Hr Professionalism
Explanation of the 4 aspects of HR Professionalism
Johns and Perkins (2012) summarise HR Professionalism as having 4 concentric circles and these
being; managing self, managing in group/teams, managing upwards and managing across the
organisation.
The first aspect, Managing self is about the skills, knowledge and behaviours one has. Whilst the
second aspect Managing in groups and teams means a HR specialist can work with others and solve
problems.
The third, when Managing Upwards Johns and Perkins (2012) explain that HR professionals will be
required to work closely with their managers and senior professional in organisations . By managing

Le Morte Darthur, Gandalf And Merlin
In a 1967 essay, J. R. R. Tolkien said he saw Gandalf as an angelic being, given the form of an old
man to limit his powers on earth. He would never say the same of Merlin. While Tolkien drew much
inspiration from Arthurian legend, especially Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte Darthur, Gandalf and
Merlin are very different characters. Merlin is a man, one whose role in much of Arthurian legend is as
a loyal servant of the Kings of Camelot, willing to do anything to help them. He also rarely performs
serious acts of magic. Gandalf, on the other hand, is a warrior mage, an immortal being sent to protect
the people of Middle Earth. He displays a powerful use of magic as well, and unlike Merlin, rallies the
people of Middle Earth to his cause and gives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Uther, whom Merlin serves, falls in love with Igraine, the wife of a neighboring duke, but the
duke refuses to allow Uther to have her, and Igraine is too loyal a woman to willingly commit
adultery. So, Merlin devises a plan, telling Uther, this night ye shall lie with Igraine . . . and ye shall be
like the duke her husband, Ulfias will be like Sir Brastias . . . and I will be like Sir Jordanus (Le
Morte, 5). Merlin had disguised the men so well that they took on the appearance of other people,
enough that Igraine believed Uthor was her husband. Merlin s greatest feats usually involve
shapeshifting and disguise, as well as perhaps prophecy. After Merlin comes to Arthur in the guise of a
child, and then an old man, to tell him about his parentage, he says, But I ever ought to be heavy, for I
shall die a shameful death, to be put in the earth quick, and ye shall die a worshipful death (Le Morte,
23). This foreshadows Merlin s death at the hands of his protégé Nineve, and Arthur s death at the end
of the book, and illustrates that Merlin has some knowledge of the events in the future. He
demonstrates this once again after subduing Sir Pellinore, when he tells Arthur, And he shall tell you
the name of your own son begotten of your sister that shall be the destruction of all this realm (Le
Morte, 29). Through his powers of foresight, Merlin can pinpoint what will bring about the end of
Camelot. Gandalf, although immortal and powerful, rarely shows these powers of foresight. The
future in Lord of the Rings is something that cannot be known, only fought

The Disturbing World Of Human Trafficking
Man is a wolf to man. This Latin proverb starts the reader on a harrowing journey into the disturbing
world of human trafficking. John Bowe speaks to the typical American as he investigates the often
hidden and dangerous side of globalization. Humans have a natural desire to get ahead in life, even if
sometimes others have to suffer as a result. This attitude is the catalyst for what is known as modern
day slavery. The author sums up his book perfectly when he says, We all seek control. Control equals
power. Power corrupts. Corruption makes us blind, tyrannical and desperate to justify our behavior.
Indeed he proves that statement true throughout the book.

A Brief Analysis Of My Organization s Sharepoint Team
Team Work Readiness Analysis
In this paper I am composing a brief analysis of my organization s SharePoint team. This analysis will
bring together different information that has been composed within my MGMT 581 Team Building
class. The purpose of this analysis is to determine my organizations readiness to support team work.
Also, a SharePoint team improvement plan will be included.
Team Analysis
In an earlier assignment I created a Team Analysis. The team analysis was composed around my
current SharePoint team within Salt River Project (SRP). The SharePoint Team is a self managing
team. My Team consists of two SharePoint developers, two SharePoint administrators, two SharePoint
supporters, and a college intern. I am a SharePoint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowledge, Skills, Attitude
The SharePoint team is well rounded in knowledge and skills. We have entry level positions covered
with our intern, all the way to extremely technical positions such as our developers.
Motivation and Effort
SRP has an implemented bonus system which is called EPIC. The manager sets the team EPIC around
high level goals for the year. These goals are usually created around the successful completion of
known projects needing completion. If my goals are attained by the dates specified, I am awarded an
EPIC bonus. My EPIC bonus is usually awarded at 1 percent of my salary for each goal attained.
Team members are very motivated to obtain their EPIC, and I have noticed this to be consistent with
others as well.
Coordination Strategies
The separated skill sets create an environment that does not need much in the coordination strategy
area. My team knows exactly who is responsible for each task as soon as a requirement is stated.
However, the problem we have currently is a couple of individuals are consistently handled a larger
percentage of the work. The largest complaint around our current planning and task structure is that it
is unequal between team members. I am an administrator and have noticed the unequal load. Team
members with knowledge tend to become the go to personnel to assist others their tasks.
Team Performance
The SharePoint Team is responsible for the SharePoint software and

Examples Of Kate Stockholm Syndrome
The idea of finding comfort in your capturer is not anything new. In fact, it was first noticed in birds
when their masters would use abuse to tame them. However, in the contemporary world, this idea is
called Stockholm syndrome and it is more common than many people may assume. When you are
alone with nobody to lean on, the one person who gives you any kind of care at all is someone you
would attach yourself to. Katherine Minola is just one victim of this syndrome. In the play Taming of
the Shrew, Shakespeare gives Kate Stockholm syndrome in order to portray how women are
subservient to men. Undoubtedly, Kate is forcefully taken away from Padua by her husband Petruchio.
When he states that he plans to leave, she clearly replies, Nay, then, Do what thou canst, I will not go
today, No, nor tomorrow, not till ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One may get this intention because at the beginning of Act IV, Petruchio eggs on a verbal argument
between Kate and the Widow, seemingly allowing her to act disobedient and not like much of a lady.
In reality, Petruchio knows that even though she may be acting disobedient to other people, she still
treats him with the utmost respect and will be submissive to him in the end. Emily Detmer stated that
Kate learns that to survive she must see the world from his perspective, just as she learns to bond with
his side of abuse. (287) Detmer provides an interesting viewpoint, claiming that Kate s Stockholm
syndrome was unconsciously self induced by her giving up the fight against Petruchio. She states that
rather than taking comfort in Petruchio during abuse, Kate does so afterward when she makes the
assumption that she deserves the abuse as aforementioned. This is simply another thought to entertain,
did Kate induce her own Stockholm syndrome or did Petruchio? Regardless of who caused it, there is
no question of whether or not it is something she

