Essay on The Necessity of Selfishness
Previously, parents quickly taught their children the importance of sharing and considering others
needs before their own. They expected their offspring to submissively sacrifice incongruent desires
and wishes. Parents did not tolerate selfishness from anyone at anytime. Then came the millennials,
also called the me generation. The typical millennial, concerned only with his or her own
happiness, pursues self satisfaction relentlessly. They only reflect upon their fellow man s needs
when it benefits them. Millennials have been called lazy, selfish, and worthless by their peers. This
leads one to ponder selfishness roots, how it became such an undesirable trait and whether or not it
actually impairs society. Through Atlas Shrugged, Ayn... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She simply argues that they should embrace selfishness enough to align their values and their lives.
She sates that, the most selfish of all things is the independent mind. (Rand 943)
With selfishness clearly defined, Rand uses the plot to illustrate her conviction. She begins by
calling destruction sacrifice s result. When United States citizens contentedly give control to the
government, everything falls apart. Businesses go bankrupt following corrupt laws in fairness
name. People starve and disappear. The government mistreats and abuses the public in every form;
however, they refuse to question their actions or even think. I feel as if...as if there s no people and
no human language left...I feel that someone is screaming in the middle of the streets, but people
are passing by and no sound can reach them. (Rand 406) Eddie wilders captures what happens when
people willingly sacrifice themselves because a stranger orders it without revealing why. When
humanity will not use their minds, think, analyze or even question, when they rely solely on
emotion, destruction will inevitably follow. Any refusal to accept reality, for any reason whatever,
has disastrous consequences.

Yahweh In The Book Of Jonah Bible
In the Hebrew Bible, due to its anthological nature, there are a wide variety of viewpoints that are
expressed from different periods of time. While some books have mainly a negative view on
foreign nations and peoples, there are a few that are somewhat positive. The books of Joshua,
Jonah, and Esther all illustrate distinct perspectives and approaches that the Israelites had to people
of foreign nations, which help to create an overall picture of the different beliefs that the various
authors of the Hebrew Biblecarried. In the book of Joshua and previously, the people of Israelare
told to remove all of the people that are in the land that God had given them. They are not to leave
even one person alive, because Yahweh wanted only His people... Show more content on

This can be seen in that, after finding out that Esther was a Jew, the king did not kill her. In Esther,
Haman had planned to kill all of the Jews in Persia, and after this plan was revealed to Xerxes at
the second dinner party, he ordered that Haman be killed and proceeded to appoint Mordecai,
another Jew and Esther s cousin, as the prime minister. In Jonah, Yahweh has mercy on the
people of Nineveh after they repent of their sins. This particular point serves as irony, in that
Jonah as one of Yahweh s people disobeyed, while the people of the foreign land obeyed, which
serves to put a more positive view of the foreigners to those that read the book. In differences,
though, the most obvious is between the book of Joshua and the books of Jonah and Esther.
Joshua paints all foreigners are bad and that they should all be eradicated, but Jonah and Esther
paint foreigners in a somewhat better light. In Jonah, the Gentiles obeyed Yahweh, when the
Israelites didn t. In Esther, the guy that wants to destroy all the Israelites is killed and illustrated to
be a bad guy, while other people that weren t Israelites were against the man s idea to do so. In
both of these circumstances, Gentiles are viewed in much better ways that in

The State s Electoral System
POLI 201: Electoral Reform in Canada

TA: Camilo Torres, T03
The format of a state s electoral system plays a foundational role in the quality of its democracy.
Illiberal democracies, for example, may limit potential opponents of the ruling party; these kinds of
states are generally said to be less democratic than those which encourage political freedom.
Because a nation s electoral structure influences the nature of its democracy, one must take a
critical view on current systems and seek to better them where possible. Though not an extreme
example, the electoral system in Canada can be said to hinder democracy, albeit indirectly, leading
to apathy and discontent amongst the electorate. In a disproportionate system such as Canada s,
citizens voices are not as easily or accurately represented. For this reason, it is of utmost
importance to consider electoral reform so that Canada s system is more proportionate and
conducive to political engagement. Canada s current electoral arrangement is known as a single
member plurality or first past the post system. In this system, the basis of seat distribution is who
has the most votes during an election. For example, a candidate who wins 34 percent of the popular
vote will go on to represent a riding, even if the rest of the votes go to two or more different parties.
Plurality systems increase government stability and effectiveness using a manufactured majority

Causes Of The Russo-Japanese War
The Russo Japanese War started January 1904. Japan broke diplomatic relations Russia February 6,
following with an attack on Port Arthur February 8. Declaring war February 10, Japanese soldiers
occupied Korea, advancing into Manchurian territory with naval forces occupying Liaodong
Peninsula. An August siege of Port Arthur followed the attack and fell in January 1905. Gradually,
both powers found difficulty to continue fighting. The war ended, however, both powers consulted
Theodore Roosevelt s mediation to determine who won; Japan had won which ensued the
Portsmouth Treaty to grant Japan back it s sovereignty in China and Manchuria, along with special
access to the Liaodong Peninsula. What were the underlying causes of the Russo Japanese War? To
what extent did nationalism/imperialism contribute to the war? What did the government do to
contribute to the war? Japan s motives for the war stemmed from tension between Russia; the Triple
Intervention and the construction of the Trans Siberian railroad. Imperialist and nationalistic
motives drove Japan, using authoritative and irrational actions, to change its leader of military
power and created a blanket of astigmatism throughout Japan s people, taking away freedom of
speech completely.
Before the war, events like the Sino Japanese War, Triple Intervention, Anglo Japanese Treaty, and
the Trans Siberian railroad contributed to the tension. In 1894, the Sino Japanese War broke
between Japan and China, competing for their

Totem Pole Research Paper
Totem poles can tell stories, represent ceremonies, and much more. The totem pole is very
intricate and a very special and honorary item. My totem pole is based on my family. The
animals I have chosen all have a special meaning to me. The reason I am doing a family totem
pole is that family always comes first to me and family is one of the greatest blessings you can
have. I selected a bear at the bottom of my totem pole. This bear represents my father s side of
the family, hence the name, Lonebear . Most bears are quite strong, so that is why it is at the
bottom because it has the strength to hold up the rest of the animals. A bear is a symbol of
courage and being fearless. I may not be that close to my dad s side of the family, but they are still

Toby s Struggles in This Boy’s Life
This Boy s Life is a 1993 film adapted from the memoir by Tobias Wolff, a popular contemporary
writer, which was first published in 1989. The film is directed by Michael Caton Jones and stars
Leonardo DiCaprio as Tobias Wolff, Robert De Niro as his stepfather Dwight Hansen, and Ellen
Barkin as Toby s motherCaroline. The film starts with Caroline and Toby driving away from their
past to Utah, where they plan to find uranium and hope to begin a new life. Their familybroke 5
years ago, when Toby s dad married a rich woman and took Toby s older brother, Gregory, with
him. Caroline s new relationship doesn t work out well either; her naГЇve hope to become richer
can t come true, and she again decides to change her and her son s life by moving to Washington
state. This is where Caroline meets Dwight Hansen, who wants to marry her and seems to be the
best way of finally settling down. Although the film, This Boy s Life, depicts all of its characters
conflicts and personal issues to some extent, it has Toby s character stand out of all of them in the
film with all the struggles he faces with an absentee biological father, a non supportive mother, an
abusive stepfather, and the normal trials of a teenage boy constantly fighting for identity and
fighting his inner and outer worlds.
Toby, who chooses to be called Jack in order to cut any connection with his father, is a regular

