Sociology and Religion
Introduction
Religion plays a major role in American society today. The stance that people take on their religion
can affect the social and political choices that they make. Having a loving God view and
relationship with him also takes place in these decisions being made. Researchers Unnever,
Bartkowski and Cullen explore in their article, God Imagery and Opposition to Abortion and
Capital Punishment: A Partial Test of Religious Support for the Consistent Life Ethic , as to whether
having a close relationship with God will allow people to oppose both capital punishment and
abortion, the consistent life ethic.
Research Question The hypothesis that researchers concluded for the consistent life ethic study
was that, We [the researchers] hypothesize that Americans who have a close relationship with a
loving God will be more likely to oppose both abortion and the death penalty (Unnever,
Bartkowski Cullen , 2010). The particular interest in following this inquiry was because of the fact
that there is first of all, not much research regarding this particular topic on the consistent life ethic
. The importance of finding out this information comes from several different reasons. The first
being that, it is crucial to analyze the attitude on these two topics because it will provide a census
on the quantity of individuals who hold a consistent life ethic, how viewing God as loving impacts
Americans on these moral and political issues. Secondly, both of these topics require a

The Noh Theater
Imagine two mimes wearing masks and colorful robes, the image would not be too terribly far off
from a common Noh play. Originating in Japan during the fourteenth century, the Noh Theatre uses
few actors wearing colorful clothing and depictive masks to perform beautiful plays pertaining to
the afterlife. Due to the dark times it came from and the sad way it was performed, NohTheatre is
one of the most dramatic of its time. O Donnell states the origins of Noh start in the Muromachi
period of Japan, which began in 1338 when Takauji overthrew Go Daigo as shogun, the ruler of
Japan. This period lasted from 1338 1573 and is known for its military conflicts and intrigue.
During the first 50 years of this period the north and south were segregated, until the south agreed
under the rule of a single shogun. In those 50 years multiple earthquakes struck Japan, draught and
famine, and two new diseases swept the nation killing thousands. In 1370 Yoshimitsu had taken the
title of shogun, introducing trade with China and forming new social classes. The prosperity did
not last long as the power struggle for shogun began the Onin War in 1467. After its resolution
smaller battles continued between those who wanted power and money, as many shoguns spent
time for their own good instead of governing their people (O Donnell). Using two types of plays,
sarugaku, which was mimicry, and kagura, religious theatre; it is from these dark times that
Kannami and his son Zeami created Noh theatre

A Research Study On Varicella

VARICELLA

Varicella Varicella is a virus that is caused by Varicella Zoster Virus ( VZV ) or also known as
chickenpox. Back in 1875, Steiner proved that the virus can only spread through body fluids from
other people who have the Varicella. People often did not know the difference between chickenpox
and smallpox until the late 90 s. Every year there are about 3.5 million cases of varicella, 9,000
hospitalization, and estimated about 100 150 deaths. In order to prevent that from happening you
may want to get the vaccine that saves about 100 deaths from happening.
Pathophysiology
Varicella Zoster Virusis a DNA virus and has almost the exact same genes of herpesvirus group
(www.cdc.gov). Which also makes the Varicella be part of the same family and strand of DNA
of VZV. Whenever you get the virus inside your system it will last about 5 10 days if it is not
sever. The symptoms before you know you might have chicken pox are high fever, headache,
tiredness loss of appetite. Other symptoms that are going to show on the skin of the patient are
rashes all over the body, blisters all over your body that have liquid inside them eventually turning
them into scabs. The rash usually shows on the face and chest later on spreading all over the body.
About in a week all blisters should have already been turned to scabs. Some rare complications
with varicella include Rare

Robert Browning s Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came Essay
Robert Browning s Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came
Robert Browning s Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came is a poem about torture. Whether
Roland is actually in Hell or just trapped in the madness of his mind, his own failure and the way
in which he wasted his life will continue to torment him for all eternity. The imagery throughout the
poem displays a completely despairing attitude, and several bitter ironies which he cannot escape
plague him during his quest.
The title Childe implies an untested knight, but Roland is already jaded at the beginning of the
poem. Reliving his failure, Roland has no reason to have any positive thoughts. Everything he sees
is negative and ugly. The grass [grows] as scant as hair in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Though he has been searching for the Dark Tower his entire life, once he finds it, he cannot see it.
The blind horse is representative of how Roland sees himself. He is blind as the fool s heart just
as the horse is blind, and his hatred of the horse is parallel to the hatred he has for himself
because he is a failure. Finally he realizes that the woe of years was not worth the one moment.
The Dark Tower is representative of this empty triumph because no matter how many times he
reaches the Tower he is still inside the den and cannot get out. His success is always his downfall.
The cripple he meets symbolizes the temptation that led him down the wrong path: one more
victim gained thereby. Roland is aware that he has been tricked into his doom but no longer
cares. He simply wants all of his suffering to end and even now he terribly fears failure. The path
to which he has been led summarily represents the idea that he cannot go back. Once he steps in
that direction he can never go back to the safe road. His friends Cuthbert and Giles also made
mistakes that prevented them from returning to their previous lives. While he asserts that
something must be wicked to deserve such pain, he knows from the example of his friends that
one night s disgrace can cause suffering, too. He is trapped in his darkening path and has naught
else to do but to continuously seek the Dark Tower.
Roland is quiet as

The Self Reference Effect On Mother
The extensibility of the self reference effect to mother
Organism used the sense of self to distinguish itself from the immediate external environment
(Neisser, 1988). The idea of extended self suggested that the self was not limited to the body but
also incorporate with self relevant information (Kim Johnson 2012). The self object associations
was developed as far back as early childhood, which showed that ownership was important in
cognition (Cunningham, Turk, Macdonald, Macrae, 2008). Three research have investigated the
association between ownership and cognition. In the study done by Cunningham et al. (2008),
participants took part in a shopping experiment. They were required to move the stimulus items
into a basket owned by self or a basket owned by another participant. The memory for items in both
baskets was assessed. They found that participants were significantly recognized more of the
objects that moved to the self owned basket than to the other owned basket. The pattern of the
improvement in recognition memory was similar to the self reference effect. The self reference
effect suggested that information encoded with reference to self enjoyed a memory advantage
compared with the information related to another person because of the enrichment in the
representations of the self relevant objects, and hence the recognition and the memory was
improved (Cunningham et al., 2008).

B4. Disaster Assessment and Planning Guide
The ages most affected by disasters are disabled, lower income, and the African American
population. The group has a lower attainment of education and lower economic status. African
Americans have a health tendency towards hypertension and cardiac issue that in time of disaster
their medications may become inaccessible or unaffordable and stress will be increased. There is a
link on the emergency preparedness site to register individuals with special needs. (Emergency
Management of Linn County, 2011). The age range with the highest number of mentally disabled
people is 21 64 which is about evenly split between females and males (Linn County, Iowa (IA),

The county was settled around 1838. The major city of Cedar Rapids continues to urban sprawl
with several communities sitting on the boundaries as bedroom communities. There is a mix of
houses in styles. The central area has houses built around pre 1940 and are two story or bungalow
style with detached garages. The yards are small and houses close together. These homes typically
have window air conditioners. As you move out from the center the houses change to ranch style
around 1000 1200 square feet, with larger yards. Moving further out, the style changes to many
different configurations and various square footage. On the outside of the city are larger homes
with larger yards.
The city has 96 park sites throughout and has ten outdoor and one indoor municipal pools for
use. Greene Square Park, in downtown Cedar Rapids, is undergoing a renovation that will be
completed in 2016 (Cedar Rapids, Parks, 2014). Linn County has 29 parks (My County Parks,

Nighttime Fires
Nighttime Fires is a narrative poem written by Regina Barreca. The poet uses powerful imagery
which vividly illustrates the lasting impression made upon a girl whose father seeks satisfaction
through witnessing the destruction caused by nighttime fires. The poem creates a picture in the
reader s mind of the father s character as his grown child still remembers from when she was five
years old. Although it is obvious that the father is a victim of an economy that caused him to be
without a job, his actions are bizarre and inexcusable. The father takes his family to see fires during

