Critical Analysis Of Wallace Stevens s The Inhabitants
The daily ritual of leaving work in the city to arrive home in the suburbs has been masterfully depicted
in the poem, The Inhabitants. By taking the New Critical analysis approach in using scientific theory,
we can unpack its meaning through a defined system self contained within the text. In our analysis of
The Inhabitants we take a structuralism approach. Structuralism as defined by Mary Klages, in her
book Literary Theory: A Guide for the Perplexed, is a way of thinking that works to find the
fundamental basis units or elements of which anything is made. (p 31). The number 5 is a very
powerful prime number. Taking a closer look at the poem, we see the power of the 5 paradigm and
how it plays a crucial role in unlocking the poem s very meaning. Similarly, in our class exercise we
utilized the work of Wallace Stevens, A Postcard From the Volcano , and reduced the story to its bare
bones. Getting to the basics of Guest s piece, we can simply start with its structural rhythm of five
stanzas. Each stanza is a self contained unit that describes the transition from the city to the suburbs.
In the first stanza the descriptive is of the onset of departing office workers pilgrimage, Like people in
an opera on the street, gracefully orchestrate an orderly descent from their office building to the bus
stop. Not the mad dash out the door that school children make as their final school bell rings,
nonetheless just as anxious. Listen to the last line of the first stanza,

Narcissism In Patrick Bateman s American Psycho
American Psycho Patrick Bateman is a 26 year old investment banker, living in the 80 s New York.
On the surface he s rich, attractive and charming. But behind his successful façade rests a soulless
serial killer. When he s not committing murders or having sex, he s worrying about how the world
perceives him. But is Patrick really a killer? He admits to his crimes to his friends, but everyone thinks
he s joking or ignore him completely, and to Patrick s dismay the bodies seem to be disappearing
without a trace. Bateman believes that he is a psychopath, and describes himself as one, but I don t
think that s true. His distorted sense of self, mood swings, feelings of emptiness and hallucinations
matches both Borderline Personality Disorder and Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Narcissism is one
of Patrick s defining traits, if someone s better than him, or has something of higher value, he turns
into a lunatic. One example of this is when Patrick gets jealous of his co worker s business card, and
he attempts to kill him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has a hard time controlling his rage, and doesn t care who he hurts. The crimes get more and more
orbid as the book goes on. Sometimes he records as he tortures women, and in one chapter he shows
one of the movies to a woman before murdering her. One of his most grotesque acts consists of Patrick
shoving a starved rat into a womans vagina, and then removed all exits. He then watched as the rat
attempted to eat its way out, while the girl was struggling and screaming in

Goal Directed Behavior
There are two main components involved in goal directed behavior, which is defined as the behavior
directed towards accomplishing a specific goal. The first is to select a proper course of action and the
second is to learn to adjust the behavior depending on the surrounding conditions. Studies have shown
that the basal ganglia is the brain region largely responsible for the selection and initiation of these
willed movements. That is to say, the main function of the basal ganglia is in controlling voluntary
movements. Within the basal ganglia of the brain, there is an important input structure called the
dorsal striatum, which plays a vital role in the reward system of the brain. Moreover, the dorsal
striatum is made up of 2 opponent pathways ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, when the researchers activated the population of neurons in the direct pathway (dMSNs),
it caused the mice to accelerate and push the joystick at a faster rate on future movements. In contrast,
when the researchers activated the population of neurons in the indirect pathway (iMSNs), it caused
the mice to decelerate and push the joystick at a slower rate on future movements. These results were
consistent with the wide held belief that separate population of neurons in the basal ganglia promote
and suppress movement. However, contrary to popular belief, Yttril and Dudman found that this is not
always the case as they discovered that stimulation of dMSNs of the direct pathway can also slow
movement, while stimulation of iMSNs of the indirect pathway can also speed movement.
Interestingly, this result only seemed to occur in situations where the researchers activated a
population of neurons at a moment the mouse was making a slow movement of the joystick. This was
different from the first case, in which researchers activated a population of neurons at a moment the
mouse was making a fast movement of the joystick. Additionally, the researchers discovered that
stimulation of either population of neurons did not have any impact on the rate of movement initiation
or on the rate of water licking by the mice, thus indicating that movement initiation and motivation are
not affected by activation of the neurons. Lastly, Yttril and Dudman attempted to stimulate the loss of
the chemical dopamine in mice in order to help determine the effect of dopamine on the movement
speed of the mice pushing the joystick. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, a chemical messanger
released by neurons in the brain, that plays a vital role in reward motivated

