How to write SOPs
A SOP contains several usual elements that tell the
user the following:
• who is responsible for conducting the procedure;
• what to do;
• how to do it;
• required equipment or supplies and where they
are located;
• frequency to conduct the procedure; and
• the critical parameters/occurrences that require
immediate action or notification of management.

Title: Provide a descriptive title
Purpose(or Objective): aims and/or objectives of the Standard Operating
Procedure (SOP).
Scope: This section should identify who exactly the SOP shall apply to.
Responsibility : In this section describe who will perform the activity, who will
check and who will verify the activity
Procedure: This is main body of SOPs. The procedure section should contain
clear and concise statements of how to complete the activity, to execute
the task
Rationale: Explain why the procedure is being conducted.
Definitions: List any definitions or acronyms required to understand the SOP.
References: This section should include a list of any normative references
(such as resolutions, rules and regulations or international standards)
History : This section contain the date that this sop was first approved and
issued , its should include subsequent review and modification
