physicist Robert Gentry proposed an attractive alternative to the standard theory, an
alternative which also accounts for the evidences listed above.5 Dr. Gentry claims that the standard
Big Bang model is

The Anti Roadway Carnage Bill
Dear Citizen, My gripe is with texting and driving. This is one of the most serious public health
issues of our time. I cannot for the life of me believe this practice has not yet been outlawed. Last
year in the United States, driver distraction was the cause of 16% of all fatal crashes, killing
5800 people. A further 515,000 people were wounded as the result of distracted driving. The
worst part is that up to 50% of teenagers the least experienced drivers on the road report texting
and driving. We are teaching the next generation to drive without teaching them about
responsibility. Other states have already passed laws, but our politicians are on record as saying
they cannot ban something they do themselves. How irresponsible! Thankfully, Senator Jim
Duncan is proposing a bill that would outlaw texting and driving. Please click here to sign a

Sincerely, Concerned Activist This persuasive memo is designed to sell an idea, that texting and
driving should be banned. The design put forth by Bowman (2002) is the basis of the letter. The
pacing of the letter is quick, with short sentences and simple ideas. The reason for this is to

first two lines, so there is little time to for the reader to tune out. Bowman also prescribes blending

identity guarantees being a person in the flux of time. The same holds for groups: a group has an
identity if it succeeds in defining itself vis à vis other groups by attributing meaning to itself
that is stable over time. Identity as an analytical concept covers all these cases: identity emerges by
linking past social relations with those in the present. In some cases, even future social relations are
included; in this case, identity is linked to ideas of salvation or fate that include future social
relations in our present existence. All these constructions emerge within a specific type of social
relations in the present and allow an interruption of the permanent change of social relations,
thus creating an identity in which persons, groups or societies can see themselves and be seen
by others as being identical over time. Everyday common sense in our society uses the concept
of identity in a different way; it sees identity is something that a person or a group has. Contrary
to this common sense, sociological sense sees the person or the group as a special case of identity
that has emerged in a highly particular type of social relations: persons are transformed into
individuals in social relations

Siddhartha Gautama, Siddhartha And The Country Of Nepal
Buddha was born in a mountain kingdom, north of India, the country of Nepal. His Birth name is
Siddhartha Gautama; Siddhartha is a compound of Sanskrit words, sidd and artha. Sidd meaning
Perfection and Artha meaning to have a goal, so the overall meaning of Siddhartha is the one
whose goal is perfection. He was born in a second highest caste in a Hindu family. In Buddhism,
Siddhartha is not considered to be a god; he is just a person and only is considered to have
certain abilities, as an extraordinary human. He was kept inside the kingdom until the age of 29,
and at that time Siddhartha became very unsatisfied with his life despite having family and
wealth. Finally he figured out the problems that are happening in the world, and questions
himself why these things like illness, death, poverty are happening. He decided to leave the
palace in the middle of the night. When everyone was sleeping he went to his wife, gave her a
goodbye kiss and left the palace seeking the liberation from the cycle of rebirth. Him leaving
wealth, family and home is known as going for the Great Renunciation. For the next 6 years he
wandered around India studying with the greatest Hindu gurus, and mastered the Hindu practices
that normally leads to Renunciation. He is still dissatisfied with his life; he didn t find what he was
primarily looking for. He thought he is not putting enough efforts and stopped eating. That didn t
help him get what he wanted. He then sat on the bank of the river,

Cash Transfer Programmes As A Means Of Reducing Poverty
Although a lot of literature has praised the cash transfer programmes as a means of reducing
poverty, there still remains a lot to be done in order to win the fight against poverty and
deprivation. Many developing countries are still characterized by harsh conditions as low or no
incomes, malnutrition, ill health, illiteracy and insecurity, among others. The impacts of these
barrages of factors could combine to perpetually keep individuals in the vicious cycle of povertyif
the right remedies are not put in place.
What this section of the paper seeks to do is to analyze cash transfer systems in some countries.
4.1 BOLSA FAMILIA BRAZIL
The Bolsa Familia Programme (BFP) was established in October 2003 by provisional measure
number 132, which was converted into Law 10.836 in 2004 . It consists of the integration of
existing conditional cash transfer programmes in Brazil, namely: Auxilio GГЎs, Bolsa
Alimentação, Cartão Alimentação and Bolsa Escola (Monica Viegas Andrade 2012).This
was done under the umbrella of a new Ministry of Social Development (MSD) (Cunha 2008).
The programme covers three essential dimensions to assist families in overcoming hunger and
poverty:
Direct income transfer to families;
Reinforcement of basic social rights in the areas of health and education, by obliging families to
comply with conditionalities;
Coordination of complementary programmes that support families in overcoming poverty.
The value of the benefits granted by the Bolsa FamГlia

