For my current affairs magazine, I will use the coverlines to represent the problems regarding race
amongst ethnic minority groups with a left wing ideology to challenge some stereotypes and irrational
arguments, like how people are quick to blame race for the "Chinese" virus and how "ethnic minority
groups are more likely to get COVID-19". Other coverlines will be used to represent young people as they
struggle with the impact of COVID-19 on education because this is a topic that the target audience would
be affected by.
The target audience of my product is young adults between 16 and 25, so I will address them by using a
photo of a model of a similar age, so that the audience can relate to the product. I will also include topics
that affect this target audience, lke education, COVID-19, health and social media etc to capture their
interest. The target audience is young adults from the age of 16, so this type of audience will most likely
be more immersed in technology and social media, so I will use devices, like a phone, in my main images
to reflect this electronic lifestyle of the younger generation, which would address this target audience
more. According to the uses and gratifications theory, the audience will consume my product for
integration and social interaction as my product will fulfil their expectations to find basis for
conversation, to identify with others and to gain an insight into the circumstances of others.
My product relates to other media produced by this company, Dennis Publishing Ltd, by sharing a left
wing ideology as my product supports against the problems that minority social groups face, regarding
race, age and gender.

I will use a serif font text for the Masthead to add a sense of tradition and continuity to the modern style
current affairs magazine. Conventionally, the masthead will be at the top and the main image will be at
the centre, where the audience's attention is mostly at. The coverlines will be surrounding the image at
the sides in sans-serif to be more legible, look more modern and to stand out less from the image and the
masthead. The colours will be used to blend in with the colour scheme of the main image. I will use the
size and boldness of the font to emphaise the meaning of key words as well as giving a sense of
importance to the meaning of the text.
For my website, I will use the content in the linked page, which will be about COVID-19, to represent the
required two different social groups by using an image of two people of different races. This image will
be used to illustrate how "ethnic minority groups are less likely to take COVID vaccine". I will make the
image black and white, with only the skin tones in colour to emphasise the focus on race. One of the
models will wear a headscarf, which will help to also address certain groups of people, like Muslims and
Asian people; they will identify with the model in the media text. The models will both be young female
adults to address this type of social group/target audience.
I will address my target audience by using topics that affect their lifestyle, like the impact of COVID-19 on
shopping, travel, health and entertainment to capture their interest as well as using a podcast about the
entertainment industry to link to the topic of COVID-19's impact. According to the uses and gratifications
theory, the audience will consume my product for integration and social interaction as my product will
fulfil their expectations to find basis for conversation, to identify with others and to gain an insight into
the circumstances of others.
Regarding the conventions of a current affairs website, I will include the masthead at the top-left corner
of the webpage with the menu alongside it with some sections, including my linked page, COVID-19, UK,
Europe and International news. At the top-right of the webpage, there will be "sign in" and "subscribe"
buttons, without social media links in between to promote the magazine. I will also add in a search
engine, which is a very common and useful function to have in a website for the audience. Above the
search engine, the audience will notice a button to the magazine's weekly edition to promote its latest
issue. Conventionally, in the homepage, there will be featured stroies and content to act as clickbait,
like "Reader's Favourites", to encourage the audience to consume these articles. Part of the webpage
will also include the front covers of my magazines to promote the lastest issues of the product. At the
bottom of every webpage, there will be an information section, which is a common convention in current
affairs websites. The colours will be used to blend in with the colour scheme of the images. There will
also be a lightbox sidebar in my website to encourage the audience to follow the brand's social media for
regular news updates, helping to promote the magazine further. I noticed that current affairs websites
use emotive language in their content to trigger a response from the audience, so I used emotive
language, "pandemic hereos" instead of "key workers", in the text and headlines to capture the reader's
attention.

My two products will link together by sharing the same topic, COVID-19, and the same sections as well as
working together to represent COVID-19's great impact and people's feelings, especially as the emotive
language in both products will connect more with the reader, like "pandemic hereos" and "emotional
support" for students etc. The images in both my products will be used to relate to the emotions of the
reader, like loneliness, stress as well as appreciation.
The point of my masthead/brand, "Minds", is that it reflects how news and current affairs can affect
people's minds and emotions. The brand is at the top of my webpages and my magazines in a serif font
type to give a sense of style and tradition.
