Frequency of Release
This music magazine will be released
monthly as this magazine will contain
more information than a weekly
music magazine and this magazine
will be more expensive.
Price
The price of the magazine is £4.20, is released monthly and
therefore there will be more content in the magazine . This will
make the audience feel as if the magazine is more exclusive than
the weekly music magazine. This is the same price as my magazine
of inspiration of Q magazine.
Brand Identity
On the right hand
corner of the
magazine is my logo
and the issue number,
which will be
repeated as brand
Identity. In addition,
there will be some
mention of synergy
with the social media
account, which my
magazine will have.
Genre
Image
There will be the main image on the front cover of the
magazine. The artist mentioned will be famous or upcoming.
This will have different eclectic music and therefore there
will be an eclectic artist mentioned on the front cover of the
magazine. The image will be a mid-shot of the artist, the
mid-shot will include their facial expression, body language
and quotes from their interview.
Genre
My music magazine will have this
gerne of eclectic of music. The
content of my music magazine
will be like Q magazine. This is
important because my music
magazine will educate the
younger target audience about
the older style of music such as
Queen and David Bowie, while
the music magazine will educate
the older target audience about
music of today like Kanye West or
Sam Smith, so they will
understand more about the 21st
century music cultural.
Colour Theme
The colour scheme of the magazine is red, black, white and maybe
gold on the masthead, so this will suggest that buying our magazine is
a special occasion and a celebration. I have chose these colours for
the music magazine as they are eye-catching for the target audience.
The masthead will be similar to Mojo magazine. However the main
colour of the magazine will be black and white.Target Audience
My music magazine will have the target
audience between the ages of 15-30 year old,
as the content of my music magazine will have
the genre of eclectic music. The statistics of Q
magazine is where I have based my idea. Also
Q magazine reveal that most of the music
magazine highest target audience come from
the teenagers 15-24. Moreover, the front
cover of my music magazine will feature artist
that the different age range will known and
like. Also someone in the magazine that males
and females will appeal to, so both gender will
buy the music magazine.
The socio-economic needs of my audience will
be in the D and E of the chart. This is
important because this will included students,
they will have a bigger interest in music and
may want to know more about the past
famous music artists like David Bowie.
Mood Board
I have chosen this font for my
music magazine because this is
simple and bold. Also this font is
easy to read for my target
audience.
I want to include old style of music like the
Beatles so this will appeal to the older target
audience, so they will buy and music
magazine and therefore my music magazine
will be more popular. In addition, the old style
of music could teach the younger audience,
how much music has changed over a period
of time and teach them more about the music
industry.
As well as including an old style of music, I
also want to include contemporary music
like Kayne West as this could appeal to the
younger target audience.
This could also teach them about the
modern day music industry and want
talent you need to be in the music
industry.
The colour wheel will
help me decide what
colour I should include
in my music magazine.
In addition, this will
help me because I know
what colour is best
suited for each other.
This picture of Bjork denotes
that I want my music
magazine to be bright, bold
and unique. I also want my
music magazine to be as
colourful as this, which I hope
will be eye catching for the
target audience.
This is the symbol for
Facebook. This reveals
that my music magazine
will on social magazine to
keep close with the target
audience, as they can see
my music magazine daily

I have decided the colour theme for my magazine will be black and white, as
both of the colours can be used for the font and also the background.
Moreover, the primary colour of the magazine is red, as red is a bold and bright
colour. In addition, I will have the colour gold as the font. Moreover, my
magazine will included the colour blue, as both of the colour are fresh and
clean. This mean that they will stand out because both of the colours are bright.
Price
The price of the magazine will be £4.20 like my
magazine of inspiration , Q magazine, this is because
my music magazine frequency will be monthly,
therefore my music magazine will contain more

Genre
Like my magazine of inspiration,
Q magazine. The genre of my
music magazine will be eclectic.
This is important because, with a
eclectic genre, this will be more
interesting to read or to look at
pictures from the past. Moreover,
the reason why I have chose an
eclectic genre for my magazine is
because you will attract a
different target audience and also
people who like different style of
music to read. Another magazine,
which I have researched is NME,
who have a similar genre than Q
magazine
Frequency of Release
My music magazine will be released
monthly because there will be more
content in the music magazine. Moreover,
you can tell that the frequency of release
is monthly because on the barcode it will
have the release date on it.
Image
There will be a main image on the front cover of the
magazine. The artist will be famous or an upcoming artist
that will be mentioned. This will have different eclectic
music and therefore there will be an eclectic range of artists
mentioned on or in the front cover of the magazine.
The image will be a mid-shot of the artist, the mid-shot will

On the corner of the

the magazine, there
will be my logo and
the issue number,
which will be

by the brand
identity you can
associated with the
music magazine.
Target Audience
My music magazine will have the target audience
between the ages of 15-30 year old, as the content
of my music magazine will have the genre of eclectic
music. The statistics of Q magazine is where I have

the music magazine highest target audience come

the different age range will know and like. Also
someone in the magazine that will appeal to
females to encourage them to buy the music
magazine. However, males can buy the magazine as
well.
The socio-economic need of my music magazine will
be D and E for the students and the young adult,
they will be exploring their music interests, and also
exploring different artists or bands that they may
not heard off before. Moreover, the price of the
music magazine is cheap, as they buy the magazine
monthly, which could be in their budget of living.
Mood Board 2)
This is the symbol for
twitter, a social media
website. This will inform us
that my music magazine will
be on social media, which
means the audience can
subscribe to the magazine
to hear about the latest
gossip or news about my
music magazine.
This is an example of a masthead
for a music magazine. This
connotes that my masthead will
be similar to Mojo masthead, as
its spell out the name of the
music magazine.
The colours will contain
hidden meanings that will
be eye catching for my
target audience.
This is a style which I will want for
my music magazine, as this is
simple and bold. Moreover, this
font is easy to read, so my audience
can read the the title of the
magazine easily.
This is a picture of a modern
day artist, Ellie Goulding. As
this picture will attract the
younger audience to read
this music magazine.
Moreover, the older
audience will know what
the younger audience is
interested in and therefore,
they can compare how
music has changed.
This is a picture of the Rolling
Stones, to attract the older
audience to my music magazine.
This is important because they
can read about singers/bands
from their childhood and also
enjoy reading them.
Front Cover
The denotation of the strapline line for Q
magazine is “The World’s Greatest Music
Magazine. This suggests that this magazine has an
eclectic mix of music for all generations to read as
this magazine is made with the best quality for the
reader. The use of the word “World's” convey that
the magazine is a success and is a global magazine.
This could also denote that the magazine is so
popular that it is sold globally. The superlative
“greatest” suggests that the Q magazine is made
to a high quality, it is one of a kind and you can’t
get the same information about music is another
magazine.
The masthead of the magazine is eye-catching, simple and bold. The letter “Q” on the masthead
suggests that this is a mature magazine because of the front of the “Q”. The masthead is bold and
stands out. The red background is eye catching and bright, this could suggest that this is a powerful
magazine because the red symbolises power and this will give you the exclusive information and
you are able to explore different genres of music. In addition, the white contrasts with the red
background, making the white letters bold and easier on the eye for the target audience.
The main image of Amy Winehouse is on the cover of Q magazine. Her
facial expression is neutral, which could convey that this is the end of
her impact of music, a year after she died. This could bring out an
emotion from the audience as she died and therefore stopped creating
music. In addition, the audience can see her tattoos of the two red and
black hearts, the red could represent her love for music and the black
could represent her drug addiction and how her life ended so tragically .
The barcode, issue date and price,
will inform the audience of the
magazine’s price and the issue date
of the magazine.
The headline of the magazine is “exclusive
Amy Winehouse tribute CD” this means the
audience can read and listen to her best
song in her time alive like Rehab or Back and
Black.
The inside features in the red box, is
the exclusive of which articles will be
mentioned in the magazine, this show s
different artist s mentioned in the
magazine and how they attract
different age range of audiences like
Rizzle kicks and Maroon 5 for the
teenagers and Stewart Lee for adults.
Coverlines/Pull-quote is used to attract
the audience. Red and white have been
chosen as the colour theme for this issue
of the magazine. This could be because
the letters are more eye-catching for the
audience, which could contrast against
the dark, dull, grey.
The background of Amy Winehouse could be a white door, where
there is no light which make the door look grey. This could represent
her life ending and also the ending of her music. This could express an
emotion of sadness, loss of someone who have changed the music
industry forever by her voice. The door could represent a talented
young woman walking out of our lives as the alcohol and drug
addiction took over her life. On the other hand, this could convey that
the alcohol and the drugs entered her life and led to her death. The
door could represent the duality of her life, her love of music and
enjoyment of entertaining her fans and the darkness of her addictions
which happened behind closed doors. The main cover of the magazine is “Amy” in capital letters to
emphasise that it’s been a year since she died. This could
attract the audience to buy this magazine as she is still famous
and still well known for her music, even after she died and
people may want to know more about her life and her death.
The name “Amy” is in large white writing so this can contrast
the white and grey so the letter can be more eye catching for
the audience.
Double Page Spread Analysing
The drop capital is to attract the audience to read about Elle
Goulding’s albums and learn fun facts about her albums and
rumours about her songs. Also, it named the producers, the
release date, where the albums were recorded and tracks on
the drop capital.
The technical code of the medium
shot on the double page spread
focuses on Ellie Goulding . The
photograph of Ellie Goulding is taken
with a medium shot, as her hands are
over her headphone. This could
suggest that music is really important
to her as in the background, she is in
the recording studio planning one of
her many hits. Her face shows high
concentration, which implies that she
wants to make the best music possible.
She has chosen to wear black clothing
instead of bright coloured clothing
which suggests she could be trying to
rip off her good girl image and become
more rebellious . This implies that as
she is changing, also her music will
change.
On the left of the image there is a pull quote which is in bold
white capital letters. This is accompanied by a specific quote that
was included from the interview. The pull quote from Q “Hear Me
Roar” conveys that we haven’t heard the best of Ellie Goulding
yet. In addition, this could suggest that she was never number
one on the music magazine in the past and is determined to
achieve that position now and she won’t be second best without a
fight, as she is the number one female artist for Q.
The stand first on the double page spread is below the pull quote as
her name is highlighted in yellow to ensure the she actually said that
to Q . It is also eye-catching to the audience so they can quickly read
her threat to the music industry as she will become a global artist. In
addition, the quote is in red with the rest of the interview text in
black. Also the front is bold in colour and eye-catching for the reader
who will be drawn to read this quote.
Having another drop capital
in pale yellow about the next albums of
other artists such as CeeLo Cool, Wilko
Johnson or Deadmaus, suggests that all of
these artists mentioned are her rivals in the
music industry. During the double page
spread the focus is on Ellie Goulding as the
public eye is on her as she is the up and
coming artists and her album will change her
clean image and also the audience will have
high expectations for this album because she
has put all of her energy and power into the
new albums. She has expressed some
emotive phrases that will keep the readers
wondering about her new attitude to her
music.
Contents Analysis
The sub line of the
magazine summarise
the artist, interviews
and also the page
number of the review,
which is called the Q
Review, suggesting
that writers interview
the artist and what
they have done or
write a review of what
they have done.
On the right side of the
magazine the Q logo can be
found along with the issue
date of the magazine.
On the content page the page number
anchors the main picture of the artist and
directs the audience to read the story
about their favourite artists. In addition,
below the page number there is a
summary of what the artist has achieved
or facts about them so the audience can
understand them more as the person
than a celebrity.
On the main picture of U2
on the content page, they
a flash which stated
“Cover Story” this suggests
that they are the main
focus of this issue of Q,
therefore this will attract
the audience to read the
interview of one of the
most famous band in the
world.
The masthead of this issue of Q stated the name of
the content page, the logo of Q and the issue date.
This will inform the reader what page this is so they
can find different sections of the magazine they
want to read. For instance, if they want to read
about 50 Cent and his music and business, they can
refer to the content page. This Logo is a type of
branding advertisement to letting the reader know
that they are reading Q magazine. The logo also
refers to the issue number of the magazine because
this will let the audience know if they have read the
recent issue of Q or not, so they can buy the newest
Q magazine if they don’t have the newest issue of Q.
In addition, some people collect magazines so the
collector can buy Q to add to their collection so that
they can prove that they have every single issue of
Q.
Genre
Q magazine
Q magazine has a variety of different genres of music.
Evidence of the eclectic music in the magazine is on their homepage where
there are exclusive images and songs of Paul McCartney in 1981, which
premieres a remix of his song Tug of War, which is rock and pop genre music.
Also, further down the homepage, there is an article about 50 Cents, who are
a modern hip hop music. Also in the magazine, there are different examples
of artists who all have a different genre of music such as Amy Winehouse the
year after she died, Cheryl Cole and David Bowie .
The magazine is supported by the demographics of the Q magazine. As all age
ranges do read the magazine because of the eclectic range of articles . The
highest percentage of people who read Q magazine is male between the ages
of 15-24 , as they would be interested in different generation of music, like U2
or David Bowie. So they can explore their music interest.
Front Cover Layout of the Magazine
The appealing aspect of the front cover are the main image. This is because the main image will
create ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) so that more people will buy the magazine because of the
music artists who is on the front cover. Therefore, if Q get a well known and liked music artist on
the front cover, it will most likely cause an increase of in sales as the audience will recognise the
artists. However, the text around the image such as the masthead, main headline and coverline,
will meet the theory of inform and educate (Katz), as this will enable the reader to gain
information and knowledge about the contents of the magazine. This could help and create ‘star
appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as the reader will know which music artist or band will be included within
the magazine. Therefore it will help to build a personal relationship (Katz)with the artists and
bands because of the information that they can find out.
Some of the less important text should be positioned in a way that it doesn’t take away any of the
‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) from the artist or the magazine’s content. If the ‘star appeal’
(Richard Dyer) is taken away, it could cause less people being interested within the magazine and
therefore cause a decrease in sales for the magazine.
During the planning of the front cover of my magazine, I decided where the images and the text
should go so that I will be able to gain ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) it will encourage more readers
and increase popularity in my magazine and therefore potentially increase the monthly sales.
Firstly, I created a hand drawn draft and also graphic layout so that I am able to test the different
positions of the image and text so that I will know will gain the most ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) .
The way that I have made the front cover to look more professional is by using Photoshop CS6 .
The software will enable me to edit any images and also to create new features, which look
professional as well.
Another way that I am planning to create ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) for my magazine and a
feature that sometime Q magazine will included is a puff promotion. This is a way to gain more
audience to the magazine as it will feel like that they are gaining more when they buy the
magazine. Q magazine do not normally use a puff promotion, which could cause them to lose out
on readers, by having a free gift you could entice someone with purchase Q magazine who will then
become a regular reader. In the May 2005 with the issue number of 226, Q magazine advertised a
free CD included with the magazine. The caption about the puff promotion was “ FREE CD! 15
great British Tracks” this will gain ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as the words “ FREE CD!” are in red
and bold so it will be eye catching for the reader to see. Also they used patriotic language when
using the word ‘British’ so that people might buy the magazine because of all of the British songs
that will be included in the CD. The puff promotion could cause the magazine to gain higher
subscription and therefore readership because of the puff promotion.
I have decided to use a puff promotion on my front cover of my magazine as it could help the
readers notice my magazine. Therefore make them want to find out more about my magazine and
what it stands for. This could increase the subscription and readership of my magazine because of
the different puff promotion that will be featuring in my magazine.
DPS Layout of the Magazine
Q magazine have a different layout for their double page spread
but their traditional double page spread are one page which will
include the interview and an image of the artist or band that was
included in the interview. The large image of the artist or band will
gain ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as there is no text that overlaps
the image and therefore the reader will be able to clearly see the
image of the artist. However, I have decided to ‘repeat’ (Steve
Neale – 1980) the format of the double page spread of the
magazine October 2015 with issue number 351 of Q magazine as
it will gain the readers’ interest because of the variety of of images
and text that will be included in my magazine. Therefore, the
reader will also be gaining inform and educate (Katz) because of
the interview and also the different text boxes that will included
on the double page spread.
Other features that will be included in the double page spread will
be quotes from the interview. This will create ‘star appeal’
(Richard Dyer) as it will encourage the readers to read the rest of
the interview because they are able to gather the tone of the text
such funny or sad.
I will use Photoshop CS6 to make my double page spread look
professional and accurate so that out magazine will have a good
reputation and able to compete against other rival magazines. This
is important as I will be able to create text boxes to be the same
size and on the same line. In addition, I will be able to edit my
main image so that it will look professional and therefore gain ‘star
appeal’ (Richard Dyer) among the readers.
Style of the Magazine
I have different research and created a mood board in order to help know what style my magazine should be. I would
need a style that will appeal to my intended target audiences.
I have decided on the colour scheme of my magazine, the colours that will be used are red, gold, black and white. The
reason why I have chosen these colours are because they will help to make the magazine standout and also it will catch
the readers’ interest. These colours will highlight the important part of the magazine and therefore reveal how
exclusive the contents are.
To make sure that I have made the colour the exactly the same throughout my magazine I will have saved the colour
swatches so that I will always have easy access to the colour. This is important as the colour gold is a colour that will
have to be made on the colour picker. This means that I am able to find the shade of colour that I want to use and then
save the colour to my swatches. In addition, I sometimes use the Eye Dropper tool so that I will be able to find the
exact colour quickly.

