Hills Like White Elephants
Hills Like White Elephants is a story written by, Ernest Hemingway. In the story, Hemingway uses
symbols to show the reader certain things that one could encounter during their daily life. Symbolism
is the use of symbols to signify ideas and qualities, by giving them symbolic meanings that are
different from their literal sense. The use of symbols in Hills Like White Elephants is very important
to the meaning of the story. The symbols in the story are white elephants, the train and the hills. An
important symbol in the story Hills Like White Elephants is white elephants. A white elephant
symbolizes something that no one wants. At a white elephant party you decide whether or not you
want to keep the gift. Jig has to decide whether she wants to keep the baby or not. Jig says, I know.
But if I do it, then it will be nice again if I say things are like white elephants, and you ll like it?
(Hemingway). The girl purposely asks the man if aborting the child will better their lives, or continue
them moving down a path of unhappiness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hemingway shows their relationship and life together as they wait for the train. Trains symbolize
journey and destiny. The train represents the couples journey. The choice to be made and the problems
that will eventually come are a symbol of the train. The man says, That the train is coming in five
minutes. ( Hemingway). The man is telling Jig that their trip back to reality will be here soon and their
journey is about to

Personality Traits That Make Up The Big Five Traits
Neuroticism, agreeableness, extraversion, openness, and conscientiousness are the five personality
traits that make up the big five traits. Everyone in the world has theses traits in their personality but
have a variation in how strong they are in them. After learning in greater detail about the two ends of
the spectrums people can be at or in between we took the BFI to find out where we are on the bell
curve for the big five traits. Then we compared our scores with four hundred and fifty nine other
female Luther students to determine our percentiles in the BFI traits. In emotional stability (ES), I
ranked in the thirtieth percentile. Since the big five uses neuroticism (N) which is the opposite of
emotional stability I scored in the seventieth percentile for N. One with this personality usually
experiences lots of negative effects, and is more prone to having irrational ideas, less able to cope well
to stress, and control their impulses. Second in the big five traits is agreeableness (A), my percentile
for this is in the fifth percentile. People in the middle of the bell curve do not lean one way or another
but use a combination of the two spectrums. A person high in A is sympathetic to others and eager to
lend them a helping hand. Compared to someone on the opposite side of the bell curve who is
egocentric, skeptical of others intentions, and competitive rather than cooperative. Additionally, one
low in A are usually science minded and will follow the data shown.

Running for Texas Senator
If Jennifer Alvarado was running as a Texas Senator, she would do everything in her capability to
defeat her opponents and successfully win the election. In the process of a successful campaign,
Jennifer would strive to have an appropriate number of campaign staff; meaning many volunteers as
well as a strong consultant and campaign manager to use a wise strategy to win the election. She
would raise funds months beforehand to be prepared for the election. Jennifer would contact
organizations or groups which have the same beliefs as she does, and she would advertise herself in
most of, if not all the public media.
A Campaign is efficient when the available staff is dedicated and appropriate. Fourteen staff members

If it is already legal in one state it should be legal in all states, it is only fair. Marijuana is legal in a
few states such as Colorado and Washington. These are the only two states that have legalized it for
recreational use, for ones enjoyment. According to the Governing the States and Localities website,
Montana, New Mexico, Arizona, and of course, California are just some of the states that have
legalized the use of medical marijuana (Governing the States and Localities).
As an American citizen, I believe if it is right or legal in one state it should remain as it is on the other
states. Therefore, since it is legal for recreational use in Colorado and Washington, it should be
available to all of the states in America, including the states with legal medical use. I believe it
definitely needs to be a federal issue; it isn t fair for the drug to be handed in some states and
prohibited in others. American citizens should have the right to obtain marijuana regardless of what
state they live in, it should be legal for all states!
Either way, it will happen illegally if we do not legalize it. The federal government doesn t realize that
people are and will still be doing or having a way of obtaining marijuana regardless of it being legal or
illegal. This is valuable time and money we (and the federal government) are wasting debating on the
issue

Aperture Cameras Consistently Returned The Highest Net Income
Aperture Cameras consistently returned the highest net income (Fig.3), which provided the base for
strong earnings per share (EPS) and return on equity (REO). For example, Year 6 earnings per share
was $3.57 and increased in each subsequent year, ending Year 12 at $7.25. The improved EPS was
accomplished with providing consistent well thought out modifications to the business model and not
significant stock repurchase. The company did strategically make annual stock repurchases starting in
Year 8. Return on Equity (ROE) was maintained at a consistent weighted average of 23.7, representing
the average of ROE from a low of 21.0 to a high of 27.1. Management elected to operate the company
with sound business principals and avoid aggressive changes in the balance sheet and/or P L, which
could dramatically swing the ROE.
It was management s opinion what consistent reliable business practices would add a sense of security
to the company s operations, employees and shareholders. The financial consistency of the company
provided shareholders with comfort in their investment with the stock price at $43.92 in Year 6 and
steadily rising to $128.11 by Year 12. As previously noted, the financial results were accomplished by
providing consistent high net earnings on its operations each accounting year. The company did not
incur long term debt and operated its business without having to utilized its bank operating line of
credit (no interest cost), thus maintaining a healthy

Discuss the impact of globalisation on patent law with respect to developing countries and
pharmaceutical patent
While globalization has raised the standard of health care in developed countries, it has failed to raise
the standard of living in developing countries and it continues to be difficult for such countries to
access pharmaceuticals. Risks to public health are increasing in developing countries for many reasons
including the high cost of medicines, insufficient production, and lack of research and development.
Thus, one third of the world s