Jews And Booze By Marni Davis
In Marni Davis s book Jews and Booze, she offers readers a well researched study addressing
Jewish immigrant acculturation. Data on Jews, booze, and prohibition is familiar to scholars
who study the histories of New York City, Chicago, and New Jersey. Much to her credit, Davis
also gathers information from southern locales such as Atlanta and California. In Robert
Rockaway s book But He Was Good to His Mother, he examined Jewish gangsters in the early
twentieth century and came to the conclusion that the reason a large number of them worked in the
illegal alcohol business was because of the profit caused by prohibition and the intense thirst
society developed for alcohol that came with it. When he studied further he realized that these
gangsters running illegal operations often were more caring and human than people believed.
Incorporated into this review are studies of the real life activity of these gangsters through
information that Rockaway was able to recover. As Jewish immigrants found their place in
nineteenth and twentieth century America, alcohol was never far from their lips. True, Jews were
known for their abstemious drinking habits, but the production and sale of alcoholic beverages
offered economic opportunity in the United States as it had in Europe, where some Jews were
vintners, brewers, liquor distributors, and tavern owners (Davis). However, if alcohol selling
brought prosperity, it also brought the Jews into the world of mobs and gangsters.

Why Did I Choose George Etienne Cartier
Introduction
Why did I choose George Etienne Cartier?
For my heritage fair I decided to research George Etienne Cartier, who if you haven t heard about
was a lawyer, rebel, politician and railway promoter whose contributions to Confederation were
on the same level as figures like John A. Macdonald and George Brown(Sweeny). If you haven t
heard of any of these people, then don t worry I ll be going into length on all of them, but I ll
make sure to focus from the perspective of George Cartier. Furthermore, if you were wondering
why I chose this topic to research, I would truthfully tell you that the only reason I chose George
Etienne Cartier was because he was as good a topic as anything else, so personally I didn t care
about the topic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
George had 7 siblings and was the seventh child of his parents(Bonenfant), I didn t research much
about his siblings but I did find that one of George s brothers also went into law and was a partner
of Georges during the time he practiced law(Bonenfant). As you can tell probably tell from the
name, George Etienne Cartier came from French background and lived in Lower Canada which was
mainly French, he came from a relatively wealthy family of grain exporters and millers(Sweeny).
Which possibly influenced his views towards Confederation after the repeal of the Corn Laws,
but that s a subject for later, when we understand more about George s involvement with
Confederation. Another thing that could have influenced George about Confederation was that
the fact that he was born around the same time as the War of 1812, which again is a subject for
later. As we know George came from a wealthy family, which allowed him to live a relatively
comfortable life, it also allowed him to be able to access educational opportunities. He studied at
the Sulpician College of Montreal, afterwards he studied law and politics(Sweeny), he was also
able to learn more about law while working under Edouard Rodier, a Montreal Lawyer who was
involved with various rebel groups in Lower Canada(Bonenfant). While studying to become a
lawyer, George Cartier almost certainly was exposed to the

Old Navy Undergarment Strategy
A product type that Old Navy will outsource is an undergarment. We will develop both basic and
fashionable undergarments as a new product line, but we will focus more on basic simple
undergarments than sexy lingeries. Old Navy is one of the American largest clothing and
accessories retailers, and so many customers like to shop at Old Navy mostly because of
reasonable prices and simple designs. Of course, Old Navy is targeting all people, various ethnic
groups and ages as a whole family. However, their major customers are working moms at an age
from 25 to 40 (Flinn, 2011). The interesting thing is that there are undergarmentlines for men and
kids, but none for women, who are the major customers of Old Navy. Here are several reasons why

