Opera Today Research Paper
Opera is just as popular as it was years ago. In the past groups of individuals used to meet up in opera
houses to watch the host perform a play or a musical. As of now most opera is played through music
cd s and DVD s, which is far less cheaper than purchasing a ticket to see a live show. Opera today still
takes place on stage and in theaters. The high cost of production can sometimes make it not possible to
have a live show which is very common in today s time. Majority of the opera songs that are played
today come from jazz, folk , and rock musicals.
Modern opera now uses electrical equipment to improve hearing and visual aid. The most common
form of opera in the 20th and 21th century is rock musicals. This type of musical is just like

Free Market Economy Essay
A free market is a type of market that the government is not involved in. Since the government does
not care about what happens, the free market is also called hands off or let it be economics . The
government is limited to protect the citizens from the danger and that is the major goal for the
government. In the free market economy, there are three components of the free market economy:
competition, active but limited government, and the self interest. Competition is one of the main
components of the free market economy. Competition means that the companies compete with one
another to make more benefits to themselves. According to the concept of the free market economy,
the competition means a good thing because it is a basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government does not necessarily need to intervene how the marker goes. Therefore, the
competition is a significant factor of the free marker economy.Active but limited government is
another main part of the free market economy. This means that the government undertakes a
significant, active role in the market, but at the same time the government s role is ver limited because
all the investments and decisions in the economy are controlled by the market than by the government.
An invisible hand will control the market. Limited government is a type of government in which there
is a minimum intervention in personal properties. Overall, the government tries to keep the economy
in a law and let it free by limiting itself. Hence, the limited government is an essential factor of the
free market economy.Last, self interest is a significant part of the free market economy. Self interest
refers to one s desire to buy something. The market will be generally controlled by people s interest;
the companies will compete with one another to fit the best taste. This is because the people s interest
will be the main trend in the market and it will control what should be made in the market.
Consequently, the market will be self regulated according to the theory of a free market. Therefore, the
self interest is another significant factor of the free market economy. Therefore, the competition, the

Anne Moody Research Paper
Anne Moody s Life and the Struggle for Civil Rights Why do we learn history? It is not merely
learning events of the past but an understanding how we have reached the present and what it took to
get there. Knowledge of the past also helps us predict the future through examples of seen and
unforeseen consequences following action. More importantly, it gives a reason as to why today, the
United States government puts an emphasis on equality more than ever, or do they? The Civil Right
Movement takes place from the 1950s to the 1960s with an unwavering amount of economic, political,
and social repression against African Americans. This era served as a turning point in American
society for securing the legal rights of African Americans in America. The autobiography Coming of

Moody s life and experiences provide another perspective to the Civil Rights Movement, one that is
not of a man, white southerner, or the most commonly seen leader of this movement, Martin Luther
King Jr. It is crucial to hear Moody s story to put ourselves in a time and place we are unfamiliar with
to understand the struggle for civil rights in the United States. Coming of Age in Mississippi is worth
reading because it provides readers a different perspective on the individual s discovery of
segregation, experiences from living in a tumultuous time in history, insight on what it means to stand
up for change, and a segway to relate Moody s experiences to our own today. There comes a time in
all young children s life when we learn to be self aware, meaning we realize who we are and what
makes us different from the people around us. In Anne Moody s life, this became apparent to her
during childhood when she realizes that she is in a world where she and the kids she plays with are
treated differently. She comes to find this while noticing the children she played with next door, Katie
and Bill, had bikes, a playhouse and even larger house than she could imagine

Physics of a Kayak (Qayaq) Essay
Qayaqs, now known as kyaks, were used by the Yup ik Eskimos of Southwest Alaska. The Qayaq is a
symbol of the Yup ik culture. It symbolizes the significance of subsistence and using the surrounding
resources to survive. This vessel also represents the intelligence and ingenuity of the Yup ik people
developing and designing a water craft that was swift, quiet, and could withstand harsh water
turbulence. They were used as a mode of transportation for subsistence hunting and gathering. They
were also a symbol of importance in society. ...it was the basis among men for obtaining wealth and
women (Zimmerly, 40). Wealth was measured on the ammount of goods a man could give away,

The beam of approximately 30 inches gave the kyak excellent stability and combined with a sealable
waterproof gut skin parka and one or two recovery techniques, made it very seaworthy ( Zimmerly,
40). The wood used was drift wood, and was steamed and bent into the prefered shape. The pegs to
hold the ribs in place were made out of specially selected driftwood or caribou antler. The seal skin
was removed from any hair, dried, and then soaked in urine and rain water to make it flexible enough
to sew. Then the skins sewn together with sinew on the outside, and then re sewn on the inside with
dried beach grass to make sure it was waterproof. The skins are then lashed onto the frame and then
oiled with seal oil and then caulked with a mixture of moss and seal oil. (Delta Discovery) The shape
of a qayaq is the most important characteristic to determine whether it will flow well in the water.
When a qayaq floats, it displaces an amount of water that is equal to its weight because water is
incompressible. When the qayaq is moving, it displaces more water. The amount of displacement
depends on the weight of the qayaq and the speed it is moving. If the path of the water was blocked,
say by a flat front, more energy would be needed to move the qayaq. This is why streamlining, or
laminar flow is important and needs to be considered when looking at the physics of a qayaq.

