Socialization is the process through which individuals learn the behaviors and skills necessary to function within a society. It involves mutual influence between individuals and their social environment. There are two perspectives on socialization - objective, which refers to society acting on the individual, and subjective, through which a culture is transmitted across generations and individuals are adapted to social norms. Socialization is vital for developing individual skills, instilling societal values and aspirations, and teaching social roles. It occurs through various agents including family, education, peer groups, media and occurs via processes such as imitation, suggestion and competition.
