Essay on Hallucinations and the Human Consciousness
Hallucinations and the Human Consciousness The idea of consciousness has been contemplated
throughout the course of neurobiology and behavior. When does it begin or end? And what,
precisely, is consciousness? Though researchers may only approximate the answers to these
questions, a few things may be inferred. Since the subconscious mind is the sleeping mind, the
conscious mind can be thought of as the awakened mind, the mind which shows itself to others
most often. (1) This is not to say that the conscious mind is reality, because (as will later be
explained) reality is quite subjective. (1) It is just that the conscious mind is the one most people
associate with reality. For example, people who experience an event while dreaming... Show more

(1,2) Since there are many causes of hallucinations lack of sleep, drugs, certain types of epilepsy,
and prolonged meditation not all causes are related to psychological disorders. (1) The second
important issue concerning hallucinations is that people who experience hallucinations
experience a lapse in perception. (1,2,3) People who hallucinate often know what they are
experiencing is caused by external factors. Therefore their perception of events is being altered,
but not to the extent where they believe in a different reality. (An alteration of reality is referred
to as a delusion, which is more serious than a hallucination.) (2) Our perception is not absolutely
real. Our brain filters the environment through sensory areas. The brain s cognitive ability
allows us to organize the stimulus from the external world and perceive it as the real world.
Basically, our perception is only an approximation of reality. Since we are already constantly
thinking through representations and symbols, it is not that difficult for our perception to be
skewed into hallucinations. While hallucinating, the sensory regions of the brain are overridden
by the memory areas of the brain. (1) The memory areas are now in charge and call upon the
sensory areas to deliver a hallucination with feeling, smell, sight, etc. Since all the senses as well
as familiar memories are involved in hallucinations (unlike dreams), perception is distorted for a
short while. (1) There are

Michael Hyman s The Ethics Of Psychoactive Ads
When companies are making an ad for a product. One of their goals is to make it sound like the
best thing ever and if you don t buy it your regret it. The other is to make it so people can
understand and relate to it in an instant. They need to meet both of these goals so that the
product or service that they are trying to sale has the highest possible chance of getting sold. So
in order to accomplice both of the goals they need to implement different strategies and
techniques. According to The Ethics Of Psychoactive Ads by Michael Hyman, There are three
simple practices that greatly increase the effectiveness of an advertisement. The first is to aim the
ad at the average person and not worry about specific situations that good make your ad look bad.
This is because the ad will encourage more people to get the product or service and also its
practically impossible to prevent an ad form offending someone.... Show more content on

She says The very nature of the advertising medium itself necessitates the use of symbols and
advertisement was to be effective, its message had to quickly absorbed and understood. thus, in
their depiction of ethnic groups, advertisers often used commonly held stereotypes. A great
example comes from the same journal when they show an ad from 1936 where they have a
black person helping a white guy with his bags at a hotel. When most people thought a service
worker at a hotel they thought of someone like him and because of this serotype the ad has no
reason to explain it the reader already knows. The other part is making a person relate to the
people in the ad. They do this by targeting a specific group of people. The journal Caveat Emptor:
Let the Buyer Beware does a great job showing this, If a company wants to sell its product to
women, very often there will be a baby in the ad. If a company is targeting men, very often a
beautiful woman will be the product s

Stereotypes In American History X
It is said that there is nothing harder to fight than a belief, especially when it is related to politics
or culture. American History X, a movie produced by Turman Morrissey Company and
distributed by New Line Cinema (Kaye, 1998), touches this topic in a sensitive way when Derek
becomes a Neo Nazi after a black male kills his father. Later, he would realize how his strong
belief could be changed, and discover the reason for his existence through his experiences in prison.
At the beginning of the film a high schooler named Derek is shown as the leader of a Neo Nazi
club. He dresses like a Punk, with long tight pants and boots; he also had his head shaved and
many tattoos printed all over his body, specially a big one on his chest of a Swastika. Derek, due
to the death of his father caused by a black man, was convinced that black people and minorities
were the problem. For him, his country was for Americans that were worth it, and not for illegals
or black thieves who only cause pain and problems to the community.
Derek s transformation began with a family fight. The table gathered by his mother, siblings,
girlfriend and stepfather was a place of political and racial conversation. Derek s racism was
imponent, and his stepfather Murray, because of trying to argue his ideals, was sent out of the
house; therefore, causing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

after leaving the place, was faced by a crowd of Neo Nazis, including Seth, one of his past friends,
with a gun. Derek, with certain skill, gets the weapon from Seth and finds a way to

The Great Dictator s Speech By Charlie Chaplin
In The Great Dictator s Speech spoken by Charlie Chaplin, a famous actor in the early 20th
century, seems to talk about the evils in the world and how mankind should all unite and make
peace with one another without the need for war, death, and petty rivalries. However, the goal
of the speaker in this speech actually points towards his desire to gain power, which he will then
abuse as it is written in the name, The Great Dictators Speech. The main purpose of the speech
itself is to inform people and all of humanity has the power of themselves rather than a dictator.
In other words: Freedom and peace in the world. Chaplin s character talks of how man has
fallen, succumbed to greed and misery, which then turns into war and bloodshed. He uses this to
convince people they all must set aside their differences to unite as one to prevent future
struggles in the world. In his first quote Chaplin says, We all want to help one another. human
beings are like that. We want to live by each other s happiness not by each other s misery. We
don t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. He is stating
in this text that the world would be a better place should people work together and exercise the
love of looking out for one another. If men weren t so preoccupied with greed and self
gratification, negative emotions like hate and misery would cease. The next quote states, The hate
of men will pass, and dictators will die, and the power they

The Harlem Renaissance s Influence On People s Views On...
Travel back in time several centuries ago to the 1900 s and imagine how different life would be
oil lamps/candles, outhouses or one toilet shared between several people, movies known as
flickers and lasting no longer than 10 minutes, no television, ice boxes as opposed to
refrigerators, baseball being the main sport that people followed as opposed to football, and
unless you were a White male, your lifestyle was not filled with many opportunities or rights. With
slavery being abolished not too long ago, discrimination and segregation was still widely accepted
and practiced. Life was much different back then. Although people were heavily being judged for
the color of their skin, a movement called the Harlem Renaissancehad a major influence on people s
views on African Americans across the United States. The Harlem Renaissance created a new Black
cultural identity through literature, music, theater, art, and politics. One of the leading voices was
Langston Hughes, a writer whom wrote realistic portrayals, both suffering and victories of African
American lifestyles through poetry, short stories, novels, and plays. Through short, effective, and
expressive words, Langston Hughes s poetry promoted African American culture and also addressed
the oppression and injustice of African Americans.
Our story starts from year 1916 to 1970, when more than 6 million African Americans relocated
from the Southern states to the Northern states in an epidemic known as the Great Migration.