Aging Population Being Diagnosed With Cognitive Impairment
With the steady increase with the aging population being diagnosed with Cognitive Impairment, there
has been urgent demand for scientists to develop intelligent systems to support cognitively impaired
people. With this increase of the cognitively impaired, it has caused a strain on support services and in
turn it has had a negative impact socially and economically onto the society.
As a potential solution, assistive technology (AT) has always been seen as a reasonable approach to
help cognitively impaired users with their autonomy. Presented in the paper, the author gives a brief
overview about AT systems and how they have supported cognitive impaired people in their activities
in their daily living (ADL). AT systems aims to provide real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With the constraints of the suggested systems, the authors propose an idea to provide a solution that
overcomes the problems stated above. The proposition is to develop a nonintrusive system that is able
to recognise electrical activities via electrical appliances by monitoring the signals from the main
panel. This approach is less intrusive as it only requires one sensor; it is able to support cognitively
impaired people in their ADL by sending prompts via electrical devices. The idea of the nonintrusive
system is an extension but focuses on electrical appliances and how it can send prompts to the patients
of it also focuses on the previous work of the nonintrusive appliance loading monitoring system
(NIALM).
To justify the idea the proposed, a series of experiments are undertaken. This consists of implementing
the system into a real smart home with a single power analyser at the main electrical panel. The
assistive system was tested rigorously against real life scenarios, related to morning ADL to test the
accuracy and how competent the system is to assist patients in a real life context, algorithm for
assistance is implemented within the system for the activity recognition every time an electrical
appliance is used. The authors determined potential errors or abnormal situations to test out any
inconsistent behaviour which should cause a prompt to be sent to the patient to provide the appropriate

To What Extent Did Constitutional And Social Developments...
After the Civil War between the Union and the Confederacy, both sides became one again. Once the
war was over and the Union had won, the U.S. entered the Reconstruction period. Between 1865 and
1877, the U.S. brought about great change in both the North and the South. Constitutional and social
developments during this time ,as well as years before, that amounted to a revolution. During the
period of Reconstruction, the U.S. took on many constitutional developments. The first development
was the creation of the Confederacy. Major developments included the Reconstruction Amendments,

Most responses toward the new idea of being slavery free in America were negative. While
organizations like the Freedmen s Bureau emerged, so did organizations like the Ku Klux Klan. The
KKK was a white supremacist group that threatened and lynched black voters. They were a secret
group that terrorized African American and tried to stop blacks from having civil rights. Also,
Southern governments found gaps in the Reconstruction Amendments and were able to come up with
obstacles used to prevent blacks from voting. States had literacy tests, poll taxes, and a grandfather
clause. Literacy tests required the reading and understanding of a section of the state s constitution.
Before Reconstruction, most blacks were slaves and it was illegal for slaves to learn how to read and
write. Poll taxes prevented blacks from voting because most were poor sharecroppers or tenant
farmers. They had just left slavery and were out on their own trying to find jobs. The grandfather
clause allowed those whose fathers and grandfathers who voted on January 1, 1867 to vote. Because
the civil war just ended and blacks recently won their freedom, their fathers and grandfathers had
never voted in an election. No black in the South has voted back

Iodine 131 as a Treatment for Thyroid Cancer
There are a lot of radioisotopes, which are used in varieties of groups. From all the radioisotope, I
focused on the element of Iodine 131 which is commonly used for thyroid cancer treatment.
Therefore, I wanted to investigate on whether Japan should continue using iodine 131 as a treatment to
cure thyroid cancer and also for the nuclear power plants. In this essay, I will consider the advantage
and limitations of getting the treatment done but also in an economic, environmental and social way.
However, throughout this essay, I will argue that the iodine 131 treatments are good but not
completely good. In this treatment there are benefits of taking the treatment and also limitations or the
disadvantages of taking this treatment. It can be disadvantaging in economically, socially and
ethically. Thyroid cancer is fast growing cancer meaning this disease is common that it spreads all
over the world. According to American Cancer Society, 60,220 people in the US is suffering with
thyroid cancer in 2013, and 1,850 people out of 60,220 are not surviving. And it is said that most of
the population is the children (Graeber, Amy, 2013). Although it is spreading and many people are
suffering from it, thyroid cancer is rare that its not one of the major cancers. Out of all these issues one
of them is economical issue. Since the cost of the treatment is expensive, people who works normally
cannot afford big amount of money therefore it is becoming an issue that

A Letter About Fice Essay
Walking into the office, Carrie noticed that everyone seemed tense. She walked to Melissa s desk, an
old friend and coworker, and stated, What s going on? Why does everyone look so agitated? she said
in a low voice. We re about to have a meeting again because of someone else s mistake, Melissa
replied, biting on her lip. What happened? . Well, Jerry wrote a letter venting about the Boss, and he
made a mistake and sent it to him. What! , Carrie stated. He didn t try to send it to him. His intent was
to send it to Maggie, but he sent it to the Boss instead. And it gets worst Maggie was also talking
about leaving the company as well in the letter. Carrie shook her head as they walked into the meeting.
As the conference started the Boss began to speak in a manner that no adult should talk to another. He
screamed and sculled at everyone when they had nothing to do with the incident. By the time the
meeting was over many were talking about leaving the company. Some stated that the way he
communicated with them was very unprofessional, and they felt disrespected. Others stated they were
going to file complaints. Personally, I don t think the Boss handled himself in a professional way. As a
leader you must know the role of communication and effective leadership otherwise, you will lose

Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal, By Jonathan Swift
Jonathan Swift was a very crafty writer for his time. Living in 16th and 17th century Ireland must not
have been easy considering the history. During this time there was a famine and England was
watching and waiting for the downfall of this country. Swift was a satirical writer who was very good
at his craft. In A Modest Proposal, Swift introduces a lunatic idea that his country should eat the
children. He is, of course, joking, but he makes a huge statement in saying this. It shows that the
government would rather ignore or blame the problem on someone else rather than fixing the problem
itself. This reading relates to an audience in that Swift is trying to let the people of his time see what a
horrible government the people of Ireland live in. This argument mattered to the people of Ireland and
it should matter today because it shows how a government can say it takes care of its people when it
truly does not. A Modest Proposal, is a very valuable piece because it proves that it just takes one
voice to open the eyes of others, and I believe that Swift did an excellent job using the rhetorical
triangle because his satirical masterpiece made people think about how they were being treated by the
government.
In his first argument, Swift uses the appeal of logos when he says, It is a melancholy object to those
who walk through this great town or travel in the country, when they see the streets, the roads, the
cabin doors, crowded with beggars of the female sex, followed

It wasn t until the French settled in the 17th century, however, did western influence start affecting the
country. When the French took over Senegal, they changed the main crops grown by the Senegalese to
cash crops like peanuts and rice. The people of Senegal went from a simple bartering system that was
for the most part fair, to mercantilism serving the French empire. The French also introduced more
patriarchal practices by taking the land from the women and having the men work it as indentured
workers, paying them for only a small fraction. This caused a major shift in economic dependence in
families and set Senegal on a very patriarchal path. Women no longer could own land and work it for
themselves, and thus were forced to rely on the profits, now greatly reduced, of their husbands. In
addition to the new ways of money is made in a family, colonialism introduced ideas about women s
bodies and sexuality that created a tradition of racial manipulation. Many Senegalese women have
gone to such extremes, such as bleaching their skin, to achieve lighter skin tones that they are doing
serious damage to their bodies . An equal number of theses women are also putting most of their extra

The Importance Of Christopher Columbus Day
Christopher Columbus is the reason many Native Americans lost their land, and even their lives, so
why is Columbus Day a national holiday in the United States. This has been a common argument for
people who disagree with the celebration of Christopher Columbus. Many people believe the United
States should celebrate Indigenous People s Day opposed to Columbus day. Their idea that Native
Americans should be celebrated is a logical argument. Native Americans were in fact the first known
residents of the United States. However, Christopher Columbus bravery and resiliency should not be
forgotten. Columbus made an incredible discovery and opened many doors of opportunity for his
people and many others. For this reason, Columbus Day should continue to be a holiday that is
celebrated by the citizens of the United States. Columbus Day has been celebrated in the United States
for almost 150 years. It began in San Francisco in 1869 by a group of Italian Americans (Mai Duc).
Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, so it was not surprising that Italian Americans devoted
a day to his memory. Columbus discovery allowed Italians to conquer and inhabit a new, luxurious
territory. It was intriguing, but not shocking that the rest of the United States adopted Columbus Day
as a national holiday. It was in 1937 when the United States declared Columbus Day as a national
holiday (Segarra). This holiday is a remembrance of Christopher Columbus, his inspiring voyage, and
ultimately his

How Hemingway Has Too Strong Opinions On Homosexuality
Hemingway has extremely strong opinions on homosexuality, which Gertrude Stein attempts to
dissuade by convincing him that those who attempt to assault young boys are not well in their heads.
While Stein attempts this, Hemingway proclaims that because homosexuality exists, you [carry] a
knife and would use it when you were in the company of tramps when you were a boy in the days
when wolves was not a slang term for men obsessed by the pursuit of women (Hemingway 16). It
seems that Hemingway does not realize that, when objectifying women, he turns into one of the
wolves of which he is so afraid. However, Hemingway maintains his fear of homosexuality; he
ridicules an effeminate homosexual named Hal, satirizes Fitzgerald s sexual uncertainties, and
professes disgust at the lesbian practices of Stein and Toklas (Kennedy 187). Hemingway is horrified
by homosexuals, because he is afraid that he will be objectified by homosexual men just as he
objectifies the women in his own life. He believes that leering after unsuspecting partners is only okay
when he is an active participant; he is just afraid of being objectified and therefore, forced into an
action against his own will. However, homosexuality disturbs Hem, less because it involves alternate
erotic practices than because it subvert his fundamental assumptions about sex, gender, and desire
(Kennedy 191). He believes that men are only right to objectify, not to be objectified. He believes that
the gender and sexual

Presidential Election Results
How Did Pollsters Get It Wrong?
On last November 8th, the results of presidential election were a surprise and shock to most people
around the world, especially US residents because they consistently projected Hillary Clinton would
defeated Donald Trump. According to the article Presidential Election Results: Donald J. Trump Wins
in The New York Times, the total votes for Clinton were 62,391,335 (48%) and for Trump were
61,125,956 (47%). However, in contrast to earlier predictions, some states elected to Trump instead of
Clinton, and this result brought victory for Trump in the last hours of election day. In details, Trump
had 6 electoral votes from Iowa, 10 electoral votes from Wisconsin, 18 electoral votes from Ohio, 20
electoral votes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a great deal of speculation but no clear answers as to the cause of the disconnect, but there is
one point of agreement: Across the board, polls underestimated Trump s level of support. , said
Andrew Mercer, Claudia Deane and Kyley McGeeney authors on their article Why 2016 election polls
missed their mark in Pew Research Center. They also gave some several possible explanations for the
misstep. The first factor might be what pollsters refer to as nonresponse bias. Some groups, include
the less educated voters who were a key demographic for Trump on Election Day, are consistently
hard for pollsters to reach. Then, the result would be a strongly pro Trump segment of the population
that simply did not show up in the polls in proportion to their actual share of the population. The next
factor was many of those who were polled simply were not honest about whom they intended to vote
for. The explanation for this factor was support for Trump was socially undesirable, and that his
supporters were unwilling to admit their support to pollsters . In 1982, a similar case occurred in the
gubernatorial election in California. Democrat Tom Bradley, the black mayor of Los Angeles, lost to
Republican George Deukmejian despite having been ahead in the polls even though the voters were
reluctant to tell interviewers that they were not going to vote for a black candidate. The third factor
involves the way pollsters identify likely voters. Because we can t know in advance who is actually
going to vote, pollsters develop models predicting who is going to vote and what the electorate will
look like on Election Day. This is a notoriously difficult task, and small differences in assumptions can
produce sizable differences in election