Human And Human Differences In Humans
In Humans as well as other species we can see some obvious differences between males and
females. Differences such as the development of a penis or vagina, muscle mass, body size, the
distribution of fat and the amount of distribution of body hair are all the differences that can be
observed in Humans. These differences are a result of a long chain of events that begin during the
early phases of embryology. It Involves Complex interaction between the environment and gene
expression.
Chromosomes
Being male or female is determined in stages beginning at fertilization when the sex chromosomes
carried by the sperms meet the egg. Females have XX chromosomes and Males have XY
chromosomes. Having XX females and XY males provides a genetic framework for developmental
events that eventually give us Male or female appearance. The formation of reproductive structures
we see in Males and females depend on several factors, this includes gene action and interaction
within the embryo. Interactions with other embryos that may be in the uterus. As mentioned this
process is not straightforward, having XX and XY does not always mean that individual is either
male or female. The outcome depends on the distribution of genes on the X and Y chromosome. All
eggs that are produced by females carry the X chromosomes, in males about half of the mature
sperms curry the X chromosomes. An egg that is fertilized by a sperm that has the X
chromosomes will have XX Zygote and will develop into a female

Genetic diversity allows the population to adapt to changing environments and it contributes and
adds to the gene pool.
Interbreeding and hybridization of coyote/red wolf populations has remained a constant threat to the
survival of the pure red wolf species.
Whilst red wolves and coyotes have similar features, they are not of the same species; however
they do share a common ancestor.
Red wolves, Gray wolves, Coyotes and Domestic dogs can all interbreed and successfully produce
offspring that are fertile as they are part of the same genus (Canis). While social structures and
territoriality usually prevents this, small red wolf populations inter breeding with large coyote
populations have proved detrimental to the red wolf population and was one of the reasons the red
wolf populations was severely decimated.
Many threats to the red wolf include loss of habitat and ecosystem due to human activities such as
deforestation and degradation of environment agriculture and shooting as well as climate change as
red wolves generally prefer swampy wet lands.

For management team or an organization layoff is never easy especially if they are good workers.
Nonetheless, sometimes it comes unexpected and the company is beginning to go downhill, as
well, cost is becoming a factor. Manager now must determine the hardest decision ever of who they
must let go and who they would keep during this process of saving cost for the company. In
preparation for this managementteam must come together in addressing to those employees why

The Peloponnesian War and the Decline of Leadership in Athens
Thucydides set out to narrate the events of what he believed would be a great war one requiring
great power amassed on both sides and great states to carry out. Greatness, for Thucydides, was
measured most fundamentally in capital and military strength, but his history delves into almost
every aspect of the war, including, quite prominently, its leaders. In Athensespecially, leadership
was vital to the war effort because the city s leaders were chosen by its people and thus, both shaped
Athens and reflected its character during their lifetimes. The leaders themselves, however, are
vastly different in their abilities and their effects on the city. Thucydides featured both... Show more

The Greeks practiced what was essentially a policy of strict isolationism fighting when they felt
their own territorial holdings being violated but refraining from complex inter Hellenic alliances
and subjugation for profit. The navies, and especially their role in the Persian Wars changed all this.
Equally significant in containing Greek power early on was the tradition of rule by tyrants, who, as
a result of their habit of providing simple for themselves...made safety the great aim of their policy,
and prevented anything great proceeding from them... (I.17). Here too, however, a sweeping change
took place just before the Persian invasion as Sparta put down Greek tyrants and set up democracy
in Athens. It was these two significant changes the construction of a navy in Athens and the
institution of democracy as its government that put Athens in a position to assume the role of major
Mediterranean power, and it was the Persian invasion that gave it the chance to take advantage of
that position (I.18).
The Athenians at the Second Lacedaemonian Congress contended that it was inevitable that Athens
would take such a chance when offered, arguing that it has always been the law that the weaker
should be subject to the stronger (I.76.2). Indeed, the primacy of self interest in determining the

Apple vs. The F.B.I.
On December 2, 2015, two shooters opened fire at holiday party, killing 14 people and injuring
22. During a gun battle with law enforcement both shooters were killed. The Federal Bureau of
Investigation (F.B.I.) had recovered a locked and encrypted iPhone that was in the possession of
one of the shooters as part of the evidence. The F.B.I. was unable to access any data on the phone
and so they turned to Apple for assistance.
Apple willingly gave the F.B.I. all information they had available to them. Weeks later the F.B.I.
returned to ask Apple for assistance in unlocking the phone. The F.B.I. stated that they were unsure
whether or not there was any information pertinent to the investigation on the phone. Apple advised
the F.B.I. that they were unable to unlock the phone without the password and suggested that the
F.B.I. take the device back to the home of the suspect, plug it in and allow it to back up to the cloud.
The phone was owned by the county and was given to the suspect as a result of their employment

The Impact Of Coaching On Adults With Obesity
The Impact of Coaching on Adults with Obesity
Andrea Bellamy

Abstract
Obesity is a major issue in the United States. Not only is it a risk factor for other chronic diseases
such as hypertension and diabetes, but it also has a significant impact on a person s long term
health and wellness. Research has identified health coaching as an effective intervention for
decreasing obesity in adults. This paper described the purpose/need of health coaching, effective
techniques involved in the coaching process, its impact on adults with obesity.

Health coaching is client oriented and works to establish behavior changes in order to improve the
quality of a person s life (Kivela et al., 2014). This paper will describe the purpose/need of health
coaching, effective techniques involved in the coaching process, and its impact on adults with
obesity. It will also identify how the effectiveness of health coaching on obesity will impact the
author s coaching business, methods of practice, and the author personally.
According to Wong Rieger Rieger (2013), the addition of health coaching is significantly more
effective than health education alone. Health coaching involves motivating clients to identify and
achieve goals that can help them to improve their health and quality of life (Kivela et al., 2014).
Health coaches help clients to identify and overcome obstacles that affect their ability to make
positive health choices (Kivela et al., 2014). Health coaches are not experts, but rather they work
together with their clients to set goals, problem solve and hold the client accountable for their
actions (Wong Rieger Rieger, 2013).
Because of the significant increase of obesity in the United States, researchers believe that
behavioral factors play more of a vital role than biological factors in the development of obesity
(Newnham Kanas, Irwin, Morrow Battram, 2011). This is why an effective health coaching
approach combines several