Arian Controversy Analysis
In the 4th and 5th centuries, the early church was going through change. After a period of
persecution against Christians, the Edict of Milan established a policy for the toleration of
Christianity under Constantine. Constantine was the first Roman emperor to embrace Christianity
and he himself became a Christian. The Ecumenical Councils were encouraged by Constantine. The
gatherings included church leaders and others who met to affirm the teachings of the church and to
tackle heresy. The topic of controversy was over the relationship between the Father, the Son and
the Holy Spirit.
The Arian controversy caused Constantine to call for the Council of Nicaea, which was the first
of the Ecumenical Councils. Arias denied the deity of Jesus. He believed that Jesus was
subordinate to God the Father and that the Holy Spirit was subordinate to Jesus. Arias believed
that the Father was God, but Jesus and the Holy Spirit were not. Instead, he believed that Jesus
was a creature who had a beginning, while God was eternal and had no beginning. He did not
believe that Jesus was of the same substance [homoousios] of the Father. Athanasius stood up at the
Council of Nicaea and opposed the beliefs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that the Nicene Creed is supported by Scripture. John 1:14 says, The Word [Logos]
became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and
only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. And 1 John 5:7 8 says, For there are
three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. I find it
encouraging that leaders of the 4th and 5th century church helped define and defended the Trinity
doctrine from heresy. It is important that contemporary Christians learn about the Nicene Creed
because it is part of the history that brought us [the invisible church] to where we are,

Evaluation Of A Quantitative Correlational Research Design
Methodology
Design Overview
A quantitative correlational research design was used to measure the effect that living situations
/familial support has on student s GPAs. An online survey (Appendix 2) was used to collect data on
independent and dependent variables. The independent variables included living situation (e.g.
living with parents, spouse/significant other, spouse and kids, friends/roommates, alone, or with
grandparents), support systems available to the students in the DSN program, interruptions that
were experienced by the students, the students preferred location to study, and how many hours a
week was spent studying. The independent variables were factors that were considered to have a
possible effect on GPA. The primary dependent variable was GPA; though how many hours a week
spent studying was also used as a dependent variable against the independent variable of familial
support.
Sample and Testing
An online survey consisting of ten questions was sent out to all students enrolled at DSN. A total
of 638 students were invited to participate in the study. Students from the DSN Bachelor of
Science in Nursing (BSN) completion program, BSN first degree program, Associate Degree of
Nursing (AND) program, and Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) to ADN program participated in
the survey resulting in a total sample size of 100 students.

Has to do with the citizen redistricting committee and gerrymandering. In the old rule politician
could draw lines for registering during a election. They would draw district lines based on the
census which left places either democratic and republican. The problem cause a problem the
politician due not campaign anymore , because they already know they will win. when policiation
due not campaign the are also less like to to compromise and come to agreement. The new rule is
the citizen redistricting committee. now instead of politician drawing the lines, a group of citizen
do it. They job is to stop gerrymandering and also to not violate any of the voting right act when
drawing this lines.
The third rule the the budget rule. the old rules was that you need the majority of votes to pass a
budget rule. they would need about two thirds of votes for it to pass. This rules caused a few
problem like if the majority did not like the budget proposal that it was thrown away. Alo this
cause to be late budget since it is hard for a budget to pass. It also cause use to borrow money
from others since the is no budget rule, leading to us having a wall of debt. Now new budget rule is
simple majority. A simple is a majority in which the highest number of votes cast for any one
candidate, issue, or item exceeds the second highest number, while not constituting an absolute
majority. With having this kind of voting

Abstract This paper presents the original findings of an approach to adopting the bit stream signal
to control a system. It contains the initial design process and simulations of a bit stream based PID
controller to control and stabilize the output of a proposed Capacitive Power Transfer system in the
discrete time domain. Processing The simulated results use MATLAB s Simulink and illustrate the
potential performance of the controller. Compared against simulations of a similar nature in
continuous time, the bit stream implemented system yields near identical results.

The Detrimental Effects Of Sleep Deprivation On Cognitive
Introduction Sleep deprivation is a phenomena which has been extensively studied on its own, but
the effects of sleep deprivation on cognition and working memory in particular have been an area
of interest to a lot of researchers. The research done on this topic has collectively found that sleep
deprivation has detrimental affects on cognition. Studies such as the experiment conducted by Joo,
Yoon, Koo, Kim, and Hong in 2012 outline how sleep deprivationcan result in deficits in cognition.
The study explored how 24 hours of wakefulness affects cognitive functioning and stress hormones
(Joo, Yoon, Koo, Kim, Hong, 2012). In this study participants underwent electroencephalographic

If the results of this study align with the projected findings, future research can be conducted on the
basis of the conclusion of this study. This study could provide a backdrop for research in the future
that aims to better understand the relationship of sleep deprivation on different areas of human
cognition. Potential future studies could use the results from this study to conduct experiments to
improve general knowledge about how learning and retaining information are affected by lack of
sleep, which could ultimately help certain demographics, like students, who tend to rely heavily on
working memory while sleep deprived. The study will have a large generalizable sample to

Essay Enlightenment from The Tao Te Ching
Enlightenment from The Tao Te Ching
The Tao Te Ching can be helpful to all, and the reading of it may be enlightening. Reading the Tao
can give much insight on the challenges and dangers that humans must face in this world, how a
person should live his life, the dangers of a powerful ruler, how the state should rule, how citizens
should serve the state, and the messages or forewarnings for us today.
Mankind has the tendency to be self conscious, greedy, and materialistic, and human history shows
this to be the case in all societies. Even in China they suffer from the selfish aspects of humans.
The Tao states on page 9, Chase after money and security/and your heart will never unclench. It is

On the other hand the Tao explains that one should lead a simple lifestyle. A simple life, is just that,
simple. A person can lead a very enjoyable life if one does not have worries about money. The Tao
states on page 8, In dwelling, live close to the ground./In thinking, keep to the simple./In conflict, be
fair and generous./In governing, don t try to control./In work, do what you enjoy./In family life, be
completely present. When one keeps their living conditions simple, are fair to others, and enjoys
their work, life can be very fulfilling. The Tao states that the family arrangement is the most
honorable virtue, and each family member must contribute to family unity according to page
54, Let the Tao be present in your life/and you will become genuine./Let it be present in your
family/and your family will flourish. Having a successful family life should be everyone s goal,
but this simple statement is rarely what we see in the western world today. Instead of unity we
either see one out of every two marriages ending in divorce, or we see disunited families. Rarely do
we see united families, and when we do it is very refreshing.
A ruler, in China, is the most honored person in the Chinese society, but the ruler has an obligation
to be a moral and upright individual. The Tao addresses these individuals on page

film techniques to show how Salim s ambition is being used against him. Maman see s this