Augustine Of Hippo Confessions
Introduction
Augustine of Hippo was a man who had a great hunger for knowledge and a passion is for sharing
what he learned. It began with his studies in rhetoric and philosophy as a boy and ended with a
passion for scripture and a desire for others to benefit from his experiences and knowledge. His early
quests for information and answers left him hollow and longing for more. He states in the first
paragraph of his Confessions ...Thou hast formed us for Thyself, and our hearts are restless till they
find rest in thee. Augustine felt that God used his sinful past as a call to humility while helping him
understand the depth of human corruptibility so he could fully appreciate the amazing power of grace.
By putting his old self aside, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Holding firmly to 1 Corinthians 5:9 13, the Donatists taught that the grace of God could only be found
in an undefiled church. This belief caused them to separate from the Catholic Church and limit their
membership to those they felt had overcome the temptation of sin. They did not recognize baptisms
and Lord s Supper to be valid unless it occurred within their church. A legitimate baptism in the
Donatist church was believed to give new life, and when the priest was baptized he was also given the
ability to give new life to others. A person baptized outside the true church needed to be re baptized to
ensure they received the proper blessing. They held martyrdom in very high regard, valuing the
opportunity to sacrifice to preserve the purity of the

For The Purpose Of This Assignment, I Decided To Go To
For the purpose of this assignment, I decided to go to make an observation at Starbucks at the Indiana
Memorial Union (IMU), Indiana University. I decided to sit alone at one of the tables there, facing the
Starbucks counter. The weather outside the IMU was so hot but it was chilly inside the IMU. From
where I was sitting, I was able to see people at the counter, people near the stage and on the tables
clearly. I went to the Starbucks around 5pm in the evening and at that time it was really noisy. I could
hear people laughing, chatting and I could clearly hear music playing in the background. I think most
of the students just finished their class that is why there are lots of students there.

They talk to one another while laughing; smiling and they interact with one another in a very casual,
light hearted way. After a while talking to each other, one of them started to tell a joke. One of the
jokes that I heard and remembered sounds like this, What did the red light say to the green light? Don

one who told the jokes while laughing.
After a while, one of the females started to talk about the economics quiz that she just took. Then, all

conversation expressed how she hates the professor because the professor is a tough grader. Then they
continued the conversations by comparing the professor (Prof .A) with another professor (Prof. B) and
talk about how easy the test of Prof. B compared to Prof. A. After spent about 10 15minutes talk about
their classes and professors, they decided to go home. Before they were separated, one of the males

Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s The Hills Like White Elephants
The Hills like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway is about a couple who, at first seems to be
having a good time, until the girl brings up the hills that looked like white elephants and when the
American man mentioned an operation. As the story goes on, a reader can infer that the operation their
talking about is abortion. This seems to be the basis of their conflict as the man claims it as the only
thing that s made [them] unhappy (Hemingway, Hills Like White Elephants 280). The story illustrates
both external and internal conflict. The external conflict is obvious between the girl and the American
man. This is an example of man vs. man conflict. The American man and the girl have a verbal
argument about the whole operation. They

Why The Death Camps In Primo Levi s If This Is A Man
Today s interactive oral taught me a lot about the context of the book If This is a Man by Primo Levi.
Prior to the interactive oral I knew little about Auschwitz. I knew about the political aspects of World
War II from studies in school. However, I knew little about the death camps, what purpose they served
and what conditions were like in the camp. Prior to the interactive oral I had limited knowledge of
how the death camps worked. I was aware that huge numbers had been killed, but I had no idea of the
sheer volume. The interactive oral allowed me to truly appreciate the horrors of the death camps.
Originally, I believed that their only purpose was as a way of killing large numbers of people. I hadn t

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Marburg Virus, or the Marburg hemorrhagic
fever (MHF), is a very deadly virus. It has a fatality rate anywhere from 24% all the way up to 88% if
an outbreak occurs. The Marburg virus takes its name from Marburg, Germany; which is the place
where it was initially detected in the year of our Lord 1967. There were other outbreaks of this virus in
Frankfurt, Germany and also in Belgrade, Serbia. The main carrier of this virus is believed to be the

The areas where bleeding can start are the intravenous areas. This can be very problematic as a patient
will continue to bleed when being given fluids through an IV. You can bleed from the nose, and the
gums around your teeth. In females bleeding can also occur from the vagina. During this extreme
phase of the virus, the patient will continue to have a high fever. This can result in the patient
becoming confused, easily frustrated and quick to anger. Once this high fever has set in, males can

The Importance Of Year-Round Schooling
Year round schooling is a system that lengthens the amount of days spent in school by shortening the
duration of vacations. Although students may think otherwise, year round schooling should be
enforced in schools today. Year round schooling keeps students stimulated, throughout the entire
school year. Year round schooling improves a student s academic and social performance as well as
supporting families financial strains. If year round schooling is not enforced, the academic scores of
the students will continue to decrease.

A Perfect Summer At The Beach
A Perfect Summer at the Beach
The sun peeked through my bedroom window; time to get up! The day was warm and gorgeous. It
was the perfect weather to go to the beach. I woke up early and prepare our breakfast, so we can eat
first before we leave. I can smell the eggs and bacon sizzling in a pan. The aroma of freshly brewed
coffee makes my day complete. The pancake oozing with butter and maple syrup is ready to serve. I
also prepare a fresh squeezed orange juice for the kids. When I was cooking everybody is starting to
wake up. We are planning to go to the Narragansett beach with the family. Everything is all packed
and ready to go. The kids are very excited; they help me to organize all the stuff that we needed since
last night. After we eat our breakfast the kids immediately go to their bedroom and change for their