The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda(NES) is a high fantasy action adventure video game series created by
Japanese game designers Takashi Tezuka and Shigeru Miyamoto. It was developed and published
by Nintendo. The main platforms associated with this game include: Game boy, Nintendo64,
Gamecube, Wii, and the Nintendo Entertainment System. The Legend of Zelda plots centers on a
boy named Link whose goal is to collect the eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom in order to
rescue Princess Zelda from the enemy, Ganon. Over time, players tend to become quite skilled if

In the Legend of Zelda, the sword less speed running game completely transformed the game.
Sword less speed running is played by gamers who yearn for a challenge it s a normal run, except
that you can t use a sword throughout the game until you encounter, Gannon. Gannon cannot be
killed without a sword, unlike the other enemies in the game who can be killed using a bomb,
candles, wands, and boomerangs. This is the fastest strategy to complete the game, because you are
not focused in killing the enemies, but rather on dashing through levels as fast as possible. The
sword less community defied the instructions of the developers, because the sword was intended to
be used throughout the game. This community believed that the normal rules were too easy and as
a result made their own rules to enhance the challenge and fun aspects of the game. Nevertheless,
this community exploited the game because they found a way to surpass this rule. Yes, the primary
objective is to find a weapon but that necessarily doesn t have to be the sword, this community
learned that they can utilize candles, bombs, and arrows to use against enemies. Players who
perform speed runs often record their attempts, these recordings entertain others, verify the time

The essay Persons and Others written by Lorraine Code reviews and responds to specific issues
and details in the novel As We Are Now by May Sarton. As We Are Now is a novel about the
struggles the elderly face when that time comes. The story is told from Miss Caro Spencer s
point of view, beginning when she is brought and left at a mediocre nursing home for the elderly.
She tells about hardships of growing old from the mental, emotional and physical troubles. Caro is
forced to stay at Twin Elms nursing home by her older brother John and his much younger wife

The women refer to the people in their care as nothing more than poor things , as if they aren t

saying that they are worth nothing. As stated by Code on page 4 Treating a personas little more than
an object, in its cognitive dimension, implies acknowledging no significant differences between
such a person and an ordinary, everyday object , what I get from this is that the women who run
the nursing home and those who objectify any person are completely ignorant. Before you can
judge and objectify, though you really should never objectify people, you need to truly know a
person and understand who they are and where they came from; a treatment that Caro s caretakers
never gave her or any other guest in their nursing home. Code explains through Kantian s
formulation that one must always treat with humanity and that there are different levels of
knowing other people. It takes time to truly know some one and if we just give time to
understand people we could treat them much better and more appropriately. These two women
who run Twin Elms have put themselves in this position and portray themselves as responsible
women who can be trusted with old, senile, and overall vulnerable people. Code believes the best
way to care for these type of old people is sympathetically and compassionately; as we would want

Photography And The Invention Of Photography
Approaching the turn of the twentieth century, photography was used mainly scientifically, to
gather data and make observations. Aside from some independent portrait work, the camera was not
considered a highly artistic instrument. Cameras were barely given a second look in aristocratic
artistic circles. The idea that photographycould not be art met challenges in Britain by the Pictorial
movement, the vision of photography similar in subject to impressionist paintings that aimed to
make viewers emotional. This movement took a heavy foothold at a time when cameras were just
entering the consumer market; later making it s way across the pond to America. It is evident when

On the other hand Edward Weston transformed simple objects like shells, leaves, and rocks with
heavy shadows and sharp contrast, making intriguing interest (Szarkowski). Both wall worthy
artists became so effective at making attractive photographs, they earned inspiring expositions at
notable institutions. They helped spur the interest of the general public to view photographs as art
and the camera as an instrument of pleasure rather than one of work. The look of a photograph
during the time was different than anything that came before, and their styles show even in today s
photographs. Especially the work of Weston does not appear outdated . It complements modern
tastes as well.
Separating Pictorialist Photography for other photographic forms is its emphasis on emotion. A
point was made so audiences would feel connected to the still frames. If a painting could make a
old woman reflect on the happy times in her life or bring out despair in a man who had lost a
child, why couldn t a photograph do the same? To accomplish this, Käsebier pioneered women
and domestic urban situations to evoke emotions in a wide range from lust and pleasure to
frustration and disgust, a particularly marveling feat ( Gertrude Käsebier ). Later, Weston used
increasingly abstract scenes, frequenting landscapes to paint emotions (Szarkowski). The fact that

U.s. Dprk, Nuclear Weapons, And Violation Of Human Rights
Summary This briefing will address the necessities of United Nations to pressure the Democratic
People of the Republic Korea, also known as North Korea, by adding sanction to the country. As
a hegemonic state, the United States is a significant state to play a role as the leader to enforce
DPRK to withdraw itself from the threat of the global security and morality. DPRK had broken
many regulations of the UN treaties on militarization, nuclear activities, and violation of human
rights. Although the US is one the countries that has the most stock of nuclear weapons , it is
aware of its destructiveness and vulnerability more than any country that hold nuclear weapons
today. After continuous negotiations to suspend its conductivity of nuclear activities, DPRK had
repeatedly engaged and disengaged its pursuit for a nuclear reform. Should the U.S. violate
DPRK sovereignty and prioritize world peace and order? As an established great militarily
powerful state, the United States must persuade the UN to keep adding sanctions against the
DPRK. Background Korea as One It is necessary to know the process of how Democratic People
of the Republic of Korea was established and how its brutality and thirst for power became

North and South, together with a connected peninsula. However, once imperialism and colonialism

Becoming A Texas Senator Essay
Texas Senator
If I were to become a senator of Texas I would have to be at least thirty years of age, have been a
citizen for nine years, and live within the state of Texas. Since the Senate consists of a hundred
members, two per state, I would be one of two people to be elected for Texas State Senator.I
would be active six terms and would make $174,00 a year. A Congressional Session usually last
most of the year. The Senate met 136 days through the course of ten months according to

As a Senator of Texas I would like more strict gunlaws. I know that this issue has been brought up
over the past few years and that it didn t do so well with texans, but I do believe that a better gun
control plan would benefit the state. Statistics state that the United States has over three hundred
million civilian firearms in circulation and twenty times the homicide rate than all other western
nations combined. And recent practices conducted in other countries have proven that the
restriction of guns has had a dramatic impact on the death rate. For example, Japan passed a law
in 1958 prohibiting the possession of firearms. Since then Japan has become the country with the
second lowest death rate in the world. Similarly, after passing strict gun laws in the 1990 s,
Australia and the United Kingdom have noticed a drastic decrease in gun related deaths. Don t get

Spike Lee s Denzel Washington In Malcolm X
What is a movie without characters? More importantly, what is a movie without actors? An actor is
at the heart of the film and is solely responsible for stimulating the audience s emotions. Moreover,
actors allow us to unwind and dream in another world and free us of our daily pain. Once such actor
that transports us to the world permeated by the harsh reality of racism in the mid twentieth century
is Denzel Washingtonin Malcolm Xdirected by Spike Lee and written by Alex Haley. This biopic