Irish Stereotypes Essay examples
The Irish people have been on the receiving end of many racial stereotypes. When they migrated
to America because of lack of jobs, poor living conditions, and many other reasons they were
treated as the lowest member of the social class. They were given jobs that were thought to be too
unsafe for blacks to carryout because the loss of a slave was an out of pocketexpense(Kinsella,
2002). But The Irish were not only discriminated against in America, but in their own country as
well, and England. And in the book written by Frank McCourt, he really focuses on the Irish
stereotypes. But did it affect Frank when he was growing up, and why were the Irish discriminated
so much by the use of these stereotypes? When Irish families... Show more content on

where the risk of injury was high. In Boston, Massachusetts, the center of anti Irish feelings, 295
Irish immigrants were actually sent back to Britain by the Know Nothing Party for being a drain
on the local economy. And in the south, some Irish were called niggers turned inside out , while
black slaves were called smoked Irish (Greely, 1981). This shows that the Irish were not held very
highly in the eyes of Americans. But the British and even their countrymen had their own
prejudices against the Irish. Ireland is very Catholic. It was brought up as a country on Catholicism

Population Growth in South Florida and Salt Water Intrusion
Introduction
Rapid population growth in South Florida has significantly increased the demand for water and the
strain on the fresh groundwater supplies has triggered more saltwater intrusion to the Biscayne
aquifer. Saltwater intrusion has been one the main contaminant that continues to endanger the
Biscayne aquifer. It has occurred as a result of the followings: the over pumping by wells, the
construction of drainage canals, and the lowering of the water table by drought. Ongoing efforts by
South Florida water agencies to protect the aquifer from saltwater intrusion include groundwater
monitoring, water management and conservation.
The Biscayne Aquifer
An aquifer is defined as underground layers of rock saturated with water that can be brought to
the surface through natural springs or by pumping. Named after Biscayne Bay, the Biscayne
aquifer is a coastal, unconfined aquifer because its top portion is the water table and it merges
with the floor of Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Underlies an area of approximately 4000
square miles, the Biscayne aquifer s maps out from the southern tip of the state northwest along a
wavy line to south Palm Beach County. The cross section of the aquifer resembles a wedge and
its gets deeper as it gets closer to the eastern coast. The Biscayne aquifer is the primary source of
freshwater to most of South Florida (Dade, Broward and part of Palm Beach counties).
Furthermore, water from the aquifer is pumped through pipeline to the

The French Revolution was caused by social inequality, economic depression, mistreatment from the
monarchy, and the new idea of the Enlightenment Era.
During the French Revolution, there were three different social categories that separated you
depending on how much money were making, and who you were. The First Estate were the clergy,
or priests, the Second Estate were the nobility, and last the Third Estate were peasants. For example,
there was a picture on the Do Now: The Causes of the French Revolution, that depict the difference
in treatment each social group were receiving. The priests were in charge of the Church the main
government, and they were rich, they had fancy clothing and lived a great life. The nobles were
also rich, if you were a noble back in 1789, you were a police officer, or someone who worked in

The nobility had to pay little taxes, but nothing compare to what peasants had to pay. The
commoners were really the foundation of France. According to the DBQ, document six it states,
The Third Estate is the People and the People is the foundation of the State; it is in fact the State
itself. The commoners lived poorly because of all the taxes they were giving directly to people
who were above them. According to the DBQ, Document one, it states, Lands held by the nobility
are taxed very little. Lands held by commoners are taxed very heavily. So by this information I
believe the peasants were poor because of paying high taxes. They didn t have much food, no
freedom nor money, raggedy clothes, they had to work extremely hard, they had poor living
conditions, and mistreatment of the monarchy, the clergy, and the nobility. The peasants were
beginning to feel frustrated and outraged by the Monarchy s inability to adhere, to the change of

This stems from the greed of wanting more material assets, like I mentioned before. There are a
couple of different social pressures that I felt in this situation. The first is how nobody wants to
be called a nark or a taddle tale , so many people turn to keeping their mouth shut in situations like
this so they don t cause any waves. I felt the pressure to not say anything about the problem and
just keep my mouth shut. I also feel the social pressure of defending my employer and not letting
them get taken advantage of. There is a certain obligation that I have with the company since I m
an employee, and that is to stay honest and trustworthy, and to look out for potential problems
that can conflict with those values of honesty and trustworthiness. If I faced the same dilemma
today, I think I would go straight to management, unless I was especially close to the employee.
Since I m not a manager I should stay out of these kind of problems, and leave it up to them. It
becomes to akward for me to confront a fellow employee, because they often become to defensive
and management gets involved anyway, and then you end up looking bad if the issue is brought up
in front of them. They will want to know how come you didn t tell them and why are you trying to

Tungsten And Titanium Comparison
Tungsten carbide, which is often just called tungsten, and titanium are the most popular materials
for contemporary rings. While some people believe there aren t many differences between the two
metals, there are some definite differences to consider when making your choice between tungsten
and titanium. After reading this list, you ll be able to see that it comes down to the person s lifestyle
when trying to make a choice between tungsten and titanium.
Hardness Levels Between the Two Metals

which most people know. What they might not know is that tungsten comes in second on that list.

Any resizing will result in the ring breaking. With the inexpensive costs of the metals, though, the
rings can easily be replaced if they need to be resized. There are also some manufacturers that
allow customers to return a ring for a different size without charge.
The Colors of Titanium and Tungsten
The metals are available in a variety of colors. They re naturally darkish gray, but they re seen
commonly in black as well. Tungsten has the option of being a white that gives a more classic
white gold or platinum look to the jewelry. Titanium can be created in a variety of colors. It goes
through a heating or oxidation process that can produce blue, purple or black. The color in a
titanium ring doesn t penetrate completely and can be scratched off the ring itself.
Are the Metals Hypoallergenic
When it comes to titanium rings, people who are prone to allergic reactions to metals will not
have a problem. The same can t be said for tungsten rings, which have elements in them that will
cause skin allergies. The allergy is often caused by cobalt, so if a piece of jewelry says that it s
specifically not made with cobalt, the person might not have an issue. It depends on the alloy

The overall food contamination by Bisphenol A is unknown, but the nutrition/ health impact of
this chemical is an important subject to be discussed for all individuals. The main aim of one
study recently analyzed was to assess the reproductive impact of BPA leached from regularly
available polycarbonate plastic containers. The bottles specifically chosen for testing were those
that were used by children. The migration of BPA occurs in polycarbonateplastics (i.e. water bottles
and baby bottles). Toxicology reports show society the importance of evaluating these products
before purchase and consumption as a consumer. For a particular experiment, researchers used
Daphnia Magna, a small flea that cleans and absorbs particles that infect the solution they are
placed in, and bred them in the polycarbonate containers. A control group was created using water
bottles without the infection of these creatures. A GC MS machine to detect the level of BPA
released by each polycarbonate plastic then evaluated the water. An increase in the reproduction of
BPA was detected when the Daphnia Magna were bred inside the container. Although these
organisms effected the leaching of Bisphenol A, the GC MS was able to detect, through the control
group, that BPA is released without DM. An Eco toxicological effect was observed through all of
this testing, and provided evidence to substantiate the fact that Bisphenol A is leached from
polycarbonate plastics. The BPA was further analyzed in the Daphnia

The Need to Measure Transit System Performance
The necessity to measure transit system performance along with its different dimensions has led to
the development of a large number of quantitative performance indicators. Nevertheless, depending
upon the specific indicator assessed, one can reach to different conclusions regarding performance.
Furthermore, though performance and scale economies are closely related issues, they have been
generally examined separately in the transit literature. There have been significant amounts of
research undertaken in order to examine the transit system performance, and in turn of assessing
the performance based on such methods but the two characteristics underline the work. First, due
to heterogeneity in getting different relationships between efficiency and effectiveness, system
performance, existence of scale of economies and various such issues, the conclusion which
have come out of different studies is not same. In other words there are conflicting conclusions.
Even researchers are not using the data which is provided by NTD (National Transit Data base)
and as a result the comparability of findings across researches is questionable. A second problem
arises because researches have been using cross section time series data from largely
heterogeneous systems and have introduced a size related bias in their results (Berechman, 1993).
Tomazinis (1977) specified a set of indicators in order to measure the public transit systems s
performance. His measurement was built on three bases;