Hamlet Ophelia Essay
Ophelia s character in Shakespeare s Hamlet has been subject to a wealth of different interpretations,
and because her characterization greatly influences the plot of the play, it is important to interpret
Shakespeare s original intentions concerning Ophelia with due diligence. Ophelia s role in the play
changes as the play progresses. At first she is used to find out the source of Hamlet s apparent
madness, for he was infatuated with her, and Polonius, Ophelia s father, believed that Hamlet was
driven mad with longing for his daughter. Polonius then instructs Ophelia to to give back the love
letters that Hamlet gave her, increasing her influence on the plot as she takes action against Hamlet.
But her most essential role in the play comes after Hamlet accidentally kills Polonius. Her reaction to
her father s death takes up a good portion of act four as Shakespeare ties her into the play s themes of
sanity, or lack thereof, grief, betrayal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her true nature becomes apparent as she completely falls apart. She sings in front of the queen and
king, Before you tumbled me, you promised me to wed (Hamlet 4.5.67 68). This alludes to how
Ophelia was not as innocent as she appeared, and that not only had Ophelia and Hamlet cared for each
other, but that they had slept together before marriage. This loss of virtue should come as a shock to
the audience if Ophelia s character is presented correctly, for they would be entirely unaware of
Ophelia s impurity. The fact that she is singing also reveals more about Ophelia s character, because it
shows a loss of touch with reality. Correspondingly, Ophelia should be characterized as incensed and
heartbroken, for not only has she suffered the loss of her father, but a betrayal by the man she once
loved who killed him. Here the audience should discover that Ophelia is not the impassive character
she seemed to be in the beginning, but that she is deeply

The At The North Texas Teen Book
Hi everyone! This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending The North Texas Teen Book Festical
in Irving, TX. It was so much fun, and honestly it was one of the best weekends of my life. This post
is just an overview of some pictures and the things I did. Let s begin! (All the bloggers/booktubers I
mention will be linked at the end!)
Friday
Friday was educator s day, but they had an author luncheon that was open to the public. The authors at
the luncheon were Sarah Dessen, Ruta Sepetys, and E. Lockhart. I met up with my friend, Avery, to go
to the event. As we were sitting in the lobby, we saw Marie Lu walk in and I started freaking out. I
wanted to go and ask for a picture, but I was too shy to go up to her. We went inside and sat at a table
close to the front (closest to the reserve author table).
As we were sitting there, I look in the corner and Ruta Sepetys (AKA ONE OF MY FAVORITE
AUTHORS) is standing in the corner. Avery and I went over to talk to Ruta, and she was absolutely
adorable. If you ever have the chance to meet Ruta, please seize your opportunity because she s
absolutely brilliant. Avery and I got a picture with her.

We finally got the courage to take a picture with Marie Lu, so here s my picture with Marie:

The Assessment Of A Community s Decision For Real Initiative
According to Monmonier (1996), those who do have Internet and GIS accessibility face the potential
to be placed in a vulnerable position. He believes that the public who is armed with a GIS but lacking
the savvy to use the system appropriately becomes vulnerable to sarcastic attacks from site advocates .
Meaning, that a community s opinion may not be taken seriously or may be misrepresented in the eyes
of policymakers because the people in that community may not be using the GIS software correctly,
therefore they do not comprehend the data that is being presented to them in a GIS platform. This
connects to another complication, that the general public may not have the basic training requirements
needed to properly understand GIS software. Referring back to Carver, et al (2001), one of the issues
they encountered during the observation of the Neighbourhood Initiatives Foundation s Planning for
Real initiative was a general lack of familiarity with GIS software, especially from older age groups of
manual trade.
The solution to these issues cannot be resolved in a short period of time as these are mainly socio
economic complications, however, attainable solutions are present. As far as GIS comprehensive, this
will become less of an issue as more people become familiar with using computers and maps through
work and education (Carver et al, 2001). As mentioned earlier in Baker s (2005) article, strides are
being made to teach K 12 students Web GIS, for digital learning

The Ethics Of A Vegan Diet
The first things that come to a person mind when they hear the word, vegan , are usually protest for
animal rights, salads, and a lack of protein, but the question is does he/she really know what being a
vegan is all about? Veganism is the practice of abstaining away from the use of any product that uses
animals, commonly associated with the cruel treatment of animals and make up thirty one percent of
the population worldwide. An ethical vegan is a form of veganism were a person does not use any
product that has been tested on an animal or is made from an animal. A dietary vegan is a form of
veganism were a person does not consume any product made from, by, or out of an animal. Many
people believe that veganism is unnecessary because not all animal are treated bad or :it s to hard, or it
s bad for the body. Although some people believe that, realistically, a vegan diet comes with an
abound of benefits for animals, the body and the environment.
To begin, a vegan diet is a way to end animal cruelty in factories and farms. Animal cruelty begins in
giant indoor farms that keep animal confined to cages and barely have any sunlight, known as animal
factories, so that countries can meet the demand for meat, cheeses and other products. Two thirds of
the animal population, which include chickens, turkey, cow, pigs and other commonly eaten animals,
live in these factories but the animals are not in healthy environment at all. The animals live there own

Andrew Carnegie did amazing things with his money while and even after he was alive. He also had
flaws and did some not so very good things. He used his fortune to do things like buying organs for
churches, donating to colleges, and building public libraries. His Homestead steel mill, on the other
hand experienced a strike and its workers were not very content, which Carnegie turned a blind eye to.
So was Andrew Carnegie a hero?
The Homestead steel mill was located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was owned by Andrew
Carnegie. The conditions were not very safe. One worker stated ...Sometimes the slag falls on the
workmen from the roadway up there. . The employees worked 12 hours a day and most of them only
got paid $1.40. Workers were not happy with these conditions and formed a strike. Carnegie was not
present during this strike, as he was in Scotland. He trusted in the ... Show more content on

His net worth was 310 billion at the time of his death. His daily wage was near $92,000. He also made
amazing contributions to people and organizations. That included the Princeton University, Carnegie
Institution, Teachers Pension Fund, and public libraries. Despite this, some said that no amount of
money for public libraries would make up for the calamity at the Homestead steel mill strike.
Although, Carnegie donated $4 million to the Homestead Relief Fund for steel workers and families.
Carnegie had all this money yet his employees still received very low wages. Carnegie notably
believed in survival of the fittest and that it was necessary for their to be poor people for the sake of
the race. People found fault with how Carnegie gave his workers little wages yet played philanthropist
with all of his generous donations. I believe that this lessens Carnegie s tenability to be a hero . He
should have given his workers a much higher wage considering how much money he himself was