Magazine Flat Plan
This is the flat plan
for my first music
magazine. The red
number represent
which page will be
mentioned in the
music magazine.
I have made 60

frequency of the
magazine is
monthly and
therefore need
more pages than a
weekly or
fortnightly
magazine.
This is where my
double page spread
will be display on
my magazine
Spending Power
• The statistics of the readership of Q magazine reveals that ages between 15-
24 as the age range that read Q magazine the most.
• Therefore I predict that people between the ages of 15-24 will read
EXCLUSIVE magazine as both of the magazines will feature different genre of
artists and bands.
• The Hartley’s seven subjective and age, gender, class, self image, nationality,
family and ethnicity is reference when looking at the statistic of the age range
of the readership of the magazines and the spending power.
• The spending power would be similar to Q magazine, as the ABC1 is 70% of
readership to Q magazine.
• This reveals that the readership of a magazine would have to earn a high
income and therefore can afford to buy Q magazine monthly.
• I could predict that people would be able to buy a more expensive magazine,
which could have a higher quality contents.
• However, the statistics for the gender ratio for Q magazine is that a higher
percentage of males read Q magazine rather than females. This would be the
difference both Q magazine and my prediction as the statistics of EXCLUSIVE
magazine, as Q magazine is a male dominated magazine.
• This is why EXCLUSIVE magazine features equal amount of female and male
artists and bands, so my magazine will have equal gender balance and won’t
appeal to one gender.
I predict that EXCLUSIVE magazine’s readership and
the spending powers of for my target audience.
I have to publish the correct date, which is based
on the statistics that I predicted for from the
statistics for Q magazine which is published online.
The reason why I have chosen Q magazine’s
statistics to analyse is because both of the
magazines features similar contents which is
produced.

Font Names Test
God Of War

Manbow
For my music magazine, the masthead/logo will be bold and eye-catching. Therefore, when my music magazine is on the shelves in the
shops, must be easy to read.
My masthead/logo is not similar to my magazine of inspiration Q magazine, as my masthead is one word and across the front cover,
while Q magazine’s is at the left top corner with one letter in a red box. However, my music magazine is more similar to Mojo as the
masthead is across the music magazine. However, the font of my masthead is gold, whilst the Mojo masthead changes between the
colours of black and white.
For my logo I have chosen the font ‘manbow’ from the website “dafront” , which is very easy to read and eye catching. I have chosen
this font for the music magazine because it has a 1950s styles to the font. I did four different tests on “dafront” so I could decide, which
font I should use for my masthead/logo for my music magazine. This is what my font will look like in my music magazine.
House Style Consistency
By looking at different fonts and colours for my music
magazine, I am able to create my front page and also the
double page spread, which has the same colour theme through
my music magazine.
The masthead of my music magazine, “Exclusive” will be
mentioned on all of of pages of my music magazine. As, the
masthead will be at the bottom of the page next to the page
number of the magazine.
When I develop my masthead on Photoshop, I will create the
main logo. I chose to make my colour of the font gold, because
it will make it appealing to my audience , as it is not like the
other music magazine, as the masthead is bold and eye
catching as well as simple.