The Influence Of The Traditional Family Dinners
1. How has the traditional family meal changed from the 1950s until now?
Subsequent to watching the videos and comparing the differences between families back in the
1950 s and now, it is evident that there are many factors which have influenced the change in the
traditional family meal. Firstly, in the 1950 s there was more of a traditional family structure.
Therefore, the majority of families were nuclear, consisting of a mother, father, and children.
Nowadays, there has been major changes to the structure and definition of families. In today s
generation, the trend of marriage is decreasing, and divorce rates are rising, resulting in various
different family structures. For example, the percentage of single parent families has doubled
since 1961. Due to this, single parents are forced to work in order to support their families,
consequently leaving less time for family dinners. , Back in the 1950 s, family dinners were
formerly a regular daily occurrence that members of the family looked forward to. It was a
priority and meant to be a positive, stress free experience. Furthermore, family dinners have
become less of a priority due to the increased businesses of people s lives and the changes in
priorities in general. In contrast to back then, the idea of family has become more of a second
thought, rather than taking precedence over than everything else. Nowadays, extra curricular
activities play a major role in many families, therefore, leaving less time in evenings

Iron Age
Iron Age 1300 B.C.E.
The iron age is when iron was discovered to be stronger and better than bronze, causing a huge
increase in the production of iron instead of bronze. Iron provided more powerful weapons and
better tools that last longer. Iron was discovered independently in different parts of the world at
different times, giving the civilizations who discovered it first an advantage over ones that didn t
discover or use iron yet. This event and the picture correspond with the key concept 1.2.IIB. The
picture shows early people using iron for multiple tasks. The domination of iron over bronze was an
important technological innovation, it spread quickly, and was used for everything and bronze was

Rhetorical Analysis Of Agility Key In Future Workplaces
Creating a stand out literary piece as a writer is challenging even to brilliant writers. Many
minute details affect literary pieces, but it is imperative that the author utilize rhetorical devices
to make their statements meaningful and persuasive. An article titled Agility Key in Future
Workplaces, with Robot Bosses by Rex W. Huppke employs rhetorical devices effectively to
prove points. The article focuses on future trends in business, and the type of future worker
companies are going to be looking to hire. Huppke explains that the future will involve agile
workers who, instead of working at companies for extended periods of time, will be freelancers that
are hired for short periods of time to complete projects. In the article by Rex Huppke... Show more

The Scientific Method Of Science Essay
The Scientific Method
Introduction
The Scientific Method is defined as a method of procedure that has characterized natural science
since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the
formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. The scientific method is used throughout the
world which makes it a uniform way to systematically conduct experiments. The guidelines in this
method are used so that anyone can repeat the experiment as accurate as possible every time the
experiment is done. All measurements in the scientific world are made in metric measurements so
there is a uniform system of measurement. The Scientific Method has steps that are taken to get
faster, more accurate results. The first step is to make observations over the subject you are
testing. This includes studying previous data over the topic under investigation, and making your
own observations. Step number two is to form a testable hypothesis. Also, by forming a
hypothesis the scientist can plan out how the experiment will be conducted. If the scientist has a
well prepared hypothesis they should be able to make a prediction of what the results of the
experiment will be. After the hypothesis has been formed it is time for the experiment. With the
experiment the hypothesis will be tested, data will be obtained, and the results will be concluded.
The data will also be used to reject, support, or to modify the hypothesis. Step number four is to

Persuasive Essay On School Uniforms
Americans spend large amounts of money every year on clothes, when their children return to
school. Students want name brand clothing that comes with a high price tag, and not all parents can
afford these expensive brands; due to this, it leaves their children to be ridiculed by the students
who parents can. The mocking from peers affects students emotionally. Another issue with students
being able to decide for themselves what to wear is their choice to wear inappropriate attire. There
is much controversy within schools when determining what clothingis considered appropriate or
inappropriate. The argument has been made that by requiring students to wear uniforms it takes
away their individuality. This encourages the students to focus on their outward appearance more
than their inner characteristics. In the past attitudes toward school uniforms has been negative, but
according to West, Tidwell, Bomba, and Elmore, This practice is changing as more U.S. public
school administrators have become interested in the use of school uniforms (pg.92). Students
should be required to wear uniforms to school because it reduces the cost of school clothes, makes
everyone equal, and removes the issue of inappropriate attire.
Every year parents spend large amounts of money on clothes for their children in preparation for
the beginning of a new school year. This price increases with the desire to purchase expensive name
brand clothes to fit in with other students. School uniforms can

contains a brief history of Apple and the position of the organization in the market of computers.
The second part is a calculation of Apple s performance and the reasons for their success. Finally,
a conclusion and recommendation for Apple Inc. According to Poeter (2012), Apple was founded
by Stephen Wozniak, Steven Jobs and Ronald Wayne in California on April 1, 1976. Ronald
Wayne parted ways with Steve Jobsand Steve Wozniak just 8 days after co founding Apple. In the
early years, Apple released products like personal computers and operating systems. These
products were not very prosperous. After a lackluster period, 21 years after the company was
founded, Steve Jobs returned and led Apple Inc. to its resurgence. Since his return, Apple has
grown into a giant in the personal computer marketplace. The innovation of Apple products has led
the group to increase its skill in developing the iPod, the iPhone, iTunes and iWork s products.
Over the years, Apple has been able to create products that are almost impossible to emulate. Apple
has placed the organization in a competitive advantage over its competitors. Apple PC s are still

The Threat Of Large Scale Information Security Breaches
This paper will discuss the possibility of large scale information security breaches, the hardware
and software hacked, the hardware and software needed to perform a real time attack, and the
consequences with performing such an attack. This paper will first define any related terms, then
describe the information securitysystems seen in the WATCH_DOGS video game, then discuss the
various hardware and software involved in an attack in regards to the game and real life, and
finally conclude with whether or not the concepts in WATCH_DOGS are realistic and possible
today.
Introduction In the information age of today, the information security is one of the more prevalent
issues that drive information security professionals and computer technicians to build smarter and
stronger software and hardware. In the virtual world of video games, where the effects of
something as devastating as a security breach have no real world repercussions, information
security can still be a serious topic.
One of a popular video game publisher s new titles that have been released recently has taken the
realistic fear of information security and made it into an interesting adventure, where the main

Sleep Analysis Essay On Sleep
Sleep Analysis As we learned in lecture, sleep is an important component in improving a person
s overall health. Because sleep is vital for cognitive function and available time to spend
sleeping is limited for college students, like myself, it is advantageous to change sleeping
behaviors to maximize the benefits sleep can provide. After tracking my sleeping schedule for a
week, I have noticed some patterns and behavior that may be affecting the quality of sleep I am
getting. Based on my sleep journal, I could improve my sleep by cutting back on the amount of
caffeine I intake and the time spent on electronics before bed to try to reduce the amount of time
needed for me to fall asleep. I tracked my sleep for one week early on in the semester when I was
less busy and able to get more sleep, however the overall patterns in how I felt when waking up
and trouble falling asleep have remained mostly the same. In this particular week, I got an
average of about nine hours of sleep per weeknight. The recommended amount of sleep per night
is between eight to nine hours (Teague 77). I would say I need at least eight full hours of sleep a
night to feel like I am well rested. I did not occur a sleep debt during this week, however I have
experienced weeks were I did accumulate a sleep debt. When this occurs, I usually try to make up
for it by sleeping in on the weekends rather than napping. I have found that taking naps isn t an
effective way for me to reduce my sleep debt because I