Advanced Ecology Midterm (1) Why is scale important in ecology?
Ecology is the study of the distribution and abundance of organisms, their interactions between each
other and their environment, and the structure and function of ecosystems. To this end, the scale
(spatial, functional, temporal, organizational, etc.) at which we observe nature and the multitude of
environments that comprise it is an extremely important factor in the study of ecology. Dumping
sewage effluent in the middle of a small pond is not going to register even a slight disturbance on a
global or even regional scale , but there is a still massive disturbance to the organisms at the small
scale of that pond ecosystem. Similarly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Large scale variations in these gradients are easy to observe, like an ecotone transitioning grassland
into desert. Smaller scale variations are harder to detect with the naked eye, and micro variations in
habitat are harder to see still. The physical size of environmental heterogeneity / variation is not
indicative of its importance to biodiversity or its ecological relevance, however, as Hutchinson reveals
in his 1959 paper. He discusses the importance of the mosaic nature of the environment as a
significant contributor to biodiversity. While large scale variations in habitat are certainly important
factors in organismal diversity and are responsible for niche differentiation, smaller scale and even
microscopic habitat variations are arguably just as (if not more) important factors that contribute to
biodiversity around the globe. Because the vast majority of animal species on Earth are physical small,
even the tiny variations in a landscape that define its mosaic nature allow for more numerous and
specialized niche differentiations than larger (and less numerous) land animals can fill . Hutchinson s
mosaic nature postulate was an extremely important breakthrough in modern Ecology, and helped
spawn further research into the importance of examining nature at many different scales microscopic,
macroscopic, and everything in between.
Scale is an extremely important

The Concepts Of Microeconomics While At San Pasqual High...
Students at San Pasqual High School created a music video outlining the major concepts of
microeconomics while at the same time relating each lesson to the real world, albeit in a humorous
manner. The application of these ideas in the video ranged from determining the price of gas to finding
a dance partner. The concepts addressed by the students including market structures, government
intervention, elasticity, and scarcity, that all hold value in everyday life and an understanding of their
importance can contribute significant benefits to the power of the consumer within the market. To
begin, one of the first concepts introduced by the video was that of market structures. Market
structures are categorized as a result of variables that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a consumer, knowledge of the various market structures allows for the understanding of the
motivations and decisions made by certain firms, and can assist in the making of calculated purchases.
For instance, the student in the video hypothesized that gas prices were rising because multiple gas
firms within an oligopoly were colluding and artificially raising prices. With this information, one can
choose to take their purchase to another firm who does not appear to be colluding and purchase a
substitute good for a cheaper price. If enough consumers are aware of the strategies utilized by firms
within markets structures such as monopolies and oligopolies, action can be taken in order to prevent
costs of goods from reaching levels that only benefit producers. The power that each consumer s
purchase holds is often underestimated, and if used wisely, can help to create a market that fosters
innovation and rewards firms with fair prices. The next major topic the video focused upon was
elasticity. Elasticity is a measure of how sensitive producers and consumers to changes in price of a
good or a service. If a good/service is elastic, willingness to purchase changes significantly with a
small change in price. Conversely, if a good/service is inelastic, the market does not react very much
in response to a change in price. The concept of elasticity was introduced in the music video when a
student was attempting to get away

Differences Between Minority And Non Minority Small...
The aim of this quantitative correlational study is to understand the differences between how minority
and non minority small business owners approach succession planning. This study will use a ex post
facto design. An A priori power analysis test using the G*Power 3.1.9.2 software program will be used
to establish a minimum overall sample size of 134. Specifically, a Wilcoxon Mann Whitney (two
groups) statistical two tailed t test calculation with an effect size d of .5, an alpha level of .05, and beta
level of .80 will be used to determine a sample size group of 67 participants. The subjects for the
current study will consist of U.S. small business owners selected using multiple sampling frames.
Although multiple sampling frames hamper generalization to the population, it allows for convenience
and is suitable for difficult and rare populations (). Subjects in the study must fit the definition of
small business owner, one who establishes an independently owned and operated business for profit in
the United States and has less than 500 employees.
The current study has two types of variables: the independent and dependent variables. The dependent
variables are succession preparedness, enterprise characteristics, and proportion of businesses with
formal succession plans and the independent variable, small business owners approach to succession
planning. The independent and dependent variables will be measured using an electronic questionnaire

Russia And Japanese Industrialization Analysis
In the 1800s, Europe began to industrialize, slowly transitioning from an agricultural to industrial
economy. As people began to migrate to cities and factories began pop up all over, along with
railroads and telegraphs, the militaries and economic might of these countries began to grow.
However, while Europe was busy industrializing, Russia and Japan remained isolated with agriculture
based economies. When Japan s weakness was revealed by the arrival of Commodore Perry with large
gunboats and a powerful US Navy, Russia s inferiority was revealed when they decisively lost the
Crimean War to the better equipped European military. Afterward, both resolved to better themselves
and modernize like their European counterparts. While Japan and Russia s ... Show more content on

In contrast to Russia and Japan, Great Britain s industrialization occurred differently. England was
actually the first to industrialize and industrial Great Britain served as a model for Japan s and Russia
s later on. Industrialization was a slow, organic process in England started after feudalism but did
cause much of the populace to leave their farms and migrate to urban centers, causing the creation of
tenements. However, England s industrialization was privately incentivized. Rather than the
government creating economic incentives to modernize, England s few natural resources and therefore
ambition to take the resources of others caused private capitalists to invest money into building
factories and growing industries. And like Japan, England s industrialization was very successful, as
the technological advancements and new innovation allowed their superior military to overcome other
countries and imperialize, take over new regions. Thus, even though industrialization in different
countries around the world did have differences, industrialization as a process that countries go
through have similar characteristics. It causes massive social changes and the growth of urban centers,
development and innovations in not just the military but also