This includes but is not limited to the actor s expressive coherence, consistency, emotional range,
effect on audience, and memorability. When considering expressive coherence in Denzel
Washington s performance, one must look for moments when his actions did not resemble the
character of Malcolm X, which is that of an ambitious leader. In his performance, there is nothing
but a pure sense of drive emanating from Washington s portrayal of Malcom X. That being said,
because Washington is faithful to his illustration of Malcolm X, it can also be said that he plays
to the beat at all times and is consistent. Another key determinant of the actor s performance is
whether if they can show a wide range of emotions. In fact, Washington demonstrates all six basic
types of emotions in this film. He displays anger and disgust when the police officer misuses his
power to mistreat a member of the African America community. Happiness is observed in
Washington when Malcolm journeys to Mecca. One witnesses surprise in Washington when he
discovers that his friends have betrayed him. Fear is observed in Washington s face when the
mobsters threaten him for cheating on a bet. As a conclusion, Washington s performance is not
limited when it comes to displaying emotions. Lastly, one must take into account whether if or not
the actor induced any effects in the audience. For me, I gained a sense of understanding for the
African American struggle to gain a status of social equality. So much so that I was inspired to go
out and vote this year. Washington s part in this movie was also memorable due to his passionate
devotion to playing this psychologically complex

The Importance Of The Arc De Triomphe
The Arc de Triomphe is also another building that attracts many people who would be willing to
be part of the tourists visiting it. It is regarded as one of the most famous monuments around Paris
and is found centrally at the Palace Charles de Gaulle. The arc was established as an honor those
who fought and died for Francein the French Revolutionary as well as the Napoleonic Wars. The
arc also has, inscribed on it, the names of all the victories that France had as well as the names
of the generals who were critical towards ensuring that the country was able to attain the
victories (Duval, 2017.) The arc acts as an important tool for storing the French history. One has
the ability to establish the different issues that the nation has faced, as well as the huge sacrifice
that different people in the country put up towards ensuring that its sovereignty and dignity
would be sustained. It also as a good tool for students of history as it provides them with the
opportunity to gather more insights and facts of the two wars mentioned that France took part in
(Dente Tavasszy, 2016.) They are, therefore, able to determine some of the people who were
critical towards ensuring that the country would have the chance to win the wars and be able to

Introduction. Toronto, Including The Greater Toronto Area,
Introduction
Toronto, including the Greater Toronto Area, is a multicultural and urban Canadian city with a
current population of 5,406,324 (Monga Bay, n.d.). In 1985, Canada had an estimated population
3,356,000 and an estimated population of 4,925,000 people in 2005 (Monga Bay, n.d.). The
fluctuation in population reflects a simple change in number over time and that change can cause
an alteration of societal values, striving to change the criminal justice system.

Similarly, the perspectives of the youth probation officers in Toronto may differ from youth
probation officers from other cities in Ontario, along with other provinces and territories. In
addition, another limitation of this paper is that the answers given by the youth probation officers
were done within the past five years, during the Youth Criminal Justice Act. However, the act was
implemented in 2003, with many officers who started their work prior to the enactment, which may
cause a variation of their values in youth justice. To counter this complication, the interviews will
provide insight on challenges the youth probation officers in the city have faced progressively.
Young Offenders Act
Criminal justice systems, along with the accompanying policies, are continuously changing and
moving towards modernity (Brabazon, 2017). There is a change in value judgement when
modernity is applied to society. The movement towards modernity and the shift in value judgment
makes a criminal justice system supposedly morally superior with the combination of human rights
(Brabazon, 2017).
As previously mentioned, from 1984 to 2003, Canada used the Young Offenders Act as the
legislation for the youth criminal justice system (Umamaheswar, 2013, p. 1163). The Young
Offenders Act replaced the Juvenile Delinquents Act and preceded the Youth Criminal Justice Act
that Canada currently uses (Umamaheswar, 2013, p. 1163). The Young

Gun Control Debate Throughout Contemporary America
Gun Control Debate in Contemporary America
Introduction
The gun control debate has dominated US history, and it has been a controversial issue in itself
considering that the right to bear and keep arms is one among the few bitterly divisive issues of
American constitutional law. The Second Amendment is significant in this debate, providing the
basis upon which those supporting robust gun regulation as fundamental, collective, and civic right

been placed by gun rights advocates, comparing this to press freedom in enabling citizens to

The Pennsylvania Declaration of Rights obligated each citizen s contribution to protecting others,
and hence introducing the right to bear arms for a distinct public purpose and thus, contextually,
supporting a civic, military, and collective proposition to the right instead of an individual right to
personally protect themselves. This led to the formulation of three positions regarding this granted
right, that of an indirect enabling of a natural right for self defense, enabling a militia system, or
making sure that there is an armed citizenry that would provide the counterbalance against
government excesses (Hardy 1243).
Rebellions as an Important Part of the Militia Debate
The Shay s Rebellion in Massachusetts in 1786 underscored the crisis that many Americans were
undergoing, and in particular concerning the civic obligation attached to gun ownership,
characterized by violent resistance to conventional law enforcement. There was a need by the
central government to improve its militia following the uneven performance of the Massachusetts
militia (Higginbotham 43). Under the leadership of Captain Daniel Shay, thousands of men were up
in arms, closing courthouses in the western counties, including Massachusetts, intimidating judges,
and thus threatening the arsenal of the Confederation at Springfield (Cornell 33). Although they
were eventually dispersed by government forces, the rebels were supported by some militia units in

Technology: The Effects on Music throughout History
Music and technology aid one another. In a way a person can capture music they love through
technology and then the electronic companies flourish due to the sale and popularity of these
electronic devices. If a person wants to listen to music they can turn on a stereo or TV, choose a
CD or DVD to play, or listen to a songs downloaded in ITunes. All of these devices are proof to
show how technology is used to record, play, and change the way music is heard. A look through
history will show how far society has come in music alone. The development of technology has
changed the way the music industry operates and the way society hears and purchases music today.
It started off with humming, then singing. People sang in church choirs, in the living room, or on
a stage. Music can be heard by vocals or by the melodic tune of instruments. People paid to go to
symphonies and listen to composers perform their masterpieces. Family gathered around the piano,
or at a church to listen to music on the holidays. Music was not portable, nor was it recordable.
According to the novel, Looking Backward in 1888, the philosophy was that technology was the
solution to the ills plaguing modern life and the means to achieve a perfect society (Katz, 51).
Meaning that life was boring and technology was the answer to bettering and changing society. In
1877, Thomas Edison invented the

Keeping A Diary Doubles Diet Weight Loss
Method Activity
1.Correlational vs. Causation The topic Keeping a Diary Doubles Diet Weight Loss seems to offer
a solution in relation to weight loss and keeping a diary. Therefore, without reading the article, the
topic offers an impression of a causal claim. Causal claims are supported by having independent
and dependent variable. The independent variable is the factor that can be manipulated to result to
change on another factor (Christensen, Johnson Turner, 2014). In other words, the independent
variable represents the cause while the dependent variable represents the effect in an experiment