Catholic Church Art Analysis
The project I decided to work one was to go to a church different from my own Baptist religious
tradition and decided to attend a Catholic church. I decided to go to a Catholic Church because
both my father and husband are Catholic, and I have not been to Sunday Mass since I was a child
and don t have much recollection of it. I wanted to have that experience now as an adult.
I attended Sunday Mass at Mission San Jose. I wanted to go to a place that was rich with History.
I enjoyed the art displayed inside and outside of Mission San Jose. I was in awe with the beautiful
structures, the Mission/Church was aged beautifully. Throughout the inside walls of Mission San
Jose there was candelabras, and instead of the traditional stained windows you see in a Catholic

The Negative Effects Of Family And Family Homelessness
Family and child homelessness has been a major social problem within the United states since the
1980s (Bassuk). According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, it is a
problem that affected 79,446 family households in January 2010, and over 1.5 million children
between the years of 2005 and 2006. Family and child homelessnessis a genuine issue that although
has increased to 37% of the overall homeless, and is said to have reached an historic high
(Bassuk), it has not been discussed or addressed. Homelessness affects every one in 30 children in

In fact, Ashley De Marcus of the Tennessee Research and Creative Exchange stated that homeless
students opposed to students who are not homeless are twice as likely to repeat a grade.
Homeless high school students also show a similar trend of lowered skills in math and reading.
According to Carolyn Shields and Erica Mohan, only 11.4% proficient in math and 14.6% of
homeless high school students are proficient in reading. This is a 20.8% and 16.3% difference in
students who have homes who are 32.2% proficient in math and 30.9% proficient in reading. As
you can see, the skills level of math and reading for homeless students continues to get worse.
Stronger even confirmed this in his 1992 study of homeless students. Stronger found that homeless
students were scoring a year under their grade level and the deficit had increase up to three years
as they got older. As we can see, this is still a true statement as the skill levels from elementary and
high school has decreased significantly.
The problem of mental disorders is a major one among homeless families. However, the mental
health of homeless children has been less systematically researched, and almost all the available
data is based on research studies of children in homeless shelters in the USA (Bushra 1996). Various
terms, such as behavioral problems/difficulties, psychosocial maladjustment or mental health
disorders, are often used to describe the degree

I then submitted my final draft to iNet. My topic for my research paper was technology s impact on

everyday and I was able to give evidence of my ideas with information I found when researching.
I explained that technology has helped with finding new ways to teach students including those
with disabilities and how it has helped to advance the health and medicinal field. I also explained
some downsides such as the addiction and absence of face to face interaction that come along
with technology. Each of my assignments for this class included revising and editing at the
attempt to hand in the best possible work. I made sure I read over my work before handing it in to
assure that there were little to no grammatical or spelling errors. My biggest struggle in this area

discourse or words as themes in sentences. This paper examines thematization strategies in English
opinion articles written by American and Iranian journalists. To this end, two of the leading
newspapers in the United States and Iran, The New York Times and Tehran Times, have been
chosen. Based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of textual features and marked and
unmarked themes of 12 opinion articles (6 from each newspaper), this study aims to find out how
these two groups of professional writers organize their themes, into marked and unmarked ones and
what effects these organizations have on the audiences. The findings revealed that textual features
were present in both sets of data. The occurrences of marked and unmarked themes were not

results were relatively the same in the original texts and their translations.

A Thousand Acres as Movie is Melodramatic and Bogus Essay
A Thousand Acres as Movie is Melodramatic and Bogus
Perhaps Jane Smiley s Pulitzer Prize winning novel A Thousand Acres was a bit over rated. For
one thing, the book s dark secret seemed utterly implausible. I just didn t believe that the book s
protagonist and narrator, a 37 year old Iowa farm wife named Ginny, could have completely
repressed the fact that her father had sex with her when she was 15 years old, night after night, for
a year. For True Believers in Repressed Memory Syndrome, this might sound like gospel: I found it
melodramatic and bogus. Furthermore, the sensitive unto death narrative voice was dissonant and
grating: Ginny came across as too intelligent and self aware to be as clueless and numb as she ...

Above all, they play it too safe. Perhaps if they had added new material, approached Smiley s story
from different directions, they could have made a film that would have been truer to the spirit, if
not the letter, of her book. Ploddingly literal, A ThousandAcres is basically a star vehicle that relies
on superior acting to redeem it. It does have superior acting, but that s not nearly enough.
The story involves a tyrannical old patriarch, Larry Cook (Jason Robards, whose skills are not
really utilized), who, apparently forgetting the unpleasant fate that befell Lear, decides to give
his farm away to his three daughters Ginny (Jessica Lange), Rose (Michelle Pfeiffer) and
Caroline (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Larry Lear; Ginny Goneril; Rose Regan; Caroline Cordelia.

being hounded to madness and despair by evil children, this patriarch is the evil one, a rigid,
remorseless old man who, we learn, seduced not just Ginny but Rose, too. And he doesn t need to
be driven to madness: He goes pretty much off the deep end, for reasons that are never explained,
right after he gives away his property.

Kings Speech Intertextuality
How does Tom Hooper use intertextuality in his film The King s Speech?
Stage 1 English
SACE ID: 532883T
The King s Speech is a 2010 movie directed by Tom Hooper which explores the plight of Prince
Albert, who has an awful speech impediment, in his reluctant ascension to the throne. Intertextual
references to specific external texts, such as Peter Pan, the Tempest, Swanee River and Hamlet, are
used proficiently throughout the film to examine and emphasise a range of broader themes of duty,
friendship and overcoming challenges.
There are many times Bertie is overwhelmed by his duty to the royal family. A sense of duty can
often become overbearing in people s lives to the point where they wish for a simpler, easier life.

Hooper consciously references Swanee River as Bertie s favourite song in the film; further
enhancing the viewer s understanding of the theme of the temptation to disregard duty. In the
song, the narrator recalls and laments for his childhood life; When I was young, Den many
happy days I squandered, When I was playing wid my brudder, Happy was I; Oh, take me to my
kind old mudder!. The narrator wishes for his childhood life, to never grow up like Peter Pan,
similar to the state of Bertie throughout the film. Bertie s indication of Swanee River as his
favourite song further illustrates the temptation he feels to neglect his duty to the royal family and
follow in his brothers footsteps. Ultimately, the intertwining intertextual references of Peter Pan and
Swanee River exemplify that although to neglect one s duties and obligations, whether it be to the
English monarchy, to your family or yourself, may be tempting, to disregard can be selfish, lazy
and fundamentally detrimental to your own life.
Bertie and Lionel develop a strong but unlikely and unorthodox friendship over the course of their
therapy sessions which is vital to the development of Bertie s emotional wellbeing and his speech
impediment. This theme of the value of friendship and the establishment of unlikely friendship is
implicitly explored through an intertextual reference to the Shakespearian

The Importance of Budget Planning
Introduction
The main responsibility of manager is planning for the future by deciding what should be done and
how it will be achieved. Budget is such a formalized system of planning, forecasting, monitoring

both in public sector and private sector. Budgets fulfill a number of roles in the management of
organizations and different roles may cause some conflicts. Here, we will identify the principal
roles of budgets and have a briefly comment on the compatibility of these differing roles.
Principal Roles
According to Emmanuel et al. (1990), there are five main roles for budgets: a system of
authorization; a means of forecasting and planning; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It always seemed to be the benchmark to compare with the actual performance of the management.
According to this inherent character of budget, it always provides the standard to compare with the
actual performance and get the variance which may help the management to make decision.
Comment on the compatibility of differing roles
Budgets perform different roles in the organization. Some of these roles are compatible with each
other, such as appropriate authorization may increase the accuracy of planning and forecasting. The
low level management could provide more detail and accurate information for the top management
which may help to work out more precise planning and forecasting. Indeed, Clearly defined
responsibilities (Blackwood, 1995) in performance evaluation may help to achieve effective
communication. However, sometime the different role may have some conflicts. For instance, the
over emphasis on the performance evaluation will effect the role of motivation. In a real world, the
evaluation of performance is more complex. Some aspects are easy to measure, such as, sales
volume, productivity, market share, but still intangible factors are difficult to evaluate, for example,
custom service, quality and innovation. Those factors are hard to assess by the fixed budget
system, but they are important to the business success. The over emphasis on performance will stop

Essay The Art of the Dutch Republic
The Art of the Dutch Republic
Dutch art (is) not #8230;a literal record of social experience, but #8230;a document of beliefs. Do
what extent to the following sources support this view with regard to the Dutch Republic in the
seventeenth century? (750 words)
Human expression provides a mechanism by which human behaviour can be studied by the
historian, and in aesthetic expression such as art, the historian can study the beliefs which influence
human behaviour. Within the alleged Golden Age of the Dutch Republiccan be found a diverse
mixture of paintings, and sources 1 3 show three different genres in particular: landscape, portrait
and still life. Provided that the limitations of making generalisations over these paintings are ...