with the increased attacks in Germany after the immigration.10 The Deputy Director of the German

decision on refugees, but now question the absence of management that went into the policy.11
Another problem with refugee immigration is how to integrate over a million refugees into the country

and has chosen the nation s security over humanitarian efforts. It stands by strict immigration laws so
as not to mirror the events in Germany caused by its allowance of refugees under the unfiltered

economic impingements of the large immigration have resulted in both positive and negative effects

Theme Of Loss In Birdsong
The theme of loss is also shown through all three writers work, demonstrated through the destruction
and brutality of the war. In Birdsong Stephen appears a strange and isolated figure at the beginning of
the novel who brings with him concepts of unrest, as he possesses a knife with a singular scrupulously
sharpened blade which suggests the idea of conflict. As well as losing Isabelle in a romantic sense, he
experiences extreme loss and privation throughout his time in the war, particularly the loss of Weir
and Jack Firebrace that are dealt with in graphic but simplistic language. Weir s death occurs suddenly
and within one paragraph his face is said to be smashing unprotected into mud . Stephen is pained by
his death and even feels he had loved him and he had made the ... Show more content on

When he dies, Stephen is left alone in the tunnel feeling bitterly alone , which demonstrates the need
for companionship to survive. The idea of loss is also shown when Elizabeth visits the memorial and
notices the columns teeming with names of unfound soldiers. Her response to this is one of shock as
she appeared unaware of the multitude of deaths and collapses saying My God, nobody told me . This
emphasises the extent of loss from a postwar perspective, which makes it appear even more tragic. As
Birdsong was written after the war, its purpose was to commemorate the losses and honour the dead,
as well as educate and promote remembrance. Loss features just as graphically in Dulce et Decorum
Est written by Owen during his time in Craiglockheart hospital, as it is a poem that uses Latin to mock
the glory of war and demonstrate the pain and death it can cause. The poem describes a true account of
a soldier being unable to protect himself quickly enough during a gas attack and the haunting effect of

Cones Lab Hypothesis
The purpose of this lab is to demonstrate the differential distribution of cones in the retna. This is done
by testing the participant temporal visual fields of the right eye. The eye sees a type of electromagnetic
radiation when it comes to color. The wavelengths are distributed to which colors we see. The high
wave lengths, for example, have red hues. The middle wavelengths are green, while lower
wavelengths are blue and purple. An individuals eye has the cornea on the outside as a protective

peripheral retina which would mean they would be identified sooner compared to m or l cones. Yet,
this was not effectively shown by having both m cones and l cones have a mean detection of 70
degrees. This was the earliest detection, which does not relate to the red and green activated
photoreceptors being distributed in the fovea. The data collected implies that the rods are located on
the outer area of the retina because of the early detection of a stimulus as stated in class. While the
cones disproved the distribution discussed in class due to the early detection of red and green at a
mean of 70 degrees vs. the late detection of blue at 68 degrees and 65 degrees for yellow. Although
this may not match the description of the distribution of cones in the retina discussed in class,
individuals have theses cones throughout their entire retinas, some cones such as l cones and m cones

Retention will be a challenge, according to a recent study. Retention requires a competitive salary and
great benefits. However, retention of your best requires a whole lot more. Employee involvement,
recognition, advancement, development and pay based on performance just get you started in your
quest to retain your best. An employee retention program boosts the bottom line and improves
customer Satisfaction. Employers know only too well the tightening effect that continued growth has
had on the labor market. Human resources publications constantly are regaling employers with tales of
employers competing for scarce employees using techniques like allowing employees to bring their
pets to work or hosting job fairs for convicts. Losing key employees

Marx s Views On Private Property
Introduction English philosopher John Locke and German philosopher Karl Marx seem completely
opposed in their views of private property. While Locke believes that private property is a natural
right, Marx believes that private property should be abolished. Throughout this paper, Locke s and
Marx s individual philosophies on private property will be presented and examined. Ultimately, this
paper seeks to show the similarities between these thinkers viewpoints on private property and
demonstrate that Marx s philosophies have some roots in Locke s. Moreover, this paper will examine
how these philosophies affected the course of social, economic, and civilizational process.
Private Property and its Relation to Government and Society
Locke saw the ownership of property an important natural rights, as well as fundamental to a good
government and society. He believed that all citizens had a right to life, liberty, and property , if they
had the means to attain it (SOURCE). He discusses his theories of property in the Second Treatise of
Government. He said that God gave man the earth to hold in common. However, once man adds labor
to the earth it becomes their private property. When a man plows a field, for example, it becomes his
and so too do the benefits (or the fruits) of this land.
The main purpose of the government, for Locke, is to protect an individual s private property. When a
state of nature is in place, there is no way for an individual to ensure that their property