Discretionary Access Control (DAC)
Discretionary Access Control (DAC)
Computer security is important in every organization. It covers several areas such as locking the
computer room and the computer itself, protecting login accounts with passwords, encrypting network
communication lines and use of file protection among others. Whitman (2011) points out that
computer system security ensures that your computer does what it is supposed to, even if the users do
what they should not do. Discretionary Access Control (DAC) is a type of access controls that
provides protection to the files in a computer system. This type of control restricts access to files
based on the identity of users or groups which they belong. It is discretionary and lets you tell the
computer system who can have access to your files and therefore you can specify the type of access
allowed. For example, you can allow anyone to read a particular file in the system, but allow only you
to be able to change it.
According to Whitman (2011), this type of control access is rarely used with high security systems
because someone with permission to access files is able to pass that permission either directly or
indirectly on to any other person. This capability poses a threat to the security of the files and can be
dangerous to a high security system. An organization that requires high security, but the operating
system only supports DAC, can compensate with the use of an Access Control List (ACL). Haldar
(2010) defines ACL as a list which denotes which

Parenting Styles Research Paper
Parenting is something that usually comes naturally to people. There are no hard fast how to manuals
or rules to parenting. People generally just learn as they go. Most things are just second nature, like
feeding, clothing and generally caring for a child. However, as a child grows and other children are
born, parenting becomes more then simply handling the child s everyday needs. Sometimes parents
feel they need some help in deciding the best way to parent their children. There have been many
people who have spoken out about parenting and offered advice and assistance to parents in need.
Parenting styles are an example of something a parent can do to help them with their parenting. A

Essay On City Council Meeting
The process of the City Council meeting was very interesting and long. There were many things that I
learned in this meeting because it was the first meeting that I have been to for the city. Everything was
planned and very organized in the meeting and they go down a schedule or list of what they will do
first. The Mayor of the city of Bakersfield is the one to begin the meeting, but he was absent the day
that I went so Vice Mayor Harold Hanson took his spot. He mentioned how the Mayor had not missed
a meeting in such a long time that he can not even remember the last time he got to take his place.
Hearing what the Vice Mayor said about the Mayor showed the residents of Bakersfield and I how
important and how serious the Mayor takes his job. It showed that the Mayor really cares for the
people of Bakersfield even though many disagree with me. Vice Mayor Harold Hanson begins with an
introduction the meeting by welcoming everyone and announcing that Mayor Hall is going to be

Importance Of Confidentiality In Schools
The aims and objectives of confidentiality are to ensure that there are clear instructions of on the limits
of information exchange and these guidelines are followed when passing on knowledge about pupils.
Confidential information includes medical records, discussions, registers, statements, comments,
carers, reports and opinions. Information is to be shared on a “need to know†basis, meaning that
only the staff working closely with the child or giving special training are entitled to know certain
information. This includes information about a child’s allergies, special educational needs or
individual education plan. Sharing the information in the appropriate way also prevents it from being
misused. The school policy on confidentiality provides sufficient guidelines for staff about the
everyday practice of information sharing. The confidentiality policy has its legal roots in documents
like Every Child Matters, the Children Act 2004 and the Data Protection Act 1998. According to these
laws the school is only entitled to ask for information that is directly relevant to the education of the
child. This information is considered confidential and must only be used for the purpose it was
gathered for. It concerns health and medical information, records form previous schools and records
for special educational needs.
The main points of legislation and procedures covering confidentiality are that only the appropriate

Theories And The Underlying Processes Essay
theories and the underlying processes have a huge bearing on the subject. These psychological
theories are more than theoretical in nature and can thus be applied practically. Indeed, through these
theories, there is a growing belief that human behavior can be predicted using certain environmental
factors. As psychologists continue to inquire more into human behavior, it becomes clearer than
certain aspect of the social, biological, psychosocial, and technological environments have the biggest
sway on people s choice of actions. Often, human beings participate in a task because of the value
they will derive from it, especially in terms of its economic and social importance. Social cognitive
theory is of the thought that what a person perceives as right and its significance influences a course of
action. A person s behavior is greatly influenced by what he or she believes to be right or wrong. Most
importantly, their actions are influenced by the benefits they accrue from them. For this reason, the
subjective probabilities that affect the choice of actions can be used to determine a person s next
actions and ultimately, their behavior. In his theory, Rotter explains that learning and cognitive
processes combine to determine people s reactions to occurrences in life. Through Rotter s social
learning theory, behavior can be predicted using people s responses to life s occurrences. The social
cognitive approach focuses on the crucial nature of cognitive processes in the

The Global Financial Crisis of 2007 2008
The Global Financial Crisis 2007 2008 Economists and scholars spend years dissecting financial
markets and evaluating the causes of booms and busts. Throughout United States history there have
been multiple economic booms that were underestimated and followed by recessions. In the situation
of the 2007 2008 global financial crisis many culprits have been identified as causes, such as loose
monetary policy, credit booms, deregulation, over complexity, and greed. Since the economic boom
was solely dependent on weak policies and misconceptions, this leads me to believe prevention was
possible with adequate regulatory policy, risk assessment and clarifications for commercial banks.

Generally homeowners were required to meet certain qualifications in order to borrow funds for
mortgages, also known as prime mortgages. Since the prime mortgage market had receded, lenders
were encouraged to lower their requirements for lending and began to allow subprime mortgages.
These less responsible homeowners began to default on their mortgages, which turned investment
bankers stream of mortgage payments into empty houses. Increases in foreclosures raise the supply of
available houses, which lowers the fair market values of houses. The prime mortgage homeowners
were left with houses that were highly devalued relative to their mortgages and began to abandon their
mortgage obligations. Mortgage lenders, investment bankers, and outside investors froze their
activities, as they faced possible bankruptcy.
Regulatory/Supervisory Inadequacies Deregulation is believed to be the underlying cause of all