A political belief which can also be represented is the ruined castle, perhaps signifying the fall of
the aristocracy and the emergence of the new egalitarian society through the Revolt. It is important
to note that such interpretations can differ, and that it is not always possible to make distinctions
between belief and experience, nor to gauge an objective opinion on an individual painting.
However, source 1 combines a simple conveyance of economic and social life in the Netherlands
with some of the religious and social beliefs which shaped this life, much of which is supported by
sources 6 and 7. Portraiture in particular was a genre that flourished in the social conditions of the
Dutch Republic, with many portraits being bought and commissioned by members of the middle
class, which is why William Aglionby states in source 5 pictures are very common here #8230;
across all ranks of the population. Source 2 shows this aspect of social experience, supported by
Simon Schama s view in source 4 that at the center of the Dutch world was a burgher, not a
bourgeois. It shows that Dutch social experience was particularly reliant on the middle class, and
that professionals worked collaboratively in groups. The patron saint of guilds Matthias is
conveyed in this painting, showing a religious significance to their work and perhaps this religious
significance is the main reason for the moral values

This article was found on the atlantic.com in the culture of baseball section.
Adam Felder is the associate director of digital analytics also a baseball writer. The article
concentrates on how baseball replay has been useless for some teams. Some people say they
need to fix Instant replay. Basically instant replay needs to make sure the play is more right rather
than wrong. The circumstance we face is replay not being helpful, which is the reason why this
article is prompted because replay has been useless for baseball at this time. The article is

Imber Gil is a baseball journalist, he is also has a sports writer profile and went to UC Irvine.
Some of the important detail in this article is that, replay needed to be reviewed and had to be
used in more pressure situations in the game. Also the face that replay itself was taking too long
to review when make a decision on the call, this is something that will need to review. Also a
new rule being added now mangers have 2 challenges instead of one during the previously
season they only could challenge one time. The circumstance that prompted this article is the
instant replay rule needing to evaluated and needing to be quicker on decision with the call on
the field. The purpose this article is trying to inform is, rules needing to be reviewed and
changed. Also technology is helping baseball get the call right and making the game exciting. The
author is trying to target baseball fans that want to see changes to the game, also wanting the
replay to be reviewed and challenges to be made quicker on the call on the field. As a matter of
strategy, managers would be wise to challenge or request an otherwise benign review when on
defense, during stressful

Culture Clash Essay
Jaclyn Dignan
Culture Clash Paper
2/1/07
The one thing that humans have a hard time understanding is that animals do not think like
humans at all. Their mentality is living off of food, shelter, and sex. Culture Clash really helped
me realize just how confusing an animal s behavior really is. It s not impossible to get to an
animal s level of behavior using Pavlov s operant and classical conditioning, which is fascinating. A
few of the more confusing things that I have come across are how to actually understand how the
animal, in certain situations, is feeling. It s hard to have an animal cooperate with what you re
trying to achieve when you yourself cannot understand the behavior that that animal is showing.

The dogs are always kept outside and bark and bark and bark. From the looks of it they are not very
loved which is a very upsetting thing to see. Watching movies have also given me a bad
perception on certain breeds of dogs. The Sandlot is one movie that has always made me afraid
to be around big dogs. To this day being around big dogs has always made me nervous. The thing
that s so funny is that if a Chihuahua were bigger than it was, it could also be a very vicious dog.
The size doesn t necessarily matter. If the dog is vicious then it s going to be vicious no matter
what size. Sandlot gave me the impression that this huge dog was a man eater and killed kids.
Having that type of entertainment in a movie is very scary to a little kid and very deceiving. I
feel that it all depends on how the animal is brought up and taught. It doesn t matter what breed it
is. Some breeds are thought to be dangerous such as pit bulls and hoteliers when really the only
thing is the way they are trained. One day I was watching Rob Big on MTV and they had just
gotten an American Bulldog puppy. The puppy had been doing the outside duties inside the house
and Rob and Big were trying to figure out why he was doing this. Well they ended calling up a pet
psychologist who they thought could get inside Meaty s head and help him to stop going to the
bathroom in the house. At first I thought the pet psychologist would just help train the dog, but it
ended up turning out that she

Consumer Research Stats Case Analysis
Consumer Research, Inc. is investigating whether there is any correlation between specific
characteristics of credit card users and the amount these users charge on credit cards. Their
objective is to determine if these characteristics can accurately predict the annual dollar amount
charged by credit card users. Data was collected from a sample of 50 credit card consumers
presenting information on the annual income (referred as Income), size of household (referred as
Household), and the annual credit card charges (referred as Charges) for these consumers. A
statistical analysis; including a descriptive, simple regression, and multiple regression tests, of this
data was performed and the findings are presented below. Due to the... Show more content on

The model indicates that for each additional person added to the household, Charges are expected to
increase by $404.13, when the Annual Income is held constant. This model produces the following
statistical evidence:
Model Summary of using Household to predict Charges
RRВІAdjusted RВІStd Error of Estimate
.753.5670.558620.793
Paying particular attention to the RВІ values (Table 2), this prediction equation can account for
about 55.8% of the variations present within the data. This equation appears to have a stronger fit
for predicting credit card charges then using Income.
To construct a better prediction equation that produces a stronger linear relationship with the least
amount of unexplained variance, a multiple regression analysis was conducted. Results of this
analysis clearly indicate that using both Income and Household together to predict credit card
charges is a better fit then just one of these characteristics. A multiple regression analysis produces
a model prediction equation of Annual Charges = 33.13(Income) + 356.30(Household) + 1304.91.
To determine how well this equation model fits, a multiple linear regression model containing the
two characteristics variables was fitted to the data. The model assumptions were checked using a
full residual analysis. The residual plots are shown in Exhibit 2.
The two plots indicate clear relationships between the Amount Charged

Lgbt History And The Modern Era
There are many topics prevalent shown throughout history. History books in today s society
highlight the majority of groups of people and historical events. This essay will prove that there is
a problematic issue where LGBT lives and existences are being erased throughout history and the
modern era. Throughout, it will be explained how these groups of people are being
underrepresented within history, major wars, and the modern era.
History covers a very broad spectrum of time, with recorded history going as far back as five
thousand years. Yet, within this period of five thousand years, history books implemented in school
systems rarely give detail to LGBT people (Carter, It s Time to Write LGBT History into the
Textbooks ). For example, within America, homosexualityhas been shown throughout Native
American tribes long before Europeans even stepped foot onto the land. While traditional
European beliefs define a person s sexual identity male or female based on biological
determination, Native American s have a vast variety of how sexuality is viewed. Native
Americans believed the Creator created three different genders; males, females and two spirits,
following the Plato model of roles. Gender roles and gender identity mirrored one another, each
containing their own magical attributes according to lore. While gender identity defined Native
American gender roles, their expectations for the two spirits differed. Native American ideology
welcomed a third gender and openly

Emerson s View Of Nature
Recaptured innocence is another aspect of man s relationship with nature, which coincides with
truth. Emerson s The Method of Nature , states: Shall we not quit our companions, and betake. . .
.some unvisited recess in Moosehead Lake, to bewail our innocency and recover it, and with it
the power to communicate again with these sharers of a more sacred idea. He continues: Let us
worship the mighty and transcendent Soul. . . . Truth is always holy, holiness is wise. . . .
Tenderly, tenderly they woo and court us from every object in nature, from every fact in life, from
every thought in the mind. The one condition coupled to the gift of truth is its use. . . .Emanuel