The Idea Of A National Health Insurance System Essay
The idea of a national health insurance system can be traced back to President Teddy Roosevelt s
presidency in 1912 (A Brief History of Medicare in America). While he was campaigning to become
president his platform included health care reform, more specifically health care insurance (A Brief
History of Medicare in America). His idea never truly took off, but it remained on the agendas for the
presidents that would come after him. When President Truman s presidency took place, he proposed
the creation of a national health insurance fund that would be available to all Americans (A Brief
History of Medicare in America). He wanted this to be a program where individuals could receive
health coverage that would pay for a various amount of health services. Truman s efforts to push for
this healthcare reform was unsuccessful. The bill for this health coverage did not pass. President John
F. Kennedy s efforts for the creation of a health care program for seniors was just as unsuccessful as
Truman s attempt at individual health care coverage. It wasn t until President Lyndon B. Johnson s
presidency in 1965 that Medicare became law (A Brief History of Medicare in America). Medicare is
the largest health program in the country. This program is government operated and provides health
care coverage for over fifty five million Americans that are over the age of 65 (A Brief History of
Medicare in America). It also provides coverage to over eight million Americans with disabilities

Immune To Reality Daniel Gilbert Analysis
Humans are complex beings. We have different motivations, goals, and aspirations, but what
influences us to having these goals and what motivates us to strive for them. Daniel Gilbert, in his
essay immune to Reality states we have unconscious processes that influence our behavior, and also
that we heavily rely on the acceptance of others. Our goals coincided with others because human have
an instinctual drive to be accepted and to be happy, willing to do everything in their power to gain that
Our unconscious is constantly trying to make us feel better. Blurring the lines of reality if need be.

our nature to seek the answer to everything, but its the curiosity keeping us interested, not the answers

someone obsessing over a solution once they have it, testing it a couple times making sure that it

Andy Mulligan s Trash
Essay Topic: Discuss how Andy Mulligan represents the divide Between the Rich and the Poor in the
novel Trash, ? Andy Mulligan divides the rich and the poor by showing that the rich have more
freedom, a better appearance and get to be buried in the ground, You should see me, dressed to kill,

Mulligan shows the separation of the wealthy and the disadvantaged by describing, the wall at the

Political Cartoons Dynamic progress of Women s Rights in...
One of the best ways to judge the different political arguments in Canada from the early 20th century
is by reviewing the different political cartoons that were released. These were an effective way of
educating the masses because it did not require an advanced education or vocabulary to understand
where each side was debating. One of the more popular conflicts that were ongoing in the first years
of the 1900 s was the fight for women s equality. This included the right to vote and the right to
participate in government. By comparing political cartoons from before, during, and after the First
World War the changing context of Canadian society also affected the public opinion and the power
balance towards the evolution of Women s equality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second cartoon from 1910 depicts an anti suffragette prediction of what Parliament would look
like if women were allowed to participate. This drawing is in reply to a statement made by a British
feminist who says The day will come when women will sit in your Canadian Parliament. On one side
of this cartoon, the Canadian Parliament is filled with women who are busy trading recipes, worrying
if their hat is on straight, petty topics to discuss in parliament. On the other side there is Prime
Minister Borden busy flirting while a minister behind him is arguing: the appropriation for doilies and
tidies for members desks is, I claim, not inadequate to the dignity and toodleyumptyido of this house.
This is a kind of vocabulary that is not at the same high standard that is associated with politicians,
therefore bringing down the quality and intentions of the debates in Parliament. In the upper left hand
corner there is a man saying, Well I ll be damned, while leaning on a balcony beside a snail, which
symbolizes the rate of progress that parliament would assume if women were allowed to participate.
This is a demonstration of the importance of the male dominance in government, and an argument
against the suffragette movement. The final pre War cartoon is another anti suffragette opinion in
response to the 1912 arrests of protesting women. It is titled My Wifey Is In Jail and depicts the
husband of an incarcerated suffragette

Dr. James Naismith certainly would be satisfied to witness the present achievement of a basic
diversion that he composed over 100 years earlier. Basketball has changed over the times since it was
first developed. The basketball changed a few times before they came up with the perfect style ball for
this sport. The rules have changed from the original 13 rules to a whole book of rules. Since 1890 to
the present several rules have been established. For example, if a player who is fouled can t shoot the
free throw, the other team coach selects the free throw shooter from the 4 players on the floor. The
coach of the fouled player used to be able to select any player from his roster to substitute. Another
change in the rules are the formation around the free throw line. The players that are trying to retrieve
possession of the ball after the free throw shot changed the number of players around the lane from 8
to 6. Exchanging possession of the ball rule was introduced in this time period. The jump ball is only
to start the game and overtime periods. The teams alternate taking the ball out of bonds for situation