Diet Is The Right Fit
This table provides a quick glance at what each diet provides.
With this information someone can choose which diet he would like to try. Each person is different
and has different tastes so not everyone will pick the same one of these options. Once the choice is
made based on personal preferences the person should take a few months before deciding how he feels
about the diet. This amount of time is long enough for a habit to form. Habits generally take 21 days
to form but this time span also allows the person to see if they get the result they want and decide what
they think about it. If the person feels like the diet he choose is more of a burden but still wants to try
other diets, he should go back to evaluating the information he originally found and choose another
one. He can continue to do this until he found the diet that is the right fit for him and does not feel like
a chore, or until he thinks it is too much of a high involvement. One of our group members showed
high involvement when looking into each diet. Since it was something she did not know about she put
in information to see the results she would get for each diet.
For each diet she put in her age, 21, height, 5 5 , current weight,145 lbs, and weight goals,130 lbs. The
Atkins diet did require more information like what size her waist was, if she was pregnant or
breastfeeding, no, if she was prediabetic or diabetic, no, and if she prefered a more flexible diet or a
strict diet, flexible. Based on her

Designing A Three Dimensional Object From A Bundle Model
3d Printing
Introduction
3D printing, also referred as additive manufacturing assembling, is essentially a technique for making
a three dimensional object from a bundle model. The object may be of pretty much any structure. In
additive manufacturing technique, an item to be composed is assembled from the base up by adding it
to layers of the improvement material. The additive manufacturing procedure is distinctive from the
subtractive procedure, where material is evacuated from a square by strategies such as chiseling or
penetrating. The primary material used in the improvement of 3D items is plastic, however as of late,
there has also been a huge number of development toward utilizing optional materials like metals of
different sorts and also natural matter like carbon and its changed subordinates (Bhandari, 2014).
Background Hideo Kodama of Nayoga Municipal Industrial Research Institute is mostly considered to
have printed the first strong object from an advanced outline of 3D printing. But still the credit for the
initial 3D printer mostly goes to Charles Hull, who in 1984 planned it while working for the
organization he established, 3D Systems Corp. Charles Hull was a pioneer of the strong imaging
procedure known as stereo lithography and the STL (stereo lithographic) record group which is still
the most broadly utilized organization today as a part of 3D printing. He is similarly respected to have
begun business immediately prototyping that was simultaneous with

The Role Of Management Accountants And The Past And Recent...
The role of management accountant has been attracting a lot of interest since the principle of scientific
management was published by Frederick Winslow Taylor in 1911, which marked the birth of
management accounting theory. When researching the roles of management accountant in both past
and recent years, it is obvious to find that things have changed a lot. This essay is going to briefly
introduce both the past and the recent roles of management accountants first. Then discuss the reasons
for management accountants changing role. After that the analysis of the advantages this changing role
will bring about and the limitations it has will be given. Finally, some suggestions about how to treat
this changing role in today s economic environment will be offered.
In past years, traditional management accountants are score keepers , they provide information to
facilitate the process of assessing organization s actual performance against its planned activity
(Burns, Quinn, Warren, Oliveira, 2010). They mainly make people do what they are expected to do.
While now they are acting as internal consultants of the company. They spend less time on routine
tasks and more time on giving advice to managers to help them to develop a business sensitivity in
making decisions.
There are many factors facilitating the change in the role of management accountants. From external
aspects, firstly, with the rapid development in science and technology, more and more advanced and

Women During World War Two
I think a lot of women said, Screw that noise. Cause they had a taste of freedom, they had a taste of
making their own money, a taste of spending their own money, making their own decisions. I think the
beginning of the women s movement had its seeds right there in World War Two. President Franklin
D. Roosevelt s quote clearly illustrates the significance of women in the workforce during World War
Two and the feelings women may have felt. World War II was crucial for women in the workforce
because it was the first time the government needed women in the workforce to replace men in their
jobs, while they were away at war. Although, women had some involvement in the First Great War,
there was no greater demand for women to the workforce then during World War Two. Although
women played a crucial role in the successes of the Second Great War, society had varying opinions
and outlooks revolving around women s involvement in the workforce. Not everyone was supportive
of women s involvement in the labor force because of the stereotypes formed many years previous to
World War II regarding women being simply homemakers and working only in their homes, or very
seldom as secretaries. This view of women caused many problems for women in the workforce and it
continues to be a problem for women today. It is evident while looking at this particular time in
history, that there were varying views of women being a part of the workforce; it is clear that there are
people who thought

Reflection On Teacher Inquiry
As a learning support teacher and special educator, I find that I am continuously asking myself
questions about my teaching and what is best for my students. I spend a great deal of time reflecting
on how I can improve and change my practice and how I can best meet the needs of my students.
From many of these reflections come questions and wonderings that often require deeper
understanding and focus. Finding answers or possible solutions to these wonderings takes time if
changes are truly going to be implemented. In fact, Dana and Yendol Hoppey (2009) suggest, As
teachers seek out change and reflect on practice, the first step of their journey begins with
brainstorming questions or wonderings for exploration (pg.20). One way to find answers to these
wonderings is through problem based action research and teacher inquiry. Problem based action
research and teacher inquiry allows educators to focus on specific wonderings and can ultimately
provide educators with the information to make a difference in the classrooms and school. I know and
understand that with teacher inquiry the engagement and involvement of the teacher is essential and
the backbone of the inquiry. In my quest to becoming a highly reflective and effective teacher,

Dualism And Personalism
Dualism is a philosophy that hypothesizes our mind is more then just our body. Dualists all deny that
the mind is the same as the brain. In contrast Personalism is a philosophy that says our mind and body
are one and the same. Personalists regard personhood as the fundamental notion that which gives
meaning to all reality. We will explore their differences through their impact on abortion, death and
politics.
Dualism is a philosophy that in its most basic form holds that the mind is comprised of a nonphysical
substance, while the body is composed of the physical substance called matter. This type of dualism is
called substance dualism, or Cartesian Dualism. This type of dualism was formulated by Rene
Descartes, who was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the mind truly was a different substance then while the body dies the brain would still show some
signs of life, because the mind would still be causally affecting it.
Dualism and abortion. Because a dualism at its core it the belief that something is composed of two
different parts, body and mind, a dualists could look at abortion two ways. The first way is that
because the mind and body a different and only causally interact, then abortion does not end the life
and so should not be considered murder. The second way is that because the mind and body ARE
causally affecting one another then because you hurt one half it affects the other and a harmful way
and should be considered and harmful act and outlawed. Because body and mind are one and the same
both these views are wrong just on principle, but if we delve deeper the view that abortion end the life
and thus shouldn t be considered murder is obviously the more harmful of the two. But it is especially
harmful because this view separates the mind from the body and thus supports the pro abortionists
view that the baby is just a bunch of cells and isn t sentient. And the second view is harmful, but not
quite as harmful as the first. The second view marginalizes what happens during abortion, by saying
that because the mind is causally affected by what happens to the body that the act is harmful is
different then saying the act