The reason why I have picked two different fonts for the puff
promotion is because I want my puff promotion to be bold, easy to
read and striking to the audience. It is important to choose the best
font for the puff promotion because the puff promotion will have
exclusive competition or deals in the magazines.
During the process of choosing the fonts and colours for my music
magazine, I chose these specific fonts and colours because I want my
magazine to look like a serious music magazine. My magazine will look
professional and also fun and will be aimed at my target audience, which
is between 15-30 years old.
I have chosen several fonts from “dafont”, which will be included in my
music magazine. All of my fonts are easy to read, as all of the font sizes
will be different, so they can serve the purpose for the music magazine.
Some of the font is used for different techniques for the music magazine.
The “coolvetica” fonts will be used for headlines and the main articles
title for the music magazine. It is important to have the same font in the
magazine because if you have different fonts on the magazine, this could
look cheap and unprofessional. Another font that serves more than one
purpose is “chapaza”, which is used for cover lines ,web address, drop
capital and the stand first. As this will be easy to read, also this font is
simple and bold, which makes this font eye catching.
The primary colour of my music magazine is red and gold. The masthead,
Exclusive will be in gold as the lettering will be in red. The brand identity,
will be at the bottom of every page, there will be a page number in red.
However, the masthead of the music will be at the bottom in gold. This is
similar to my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, as they also mention
the page number and the masthead on each page of my music magazine.
Final Planned Format and Style of
Front Cover
Masthead
The masthead is the top of the magazine page.
This will make the magazine eye-catching and
therefore standout from the shelf in a shop. In
addition, this will gain ‘star appeal’ ( Richard
Dyer), as the people will know and recognise the
magazine. The masthead is gold with a black
outline which is easy for the target audience to
read and as they be interested in the contents of
the magazine.
Main Story
That main story is placed off the right main image.
This is so the audience will know that this magazine
will be mostly about the artist/bands. This will be in
bold so the audience will be attracted to the
magazine, if they are fans of the artist/band.
Moreover, this is under the strapline of the
magazine because you will know that the main story
is important because it is exclusive, just like my
magazine. This will gain star appeal (Richard Dyer) as
people will know who will be featured in the
magazine and therefore buy the magazine because
of the artist and band. They will be interested by
what they have to say about their personal life and
their music career as well.
Puff Promotion
The puff promotion is placed on the top right hand
side. This will appeal to readers as it will feel like that
they are gaining something them the magazine and
therefore buy the magazine for the free gift. The puff
promotion will be in a shape such as a circle because
it will be eyes catching and the target audience will
know where to look for their free gift or they will
know how to enter in a competition.
Barcode
I decided to place the barcode on the
right hand side at the bottom because as
in some of the issues of my magazines of
inspiration e.g. Q magazine. However, the
barcode is above the headline quote. The
barcode on my magazine will tell you
how much the magazine costs and the
date of the magazine release.
Headline Quote
The headline quote is on the left of the main
image above the main headline because this
will be eye catching because it will be in bold.
This could also create feeling in the audience
by the headline quote because by the quote,
you can sense if the interview is going to be
humorous or sad. Therefore the target
audience are able to judge the interview and
the magazine before buying the magazine.
Main Headline
The main headline is at the bottom on left hand side
of the page. It is under the headline quote. This will
gain the ‘star appeal’ ( Richard Byer) as people will
recognise the artists on the front and therefore there
is more chance that they will read the magazine
because they will be interested in what they have to
say. In addition, if they know that their favourite
artist will be included in this issue .
Strapline
I have decided to place the strapline under the
masthead on the right. As, I have decided my
strapline will be “Hear Our Voice”. This is important
because the strapline will be near masthead. This
will be brand identity, as the strapline could be
catchy and well known.
Final Planned Format and Style of
Front Cover House Colour
I have decided my main house colour to
be gold as on my masthead it is gold, to
express celebration and a special
occasion, as buying my magazine, should
be a celebration when buying my music
magazine. In addition, another colour
would be red for my magazine, as it is
bright and bold, so this will appeal to the
reader. Another two colours which will be
featured throughout my magazine, are
black and white as the colours will be
used for the back of the magazine or the
font of the magazine. The house colour
will feature throughout my magazine, as
these colours are the reason why my
music magazine is unique and special for
the music magazine industry.
Cover lines
I have decided to put the cover
lines on the left side of the music
magazine. This will be below the
masthead so this will tell the
audience what will be included in
the music magazine. This will
make the magazine more
important, they can see how
many artists/bands that are to be
included in the magazine. The
target audience will gain star
appeal (Richard Dyer) as this will
tell the target audience what the
magazine will include in this
issue, which will appeal to them.
This action could increase sales
and therefore becoming more
popular and also having a better
reputation within the UK or world
wide.
House Style
During the interview, the font will be in the same size and also have the same font. Moreover, the main story will
be different to create a sense of importance for the reader. In addition, by keeping within these guidelines this will
create a good reputation of a high quality. Therefore, this will increase the sales and create a higher profit for the
music magazine business.
Final Planned Format and Style of Double
Page Spread
Stand First
The stand first will be featured above
the interview because this will be eye
catching for the audience, so they will
know what the interview is about. The
first stand is important as this will
introduce the interview and will
mention basic facts such as name and
age. This is important because the
target audience are able to start to
build a relationship with the artist and
also a mutual understanding of them.
The first stand would be above the
interview.
Main Image
The main image of the article covers
nearly both the pages. The image is
large and therefore it could be eye
catching for the audience, as they can
see their favourite artist on the double
page spread. The picture could create
‘star appeal’(Richard Dyer) for the
audience, so you can get an exclusive
image of the person. Moreover, this
could convey the person's personality,
as they can be seen as more down to
earth.
Pull Quote
I have decide to
place the Pull Quote
on the main picture,
as this will create the
first impression of
the interview and
also you can tell
what tone the
interview will be. The
Pull Quote will be
large and bold, so
this will be eye
catching for the
audience and
encourage them to
read the interview.
Interview
The interview is the main part of the double page spread of the magazine. This is important
because they can read, which the artist/band really think of their music. Moreover, in the
interview you can read some of their stories . The interview can create what the tone of the
double page spread of the magazine, which can create an emotion in the reader, as if the tone of
the interview is sad, the reader may feel the sadness in the interview. However, if the interview
is funny, then the reader may laugh with or at them and also they will feel happy as well. The
interview within the magazine is to appeal to the target audience because they can understand
the artist more as a person and also see what they have to say about their music career so far.
The interview will be in four separate columns at the bottom of the page.
Final Planned Format and Style of
Double Page Spread Caption about other artists/bands
Like my magazine of inspiration, Q
magazine, this will included other
artist/band and to see when their
album release or when their next
concerts start. In addition, this is
added ‘star appeal’ ( Richard Dyer)
because they are featuring well
known and loved artists and also
feature a interview within the
magazine. This will allow the target
audience to get excited when
reading the magazine as they will
know what to expect to find.
Brand Identity
The brand identity is very important,
as this will be included in all of my
pages of the magazine. Moreover,
this will include the masthead, the
page number and also the issue date.
Another, brand identity technique
that I have done for the magazine is
that have use the my masthead and
place it across magazine background.
This is important because this will
have a good effect on of my
magazine . This could suggest that all
of the information and the images
which are on the double page spread
are exclusive to my magazine.
Therefore, no one can use the
information and the image that my
magazine had discovered, designed
and created.
Information about the artist box.
This reason why I have choice to
have the information about the
artist box is because the audience
well know fun facts about them, so
they can create a bond with the
artist and also create their own
option about the artist, so they will
know whether they like them or
not. Moreover, the information
about the artist drop caption could
be use to advertise themselves like
if they have a up and coming
concerts or if they have a albums,
which is going to be release. In
addition within the caption there
are detail about the reason behind
her album and the success of their
single. This box is next to the main
image and the caption about other
artists/bands. Moreover, this box is
also above the interview section.
Article Title and the Sub Title
The article title and the sub title is used on the to introduce the the double page spread. The article
title is used to appeal the target audience to read the rest of the interview as it will state, which artists
will be included in the double page spread. In addition, this will gain ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as as
more more will want to read what their favourite artist or bands have to say about their personal life,
their inspiration and their successful music career. However, the sub title will state a facts about their
music career such as in EXCLSUIVE the magazine’s sub title was “Just Released Forth Album”.
Interview Draft Planning
For the double page spread in my music magazine I will write an interview with the artist, Paloma Faith who will be
featured on my double page spread as she features as the main story and will also feature a headline quote from the
interview, so this will attract the audience to read my music magazine because she is a famous singer and therefore, the
‘star appeal’ will form, as her fans will buy the music magazine because she will be featured in the music magazine.
I have chosen to interview Paloma Faith because she is well known because of her many hits like “Only Love can hurt like
This”, “Upside Down” or “New York”. Moreover, I have chosen Paloma Faith because the genre of her songs are soul, jazz
and pop, this means she specialises in eclectic music, just like my music magazine. In addition, Paloma Faith has a
successful career in the music industry and her song “Changing” is number 1 on the UK singles. Furthermore, she has
won and been nominated for numerous different award ceremonies like the Brit Awards, Glamour Awards and the O2
Silver Clef Awards for her music.
During the interview I will ask her questions about her music career and what artists inspire her for her music and what
inspires her to sing. I will ask about her more about her music.
The interview will be a layout of on the double
page spread. There will be different questions and
different answers for the interview. I have used
format because it is like many of the different
double page spread in Q magazine. So the
audience can understand the format of the
interview in the music magazine.
This is my page of inspiration for the Q
magazine for the October 2015 issue on page
15. As they use different colours for the font,
this will make the writing bolder and easier to
read.
Draft Article - Interview
Interviewer: Hello Paloma. It’s good to meet with you – how are you?
PALOMA: Good to be finally meeting with you, very excited to be here. I’ve been good, thanks.
Interviewer: Congratulation, for winning your first Brits award for British Female Solo Artist this year.
PALOMA: thank you, I was very happy that I finally won a Brits award, after all have been nominated three times and never won a
Brits award before. So, this was very special for me when I won my first Brits award.
Interview: Does fame affect the your day to day life?
PALOMA: No, because I have made a conscious effect to stay with friends, have always had, do the same things and go to the
same places. This is because my friends can’t afford to go to posh or fancy places with me, so I go with them to do cheap and
cheerful things (laugh). So I am so relaxed with my friends, so I’m always forgetting that I am in the public eye. So, when people
ask for a photo with me, I still find it really weird.
Interview: Who is your biggest inspiration?
PALOMA: Well… I would say Etta James. She is a singer between the 50s and 60s. I tell people that she was like a teacher because
I never had any singing lesson as I would copy the style of her vocal. I have been having singing lesson now because I need to
know the techniques to save my voice. Another artist is Billie Holiday and all of the old singers.
Interview: So, you are known for your retro and eccentric style well as voice. So would you explain what you are wearing.
PALOMA: Well, I am wearing everything from the high-street. So the top and the trousers are from H&M. as these shoes are
from New Look. As, the beret is from eBay, they come in lots of colours. When I was an opening act for prince, he did say to me
that I was one of the best dressed people in the music industry at the moment. So that was quite nice.
Interview: So I heard that you done a bit of acting during your career as a singer, What have you been in and have you audition
to do anything else?
PALOMA: Well, my I appeared in one episode of Holby Blue , which is on the BBC. I played a thief. (Laugh) also I was in St Trinian
in 2007 as Andrea who was the Emo. I’ve been in others acting things in was like I was cast in Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctors
Parnassus. I did audition for Kickass 2 but I have never got a call back.
Interview: Talking about your television appearances, I heard you are replacing Rita Ora on the Voice
PALOMA: Yes, I am going to be a coach in the 5th series on the voice. I am very excited about this, as I would be finding new fresh
talents in the UK. This will be a new experience, as its not about acting or singing, but it’s more about being yourself. So I hope
you be watching.
Interview: Don’t worry, I will watch it. I heard a rumour that you have started making your fourth album, as you announce it at
Glastonbury Festival. Can you give anything away.
PALOMA: That is true, I am in the process of making the albums. I’m not going to say anything yet. The song Purple Haze by Jimi
Hendrix did inspire for my fourth album. It’s going to be a surprise. That’s all I'm going to say.
Interview: Can you tell me more about your upbringing and how you started singing.
PALOMA: Well, I have an English mum and Spanish dad, they divorced when I was four years old, so I was raised by my mum. My
mum wanted me to be a dancer, so I would go to dance lesson every week. I did my A-levels at City and Islington College and
then I studied for a degree at Northern School of Contemporary dance for contemporary dance. Then, I was lucky enough to get
into Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design do, I can study for an MA in Theatre Directing. I knew this was a good
opportunity, so I took a lot of part time job like Sales assistant at Agent Provocateur, singer in a burlesque cabaret, a life model
and a magician’s assistant. So I can pay for my education.
Interview: Wow, you have do lots of different part time job. This interview is sadly coming toward the end, what are you
hoping to do in the future?
PALOMA: I want to continue making music, have a career and have a family one day. I also want to travel with my work because I
have done lots in the UK and I have happy with the support I have received. But, I'm not well known around the world, that is my
next aim.
I have created a draft interview, which
featured the famous pop, jazz and soul
signer Paloma Faith. I have created these
questions because of my music magazine,
Q magazine. This is because I have
created a style of magazine, which is
about herself, her music and her fashion
so she will feel comfortable with the
questions.
I know that I couldn’t get a real interview
with Paloma Faith, for my question so I
received my information about Paloma
Faith from previous interviews she as
done from IBM.TV. I Also, got my
information from different website.
Link to the IBM.TV. interview, where I have
receive most of my interview about Paloma
Faith.

Why ? It is easier to edit the background of the white wall rather than having a
pattern background and therefore hard to make the background have the
same background like the magazine of inspiration. In addition, the
photoshoot will be taken at midday because I will able to get the best
lighting for the image.
The photo shoot will be occurring at midday because of the natural light
that can come through into the image, this will mean that the image will
look much more natural because of the lighting. In addition, the reason
why the image will be against a white wall is because it will be easier to
edit or remove the background.

Person/People Nicole Angus Nicole Angus
Why? This photograph needs to show a powerful women on the front cover in
order to appeal to a bigger female target audience. She is wearing black
clothing because she will stand out from the rest . This photo must look
dramatic in order to appeal to the target audience to buy the magazine.
The double page spread will show the model as a powerful women so
that the audience will be interested of what she has to say. Below the
image, their will be the interview that will connect the image to the
interview so that people will be aware of the artist and what she has to
say.
Permission Needed To take the image I have to provide a contract for the model(s) and ask
them to sign the permission form before taking pictures of them. As I
would need their permission use to the pictures. I also have to ask the
guardians to sign the form if the model in under the age of 18.

Potential hazard/Risk The kitchen may have potential risk when doing the photoshoot such as
water on the floor. Knives on the table, the oven could be on and burn
down the house. Also you can break the lens of the camera. Broken glass
could be on the floor. Uneven tiling on the floor could cause falling over.

Location Image
When I am looking for a location that I could photograph
the front cover and the double page spread. I would need
a place that has good lighting for example big windows,
to let in light and also a white wall. So I could edit the
background of the photograph. I have to check the site
for any possible risks to me and the model before taking
the image. In addition I would have to find out if there is
a risk to the camera if I take the image within a location
e.g. floor tiles.
The lighting is an important part of the photo
shoot as it could make the image better as
will be easier to see. This is why I am taking
the image during the day time as the natural
light will come in and therefore improve the
image overall. This is why I am taking the
image in the kitchen, as it meets the need of
the brief because it has a white wall and also
there are three large glass doors that will
allow natural light in.

because it needs time for the magazine to be sent into shops.

Legal and Ethical Issues-Production
Before the magazine would be allowed to be published and released to the public, the magazine has a reasonability to everyone to check for
any legal and ethical issues. This is important as this could cause offensive to some people or the company could get into a legal battle because
they haven’t done the checks before they have released the magazines. There are two main companies that would normally handle complaints
from the public. These companies are called The IPSO (Independent Press Standards Organisation) and ASA ( Advertising Standards Authority).
These companies are only used in the UK.
Legal Issues
Copyright- this is a type of intellectual property, which will
allow a print, publish, film, music or something have a legal
right or exclusivity to a person or a company. This means if
anyone uses the material without permission, then the
person or the company have the legal right to sue them. This
is important because if a person or company use the item
without copyright and haven’t asked to use the product, they
will breaking the copyright laws and therefore they could face
criminal charges such as paying an expensive fine. This is why
it is important to gain the permission from the owners before
using the item.
Privacy- Everyone should be able to have privacy within their
life, this is why it is important for the Editors not to be able to
publish anything before the person/people give them consent
before hand. This is why people are not allow to take pictures
of the a person/ people in public or within a private place
without their consent to do so. This is why the magazine
needs to gain permission from the people that they want to
be in their magazine before taking a photo of them.
Seditous Libel- Seditous Libel is when something has been
written that could seem to be offensive or to challenge the
views of the government. This could damage the reputation
of the government and therefore it could make them look less
respectable or less powerful.
Criminal Libel- Criminal Libel is when someone publishes,
spoken or written statement about person/ people that could
damage their reputation or image of person. This is important
as these allegations could stick with them for life and
therefore it could ruin their life and stop them getting jobs.
Ethical Issues
Discrimination- the definition of discrimination is when the someone is treated
different because of their race, ethnicity, gender, class, disability and someone
who has any physical or metal health. This means a person’s race, ethnicity,
gender, class, disability and someone who have any physical or metal health
must not be included within the articles unless it relates to the story .
Children- When people are taking pictures of children for a brand, there are
some regulation that they have to follow. The children must be able to do their
normal school hours before taking part in a photographic session.
Moreover, children who are under 16 are not allow to be interviewed or
photographed without their parents or guardians consents. The editors are not
allowed to use materials of the children that the parents or the guardians are
not happy with. In addition, the editors are not allowed to release any
information about the child’s private life .
Accuracy- the information that is released to the publication must be accurate.
The information must not have any misleading information in the article. This
could include images, information and interviews . In addition, the headline
must support the test in the article or interview as this could be misleading to
the readers. However, if something has been released with a misleading
statement or information to the public, the publication must correct their
mistake. Therefore, the publisher must handle the situation properly by
releasing a public apology to the person. This could mean that they wouldn’t be
allowed to publish potential facts or potential rumours to the public.
Harassment- to gain the information, the journalists are not allow to intimidate,
harass or keep in pursuit the person/ people for information. The journalists
are not allow to keep on questioning, ringing or take pictures of the person
when the person said to keep away from them. They are not able to stay on
their property when they have asked them to go away when the journalists want
some information. This is why the editors must make sure that these regulation
are enforced and therefore this will mean that these materials are not from
harassment but from people who are willing to give the journalists the
information.