My Reflective Web Media Creation
My Reflective Web Media Creation (RWMC) project was nearly exactly as I envisioned it in the pitch
with only a few changes. In the pitch I discussed how the lead character (Matt Murdoch) would be
explain to the Jury why Fair Dealing is not stealing and he would be the Punishers lawyer. However, I
changed it in the final video making him the plaintiff, a company lawyer saying the defendant (
Punisher ) stole their content and he is not protected by Fair Dealing . I changed it to this as I believed
it would make the video more narratively engaging, making the Punishers outburst more provoked and
meaningful. I also removed the self referential element where the Punisher was going to comment on
how the video was flipped and colour graded so it would not come up on YouTube copyright detection
system. I changed this element as I believed it would make my RWMC more focused and comedic in
a serious way. The elements I changed after I presented my RWMC piece were both things the
markers and classmates commented on. They said some of the subtitles in the first half went by too
fast, so they struggled to read everything being said before the subtitle changed. To remedy this I
changed the subtitles from the first half of the video to make it more concise and easier to read,
removing words and rewording/rephrasing the subtitles. I did this as it was the main criticism that both
my classmates and markers told me. I also fixed the spelling and grammatical errors that were

Polonius Literary Devices
In Act I Scene III of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Polonius, the father of Laertes and Ophelia,
enters as Laertes is saying his goodbye to Ophelia. Polonius talks to each of the two characters
directly at different points in this scene; however, the conversations are both meant to be a helpful
warning and lesson to each of the characters. The main point, or crux, of the conversation between
Polonius and Laertes was a series of small, fatherly tips and lessons to Laertes before he goes off on
his trip to Paris. The main point of the conversation between Polonius and Ophelia was a warning that
Ophelia shouldn t get mixed up with Hamlet romantically because Hamlet wouldn t truly love her. A
literary device that Shakespeare employs within the conversation between Polonius and Laertes would
be the use of sentence structure. During the lecture to Laertes, Shakespeare ends every piece of advice
with a period, ultimately separating the different parts of his lesson. This structure creates a kind of list
that the audience is able to put together although it is not specifically separated. This serves to prove
the point that Laertes has a lot left to learn but not enough time so Shakespeare sends Polonius to
teach these important lessons quickly before Laertes is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of symbolism can be seen when Polonius says to Ophelia, You speak like a green girl...
(Shakespeare 1.3.110). This description of Ophelia uses the symbolism that green entails. Green is
often used to symbolize immaturity and growth. This is held true by the next line used to describe
Ophelia saying, Unsifted in such perilous circumstance. (Shakespeare 1.3.111). This proves that
Ophelia is immature and unsure of what she s doing. This proves Polonius s point that, Ophelia still
has a lot to learn and grow before she can truly know what s right for

The role of human resources is also very important in maintaining an effective health care industry. If
the managerial personnel are performing their duties effectively and efficiently in a health care
organization, the organization will automatically progress. Additionally, the organization will provide
the improved outcomes of the patient health and health care delivery as well. This is so because
human resource is also considered as one of the most important inputs to effective health care
services. Although there exists a variety of challenges in inducting qualified human resource
professionals but there is a strong need to solve this issue. (Kabene, 2006)
The challenges associated with the HRM i.e. human resource management includes the distribution
and composition of health care work force. In addition to this, the issues related to the training of the
work force are also a challenge for the human resource management. The relocation of the health
workers is also a great concern. Moreover, the degree of economic development is also a great
challenge that negatively impacts the level of performance shown by a health care organization. These
challenges must be addressed properly in order to have an effective health care delivery anywhere in
the world.
If we compare the health care financing of past and that of recent times, there exists a dramatic shift in
the trends of the issue. In the past times, the

Single Mothers in America Essays
In today s society it is not unusual to have a one parent family with a young mother in charge. Teen
mothers having children has increased so much over the years that it s now a common occurance.
Being a young single mother in today s society is challenging but with the help of government
assistance single mothers are finding their way.
The government provides help for single mothers through a variety of welfare programs. Welfare
programs provide benefits to single mothers with low income income so low that it is not possible to
support a family.
Welfare helps with all childcare needs. They give the young mother food stamps for shopping at the
grocery store and earned income tax credit. They play a big roll in helping these young ... Show more

Or girls may even grow up to hate men because of unconscious resentment toward absent fathers.
A study has shown that these young mothers are struggling with their time and availability for their
child and their needs. This study has come to conclude that single mothers usually spend only 3.4
hours with their children. These mothers spend most of their time with work, school, yard work, and
housecleaning.
Leigh Thawley a twenty three year old mother of a 4 month of child says I feel like I have so many
things to do in such little time and not enough time to even watch my child grow. Another major thing
that affects time with their children is They feel the need to look good so they spend a lot of time
fixing themselves so they can feel pretty and attract men. (D Amato) I try hard to put my child ahead
of myself but it is hard to because all I ve ever had to do was worry about myself and I m still so
young that I don t really know how put me last said Thawley.
In addition to problems of availability, mothers experience financial troubles with their children. In a
suburb in Denver young mothers are having not choice but to move away to be able to get affordable
housing. In moving away to get affordable housing these mothers and children are being away from
family and putting more where and tear on their cars which is going to end up costing them in the long
run. In 2000, Boulder County 25% live in single parent