It could hold customers longer in the store and increase more sales. Lin discussed that 27% of
women have decided against buying a particular clothing item simply because they didn t have the
right bra to wear underneath it (Lin, 2012). If Old Navy starts having an undergarment line,
women would get a new nude colored underwear while purchasing a white top. People also could
satisfy to shop everything from apparel, shoes, accessories, bags, and undergarments at one place
for all family members.
Third, Old Navy s competitors already have intimate apparel lines. Kohl s, Target, Ross, and H M
have various products for a family at good prices. In order to not lose current customers by the
competitors and to compete with other retailers, Old Navy also needs to make something that Old
Navy doesn t have yet, which is an undergarment line.
Fourth, comfortable and simple undergarments are the key to grabbing attentions of women who
dislike wearing uncomfortable underwire bras and rather stop wearing bras at all. Old Navy can
make comfortable bras and panties that feel women free. There are seamless, breathable,
lightweight and thin wireless bras. Those who like wearing simple and basic apparels also like
wearing comfortable and simple

Business Analysis On Business Communication
Although much associated with business still relies on face to face communication, technology has
taken its place in business to business communication practices as being reliable, effective, and
efficient. Whether discussing a major decision with an executive level officer, starting a new
company in search of product and distribution, or informing a department that layoffs may occur,
the communicationprocess remains the same. A purpose defines the reason a process begins. The
initiator, or the sender, has an intended message for a specific audience, the receiver. With business
to business communication, technology used to deliver the message, the environment in which the
communication takes place, and the noise that causes distractions... Show more content on

(About.com, 2011). On a good day, walking into a business to solicit a different product, service,
or partnership opportunity means that a decision maker has been spoken with and an additional
appointment may be established so that decision maker can have more available time to hear
what is being pitched. More than likely, however, a card or name will be collected with contact
information and that particular individual must create a method of re contacting those potential
business opportunities at a later time. Through the use of VOIP, or voice over Internet provider
as a less expensive way for a business to have phone services, a call is made to create a
relationship that could potentially provide additional opportunities. The salesperson acts as the
sender with the purpose of selling his company s products or services. The receiver should be the
decision making contact that had been collected while cold calling. The environment is more than
likely a cubicle to personal office setting and depending on how the day of that decision maker is
going will determine if the noise becomes too distracting. If the message is delivered successfully,
hopefully that salesman will receive positive feedback.
In this particular situation, the message and technology used are appropriate given the environment
and purpose because unless that salesperson makes face to face contact on the initial visit, phone
and e mail will be that individual s only available means of

Dbq Essay On New Immigration
Close your eyes, put yourself in the place of an immigrant coming to America in the 1890s from
poverty or war. Arriving in America and before you can even smell the air of your new life you
are shoved into an island (such as Angel Island) to be vetted and integrated. You spend years
trying to convince the government officials that you are who you say you are. When you are
finally released, are you are homeless and jobless. The only jobs that the government will help
you get are low income labor jobs that you never imagined doing before. Many people believe
America is the land of opportunity, however America is not because it does not give economic and
political opportunity for all.

This common misconception can be made easily. Many people believe that because America
supplies some people with opportunities such as education or increasing the size of their pay by
a little to own a bigger house makes America officially the land opportunity for all. For some
people, they could come to America and be provided with an excellent education and larger
wage in order to supply their family with the necessities for survival. According to Document 6
From immigrations, stories of yesterday, today meets young today s young immigrants , The
education is better... Our house in the barrio was only one room in America our house is huge
we can spread out in different rooms. This shows that when immigrating to America this person s
life improved by finally receiving decent education and a spacious living environment. Although
this person s life did improve those are not the only things that go into America being the land of
opportunity for all. Most immigrants don t get a job and if they are paid minor wages and are
forced to take jobs that no American wants. There s also no economic opportunity because the
government only gave immigrants, low income labor jobs. This is proven by a political cartoon in
Document 7, the context states that, Big Biz represents a larger US corporations and ICE
represents the immigration