The Hidden Life Of Garbage Analysis
People often wonder if they are living the right life. Everyone knows the difference between right
and wrong, but no one really knows if what they do is actually the right thing in the long run.
people s fates are guided by every choice they make and one wrong choice can change everything.
Even though every person is different and they have different opinions people should live their lives
waste free, discriminationfree, and tech free.
People should live their lives waste free because it would help them in the long run.
In, The Hidden Life of Garbage, Rogers said
But the fact remains that these systems are short term solutions to the garbage problem. While they

Nowadays, Americans use technology to obtain information, because it s easier than knowing the
material. This has become a huge distraction and it s making people rely on technology way
more than is needed, especially the young people. For example, they use Google to search things
like homework, essays, speeches, etc. They do this as a shortcut to getting their work done
faster because they can find what they are looking for in a matter of seconds, instead of actually
doing the work by themselves and it s leading to an intellectually impoverished society. In the
article, Is Google Making Us Stupid, the author believes that Google is used by most people to
find information by just typing in a couple of words; however, those people don t learn the
information or value knowledge (Carr). This wouldn t be a problem for the people if they lived
a tech free life because without technology there is no reliance on it. Also if they lived a tech
free life, they wouldn t have to worry about getting spied on. Technology, such as phones, is used
to spy on people because the government and big companies like to keep track of their every
move. In, That s no phone. That s my tracker, the author stated cellphone carriers respond to law
enforcement s request for call data, internet use, GPS, etc. In 2011, they responded 1.3 million
times to these request and this is just

Maus Elements
Art Spiegelman s Maus is a famous, Pulitzer Prize winning tale about the journey of a Jewish
Holocaust survivor. Despite the amount of similar storylines, Spiegelman s creativity with the
normal elements of comics has won him high praise. This analysis will focus on Spiegelman s
unique twist on icons, layouts, diegesis, abstraction, and encapsulation as displayed by Maus. Icons
are pictures that are used to embody a person, place, thing, or idea. McCloud hammers this concept
home by drawing random things, such as a cow (McCloud, pg. 26), but reminds the reader that it is
technically not a real cow. It is just an image.
In Maus, Spiegelman s characters are icons; he utilizes everyday, commonplace animals to represent
the humans in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, by including less detail, Spiegelman makes his characters easier to relate to, or as
McCloud references, more universal. After Vladek recalls the hanging of a few of his associates,
Spiegelman illustrates a very plain, bleak image of him mourning their loss in present day. The
image consists of the most basic character features, making it effortless for the reader to mentally
input their face on Vladek s. Overall, this amplification through simplification (McCloud), aids the
reader in feeling the emotion of the character, finding a deeper connection to the story as a whole,
and can reveal universal truths. The layout of a comic is the relationship between one panel to the
rest of the panels in the sequence, the page, and the rest of the book. Spiegelman constructs the
layout of his panels to bring his story to life. When Vladek is telling the story about the mandatory
registration of all Jews, which led to the disappearance of many close friends (pg. 91), Spiegelman
places Vladek at the bottom right hand corner of the page. This establishes the imagery of the boxes
weighing down on him in present time, as he appears to be struggling to get through the story and
contain his emotions. Furthermore, when Anja s father is telling Vladek that the Germans intend
on making an example of the Jews who ran the black market. Spiegelman enlarges the panel of the
Jews hanging in the town center, and depicts their dangling feet in the two panels below (page 83),

The Border Of The United States
The Unlawful border crossing in the U.S. Southern border has been of political interest for the past
decades. It has been the primary source of the illegal trades into U.S. from Mexico. Despite the
government efforts to end the act, there have not been long term solutions to the Menace. The vital
approach is to understand the structural nature of the borderand the socio cultural nature of the
inhabitants that facilitates the illegal act across the border. The lawful bill in place seems not to
offer a practical solution to combating the problem. The existing border and immigration policies
should be revised to provide a possible settlement to the illegal trade across the borders. Also, the
border barriers should be adequately constructed and guarded with border security officials.
Another crucial area for consideration is the cooperation between the two countries in combating
the illegal trade across the border. A cross border initiative like Merida by President Bush would
have been the significant initiative in promoting the U.S. Mexicocross border collaboration in
combating the Illegal Border Crossings. Due to the well coordinated nature of these criminal
networks, full federal cooperation like Boarder Enforcement Security Taskforce (BEST) should act
in combating the organized gangs.
Fixing the ruined southern border of the USA There has been an increase of unlawful border
crossings as well as the rise in cross border crimes such

What Is Wrong To Take Supplies From Work Wrong
We re just talking about a few lousy nails, said Archie Bunker in response to an accusation made
about his most recent act at work. Mr. Bunker had allegedly taken a box of nails without the
permission of his employer, yet, Mr. Bunker is not the only person committing this crime. Minimal
theft is a problem that people seem to think is morally acceptable, significantly more if the item
came from work. Although it is a small miscellaneous item, the quantity and the rate of which an
item is taken can impact the total profit from the employers. Regardless of the number or price of
the merchandise taken, it is theft nonetheless. Even using or borrowing equipment is ethically
unacceptable since the owner is not aware of it. Without a doubt, taking and using supplies from
work is improper behavior.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When workers take small objects from their workplace, they are taking items that are pennies on
the dollar. However when all of the pennies are counted on a grand scale, they accumulate to
massive amounts of dollars. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, the workers are
taking profits from their employers. The profits taken have long lasting effects that the workers are
not seeing. Companies and corporations will start cutting paychecks, increasing prices, and even
firing their employees when their net revenue starts declining. This is a situation where everyone
loses; the employees get their wages cut, the consumers become affected by inflation, and the
owners have to take preventative measures just to keep their companies afloat. These occurring

Similarities Between Washington McNeely by Edgar Lee...
Many authors are inspired to write by other things like a special thing in their day or sometimes
other writings or poems. Washington Mcneely by Edgar Lee Masters and Our Town by
Thornton Wilder themes because Our Town was inspired by many of Edgar Lee Masters
poems. Both pieces of work share the themes of death and time, a character similarities between
Mrs. Webb and Washington McNeely. Two themes the poem has is death and time. The poem
displays the theme of time, because it starts out telling the story of a man who is from, and
raises his children in, a noble and rich family. As his children get older, 2 of them died, and the
others, to quote the poem all were gone, or broken winged or devoured by life . He had lost,
essentially all of his children, and as we find out his wife. The poem shows how he went from a
great man with a happy family, to a lost man who is all alone. The next theme the poem shows is
death. Death is all throughout the poem. It starts with a man living a good life, but as it goes on
his first child leaves, his next 2 children die, and the next 3 become incredibly unsocial and that s
not even it! Near the end his wife, the mother of all 6 children, dies. I sat under my cedar tree, till
ninety years were tolled. The poem ends with the man dying, after everything he had lost; he died
in his favorite place to be, under his cedar tree. The book also displays the same themes as the
poem. The book, Our Town shows the theme of time, because we see two