How Pop Music Affects Society
It has been many centuries since the early days of music where it was restricted to classical tunes
and melodic melodies. In this time music has evolved to something of individual celebration,
achievement, and even a battle call for the rights of people everywhere expressed though a large
range of musical genres and styles. Music can be split into different sections based on how it is
produced, what it contains musically, and how it affects the audience through language or
influence. Although every genre of music has a different purpose and twist, pop musicis the most
popular in today s society because of how it is produced, its chord progression, common and

Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability of
Chord Progression on Brain Response: An MEG Study, showed that structures commonly found
in pop music created spikes in the right anterior portion of the brain, when specific chords are
played in dissonance to the original key, such as a Neapolitan sixth. Pop music has this effect
because it is commonly in a major key and has little to no modulation. This creates a soothing
effect that spikes the brain causing the release of serotonin making the listener happier the more
they listen. Pop music also creates a soothing and pleasing tone that is both powerful and euphoric
through the use of the standard chord progression I V vi VI. This chordal progression is used in
many pop music melodies, choruses, and even establishes a commonality through major structures
that are both pleasing to the ear and the mind. By creating these melodic structures, pop music is
able to give its listeners chordal structure statistical probability. Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and,
Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability, found that year old children were able to
predict tonal sequences found in typical pop music. This is most commonly related to the resolution
to the tonic of any given key. Pop music uses this by relying on strong chords within the key, such
as the dominant and mediant because of their strong relation to the tonic. Other music styles such as
jazz and even some techno rely on weaker chords that stem from the leading tone and sub
dominant. This weak structure calls for resolution and even to the untrained ear tend to cause strain
and discomfort making them less favorable and not follow the conditional probability found in
pop. Pop music s structure also establishes clear and defined parts starting with the verse and then
moving on to a chorus, before returning to the second verse to

so rapidly. It is sometimes really hard to believe that the laptops, tablets, smartphones and
touchpads that we use today are descendants of the supercomputer that once used to occupy the
whole room. During a press conference many years ago, Bill Gates offered his opinion that
anything greater than 500MB of hard drive memory would be pointlessly unnecessary. But as
the time passed and the technology advanced bringing much more new valuable stuff, there
echoed a voice, more or less a chaos, You have insufficient memory! . Memory management had
many issues that different researchers came across but above all is the memory size that fills up
within no time and we are again in search of more memory to store our data which we can t
afford to lose. In the past days, computers used to store data in their Random Access Memory
(RAM) that was surely not enough to store large amount of data and was even volatile
(temporary). This was the reason Disks were introduced and now are widely used in our daily life.

Intermediate Precision Lab Report
4.7 a Intermediate Precision In practice the laboratory is usually interested in the extent of
variability that occurs over time when it operates the method. This is called intermediate precision
and describes the variability when the method is deployed in the same laboratory, perhaps on
different pieces of equipment, and using different analysts on the staff. It is predictable that this
will give a value between repeatability and reproducibility. Sample Preparations Stock solution of

The Advantages And Pros And Cons Of A Wireless Body Sensor...
Abstract The growth of population now a day is resulting in immense pressure on healthcare
service. Population residing in remote areas such as villages are devoid of good health check up
facility. Therefore it is utmost necessary that to make it accessible to them. A basic Wireless
Body Sensor Network (WBSN) consisting of sensors that can collect the physiological data of a
person is used for this purpose. The collected data is then transported to the doctors for its analysis,
which can be efficiently done using VANETs. In addition to that, data can be automatically
analysed by smart vehicles to check for emergency situations. In such case any nearby healthservice
can be contacted and rushed to the patient. An analysis of the various architectures for this purpose
is done in this paper and pros and cons are investigated to enlighten the future research.

American Attitudes Toward Interracial Marriages
American attitudes toward interracial marriage illustrate an awkward historical moment because
after the interracial marriage law changed, one would think black/white marriages are common but
they are the least. Over the years, interracial marriages has increased by a few percent, mainly from
other races that are not black/white. In America, racismstill exist even when laws are changing.
A color blind ideology is simply stating what is different between people like stereotypes but at
the same time believing what is said or do is not racist. It is a new way of racism that people have
adopted today, ticking others to conceive that race/ethnicity is not the issue.

Catching A Sport
Sports have always been competitive by nature with each one having a vast number of viewers
and fans that will defend their sport with all their might and slander or trash talk on all the other
sports. The word sport is generally associated with athletics such as football but when it comes to
a non athletic then it becomes a problem for people to define it as a sport. Sport comes from Old
French desport meaning leisure . Adding to this idea, Sport Accord, the international committee of
sports, defines a sport by having an element of competition, provide no harm to animals, not rely
on equipment from a single supplier, and not rely on any luck . This is why everyone thinks of
sports as football, basketball, soccer, etc., but those are not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Catching is an essential skill in football so in order to master the skill an individual must first learn
how to catch and throw. Learning how to perform the skill at a faster rate is the next step after
knowing how to perform the skill. After you learn how to throw the ball then you can start
practicing with the speed of the throw. When you have learned the skill and have practiced to
perform it well then you practice to perform it consistently by being fatigued, under stress, or
under pressure. Overall practicing a skill takes a tremendous amount of time and effort that
separates the level between all the competitors in a sport. Skills don t necessarily have to be
physical they can be related to mental processes too. For example, in chess where one must try
and predict and read their opponents next possible move, it requires the use of the mental state
to be able to counter the opponent s moves. Every sport whether physical or mental contains a
multitude of skills that must be mastered by the player. This is what makes every sport
extremely tough to compete in due to the tremendous amount of practice that must be done to
be great at every possible skill. A player s weaknesses lie where skills are either lacking or
underdeveloped such as in basketball where there may be a player that is great at passing, but has
mediocre scoring skills. Skills are essential in order to play any sport since they apply to each
different ability that is performed in the sport. Therefore, applying those skills to something in a
competitive manner makes a

Research Methodology For Research Design
3.1 Introduction
This chapter presents the research methodology employed in this thesis in respect of the research
objectives by ensuring the application of the appropriate methodology. Among other things the
research design, population, sampling procedures and sample size, data collection technique and
research instrument were discussed. Finally, the data analysis and research limitations were looked
at.
.
3.2 Research design
Research design constitutes the entire strategy for data collection including the specific data
analysis techniques or methods the researcher intends to use. Three major approaches are mostly
considered by researcher during research methodology. These are quantitative, qualitative or mixed
approaches. However, Ghauri et al. (1995) maintained that quantitative and qualitative methods are
two types of research methods mostly used by researchers.
According to Bryman Bell (2007), the quantitative method entails systematic empirical studies
which involve quantifying through the assistance of mathematics and statistics. Data is collected
and transformed into numbers which are empirically tested to see if a relationship can be found in
order to be able to draw conclusions from the results gained. On the other hand, qualitative research
does not rely on statistics or numbers rather qualitative research often refers to case studies where
the collection of information can be received from a few studying objects.
According to Biggam (2008) quantitative

lives. They originally grew in Peru but spread throughout South America and later in Europe.
Potatoes were able to thrive in Ireland, Scandinavia, Germany, and Poland. Potatoes were able to
feed many people and improve food supply. The potato was able to supply a steady amount of
calories and nutrients which was able to provide a better life for people of the Old World. Potatoes
quickly spread throughout Europe and became an important crop. Today people still use the potato
for food and other uses such as making stamps and soothing headaches. When growing potatoes

the British North American colonies to be published. She is also the most prominent Puritan Figure

sensuality alluding to sexual desire. In this case, telling her husband she needs his love and
cannot live without it; she claims that only his love makes her happy and can only satisfy her

they should cherish their love for each other as fully as possible so when they both died, their