Legal and Ethical Issues
Contract Challenges:
When a contract about copyright has been made and
signed, it is not allowed to be broken or reorganised. This
will mean that the company will have their own the logo of
their company and also they are allowed to make different
changes to the magazine legally. If the magazine want to
make any changes to the logo or the information in the
magazine, they will be in legal trouble as they have broken
the contract. The reason why the magazine will be in legal
trouble is the magazine has plagiarised the company’s
work.
Copyright
The company will have to conduct research into several
legal areas before creating their magazine. This is
important as they wouldn’t want to be in legal trouble
when using contents or images, which were copyright
but didn’t know about it . We would have to gain
permission from the founder or the inventors of the
images or information to ask if the magazine are allow to
use it. This is why the magazine will have to contact them
in order to attempt to get their permission. If this process
does not happen, the magazine could face legal action
such as a fine which will be between £5,000 to £50,000.
This is why is it important to gain the permission from
the founder and the inventors and also prove that the
permission have be gained by making them sign a
contract.
Privacy
When publishing a magazine , it is important to follow the regulations
which will ensure the people’s personal information and data such as
their telephone number or their home address won’t be published to the
public. This is why it is essential for the magazine to protect the
person/people’s identity so that they couldn’t be viewed in a negative
light and therefore damage their reputation. This would be a legal issue
as the magazine shouldn’t be allowed to release any information that is
private to the person/people.
In addition, when subscribing to a magazine such as Q magazine, the
consumer will have to put in their personal detail such as their bank
account into the system. The company will know their personal details
and their banking details, which have to be protected. If the consumers’
details are not protected, other people could steal money from the
consumers and therefore the trust between the magazine company and
their consumer will be broken. This could cause a decrease profit as less
people will trust the magazine to subscribe online to their magazine.
Overall, it is important to consider the contract
challenges, privacy and copyright when creating my
magazine. This is important as if I don’t follow these
legal and ethical issues, this could affect the
magazine’s reputation, the consumer’s lives and also
affect the businesses’ financial state when creating
the magazine and paying off the fines.
This is why all of the content and images that are
included in the magazine will be made from our own
or will gain permission from the founder and make
them sign a contract before publishing the magazine
with the copyright content and image in. My magazine
will also gain copyright on their own content and
images that will be included in the magazine. One
example of where my magazine will apply copyright is
on my masthead as no other company are allow to
use it without my magazines permission .
Press Complaints Commission
When I was creating the magazine, I read through the Editors’ Code of Practice , which helped
me to ensure my magazine was to a professional standard. This is way my magazine has ‘sets
the framework for the highest professional standards’. This will highlight that if my magazine
is made to this standard, I will attract more readership to my magazine and therefore it will
be recognised within the UK and globally. Our readers, will expect that the magazine will have
accurate and also high quality information. Also they will expect our magazine to guarantee
them a good experience when reading our magazine.
Press Complaints Commission
During the creation and the designed of my magazine, the Editors’ Code
will be the main force as, it will guide us when gaining or publishing
information to the general public. Some of the Editors’ Code that the
magazine must follow is on the left hand side. The editor of the magazine
will check through all of the information on the magazine and check it has
followed the code before it is released to the public. If any information
didn’t follow the Editors’ Code, the Editor must change the information so
that it will fit within the guideline of the Editors’ Code. The Editors’ Code is
used as a guideline for the editors as it will enable them to check their
information against the code before allowing it to be released to the
public.
If the public want to complain about the magazine, they are able to go
through IPSO (Independent Press Standards Organisation), so that the
IPSO will be able to see if the magazine has broken the guideline for the
Editors’ Code.

will be highlighted

Press Complaints Commission
During the creation and design of the magazine, the
editor must check for accuracy. They will check
through all the content within the magazine, so that
it wouldn’t display or release any information that is
untrue for the public to read. They will check through
all of the front cover and the double page spread so
that it wouldn’t display any ‘inaccurate, misleading or
distorted information or images, including headlines
not supported by the text.’ It is important for the
editor.
Press Complaints Commission
To confirm that the first issue of my magazine will be accurate the editor
will check all of the information that is contained in the magazine. This is
important as the editors will check all of the potential information that
could be released to the public. The editor will check all of the words in the
magazine for the correct spelling such as the person name being featured
in the magazine. If the spellings are not correct, this will make the
magazine seem unprofessional to the general public and therefore less
people will want to buy the magazine. This will mean that if the magazine is
unprofessional less people will want to buy the magazine as the
information will be full of spelling and grammar mistakes, which will make
it harder for the reader to read through the magazine as they wouldn’t
understand the content of the magazine. In addition, when finding out
information the sources must be checked before releasing the article to the
public. The editor will check all of the sources the information came from
so that they will know that all of the information will be accurate and also
check if the sources are real and not from fake sources. This is why the
editor will check the sources where the information came from so that
they will know if the information is real before releasing anything to the
magazine that could damage the magazines reputation once a complaint
that has occurred.
Press Complaints Commission
During the process of designing my magazine, I have to make
sure that nothing in my magazine will discriminate against
someone’s ‘race, colour, religion, gender identity, sexual
orientation, physical or mental illness or disability’ . To
mention these within an article, could be offensive some
people, which could lead to a decrease of readership within a
magazine or for the magazine to pay a fine. In addition, my
magazine will check for any pictures that could be offensive to
other people and therefore not producing an accurate image for
the customer. This is why the editor will check for any images
and information that will discriminate against people and
therefore make people stop reading the magazine. In addition, if
this task is not followed through, this will be breaking the
Editors’ code and therefore it could lead to the magazine
company paying a fine.
Press Complaints Commission
To conform the first issue of my magazine will not discriminate
against any one because of the person’s race, colour, religion,
gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or
disability. This is important as this will damage and even ruin my
magazine’s reputation as it will discriminate against people’s. The
magazine will not use any images that will discriminate and
suggest any opinions the readers be will offended by. The editor
of my magazine will check through all of images to check if these
images are offensive to other people. To avoid discrimination for
the first issue of my magazine, their was be no offensive
languages or images used that will discriminate against a person
or people because of their race, colour, religion, gender identity,
sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability.
Advertising discrimination in the magazine, could lead to a
complaint through the Press Complaints Commission. A website
stores all of the complaints that are made through this website.
Anyone can look through all of the complaints that were made
by people against my magazine. Anyone can look at the reasons
of a complaint and therefore judge this for themselves. This
could decrease in the sales of the magazine because of the
magazines wrongdoing of discrimination.
Press Complaints Commission
When I created and designed my music magazine, I needed to check if I have
all of the information and pictures in my magazine have permission to
publish the pictures and the information to the public. One way that I made
sure that I have permission to release the information and pictures to the
public, so was to design a contract and have it signed to enable my magazine
to release it. The consent form will have to be signed before any interview
and photo shoot are able to take place. If these rules are not followed
through, this will be breaking the Editors’ Code and therefore the magazine
may get in trouble, which could lead the magazine going to court and paying
a big fine. There are screenshot to reveal that my models have accepted the
terms and conditions that were made for the photo shot.
Sending the email

Receiving an email from
the model
Press Complaints Commission
To conform that the first issue of my magazine will ensure
the privacy of the models on the magazine to the artists
and bands that will feature in the magazine. The magazine
should respect the artists and bands’ privacy so that they
respect the magazine as a modern music magazine. My
magazine will respect the artists and bands’ privacy as they
may not want to be featured in the magazine if their privacy
is not respected. If the magazine released personal images
and information that is private, they may not want to be
featured in the magazine as they will not trust the magazine
not to print private information and images of them
without gaining their permission. In addition, when
featuring models on the magazine it is important to make
them to sign a permission form so that my magazine will
not to receive any legal trouble once they decide how they
have been portrayed in the magazine. The magazine will
not be breaking any laws as the model would have signed
the contract before the magazine used the model featured
in the magazine.
Legal and Ethical Issues – How to make
a complaint
Complaints Procedure:
1. Initial assessment – When the complaint has been received, the complaint will be

2. Referral to the publication - Once, it has been determined that the complaint has
breached one of the codes , IPSO will send the complaint to the head of the

One the left hand side, there are screen shot of the form from IPSO official website. This is
important as the person are able to give all of the information about their complaint and
also the reasoning behind their complaint. The person will have to give detail about the
complaint such as the publication name, the date of the article and also the reason of the
complaint. When the information about the complaint is done, the person will haven to go
on another page about the complaint and see, which Editors’ code the publication has
breached. Afterward, the form will be sent off to IPSO who then will start with the first
process of the initial assessment.
Complaint Case Study
People will have the right to complain to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC)
when they feel like that the Editors' Code of Practice have been breach . This is
important as complaint will be investigative further and therefore the complaint
will be resolved.

mirror-newspaper-may-31st-2014
One way that a famous newspaper have breach the Editors'
Code of Practice is when they have published two images on
their paper and online form at a private event. This is
important as the Daily Mirror published two images of HRH
Prince Henry of Wales and his then girlfriend Cressida Bonas
when they were at Royal Albert Hall during a private event. The
photographs were taken by a member of the audience and
then use the image for social media. This mean that they didn’t
expect to be photograph as the event were private and also
didn’t expect these pictures to be used on the newspaper. This
mean that the Daily Mirror has breach Clause 3 (Privacy) of the
Editors' Code of Practice, as the images was not take in a
control environment and also it was not taken within a places
where they thought they want take photographs in. the reason
why the images was taken is because Prince Harry is apart of
most famous family in the world (the British Royal Family),
which mean that he will always attract the media attention and
therefore magazines or newspapers will do anything in order
get a pictures of him to use so that their publication will be
more popular within the public.
As a result of their complaint the Daily Mirror removed the two images with the content of the articles as well from the Daily Mirror’s official. In
addition, Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas received a public apology from the Daily Mirror from their website and also from their printed
formed of the newspaper. The statement that the Daily Mirror have received to the public about their mistake are ‘On 14 February 2014 we
published in the paper and online two photographs of Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas, taken by audience members and put up on social media
whilst they were attending a performance at the Royal Albert Hall. We accept that the event was private and apologise to them both for
publishing the photographs.’ This mean that the Daily Mirror has accepted responsible from their mistake.
Complaint Case Study
Example of when a Celebrities complaint through the
Press Complaints Commission is when Katie Price and
Peter Andre complaint about Heat Magazine after they
have made fun of Katie Price’s disabled son, Harvey.
This is important as Harvey suffer with a rare condition
called septo-optic dysplasia and some of septo-optic
dysplasia are blindness, growth hormone deficiency and
it will cause him to gain weight. Heat magazine breach
the Editors’ Code the Clause 6 (Children) and Clause 12
(Discrimination). This is important as the content of the
information involved a child to be viewed in a negative
way and also the information was discriminate against is
disability and also the affect that it will have on him.
This is important as Harvey Price didn’t chose to be
famous as he come from a famous family and therefore
he didn’t chose to be targeted for negative publicity
because of his disability . This is important as Heat
magazine produce a 50 free stickers of an image of
Harvey’s face and a speech bubble , which have stated
“Harvey wants to eat me!”. This mean that Heat
magazine discriminated against Harvey because of the
effect of septo-optic dysplasia have on him as a child.

