Proposal 1
Proposal 2
Further development possibility CM
In the future, due to the evolution of technology and everyone using online platforms, I would
develop a website for my magazine. This would bring in more readers as people will be able to
easily order their magazine online or digitally download the magazine for possibly a lower price. I
could have interactive parts of of the site, for example games or a music related quiz. This would
bring in more readers as it becomes more convenient than having to go to the shop in order to buy
the magazine. I could use Wix in order to create the website as they are a good and easy way to
make a website.
Further development possibility FS
An app would be an ideal way to develop the magazines popularity further for
the future. This is because we can charge a small price for the app, the app
could feature exclusive articles, interviews, faster updates on the music world
and other features which would attract an audience. This is good because
both people who already read the magazine and those who don’t will
download the app as it is for those who are generally into music and want to
hear about the most famous artists lives. The only thing is, app development
can be expensive so it is possible that the company would be at a loss if the
app didn't turn out to be as popular as expected. For example, a company
called IBM allows you to develop an app for free.

be decided, this
gives our teams
a time frame to
complete the
work in a given
time. Also find
an suitable
office space
where the
magazine will be
created.
The editing team of our
magazine will decide upon
topics or content which they
think should be covered in
the upcoming issue of the
magazine. Deciding the most
relevant story’s and picking a
front cover feature
By this stage, the teams
working on our
magazines gather the
content, whilst deciding
what to put into the

important, due to our
teams needing to get art
work and things which
are relevant into the

At this point, the
‘Editorial Team’ print out
a hard copy of the
magazine, so they can
read through it until the
entire of the staff is
satisfied that no errors
have been made. But, if
they have been,
corrections are made.
This is a vital stage as it
ensures that no silly
mistakes have been
made and the layout is
correct and looks good.
Only when the magazine
has met the satisfactory
needs of the ‘editorial
team’ will it be released
to the general public.
After satisfying the
‘Editorial team’ the
magazine gets sent to the
printers, who literally just
print the magazine for
you. Here, the magazine is
‘Pre-Pressed’ and the
magazine has one final
check to ensure that all
images and fonts have
gone through correctly.
The printers print out a
couple of copies and send
it back to the editorial
team.
The ‘Editorial
team look over
the hard copies
from the printers
again and when
they are satisfied
with the print
they have
thousands of
copies printed so
they are able to
meet the demand
of their audience

Target audienceKatz uses and gratification
This theory focuses on the consumer rather than focusing on the message
by asking ‘what people do with media’ rather than ‘what media does to
people’
What people do with media
• To be informed or educated
• In order to identify with the characters and situation
• To be entertained
• To enable themselves to socially interact with others
• To escape from their daily troubles
The consumer is taking an active part in the communication process, at
least we think. And we are goal orientated.
Hartley
There are 7 socially grouped categories when it comes to identifying audience:
1) Self- ambitious or interests of the audience
2) Gender
3) Age group
4) Class- different social classes. For example working and upper
5) Ethnicity
6) Family
7) Nation
Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs
Socio economic needs
According to the Socio-economic needs, my magazine will
mainly sell to C1, C2 and D, they are the our main target
audience, this is because people in A and B may feel to
sophisticated to be reading my magazine so they will not
buy it. Where as the people in C1, C2 and D also known as
the ‘norm’ will be perfectly comfortable with buying a
copy of my magazine and reading it on a train for example
Hand drawn drafts conclusion
Hand drawn drafts are a good way in which I can get down what I am thinking. I am able to draw
what id like my music magazines cover and DPS to look like and then be able to use it as a template
to essentially make the front cover.
They are also good as it is very easy to make a quick change if need be, for example if you draw it
out and don’t like where you placed the puff promotion for example, you can easily rub it out (as
long as its been done in pencil) and do it again.
I have chosen to go with the CM front cover (the one on the left).
Graphic layout conclusion
The graphic layout, similar to the hand drawn draft gives an accurate representation of what my front
cover and DPS may look like. It is more accurate as its in a computer and not done freehand, so the
graphic layout is much easier to do and anyone could do it as its just putting shapes in place.
As its been done on a computer, it is more of a template which I am able to use to create my front
cover and DPS. This makes it much easier for me to make my front cover and DPS look good as I will
know where I am putting everything, so the magazine as a whole will end up looking more
professional and organized.
Mood board – CM magazine
Mood board - FS
Font styles conclusion
I have chosen these two fonts for my two magazine ideas as they are the ones
which look the most professional for a magazine and I feel the boldness
attracts the audiences eyes so they are more likely to see the magazine and
perhaps buy it. I did not pick the other four ideas as I just felt like they would
not work with my magazine front cover and would look unprofessional, which
makes the audience less likely to purchase my magazine.
House style (CM)
Colour scheme
The colours in which I will use will mainly be red and white. With an easily readable font style so
it attracts more readers, since the color red attracts they eye and connotes importance, since
whenever there is something important, such as a stop sign it is red, telling people how
important it is and attracting their eye.
Font Style
I will be using Garamond font for the main text (interviews, stories, articles etc) in this magazine.
This is because Garamond font is great for large bodies of text. Secondly, my Masthead will have
Trajan font as it is very clear and bald font with block capitals (based on Roman square capitals),
this attracts they eye and inclines the reader to read on.
Social media
The magazine will also be available on multiple social media platforms, for example Snapchat,
Twitter and Instagram as these are very popular platforms which would mean that many people
are being exposed to my magazine. This is an example of technological convergence.
House style (FS)
Colour scheme
The colour in which I will use for FS are more blacks and dark colours. With white font. This will make it
really easy to read the text and the black background to most of my pages will make any other colours I
use pop out more, which attracts a wide audience as it will catch their eye.
Font Style
I will be using Helvetica font for the main text (interviews, stories, articles etc) in this magazine. This is
because many professionals use it. This Is because it is very easy to read and looks professional. For my
Masthead, I will be using Futura as it is often seen on large displays where small text is needed. This will
be opening up the text in Helvetica as it will really stand out on the page and attract the reader the read
the entire article.
Social media
Similar to CM, this magazine will also be available on multiple social media platforms, for example
Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram as these are very popular platforms which would mean that many
people are being exposed to my magazine. This is an example of technological convergence.