This fact, as far as it symbolizes the moral fact of the Unattainable, the flying Perfect, around
which the hands of man can never meet. . . . To Emerson, the fluidness of his surroundings
meant Nature is a continuous expression of the spirit. Thoreau continues the same idea in The
Pond in Winter : After a still winter night I awoke with the impression that some question had
been put to me, which I had been endeavoring in vain to answer in my sleep, as
what, how, when, where? But there was dawning Nature, in whom all creatures live, looking in at
my broad windows with serene and satisfied face, and no question on her lips. I awoke to an
answered question to nature and daylight. The answer was there is no answer just open your eyes
to see what Nature reveals to you day after day! He continues this idea of not really wanting to
know all of nature s laws: Our notions of law and harmony are commonly confined to those
instances we detect; but the harmony results from a far greater number of seemingly conflicting,
but really concurring, laws, which we have not detected, is still more

ABSTRACT
The rhizome of Picrorhiza kurroa Royle ex Benth, is widely used for the treatment of various
inflammatory conditions. In the present study, we have evaluated the anti inflammatory and anti
granuloma activity of Picrorhiza kurroa rhizome extract (PKRE) against carrageenan induced paw

In chronic inflammatory and granulomatous conditions, macrophage dysfunction plays a central
role in progression and maintenance of disease like in case of rheumatoid arthritis where persistent
antigen stimulation leads to accumulation of macrophages in the inflamed synovial membrane and
at the cartilage pannus junction [2]. This is evident by elevated levels of macrophage derived pro
inflammatory cytokines such as TNF О±, IL 1ОІ, IL 6 and inflammatory mediators such as COX 2
which has a key role in the maintenance of inflammation by regulating the levels of prostaglandins
[3, 4].
Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and glucocorticoids supplemented with biologics
are the conventional drug options for the treatment of chronic inflammation [5]. In contrast to their
efficiency in improving disease conditions, chronic and long term use of these drugs may lead to
serious adverse effects such as gastric ulceration, bleeding and emergence of opportunistic infection
due to immunosupression. In US, more than 16,000 deaths per year have been reported due to
gastric ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding associated with prolonged use of NSAIDs in arthritic
patients [6]. Due to high cost and adverse events associated with conventional treatment, more than
70% of patients with rheumatoid arthritis rely on complementary and alternative medicine with or
without conventional medicine [7].

Grief Is A Natural Human Process Essay
Globally grief effects every individual, multiple times across the lifespan. Grief is described as a
person s individual reaction to loss, including all domains of wellbeing e.g. physical, emotional,
cognitive, behavioural, social and spiritual (Greenstreet, 2004). Paramedic practises are frequently
confronted by death, and associated grieving families. For this reason, it is fundamental that current
and future emergency medical professionals understand that griefis a natural human process, which
is unique and different for every individual (Buglass, 2010). In order to gain a perceptive
understanding of grief and the implications it may have in the paramedic practise, this essay will
cover four important aspects. The essay will coverbereavement theories, cultural sensitive
strategies, effects of grief and stressonparamedics andresources available to help professional
maintain good wellbeing. This will in turn produce an overview of the topic of grief in a
paramedic practise perspective.
Many theorists have proposed models which depict the processof grieving in different ways.
Elisabeth Kubler Ross is a theorist who proposed a stage based theory on coping with grief.
According to Kubler Ross theory (1969), it describes the grievance process taking place in the
form of five stages, including: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Kubler Ross
theory (1969) depicts coping with grief as a linear pathway, where an individual must pass each
one to overcome grief

Life Is So Good by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman Essay
Life Is So Good by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman
Good Afternoon Ms. McCafferty, I made this appointment because I passionately believe that
the book, Life is so good written by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman should be on the Carey
booklist for Year 9 students. Life is so good is a magnificent part biography, part autobiography of a
103 year old black man named George Dawson who went to school to learn to read and write when
he was 98 years old.
George Dawson may be 103 but he can still walk without a cane and can remember his life with an
uncanny ability. That is why there is so much detail in this book. Life is so good tells of his hard
life from when he was only 6 years old and living on a farm in the outer region of a ... Show more

This is an example of how the black men in America were treated back then.
As the story progresses the reader is told that George has to work the fields because he s the oldest,
while his younger brothers and sisters get to go to school and learn to read and write. George lives
a life of working very hard and getting paid very little but his motto is:
Life is so good. I do believe it s getting better.
When George turns 18 he feels as though he has explore the land, so he simply packs up and
leaves, without a clue of where he s heading. After a train ride or two he ends up in Mexico where
he is all confused because whites and blacks are eating and talking together, and catching the same
buses and trains together as well. After living and dealing with segregation all his life this is
something completely different for him and he struggles to adjust to the new style of life.
As the story nears the end the past catches up with the present and it goes on to describe George
s dedicated student lifestyle. He writes: Every morning I get up and I wonder what I might learn
that day. You just never know. George also reflects on the attitude of people these days: People
worry too much. Life is good, just the way it is.
In summary I think this book would be a great book to go on the Carey booklist because it has
such unusual but effective style of writing which many Year 9 s would benefit from the exposure
to. It also gives today s