What Is The Role Of Religion In The Catholic Church
Unlike the Protestant Church, the Catholic Church practices all of the sacraments throughout the
human life cycle. The Church believes that the sacraments guide the soul to salvation and help
believers to achieve grace from Christ. They teach that Christ is actively present during the
ceremonies of the sacraments. The sacraments of the Catholic Church originated from Christ and his
teachings. Baptism is the new member of the Church participating in Jesus ultimate sacrifice when he
died for our sins and made it possible to be saved by Christ. It acts as the gateway to the other
sacraments. Through Baptism, the Church teaches that we are freed from sin and born again as
children of Christ. In Lectures in Systematic Theology, by Henry Thiessen, he quotes Clarkson to
explain that a person receives Sanctifying Grace, which, is known as sacramental grace inasmuch as it
carries with it a right to the supernatural helps necessary and useful for the accomplishment of the
purpose of each sacrament . This grace ensures the passage to heaven; in being baptized you are
brought to the eyes of God and he sees the individual as a member of the Church. In early adolescent
years the sacrament of Confirmation takes place to confirm faith in Christ. Confirmation adds to the
grace you receive at Baptism. In the Catholic Church, it s customary for infants to be baptized in order
to ensure their passage to heaven. Baptisms usually take place on Sundays during Mass. Typically,
Children are baptized with Holy water and oils on the head and not fully submerged. Those being
baptized traditionally wear white clothing to symbolize their faith and the renewing power of the
ceremony itself. Godparents are also a tradition that the Catholic Church upholds. The baptized child
or person will have a godparent of each gender, often times members of the extended family or close
friends of the parents. The original role of the godparent was to take care of the child if it was
orphaned, but now the role is primarily to set a good Christian role model for the new member. The
majority of Protestant churches only require faith in Christ to become a member. The Church
encourages the Baptism of adults because they can understand and pledge

Why I Am An AIDS Victim
The term that was the most difficult to change is I am an AIDS victim. This term is the most shocking
to me because this syndrome is a chronic potentially life threatening; I might feel week, and close to
death. Other terms that are very rude and disrespectful to me are: I am retarded, I am dummy, I am
imbecile. These phrases spread hurt, are offensive and derogatory. I do believe that all people have the
right and deserve to be treated respectfully. The term that was easier to change was I am autistic. This
phrase was the easiest to change because I have an autistic child, and he is the best thing that has
happened to my life; he is so intelligent, sweet, and happy. Other term that was easy to change was I

World Beer Consumption
Claudia Ruiz
October 3, 2011
MGMT 80 International Business
Written Assignment: The World Beer Industry
Beer Around the World Approximately, 100 billion liters of beer are consumed around the world every
year (Olfir, 2007). The worldwide growth rate of beer consumption has been recorded for the past 19
years (Kirin Holdings, 2005). This, however, is not to say that the beer consumption around the world
is alike. The alcoholic beverage consumption levels around the world and the rates at which these
increase vary from one country to another. For example, in India the annual consumption of beer is .5
litters per capita (Gupta, 2007), where as in Czech Republic, the consumption of beer is 156.9 liters
per capita per year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the industry could possibly help the economic stability of a country, I believe it does a
greater harm to the different nations. I believe that one possibly solution that would allow the beer
industry to prosper without causing much harm, is if as they enter a nation to introduce their product,
they help create programs that educate people on the consumption of alcohol. I believe that if people
are educated on the subject matter and know the consequences of drinking this product, they will
continue to consume the beverage but being more responsible. This, in my opinion, will not have a
negative affect on the beer industry. Another way that a nation can prevent the consequences of
alcohol consumption caused by worldwide brewers is by creating greater taxation or other barriers that
would hinder the production and selling of beer in their nation. This scenario, however, might be one
that the beer industry might one to avoid. Unlike my first suggestion, this would have a greater
negative impact on the industry. Such situation would lower sales in the given country affecting the
revenue of the company. I also believe that although the rate of alcohol consumption in many
developing countries is increasing, these rates will begin to slow down. Although, as mentioned
earlier, economy prosperity may help increase the levels of

Compare And Contrast The Nfl Vs Canada
Professional Football: United States vs. Canada Football, known as America s Favorite Pastime
currently stands second in popularity in Canada. It is widely popular in both countries due to
increasing fan rate, the popularity of both their championship games, and new generations wanting to
play Football. However, younger players are decreasing because of problems relating to injuries.
Although Canada and the United States both have Professional Football Leagues, many differences in
their development made them the leagues that they are today.
Differences in rules and regulations have impacted both leagues and how they are played. One major
difference is that the NFL has the fair catch rule. During kickoffs or punts the player returning the
kickoff can catch the ball where they are instead of risking losing possession or yards. One regulation
is that the NFL has four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(subordinate clause first) One thing that makes the NFL so popular is the amount of money that the
NFL has. American Football is currently a billion dollar industry, meaning it gives the NFL more room
to expand, grow, and to move teams to other cities. In the past two seasons, three NFL teams have
moved to other cities. Since the Super Bowl was introduced, it has only grown in popularity to where
it the most watched T. V. event in the country. The Super Bowl is even the most watched event in
Canada.
Popularity in Canadian Football has also grown in large part due to its many differences to that of
American Football. As far as the sports culture in Canada, Football is a big part of the people s way of
life. While many Canadians enjoy football, there are some that feel otherwise. Many Americans do not
give the CFL respect because of the NFL and that they feel that Canadian football is unimportant. A
major part of popularity has to do with audience

Isaiah was a major prophet that lived in the 8th century when the Babylonian Exile happens which is
the single most important event in the history of the bible s formation. Isaiah was a guy that was so

Isaiah which is one of the biggest bible book. The book of the isaiah was written in three sections
which are before the Exile, during the exile, and after the exile ended. The key themes for this book is
sin lead to suffering, God s power/authority, and the redemption that can be found in suffering.
I believe that Isaiah was a prophet because the bible sated him as one of the three major prophets