Celebrities will have a right to complaint through the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) in order for
their problem to be solved and therefore their complain will resolved through the correct process in
order to make both party happy with the outcome.
Heat magazine received 100-150 complaint to PCC over the stickers that they created included from Katie Price and Peter Andre. When their were
investigation into the matter, it was concluded that Heat magazine breach Clause 6 (Children) and Clause 12 (Discrimination) of the Editors’ Code . This means
that Heat magazine discriminated against vulnerable child as they are body shaming a child, who couldn’t help his weight. The resolved of the Heat
magazine’s mistake is they have publicly apologise to Harvey, Katie and Peter for their mistake and also any ‘embarrassment and distress caused’ by
publishing an apology, which have the heading of ‘Harvey- sorry’. In addition, Heat magazine decided to donated money to a charity that Katie and her family
is apart for years. The charity is called The Vision Charity.
Question 1
These set of results is presented
in the chart. This highlights the
target audience may be
females, however this is
opposite than Q magazine
readership. This suggests that I
have asked more females than
male, which could be a bit bias.
This could shows the gender
readership for my music
magazine as more females has
filled out my music magazine
than males.
Question 2
These set of results will
reveal the target audience
of the age range. The main
age range for the readership
is 14-16, as I have asked
more people between the
14-16 because I have ask
more people between the
age range. This is important
because my magazine can
targeted at the younger
target audience, so I can
created a magazine, which is
designed for that specific
target audience.
Question 3
This set of results can determine
the most popular genre for my
target audience. The most
popular genre for my music
magazine is pop music. As, my
music magazine will have a
electric of genre for my music
magazine. This mean that my
magazine will involve pop. Even so
I haven't done have R&B as one of
the choice for the question,
someone choice other and then
mention R&B. this means that I
will mention R&B artists in my
magazine as well as pop, rock and
indies artists and bands.
Question 4
All of my target audience reveal that
they will be willing to buy a magazine
between £2-£3. This is important
because stereotypically students will
not have enough money to buy a
music magazine over £3 as it is
deemed quite expensive. However all
magazines that have a monthly
frequency are over £3 because they
have more content inside the
magazine and therefore its more
expensive. So I cannot meet with the
target audience request of a cheap
monthly music magazine because my
magazine will be made in a high
quality.
Question 5
This sets of results reveal that
most of my target audience
never brought a music
magazine. However, the target
audience who do buy music
magazines, would mostly buy
their music magazine monthly.
Also there is an equal amount
of people who do buy the
magazines weekly and
fortnightly.
Question 6
The set of results from my target
audience reveals that they would
prefer to read an interview from an
artist than anything else. Equally,
some of my target audience will like
to look at pictures and
advertisement in the music
magazine. As well as one of my
target audience will like to articles
and artist information. However, no
one would like to read about he
music awards. This is important
their need to be a main features in
my magazine and I also need to
know what my target audience
enjoy to read.
Question 7
The set of results will determine
how is the best way to market my
new music magazine. Most of my
target audience thought that social
media is the best way to market a
new magazine, as most teenagers
use social media and therefore it
will be easier to advertise the a
new magazine. However, no
thought that the word of the
mouth is not a good way to
advertise a new magazine, even so
in the past the word of mouth will
be the best way to advertise a
magazine.
Question 8
Most of my target audience will
buy a music magazine because
a free gift, as they may seem
that they are gaining something
if they buy a magazine. Some
people may buy a magazine if
the free gift good enough and
not something bad. Only one
person will not buy a music
magazine because of a music
magazine.
Question 9
The results on the chart reveal
that the most popular free gift for
my target audience will be
concerts tickets discount voucher.
This could be because most of the
teenagers will prefer to go to a
concert and hear live music.
However some of the target
audience will like to get earphone
or headphone free in the
magazine so they can listen to
their music. Equally amount of
people will like to receive signed
autograph from the artist and
band and a CD. One person will
like to receive a free T- Shirt from
the magazine.
Question 10
By looking at the set of results,
there are more people who never
subscribed to the magazine than
have. This could seem like more
people go the the shop than
subscribed yearly to the
magazine. This is important
because if you subscribed to a
magazine and then go bored of
the magazine, you can not stop
the magazine of coming monthly
and get you money back, unlike if
you don’t have a subscribe to the
magazine and buy the magazine
monthly, you can stop buying the
magazine anytime if they are
bored of the magazine.
Interview Analysis
Before I have created and designed my double page spread I will need
to create an interview. This is important as I will need to create an
interview that will be appealing to my indented target audience. This is
important as I will know what the audience will enjoy reading or what
they will find interesting within a magazine magazine.
I have decided to created to a Survey Monkey and sent the survey to
my indented target audience. This is important as I will be receive
qualitative data from their responded so that I will be able to adapt
their views onto my double page spread and also the interview.
During the Survey Monkey I have asked three simple so that I will be
able to gain feedback from these questions so that I will be able to
know what their responded are and therefore writ down their
responded.
Questions from the survey:
1. What content would you like to read about in a
music magazine ?
2. What you prefer if the content of the music
magazine is online or not?
3. Do you think it is better if the magazine would
released weekly or monthly