  • 4. Further development possibility CM In the future, due to the evolution of technology and everyone using online platforms, I would develop a website for my magazine. This would bring in more readers as people will be able to easily order their magazine online or digitally download the magazine for possibly a lower price. I could have interactive parts of of the site, for example games or a music related quiz. This would bring in more readers as it becomes more convenient than having to go to the shop in order to buy the magazine. I could use Wix in order to create the website as they are a good and easy way to make a website.
  • 5. Further development possibility FS An app would be an ideal way to develop the magazines popularity further for the future. This is because we can charge a small price for the app, the app could feature exclusive articles, interviews, faster updates on the music world and other features which would attract an audience. This is good because both people who already read the magazine and those who don’t will download the app as it is for those who are generally into music and want to hear about the most famous artists lives. The only thing is, app development can be expensive so it is possible that the company would be at a loss if the app didn't turn out to be as popular as expected. For example, a company called IBM allows you to develop an app for free.
  • 6. Magazine idea 2 Magazine ideas Target audience Masthead names CM- Critical Music Brand identity Use bold colours to attract the eye of a larger audience Price My price will be around £3 as magazines in the physical form, therefor I may get more sales by making it cheaper than my magazine as it is more affordable and not a ridiculous asking price Colour scheme White Black Yellow Critical Monthly circulation, as artists do not always release albums, similar to my magazine of inspiration Q. Frequency Genre Hiphop Rap 15-50 (Hartley) as I will be covering multiple genres so that it can be appealing to a more of a age range.
  • 7. Magazine idea 3 Magazine ideas Colour scheme Red White Black Target audience Socio-economic needs will be targeted at C1, C2 and D as people in A and B may feel too sophisticated to be reading my magazine, thus they will not buy it Masthead names Brand identity Masthead next to each page, with the page number and web address. This makes the reader more aware of the brand Price Funky- has connotations with music which has a strong base and is catchy. Mix with session, Funky session. FS Session- musician is paid to play with a band or singer making a record in a studio. Also makes reading the magazine feel like a session. My price will be around £4 as Q magazine is around £5 therefor I may get more sales by making it cheaper than my magazine of inspiration
  • 8. Production plan Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Date of publication will be decided, this gives our teams a time frame to complete the work in a given time. Also find an suitable office space where the magazine will be created. The editing team of our magazine will decide upon topics or content which they think should be covered in the upcoming issue of the magazine. Deciding the most relevant story’s and picking a front cover feature By this stage, the teams working on our magazines gather the content, whilst deciding what to put into the magazine. This is a highly important, due to our teams needing to get art work and things which are relevant into the magazine while looking professional By this stage, the teams working on our magazines gather the content, whilst deciding what to put into the magazine. This is a highly important, due to our teams needing to get art work and things which are relevant into the magazine while looking professional A sub-editor or an ‘editor’ goes through the magazine to check for things such as spelling and grammar. Secondly checking the content is all correct and flagging any mistakes which have been made. N/A N/A January 1st 2018 January 2nd 2018 January 3rd 2018 January 4th 2018 January 5th 2018