Lot 51 for 6000 dollars. Because of budget constraints Duncan could not afford Lot 51. Presently,
Duncan has fair amount of budget and wants to buy Lot 51 so as to provide parking space for
his customers. I represent Duncan and Dan represents Mr. Jone s agent and we met to settle the
price of Lot 51 with a fair agreement. The negotiation between Dan and David is elaborated. This
paper will discuss various factors that contribute to a successful negotiation. Following which it
will emphasize on the skills required to become a good negotiator. Lastly, an outcome of insights
gained and their importance is postulated. I greeted Dan and we started to speak about the
relationship I had with Mr. Frank Jones and how he was a good man. Then the topic smoothly
shifted to the market value of the land near the Elm Street area. We were soon discussing about
Lot 51 and I quoted a price of 6,500 dollars. Dan showed some disappointment with the price and
explained how the market value of the land raised by 10% in six years. From his talking I could
understand that he was expecting a more profitable price. In an amiable way I asked Dan of how
much he was expecting for Lot 51. Instantly, he quoted 8000 dollars which was

Start of The Renaissance in Italy During the 15th Century
The word Renaissance means rebirth. It was a period when people rediscoverd learning and
looking back to the classical civilizations of Rome and Greece for their inspiration. It was an
exciting time of new inventions and amazing discoveries, magnificent buildings and beutiful art.
My aim in this essay, is to explain why the Renaissance started in Italy during the 15 century. In this
essay I will talk about; The growing wealth of Italy, divided Italy, the classical period, humanists,
trade and exploration.

The ancient ideas about beuty of mind, body and spirit, led on to a new philosophy, known as
humanism, which challenged the teachings of the medieval Church. Renaissance thinkers made
human beings, and human achivements, their main concern. They cared more about life in this
world, than about eternity. Most humanists did not reject altogether. But now they believed that, in
some ways, humans could be perfect, and almost equal to God. The discoveries by Renaissance
scholars in subjects as different as atonomy, music and maths all helped humanists. Scholars
considered shapes, such as squares and circles, to be mathematically perfect. They were delighted
that Roman architect Vitruvius had suggested that a perfect human body was naturally in harmony
with these perfect mathematical forms. They took this harmony as evidenve of a grand design , by
which the univese had been formed. Michaelangelo intended his painting to be more than just a
picture: it is a statement of humanist beliefs in the power and beuty of humankind. Michaelangelo
believed that without God, Adam could not live. Even so, he has portrayed him as strong, relaxed
and unafraid. Michaelangelo s painting shows us that, for some Renaissance artists,

The Hierarchy Of Needs Theory Essay
The Maslows Hierarchy of Needs Theory
Living beings act, and their behavior is driven by incentives, needs, and drives. Animals act only
by their instinctive desires. The behavior of animals is due to instinctive desires rather than by
thought. However, where does man s behavior originate from? Many psychologists have studied
this topic with interest. Man s behavior is also influenced by human desires. However, how human
desires influence human behavior is a very important issue. On this issue, psychologist Maslow
explores the hierarchy of needs theory through what human need is and how it affects human
behavior. Masslow s hierarchy of needs theory not only explains human behavior and causes well,
it has also influenced various fields. However, this theory has some limitations. First, Maslow s
hierarchy of needs theory is a theory that explains human behavior and causes. Maslow, a
psychologist, introduces Maslow s hierarchy of needs theory in [Motivation and Personality](1954).
This book testifies to his academic achievements and is the most important reference to those
interested in the theory of psychology, including psychology, pedagogy, business administration,
and social sciences, and the most cited psychology. It is considered one of the bible. In this book,
the Five Step Needs of Desire criticizes traditional behavioral psychological experiments and Freud
s psychoanalysis from a humanistic point of view and looks at human motives

distinguished and exclusive group deemed The Speech Geek Community. These Speech Geeks

Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Pets and Companion Animals

of gastrointestinal diseases that result in the inflammation of the gastrointestinal system and a
variety of symptoms. This is true for both dogs and cats. And, while the exact cause of ... Show

The food allergens thought to trigger the condition include meat proteins, milk proteins, artificial
coloring or other additives and preservatives and gluten from wheat and other grains. Some dog
breeds are more likely to develop IBD than others. These include French bulldogs, Irish setters,
lundehunds, and basenjis.
Signs and Effects of IBD in Pets
Cats and dogs both exhibit similar symptoms when struggling with IBD. Common signs of IBD in
pets are vomiting diarrhea, weight loss, abnormal appetite, and lack of energy, blood in the stool,
flatulence, borborygmus, or a rumbling in the guts, depression, fatigue, abdominal pain, and
distressed coat.
Diagnosis of IBD
Unfortunately, getting a definitive diagnosis of IBD can be very difficult. Many of the signs and
symptoms of IBD mirror those of a great many other diseases. Your veterinarian will want to get a
detailed history from you and as much information as you can give them regarding the symptoms
you ve observed, their duration, and severity. They are then likely to run a series of blood tests and
examine your pet s feces. An ultrasound or X rays may be order to check on the status of other
organs. Metabolic disease, parasitic infection, bacterial infection, some types of cancers, and (in
the case of cats) feline leukemia will all need to be ruled out prior to a diagnosis. A food trial

Descriptive Art Of Art
A wave of nostalgia washed over me when I opened the door to the Durbin Gallery. Waxy, bright,
colorful, and detailed pieces ornamented the white walled room. I smelt the same smell I did
when I was a student digging through my pencil box or when I was creating a colorful
masterpiece during my free time as a child. As I walked around the gallery and saw the pieces
that the artist, Herb Williams, created and displayed in his exhibit, Master Heist. I saw a can of
Campbell s Chicken Noodle Soup, a recreation of Vincent van Goghs The Starry Night, word
bubbles with text, and many more. Williams brought me back to my childhood and amazed me
within a matter of seconds of entering the exhibit by using familiar objects to make familiar
works of art. A thought I continuously had while walking around the exhibit was of how cool it
was to see how one individual used crayons, something I ve always correlated as a tool used to
make art, to create art. The individual pieces when observed from a distance looked to me to be
a vibrant printed picture. However, at a closer glance, it was easy to tell that it was not printed,
and that it was composed of an object that most all viewers can relate to in some way. The artist
took crayons in their most simplistic form, cylinders of wax, to a new level. The thousands of
crayons were arranged by color and placed specifically with either the point or flat ends facing
outwardly to create depth and movement in the pieces. This further pushed my