2 Timothy 2 Metaphors
In 2 Timothy Paul was writing to his beloved colleague Timothy, pastor of the church in Ephesus,
who Paul had called his dear son (2 Timothy 1:2; 2:1 NLT). The theme of 2 Timothy is Paul trying
to impress his final instructions and encouragement onto Timothy. Within the letter of 2 Timothy,
Paul encouraged Timothy through five prominent subjects ; foundations of Christian service,
chapter of metaphors, the last days, Godinspired Scriptures and Paul s farewell (Jensen 1981, 396
398).
Paul writes about the burdens of his heart, he does this to inspire and challenge his young successor
Timothy to keep witnessing for Christ. Paul knew that the foundations of the gospel were
impenetrable, and if he encouraged Timothy, he would not falter. After Paul encouraged Timothy
about the foundations of Christian service, he goes on to explain these in the metaphor chapter.
Paul explains to Timothy about the ministry itself, by mastering the use of metaphors to describe
persons, things, and actions. These metaphors Paul uses help explain to Timothy what Paul
considered to be the last days, where he forewarns Timothy about the difficult times that are to
come upon the world (Jensen 1981, 396).
The last two things that Paul explains to Timothy is through 2 Timothy were that God ... Show more

good soldier of Christ Jesus. Encouraging him through metaphors that no one succeeds by being
tied down to things of this world. Reminding Timothy that although preaching the Good News may
bring suffering, it is worth it if all who God has chosen find