  • 4. Mind Map 1) Generation of ideas Masthead Name Masthead Name • Eclectic Music (EM) • Tunes • Hear • Voice • V • Music (M) • Exclusive • Exclusive Music Colour ThemePrice Strapline Brand Identity Image Frequency of Release Target Audience Strapline • Hear Our Voice • The Music Magazine of the World • Exclusive music • World famous Music Magazine • Explore the World of Music. Frequency of Release This music magazine will be released monthly as this magazine will contain more information than a weekly music magazine and this magazine will be more expensive. Price The price of the magazine is £4.20, is released monthly and therefore there will be more content in the magazine . This will make the audience feel as if the magazine is more exclusive than the weekly music magazine. This is the same price as my magazine of inspiration of Q magazine. Brand Identity On the right hand corner of the magazine is my logo and the issue number, which will be repeated as brand Identity. In addition, there will be some mention of synergy with the social media account, which my magazine will have. Genre Image There will be the main image on the front cover of the magazine. The artist mentioned will be famous or upcoming. This will have different eclectic music and therefore there will be an eclectic artist mentioned on the front cover of the magazine. The image will be a mid-shot of the artist, the mid-shot will include their facial expression, body language and quotes from their interview. Genre My music magazine will have this gerne of eclectic of music. The content of my music magazine will be like Q magazine. This is important because my music magazine will educate the younger target audience about the older style of music such as Queen and David Bowie, while the music magazine will educate the older target audience about music of today like Kanye West or Sam Smith, so they will understand more about the 21st century music cultural. Colour Theme The colour scheme of the magazine is red, black, white and maybe gold on the masthead, so this will suggest that buying our magazine is a special occasion and a celebration. I have chose these colours for the music magazine as they are eye-catching for the target audience. The masthead will be similar to Mojo magazine. However the main colour of the magazine will be black and white.Target Audience My music magazine will have the target audience between the ages of 15-30 year old, as the content of my music magazine will have the genre of eclectic music. The statistics of Q magazine is where I have based my idea. Also Q magazine reveal that most of the music magazine highest target audience come from the teenagers 15-24. Moreover, the front cover of my music magazine will feature artist that the different age range will known and like. Also someone in the magazine that males and females will appeal to, so both gender will buy the music magazine. The socio-economic needs of my audience will be in the D and E of the chart. This is important because this will included students, they will have a bigger interest in music and may want to know more about the past famous music artists like David Bowie.
  • 5.
  • 6. Mood Board I have chosen this font for my music magazine because this is simple and bold. Also this font is easy to read for my target audience. I want to include old style of music like the Beatles so this will appeal to the older target audience, so they will buy and music magazine and therefore my music magazine will be more popular. In addition, the old style of music could teach the younger audience, how much music has changed over a period of time and teach them more about the music industry. As well as including an old style of music, I also want to include contemporary music like Kayne West as this could appeal to the younger target audience. This could also teach them about the modern day music industry and want talent you need to be in the music industry. The colour wheel will help me decide what colour I should include in my music magazine. In addition, this will help me because I know what colour is best suited for each other. This picture of Bjork denotes that I want my music magazine to be bright, bold and unique. I also want my music magazine to be as colourful as this, which I hope will be eye catching for the target audience. This is the symbol for Facebook. This reveals that my music magazine will on social magazine to keep close with the target audience, as they can see my music magazine daily update.
  • 7. Mind Map 2) Generation of ideas Masthead Name Colour ThemePrice Strapline Brand Identity Image Frequency of Release Target Audience Genre Colour Theme I have decided the colour theme for my magazine will be black and white, as both of the colours can be used for the font and also the background. Moreover, the primary colour of the magazine is red, as red is a bold and bright colour. In addition, I will have the colour gold as the font. Moreover, my magazine will included the colour blue, as both of the colour are fresh and clean. This mean that they will stand out because both of the colours are bright. Price The price of the magazine will be £4.20 like my magazine of inspiration , Q magazine, this is because my music magazine frequency will be monthly, therefore my music magazine will contain more information, than a cheaper and a weekly magazine. Masthead Name • Eclectic Music (EM) • Vocal • Melody • Volume • Music (M) • Exclusive • Harmony • E Strapline • Explore the Life of Music • Life of Music • Exclusive music • World famous Music Magazine • Discover Great Music Genre Like my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine. The genre of my music magazine will be eclectic. This is important because, with a eclectic genre, this will be more interesting to read or to look at pictures from the past. Moreover, the reason why I have chose an eclectic genre for my magazine is because you will attract a different target audience and also people who like different style of music to read. Another magazine, which I have researched is NME, who have a similar genre than Q magazine Frequency of Release My music magazine will be released monthly because there will be more content in the music magazine. Moreover, you can tell that the frequency of release is monthly because on the barcode it will have the release date on it. Image There will be a main image on the front cover of the magazine. The artist will be famous or an upcoming artist that will be mentioned. This will have different eclectic music and therefore there will be an eclectic range of artists mentioned on or in the front cover of the magazine. The image will be a mid-shot of the artist, the mid-shot will include, their facial expression, body language and quotes they have said from the interview. Brand Identity On the corner of the right hand side of the magazine, there will be my logo and the issue number, which will be repeated as brand Identity. Moreover, by the brand identity you can associated with the music magazine. Target Audience My music magazine will have the target audience between the ages of 15-30 year old, as the content of my music magazine will have the genre of eclectic music. The statistics of Q magazine is where I have based my idea. Also Q magazine reveal that most of the music magazine highest target audience come from the teenagers 15-24. Moreover, the front cover of my music magazine will feature artists that the different age range will know and like. Also someone in the magazine that will appeal to females to encourage them to buy the music magazine. However, males can buy the magazine as well. The socio-economic need of my music magazine will be D and E for the students and the young adult, they will be exploring their music interests, and also exploring different artists or bands that they may not heard off before. Moreover, the price of the music magazine is cheap, as they buy the magazine monthly, which could be in their budget of living.
  • 8.
  • 9. Mood Board 2) This is the symbol for twitter, a social media website. This will inform us that my music magazine will be on social media, which means the audience can subscribe to the magazine to hear about the latest gossip or news about my music magazine. This is an example of a masthead for a music magazine. This connotes that my masthead will be similar to Mojo masthead, as its spell out the name of the music magazine. The colours will contain hidden meanings that will be eye catching for my target audience. This is a style which I will want for my music magazine, as this is simple and bold. Moreover, this font is easy to read, so my audience can read the the title of the magazine easily. This is a picture of a modern day artist, Ellie Goulding. As this picture will attract the younger audience to read this music magazine. Moreover, the older audience will know what the younger audience is interested in and therefore, they can compare how music has changed. This is a picture of the Rolling Stones, to attract the older audience to my music magazine. This is important because they can read about singers/bands from their childhood and also enjoy reading them.
  • 10. Front Cover The denotation of the strapline line for Q magazine is “The World’s Greatest Music Magazine. This suggests that this magazine has an eclectic mix of music for all generations to read as this magazine is made with the best quality for the reader. The use of the word “World's” convey that the magazine is a success and is a global magazine. This could also denote that the magazine is so popular that it is sold globally. The superlative “greatest” suggests that the Q magazine is made to a high quality, it is one of a kind and you can’t get the same information about music is another magazine. The masthead of the magazine is eye-catching, simple and bold. The letter “Q” on the masthead suggests that this is a mature magazine because of the front of the “Q”. The masthead is bold and stands out. The red background is eye catching and bright, this could suggest that this is a powerful magazine because the red symbolises power and this will give you the exclusive information and you are able to explore different genres of music. In addition, the white contrasts with the red background, making the white letters bold and easier on the eye for the target audience. The main image of Amy Winehouse is on the cover of Q magazine. Her facial expression is neutral, which could convey that this is the end of her impact of music, a year after she died. This could bring out an emotion from the audience as she died and therefore stopped creating music. In addition, the audience can see her tattoos of the two red and black hearts, the red could represent her love for music and the black could represent her drug addiction and how her life ended so tragically . The barcode, issue date and price, will inform the audience of the magazine’s price and the issue date of the magazine. The headline of the magazine is “exclusive Amy Winehouse tribute CD” this means the audience can read and listen to her best song in her time alive like Rehab or Back and Black. The inside features in the red box, is the exclusive of which articles will be mentioned in the magazine, this show s different artist s mentioned in the magazine and how they attract different age range of audiences like Rizzle kicks and Maroon 5 for the teenagers and Stewart Lee for adults. Coverlines/Pull-quote is used to attract the audience. Red and white have been chosen as the colour theme for this issue of the magazine. This could be because the letters are more eye-catching for the audience, which could contrast against the dark, dull, grey. The background of Amy Winehouse could be a white door, where there is no light which make the door look grey. This could represent her life ending and also the ending of her music. This could express an emotion of sadness, loss of someone who have changed the music industry forever by her voice. The door could represent a talented young woman walking out of our lives as the alcohol and drug addiction took over her life. On the other hand, this could convey that the alcohol and the drugs entered her life and led to her death. The door could represent the duality of her life, her love of music and enjoyment of entertaining her fans and the darkness of her addictions which happened behind closed doors. The main cover of the magazine is “Amy” in capital letters to emphasise that it’s been a year since she died. This could attract the audience to buy this magazine as she is still famous and still well known for her music, even after she died and people may want to know more about her life and her death. The name “Amy” is in large white writing so this can contrast the white and grey so the letter can be more eye catching for the audience.
  • 11. Double Page Spread Analysing The drop capital is to attract the audience to read about Elle Goulding’s albums and learn fun facts about her albums and rumours about her songs. Also, it named the producers, the release date, where the albums were recorded and tracks on the drop capital. The technical code of the medium shot on the double page spread focuses on Ellie Goulding . The photograph of Ellie Goulding is taken with a medium shot, as her hands are over her headphone. This could suggest that music is really important to her as in the background, she is in the recording studio planning one of her many hits. Her face shows high concentration, which implies that she wants to make the best music possible. She has chosen to wear black clothing instead of bright coloured clothing which suggests she could be trying to rip off her good girl image and become more rebellious . This implies that as she is changing, also her music will change. On the left of the image there is a pull quote which is in bold white capital letters. This is accompanied by a specific quote that was included from the interview. The pull quote from Q “Hear Me Roar” conveys that we haven’t heard the best of Ellie Goulding yet. In addition, this could suggest that she was never number one on the music magazine in the past and is determined to achieve that position now and she won’t be second best without a fight, as she is the number one female artist for Q. The stand first on the double page spread is below the pull quote as her name is highlighted in yellow to ensure the she actually said that to Q . It is also eye-catching to the audience so they can quickly read her threat to the music industry as she will become a global artist. In addition, the quote is in red with the rest of the interview text in black. Also the front is bold in colour and eye-catching for the reader who will be drawn to read this quote. Having another drop capital in pale yellow about the next albums of other artists such as CeeLo Cool, Wilko Johnson or Deadmaus, suggests that all of these artists mentioned are her rivals in the music industry. During the double page spread the focus is on Ellie Goulding as the public eye is on her as she is the up and coming artists and her album will change her clean image and also the audience will have high expectations for this album because she has put all of her energy and power into the new albums. She has expressed some emotive phrases that will keep the readers wondering about her new attitude to her music.
  • 12. Contents Analysis The sub line of the magazine summarise the artist, interviews and also the page number of the review, which is called the Q Review, suggesting that writers interview the artist and what they have done or write a review of what they have done. On the right side of the magazine the Q logo can be found along with the issue date of the magazine. On the content page the page number anchors the main picture of the artist and directs the audience to read the story about their favourite artists. In addition, below the page number there is a summary of what the artist has achieved or facts about them so the audience can understand them more as the person than a celebrity. On the main picture of U2 on the content page, they a flash which stated “Cover Story” this suggests that they are the main focus of this issue of Q, therefore this will attract the audience to read the interview of one of the most famous band in the world. The masthead of this issue of Q stated the name of the content page, the logo of Q and the issue date. This will inform the reader what page this is so they can find different sections of the magazine they want to read. For instance, if they want to read about 50 Cent and his music and business, they can refer to the content page. This Logo is a type of branding advertisement to letting the reader know that they are reading Q magazine. The logo also refers to the issue number of the magazine because this will let the audience know if they have read the recent issue of Q or not, so they can buy the newest Q magazine if they don’t have the newest issue of Q. In addition, some people collect magazines so the collector can buy Q to add to their collection so that they can prove that they have every single issue of Q.
  • 13. Genre Q magazine Q magazine has a variety of different genres of music. Evidence of the eclectic music in the magazine is on their homepage where there are exclusive images and songs of Paul McCartney in 1981, which premieres a remix of his song Tug of War, which is rock and pop genre music. Also, further down the homepage, there is an article about 50 Cents, who are a modern hip hop music. Also in the magazine, there are different examples of artists who all have a different genre of music such as Amy Winehouse the year after she died, Cheryl Cole and David Bowie . The magazine is supported by the demographics of the Q magazine. As all age ranges do read the magazine because of the eclectic range of articles . The highest percentage of people who read Q magazine is male between the ages of 15-24 , as they would be interested in different generation of music, like U2 or David Bowie. So they can explore their music interest.
  • 14. Front Cover Layout of the Magazine The appealing aspect of the front cover are the main image. This is because the main image will create ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) so that more people will buy the magazine because of the music artists who is on the front cover. Therefore, if Q get a well known and liked music artist on the front cover, it will most likely cause an increase of in sales as the audience will recognise the artists. However, the text around the image such as the masthead, main headline and coverline, will meet the theory of inform and educate (Katz), as this will enable the reader to gain information and knowledge about the contents of the magazine. This could help and create ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as the reader will know which music artist or band will be included within the magazine. Therefore it will help to build a personal relationship (Katz)with the artists and bands because of the information that they can find out. Some of the less important text should be positioned in a way that it doesn’t take away any of the ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) from the artist or the magazine’s content. If the ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) is taken away, it could cause less people being interested within the magazine and therefore cause a decrease in sales for the magazine. During the planning of the front cover of my magazine, I decided where the images and the text should go so that I will be able to gain ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) it will encourage more readers and increase popularity in my magazine and therefore potentially increase the monthly sales. Firstly, I created a hand drawn draft and also graphic layout so that I am able to test the different positions of the image and text so that I will know will gain the most ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) . The way that I have made the front cover to look more professional is by using Photoshop CS6 . The software will enable me to edit any images and also to create new features, which look professional as well. Another way that I am planning to create ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) for my magazine and a feature that sometime Q magazine will included is a puff promotion. This is a way to gain more audience to the magazine as it will feel like that they are gaining more when they buy the magazine. Q magazine do not normally use a puff promotion, which could cause them to lose out on readers, by having a free gift you could entice someone with purchase Q magazine who will then become a regular reader. In the May 2005 with the issue number of 226, Q magazine advertised a free CD included with the magazine. The caption about the puff promotion was “ FREE CD! 15 great British Tracks” this will gain ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as the words “ FREE CD!” are in red and bold so it will be eye catching for the reader to see. Also they used patriotic language when using the word ‘British’ so that people might buy the magazine because of all of the British songs that will be included in the CD. The puff promotion could cause the magazine to gain higher subscription and therefore readership because of the puff promotion. I have decided to use a puff promotion on my front cover of my magazine as it could help the readers notice my magazine. Therefore make them want to find out more about my magazine and what it stands for. This could increase the subscription and readership of my magazine because of the different puff promotion that will be featuring in my magazine.
  • 15. DPS Layout of the Magazine Q magazine have a different layout for their double page spread but their traditional double page spread are one page which will include the interview and an image of the artist or band that was included in the interview. The large image of the artist or band will gain ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as there is no text that overlaps the image and therefore the reader will be able to clearly see the image of the artist. However, I have decided to ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale – 1980) the format of the double page spread of the magazine October 2015 with issue number 351 of Q magazine as it will gain the readers’ interest because of the variety of of images and text that will be included in my magazine. Therefore, the reader will also be gaining inform and educate (Katz) because of the interview and also the different text boxes that will included on the double page spread. Other features that will be included in the double page spread will be quotes from the interview. This will create ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as it will encourage the readers to read the rest of the interview because they are able to gather the tone of the text such funny or sad. I will use Photoshop CS6 to make my double page spread look professional and accurate so that out magazine will have a good reputation and able to compete against other rival magazines. This is important as I will be able to create text boxes to be the same size and on the same line. In addition, I will be able to edit my main image so that it will look professional and therefore gain ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) among the readers.