  • 2. Essay on The Necessity of Selfishness Previously, parents quickly taught their children the importance of sharing and considering others needs before their own. They expected their offspring to submissively sacrifice incongruent desires and wishes. Parents did not tolerate selfishness from anyone at anytime. Then came the millennials, also called the me generation. The typical millennial, concerned only with his or her own happiness, pursues self satisfaction relentlessly. They only reflect upon their fellow man s needs when it benefits them. Millennials have been called lazy, selfish, and worthless by their peers. This leads one to ponder selfishness roots, how it became such an undesirable trait and whether or not it actually impairs society. Through Atlas Shrugged, Ayn... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She simply argues that they should embrace selfishness enough to align their values and their lives. She sates that, the most selfish of all things is the independent mind. (Rand 943) With selfishness clearly defined, Rand uses the plot to illustrate her conviction. She begins by calling destruction sacrifice s result. When United States citizens contentedly give control to the government, everything falls apart. Businesses go bankrupt following corrupt laws in fairness name. People starve and disappear. The government mistreats and abuses the public in every form; however, they refuse to question their actions or even think. I feel as if...as if there s no people and no human language left...I feel that someone is screaming in the middle of the streets, but people are passing by and no sound can reach them. (Rand 406) Eddie wilders captures what happens when people willingly sacrifice themselves because a stranger orders it without revealing why. When humanity will not use their minds, think, analyze or even question, when they rely solely on emotion, destruction will inevitably follow. Any refusal to accept reality, for any reason whatever, has disastrous consequences. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Yahweh In The Book Of Jonah Bible In the Hebrew Bible, due to its anthological nature, there are a wide variety of viewpoints that are expressed from different periods of time. While some books have mainly a negative view on foreign nations and peoples, there are a few that are somewhat positive. The books of Joshua, Jonah, and Esther all illustrate distinct perspectives and approaches that the Israelites had to people of foreign nations, which help to create an overall picture of the different beliefs that the various authors of the Hebrew Biblecarried. In the book of Joshua and previously, the people of Israelare told to remove all of the people that are in the land that God had given them. They are not to leave even one person alive, because Yahweh wanted only His people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be seen in that, after finding out that Esther was a Jew, the king did not kill her. In Esther, Haman had planned to kill all of the Jews in Persia, and after this plan was revealed to Xerxes at the second dinner party, he ordered that Haman be killed and proceeded to appoint Mordecai, another Jew and Esther s cousin, as the prime minister. In Jonah, Yahweh has mercy on the people of Nineveh after they repent of their sins. This particular point serves as irony, in that Jonah as one of Yahweh s people disobeyed, while the people of the foreign land obeyed, which serves to put a more positive view of the foreigners to those that read the book. In differences, though, the most obvious is between the book of Joshua and the books of Jonah and Esther. Joshua paints all foreigners are bad and that they should all be eradicated, but Jonah and Esther paint foreigners in a somewhat better light. In Jonah, the Gentiles obeyed Yahweh, when the Israelites didn t. In Esther, the guy that wants to destroy all the Israelites is killed and illustrated to be a bad guy, while other people that weren t Israelites were against the man s idea to do so. In both of these circumstances, Gentiles are viewed in much better ways that in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The State s Electoral System POLI 201: Electoral Reform in Canada Kelsey Dechant UCID 30012085 November 10, 2015 TA: Camilo Torres, T03 The format of a state s electoral system plays a foundational role in the quality of its democracy. Illiberal democracies, for example, may limit potential opponents of the ruling party; these kinds of states are generally said to be less democratic than those which encourage political freedom. Because a nation s electoral structure influences the nature of its democracy, one must take a critical view on current systems and seek to better them where possible. Though not an extreme example, the electoral system in Canada can be said to hinder democracy, albeit indirectly, leading to apathy and discontent amongst the electorate. In a disproportionate system such as Canada s, citizens voices are not as easily or accurately represented. For this reason, it is of utmost importance to consider electoral reform so that Canada s system is more proportionate and conducive to political engagement. Canada s current electoral arrangement is known as a single member plurality or first past the post system. In this system, the basis of seat distribution is who has the most votes during an election. For example, a candidate who wins 34 percent of the popular vote will go on to represent a riding, even if the rest of the votes go to two or more different parties. Plurality systems increase government stability and effectiveness using a manufactured majority ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Causes Of The Russo-Japanese War The Russo Japanese War started January 1904. Japan broke diplomatic relations Russia February 6, following with an attack on Port Arthur February 8. Declaring war February 10, Japanese soldiers occupied Korea, advancing into Manchurian territory with naval forces occupying Liaodong Peninsula. An August siege of Port Arthur followed the attack and fell in January 1905. Gradually, both powers found difficulty to continue fighting. The war ended, however, both powers consulted Theodore Roosevelt s mediation to determine who won; Japan had won which ensued the Portsmouth Treaty to grant Japan back it s sovereignty in China and Manchuria, along with special access to the Liaodong Peninsula. What were the underlying causes of the Russo Japanese War? To what extent did nationalism/imperialism contribute to the war? What did the government do to contribute to the war? Japan s motives for the war stemmed from tension between Russia; the Triple Intervention and the construction of the Trans Siberian railroad. Imperialist and nationalistic motives drove Japan, using authoritative and irrational actions, to change its leader of military power and created a blanket of astigmatism throughout Japan s people, taking away freedom of speech completely. Before the war, events like the Sino Japanese War, Triple Intervention, Anglo Japanese Treaty, and the Trans Siberian railroad contributed to the tension. In 1894, the Sino Japanese War broke between Japan and China, competing for their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Totem Pole Research Paper Totem poles can tell stories, represent ceremonies, and much more. The totem pole is very intricate and a very special and honorary item. My totem pole is based on my family. The animals I have chosen all have a special meaning to me. The reason I am doing a family totem pole is that family always comes first to me and family is one of the greatest blessings you can have. I selected a bear at the bottom of my totem pole. This bear represents my father s side of the family, hence the name, Lonebear . Most bears are quite strong, so that is why it is at the bottom because it has the strength to hold up the rest of the animals. A bear is a symbol of courage and being fearless. • 8. Human And Human Differences In Humans In Humans as well as other species we can see some obvious differences between males and females. Differences such as the development of a penis or vagina, muscle mass, body size, the distribution of fat and the amount of distribution of body hair are all the differences that can be observed in Humans. These differences are a result of a long chain of events that begin during the early phases of embryology. It Involves Complex interaction between the environment and gene expression. Chromosomes Being male or female is determined in stages beginning at fertilization when the sex chromosomes carried by the sperms meet the egg. Females have XX chromosomes and Males have XY chromosomes. Having XX females and XY males provides a genetic framework for developmental events that eventually give us Male or female appearance. The formation of reproductive structures we see in Males and females depend on several factors, this includes gene action and interaction within the embryo. Interactions with other embryos that may be in the uterus. As mentioned this process is not straightforward, having XX and XY does not always mean that individual is either male or female. The outcome depends on the distribution of genes on the X and Y chromosome. All eggs that are produced by females carry the X chromosomes, in males about half of the mature sperms curry the X chromosomes. An egg that is fertilized by a sperm that has the X chromosomes will have XX Zygote and will develop into a female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Interbreeding and hybridization of coyote/red wolf populations has remained a constant threat to the survival of the pure red wolf species. Whilst red wolves and coyotes have similar features, they are not of the same species; however they do share a common ancestor. Red wolves, Gray wolves, Coyotes and Domestic dogs can all interbreed and successfully produce offspring that are fertile as they are part of the same genus (Canis). While social structures and territoriality usually prevents this, small red wolf populations inter breeding with large coyote populations have proved detrimental to the red wolf population and was one of the reasons the red wolf populations was severely decimated. The Peloponnesian War and the Decline of Leadership in Athens Thucydides set out to narrate the events of what he believed would be a great war one requiring great power amassed on both sides and great states to carry out. Greatness, for Thucydides, was measured most fundamentally in capital and military strength, but his history delves into almost every aspect of the war, including, quite prominently, its leaders. In Athensespecially, leadership was vital to the war effort because the city s leaders were chosen by its people and thus, both shaped Athens and reflected its character during their lifetimes. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) had recovered a locked and encrypted iPhone that was in the possession of one of the shooters as part of the evidence. The F.B.I. stated that they were unsure whether or not there was any information pertinent to the investigation on the phone. Apple advised the F.B.I. that they were unable to unlock the phone without the password and suggested that the F.B.I. take the device back to the home of the suspect, plug it in and allow it to back up to the cloud. Health coaches help clients to identify and overcome obstacles that affect their ability to make positive health choices (Kivela et al., 2014). Health coaches are not experts, but rather they work together with their clients to set goals, problem solve and hold the client accountable for their actions (Wong Rieger Rieger, 2013). As stated by Code on page 4 Treating a personas little more than an object, in its cognitive dimension, implies acknowledging no significant differences between such a person and an ordinary, everyday object , what I get from this is that the women who run the nursing home and those who objectify any person are completely ignorant. Before you can judge and objectify, though you really should never objectify people, you need to truly know a person and understand who they are and where they came from; a treatment that Caro s caretakers never gave her or any other guest in their nursing home. Code explains through Kantian s formulation that one must always treat with humanity and that there are different levels of knowing other people. It takes time to truly know some one and if we just give time to understand people we could treat them much better and more appropriately. These two women who run Twin Elms have put themselves in this position and portray themselves as responsible women who can be trusted with old, senile, and overall vulnerable people. When considering expressive coherence in Denzel Washington s performance, one must look for moments when his actions did not resemble the character of Malcolm X, which is that of an ambitious leader. In his performance, there is nothing but a pure sense of drive emanating from Washington s portrayal of Malcom X. That being said, because Washington is faithful to his illustration of Malcolm X, it can also be said that he plays to the beat at all times and is consistent. Another key determinant of the actor s performance is whether if they can show a wide range of emotions. In fact, Washington demonstrates all six basic types of emotions in this film. He displays anger and disgust when the police officer misuses his power to mistreat a member of the African America community. Happiness is observed in Washington when Malcolm journeys to Mecca. One witnesses surprise in Washington when he discovers that his friends have betrayed him. Fear is observed in Washington s face when the mobsters threaten him for cheating on a bet. As a conclusion, Washington s performance is not limited when it comes to displaying emotions. Lastly, one must take into account whether if or not the actor induced any effects in the audience. • 34. The Effects Of Music On Music Throughout History Toby J. Hess Professor Paschke Humanities 220 April 15, 2015 Technology: The Effects on Music throughout History Music and technology aid one another. In a way a person can capture music they love through technology and then the electronic companies flourish due to the sale and popularity of these electronic devices. If a person wants to listen to music they can turn on a stereo or TV, choose a CD or DVD to play, or listen to a songs downloaded in ITunes. All of these devices are proof to show how technology is used to record, play, and change the way music is heard. A look through history will show how far society has come in music alone. The development of technology has changed the way the music industry operates and the way society hears and purchases music today. It started off with humming, then singing. People sang in church choirs, in the living room, or on a stage. Music can be heard by vocals or by the melodic tune of instruments. People paid to go to symphonies and listen to composers perform their masterpieces. Family gathered around the piano, or at a church to listen to music on the holidays. Music was not portable, nor was it recordable. According to the novel, Looking Backward in 1888, the philosophy was that technology was the solution to the ills plaguing modern life and the means to achieve a perfect society (Katz, 51). Meaning that life was boring and technology was the answer to bettering and changing society. In 1877, Thomas Edison invented the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Pan s Labyrinth, the character of Ophelia represents how escapism s disconnect from reality might cause damage to relationships and severe injury or death. Towards the beginning of the story, Ophelia s discovery of the fawn and the revelation of her being, The daughter of the king of the underworld, shows how she uses escapism as a means of creating a fictitious world that helps her avoid the new, horrible life that she endures under her stepfather. However, the adventures that this fantasy sends her on creates a strain in her relationships with her mother and stepfather, which becomes evident when her mother reprimands her saying, You have disappointed me, and your father too. Furthermore, when the faun gives her a mandrake root as a remedy for her mother s illness, it demonstrates how Ophelia uses escapism as an outlet for her fear, and as a means of feeling like she has some control over whether her mother lives or dies. However, when the mother burns the mandrake root shouting, Magic does not exist. Not for you, me or anyone else, and then immediately dies during childbirth, it represents how... Keeping A Diary Doubles Diet Weight Loss Method Activity 1.Correlational vs. Causation The topic Keeping a Diary Doubles Diet Weight Loss seems to offer a solution in relation to weight loss and keeping a diary. Therefore, without reading the article, the topic offers an impression of a causal claim. Causal claims are supported by having independent and dependent variable. The independent variable is the factor that can be manipulated to result to change on another factor (Christensen, Johnson Turner, 2014). In other words, the independent variable represents the cause while the dependent variable represents the effect in an experiment (Rea Parker, 2014). Therefore, the factor that is being manipulated to cause changes in the claim Keeping a Diary Diet Weight Loss is the food diary; thus, the independent variable is food diary. The factor affected by the independent variable, which represent the output is weight loss; thus, the dependent variable is weight loss. 1.1Justifying the Claim Based on the Research The research offers some grounds for supporting the claim, but notable factors affect a direct link between keeping a food diary and double loss of weight. Therefore, though the research supports the claim, the confounding factors, notable in the research, such as compliance to support group meeting, adherence to DASH, and compliance to moderate intensity level of exercises for at least 30 minutes can also have an influence on weight loss. Despite the amount of similar storylines, Spiegelman s creativity with the normal elements of comics has won him high praise. This analysis will focus on Spiegelman s unique twist on icons, layouts, diegesis, abstraction, and encapsulation as displayed by Maus. Icons are pictures that are used to embody a person, place, thing, or idea. McCloud hammers this concept home by drawing random things, such as a cow (McCloud, pg. 26), but reminds the reader that it is technically not a real cow. It is just an image. Overall, this amplification through simplification (McCloud), aids the reader in feeling the emotion of the character, finding a deeper connection to the story as a whole, and can reveal universal truths. The layout of a comic is the relationship between one panel to the rest of the panels in the sequence, the page, and the rest of the book. This establishes the imagery of the boxes weighing down on him in present time, as he appears to be struggling to get through the story and contain his emotions. The vital approach is to understand the structural nature of the borderand the socio cultural nature of the inhabitants that facilitates the illegal act across the border. The lawful bill in place seems not to offer a practical solution to combating the problem.