  • 2. Substance Abuse In Pharmacy Substance abuse is an issue in every pharmacy! I believe whomever takes on the task of trying to control the problem has a big job. Pharmacists are in the front lines of this big task. When I was a technician, I learned how far some patients are willing to take lies in order to get certain controlled drugs. In the pharmacy, I want to do three things to prevent abuse. First, I want to have an organized pharmacy. When the pharmacy is in order of our counts, we are more likely to be confident when we deny a patient who is refilling to soon. There is nothing worse than being caught in a situation when you are not sure of our own records. Therefore, I believe being organized in my medication count is foundational of a good pharmacy. Secondly, I want to approve the selling of needles to patients. I believe in this method because people who are addicted to certain drugs will keep taking the drug regardless of whether the needles are clean or not.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That s not say people do not feel pain but pain medication abuse is more prevalent now than ever before due to the increase in heroin users! Doctors and pharmacists must have quick and efficient ways of communicating. Even when communication isn t an issue, doctors do not listen to pharmacist s recommendation. • 3. Regulations For The Army Of The United States Regulations for the order and discipline of the troops of the United States The Blue Book Barron Friedrich Wilhelm Steuben wrote the regulations for the order and discipline of the troops of the United States in the winter of 1778. The Continental Army spent that winter at Valley Forge under the command of General George Washington. The army was a group of raw untrained farmers and to this point in the war had perfected only one militarymaneuver, the retreat. The true history of the Barron s military experience is in question. For the beleaguered Continental Armythe Barron and what became to be known as the U.S. Army s blue book of drill and ceremony could not have come at a more crucial time for General Washington and his army. The overall idea of the Barron s regulations for the army was to bring standardization of how the army performed every aspect of their daily life. The idea of standardization to any army is paramount to its success. The Continental Army at this point had very little if any among its ranks. It is very important for an army to march the same, shot the same, dress the same and to become a group that acts as one. Doing all these exercises together not only creates a cohesive unit but also a feeling of Esprit De Corps a feeling of connection from one soldier to another it binds them to one another. An army with a high Esprit De Corps will fight with more intensity and with a great deal of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the U.S. was neutral during World War I it was no secret that they were selling ammunition to England, France, and Russia. Hence it is no shock that Germany would consider Black Tom Island a force to be reckoned with. Noblemen innately blossomed wealthier than commoners this presumably caused heightened power and strength regarding the noblemen s virtues in life. My Last Duchess by Robert Browning precisely portrays an aristocrat through a character of a Duke. The poem is intense, bitter and violent considering the Duke consistently expresses his insanity being used against his former Duchess. • 9. Reflection On Clinical Skills Activities Essay Introduction The last week of classes for NURS1005 were a series of clinical skills activities. These activities refreshed the student s minds on what they will be doing on placement and how to do it. We got assessed on three clinical skills; taking and recording vital signs, blood glucose levels and doing a urine analysis. I ve chosen to reflect on taking vital signs and how I performed them. Reflection is a very important part of learning from experiences which is essential in nursing. Nursing practises continue to change and it is easier to go with and to add to that change if you are reflecting on your practise. This essentially makes nursing practises better for the patients. I have reflected on the process of how I took the vital signs during my clinical skills activities. I was very nervous but believe I performed them well due to how I was taught, what I have read and seen and the vital signs signified how my peer was acting which was healthy and within a normal range. Even though I felt I did them well, there were improvements that could and have happened since. Most of the improvements are minor in comparison to the strengths I have but it is important to recognise improvements when needed so you are giving the best and accurate care. I was aware of these improvements needed and tried to strengthen them during my clinical placement which helped me learn different ways of doing processes and also the rationale behind the processes. • 11. The Philosophy Of Servant Leadership The Philosophy of Servant Leadership Servant leadership is a theory based on the notion that one should be a servant to others first, and a leader second. A person should have the desire to serve others, in order to be a servant leader. The following paper will address several key components of the servant leadershipphilosophy related to the book: The Servant: A Simple Story About the True Essence of Leadership, written by James C. Hunter. First, I will examine the theory of servant leadership including its history, definitions, and major concepts. Next, the function of this leadership style in the field of nursing and nursing roles will be discussed. Finally, how this philosophy can be utilized in my personal nursing practice and how the theory has sparked personal growth in myself as a leader will be examined. History of Servant Leadership The philosophy of servant leadership began with Robert K. Greenleaf in 1977. He first came about the idea of servant leadership while reading Journey to the East by Herman Hesse (Keith, 2016). This is a story of a group of travelers who were served by a man named Leo. He performed their menial chores and lifted their spirits with his song and his spirit (Keith, 2016). Leo disappeared