  • 2. Sociology and Religion Introduction Religion plays a major role in American society today. The stance that people take on their religion can affect the social and political choices that they make. Having a loving God view and relationship with him also takes place in these decisions being made. Researchers Unnever, Bartkowski and Cullen explore in their article, God Imagery and Opposition to Abortion and Capital Punishment: A Partial Test of Religious Support for the Consistent Life Ethic , as to whether having a close relationship with God will allow people to oppose both capital punishment and abortion, the consistent life ethic. Research Question The hypothesis that researchers concluded for the consistent life ethic study was that, We [the researchers] hypothesize that Americans who have a close relationship with a loving God will be more likely to oppose both abortion and the death penalty (Unnever, Bartkowski Cullen , 2010). The particular interest in following this inquiry was because of the fact that there is first of all, not much research regarding this particular topic on the consistent life ethic . The importance of finding out this information comes from several different reasons. The first being that, it is crucial to analyze the attitude on these two topics because it will provide a census on the quantity of individuals who hold a consistent life ethic, how viewing God as loving impacts Americans on these moral and political issues. Secondly, both of these topics require a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Noh Theater Imagine two mimes wearing masks and colorful robes, the image would not be too terribly far off from a common Noh play. Originating in Japan during the fourteenth century, the Noh Theatre uses few actors wearing colorful clothing and depictive masks to perform beautiful plays pertaining to the afterlife. Due to the dark times it came from and the sad way it was performed, NohTheatre is one of the most dramatic of its time. O Donnell states the origins of Noh start in the Muromachi period of Japan, which began in 1338 when Takauji overthrew Go Daigo as shogun, the ruler of Japan. This period lasted from 1338 1573 and is known for its military conflicts and intrigue. During the first 50 years of this period the north and south were segregated, until the south agreed under the rule of a single shogun. In those 50 years multiple earthquakes struck Japan, draught and famine, and two new diseases swept the nation killing thousands. In 1370 Yoshimitsu had taken the title of shogun, introducing trade with China and forming new social classes. The prosperity did not last long as the power struggle for shogun began the Onin War in 1467. After its resolution smaller battles continued between those who wanted power and money, as many shoguns spent time for their own good instead of governing their people (O Donnell). Using two types of plays, sarugaku, which was mimicry, and kagura, religious theatre; it is from these dark times that Kannami and his son Zeami created Noh theatre ... • 4. A Research Study On Varicella RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES VARICELLA Hernan Ramirez Health Science Technology 3/4/2016 Varicella Varicella is a virus that is caused by Varicella Zoster Virus ( VZV ) or also known as chickenpox. Back in 1875, Steiner proved that the virus can only spread through body fluids from other people who have the Varicella. People often did not know the difference between chickenpox and smallpox until the late 90 s. Every year there are about 3.5 million cases of varicella, 9,000 hospitalization, and estimated about 100 150 deaths. In order to prevent that from happening you may want to get the vaccine that saves about 100 deaths from happening. Pathophysiology Varicella Zoster Virusis a DNA virus and has almost the exact same genes of herpesvirus group (www.cdc.gov). Which also makes the Varicella be part of the same family and strand of DNA of VZV. Whenever you get the virus inside your system it will last about 5 10 days if it is not sever. The symptoms before you know you might have chicken pox are high fever, headache, tiredness loss of appetite. Other symptoms that are going to show on the skin of the patient are rashes all over the body, blisters all over your body that have liquid inside them eventually turning them into scabs. The rash usually shows on the face and chest later on spreading all over the body. About in a week all blisters should have already been turned to scabs. • 5. Robert Browning s Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came Essay Robert Browning s Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came Robert Browning s Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came is a poem about torture. Whether Roland is actually in Hell or just trapped in the madness of his mind, his own failure and the way in which he wasted his life will continue to torment him for all eternity. The imagery throughout the poem displays a completely despairing attitude, and several bitter ironies which he cannot escape plague him during his quest. The title Childe implies an untested knight, but Roland is already jaded at the beginning of the poem. Reliving his failure, Roland has no reason to have any positive thoughts. Everything he sees is negative and ugly. The grass [grows] as scant as hair in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though he has been searching for the Dark Tower his entire life, once he finds it, he cannot see it. The blind horse is representative of how Roland sees himself. He is blind as the fool s heart just as the horse is blind, and his hatred of the horse is parallel to the hatred he has for himself because he is a failure. Finally he realizes that the woe of years was not worth the one moment. The Dark Tower is representative of this empty triumph because no matter how many times he reaches the Tower he is still inside the den and cannot get out. His success is always his downfall. The cripple he meets symbolizes the temptation that led him down the wrong path: one more victim gained thereby. Roland is aware that he has been tricked into his doom but no longer cares. He simply wants all of his suffering to end and even now he terribly fears failure. The path to which he has been led summarily represents the idea that he cannot go back. Once he steps in that direction he can never go back to the safe road. His friends Cuthbert and Giles also made mistakes that prevented them from returning to their previous lives. While he asserts that something must be wicked to deserve such pain, he knows from the example of his friends that one night s disgrace can cause suffering, too. He is trapped in his darkening path and has naught else to do but to continuously seek the Dark Tower. Roland is quiet as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Self Reference Effect On Mother The extensibility of the self reference effect to mother Organism used the sense of self to distinguish itself from the immediate external environment (Neisser, 1988). The idea of extended self suggested that the self was not limited to the body but also incorporate with self relevant information (Kim Johnson 2012). The self object associations was developed as far back as early childhood, which showed that ownership was important in cognition (Cunningham, Turk, Macdonald, Macrae, 2008). Three research have investigated the association between ownership and cognition. In the study done by Cunningham et al. (2008), participants took part in a shopping experiment. They were required to move the stimulus items into a basket owned by self or a basket owned by another participant. The memory for items in both baskets was assessed. They found that participants were significantly recognized more of the objects that moved to the self owned basket than to the other owned basket. The pattern of the improvement in recognition memory was similar to the self reference effect. The self reference effect suggested that information encoded with reference to self enjoyed a memory advantage compared with the information related to another person because of the enrichment in the representations of the self relevant objects, and hence the recognition and the memory was improved (Cunningham et al., 2008). The poem creates a picture in the reader s mind of the father s character as his grown child still remembers from when she was five years old. In Boston, Massachusetts, the center of anti Irish feelings, 295 Irish immigrants were actually sent back to Britain by the Know Nothing Party for being a drain on the local economy. And in the south, some Irish were called niggers turned inside out , while black slaves were called smoked Irish (Greely, 1981). • 10. Population Growth in South Florida and Salt Water Intrusion Introduction Rapid population growth in South Florida has significantly increased the demand for water and the strain on the fresh groundwater supplies has triggered more saltwater intrusion to the Biscayne aquifer. Saltwater intrusion has been one the main contaminant that continues to endanger the Biscayne aquifer. It has occurred as a result of the followings: the over pumping by wells, the construction of drainage canals, and the lowering of the water table by drought. Ongoing efforts by South Florida water agencies to protect the aquifer from saltwater intrusion include groundwater monitoring, water management and conservation. The Biscayne Aquifer An aquifer is defined as underground layers of rock saturated with water that can be brought to the surface through natural springs or by pumping. Named after Biscayne Bay, the Biscayne aquifer is a coastal, unconfined aquifer because its top portion is the water table and it merges with the floor of Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Underlies an area of approximately 4000 square miles, the Biscayne aquifer s maps out from the southern tip of the state northwest along a wavy line to south Palm Beach County. The cross section of the aquifer resembles a wedge and its gets deeper as it gets closer to the eastern coast. During the French Revolution, there were three different social categories that separated you depending on how much money were making, and who you were. The First Estate were the clergy, or priests, the Second Estate were the nobility, and last the Third Estate were peasants. For example, there was a picture on the Do Now: The Causes of the French Revolution, that depict the difference in treatment each social group were receiving. The priests were in charge of the Church the main government, and they were rich, they had fancy clothing and lived a great life. I felt the pressure to not say anything about the problem and just keep my mouth shut. I also feel the social pressure of defending my employer and not letting them get taken advantage of. There is a certain obligation that I have with the company since I m an employee, and that is to stay honest and trustworthy, and to look out for potential problems that can conflict with those values of honesty and trustworthiness. If I faced the same dilemma today, I think I would go straight to management, unless I was especially close to the employee. Since I m not a manager I should stay out of these kind of problems, and leave it up to them. It becomes to akward for me to confront a fellow employee, because they often become to defensive and management gets involved anyway, and then you end up looking bad if the issue is brought up in front of them. • 14. The Food Contamination By Bisphenol A Is Unknown, But The... The overall food contamination by Bisphenol A is unknown, but the nutrition/ health impact of this chemical is an important subject to be discussed for all individuals. The main aim of one study recently analyzed was to assess the reproductive impact of BPA leached from regularly available polycarbonate plastic containers. The bottles specifically chosen for testing were those that were used by children. The migration of BPA occurs in polycarbonateplastics (i.e. water bottles and baby bottles). Toxicology reports show society the importance of evaluating these products before purchase and consumption as a consumer. For a particular experiment, researchers used Daphnia Magna, a small flea that cleans and absorbs particles that infect the solution they are placed in, and bred them in the polycarbonate containers. A control group was created using water bottles without the infection of these creatures. A GC MS machine to detect the level of BPA released by each polycarbonate plastic then evaluated the water. An increase in the reproduction of BPA was detected when the Daphnia Magna were bred inside the container. Although these organisms effected the leaching of Bisphenol A, the GC MS was able to detect, through the control