The Interpretation Of Oppression By Marilyn Frye
Nikky Xiong Feminist Philosophy Nancy Bauer Oct 12th, 2015 The Interpretation of Oppression
Women and men are born equal. However, females are receiving unequal judgement and unfair
treatment in the society, and thus Marilyn Frye brings up the notion of oppression , claiming that
women are oppressed. Throughout the essay, I will first give the definition of Frye s oppression and
then list 5 critical qualifications to be considered oppressed. After that, I will explain my appreciation
on Frye s perspective on elaborating oppression using the bird cage analogy. I will support Frye s
double bind argument for sexism followed by flaws in the argument. Furthermore, I will point out
some social group are mistakenly placed inside or outside the parameters of oppression, once the
theory of oppression extends over other marginal groups. Given the definition of oppression as a
system of interrelated barriers and forces which mold , immobilize , and reduce a certain group of
people, and affect their subordination to another group (Frye 4), Frye lists out five premises in order to
be considered oppressed. First of all, the group of people must be restricted. In other words, there must
be limitations or barriers on them. For example, women make 78 cents for every dollar earned by men
(Kessler 1). Second, those restrictions surely cause harm, which must outweigh any potential benefits
oppressed groups experience as a result of those same restrictions (Gillingham 1). For

Roots Movie Analysis
Roots, the movie or series, is closely based on Alex Haley s novel about his ancestors from Africa who
were forced into slavery. The series begins with the life of Kunta Kinte, a young boy from Gambia,
West Africa who has been captured and kidnapped by slave raiders. He reluctantly goes from being
surrounded by loving family and friends to being forced into slavery half way across the world from
everything he knows. Episode one of the historical series mainly depicts Kunta s home life in Gambia.
We observe as Kunta Kinte develops into a fearless, responsible teenager. He then attends manhood
training in his village of Mandika and is transformed into an adult man in his society. This is where
Kunta Kinte first witnesses the presence of white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although I ve only watched two episodes, I feel like I m connected to Kunta Kinte. His story is so sad,
inspiring, and exciting. It left me wondering what is going to happen next. It makes me question if
Kunta will survive and escape. Also it makes me question if he ll ever be united with Fanta and his
family again. This movie is very deep and difficult to watch because it forces me reflect on how badly
Africans and African Americans have been treated, but it also makes me proud that things are better. I
believe that this movie is historically accurate because the portrayal of the conditions on the ship was
as badly as they were during slavery. I feel this movie accurately depicts life as an African slave and
how hard it is to let go of everything someone has learned and conform to a new identity. I believe the
movie explains all points of perception from the slaves point of view to the slave owners to the
capturers and even the captain of the ship s experience. Although the movie is dramatized, it is very
believable. I would rate this movie an 8.5 so far because I haven t had the chance to see the whole
thing. I am intrigued to see what more there is in store for Kunta Kinte and his