  • 16. Style of the Magazine I have different research and created a mood board in order to help know what style my magazine should be. I would need a style that will appeal to my intended target audiences. I have decided on the colour scheme of my magazine, the colours that will be used are red, gold, black and white. The reason why I have chosen these colours are because they will help to make the magazine standout and also it will catch the readers’ interest. These colours will highlight the important part of the magazine and therefore reveal how exclusive the contents are. To make sure that I have made the colour the exactly the same throughout my magazine I will have saved the colour swatches so that I will always have easy access to the colour. This is important as the colour gold is a colour that will have to be made on the colour picker. This means that I am able to find the shade of colour that I want to use and then save the colour to my swatches. In addition, I sometimes use the Eye Dropper tool so that I will be able to find the exact colour quickly. Eye DropperSwatches Colour Swatch Name Colour Picker
  • 17. Magazine Flat Plan This is the flat plan for my first music magazine. The red number represent which page will be mentioned in the music magazine. I have made 60 page because the frequency of the magazine is monthly and therefore need more pages than a weekly or fortnightly magazine. This is where my double page spread will be display on my magazine
  • 18. Spending Power • The statistics of the readership of Q magazine reveals that ages between 15- 24 as the age range that read Q magazine the most. • Therefore I predict that people between the ages of 15-24 will read EXCLUSIVE magazine as both of the magazines will feature different genre of artists and bands. • The Hartley’s seven subjective and age, gender, class, self image, nationality, family and ethnicity is reference when looking at the statistic of the age range of the readership of the magazines and the spending power. • The spending power would be similar to Q magazine, as the ABC1 is 70% of readership to Q magazine. • This reveals that the readership of a magazine would have to earn a high income and therefore can afford to buy Q magazine monthly. • I could predict that people would be able to buy a more expensive magazine, which could have a higher quality contents. • However, the statistics for the gender ratio for Q magazine is that a higher percentage of males read Q magazine rather than females. This would be the difference both Q magazine and my prediction as the statistics of EXCLUSIVE magazine, as Q magazine is a male dominated magazine. • This is why EXCLUSIVE magazine features equal amount of female and male artists and bands, so my magazine will have equal gender balance and won’t appeal to one gender. I predict that EXCLUSIVE magazine’s readership and the spending powers of for my target audience. I have to publish the correct date, which is based on the statistics that I predicted for from the statistics for Q magazine which is published online. The reason why I have chosen Q magazine’s statistics to analyse is because both of the magazines features similar contents which is produced. • 19. Magazine Masthead/Logo Font Names Test God Of War Granada Quartzo Manbow For my music magazine, the masthead/logo will be bold and eye-catching. Therefore, when my music magazine is on the shelves in the shops, must be easy to read. My masthead/logo is not similar to my magazine of inspiration Q magazine, as my masthead is one word and across the front cover, while Q magazine’s is at the left top corner with one letter in a red box. However, my music magazine is more similar to Mojo as the masthead is across the music magazine. However, the font of my masthead is gold, whilst the Mojo masthead changes between the colours of black and white. For my logo I have chosen the font ‘manbow’ from the website “dafront” , which is very easy to read and eye catching. I have chosen this font for the music magazine because it has a 1950s styles to the font. I did four different tests on “dafront” so I could decide, which font I should use for my masthead/logo for my music magazine. This is what my font will look like in my music magazine. House Style Consistency By looking at different fonts and colours for my music magazine, I am able to create my front page and also the double page spread, which has the same colour theme through my music magazine. The masthead of my music magazine, “Exclusive” will be mentioned on all of of pages of my music magazine. As, the masthead will be at the bottom of the page next to the page number of the magazine. When I develop my masthead on Photoshop, I will create the main logo. I chose to make my colour of the font gold, because it will make it appealing to my audience , as it is not like the other music magazine, as the masthead is bold and eye catching as well as simple.
  • 20. Magazine Fonts and Colours Font Name: Font Preview: Font Usage: Chapaza • Cover Lines • Web Address • Drop Capital • Stand First Coolvetica • Headline • Main Articles Titles today • Strapline timeless • Barcode, price and date Spinwerad • Puff Promotion Keep Calm • Puff Promotion Roboto-Thin • Main Artist Text The reason why I have picked two different fonts for the puff promotion is because I want my puff promotion to be bold, easy to read and striking to the audience. It is important to choose the best font for the puff promotion because the puff promotion will have exclusive competition or deals in the magazines. During the process of choosing the fonts and colours for my music magazine, I chose these specific fonts and colours because I want my magazine to look like a serious music magazine. My magazine will look professional and also fun and will be aimed at my target audience, which is between 15-30 years old. I have chosen several fonts from “dafont”, which will be included in my music magazine. All of my fonts are easy to read, as all of the font sizes will be different, so they can serve the purpose for the music magazine. Some of the font is used for different techniques for the music magazine. The “coolvetica” fonts will be used for headlines and the main articles title for the music magazine. It is important to have the same font in the magazine because if you have different fonts on the magazine, this could look cheap and unprofessional. Another font that serves more than one purpose is “chapaza”, which is used for cover lines ,web address, drop capital and the stand first. As this will be easy to read, also this font is simple and bold, which makes this font eye catching. The primary colour of my music magazine is red and gold. The masthead, Exclusive will be in gold as the lettering will be in red. The brand identity, will be at the bottom of every page, there will be a page number in red. However, the masthead of the music will be at the bottom in gold. This is similar to my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, as they also mention the page number and the masthead on each page of my music magazine.
  • 21. Final Planned Format and Style of Front Cover Masthead The masthead is the top of the magazine page. This will make the magazine eye-catching and therefore standout from the shelf in a shop. In addition, this will gain ‘star appeal’ ( Richard Dyer), as the people will know and recognise the magazine. The masthead is gold with a black outline which is easy for the target audience to read and as they be interested in the contents of the magazine. Main Story That main story is placed off the right main image. This is so the audience will know that this magazine will be mostly about the artist/bands. This will be in bold so the audience will be attracted to the magazine, if they are fans of the artist/band. Moreover, this is under the strapline of the magazine because you will know that the main story is important because it is exclusive, just like my magazine. This will gain star appeal (Richard Dyer) as people will know who will be featured in the magazine and therefore buy the magazine because of the artist and band. They will be interested by what they have to say about their personal life and their music career as well. Puff Promotion The puff promotion is placed on the top right hand side. This will appeal to readers as it will feel like that they are gaining something them the magazine and therefore buy the magazine for the free gift. The puff promotion will be in a shape such as a circle because it will be eyes catching and the target audience will know where to look for their free gift or they will know how to enter in a competition. Barcode I decided to place the barcode on the right hand side at the bottom because as in some of the issues of my magazines of inspiration e.g. Q magazine. However, the barcode is above the headline quote. The barcode on my magazine will tell you how much the magazine costs and the date of the magazine release. Headline Quote The headline quote is on the left of the main image above the main headline because this will be eye catching because it will be in bold. This could also create feeling in the audience by the headline quote because by the quote, you can sense if the interview is going to be humorous or sad. Therefore the target audience are able to judge the interview and the magazine before buying the magazine. Main Headline The main headline is at the bottom on left hand side of the page. It is under the headline quote. This will gain the ‘star appeal’ ( Richard Byer) as people will recognise the artists on the front and therefore there is more chance that they will read the magazine because they will be interested in what they have to say. In addition, if they know that their favourite artist will be included in this issue . Strapline I have decided to place the strapline under the masthead on the right. As, I have decided my strapline will be “Hear Our Voice”. This is important because the strapline will be near masthead. This will be brand identity, as the strapline could be catchy and well known.
  • 22. Final Planned Format and Style of Front Cover House Colour I have decided my main house colour to be gold as on my masthead it is gold, to express celebration and a special occasion, as buying my magazine, should be a celebration when buying my music magazine. In addition, another colour would be red for my magazine, as it is bright and bold, so this will appeal to the reader. Another two colours which will be featured throughout my magazine, are black and white as the colours will be used for the back of the magazine or the font of the magazine. The house colour will feature throughout my magazine, as these colours are the reason why my music magazine is unique and special for the music magazine industry. Cover lines I have decided to put the cover lines on the left side of the music magazine. This will be below the masthead so this will tell the audience what will be included in the music magazine. This will make the magazine more important, they can see how many artists/bands that are to be included in the magazine. The target audience will gain star appeal (Richard Dyer) as this will tell the target audience what the magazine will include in this issue, which will appeal to them. This action could increase sales and therefore becoming more popular and also having a better reputation within the UK or world wide. House Style During the interview, the font will be in the same size and also have the same font. Moreover, the main story will be different to create a sense of importance for the reader. In addition, by keeping within these guidelines this will create a good reputation of a high quality. Therefore, this will increase the sales and create a higher profit for the music magazine business.
  • 23. Final Planned Format and Style of Double Page Spread Stand First The stand first will be featured above the interview because this will be eye catching for the audience, so they will know what the interview is about. The first stand is important as this will introduce the interview and will mention basic facts such as name and age. This is important because the target audience are able to start to build a relationship with the artist and also a mutual understanding of them. The first stand would be above the interview. Main Image The main image of the article covers nearly both the pages. The image is large and therefore it could be eye catching for the audience, as they can see their favourite artist on the double page spread. The picture could create ‘star appeal’(Richard Dyer) for the audience, so you can get an exclusive image of the person. Moreover, this could convey the person's personality, as they can be seen as more down to earth. Pull Quote I have decide to place the Pull Quote on the main picture, as this will create the first impression of the interview and also you can tell what tone the interview will be. The Pull Quote will be large and bold, so this will be eye catching for the audience and encourage them to read the interview. Interview The interview is the main part of the double page spread of the magazine. This is important because they can read, which the artist/band really think of their music. Moreover, in the interview you can read some of their stories . The interview can create what the tone of the double page spread of the magazine, which can create an emotion in the reader, as if the tone of the interview is sad, the reader may feel the sadness in the interview. However, if the interview is funny, then the reader may laugh with or at them and also they will feel happy as well. The interview within the magazine is to appeal to the target audience because they can understand the artist more as a person and also see what they have to say about their music career so far. The interview will be in four separate columns at the bottom of the page.
  • 24. Final Planned Format and Style of Double Page Spread Caption about other artists/bands Like my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, this will included other artist/band and to see when their album release or when their next concerts start. In addition, this is added ‘star appeal’ ( Richard Dyer) because they are featuring well known and loved artists and also feature a interview within the magazine. This will allow the target audience to get excited when reading the magazine as they will know what to expect to find. Brand Identity The brand identity is very important, as this will be included in all of my pages of the magazine. Moreover, this will include the masthead, the page number and also the issue date. Another, brand identity technique that I have done for the magazine is that have use the my masthead and place it across magazine background. This is important because this will have a good effect on of my magazine . This could suggest that all of the information and the images which are on the double page spread are exclusive to my magazine. Therefore, no one can use the information and the image that my magazine had discovered, designed and created. Information about the artist box. This reason why I have choice to have the information about the artist box is because the audience well know fun facts about them, so they can create a bond with the artist and also create their own option about the artist, so they will know whether they like them or not. Moreover, the information about the artist drop caption could be use to advertise themselves like if they have a up and coming concerts or if they have a albums, which is going to be release. In addition within the caption there are detail about the reason behind her album and the success of their single. This box is next to the main image and the caption about other artists/bands. Moreover, this box is also above the interview section. Article Title and the Sub Title The article title and the sub title is used on the to introduce the the double page spread. The article title is used to appeal the target audience to read the rest of the interview as it will state, which artists will be included in the double page spread. In addition, this will gain ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as as more more will want to read what their favourite artist or bands have to say about their personal life, their inspiration and their successful music career. However, the sub title will state a facts about their music career such as in EXCLSUIVE the magazine’s sub title was “Just Released Forth Album”.
  • 25. Interview Draft Planning For the double page spread in my music magazine I will write an interview with the artist, Paloma Faith who will be featured on my double page spread as she features as the main story and will also feature a headline quote from the interview, so this will attract the audience to read my music magazine because she is a famous singer and therefore, the ‘star appeal’ will form, as her fans will buy the music magazine because she will be featured in the music magazine. I have chosen to interview Paloma Faith because she is well known because of her many hits like “Only Love can hurt like This”, “Upside Down” or “New York”. Moreover, I have chosen Paloma Faith because the genre of her songs are soul, jazz and pop, this means she specialises in eclectic music, just like my music magazine. In addition, Paloma Faith has a successful career in the music industry and her song “Changing” is number 1 on the UK singles. Furthermore, she has won and been nominated for numerous different award ceremonies like the Brit Awards, Glamour Awards and the O2 Silver Clef Awards for her music. During the interview I will ask her questions about her music career and what artists inspire her for her music and what inspires her to sing. I will ask about her more about her music. The interview will be a layout of on the double page spread. There will be different questions and different answers for the interview. I have used format because it is like many of the different double page spread in Q magazine. So the audience can understand the format of the interview in the music magazine. This is my page of inspiration for the Q magazine for the October 2015 issue on page 15. As they use different colours for the font, this will make the writing bolder and easier to read.
  • 26. Draft Article - Interview Interviewer: Hello Paloma. It’s good to meet with you – how are you? PALOMA: Good to be finally meeting with you, very excited to be here. I’ve been good, thanks. Interviewer: Congratulation, for winning your first Brits award for British Female Solo Artist this year. PALOMA: thank you, I was very happy that I finally won a Brits award, after all have been nominated three times and never won a Brits award before. So, this was very special for me when I won my first Brits award. Interview: Does fame affect the your day to day life? PALOMA: No, because I have made a conscious effect to stay with friends, have always had, do the same things and go to the same places. This is because my friends can’t afford to go to posh or fancy places with me, so I go with them to do cheap and cheerful things (laugh). So I am so relaxed with my friends, so I’m always forgetting that I am in the public eye. So, when people ask for a photo with me, I still find it really weird. Interview: Who is your biggest inspiration? PALOMA: Well… I would say Etta James. She is a singer between the 50s and 60s. I tell people that she was like a teacher because I never had any singing lesson as I would copy the style of her vocal. I have been having singing lesson now because I need to know the techniques to save my voice. Another artist is Billie Holiday and all of the old singers. Interview: So, you are known for your retro and eccentric style well as voice. So would you explain what you are wearing. PALOMA: Well, I am wearing everything from the high-street. So the top and the trousers are from H&M. as these shoes are from New Look. As, the beret is from eBay, they come in lots of colours. When I was an opening act for prince, he did say to me that I was one of the best dressed people in the music industry at the moment. So that was quite nice. Interview: So I heard that you done a bit of acting during your career as a singer, What have you been in and have you audition to do anything else? PALOMA: Well, my I appeared in one episode of Holby Blue , which is on the BBC. I played a thief. (Laugh) also I was in St Trinian in 2007 as Andrea who was the Emo. I’ve been in others acting things in was like I was cast in Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctors Parnassus. I did audition for Kickass 2 but I have never got a call back. Interview: Talking about your television appearances, I heard you are replacing Rita Ora on the Voice PALOMA: Yes, I am going to be a coach in the 5th series on the voice. I am very excited about this, as I would be finding new fresh talents in the UK. This will be a new experience, as its not about acting or singing, but it’s more about being yourself. So I hope you be watching. Interview: Don’t worry, I will watch it. I heard a rumour that you have started making your fourth album, as you announce it at Glastonbury Festival. Can you give anything away. PALOMA: That is true, I am in the process of making the albums. I’m not going to say anything yet. The song Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix did inspire for my fourth album. It’s going to be a surprise. That’s all I'm going to say. Interview: Can you tell me more about your upbringing and how you started singing. PALOMA: Well, I have an English mum and Spanish dad, they divorced when I was four years old, so I was raised by my mum. My mum wanted me to be a dancer, so I would go to dance lesson every week. I did my A-levels at City and Islington College and then I studied for a degree at Northern School of Contemporary dance for contemporary dance. Then, I was lucky enough to get into Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design do, I can study for an MA in Theatre Directing. I knew this was a good opportunity, so I took a lot of part time job like Sales assistant at Agent Provocateur, singer in a burlesque cabaret, a life model and a magician’s assistant. So I can pay for my education. Interview: Wow, you have do lots of different part time job. This interview is sadly coming toward the end, what are you hoping to do in the future? PALOMA: I want to continue making music, have a career and have a family one day. I also want to travel with my work because I have done lots in the UK and I have happy with the support I have received. But, I'm not well known around the world, that is my next aim. I have created a draft interview, which featured the famous pop, jazz and soul signer Paloma Faith. I have created these questions because of my music magazine, Q magazine. This is because I have created a style of magazine, which is about herself, her music and her fashion so she will feel comfortable with the questions. I know that I couldn’t get a real interview with Paloma Faith, for my question so I received my information about Paloma Faith from previous interviews she as done from IBM.TV. I Also, got my information from different website. Link to the IBM.TV. interview, where I have receive most of my interview about Paloma Faith. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_fl8rU sFCE