This American Life Essay Sample

it is full of different ideas and dialect. I believe that this podcast was assigned for us to listen to
because it contains many of the things that are discussed by our textbook. For example, when Donald

he was telling them and that he wasn t listening (Glass, 5). How I think this relates to the book is in
Chapter 3 the book talks about listening. The book discusses things like being an active listener, as
well as, critical and comprehensive listening. I think that both Sue and Tom Emmer were not being
very good active listeners and were not listening critically or comprehensively. Sue wasn t listening to
the idea the Tom had that they could not just keep Somali Muslims out of St. Cloud so she wasn t
listening to understand the message of the speaker and she also was not listening to evaluate a
message for purposes of accepting or rejecting it (Lucas, 49) (Glass, 5). Tom was also not being a
good active listener because he got stuck on the first point that Sue was saying and did not listener to
the rest of the things that she had to say. Granted, Sue wasn t making a very reasonable point by trying

ABSTRACT: Wireless sensor networks is a self configured network means any node can join it or
leave it at any time. it is a self healing and self organizing. Self healing networks allow nodes to
reconfigure their link associations and find other pathways around powered down nodes or failed
nodes. Self organizing allows a network automatically join new node without the need for manual
interference. In this paper, we are using actor nodes to solve energy hole problem so that we can
reduce energy consumption and can enhance throughput of network.

instance, his desire to go hunting for the treasured amulet is what leads the entire family to the
Caribbean, causing the females to leave behind all their commitments, including Tate s education, due
to their inability to protest. Likewise, in Tate and Matthew s relationship, there is clear evidence of
male dominance because whatever Matthew desires is what Tate does, especially in terms of their
sexual relationship. Ray (Mr. Beaumont) waved a hand as Tate started to protest . The aforementioned
statement from the novel is also proof of Mr. Beaumont s patriarchal authority over his daughter. In
this scene, Tate tries to convince her dad to not partner up with the Lassiters in hunting for the amulet
since they only want to use the Beaumonts; but he would not even hear a word of it because he
believes that as a father, his decision is final and must not be countered. In the same vein, male
dominance in Matthew and Tate s relationship is seen in this excerpt (which is one of many) where
Matthew cuts Tate s statement short and imposes his decision on her instead: Matthew said Tate. We ll

portrays the males as very unemotional and almost cold hearted characters. Not even the death of

According to Harrison (2014), Whole Foods Market has grown into a natural and organic food empire,
with nearly 400 locations, more than 80,000 employees, and annual sales exceeding $12 billion, , and
it has continued to expand to 460 locations since then. Amazon is looking to amplify their business
through Whole Food s numerous locations all over the world. Whole Foods has acquired the nickname
Whole Paycheck due to the high prices of their groceries (Wingfield Merced, 2017, para. 8), and
because of this aspect, they struggled to compete with stores such as Walmart and Kroger who have
reasonable pricing. They often have better and healthier products, but consumers are drawn to lower
prices. Struggling to attract customer has led to Whole Foods losing a fifth of its value in the last three
years (Gensler, 2017, para. 5). With that being said, Amazon saw this as the perfect opportunity to
save Whole Foods s business, as well as help their own. On June 16th, Amazon announced that they
were going to buy Whole Foods in a $13.7 billion deal. In this deal, Amazon would pay $42 per share
in cash for the company, which represents a 27% premium to the closing price (Gensler, 2017, para.
2). Back in the day, many people thought of online stores and physical stores as two things that would
never overlap. Amazon and Whole Foods saw the potential in combining the two. In this arrangement,
consumers can order their goods online and

Camouflage Research Paper
Camouflage Techniques Blending In or Standing Out Sometimes You Do Both A previous article
talked about camouflage and how it might help you when you when conducting Counter Intelligence
(CI) missions. Camouflage can help you blend in or stand out, and in some cases, standing out in a
crowd is not always a bad thing even if you want to become the Gray Man, for example. First, let s be
clear the Gray Man is not gender specific, it is simply a name given to a concept, or a way of
conducting yourself if you will, and not to a specific gender. Male or females can, of course, adapt
some of the techniques to become invisible or to stand out as the case may be. Yes, standing out in a
crowd can be beneficial and it is a form of camouflage. For example,

Disadvantages Of Job Fairs
Job seekers typically search corporate websites first during the job search process. Posting jobs on
company websites casts a broad net, capturing the interest of the largest possible talent pool. Potential
employees are instantly exposed to company highlights, diversity information, employee benefits, and
work life balance programs (Cascio, 2016). Career fairs are typically industry specific which
automatically refines the talent pool. Most career fairs require an upfront participation fee however,
companies can discern qualified candidates from unqualified candidates rather quickly and save an
exorbitant amount of recruitment expenses (Career Trend, 2017). Also, this platform generates high
applicant flow. External recruitment allows companies to choose from a talent pool who could have
been recently trained or educated therefore having up to date knowledge and skills (Cascio, 2016).
Because external candidates have not been exposed to office politics and office norms they are more
likely to accept change and innovation (Cascio, 2016). Lastly, external recruitment provides a
convenient way to satisfy job place diversity requirements through hiring minorities and women
(Cascio, 2016). DISADVANTAGES OF RECRUITMENT ADVERTISING AND CAREER FAIRS
Several issues arise due to the large talent pool attracted from posting open positions on company
websites. Often times, applicants have an incomplete and/or inaccurate understanding of what the job
opening involves ,

Diane Nash Essay
You can thank Diane Nash for the integration at lunch counters. DIane Nash is an African American
civil rights leader and renowned activist, who was very involved in the most important equality and
desegregation movements and campaigns like the Freedom Rides, and the Selma Voting Rights
Campaign, the Dr. Martin luther King Jr. s Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and the Student
Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Diane Judith Nash was born May 15, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois.
She grew up in a middle class Catholic family, where her father, Leon Nash worked as a clerk in the
military during WWII and her mother, Dorothy Bolton Nash who worked as a keypunch