  • 2. Hills Like White Elephants Hills Like White Elephants is a story written by, Ernest Hemingway. In the story, Hemingway uses symbols to show the reader certain things that one could encounter during their daily life. Symbolism is the use of symbols to signify ideas and qualities, by giving them symbolic meanings that are different from their literal sense. The use of symbols in Hills Like White Elephants is very important to the meaning of the story. The symbols in the story are white elephants, the train and the hills. An important symbol in the story Hills Like White Elephants is white elephants. A white elephant symbolizes something that no one wants. At a white elephant party you decide whether or not you want to keep the gift. Jig has to decide whether she wants to keep the baby or not. Jig says, I know. But if I do it, then it will be nice again if I say things are like white elephants, and you ll like it? (Hemingway). • 3. Personality Traits That Make Up The Big Five Traits Neuroticism, agreeableness, extraversion, openness, and conscientiousness are the five personality traits that make up the big five traits. Everyone in the world has theses traits in their personality but have a variation in how strong they are in them. After learning in greater detail about the two ends of the spectrums people can be at or in between we took the BFI to find out where we are on the bell curve for the big five traits. Then we compared our scores with four hundred and fifty nine other female Luther students to determine our percentiles in the BFI traits. In emotional stability (ES), I ranked in the thirtieth percentile. Since the big five uses neuroticism (N) which is the opposite of emotional stability I scored in the seventieth percentile for N. One with this personality usually experiences lots of negative effects, and is more prone to having irrational ideas, less able to cope well to stress, and control their impulses. Second in the big five traits is agreeableness (A), my percentile for this is in the fifth percentile. People in the middle of the bell curve do not lean one way or another but use a combination of the two spectrums. A person high in A is sympathetic to others and eager to lend them a helping hand. Compared to someone on the opposite side of the bell curve who is egocentric, skeptical of others intentions, and competitive rather than cooperative. Additionally, one low in A are usually science minded and will follow the data shown. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the process of a successful campaign, Jennifer would strive to have an appropriate number of campaign staff; meaning many volunteers as well as a strong consultant and campaign manager to use a wise strategy to win the election. She would raise funds months beforehand to be prepared for the election. Jennifer would contact organizations or groups which have the same beliefs as she does, and she would advertise herself in most of, if not all the public media. If it is already legal in one state it should be legal in all states, it is only fair. Marijuana is legal in a few states such as Colorado and Washington. These are the only two states that have legalized it for recreational use, for ones enjoyment. According to the Governing the States and Localities website, Montana, New Mexico, Arizona, and of course, California are just some of the states that have legalized the use of medical marijuana (Governing the States and Localities). As an American citizen, I believe if it is right or legal in one state it should remain as it is on the other states. Therefore, since it is legal for recreational use in Colorado and Washington, it should be available to all of the states in America, including the states with legal medical use. I believe it definitely needs to be a federal issue; it isn t fair for the drug to be handed in some states and prohibited in others. American citizens should have the right to obtain marijuana regardless of what state they live in, it should be legal for all states! Either way, it will happen illegally if we do not legalize it. The federal government doesn t realize that people are and will still be doing or having a way of obtaining marijuana regardless of it being legal or illegal. This is valuable time and money we (and the federal government) are wasting debating on the issue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Aperture Cameras Consistently Returned The Highest Net Income Aperture Cameras consistently returned the highest net income (Fig.3), which provided the base for strong earnings per share (EPS) and return on equity (REO). For example, Year 6 earnings per share was $3.57 and increased in each subsequent year, ending Year 12 at $7.25. The improved EPS was accomplished with providing consistent well thought out modifications to the business model and not significant stock repurchase. The company did strategically make annual stock repurchases starting in Year 8. Return on Equity (ROE) was maintained at a consistent weighted average of 23.7, representing the average of ROE from a low of 21.0 to a high of 27.1. Management elected to operate the company with sound business principals and avoid aggressive changes in the balance sheet and/or P L, which could dramatically swing the ROE. It was management s opinion what consistent reliable business practices would add a sense of security to the company s operations, employees and shareholders. The financial consistency of the company provided shareholders with comfort in their investment with the stock price at $43.92 in Year 6 and steadily rising to $128.11 by Year 12. As previously noted, the financial results were accomplished by providing consistent high net earnings on its operations each accounting year. The company did not incur long term debt and operated its business without having to utilized its bank operating line of credit (no interest cost), thus maintaining a healthy ... His early quests for information and answers left him hollow and longing for more. He states in the first paragraph of his Confessions ...Thou hast formed us for Thyself, and our hearts are restless till they find rest in thee. This belief caused them to separate from the Catholic Church and limit their membership to those they felt had overcome the temptation of sin. They did not recognize baptisms and Lord s Supper to be valid unless it occurred within their church. A legitimate baptism in the Donatist church was believed to give new life, and when the priest was baptized he was also given the ability to give new life to others. As the story goes on, a reader can infer that the operation their talking about is abortion. This seems to be the basis of their conflict as the man claims it as the only thing that s made [them] unhappy (Hemingway, Hills Like White Elephants 280). • 19. Hamlet Ophelia Essay Ophelia s character in Shakespeare s Hamlet has been subject to a wealth of different interpretations, and because her characterization greatly influences the plot of the play, it is important to interpret Shakespeare s original intentions concerning Ophelia with due diligence. Ophelia s role in the play changes as the play progresses. At first she is used to find out the source of Hamlet s apparent madness, for he was infatuated with her, and Polonius, Ophelia s father, believed that Hamlet was driven mad with longing for his daughter. Polonius then instructs Ophelia to to give back the love letters that Hamlet gave her, increasing her influence on the plot as she takes action against Hamlet. But her most essential role in the play comes after Hamlet accidentally kills Polonius. Her reaction to her father s death takes up a good portion of act four as Shakespeare ties her into the play s themes of sanity, or lack thereof, grief, betrayal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her true nature becomes apparent as she completely falls apart. She sings in front of the queen and king, Before you tumbled me, you promised me to wed (Hamlet 4.5.67 68). This alludes to how Ophelia was not as innocent as she appeared, and that not only had Ophelia and Hamlet cared for each other, but that they had slept together before marriage. This loss of virtue should come as a shock to the audience if Ophelia s character is presented correctly, for they would be entirely unaware of Ophelia s impurity. The fact that she is singing also reveals more about Ophelia s character, because it shows a loss of touch with reality. Correspondingly, Ophelia should be characterized as incensed and heartbroken, for not only has she suffered the loss of her father, but a betrayal by the man she once loved who killed him. Here the audience should discover that Ophelia is not the impassive character she seemed to be in the beginning, but that she is deeply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. The At The North Texas Teen Book Hi everyone! This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending The North Texas Teen Book Festical in Irving, TX. It was so much fun, and honestly it was one of the best weekends of my life. This post is just an overview of some pictures and the things I did. Let s begin! (All the bloggers/booktubers I mention will be linked at the end!) Friday Friday was educator s day, but they had an author luncheon that was open to the public. The authors at the luncheon were Sarah Dessen, Ruta Sepetys, and E. Lockhart. I met up with my friend, Avery, to go to the event. As we were sitting in the lobby, we saw Marie Lu walk in and I started freaking out. I wanted to go and ask for a picture, but I was too shy to go up to her. We went inside and sat at a table close to the front (closest to the reserve author table). As we were sitting there, I look in the corner and Ruta Sepetys (AKA ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS) is standing in the corner. Avery and I went over to talk to Ruta, and she was absolutely adorable. If you ever have the chance to meet Ruta, please seize your opportunity because she s absolutely brilliant. Avery and I got a picture with her. img_5994 1 We finally got the courage to take a picture with Marie Lu, so here s my picture with Marie: IMG_0612 I was able to get my entire Legend trilogy signed by her the