one day, throwing the travelers into disarray (Keith, 2016). This ended the journey of the travelers. Many years later, one of the travelers saw Leo in a new job role as the head of the order that once sponsored the journey (Keith, 2016). Once a servant, ... Based on their needs LLC would be a perfect form of business for them. As their company was sole proprietorship ran by their dad, LLC offers some advantages of a corporation, as well as some advantages of a sole proprietorship. A limited liability company, commonly called an LLC, is a business structure that combines the pass through taxation of a partnership or sole proprietorship with the limited liability of a corporation. (Nolo, 2014, n.a.) The characteristics of LLCs and a partnership company are somewhat similar as they both provide flexibility to the management and also the benefit of pass through taxation. The Owners of an LLC are called members. As most states do not have any limit on ownership, members can be individuals, companies, other LLCs and foreign individuals. There is no limit on the number of members in LLC. Some LLC also have only one owner, which is called a single member, and it is allowed in most of the states. Most states do not restrict ownership, and so members may include individuals, corporations, other LLCs and foreign entities (irs.gov, 2014) There are some important factors that Alex, Bill, Carl, Devon and Xavier should know before they move forward to convert their business into Limited Liability Company. Although Tugend has a good case against multitasking by utilizing research as her basis, she does contradict herself at times. Particularly when she talks about how people tend to go back and forth from multiple tasks, and how it affects their thought processes and focus. Tugend says that these people may think that they are handling all the tasks at the same time when in reality they are not. However, she negates the following. • 19. Physical, Cognitive, And Health Aspects Of Aging Just recently I learned about physical, cognitive, and health aspects of aging. Along with that, I learned that some diseases may be prevented with simple exercise and healthy eating, while others are unavoidable. Certainly, last week s topics were interesting and optimistic as they raise awareness to healthy habits can lead to a better quality of life. Since then, I have taken some steps to become healthier, by being more active. What s fascinating, is that I am learning more about myself and can therefore, apply this knowledge in my personal life and employment. Upon examining the titles for this week s topics, it seems that we are going to delve into what psychology is most known for, the study of the mind and how that plays a role with intelligence, personality, memory, and identity. I am expecting to learn about the different types of memory and the process behind it, but most importantly learn about different types of personalities and how that s determined. Memory is vital in cognition, as the absence of long term memory is like loosing the information stored on a computer (Ziegler, 2014, para. 2). I couldn t imagine life without long term memory. There are different parts to memory, such as long term memory and short term memory. Long term memory is further broken down to explicit and implicit memory. Interestingly, I learned that through the use of implicit memory, specifically procedural memory, is the reason behind why I was able to ice skate recently, after not ... • 20. Essay about Marie Curie Marie Curie LIFE OF MARIE CURIE Marie Curie(1867 1934) was a French physicist with many accomplishments in both physics and chemistry. Marie and her husband Pierre, who was also a French physicist, are both famous for their work in radioactivity. Marie Curie, originally named Marja Sklodowska, was born in Warsaw, Poland on Nov.7, 1867. Her first learning of physics came from her father who taught it in high school. Marie s father must have taught his daughter well because in 1891, she went to Paris(where she changed her original name) and enrolled in the Sorbonne. Curie thus began studying uranium radiation and made it her doctoral thesis. With the aid of an electrometer built by Pierre, Marie measured the strength of the radiation emitted form uranium compounds and found it proportional to the uranium content, constant over a long period of time and influenced by external conditions. She detected a similar immutable radiation in the compounds of thorium. While checking these results, she made the discovery that uranium pitchblende and the mineral chalcolite emitted four times as much radiation as their uranium content. She realized that unknown elements, even more radioactive then uranium must be present. Then in 1898 she drew the revolutionary conclusion that pitchblende contains a small amount of an unknown radiating element. Pierre Curie understood the importance of this supposition and joined his wife s work. In the next year, the Curie s discovered two new radiating elements which they named Polonium(after Maries native country) and Radium. They now began the tedious and monumental task of isolating these elements so that their chemical properties could be determined. During the next four years, working in a leaky wooden shed, they processed a ton of pitchblende, laboriously isolating from it a fraction of a gram of radium. In 1903, ... Mead Hall In Beowulf Essay INTRODUCTION A Lots of great ideas are born and destroyed in a bar or tavern, leaving you to wonder how different our whole outlook and way of life would be if we did all our major planning and decision making there. B This concept is interesting because of how the Anglo Saxon warrior culture in the story Beowulf that was translated by Burton Raffel, actually uses the mead hall as their main political and party house. C Would this be better than what we do today with separating the work from the play? Or was it just a thing of the times. • 24. Chronic Wasting Disease in Whitetail Deer Whitetail Populations Over just a century ago the whitetail deer population became nearly extinct, mostly due to a rapid expansion in the railroad system. At this same time market hunting, weak enforcement of game laws, and habitat loss contributed to the