To Kill A Mockingbird Reflection
Throughout their lives, individuals learn many valuable lessons that help them to grow and mature as
human beings. This also means being cooperative with people. The prominent novel, To Kill a
Mockingbird , by Harper Lee portrays a story written from a girl named Scout. Scout is in her
childhood and faces many hardships, including the trial of Tom Robinson and her dad being the
defendant. One prominent theme that Lee includes is how individuals must see different perspectives
putting an end to bigotry and the tension between others.
Atticus Finch is a great example of an individual who instructs his children, Jem and Scout, precious
life lessons about accepting all people. In chapter eleven Atticus tries to explain to Jem, why different
people have a different view on things by saying, She had her own views about things, a lot different
from mine, maybe... son, I told you that if you hadn t lost your head I d have made you go read to
her... she was the bravest person I knew (Lee 128). This conveys that Atticus wanted Jem to
understand and accept her rather than just judging her. Sometimes getting to know people isn t so bad
because you never really understand them until you enlighten a person. Not only does Atticus takes his
time to understand Mrs. Dubose, but he also takes his time out to defend Tom Robinson. Scout is
troubled from the rumors of her dad being the defendant of Tom Robinson. Lee explains why Atticus
defends Tom Robinson despite of the ridicule when she writes ... the main one is, is I didn t I couldn t
hold up my head in town, I couldn t represent this country in the legislature, I couldn t even tell you or
Jem not to do something again (Lee 86). Atticus accepted the case because he suggests that his morals
for children and others are far greater than his reputation. Although the people in Maycomb is racist,
Atticus is there for Tom Robinson and being a role model for his children to accept people for who
they are.
Atticus attempts to teach his kids about seeing things in other people s point of view to eliminate
prejudice because he knows that the town is full of bigotry and racism. Atticus teaches Scout a life
lesson, which he applies to real life situations, in the hopes of shaping her

Engineering Report the Bicycle
Engineering Report Recumbent Bicycle Reynolds 853 The Reynolds 853 is a steel alloy created by
Reynolds Cycle Technology, a manufacturing company based in Birmingham, England. It is
composed of several elements solely including iron, carbon, chrome and molybdenum but also
includes silicon, copper and manganese. The Steel s physical properties include a stiffness level
similar to mild steel. With the addition of chrome and molybdenum the steel can be strong enough to
butt or be thinned down in the middle, thus making the material lighter. It has an excellent strength to
weight ratio obtained from heat treatment used in its formation. The heat treatment used for this steel
does not use quenching rather uses air cooling or air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is half as stiff as most steels though is half as dense making it 20% lighter than steel. For stiff
titanium frames it is required to have a larger diameter, than comparable steels, though not as large as
aluminum. The frame is also very corrosive resistant. With the addition of silicon the alloy can obtain
significant grain refinement and it can be said that titanium alloys have a perfect balance of properties
for frame building. Welding must be done carefully to avoid contamination and machining must be
done precisely. Titanium is very reactive to atmospheric gases and can result in degradation in the
material. Titanium is weldable in annealing conditions but provide limited weld ductility and heat
affected zone ductility. It can also be significantly strengthened by cold working. Due to titanium
being rather expensive it is rarely used for cycles. It is expensive not only because of the material
costs, but also because of the care and time that must be put into the welding process. 7005 Aluminum
Like the Reynolds X100, 7005 Aluminum is an aluminum alloy but consisting of Zinc and
Magnesium. Due to its cost and inconvenience of heat treating, 7005 aluminum has gained
considerable popularity with smaller companies. 7005 Aluminum has similar properties to the
Reynolds X100. It is seen as the second most common material and is most likely to overtake steel as
most popular material used for frame design. It is 12% stiffer and 20% lighter than steel

Similarities Between To Kill A Mockingbird And Hamlet
Structuralism states that both Hamlet and Bob Ewell condemn themselves, as they are both
responsible for the deaths of innocent people (Polonius and Tom Robinson respectively.) Although
Hamlet is the protagonist in the play, contrasting with Bob Ewell being the villain in To Kill a
Mockingbird. The two texts show that, good or evil, the murder of an innocent person will create
chaos in a community and until it is resolved by the subsequent death of the murderer, the chaos will
continue. For instance in Hamlet, when Hamlet goes to speak with his mother after the play, he
believes Claudius is spying on them from behind a curtain. He stabs at the intruder without verifying
their identity and finds out it is not the King, but Polonius his right hand man.
HAMLET
What s this, a rat? I ll bet a buck he s a dead rat now.
(stabs his sword through the arras and kills POLONIUS)
POLONIUS
(from behind the arras) Oh, I am slain.
GERTRUDE
O me, what hast thou done?
HAMLET
Nay, I know not. Is it the king?
GERTRUDE
Oh, what a rash and bloody deed is this!
HAMLET
A bloody deed? Almost as bad, good mother,
As kill a king and marry with his brother.
Hamlet believes he is justified in killing Polonius although this is not true and dresses Ophelia mad
when she hears of her father s death. Although Hamlet s intention was to kill Claudius he condemns
himself in killing an innocent person. As a matter of fact, he is so driven to kill Claudius he does not
even know who he has killed. However, if the intruder had been Claudius, rather than Polonius,
Hamlet s killing would have been justified as vengeance for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