It is at this stage that advertisements are chosen and placed throughout the magazines which is where it makes a lot of its profits. By this stage, layout staff use programs such as InDesign and Photoshop. It is at this stage that advertisements are chosen and placed throughout the magazines which is where it makes a lot of its profits, which makes it a key stage. At this point, the ‘Editorial Team’ print out a hard copy of the magazine, so they can read through it until the entire of the staff is satisfied that no errors have been made. But, if they have been, corrections are made. This is a vital stage as it ensures that no silly mistakes have been made and the layout is correct and looks good. Only when the magazine has met the satisfactory needs of the ‘editorial team’ will it be released to the general public. After satisfying the ‘Editorial team’ the magazine gets sent to the printers, who literally just print the magazine for you. Here, the magazine is ‘Pre-Pressed’ and the magazine has one final check to ensure that all images and fonts have gone through correctly. The printers print out a couple of copies and send it back to the editorial team. The ‘Editorial team look over the hard copies from the printers again and when they are satisfied with the print they have thousands of copies printed so they are able to meet the demand of their audience who all want the issue. • 11. Target audienceKatz uses and gratification This theory focuses on the consumer rather than focusing on the message by asking ‘what people do with media’ rather than ‘what media does to people’ What people do with media • To be informed or educated • In order to identify with the characters and situation • To be entertained • To enable themselves to socially interact with others • To escape from their daily troubles The consumer is taking an active part in the communication process, at least we think. And we are goal orientated. Hartley There are 7 socially grouped categories when it comes to identifying audience: 1) Self- ambitious or interests of the audience 2) Gender 3) Age group 4) Class- different social classes. For example working and upper 5) Ethnicity 6) Family 7) Nation Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs Socio economic needs According to the Socio-economic needs, my magazine will mainly sell to C1, C2 and D, they are the our main target audience, this is because people in A and B may feel to sophisticated to be reading my magazine so they will not buy it. Where as the people in C1, C2 and D also known as the ‘norm’ will be perfectly comfortable with buying a copy of my magazine and reading it on a train for example
  • 12. Hand drawn drafts conclusion Hand drawn drafts are a good way in which I can get down what I am thinking. I am able to draw what id like my music magazines cover and DPS to look like and then be able to use it as a template to essentially make the front cover. They are also good as it is very easy to make a quick change if need be, for example if you draw it out and don’t like where you placed the puff promotion for example, you can easily rub it out (as long as its been done in pencil) and do it again. I have chosen to go with the CM front cover (the one on the left).
  • 13. Graphic layout conclusion The graphic layout, similar to the hand drawn draft gives an accurate representation of what my front cover and DPS may look like. It is more accurate as its in a computer and not done freehand, so the graphic layout is much easier to do and anyone could do it as its just putting shapes in place. As its been done on a computer, it is more of a template which I am able to use to create my front cover and DPS. This makes it much easier for me to make my front cover and DPS look good as I will know where I am putting everything, so the magazine as a whole will end up looking more professional and organized.
  • 14. Mood board – CM magazine
  • 16. Font styles conclusion I have chosen these two fonts for my two magazine ideas as they are the ones which look the most professional for a magazine and I feel the boldness attracts the audiences eyes so they are more likely to see the magazine and perhaps buy it. I did not pick the other four ideas as I just felt like they would not work with my magazine front cover and would look unprofessional, which makes the audience less likely to purchase my magazine.
  • 17. House style (CM) Colour scheme The colours in which I will use will mainly be red and white. With an easily readable font style so it attracts more readers, since the color red attracts they eye and connotes importance, since whenever there is something important, such as a stop sign it is red, telling people how important it is and attracting their eye. Font Style I will be using Garamond font for the main text (interviews, stories, articles etc) in this magazine. This is because Garamond font is great for large bodies of text. Secondly, my Masthead will have Trajan font as it is very clear and bald font with block capitals (based on Roman square capitals), this attracts they eye and inclines the reader to read on. Social media The magazine will also be available on multiple social media platforms, for example Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram as these are very popular platforms which would mean that many people are being exposed to my magazine. This is an example of technological convergence.
  • 18. House style (FS) Colour scheme The colour in which I will use for FS are more blacks and dark colours. With white font. This will make it really easy to read the text and the black background to most of my pages will make any other colours I use pop out more, which attracts a wide audience as it will catch their eye. Font Style I will be using Helvetica font for the main text (interviews, stories, articles etc) in this magazine. This is because many professionals use it. This Is because it is very easy to read and looks professional. For my Masthead, I will be using Futura as it is often seen on large displays where small text is needed. This will be opening up the text in Helvetica as it will really stand out on the page and attract the reader the read the entire article. Social media Similar to CM, this magazine will also be available on multiple social media platforms, for example Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram as these are very popular platforms which would mean that many people are being exposed to my magazine. This is an example of technological convergence.