group, that BPA is released without DM. An Eco toxicological effect was observed through all of this testing, and provided evidence to substantiate the fact that Bisphenol A is leached from polycarbonate plastics. The BPA was further analyzed in the Daphnia ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Need to Measure Transit System Performance The necessity to measure transit system performance along with its different dimensions has led to the development of a large number of quantitative performance indicators. Nevertheless, depending upon the specific indicator assessed, one can reach to different conclusions regarding performance. Furthermore, though performance and scale economies are closely related issues, they have been generally examined separately in the transit literature. There have been significant amounts of research undertaken in order to examine the transit system performance, and in turn of assessing the performance based on such methods but the two characteristics underline the work. First, due to heterogeneity in getting different relationships between efficiency and effectiveness, system performance, existence of scale of economies and various such issues, the conclusion which have come out of different studies is not same. In other words there are conflicting conclusions. Even researchers are not using the data which is provided by NTD (National Transit Data base) and as a result the comparability of findings across researches is questionable. A second problem arises because researches have been using cross section time series data from largely heterogeneous systems and have introduced a size related bias in their results (Berechman, 1993). Firstly, in the 1950 s there was more of a traditional family structure. Therefore, the majority of families were nuclear, consisting of a mother, father, and children. Nowadays, there has been major changes to the structure and definition of families. In today s generation, the trend of marriage is decreasing, and divorce rates are rising, resulting in various different family structures. For example, the percentage of single parent families has doubled since 1961. Due to this, single parents are forced to work in order to support their families, consequently leaving less time for family dinners. , Back in the 1950 s, family dinners were formerly a regular daily occurrence that members of the family looked forward to. It was a priority and meant to be a positive, stress free experience. Furthermore, family dinners have become less of a priority due to the increased businesses of people s lives and the changes in priorities in general. In contrast to back then, the idea of family has become more of a second thought, rather than taking precedence over than everything else. Nowadays, extra curricular activities play a major role in many families, therefore, leaving less time in evenings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The dome of the rock was completed in a decade in which Muslims lost control of Hijaz and also Mecca and Medina, and survived serious challenges from religious opposition groups. The location was previously a temple of Solomon and it is also believed that Prophet Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son Isaac on this location. This is why it is so important for Muslims, Christians and Jews. The Scientific Method Of Science Essay The Scientific Method Introduction The Scientific Method is defined as a method of procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. The scientific method is used throughout the world which makes it a uniform way to systematically conduct experiments. The guidelines in this method are used so that anyone can repeat the experiment as accurate as possible every time the experiment is done. All measurements in the scientific world are made in metric measurements so there is a uniform system of measurement. The Scientific Method has steps that are taken to get faster, more accurate results. The first step is to make observations over the subject you are testing. This includes studying previous data over the topic under investigation, and making your own observations. Step number two is to form a testable hypothesis. Also, by forming a hypothesis the scientist can plan out how the experiment will be conducted. If the scientist has a well prepared hypothesis they should be able to make a prediction of what the results of the experiment will be. After the hypothesis has been formed it is time for the experiment. With the experiment the hypothesis will be tested, data will be obtained, and the results will be concluded. The data will also be used to reject, support, or to modify the hypothesis. Step number four is to analyze ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Students want name brand clothing that comes with a high price tag, and not all parents can afford these expensive brands; due to this, it leaves their children to be ridiculed by the students who parents can. The mocking from peers affects students emotionally. Another issue with students being able to decide for themselves what to wear is their choice to wear inappropriate attire. There is much controversy within schools when determining what clothingis considered appropriate or inappropriate. The argument has been made that by requiring students to wear uniforms it takes away their individuality. This encourages the students to focus on their outward appearance more than their inner characteristics. In the past attitudes toward school uniforms has been negative, but according to West, Tidwell, Bomba, and Elmore, This practice is changing as more U.S. public school administrators have become interested in the use of school uniforms (pg.92). After tracking my sleeping schedule for a week, I have noticed some patterns and behavior that may be affecting the quality of sleep I am getting. Based on my sleep journal, I could improve my sleep by cutting back on the amount of caffeine I intake and the time spent on electronics before bed to try to reduce the amount of time needed for me to fall asleep. I tracked my sleep for one week early on in the semester when I was less busy and able to get more sleep, however the overall patterns in how I felt when waking up and trouble falling asleep have remained mostly the same. In this particular week, I got an average of about nine hours of sleep per weeknight. The recommended amount of sleep per night is between eight to nine hours (Teague 77). I would say I need at least eight full hours of sleep a night to feel like I am well rested. I did not occur a sleep debt during this week, however I have experienced weeks were I did accumulate a sleep debt. • 40. Kings Speech Intertextuality How does Tom Hooper use intertextuality in his film The King s Speech? Stage 1 English SACE ID: 532883T The King s Speech is a 2010 movie directed by Tom Hooper which explores the plight of Prince Albert, who has an awful speech impediment, in his reluctant ascension to the throne. Intertextual references to specific external texts, such as Peter Pan, the Tempest, Swanee River and Hamlet, are used proficiently throughout the film to examine and emphasise a range of broader themes of duty, friendship and overcoming challenges. There are many times Bertie is overwhelmed by his duty to the royal family. A sense of duty can often become overbearing in people s lives to the point where they wish for a simpler, easier life. The story of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hooper consciously references Swanee River as Bertie s favourite song in the film; further enhancing the viewer s understanding of the theme of the temptation to disregard duty. In the song, the narrator recalls and laments for his childhood life; When I was young, Den many happy days I squandered, When I was playing wid my brudder, Happy was I; Oh, take me to my kind old mudder!. The narrator wishes for his childhood life, to never grow up like Peter Pan, similar to the state of Bertie throughout the film. Bertie s indication of Swanee River as his favourite song further illustrates the temptation he feels to neglect his duty to the royal family and follow in his brothers footsteps. Ultimately, the intertwining intertextual references of Peter Pan and Swanee River exemplify that although to neglect one s duties and obligations, whether it be to the English monarchy, to your family or yourself, may be tempting, to disregard can be selfish, lazy and fundamentally detrimental to your own life. Bertie and Lionel develop a strong but unlikely and unorthodox friendship over the course of their therapy sessions which is vital to the development of Bertie s emotional wellbeing and his speech impediment. This theme of the value of friendship and the establishment of unlikely friendship is implicitly explored through an intertextual reference to the Shakespearian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Budget is such a formalized system of planning, forecasting, monitoring and controlling the use of resources which help the managers to achieve organization s objectives both in public sector and private sector. Budgets fulfill a number of roles in the management of organizations and different roles may cause some conflicts. Some of these roles are compatible with each other, such as appropriate authorization may increase the accuracy of planning and forecasting. The low level management could provide more detail and accurate information for the top management which may help to work out more precise planning and forecasting. Indeed, Clearly defined responsibilities (Blackwood, 1995) in performance evaluation may help to achieve effective communication. However, sometime the different role may have some conflicts. For instance, the over emphasis on the performance evaluation will effect the role of motivation. In a real world, the evaluation of performance is more complex. Some aspects are easy to measure, such as, sales volume, productivity, market share, but still intangible factors are difficult to evaluate, for example, custom service, quality and innovation. Those factors are hard to assess by the fixed budget system, but they are important to the business success. The over emphasis on performance will stop the management to ... However, source 1 combines a simple conveyance of economic and social life in the Netherlands with some of the religious and social beliefs which shaped this life, much of which is supported by sources 6 and 7. Portraiture in particular was a genre that flourished in the social conditions of the Dutch Republic, with many portraits being bought and commissioned by members of the middle class, which is why William Aglionby states in source 5 pictures are very common here #8230; across all ranks of the population. To this day being around big dogs has always made me nervous. The thing that s so funny is that if a Chihuahua were bigger than it was, it could also be a very vicious dog. The size doesn t necessarily matter. If the dog is vicious then it s going to be vicious no matter what size. Sandlot gave me the impression that this huge dog was a man eater and killed kids. In chronic inflammatory and granulomatous conditions, macrophage dysfunction plays a central role in progression and maintenance of disease like in case of rheumatoid arthritis where persistent antigen stimulation leads to accumulation of macrophages in the inflamed synovial membrane and at the cartilage pannus junction [2]. This is evident by elevated levels of macrophage derived pro inflammatory cytokines such as TNF О±, IL 1ОІ, IL 6 and inflammatory mediators such as COX 2 which has a key role in the maintenance of inflammation by regulating the levels of prostaglandins [3, 4]. Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and glucocorticoids supplemented with biologics are the conventional drug options for the treatment of chronic inflammation [5]. In contrast to their efficiency in improving disease conditions, chronic and long term use of these drugs may lead to serious adverse effects such as gastric ulceration, bleeding and emergence of opportunistic infection due to immunosupression. In US, more than 16,000 deaths per year have been reported due to gastric ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding associated with prolonged use of NSAIDs in arthritic patients [6]. Paramedic practises are frequently confronted by death, and associated grieving families. For this reason, it is fundamental that current and future emergency medical professionals understand that griefis a natural human process, which is unique and different for every individual (Buglass, 2010). According to Kubler Ross theory (1969), it describes the grievance process taking place in the form of five stages, including: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.