Essay On Grendel And Beowulf
In the novel Grendel and the epic poem Beowulf the reader receives a better experience through a
first person point of view. In John Gardner s Grendel which is written in first person the reader is
constantly engaged. The authors use of first person provides the reader of Grendel s thoughts and
emotion. While, in the epic poem Beowulfwhich is written in 3rd person does not give the reader
any personal connection.
By using first person we have more insight on the characters inner emotions and the reader gains
justification of why the characters act in a specific way. Beowulf thirteen fearless followers
venture onto geatland. It was a paved track a path that kept them in marching order their male
shirts glinted hard and hand linked the high gloss iron of their Armour rang this quote from the
epic poem Beowulf just describes what is happening it s boring, we also don t get any insight on
his thoughts feelings and emotions. However, in Grendel when he met Beowulf for the first time
we knew exactly what he was thinking, I am suddenly annoyed no longer amused by his stupidity
Grendel was getting along with Beowulf somewhat but after talking to him for a little bit Grendel
was getting annoyed. First person is a lot better because it gives the reader thoughts and emotions
that third person can not provide.
The use of third person adds enormous amounts of unimportant detail which makes the reader lose
interest. Third person makes the story boring when Grendel and Beowulf

The Three Laws Of Thermodynamics
Thermodynamics...
Thermodynamics is a branch in physics that deal with heat and temperature and how they are
related with energy and work. There are 3 laws of thermodynamics which are used almost every
day and some of them are present in our body.
Thermoregulation:
Thermoregulation is process by which our body keeps our internal body temperature constant. Our
optimum body temperature is 37В°C to 40В°C. Whenever our body temperature increases or
decreases our internal system brings our temperature back to normal.
As the second law of thermodynamics states, the energy will spread from a high concentration to
low concentration or heat moves from high temperature to low temperature , similarly when our
body temperature increases our internal system tries to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Higher the entropy the more disordered is the system. As the second law of thermodynamics states,
the entropy of a system will either increase or remain the same.
Entropy can be used in monitoring a patient s EEG. EEG is Electroencephalography which is a
method used to record a patient s electric activity of the brain. It measure the voltage fluctuation of
ionic current within the neurons of the brain.
Mainly there are two entropy parameters, the fast reacting Response Entropy (RE) and the more
steady and robust State Entropy (ST). State entropy consists of the entropy of the EEG signals 32
Hz. Response Entropy includes high frequencies up to 47 Hz.

often CCP s get to observe patients on a daily basis they are able to pick up on behavior patterns

their daily lives. Some CCPs are designated to work one on one with a single client. A CCP in
this role is often assigned as such because a client has a particular need. Such needs could include

The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms
Since its inception in 1982 the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, very much like its
primary architect Pierre Trudeau, has been one of the most celebrated yet controversial elements of
Canadian politics and governance. Revealing how this dynamic emerged requires a nuanced
understanding of the motivation behind the Charter and the techniques it employed to succeed. The
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, like the entire patriation process, was motivated by and
mobilized support through, constitutionally enshrining democratic core values, multiculturalism
and a sense of nationalism. However, it should not be seen as merely a symbolic gesture on the
part of Britain and Canadaor merely a strengthening of core values. Instead it was a fundamental
reinvention of Canadian federalism that shifted power away from the provinces to the federal
government and from the Parliament to the courts. This was accomplished by incentivizing
provincial acceptance, developing common interests, and, as a result, formalizing a national
identity where the protection and expansion of core values was encouraged as fundamental. This
dynamic allowed the reinvention to, by and large, succeed. An understanding of the provisions and
effects of the Charter and how it ultimately succeed as a re invention of the Canadian Government
requires knowledge of the patriation process. Before 1982, the formal power to amend the
Canadian Constitution was held by the British Parliament. This was seen

Values And Chivalry In The Lais Of Marie De France
Although the Lais of Marie de France may seem to be ordinary tales of knights and chivalry, each
explores the complicated issues surrounding love, loyalty, and gender. Marie uses four stories in
particular to make statements on the relationships between men and women of that time.
The first story follows the tale of a knight named Guigemar. Despite his noble qualities and
popularity, he never displayed the slightest interest in love (44). This all changes one day when
Guigemar goes hunting. He shoots a stag and mortally wounds it, but the arrow rebounds and
pierces his thigh. The dying stag tells him his wound won t heal until he is cured by a woman
who will suffer for [his] love more pain and anguish than any other woman has ever known, and
[he] will suffer likewise for her (44).
This wound acts as a physical manifestation of the incompleteness of Guigemar s life. He is
wounded with lack of romantic love, and fulfilling that need is the only way for him to become
whole again. The stag also introduces an important aspect of courtly love. Both parties must
willingly suffer for each other. The true virtue of love is a balance of power and equality in the
relationship, something that Marie de France emphasizes throughout the story.
The wounded Guigemar finds an opulently decorated boat and rests there, but the boat carries him
across the sea before he can get off. It takes him to a kingdom where the exceedingly jealous king
guards his wife and puts her in an enclosure

Real Identity Research Paper
Social media has become a huge part in any person s life. In today s society, knowing how to use
the internet or social media is almost as important as knowing how to read. Bid companies know
how to use these sites to their advantage. Everyday these companies are spending millions of
dollars to have sponsored ads that people will just scroll past without giving it a second thought.
This is how big companies spread the word about their products. They use these sites to advertise
what they have to offer. These companies choose ads that they think will most likely attract you as
a buyer. Sometimes these companies really know their viewer and sometimes they are way off. My
advertisingidentity and real identity have many similarities and differences.
One of the many difference I mentioned before between my advertising identity and my real
identity is my age. These people creating ads do not know who I am or how old I am. In real life I