next day. I didn t get a chance to talk to her during the signing because there wasn t enough time. After getting a picture with Marie, I sat down to start ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Assessment Of A Community s Decision For Real Initiative According to Monmonier (1996), those who do have Internet and GIS accessibility face the potential to be placed in a vulnerable position. He believes that the public who is armed with a GIS but lacking the savvy to use the system appropriately becomes vulnerable to sarcastic attacks from site advocates . Meaning, that a community s opinion may not be taken seriously or may be misrepresented in the eyes of policymakers because the people in that community may not be using the GIS software correctly, therefore they do not comprehend the data that is being presented to them in a GIS platform. This connects to another complication, that the general public may not have the basic training requirements needed to properly understand GIS software. Referring back to Carver, et al (2001), one of the issues they encountered during the observation of the Neighbourhood Initiatives Foundation s Planning for Real initiative was a general lack of familiarity with GIS software, especially from older age groups of manual trade. The solution to these issues cannot be resolved in a short period of time as these are mainly socio economic complications, however, attainable solutions are present. As far as GIS comprehensive, this will become less of an issue as more people become familiar with using computers and maps through work and education (Carver et al, 2001). As mentioned earlier in Baker s (2005) article, strides are being made to teach K 12 students Web GIS, for digital learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although some people believe that, realistically, a vegan diet comes with an abound of benefits for animals, the body and the environment. To begin, a vegan diet is a way to end animal cruelty in factories and farms. Animal cruelty begins in giant indoor farms that keep animal confined to cages and barely have any sunlight, known as animal factories, so that countries can meet the demand for meat, cheeses and other products. In the pitch I discussed how the lead character (Matt Murdoch) would be explain to the Jury why Fair Dealing is not stealing and he would be the Punishers lawyer. However, I changed it in the final video making him the plaintiff, a company lawyer saying the defendant ( Punisher ) stole their content and he is not protected by Fair Dealing . I changed it to this as I believed it would make the video more narratively engaging, making the Punishers outburst more provoked and meaningful. I also removed the self referential element where the Punisher was going to comment on how the video was flipped and colour graded so it would not come up on YouTube copyright detection system. I changed this element as I believed it would make my RWMC more focused and comedic in a serious way. The elements I changed after I presented my RWMC piece were both things the markers and classmates commented on. They said some of the subtitles in the first half went by too fast, so they struggled to read everything being said before the subtitle changed. To remedy this I changed the subtitles from the first half of the video to make it more concise and easier to read, removing words and rewording/rephrasing the subtitles. • 26. Polonius Literary Devices In Act I Scene III of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Polonius, the father of Laertes and Ophelia, enters as Laertes is saying his goodbye to Ophelia. Polonius talks to each of the two characters directly at different points in this scene; however, the conversations are both meant to be a helpful warning and lesson to each of the characters. The main point, or crux, of the conversation between Polonius and Laertes was a series of small, fatherly tips and lessons to Laertes before he goes off on his trip to Paris. The main point of the conversation between Polonius and Ophelia was a warning that Ophelia shouldn t get mixed up with Hamlet romantically because Hamlet wouldn t truly love her. A literary device that Shakespeare employs within the conversation between Polonius and Laertes would be the use of sentence structure. During the lecture to Laertes, Shakespeare ends every piece of advice with a period, ultimately separating the different parts of his lesson. This structure creates a kind of list that the audience is able to put together although it is not specifically separated. This serves to prove the point that Laertes has a lot left to learn but not enough time so Shakespeare sends Polonius to teach these important lessons quickly before Laertes is ... • 29. What Is The Role Of Religion In The Catholic Church Unlike the Protestant Church, the Catholic Church practices all of the sacraments throughout the human life cycle. The Church believes that the sacraments guide the soul to salvation and help believers to achieve grace from Christ. They teach that Christ is actively present during the ceremonies of the sacraments. The sacraments of the Catholic Church originated from Christ and his teachings. Baptism is the new member of the Church participating in Jesus ultimate sacrifice when he died for our sins and made it possible to be saved by Christ. It acts as the gateway to the other sacraments. Through Baptism, the Church teaches that we are freed from sin and born again as children of Christ. In Lectures in Systematic Theology, by Henry Thiessen, he quotes Clarkson to explain that a person receives Sanctifying Grace, which, is known as sacramental grace inasmuch as it carries with it a right to the supernatural helps necessary and useful for the accomplishment of the purpose of each sacrament . This grace ensures the passage to heaven; in being baptized you are brought to the eyes of God and he sees the individual as a member of the Church. In early adolescent years the sacrament of Confirmation takes place to confirm faith in Christ. Confirmation adds to the grace you receive at Baptism. In the Catholic Church, it s customary for infants to be baptized in order to ensure their passage to heaven. Baptisms usually take place on Sundays during Mass. Typically, Children are baptized with Holy water and oils on the head and not fully submerged. Those being baptized traditionally wear white clothing to symbolize their faith and the renewing power of the ceremony itself. Godparents are also a tradition that the Catholic Church upholds. The baptized child or person will have a godparent of each gender, often times members of the extended family or close friends of the parents. The original role of the godparent was to take care of the child if it was orphaned, but now the role is primarily to set a good Christian role model for the new member. The majority of Protestant churches only require faith in Christ to become a member. The Church encourages the Baptism of adults because they can understand and pledge ... World Beer Consumption Claudia Ruiz October 3, 2011 MGMT 80 International Business Written Assignment: The World Beer Industry Beer Around the World Approximately, 100 billion liters of beer are consumed around the world every year (Olfir, 2007). The worldwide growth rate of beer consumption has been recorded for the past 19 years (Kirin Holdings, 2005). This, however, is not to say that the beer consumption around the world is alike. The alcoholic beverage consumption levels around the world and the rates at which these increase vary from one country to another. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the industry could possibly help the economic stability of a country, I believe it does a greater harm to the different nations. I believe that one possibly solution that would allow the beer industry to prosper without causing much harm, is if as they enter a nation to introduce their product, they help create programs that educate people on the consumption of alcohol. I believe that if people are educated on the subject matter and know the consequences of drinking this product, they will continue to consume the beverage but being more responsible. This, in my opinion, will not have a negative affect on the beer industry. Another way that a nation can prevent the consequences of alcohol consumption caused by worldwide brewers is by creating greater taxation or other barriers that would hinder the production and selling of beer in their nation. This scenario, however, might be one that the beer industry might one to avoid. Unlike my first suggestion, this would have a greater negative impact on the industry. Such situation would lower sales in the given country affecting the revenue of the company. I also believe that although the rate of alcohol consumption in many developing countries is increasing, these rates will begin to slow down. However, females are receiving unequal judgement and unfair treatment in the society, and thus Marilyn Frye brings up the notion of oppression , claiming that women are oppressed. Throughout the essay, I will first give the definition of Frye s oppression and then list 5 critical qualifications to be considered oppressed. After that, I will explain my appreciation on Frye s perspective on elaborating oppression using the bird cage analogy. I will support Frye s double bind argument for sexism followed by flaws in the argument. Furthermore, I will point out some social group are mistakenly placed inside or outside the parameters of oppression, once the theory of oppression extends over other marginal groups. Given the definition of oppression as a system of interrelated barriers and forces which mold , immobilize , and reduce a certain group of people, and affect their subordination to another group (Frye 4), Frye lists out five premises in order to be considered oppressed. First of all, the group of people must be restricted. In other words, there must be limitations or barriers on them. For example, women make 78 cents for every dollar earned by men (Kessler 1). Second, those restrictions surely cause harm, which must outweigh any potential benefits oppressed groups experience as a result of those same restrictions (Gillingham 1). For ...