A Comparison of Death of a Naturalist and Digging by...
A Comparison of Death of a Naturalist and Digging by Seamus Heaney
The poems Death of a Naturalist and Digging have many similarities, and contrasts. Some of the
reoccurring themes in the two poems include memories of childhood and changes in the life of the
writer. There are contrasts too, in Death of a Naturalist ; the writer is concentrating on himself and his
own experiences in life, rather than the experiences of others. In Digging , the opposite is true, as the
writer concentrates mainly on the events in other people s lives, namely his father and grandfather.
The endings of both the poems have a different feel to them. Digging finishes in a much more positive
tone than Death of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Death of Naturalist is about a young boy, his love for nature and how he relishes every aspect of the
countryside. A part of this passion is being aware of a host of small things that many people would
find insignificant; animals, frogspawn and all the noises of life around him. This changes in the
second stanza. The poet has a change of heart and he seems to retreat from the nature he previously
loved. He writes:
I sickened, turned and ran
So we can see he doesn t feel the same passion about nature any more, it was a death of the naturalist.
Digging is about a young man who feels that he is not worthy to follow in his father s footsteps. He
tells the reader about how great his father and grandfather were, but throughout the poem he says very
little about himself. Towards the end his mind is changed. Although his ancestors were hard working
men who earned their living through digging, he feels that his writing is a worthy path to follow. He
will dig with his pen.
Toward the end of both these poems the feelings change. In each poem the writer feels one thing at the
beginning, but toward the conclusion his mind is changed, either for the better, in Digging , or for the
worse, in Death of a Naturalist . It could be said that he had a change in perspective.
Even so, both poems have a deeper

Traditional And Modern Medicine
Several treatment methods have been used by humans for cure diseases over the centuries. Two of the
treatment methods are traditional medicine and modern medicine. In fact, these two types of treatment
methods share the same objective from different approaches. Traditional medicine can be defined as
health practices based on the use of plants, plants extracts and animals. It is a theory with a non
scientific approach used to treat illness in the contrary of modern medicine which is a health practices
based on the use of pharmaceutical drugs. It is a scientific approach used to diagnose, prevent and
treat illness. Although traditional and modern medicine are similar in some ways, the differ in cost,
side effects and availability.
Traditional and modern medicine share the same curative objective which implies that they have
similarities from a general point of view. Both medicine is using plants extracts but in different
aspects. Though traditional medicine is based on the use of plants and herbs, modern medicine uses
many herbs and plant derivative based on biological and chemical aspect as well. Many common
drugs are derived from plant based sources directly or indirectly. Moreover, traditional and modern
medicine have both side effects. They could be harmful or ineffective for a human body if the dosage
is not well calculated, in this case we run the risk of over or under dose. Also, many side effects can
occur from the interaction of both medicine. Traditional and

Quality of life is elusive. Quality of life is complicated, multi faceted, and subjective. Conventional
ways of measuring it have emerged, mostly in terms of access to technology, level of fulfillment of

rule to abide by, it s rather ironic, in being that these knights fight in battles, while it s known that
Christ despises of conflict and war. In addition, people during this time were known to be more

Emory University Student Interview Report
Emory University School of Medicine is my first choice of medical school. Since the day of my
interview, I have felt like I belong there. The pride in the University, the love for the city of Atlanta
and the steadfast dedication to the underserved were ever present during my entire visit. The passion
Dr. Schwartz and Rachel, my tour guide, displayed for serving at Grady Hospital was infectious. After
being able to experience Grady first hand, I left feeling eager for the opportunity to serve at this
hospital and confident that I would learn much more than medicine there. I understand being at Grady
would be a challenge every day. Despite that, I desire to work there because of the access to
complicated cases and unique opportunities, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During my visit, hearing current students share their early patient interactions during Week on the
Wards as well as their outpatient clinical experiences inspired and energized me. I noted the genuine
excitement and camaraderie the Emory students had while their fellow classmates shared their own
individual experiences. It became clear to me that the collaborative atmosphere is not only present but
also encouraged at Emory. The new curriculum s preparation for residency, including finishing all of
the core rotations before applying for residency in addition to the month long capstone, is more
thorough than most and ideally designed to help me make a more informed decision regarding my
match preference. The discovery phase is a uniquely important aspect to Emory s curriculum as well.
During my undergraduate career, I worked two years on graduate research projects and look forward
to finding my passion at Emory in my own research. After hearing my student tour guide, Rachel,
explain that her research project analyzes the ethics of patients understanding a new and complicated
treatment, I realized I would probably prefer research that involves patient

kidnapping is that Pluto had fallen in love with Proserpine and wished to make her Queen of the
Underworld and was willing to take her away from her family and force her to leave earth. Proserpine
did not want to leave her family behind and never see them again, so Pluto made her a deal that she
would spend six months under water with Pluto and another six

Pierre-Auguste Renoir s Luncheon Of The Boating Party
Luncheon of the Boating Party by Pierre Auguste Renoir is one of the most renowned paintings. The
painting is significant to the age of impressionism; this movement in France took place in 1870 s 1880
s. Impressionism is identified through the strokes, colors and light that is present in the piece.
Luncheon of the Boating Party depicts the identity of impressionism during the bridge of the 19th to
the 20th century. Luncheon of the Boating Party is composited of a variety of different physical
properties. The piece is large in size, with the height of the painting, 130 by 173 cm, on an oil canvas.
Renoir s uses brush strokes to convey the image. He uses soft and smooth lines to blend the colors,
and he layers them to create texture. The composition has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Once you look at Renoir s painting, you immediately notice the colors. The piece involves a variety of
different colors not only separately but also combined constructing different skin tones, and
complexions. The surface is dominated by contrasted colors of soft and smooth variations of colors,
crisp accents along with warm and cool colors as well as light and dark tone all working together.
These colors include, blue, brown, pink, yellow, orange, green and red. The colors of the women s
faces, for example, the blush color added to their cheeks, conjure an element of intimacy to the
painting. Renoir is known for invoking moods from his subjects rather than stories. Before this time
period these colors were not typically experimented with, which is why paintings of Impressionism
maintain a unique brightness. The piece looks like it is necessary a sketch is drawn to create the
image, however Renoir like many other Impressionists did not plan their work ahead but rather
developed compositions as they painted . The canvas captures a real event taking place, however it
cannot be described as realism because of the textures previously