dangerously low deer populations in the late 1800 s. In states like Kansas and Indiana deer were completely extinct, being endangered in many others. With the whitetail deer population doubling every two years there is an estimated thirty million deer in the United States (Rooney, 2012). Although with these over abundant populations comes the destruction of natural resources along with diseases and other factors that can tremendously affect the population. While there are many factors that play an active role in the declination of Whitetail deer populations, chronic wasting disease is just one of them. Densities Predators, hunters, and habitat contribute to the increasing densities of whitetail deer in some locations. The populations of predators, wolves and cougars, have greatly declined in suburban areas. This declination has helped with the increase of the deer population. Since the 1970 s the number of hunters has been declining. This may be because of the number of people that do not believe in recreational, or sport hunting. For some hunting has become a hobby to show off and brag about causing others to be turned off to the whole idea of hunting. Although hunting can be popular it is prohibited in parks, ... As discussed at the Alzheimer s Association International Conference [AAIC] (2012), elderly people who had reduced cadence, velocity and stride length of just 1.7cm were seen to have greater declines in cognition, memory and executive function. These gait related restrictions were associated with an overall smaller brain volume (Bridenbaugh Kressig, 2013). Having reduced mobility results in an accelerated cognitive decline as being in the same environment regularly provides little stimulus to keep the mind active. Gait restriction can be improved through physical therapy and although it may not increase lost brain volume it can assist in reducing the effects of further decline (Patla, 1991). This technique identifies differences in a bacteria s cell wall. It utilizes crystal violet (primary stain), Gram s iodine (mordant), and safranin (counterstain). Most bacteria fall into two categories, Gram positive or gram negative. Gram positive bacteria have a thick layer of peptidoglycan, and techoic acids in their cell walls. This thick peptidoglycan layer retains the crystal violet stain, and displays the cells as a purple color under the microscope. Gram negative bacteria cell walls have significant differences from gram positive bacteria. Gram negative cells have a thin peptidoglycan layer, and do not have techie acids. They also have an outer membrane that is similar to the phospholipid bilayer of a cell membrance. Ellis explains: People need to be aware that there is a range of models that could explain the observations....For instance, I can construct you a spherically symmetrical universe with Earth at its center, and you cannot disprove it based on observations....You can only exclude it on philosophical grounds. In my view there is absolutely nothing wrong in that. What I want to bring into the open is the fact that we are using philosophical criteria in choosing our models. A lot of cosmology tries to hide that. 4 In 2003, Physicist Robert Gentry proposed an attractive alternative to the standard theory, an alternative which also accounts for the evidences listed above.5 Dr. Gentry claims that the standard Big Bang model is ... • 41. The Anti Roadway Carnage Bill Dear Citizen, My gripe is with texting and driving. This is one of the most serious public health issues of our time. I cannot for the life of me believe this practice has not yet been outlawed. Last year in the United States, driver distraction was the cause of 16% of all fatal crashes, killing 5800 people. A further 515,000 people were wounded as the result of distracted driving. The worst part is that up to 50% of teenagers the least experienced drivers on the road report texting and driving. We are teaching the next generation to drive without teaching them about responsibility. Other states have already passed laws, but our politicians are on record as saying they cannot ban something they do themselves. How irresponsible! Thankfully, Senator Jim Duncan is proposing a bill that would outlaw texting and driving. Please click here to sign a petition supporting Prop 733T, the Anti Roadway Carnage Bill, and help keep our streets safe. Sincerely, Concerned Activist This persuasive memo is designed to sell an idea, that texting and driving should be banned. The design put forth by Bowman (2002) is the basis of the letter. The pacing of the letter is quick, with short sentences and simple ideas. The reason for this is to generate an emotional response to help motivate the reader. The core of the argument comes in the first two lines, so there is little time to for the reader to tune out. Bowman also prescribes blending ideas, including blending truth and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Persons and societies are cases of identities. Persons have an identity by positioning themselves relative to other persons and by giving to these relations a meaning that is п¬Ѓxed in time. An identity guarantees being a person in the flux of time. The same holds for groups: a group has an identity if it succeeds in deп¬Ѓning itself vis Г vis other groups by attributing meaning to itself that is stable over time. Identity as an analytical concept covers all these cases: identity emerges by linking past social relations with those in the present. In some cases, even future social relations are included; in this case, identity is linked to ideas of salvation or fate that include future social relations in our present existence. All these constructions emerge within a speciп¬Ѓc type of social relations in the present and allow an interruption of the permanent change of social relations, thus creating an identity in which persons, groups or societies can see themselves and be seen by others as being identical over time. Everyday common sense in our society uses the concept of identity in a different way; it sees identity is something that a person or a group has. Contrary to this common sense, sociological sense sees the person or the group as a special case of identity that has emerged in a highly