She was taken away by the intense racial segregation she saw in Tennessee and in turn she started
participating in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and began participating in
nonviolent protests. Then in 1960, she was designated as the student sit in movement s chairperson in
Nashville, Tennessee. On February 6, 1961, she participated in a sit in at a lunch counter in Rock Hill,
South Carolina, along with 3 students, Ruby Doris Smith, Charles Sherrod, and Charles Jones, they
were arrested. A week prior a group called the Friendship Nine preformed a lunch counter sit in which
had inspired Nash to perform more sit ins. After being arrested, both groups engaged in Jail No Bail
tactics, arguing that paying bail would validate their arrests and indicate acceptance of an immoral and
corrupt system. The Friendship Nine s convictions were overturned in 2015, 54 years

Types of Bridges
There are 4 major types of bridges. We have a separate page for each type of bridge. Please go to one
of the following pages. Beam The beam type is the simplest type of bridge. The beam bridge could be
anything as simple as a plank of wood to a complex structure. It is made of two or more supports
which hold up a beam. Arch In the arch type of bridge, weight is carried outward along two paths,
curving toward the ground. Suspension/Cable stayed The deck (trafficway) of a suspension bridge is
hung by cables which hang from towers. The cables transfer the weight to the towers, which transfer
the weight to the ground. Cable stayed bridges have towers, but cables from the towers go directly to
the road deck, instead of spanning from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, they are widely used as the deck elements of cable stayed and suspension bridges, where
the torsional stiffness of a box is important for the dynamics of such long span bridges. Truss bridges
A truss is a triangulated framework of elements that act primarily in tension and compression. It is a
light weight yet very stiff form of construction. Truss girders were common in early steel bridge
construction as welding had yet to be developed (pre 1930s) and rolled sections and plate sizes were
of a limited range. They are considered expensive to fabricate today, being labour intensive.
Maintenance issues have to be carefully addressed (for example, ease of access). However, they can
still show advantages in particular applications such as footbridges and railway bridges. Typical spans
in one form or other can range from 40m to 500m. Trusses may be used as girders below the deck
level, or as through girders with the deck at the bottom chord level. Such through truss girders
minimise the effective construction depth, and the length of approach embankments. Hence, they are
particularly suited to footbridges and railway bridges. The light weight yet stiff nature of truss bridges
also makes them ideal for demountable Bailey bridges. Trusses can also be used as arch elements (for
example, the Sydney Harbour Bridge) and as cantilever elements (for

Propaganda: a tool used to shape citizen thinking for the use of governmental goals in occasions

Essay about Tourette Syndrome
Tourette Syndrome
Works Cited Not Included
Tourette Syndrome was named for George Gilles de la Tourette, who first discovered the syndrome in
1885. Today there is still a mystery surrounding the disorder, it?s causes and it?s cures. But one of the
biggest mysteries is an associated behavior called coprolalia. This symptom is the uncontrolled
swearing or socially unacceptable utterances that some with Tourettes experience. Although despite
the media?s fascination, Tourette syndrome is not the cursing disease many believe it to be.
This baffling neurological disorder is characterized by repetitive motor and/or vocal tics. The
identifying symptom of TS seems to be tic disorders. ?A tic is a brief, repetitive, purposeless, ... Show

There are also utterances of insults and racial comments (Bruun 41). This seems the most commonly
recognized tic disorder of Tourettes. When most think of Tourette they automatically assume the
random cussing. Actually this seems to be a rare symptom. ?Coprolalia, the symptom that the general
public associates most often with TS, and it is not common?(Bruun 41).
It only occurs it a small minority of TS individuals. The numbers are an estimated 5 30% as reported
by the Tourette Syndrome Association in 1993. Some relate the coming on of an inappropriate word as
hard to control as a sneeze. They can feel it coming on but are unable to control it even with
medication (Michigan 1). One of the characteristics of coprolalia that sets it apart from just simply
swearing is that words come out compulsively. Most often when a person is angry but even if they are
just under stress (Kozlowski 1).
Causes of TS are still being debated and most leads are pointing to genetic factors. The understanding
of it seems to be incomplete and unfinished. But in 1999 researchers announced that they had found
evidence suggesting a link between chromosomes 4 and 8 and TS. Though there still is no clearly
identified gene to date. So all they can conclude is if one parent has TS there is a 50/50 chance for the
child to carry it unless it is liked by gender (Packer 5). A study done by Dr. Ruth Bruun indicated a
tendency toward a decrease in severity as patients grow in