  • 28. Location Image When I am looking for a location that I could photograph the front cover and the double page spread. I would need a place that has good lighting for example big windows, to let in light and also a white wall. So I could edit the background of the photograph. I have to check the site for any possible risks to me and the model before taking the image. In addition I would have to find out if there is a risk to the camera if I take the image within a location e.g. floor tiles. The lighting is an important part of the photo shoot as it could make the image better as will be easier to see. This is why I am taking the image during the day time as the natural light will come in and therefore improve the image overall. This is why I am taking the image in the kitchen, as it meets the need of the brief because it has a white wall and also there are three large glass doors that will allow natural light in. • 36. Legal and Ethical Issues-Production Before the magazine would be allowed to be published and released to the public, the magazine has a reasonability to everyone to check for any legal and ethical issues. This is important as this could cause offensive to some people or the company could get into a legal battle because they haven’t done the checks before they have released the magazines. There are two main companies that would normally handle complaints from the public. These companies are called The IPSO (Independent Press Standards Organisation) and ASA ( Advertising Standards Authority). These companies are only used in the UK. Legal Issues Copyright- this is a type of intellectual property, which will allow a print, publish, film, music or something have a legal right or exclusivity to a person or a company. This means if anyone uses the material without permission, then the person or the company have the legal right to sue them. This is important because if a person or company use the item without copyright and haven’t asked to use the product, they will breaking the copyright laws and therefore they could face criminal charges such as paying an expensive fine. This is why it is important to gain the permission from the owners before using the item. Privacy- Everyone should be able to have privacy within their life, this is why it is important for the Editors not to be able to publish anything before the person/people give them consent before hand. This is why people are not allow to take pictures of the a person/ people in public or within a private place without their consent to do so. This is why the magazine needs to gain permission from the people that they want to be in their magazine before taking a photo of them. Seditous Libel- Seditous Libel is when something has been written that could seem to be offensive or to challenge the views of the government. This could damage the reputation of the government and therefore it could make them look less respectable or less powerful. Criminal Libel- Criminal Libel is when someone publishes, spoken or written statement about person/ people that could damage their reputation or image of person. This is important as these allegations could stick with them for life and therefore it could ruin their life and stop them getting jobs. Ethical Issues Discrimination- the definition of discrimination is when the someone is treated different because of their race, ethnicity, gender, class, disability and someone who has any physical or metal health. This means a person’s race, ethnicity, gender, class, disability and someone who have any physical or metal health must not be included within the articles unless it relates to the story . Children- When people are taking pictures of children for a brand, there are some regulation that they have to follow. The children must be able to do their normal school hours before taking part in a photographic session. Moreover, children who are under 16 are not allow to be interviewed or photographed without their parents or guardians consents. The editors are not allowed to use materials of the children that the parents or the guardians are not happy with. In addition, the editors are not allowed to release any information about the child’s private life . Accuracy- the information that is released to the publication must be accurate. The information must not have any misleading information in the article. This could include images, information and interviews . In addition, the headline must support the test in the article or interview as this could be misleading to the readers. However, if something has been released with a misleading statement or information to the public, the publication must correct their mistake. Therefore, the publisher must handle the situation properly by releasing a public apology to the person. This could mean that they wouldn’t be allowed to publish potential facts or potential rumours to the public. Harassment- to gain the information, the journalists are not allow to intimidate, harass or keep in pursuit the person/ people for information. The journalists are not allow to keep on questioning, ringing or take pictures of the person when the person said to keep away from them. They are not able to stay on their property when they have asked them to go away when the journalists want some information. This is why the editors must make sure that these regulation are enforced and therefore this will mean that these materials are not from harassment but from people who are willing to give the journalists the information. • 37. Legal and Ethical Issues Contract Challenges: When a contract about copyright has been made and signed, it is not allowed to be broken or reorganised. This will mean that the company will have their own the logo of their company and also they are allowed to make different changes to the magazine legally. If the magazine want to make any changes to the logo or the information in the magazine, they will be in legal trouble as they have broken the contract. The reason why the magazine will be in legal trouble is the magazine has plagiarised the company’s work. Copyright The company will have to conduct research into several legal areas before creating their magazine. This is important as they wouldn’t want to be in legal trouble when using contents or images, which were copyright but didn’t know about it . We would have to gain permission from the founder or the inventors of the images or information to ask if the magazine are allow to use it. This is why the magazine will have to contact them in order to attempt to get their permission. If this process does not happen, the magazine could face legal action such as a fine which will be between £5,000 to £50,000. This is why is it important to gain the permission from the founder and the inventors and also prove that the permission have be gained by making them sign a contract. Privacy When publishing a magazine , it is important to follow the regulations which will ensure the people’s personal information and data such as their telephone number or their home address won’t be published to the public. This is why it is essential for the magazine to protect the person/people’s identity so that they couldn’t be viewed in a negative light and therefore damage their reputation. This would be a legal issue as the magazine shouldn’t be allowed to release any information that is private to the person/people. In addition, when subscribing to a magazine such as Q magazine, the consumer will have to put in their personal detail such as their bank account into the system. The company will know their personal details and their banking details, which have to be protected. If the consumers’ details are not protected, other people could steal money from the consumers and therefore the trust between the magazine company and their consumer will be broken. This could cause a decrease profit as less people will trust the magazine to subscribe online to their magazine. Overall, it is important to consider the contract challenges, privacy and copyright when creating my magazine. This is important as if I don’t follow these legal and ethical issues, this could affect the magazine’s reputation, the consumer’s lives and also affect the businesses’ financial state when creating the magazine and paying off the fines. This is why all of the content and images that are included in the magazine will be made from our own or will gain permission from the founder and make them sign a contract before publishing the magazine with the copyright content and image in. My magazine will also gain copyright on their own content and images that will be included in the magazine. One example of where my magazine will apply copyright is on my masthead as no other company are allow to use it without my magazines permission .
  • 38. Press Complaints Commission When I was creating the magazine, I read through the Editors’ Code of Practice , which helped me to ensure my magazine was to a professional standard. This is way my magazine has ‘sets the framework for the highest professional standards’. This will highlight that if my magazine is made to this standard, I will attract more readership to my magazine and therefore it will be recognised within the UK and globally. Our readers, will expect that the magazine will have accurate and also high quality information. Also they will expect our magazine to guarantee them a good experience when reading our magazine.
  • 39. Press Complaints Commission During the creation and the designed of my magazine, the Editors’ Code will be the main force as, it will guide us when gaining or publishing information to the general public. Some of the Editors’ Code that the magazine must follow is on the left hand side. The editor of the magazine will check through all of the information on the magazine and check it has followed the code before it is released to the public. If any information didn’t follow the Editors’ Code, the Editor must change the information so that it will fit within the guideline of the Editors’ Code. The Editors’ Code is used as a guideline for the editors as it will enable them to check their information against the code before allowing it to be released to the public. If the public want to complain about the magazine, they are able to go through IPSO (Independent Press Standards Organisation), so that the IPSO will be able to see if the magazine has broken the guideline for the Editors’ Code. Editors’ Code of Practices that will be highlighted  Accuracy  Privacy  Harassment  Intrusion into grief or shock  Reporting suicide  Children  Children in sex cases  Hospitals  Reporting of Crime  Clandestine devices and subterfuge  Victims of sexual assault  Discrimination  Financial journalism  Confidential sources  Witness payments in criminal trials  Payment to criminals  The Public interest
  • 40. Press Complaints Commission During the creation and design of the magazine, the editor must check for accuracy. They will check through all the content within the magazine, so that it wouldn’t display or release any information that is untrue for the public to read. They will check through all of the front cover and the double page spread so that it wouldn’t display any ‘inaccurate, misleading or distorted information or images, including headlines not supported by the text.’ It is important for the editor.
  • 41. Press Complaints Commission To confirm that the first issue of my magazine will be accurate the editor will check all of the information that is contained in the magazine. This is important as the editors will check all of the potential information that could be released to the public. The editor will check all of the words in the magazine for the correct spelling such as the person name being featured in the magazine. If the spellings are not correct, this will make the magazine seem unprofessional to the general public and therefore less people will want to buy the magazine. This will mean that if the magazine is unprofessional less people will want to buy the magazine as the information will be full of spelling and grammar mistakes, which will make it harder for the reader to read through the magazine as they wouldn’t understand the content of the magazine. In addition, when finding out information the sources must be checked before releasing the article to the public. The editor will check all of the sources the information came from so that they will know that all of the information will be accurate and also check if the sources are real and not from fake sources. This is why the editor will check the sources where the information came from so that they will know if the information is real before releasing anything to the magazine that could damage the magazines reputation once a complaint that has occurred.
  • 42. Press Complaints Commission During the process of designing my magazine, I have to make sure that nothing in my magazine will discriminate against someone’s ‘race, colour, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability’ . To mention these within an article, could be offensive some people, which could lead to a decrease of readership within a magazine or for the magazine to pay a fine. In addition, my magazine will check for any pictures that could be offensive to other people and therefore not producing an accurate image for the customer. This is why the editor will check for any images and information that will discriminate against people and therefore make people stop reading the magazine. In addition, if this task is not followed through, this will be breaking the Editors’ code and therefore it could lead to the magazine company paying a fine.
  • 43. Press Complaints Commission To conform the first issue of my magazine will not discriminate against any one because of the person’s race, colour, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability. This is important as this will damage and even ruin my magazine’s reputation as it will discriminate against people’s. The magazine will not use any images that will discriminate and suggest any opinions the readers be will offended by. The editor of my magazine will check through all of images to check if these images are offensive to other people. To avoid discrimination for the first issue of my magazine, their was be no offensive languages or images used that will discriminate against a person or people because of their race, colour, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability. Advertising discrimination in the magazine, could lead to a complaint through the Press Complaints Commission. A website stores all of the complaints that are made through this website. Anyone can look through all of the complaints that were made by people against my magazine. Anyone can look at the reasons of a complaint and therefore judge this for themselves. This could decrease in the sales of the magazine because of the magazines wrongdoing of discrimination.
  • 44. Press Complaints Commission When I created and designed my music magazine, I needed to check if I have all of the information and pictures in my magazine have permission to publish the pictures and the information to the public. One way that I made sure that I have permission to release the information and pictures to the public, so was to design a contract and have it signed to enable my magazine to release it. The consent form will have to be signed before any interview and photo shoot are able to take place. If these rules are not followed through, this will be breaking the Editors’ Code and therefore the magazine may get in trouble, which could lead the magazine going to court and paying a big fine. There are screenshot to reveal that my models have accepted the terms and conditions that were made for the photo shot. Sending the email to the model Receiving an email from the model
  • 45. Press Complaints Commission To conform that the first issue of my magazine will ensure the privacy of the models on the magazine to the artists and bands that will feature in the magazine. The magazine should respect the artists and bands’ privacy so that they respect the magazine as a modern music magazine. My magazine will respect the artists and bands’ privacy as they may not want to be featured in the magazine if their privacy is not respected. If the magazine released personal images and information that is private, they may not want to be featured in the magazine as they will not trust the magazine not to print private information and images of them without gaining their permission. In addition, when featuring models on the magazine it is important to make them to sign a permission form so that my magazine will not to receive any legal trouble once they decide how they have been portrayed in the magazine. The magazine will not be breaking any laws as the model would have signed the contract before the magazine used the model featured in the magazine.
  • 46. Legal and Ethical Issues – How to make a complaint Complaints Procedure: 1. (Source: https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/makeacomplaint.html,https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/procedure.html) One the left hand side, there are screen shot of the form from IPSO official website. This is important as the person are able to give all of the information about their complaint and also the reasoning behind their complaint. The person will have to give detail about the complaint such as the publication name, the date of the article and also the reason of the complaint. When the information about the complaint is done, the person will haven to go on another page about the complaint and see, which Editors’ code the publication has breached. • 47. Complaint Case Study People will have the right to complain to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) when they feel like that the Editors' Code of Practice have been breach . This is important as complaint will be investigative further and therefore the complaint will be resolved. This is important as the Daily Mirror published two images of HRH Prince Henry of Wales and his then girlfriend Cressida Bonas when they were at Royal Albert Hall during a private event. The photographs were taken by a member of the audience and then use the image for social media. This mean that they didn’t expect to be photograph as the event were private and also didn’t expect these pictures to be used on the newspaper. This mean that the Daily Mirror has breach Clause 3 (Privacy) of the Editors' Code of Practice, as the images was not take in a control environment and also it was not taken within a places where they thought they want take photographs in. the reason why the images was taken is because Prince Harry is apart of most famous family in the world (the British Royal Family), which mean that he will always attract the media attention and therefore magazines or newspapers will do anything in order get a pictures of him to use so that their publication will be more popular within the public. As a result of their complaint the Daily Mirror removed the two images with the content of the articles as well from the Daily Mirror’s official. • 48. Complaint Case Study Example of when a Celebrities complaint through the Press Complaints Commission is when Katie Price and Peter Andre complaint about Heat Magazine after they have made fun of Katie Price’s disabled son, Harvey. This is important as Harvey suffer with a rare condition called septo-optic dysplasia and some of septo-optic dysplasia are blindness, growth hormone deficiency and it will cause him to gain weight. Heat magazine breach the Editors’ Code the Clause 6 (Children) and Clause 12 (Discrimination). This is important as the content of the information involved a child to be viewed in a negative way and also the information was discriminate against is disability and also the affect that it will have on him. This is important as Harvey Price didn’t chose to be famous as he come from a famous family and therefore he didn’t chose to be targeted for negative publicity because of his disability . This is important as Heat magazine produce a 50 free stickers of an image of Harvey’s face and a speech bubble , which have stated “Harvey wants to eat me!”. This mean that Heat magazine discriminated against Harvey because of the effect of septo-optic dysplasia have on him as a child. • 49. Question 1 These set of results is presented in the chart. This highlights the target audience may be females, however this is opposite than Q magazine readership. This suggests that I have asked more females than male, which could be a bit bias. This could shows the gender readership for my music magazine as more females has filled out my music magazine than males.
  • 50. Question 2 These set of results will reveal the target audience of the age range. The main age range for the readership is 14-16, as I have asked more people between the 14-16 because I have ask more people between the age range. This is important because my magazine can targeted at the younger target audience, so I can created a magazine, which is designed for that specific target audience.
  • 51. Question 3 This set of results can determine the most popular genre for my target audience. The most popular genre for my music magazine is pop music. As, my music magazine will have a electric of genre for my music magazine. This mean that my magazine will involve pop. Even so I haven't done have R&B as one of the choice for the question, someone choice other and then mention R&B. this means that I will mention R&B artists in my magazine as well as pop, rock and indies artists and bands.
  • 52. Question 4 All of my target audience reveal that they will be willing to buy a magazine between £2-£3. This is important because stereotypically students will not have enough money to buy a music magazine over £3 as it is deemed quite expensive. However all magazines that have a monthly frequency are over £3 because they have more content inside the magazine and therefore its more expensive. So I cannot meet with the target audience request of a cheap monthly music magazine because my magazine will be made in a high quality.
  • 53. Question 5 This sets of results reveal that most of my target audience never brought a music magazine. However, the target audience who do buy music magazines, would mostly buy their music magazine monthly. Also there is an equal amount of people who do buy the magazines weekly and fortnightly.
