Statement of Intent
Kirsty Balchin
I will represent various niche social groups in my current affairs magazine. My current affairs magazine
will interest fairly well-paid professionals and white-collar workers from group B to group C1. the
magazine will interest those called reformers who have a responsible ideology and a group of beliefs, it’ll
also catch the interest of succeeders who care to educate themselves on news from all around the world.
The target audience of my current affairs magazine will be for those who care to educate
themselves
themselves from young adults (16) all the way up to those over 60, both male and females
who vary from all races and people who are from the UK, USA or any English-speaking countries. My
magazine will have different topics which can link to certain peoples ages. As the main feature of my
magazine is about the huge global pandemic COVID-19, which is happening in the world right now, it will
interest individualists such as highly media- literate individuals etc and succeders who feel secure in
control and are generally have positions of power and also reformers who have a caring/responsible
ideology. My magazine interest socially conscious men and woman aged 18+ as my contents are relevant
to them and their everyday life. The company which will be publishing my magazine is Dennis. Dennis is a
company which also publishes magazines which focus on sports, fashion and art topics.
The design of my magazine will appeal to the audience as I will make it interesting and eye catching whilst
still looking elegant and sophisticated- I will use a mixture of serif and sans serif fonts, the masthead and
main subheadings will be in serif fonts as they are more sophisticated and eye catching.
I intend to use media language to communicate meanings through the selections of bold images which
will attract the audience to the magazine. I will be using a colour scheme which attracts every type of

be using bright colours such as pink as they will not attract to older men.
Since the writing on my magazine is all in English it is suited mostly to people from the UK/USA or any
English-speaking countries. I will represent my archetypical groups by the content section in my magazine
which will interest people. I will use media language to communicate meaning as the name of my
magazine is The Global View which is a short and memorable name. When researching other magazines I
looked into the demographic, socio-economic and psychographic profiles of their audiences and used
them as an idea for my magazine and the groups of people who will read my magazine.
Research impacted my planning decisions hugely when deciding what contents, fonts, layout I chose to
use. Research also helped me with my target audience and what price my magazine should be. During my
research, I also looked into demographics, socio- economic and psychographic profiles of their target
audiences to help me decide on what mine could be. I researched a few current affairs magazines found
out how much they cost and how often they publish, I ended up with a price or £4.99 and have decided to
publish my magazine weekly.
For my website, i intend to keep it similar to my printed edition of the magazine, teh website will also be
for reformers and suceeders, the same as the printed edition. My website will follow my magazine as it will
have the same contents and same sort of design by using the same font types, including serif fonts for
main headings and the masthead, and sans serif for other writing such as the subheadings, using different
font types, my website will look modern but still elegant and sophisticated.
My website will have a horizontal bar menu including 9 different contents and also the home page, the
website will also include links to the companies social media, a subscibe button for those who want to
have more information and also a sign in button for customers.
i will be using a common colour scheme of red all throughout the website, i decided to choose red as it is
a unisex colour and links to those of all ages.
i will be using lines throughout the website to make the layout clearer and the website neater as a whole.

i intend for my website and magazine to be linked together in some way, i will be doing this by having the
websites link in the bottom corner so that readers of the magazine can find more news on the website.
The magazine will have additional contents to the magazine.
i will also link them together by having the magazine covers on the website so readers can easily find the
printed editions.
i will also have a subscribe button for the readers who wish to have additional content which is not
availkable for those who do not subscribe. We also have a sign in button for customers.