Walker discovered her personal identity when she got into an accident that left a scar not only in
her physical but into her life, she was insisted on a fight, and she even lost her self confidence and
same as Cofer s she faced discrimination and was disrespected. It was stressed in Walker s, after
months, of torture at the school, my parents decide to send me back to our old community, to
my old school. (444) and also when she said that she beat a child at her old school who
continually calls her one eyed bitch (445). On the other hand, Walker s discovery differs from
Staples because she was not feared nor misjudged. The epiphanies the three writers experienced,
led them into their discovery of their personal knowledge and identity. The difficulties of
personal knowledge/identity reflects on a person s illiteracy. The time they were hardly
surviving from people s prejudice was the time they do not have idea how people see them
outside of their island, county and how people judge them by their physical appearance. As a
result of not knowing that information, they were not aware of how they will dress or act in

personal identity, Walker learned to to believe on her self, and gained her self confidence again and

Impact Of Capital Market On Economic Growth
The Capital market in any country is one of the major pillars of long term economic growth and
development. The market serves a broad range of clientele, including different levels of
government, corporate bodies and individuals within and outside the country. Capital formation
entails accumulated savings out of the current incomes of either organization or individual. It is
investment in fixed assets which in part is financed with monies raised through the capital market
(Al Faki, 2006). The Capital market has been one of the major means through which foreign funds
are injected into most economies and the tendency towards a global economy is more visible there
than anywhere else. It is therefore, quite valid to state that the growth of the capital market has
become one of the barometers for measuring the overall economic growth of a nation (Emenuga,
1998).
The theoretical framework on the effects of capital market on economic growth dates back to the
work of Schumpeter, (1911) which explained that a well developed financial system can facilitate
technological innovation and economic growth through the provision of financial services and
resources to investors. The above argument of Schumpeter, (1911) was later advanced as the
McKinnon Shaw, (1973) hypothesis, which is a policy analysis tool for developing countries with
strong recommendation and high priority on the efficiency of financial systems in facilitating
capital accumulation and financial intermediation.

On The Waterfront Analysis
In the 1954 film, On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, Terry Malloy, played by Marlon
Brando, an inarticulate former prizefighter in his late twenties, serves as a petty errand boy for
the union head, Johnny Friendly. The Hoboken, New Jersey port across the river from
Manhattan, is the setting of the film where gangs run the docks and work in the area. The film
shows realism in many different cinematic and thematic ways throughout the film. In the sense
of cinematically, this film was filmed on the actual docks of New Jersey in the winter time.
Kazan is able to brilliantly create the realistic port feel by filming on scene and using the natural
surroundings as his canvas . The cargo ships in the background coming in and out, the slummy
docks where men find work, and the local bars from the area. These natural settings and props
made the film real and alive as it was what was actually going on in the ports. The background
sounds on the dock ships whistles and chains clanging through metal loops add to the realistic
aural environment. Kazan also uses the natural cold and winter to film in which give the film a
realistic mise en scГЁne. Breaths are visible and steam up in the bone cold air. A small detail like
this suggests the brutal treatment these dock workers face daily, not only from the corrupt union
officials but from the elements themselves. The visible breaths also affirm the unique existence of
each character. Kazan casted not just actors to play these though

The Unknown Saga Men Of Icelandic Family Sagas
The unknown saga men of Icelandic Family Sagas who wrote in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries
utilized a plethora of writing techniques to portray the lives of native Icelanders from roughly 930
to 1030. Throughout this period, Family Sagas progressed from choppy, scattered life stories to
literary masterpieces laced with dark humor and adventure. However, sagas sometimes stray from
the truth due to the saga men s tendencies to romanticize the past, use interstitial expansion, and
edit manuscripts to fit Christian morals. Written in the 9th and 10th centuries (and put together in
the 13th century) The Book of Settlements is an important reference for all sagas about to be
discussed. It takes place during the age of settlement (870 to... Show more content on

The organization of Olaf s saga is loosely additive in the fact that none of the chapters seem to
lead to each other and chapters are often repeated. Such as chapters 37 and 55 where it is the
same story of king Olaf slapping a queen, but in one he does so because she wouldn t convert to
Christianity, and in the other he does so because he was caught giving her a false gold arm
band. This seemingly accidental repetition and misplacement of narratives could have happened
for a variety of reasons, but the most likely is that since Oddr wrote the saga as he interviewed
people, he would be forced to put narratives pertaining to earlier stories at the end of the
manuscript because there was no way for him to copy and paste and add it to the beginning.
Since all chapters after 25 were written from solely oral accounts, interstitial expansion plagues
the Saga to the point that it is hard to tell what actually happened and what is completely made
up, for example the scene where Olaf gets married in Winland probably never even happened.
Usually after demonic or paranormal activities are mentioned, Oddr interludes to write in his own
thoughts. An example of this happening is in chapter 43 when Odin appears to Olaf. Oddr feels it
necessary to comment his own thoughts due to the monostatic lens that he has, because he is after
all a monk writing in a monastery. When he writes about paranormal events he feels the need to let
his audience know that he doesn t believe

Historiographical Discussion Of The Duel Between Burr And...
A Historiographical Discussion of the Duel Between Aaron Burr and
The duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton holds a significant relevance in
American history and should be examined within the context of early American culture and politics.
The recent historiography of the incident provides us with a complex, evolving web of conflicting
interpretations. Since the day of this tragic duel, contemporaries and historians have puzzled over
why these two prominent American statesmen confronted each other on the Plains of Weehawken.
What circumstances or events could have motivated two of the most brilliant political minds in
America to endanger their lives and reputations by taking aim at each other on that dismal day? ...

J. Lee and Conalee Levine Schneidman argued it was not Burr who was the instrument, but rather
Hamilton himself or rather Hamilton s distorted perception of Burr as his evil self that promulgated
the duel.3 This article entitled Suicide or Murder? The Burr Hamilton Duel, published in a 1980
edition of the Journal of Psychohistory, represents the first example of
psycho history to be discussed in this paper. The authors presented Aaron Burr as introverted and
self absorbed, a man forever compared to the saintliness of his namesake. His father was a
reverend and President of the College of New Jersey and his mother was the daughter of
Jonathan Edwards. Therefore, the Schneidmans argued, Burr had quite the reputation to uphold,

to evaluate what they have learnt or in the case of NVQs, how they are performing against the

When teachers classroom assessments become an integral part of the instructional process and a
central tenet in their efforts to help students learn, the benefits of assessment for both students and
teachers will be boundless. The purpose of these assessments is to ascertain the student s levels of
understanding and see if there is any room for improvement and whether there are any weaknesses
so as to be able to correct them. My focus is to improve my assessments to make them motivating
and to enhance student learning.
Assessment challenges that have been identified are as follows: Figuring out what really is
important for students to know and be able to do in history.
Teaching the skills of doing history in a world of testing that often seems to value only factual
knowledge.
Identifying and using assessments that provide teachers with better information than only multiple
choice exams.
Getting students motivated to do a good job on essays and other written work.
Helping students learn to improve their own work and produce quality products.
Holding students accountable for quality work, as opposed to them just turning in something.
The assessments have to be conducted and recorded in accordance with internal and external
processes and requirements. I use these assessments to evaluate my practice and to identify any
opportunities for improvement.