particular type of social relations: persons are transformed into individuals in social relations ... Sidd meaning Perfection and Artha meaning to have a goal, so the overall meaning of Siddhartha is the one whose goal is perfection. He was born in a second highest caste in a Hindu family. In Buddhism, Siddhartha is not considered to be a god; he is just a person and only is considered to have certain abilities, as an extraordinary human. He was kept inside the kingdom until the age of 29, and at that time Siddhartha became very unsatisfied with his life despite having family and wealth. Finally he figured out the problems that are happening in the world, and questions himself why these things like illness, death, poverty are happening. When everyone was sleeping he went to his wife, gave her a goodbye kiss and left the palace seeking the liberation from the cycle of rebirth. Him leaving wealth, family and home is known as going for the Great Renunciation. For the next 6 years he wandered around India studying with the greatest Hindu gurus, and mastered the Hindu practices that normally leads to Renunciation. • 44. Cash Transfer Programmes As A Means Of Reducing Poverty Although a lot of literature has praised the cash transfer programmes as a means of reducing poverty, there still remains a lot to be done in order to win the fight against poverty and deprivation. Many developing countries are still characterized by harsh conditions as low or no incomes, malnutrition, ill health, illiteracy and insecurity, among others. The impacts of these barrages of factors could combine to perpetually keep individuals in the vicious cycle of povertyif the right remedies are not put in place. What this section of the paper seeks to do is to analyze cash transfer systems in some countries. 4.1 BOLSA FAMILIA BRAZIL The Bolsa Familia Programme (BFP) was established in October 2003 by provisional measure number 132, which was converted into Law 10.836 in 2004 . • 45. Jews And Booze By Marni Davis In Marni Davis s book Jews and Booze, she offers readers a well researched study addressing Jewish immigrant acculturation. Data on Jews, booze, and prohibition is familiar to scholars who study the histories of New York City, Chicago, and New Jersey. Much to her credit, Davis also gathers information from southern locales such as Atlanta and California. In Robert Rockaway s book But He Was Good to His Mother, he examined Jewish gangsters in the early twentieth century and came to the conclusion that the reason a large number of them worked in the illegal alcohol business was because of the profit caused by prohibition and the intense thirst society developed for alcohol that came with it. When he studied further he realized that these gangsters running illegal operations often were more caring and human than people believed. Incorporated into this review are studies of the real life activity of these gangsters through information that Rockaway was able to recover. As Jewish immigrants found their place in nineteenth and twentieth century America, alcohol was never far from their lips. True, Jews were known for their abstemious drinking habits, but the production and sale of alcoholic beverages offered economic opportunity in the United States as it had in Europe, where some Jews were vintners, brewers, liquor distributors, and tavern owners (Davis). However, if alcohol selling brought prosperity, it also brought the Jews into the world of mobs and gangsters. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For my heritage fair I decided to research George Etienne Cartier, who if you haven t heard about was a lawyer, rebel, politician and railway promoter whose contributions to Confederation were on the same level as figures like John A. As you can tell probably tell from the name, George Etienne Cartier came from French background and lived in Lower Canada which was mainly French, he came from a relatively wealthy family of grain exporters and millers(Sweeny). Which possibly influenced his views towards Confederation after the repeal of the Corn Laws, but that s a subject for later, when we understand more about George s involvement with Confederation. Another thing that could have influenced George about Confederation was that the fact that he was born around the same time as the War of 1812, which again is a subject for later. As we know George came from a wealthy family, which allowed him to live a relatively comfortable life, it also allowed him to be able to access educational opportunities. He studied at the Sulpician College of Montreal, afterwards he studied law and politics(Sweeny), he was also able to learn more about law while working under Edouard Rodier, a Montreal Lawyer who was involved with various rebel groups in Lower Canada(Bonenfant). More than likely, however, a card or name will be collected with contact information and that particular individual must create a method of re contacting those potential business opportunities at a later time. Through the use of VOIP, or voice over Internet provider as a less expensive way for a business to have phone services, a call is made to create a relationship that could potentially provide additional opportunities. The theme of 2 Timothy is Paul trying to impress his final instructions and encouragement onto Timothy. Within the letter of 2 Timothy, Paul encouraged Timothy through five prominent subjects ; foundations of Christian service, chapter of metaphors, the last days, Godinspired Scriptures and Paul s farewell (Jensen 1981, 396 398). Paul writes about the burdens of his heart, he does this to inspire and challenge his young successor Timothy to keep witnessing for Christ. Paul knew that the foundations of the gospel were impenetrable, and if he encouraged Timothy, he would not falter. After Paul encouraged Timothy about the foundations of Christian service, he goes on to explain these in the metaphor chapter. Paul explains to Timothy about the ministry itself, by mastering the use of metaphors to describe persons, things, and actions. These metaphors Paul uses help explain to Timothy what Paul considered to be the last days, where he forewarns Timothy about the difficult times that are to come upon the world (Jensen 1981, 396).
