popular social networking tool to encourage interaction among my students. Whether it is a conversation about
a current event or the latest assignment, I find it a great way to get the class talking! What are your thoughts and

My PLN before this course • I had ZERO understanding of creating a social network – not on facebook, never saw a tweet, never heard of web 2.0… • I was known by my friends and family as the person who NEVER knows the latest news because I was so the opposite of “in the know” – not on facebook, twitter, etc. • My PLN was chatting with another teacher – something I often didn’t even do on a daily basis • My circle was so small – home and classroom – and on a good day, the teachers in my hallway/pod
- 3. Twitter • This is a really new concept for me – I had never even read a Tweet before • I still feel a little unsure about participation • I think I’ll feel better after I observe for a little while

Diigo • I love to research, both for personal and professional purposes • Diigo helps me organize my bookmarks, make notes, and access my information from different computers • Not comfortable sharing yet, but am interested in the group “google tools” and am finding helpful sites using others’ bookmarks
- 5. Google Groups - joining Love the Google tools education group – so helpful for someone just learning to integrate this into my classroom. Most essential tip – for form tests make the first question the student’s name.

Google Groups - creating • I plan to also use google groups once school begins to give the same permissions to a group of people for some of my google docs • For example: I created a google group for my grade level partners/PLC team to use for collaboration • For example: I think it would be useful to make a classroom parent group for sharing information
- 7. Professional Social Network – Classroom 2.0 • Joined Classroom 2.0 as my first professional social network • Posted an introduction, updated my profile, and tweeted my membership to get started

My PLN after this course: A much larger circle • Good old email – home and school • Twitter • Classroom 2.0 professional social networking site • Diigo • Google Reader • Google Groups • My circle even includes teachers from other countries! That’s quite a change from home, class, and maybe hallway…

Reflection • The three stage explanation helped me to understand where I am in the process of creating my PLN • Having had so little experience all of these platforms were a lot to take in – I definitely need some time to just get used to all the platforms • Now I have so many options as I begin to move towards collaboration and contribution in my PLN