  • 2. Opera Today Research Paper Opera is just as popular as it was years ago. In the past groups of individuals used to meet up in opera houses to watch the host perform a play or a musical. As of now most opera is played through music cd s and DVD s, which is far less cheaper than purchasing a ticket to see a live show. Opera today still takes place on stage and in theaters. The high cost of production can sometimes make it not possible to have a live show which is very common in today s time. Majority of the opera songs that are played today come from jazz, folk , and rock musicals. Modern opera now uses electrical equipment to improve hearing and visual aid. The most common form of opera in the 20th and 21th century is rock musicals. This type of musical is just like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the government does not care about what happens, the free market is also called hands off or let it be economics . In the free market economy, there are three components of the free market economy: competition, active but limited government, and the self interest. More importantly, it gives a reason as to why today, the United States government puts an emphasis on equality more than ever, or do they? The Civil Right Movement takes place from the 1950s to the 1960s with an unwavering amount of economic, political, and social repression against African Americans. Coming of Age in Mississippi is worth reading because it provides readers a different perspective on the individual s discovery of segregation, experiences from living in a tumultuous time in history, insight on what it means to stand up for change, and a segway to relate Moody s experiences to our own today. There comes a time in all young children s life when we learn to be self aware, meaning we realize who we are and what makes us different from the people around us. In Anne Moody s life, this became apparent to her during childhood when she realizes that she is in a world where she and the kids she plays with are treated differently. The seal skin was removed from any hair, dried, and then soaked in urine and rain water to make it flexible enough to sew. When a qayaq floats, it displaces an amount of water that is equal to its weight because water is incompressible. When the qayaq is moving, it displaces more water. The amount of displacement depends on the weight of the qayaq and the speed it is moving. If the path of the water was blocked, say by a flat front, more energy would be needed to move the qayaq. This is why streamlining, or laminar flow is important and needs to be considered when looking at the physics of a qayaq. (http://www.rockisland.com/~kyak/floatbod.html) There ... With this increase of the cognitively impaired, it has caused a strain on support services and in turn it has had a negative impact socially and economically onto the society. As a potential solution, assistive technology (AT) has always been seen as a reasonable approach to help cognitively impaired users with their autonomy. The idea of the nonintrusive system is an extension but focuses on electrical appliances and how it can send prompts to the patients of it also focuses on the previous work of the nonintrusive appliance loading monitoring system (NIALM). • 12. Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal, By Jonathan Swift Jonathan Swift was a very crafty writer for his time. Living in 16th and 17th century Ireland must not have been easy considering the history. During this time there was a famine and England was watching and waiting for the downfall of this country. Swift was a satirical writer who was very good at his craft. In A Modest Proposal, Swift introduces a lunatic idea that his country should eat the children. He is, of course, joking, but he makes a huge statement in saying this. It shows that the government would rather ignore or blame the problem on someone else rather than fixing the problem itself. This reading relates to an audience in that Swift is trying to let the people of his time see what a horrible government the people of Ireland live in. This argument mattered to the people of Ireland and it should matter today because it shows how a government can say it takes care of its people when it truly does not. A Modest Proposal, is a very valuable piece because it proves that it just takes one voice to open the eyes of others, and I believe that Swift did an excellent job using the rhetorical triangle because his satirical masterpiece made people think about how they were being treated by the government. In his first argument, Swift uses the appeal of logos when he says, It is a melancholy object to those who walk through this great town or travel in the country, when they see the streets, the roads, the cabin doors, crowded with beggars of the female sex, followed ... The French also introduced more patriarchal practices by taking the land from the women and having the men work it as indentured workers, paying them for only a small fraction. This caused a major shift in economic dependence in families and set Senegal on a very patriarchal path. Women no longer could own land and work it for themselves, and thus were forced to rely on the profits, now greatly reduced, of their husbands. In addition to the new ways of money is made in a family, colonialism introduced ideas about women s bodies and sexuality that created a tradition of racial manipulation. The Importance Of Christopher Columbus Day Christopher Columbus is the reason many Native Americans lost their land, and even their lives, so why is Columbus Day a national holiday in the United States. This has been a common argument for people who disagree with the celebration of Christopher Columbus. Many people believe the United States should celebrate Indigenous People s Day opposed to Columbus day. Their idea that Native Americans should be celebrated is a logical argument. Native Americans were in fact the first known residents of the United States. However, Christopher Columbus bravery and resiliency should not be forgotten. Columbus made an incredible discovery and opened many doors of opportunity for his people and many others. For this reason, Columbus Day should continue to be a holiday that is celebrated by the citizens of the United States. Columbus Day has been celebrated in the United States for almost 150 years. It began in San Francisco in 1869 by a group of Italian Americans (Mai Duc). Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, so it was not surprising that Italian Americans devoted a day to his memory. Columbus discovery allowed Italians to conquer and inhabit a new, luxurious territory. It was intriguing, but not shocking that the rest of the United States adopted Columbus Day as a national holiday. How Hemingway Has Too Strong Opinions On Homosexuality Hemingway has extremely strong opinions on homosexuality, which Gertrude Stein attempts to dissuade by convincing him that those who attempt to assault young boys are not well in their heads. While Stein attempts this, Hemingway proclaims that because homosexuality exists, you [carry] a knife and would use it when you were in the company of tramps when you were a boy in the days when wolves was not a slang term for men obsessed by the pursuit of women (Hemingway 16). It seems that Hemingway does not realize that, when objectifying women, he turns into one of the wolves of which he is so afraid. However, Hemingway maintains his fear of homosexuality; he ridicules an effeminate homosexual named Hal, satirizes Fitzgerald s sexual uncertainties, and professes disgust at the lesbian practices of Stein and Toklas (Kennedy 187). Hemingway is horrified by homosexuals, because he is afraid that he will be objectified by homosexual men just as he objectifies the women in his own life. He believes that leering after unsuspecting partners is only okay when he is an active participant; he is just afraid of being objectified and therefore, forced into an action against his own will. However, homosexuality disturbs Hem, less because it involves alternate erotic practices than because it subvert his fundamental assumptions about sex, gender, and desire (Kennedy 191). There is a great deal of speculation but no clear answers as to the cause of the disconnect, but there is one point of agreement: Across the board, polls underestimated Trump s level of support. , said Andrew Mercer, Claudia Deane and Kyley McGeeney authors on their article Why 2016 election polls missed their mark in Pew Research Center. They also gave some several possible explanations for the misstep. The first factor might be what pollsters refer to as nonresponse bias. Some groups, include the less educated voters who were a key demographic for Trump on Election Day, are consistently hard for pollsters to reach. Then, the result would be a strongly pro Trump segment of the population that simply did not show up in the polls in proportion to their actual share of the population. The next factor was many of those who were polled simply were not honest about whom they intended to vote for. The explanation for this factor was support for Trump was socially undesirable, and that his supporters were unwilling to admit their support to pollsters . In 1982, a similar case occurred in the gubernatorial election in California. Democrat Tom Bradley, the black mayor of Los Angeles, lost to Republican George Deukmejian despite having been ahead in the polls even though the voters were reluctant to tell interviewers that they were not going to vote for a black candidate. The third factor involves the way pollsters identify likely voters. Because we can t know in advance who is actually going to vote, pollsters develop models predicting who is going to vote and what the electorate will look like on Election Day. This is a notoriously difficult task, and small differences in assumptions can produce sizable differences in election ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Idea Of A National Health Insurance System Essay The idea of a national health insurance system can be traced back to President Teddy Roosevelt s presidency in 1912 (A Brief History of Medicare in America). While he was campaigning to become president his platform included health care reform, more specifically health care insurance (A Brief History of Medicare in America). His idea never truly took off, but it remained on the agendas for the presidents that would come after him. When President Truman s presidency took place, he proposed the creation of a national health insurance fund that would be available to all Americans (A Brief History of Medicare in America). He wanted this to be a program where individuals could receive health coverage that would pay for a various amount of health services. Truman s efforts to push for this healthcare reform was unsuccessful. The bill for this health coverage did not pass. President John F. Kennedy s efforts for the creation of a health care program for seniors was just as unsuccessful as Truman s attempt at individual health care coverage. It wasn t until President Lyndon B. Johnson s presidency in 1965 that Medicare became law (A Brief History of Medicare in America). Medicare is the largest health program in the country. This program is government operated and provides health care coverage for over fifty five million Americans that are over the age of 65 (A Brief History of Medicare in America). One of the best ways to judge the different political arguments in Canada from the early 20th century is by reviewing the different political cartoons that were released. These were an effective way of educating the masses because it did not require an advanced education or vocabulary to understand where each side was debating. One of the more popular conflicts that were ongoing in the first years of the 1900 s was the fight for women s equality. This included the right to vote and the right to participate in government. By comparing political cartoons from before, during, and after the First World War the changing context of Canadian society also affected the public opinion and the power balance towards the evolution of Women s equality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second cartoon from 1910 depicts an anti suffragette prediction of what Parliament would look like if women were allowed to participate. This drawing is in reply to a statement made by a British feminist who says The day will come when women will sit in your Canadian Parliament. On one side of this cartoon, the Canadian Parliament is filled with women who are busy trading recipes, worrying if their hat is on straight, petty topics to discuss in parliament. On the other side there is Prime Minister Borden busy flirting while a minister behind him is arguing: the appropriation for doilies and tidies for members desks is, I claim, not inadequate to the dignity and toodleyumptyido of this house. This is a kind of vocabulary that is not at the same high standard that is associated with politicians, therefore bringing down the quality and intentions of the debates in Parliament. In the upper left hand corner there is a man saying, Well I ll be damned, while leaning on a balcony beside a snail, which symbolizes the rate of progress that parliament would assume if women were allowed to participate. This is a demonstration of the importance of the male dominance in government, and an argument against the suffragette movement. Some of the reoccurring themes in the two poems include memories of childhood and changes in the life of the writer. There are contrasts too, in Death of a Naturalist ; the writer is concentrating on himself and his own experiences in life, rather than the experiences of others. Death of Naturalist is about a young boy, his love for nature and how he relishes every aspect of the countryside. A part of this passion is being aware of a host of small things that many people would find insignificant; animals, frogspawn and all the noises of life around him. This changes in the second stanza. The poet has a change of heart and he seems to retreat from the nature he previously loved. He writes: I sickened, turned and ran So we can see he doesn t feel the same passion about nature any more, it was a death of the naturalist. Digging is about a young man who feels that he is not worthy to follow in his father s footsteps.