The Ultimate Entrepreneur Essay example
The Ultimate Entrepreneur
In 2002 it was reported that George W. Bush told the then prime minister Tony Blair that The
problem with the French is that they don t have a word for entrepreneur . Putting it kindly, this was
a mistake. Translated from French, an entrepreneur is someone who undertakes something. Of
course it carries a much wider meaning than that in the modern English definition. An entrepreneur
is someone who takes an idea and builds it into something great and successful. Someone with
vision, drive and creativity, and the will to make it happen, often against difficult odds. Or
certainly that s the general perception. Does this person have to be a genius? Above average
intelligence? What defines an entrepreneur really? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an entrepreneur you re in the uncertainty business, so you need a high tolerance for risk. You
need to be willing to fail several times if necessary in order to get it right in the end, and you
need to be flexible in your thinking. Your idea may need to change as your journey unfolds, and
you need to be open enough to accept and work with that change. Uncertainty is a scary place, so
you will need to deal with the fear associated with that. Fear of not knowing where next month s
pay cheque is coming from, fear of failure. You must become accustomed to insecurity as a life
choice. And you ll need the ability to think creatively so you can change perspective to solve all
those inevitable problems that come up.
So far then we have vision, passion, persistence, high risk tolerance, flexible and creative thinking.
Throw in resilience for good measure. Not many people have these qualities up front, or maybe
more importantly, are willing to adopt them. It is argued that our education system does nothing to
promote entrepreneurship either. With its emphasis on conformity and thinking inside the box , it
arguably stifles creativity. It is interesting to note that people like Richard Branson, Alan Sugar and
Steve Jobs didn t finish higher education, and Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard. I m not saying