He would never say the same of Merlin. While Tolkien drew much inspiration from Arthurian legend, especially Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte Darthur, Gandalf and Merlin are very different characters. Merlin is a man, one whose role in much of Arthurian legend is as a loyal servant of the Kings of Camelot, willing to do anything to help them. He also rarely performs serious acts of magic. Gandalf, on the other hand, is a warrior mage, an immortal being sent to protect the people of Middle Earth. He displays a powerful use of magic as well, and unlike Merlin, rallies the people of Middle Earth to his cause and gives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... King Uther, whom Merlin serves, falls in love with Igraine, the wife of a neighboring duke, but the duke refuses to allow Uther to have her, and Igraine is too loyal a woman to willingly commit adultery. So, Merlin devises a plan, telling Uther, this night ye shall lie with Igraine . . . and ye shall be like the duke her husband, Ulfias will be like Sir Brastias . . . and I will be like Sir Jordanus (Le Morte, 5). Merlin had disguised the men so well that they took on the appearance of other people, enough that Igraine believed Uthor was her husband. Merlin s greatest feats usually involve shapeshifting and disguise, as well as perhaps prophecy. After Merlin comes to Arthur in the guise of a child, and then an old man, to tell him about his parentage, he says, But I ever ought to be heavy, for I shall die a shameful death, to be put in the earth quick, and ye shall die a worshipful death (Le Morte, 23). This foreshadows Merlin s death at the hands of his protégé Nineve, and Arthur s death at the end of the book, and illustrates that Merlin has some knowledge of the events in the future. He demonstrates this once again after subduing Sir Pellinore, when he tells Arthur, And he shall tell you the name of your own son begotten of your sister that shall be the destruction of all this realm (Le Morte, 29). Through his powers of foresight, Merlin can pinpoint what will bring about the end of Camelot. Gandalf, although immortal and powerful, rarely shows these powers of foresight. • 4. The Disturbing World Of Human Trafficking Man is a wolf to man. This Latin proverb starts the reader on a harrowing journey into the disturbing world of human trafficking. John Bowe speaks to the typical American as he investigates the often hidden and dangerous side of globalization. Humans have a natural desire to get ahead in life, even if sometimes others have to suffer as a result. This attitude is the catalyst for what is known as modern day slavery. The author sums up his book perfectly when he says, We all seek control. Control equals power. Power corrupts. Corruption makes us blind, tyrannical and desperate to justify our behavior. Indeed he proves that statement true throughout the book. First we are introduced to Immokalee, Florida. Florida has approximately forty four Thousand farms and two hundred and eighty different crops including: tobacco, peppers, peanuts, radishes, sweet corn, snap peas, cucumbers and more. Two of the largest crops are oranges and tomatoes. Forty miles inland from Fort Myers Beach, you will find Immokalee. However, in the contemporary world, this idea is called Stockholm syndrome and it is more common than many people may assume. When you are alone with nobody to lean on, the one person who gives you any kind of care at all is someone you would attach yourself to. Katherine Minola is just one victim of this syndrome. In the play Taming of the Shrew, Shakespeare gives Kate Stockholm syndrome in order to portray how women are subservient to men. One may get this intention because at the beginning of Act IV, Petruchio eggs on a verbal argument between Kate and the Widow, seemingly allowing her to act disobedient and not like much of a lady. In reality, Petruchio knows that even though she may be acting disobedient to other people, she still treats him with the utmost respect and will be submissive to him in the end. Emily Detmer stated that Kate learns that to survive she must see the world from his perspective, just as she learns to bond with his side of abuse. (287) Detmer provides an interesting viewpoint, claiming that Kate s Stockholm syndrome was unconsciously self induced by her giving up the fight against Petruchio. She states that rather than taking comfort in Petruchio during abuse, Kate does so afterward when she makes the assumption that she deserves the abuse as aforementioned. This is simply another thought to entertain, did Kate induce her own Stockholm syndrome or did Petruchio? Regardless of who caused it, there is no question of whether or not it is something she ... • 7. A Brief Note On Science And Its Effects On The Middle Of A... Dylan Fox Professor Brinkerhoff 3/4/15 Advanced Ecology Midterm (1) Why is scale important in ecology? Ecology is the study of the distribution and abundance of organisms, their interactions between each other and their environment, and the structure and function of ecosystems. To this end, the scale (spatial, functional, temporal, organizational, etc.) at which we observe nature and the multitude of environments that comprise it is an extremely important factor in the study of ecology. Dumping sewage effluent in the middle of a small pond is not going to register even a slight disturbance on a global or even regional scale , but there is a still massive disturbance to the organisms at the small scale of that pond ecosystem. Similarly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Large scale variations in these gradients are easy to observe, like an ecotone transitioning grassland into desert. Smaller scale variations are harder to detect with the naked eye, and micro variations in habitat are harder to see still. The physical size of environmental heterogeneity / variation is not indicative of its importance to biodiversity or its ecological relevance, however, as Hutchinson reveals in his 1959 paper. He discusses the importance of the mosaic nature of the environment as a significant contributor to biodiversity. While large scale variations in habitat are certainly important factors in organismal diversity and are responsible for niche differentiation, smaller scale and even microscopic habitat variations are arguably just as (if not more) important factors that contribute to biodiversity around the globe. Because the vast majority of animal species on Earth are physical small, even the tiny variations in a landscape that define its mosaic nature allow for more numerous and specialized niche differentiations than larger (and less numerous) land animals can fill . Hutchinson s mosaic nature postulate was an extremely important breakthrough in modern Ecology, and helped spawn further research into the importance of examining nature at many different scales microscopic, macroscopic, and everything in between. Students at San Pasqual High School created a music video outlining the major concepts of microeconomics while at the same time relating each lesson to the real world, albeit in a humorous manner. The application of these ideas in the video ranged from determining the price of gas to finding a dance partner. The concepts addressed by the students including market structures, government intervention, elasticity, and scarcity, that all hold value in everyday life and an understanding of their importance can contribute significant benefits to the power of the consumer within the market. To begin, one of the first concepts introduced by the video was that of market structures. Market structures are categorized as a result of variables that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a consumer, knowledge of the various market structures allows for the understanding of the motivations and decisions made by certain firms, and can assist in the making of calculated purchases. For instance, the student in the video hypothesized that gas prices were rising because multiple gas firms within an oligopoly were colluding and artificially raising prices. With this information, one can choose to take their purchase to another firm who does not appear to be colluding and purchase a substitute good for a cheaper price. If enough consumers are aware of the strategies utilized by firms within markets structures such as monopolies and oligopolies, action can be taken in order to prevent costs of goods from reaching levels that only benefit producers. The power that each consumer s purchase holds is often underestimated, and if used wisely, can help to create a market that fosters innovation and rewards firms with fair prices. The next major topic the video focused upon was elasticity. Elasticity is a measure of how sensitive producers and consumers to changes in price of a good or a service. If a good/service is elastic, willingness to purchase changes significantly with a small change in price. Conversely, if a good/service is inelastic, the market does not react very much in response to a change in price. The concept of elasticity was introduced in the music video when a student was attempting to get away ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, while Europe was busy industrializing, Russia and Japan remained isolated with agriculture based economies. However, England s industrialization was privately incentivized. Rather than the government creating economic incentives to modernize, England s few natural resources and therefore ambition to take the resources of others caused private capitalists to invest money into building factories