This document summarizes a study analyzing traffic speed data on a road outside NICMAR Gate no. 1 in India. A team of 4 students conducted a spot speed study using enoscopes to record the time taken for vehicles to travel a 50m stretch of the road. They collected over 70 time readings and calculated the speeds. Most vehicles traveled between 30-40 km/h. The results were analyzed to determine the speed distribution and limits. This will help determine the design speed for checking geometric elements of the highway.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

• Our Study Area was the road outside NICMAR Gate no: 1
• This road has quite a number of small shops on one side
and is located close to MITCON university as well.
• We feel this road was best suited to conduct our analysis
as this is used quite frequently and would provide us
with a lot of readings that will help improve our accuracy
of our outcome
7. PROCEDURE
• Two reference points were taken and measuring
tape was used to measure the distance between the
points.
• Chalk was used to mark the two points. The two
observers were stationed at these points.
• An observer stood at the reference point where the
enoscope was fixed. Every time the image of a
passing vehicle is seen through the enoscope, the
stop watch is started.
8. •The second observer would then stop the stopwatch whenever he observed the same vehicle pass
the second reference point.
•The distance apart and the time taken for each
vehicle to cover the distance were used to calculate
the speed of each vehicle

MEthOD(EQUiPMENt USED)
ENOSCOPE:
• This device, also known as the Mirror-box, is an L-shaped box,
open at both ends, with a mirror set at a 45-degree angle to
the arms of the instrument.
• The instrument bends the line of sight of the observer so that
it is perpendicular to the path of the vehicle.
• The stop-watch is started as soon as the vehicle passes the
first reference point and is stopped as soon as it passes the
observer.
• The method can be used with one enoscope or with two
enoscopes.
11. Methodology
• This is an account of how the speed study was
carried out.
• Location: Stretch of road in front of NICMAR gate
no.1.
• Number of individuals involved : Two(5)
• Period of study: between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
on a weekday .
• Instruments used: Stop-watch, measuring tape,
marker chalk, data sheet/book.