  • 2. Essay on Hallucinations and the Human Consciousness Hallucinations and the Human Consciousness The idea of consciousness has been contemplated throughout the course of neurobiology and behavior. When does it begin or end? And what, precisely, is consciousness? Though researchers may only approximate the answers to these questions, a few things may be inferred. Since the subconscious mind is the sleeping mind, the conscious mind can be thought of as the awakened mind, the mind which shows itself to others most often. (1) This is not to say that the conscious mind is reality, because (as will later be explained) reality is quite subjective. (1) It is just that the conscious mind is the one most people associate with reality. For example, people who experience an event while dreaming... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (1,2) Since there are many causes of hallucinations lack of sleep, drugs, certain types of epilepsy, and prolonged meditation not all causes are related to psychological disorders. (1) The second important issue concerning hallucinations is that people who experience hallucinations experience a lapse in perception. (1,2,3) People who hallucinate often know what they are experiencing is caused by external factors. Therefore their perception of events is being altered, but not to the extent where they believe in a different reality. (An alteration of reality is referred to as a delusion, which is more serious than a hallucination.) (2) Our perception is not absolutely real. Our brain filters the environment through sensory areas. The brain s cognitive ability allows us to organize the stimulus from the external world and perceive it as the real world. Basically, our perception is only an approximation of reality. Since we are already constantly thinking through representations and symbols, it is not that difficult for our perception to be skewed into hallucinations. While hallucinating, the sensory regions of the brain are overridden by the memory areas of the brain. (1) The memory areas are now in charge and call upon the sensory areas to deliver a hallucination with feeling, smell, sight, etc. Since all the senses as well as familiar memories are involved in hallucinations (unlike dreams), perception is distorted for a short while. • 3. Michael Hyman s The Ethics Of Psychoactive Ads When companies are making an ad for a product. One of their goals is to make it sound like the best thing ever and if you don t buy it your regret it. The other is to make it so people can understand and relate to it in an instant. They need to meet both of these goals so that the product or service that they are trying to sale has the highest possible chance of getting sold. So in order to accomplice both of the goals they need to implement different strategies and techniques. According to The Ethics Of Psychoactive Ads by Michael Hyman, There are three simple practices that greatly increase the effectiveness of an advertisement. The first is to aim the ad at the average person and not worry about specific situations that good make your ad look bad. This is because the ad will encourage more people to get the product or service and also its practically impossible to prevent an ad form offending someone.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She says The very nature of the advertising medium itself necessitates the use of symbols and advertisement was to be effective, its message had to quickly absorbed and understood. thus, in their depiction of ethnic groups, advertisers often used commonly held stereotypes. A great example comes from the same journal when they show an ad from 1936 where they have a black person helping a white guy with his bags at a hotel. When most people thought a service worker at a hotel they thought of someone like him and because of this serotype the ad has no reason to explain it the reader already knows. The other part is making a person relate to the people in the ad. They do this by targeting a specific group of people. The journal Caveat Emptor: Let the Buyer Beware does a great job showing this, If a company wants to sell its product to women, very often there will be a baby in the ad. If a company is targeting men, very often a beautiful woman will be the product s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Stereotypes In American History X It is said that there is nothing harder to fight than a belief, especially when it is related to politics or culture. American History X, a movie produced by Turman Morrissey Company and distributed by New Line Cinema (Kaye, 1998), touches this topic in a sensitive way when Derek becomes a Neo Nazi after a black male kills his father. Later, he would realize how his strong belief could be changed, and discover the reason for his existence through his experiences in prison. At the beginning of the film a high schooler named Derek is shown as the leader of a Neo Nazi club. He dresses like a Punk, with long tight pants and boots; he also had his head shaved and many tattoos printed all over his body, specially a big one on his chest of a Swastika. Derek, due to the death of his father caused by a black man, was convinced that black people and minorities were the problem. For him, his country was for Americans that were worth it, and not for illegals or black thieves who only cause pain and problems to the community. Derek s transformation began with a family fight. The table gathered by his mother, siblings, girlfriend and stepfather was a place of political and racial conversation. Derek s racism was imponent, and his stepfather Murray, because of trying to argue his ideals, was sent out of the house; therefore, causing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. The Great Dictator s Speech By Charlie Chaplin In The Great Dictator s Speech spoken by Charlie Chaplin, a famous actor in the early 20th century, seems to talk about the evils in the world and how mankind should all unite and make peace with one another without the need for war, death, and petty rivalries. However, the goal of the speaker in this speech actually points towards his desire to gain power, which he will then abuse as it is written in the name, The Great Dictators Speech. The main purpose of the speech itself is to inform people and all of humanity has the power of themselves rather than a dictator. In other words: Freedom and peace in the world. Chaplin s character talks of how man has fallen, succumbed to greed and misery, which then turns into war and bloodshed. He uses this to convince people they all must set aside their differences to unite as one to prevent future struggles in the world. In his first quote Chaplin says, We all want to help one another. human beings are like that. We want to live by each other s happiness not by each other s misery. We don t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. He is stating in this text that the world would be a better place should people work together and exercise the love of looking out for one another. If men weren t so preoccupied with greed and self gratification, negative emotions like hate and misery would cease. The next quote states, The hate of men will pass, and dictators will die, and the power they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Harlem Renaissance s Influence On People s Views On... Travel back in time several centuries ago to the 1900 s and imagine how different life would be oil lamps/candles, outhouses or one toilet shared between several people, movies known as flickers and lasting no longer than 10 minutes, no television, ice boxes as opposed to refrigerators, baseball being the main sport that people followed as opposed to football, and unless you were a White male, your lifestyle was not filled with many opportunities or rights. With slavery being abolished not too long ago, discrimination and segregation was still widely accepted and practiced. Life was much different back then. Although people were heavily being judged for the color of their skin, a movement called the Harlem Renaissancehad a major influence on people s views on African Americans across the United States. The Harlem Renaissance created a new Black cultural identity through literature, music, theater, art, and politics. One of the leading voices was Langston Hughes, a writer whom wrote realistic portrayals, both suffering and victories of African American lifestyles through poetry, short stories, novels, and plays. Through short, effective, and expressive words, Langston Hughes s poetry promoted African American culture and also addressed the oppression and injustice of African Americans. Our story starts from year 1916 to 1970, when more than 6 million African Americans relocated from the Southern states to the Northern states in an epidemic known as the Great Migration. ... • 9. Arian Controversy Analysis In the 4th and 5th centuries, the early church was going through change. After a period of persecution against Christians, the Edict of Milan established a policy for the toleration of Christianity under Constantine. Constantine was the first Roman emperor to embrace Christianity and he himself became a Christian. The Ecumenical Councils were encouraged by Constantine. The gatherings included church leaders and others who met to affirm the teachings of the church and to tackle heresy. The topic of controversy was over the relationship between the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Arian controversy caused Constantine to call for the Council of Nicaea, which was the first of the Ecumenical Councils. Arias denied the deity of Jesus. He believed that Jesus was subordinate to God the Father and that the Holy Spirit was subordinate to Jesus. Arias believed that the Father was God, but Jesus and the Holy Spirit were not. Instead, he believed that Jesus was a creature who had a beginning, while God was eternal and had no beginning. He did not believe that Jesus was of the same substance [homoousios] of the Father. The research done on this topic has collectively found that sleep deprivation has detrimental affects on cognition. Studies such as the experiment conducted by Joo, Yoon, Koo, Kim, and Hong in 2012 outline how sleep deprivationcan result in deficits in cognition. The study explored how 24 hours of wakefulness affects cognitive functioning and stress hormones (Joo, Yoon, Koo, Kim, Hong, 2012). Mankind has the tendency to be self conscious, greedy, and materialistic, and human history shows this to be the case in all societies. Even in China they suffer from the selfish aspects of humans. On the other hand the Tao explains that one should lead a simple lifestyle. A simple life, is just that, simple. A person can lead a very enjoyable life if one does not have worries about money. The Tao states on page 8, In dwelling, live close to the ground./In thinking, keep to the simple./In conflict, be fair and generous./In governing, don t try to control./In work, do what you enjoy./In family life, be completely present. When one keeps their living conditions simple, are fair to others, and enjoys their work, life can be very fulfilling. The Tao states that the family arrangement is the most honorable virtue, and each family member must contribute to family unity according to page 54, Let the Tao be present in your life/and you will become genuine./Let it be present in your family/and your family will flourish. Having a successful family life should be everyone s goal, but this simple statement is rarely what we see in the western world today. Instead of unity we either see one out of every two marriages ending in divorce, or we see disunited families. Rarely do we see united families, and when we do it is very refreshing. A ruler, in China, is the most honored person in the Chinese society, but the ruler has an obligation to be a moral and upright individual. The Tao addresses these individuals on page ... In this time music has evolved to something of individual celebration, achievement, and even a battle call for the rights of people everywhere expressed though a large range of musical genres and styles. Music can be split into different sections based on how it is produced, what it contains musically, and how it affects the audience through language or influence. Although every genre of music has a different purpose and twist, pop musicis the most popular in today s society because of how it is produced, its chord progression, common and recurring cadences, and its relatable lyrics and by the influential singers behind... Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability of Chord Progression on Brain Response: An MEG Study, showed that structures commonly found in pop music created spikes in the right anterior portion of the brain, when specific chords are played in dissonance to the original key, such as a Neapolitan sixth. Pop music has this effect because it is commonly in a major key and has little to no modulation. This creates a soothing effect that spikes the brain causing the release of serotonin making the listener happier the more they listen. Pop music also creates a soothing and pleasing tone that is both powerful and euphoric through the use of the standard chord progression I V vi VI. This chordal progression is used in many pop music melodies, choruses, and even establishes a commonality through major structures that are both pleasing to the ear and the mind. By creating these melodic structures, pop music is able to give its listeners chordal structure statistical probability. Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability, found that year old children were able to predict tonal sequences found in typical pop music. This is most commonly related to the resolution to the tonic of any given key. Pop music uses this by relying on strong chords within the key, such as the dominant and mediant because of their strong relation to the tonic. Other music styles such as jazz and even some techno rely on weaker chords that stem from the leading tone and sub dominant. This weak structure calls for resolution and even to the untrained ear tend to cause strain and discomfort making them less favorable and not follow the conditional probability found in pop. It is sometimes really hard to believe that the laptops, tablets, smartphones and touchpads that we use today are descendants of the supercomputer that once used to occupy the whole room. During a press conference many years ago, Bill Gates offered his opinion that anything greater than 500MB of hard drive memory would be pointlessly unnecessary. But as the time passed and the technology advanced bringing much more new valuable stuff, there echoed a voice, more or less a chaos, You have insufficient memory! . Memory management had many issues that different researchers came across but above all is the memory size that fills up within no time and we are again in search of more memory to store our data which we can t afford to lose. In the past days, computers used to store data in their Random Access Memory (RAM) that was surely not enough to store large amount of data and was even volatile (temporary). This was the reason Disks were introduced and now are widely used in our daily life. Background In 1928, Fritz Pfleumer developed the first magnetic tape recorder, which then ... Catching is an essential skill in football so in order to master the skill an individual must first learn how to catch and throw. Learning how to perform the skill at a faster rate is the next step after knowing how to perform the skill. After you learn how to throw the ball then you can start practicing with the speed of the throw. When you have learned the skill and have practiced to perform it well then you practice to perform it consistently by being fatigued, under stress, or under pressure. Overall practicing a skill takes a tremendous amount of time and effort that separates the level between all the competitors in a sport. Skills don t necessarily have to be physical they can be related to mental processes too. For example, in chess where one must try and predict and read their opponents next possible move, it requires the use of the mental state to be able to counter the opponent s moves. Every sport whether physical or mental contains a multitude of skills that must be mastered by the player. This is what makes every sport extremely tough to compete in due to the tremendous amount of practice that must be done to be great at every possible skill. Among other things the research design, population, sampling procedures and sample size, data collection technique and research instrument were discussed. Finally, the data analysis and research limitations were looked at. . 3.2 Research design Research design constitutes the entire strategy for data collection including the specific data analysis techniques or methods the researcher intends to use. Three major approaches are mostly considered by researcher during research methodology. These are quantitative, qualitative or mixed approaches. However, Ghauri et al. According to Bryman Bell (2007), the quantitative method entails systematic empirical studies which involve quantifying through the assistance of mathematics and statistics. Data is collected and transformed into numbers which are empirically tested to see if a relationship can be found in order to be able to draw conclusions from the results gained. On the other hand, qualitative research does not rely on statistics or numbers rather qualitative research often refers to case studies where the collection of information can be received from a few studying objects. Such needs could include but are not limited to helping a client with severe cognitive or physical limitations, watching a client whom is a danger to himself or others or working with a client whose treatment goals involve intensive one on one work (Wyman, 2012). • 36. The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms Since its inception in 1982 the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, very much like its primary architect Pierre Trudeau, has been one of the most celebrated yet controversial elements of Canadian politics and governance. Revealing how this dynamic emerged requires a nuanced understanding of the motivation behind the Charter and the techniques it employed to succeed. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, like the entire patriation process, was motivated by and mobilized support through, constitutionally enshrining democratic core values, multiculturalism and a sense of nationalism. However, it should not be seen as merely a symbolic gesture on the part of Britain and Canadaor merely a strengthening of core values. Instead it was a fundamental reinvention of Canadian federalism that shifted power away from the provinces to the federal government and from the Parliament to the courts. This was accomplished by incentivizing provincial acceptance, developing common interests, and, as a result, formalizing a national identity where the protection and expansion of core values was encouraged as fundamental. This dynamic allowed the reinvention to, by and large, succeed. An understanding of the provisions and effects of the Charter and how it ultimately succeed as a re invention of the Canadian Government requires knowledge of the patriation process. Before 1982, the formal power to amend the Canadian Constitution was held by the British Parliament. This was seen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Values And Chivalry In The Lais Of Marie De France Although the Lais of Marie de France may seem to be ordinary tales of knights and chivalry, each explores the complicated issues surrounding love, loyalty, and gender. Marie uses four stories in particular to make statements on the relationships between men and women of that time. The first story follows the tale of a knight named Guigemar. Despite his noble qualities and popularity, he never displayed the slightest interest in love (44). This all changes one day when Guigemar goes hunting. He shoots a stag and mortally wounds it, but the arrow rebounds and pierces his thigh. The dying stag tells him his wound won t heal until he is cured by a woman who will suffer for [his] love more pain and anguish than any other woman has ever known, and [he] will suffer likewise for her (44). This wound acts as a physical manifestation of the incompleteness of Guigemar s life. He is wounded with lack of romantic love, and fulfilling that need is the only way for him to become whole again. The stag also introduces an important aspect of courtly love. Both parties must willingly suffer for each other. The true virtue of love is a balance of power and equality in the relationship, something that Marie de France emphasizes throughout the story. The wounded Guigemar finds an opulently decorated boat and rests there, but the boat carries him across the sea before he can get off. • 42. Impact Of Capital Market On Economic Growth The Capital market in any country is one of the major pillars of long term economic growth and development. The market serves a broad range of clientele, including different levels of government, corporate bodies and individuals within and outside the country. Capital formation entails accumulated savings out of the current incomes of either organization or individual. It is investment in fixed assets which in part is financed with monies raised through the capital market (Al Faki, 2006). The Capital market has been one of the major means through which foreign funds are injected into most economies and the tendency towards a global economy is more visible there than anywhere else. It is therefore, quite valid to state that the growth of the capital market has become one of the barometers for measuring the overall economic growth of a nation (Emenuga, 1998). The theoretical framework on the effects of capital market on economic growth dates back to the work of Schumpeter, (1911) which explained that a well developed financial system can facilitate technological innovation and economic growth through the provision of financial services and resources to investors. The above argument of Schumpeter, (1911) was later advanced as the McKinnon Shaw, (1973) hypothesis, which is a policy analysis tool for developing countries with strong recommendation and high priority on the efficiency of financial systems in facilitating capital accumulation and financial intermediation. The Hoboken, New Jersey port across the river from Manhattan, is the setting of the film where gangs run the docks and work in the area. The film shows realism in many different cinematic and thematic ways throughout the film. In the sense of cinematically, this film was filmed on the actual docks of New Jersey in the winter time. Kazan is able to brilliantly create the realistic port feel by filming on scene and using the natural surroundings as his canvas . The cargo ships in the background coming in and out, the slummy docks where men find work, and the local bars from the area. These natural settings and props made the film real and alive as it was what was actually going on in the ports. The background sounds on the dock ships whistles and chains clanging through metal loops add to the realistic aural environment. Kazan also uses the natural cold and winter to film in which give the film a realistic mise en scГЁne. Breaths are visible and steam up in the bone cold air. A small detail like this suggests the brutal treatment these dock workers face daily, not only from the corrupt union officials but from the elements themselves. The Unknown Saga Men Of Icelandic Family Sagas The unknown saga men of Icelandic Family Sagas who wrote in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries utilized a plethora of writing techniques to portray the lives of native Icelanders from roughly 930 to 1030. Throughout this period, Family Sagas progressed from choppy, scattered life stories to literary masterpieces laced with dark humor and adventure. However, sagas sometimes stray from the truth due to the saga men s tendencies to romanticize the past, use interstitial expansion, and edit manuscripts to fit Christian morals. The organization of Olaf s saga is loosely additive in the fact that none of the chapters seem to lead to each other and chapters are often repeated. Such as chapters 37 and 55 where it is the same story of king Olaf slapping a queen, but in one he does so because she wouldn t convert to Christianity, and in the other he does so because he was caught giving her a false gold arm band. This seemingly accidental repetition and misplacement of narratives could have happened for a variety of reasons, but the most likely is that since Oddr wrote the saga as he interviewed people, he would be forced to put narratives pertaining to earlier stories at the end of the manuscript because there was no way for him to copy and paste and add it to the beginning. Since all chapters after 25 were written from solely oral accounts, interstitial expansion plagues the Saga to the point that it is hard to tell what actually happened and what is completely made up, for example the scene where Olaf gets married in Winland probably never even happened. Usually after demonic or paranormal activities are mentioned, Oddr interludes to write in his own thoughts. An example of this happening is in chapter 43 when Odin appears to Olaf.