and growing industries. It covers several areas such as locking the computer room and the computer itself, protecting login accounts with passwords, encrypting network communication lines and use of file protection among others. Whitman (2011) points out that computer system security ensures that your computer does what it is supposed to, even if the users do what they should not do. Discretionary Access Control (DAC) is a type of access controls that provides protection to the files in a computer system. This type of control restricts access to files based on the identity of users or groups which they belong. It is discretionary and lets you tell the computer system who can have access to your files and therefore you can specify the type of access allowed. For example, you can allow anyone to read a particular file in the system, but allow only you to be able to change it. According to Whitman (2011), this type of control access is rarely used with high security systems because someone with permission to access files is able to pass that permission either directly or indirectly on to any other person. This capability poses a threat to the security of the files and can be dangerous to a high security system. An organization that requires high security, but the operating system only supports DAC, can compensate with the use of an Access Control List (ACL). Indeed, through these theories, there is a growing belief that human behavior can be predicted using certain environmental factors. As psychologists continue to inquire more into human behavior, it becomes clearer than certain aspect of the social, biological, psychosocial, and technological environments have the biggest sway on people s choice of actions. Often, human beings participate in a task because of the value they will derive from it, especially in terms of its economic and social importance. Social cognitive theory is of the thought that what a person perceives as right and its significance influences a course of action. A person s behavior is greatly influenced by what he or she believes to be right or wrong. Most importantly, their actions are influenced by the benefits they accrue from them. For this reason, the subjective probabilities that affect the choice of actions can be used to determine a person s next actions and ultimately, their behavior. • 29. Reflection On Teacher Inquiry As a learning support teacher and special educator, I find that I am continuously asking myself questions about my teaching and what is best for my students. I spend a great deal of time reflecting on how I can improve and change my practice and how I can best meet the needs of my students. From many of these reflections come questions and wonderings that often require deeper understanding and focus. Finding answers or possible solutions to these wonderings takes time if changes are truly going to be implemented. In fact, Dana and Yendol Hoppey (2009) suggest, As teachers seek out change and reflect on practice, the first step of their journey begins with brainstorming questions or wonderings for exploration (pg.20). One way to find answers to these wonderings is through problem based action research and teacher inquiry. Problem based action research and teacher inquiry allows educators to focus on specific wonderings and can ultimately provide educators with the information to make a difference in the classrooms and school. I know and understand that with teacher inquiry the engagement and involvement of the teacher is essential and the backbone of the inquiry. In contrast Personalism is a philosophy that says our mind and body are one and the same. Personalists regard personhood as the fundamental notion that which gives meaning to all reality. We will explore their differences through their impact on abortion, death and politics. Dualism is a philosophy that in its most basic form holds that the mind is comprised of a nonphysical substance, while the body is composed of the physical substance called matter. If the mind truly was a different substance then while the body dies the brain would still show some signs of life, because the mind would still be causally affecting it. Dualism and abortion. Because a dualism at its core it the belief that something is composed of two different parts, body and mind, a dualists could look at abortion two ways. The first way is that because the mind and body a different and only causally interact, then abortion does not end the life and so should not be considered murder. The second way is that because the mind and body ARE causally affecting one another then because you hurt one half it affects the other and a harmful way and should be considered and harmful act and outlawed. Because body and mind are one and the same both these views are wrong just on principle, but if we delve deeper the view that abortion end the life and thus shouldn t be considered murder is obviously the more harmful of the two. But it is especially harmful because this view separates the mind from the body and thus supports the pro abortionists view that the baby is just a bunch of cells and isn t sentient. And the second view is harmful, but not quite as harmful as the first. The second view marginalizes what happens during abortion, by saying that because the mind is causally affected by what happens to the body that the act is harmful is different then saying the act ... How I think this relates to the book is in Chapter 3 the book talks about listening. The book discusses things like being an active listener, as well as, critical and comprehensive listening. I think that both Sue and Tom Emmer were not being very good active listeners and were not listening critically or comprehensively. Sue wasn t listening to the idea the Tom had that they could not just keep Somali Muslims out of St. Cloud so she wasn t listening to understand the message of the speaker and she also was not listening to evaluate a message for purposes of accepting or rejecting it (Lucas, 49) (Glass, 5). ABSTRACT: Wireless sensor networks is a self configured network means any node can join it or leave it at any time. it is a self healing and self organizing. Self healing networks allow nodes to reconfigure their link associations and find other pathways around powered down nodes or failed nodes. Self organizing allows a network automatically join new node without the need for manual interference. In this paper, we are using actor nodes to solve energy hole problem so that we can reduce energy consumption and can enhance throughput of network. Keywords: WSN, AODV, Energy holes, routing, energy consumption I. INTRODUCTION A wireless ad hoc network is the collection of mobile nodes, without any requirement of centralized access point. Every node in the network, act as a router and packet forwarder. Now days, the ad hoc networking is used for the commercial uses. There are the many applications of the ad hoc networks, ad hoc network are using in the military and it is also using for the other security operations. Likewise, in Tate and Matthew s relationship, there is clear evidence of male dominance because whatever Matthew desires is what Tate does, especially in terms of their sexual relationship. Ray (Mr. Beaumont) waved a hand as Tate started to protest . The aforementioned statement from the novel is also proof of Mr. Beaumont s patriarchal authority over his daughter. In this scene, Tate tries to convince her dad to not partner up with the Lassiters in hunting for the amulet since they only want to use the Beaumonts; but he would not even hear a word of it because he believes that as a father, his decision is final and must not be countered. Truss bridges A truss is a triangulated framework of elements that act primarily in tension and compression. It is a light weight yet very stiff form of construction. Truss girders were common in early steel bridge construction as welding had yet to be developed (pre 1930s) and rolled sections and plate sizes were of a limited range. They are considered expensive to fabricate today, being labour intensive. Maintenance issues have to be carefully addressed (for example, ease of access). However, they can still show advantages in particular applications such as footbridges and railway bridges. Typical spans in one form or other can range from 40m to 500m. Trusses may be used as girders below the deck level, or as through girders with the deck at the bottom chord level. Such through truss girders minimise the effective construction depth, and the length of approach embankments. Hence, they are particularly suited to footbridges and railway bridges. It only occurs it a small minority of TS individuals. The numbers are an estimated 5 30% as reported by the Tourette Syndrome Association in 1993. Some relate the coming on of an inappropriate word as hard to control as a sneeze. They can feel it coming on but are unable to control it even with medication (Michigan 1). One of the characteristics of coprolalia that sets it apart from just simply swearing is that words come out compulsively. Most often when a person is angry but even if they are just under stress (Kozlowski 1). Causes of TS are still being debated and most leads are pointing to genetic factors. The understanding of it seems to be incomplete and unfinished. But in 1999 researchers announced that they had found evidence suggesting a link between chromosomes 4 and 8 and TS. Though there still is no clearly identified gene to date. So all they can conclude is if one parent has TS there is a 50/50 chance for the child to carry it unless it is liked by gender (Packer 5).