What I Learned From My Writing
Since the beginning of English 1100, I have created trends in my writing. My approach to writing,
point of view, and writing styles are similar in all of my papers. I have taken the skills I learned from
my previous experiences of writing and improved them in this class. My liberal ideas that have been
embedded in my writing since high school are shown and reflected in multiple projects that I ve
completed. Many of my grammatical errors began to stick out and I have since learned how to correct
them. English 1100 has helped me to correct grammatical errors that I had never noticed before and
has ultimately allowed me to discover why I write a particular way. I have improved my writing habits
through this class and have been able to enhance my skills to the best of my ability.
A common trend among my papers has been my sentence structure. For the most part, my sentences
would be short and very straight forward. A common mistake that I see among many of my peers is
writing consciously, a problem I do not have. I like that I can get right to the point which allowed me
to be more direct in stating my facts and less worried about filling my paper with fluff. By the end of
the semester, I learned to make my sentences more balanced which would allow me to have more flow
throughout my paper. As the semester went on I started to pay closer attention to the length and the
content of each sentence and how each correlated with each other. I took a skill I had coming into the
class and

light bulb were invented. If Menlo park estate development did not fail, then we could have been
without these inventions and technologies for many years after his time. Society would most likely
have been more delayed in our technology department throughout the years. What if Cape May never

The Most Beautiful Pieces Of Music
How is it possible to create some of the most beautiful pieces of music the world has ever heard and
the creator not be able to hear it himself? The world of music has seen many memorable composers
such as Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Vivaldi, but none has as amazing a story as Ludwig Van
Beethoven. His life played out like one of his beautiful symphonies, with unimaginable highs, lows,
victories, and defeats, (Viegas 5). Ludwig Van Beethoven was an 18th century classical composer
famous for his nine symphonies, and is also recognized as one of the cornerstones of Western
civilization through the legacy of his music.
Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany. He was the son of Johann, a tenor of the court of
the Elector of Cologne, who also taught violin and piano lessons, and the grandson of the man he was
named after, who was the music director at the court of the Elector of Cologne. His mother, Maria,
was the daughter of a cook and was never truly accepted by Johann s father as his wife because of her
social status. It is believed that Johann s marriage to her defied his father. There is no record of his
date of birth, but there is a record of the day he was baptised December 17, 1770. In Roman Catholic
tradition, a child is baptised the day after their birth, so it is commonly believed that Beethoven s date
of birth is December 16, 1770. He was the oldest of two other siblings two other boys, Kasper Anton
Karl, and Nikolaus Johann. An emotionally and socially

Persuasive Essay On Why Volunteers Are Important In Youth...
Volunteers are one of the most important things in youth sports. Because without volunteers there can
t be any games played or practices, and the kids won t get any better. Youth sports are important to the
kids because it helps kids be able to work as a team better and work together with other kids, it helps
them get better at the sport they re playing, and it teaches them discipline and dedication. And, the
better the kids get from playing in youth sport organizations, the higher chance they will have to
maybe play in High School, College, and maybe even the pros. Making youth sports available early on
can set people up to possibly play that sport for the rest of their life. Volunteers do a lot just so the kids
can have a good time and learn more skills about a sport. Most pf the people that are involved with a
sports organization do it for free and for the kids, if there wasn t volunteers, there s no sports. For
example, they organize schedules for the games/practices, they run the scoreboard/score book, they
run the snack bar, make food to sell at the snack bar, find places for the kids to practice and play in,
they order uniforms, and they coordinate fundraising. They make youth sports possible for the kids to

Essay on Military Wear and Appearance
In this essay I will describe the many requirements and expectations set forth in the army s AR670 1. I
will describe the importance of obedience to it and cite many of it s detailed descriptions. I am writing
this essay because I failed to meet the standards asked of me me by both these regulations, and my
leadership. I accept the responsibility of my actions and will not let my failure recur, nor will I let my
fellow soldiers repeat my mistake. Since my failure was in regards to grooming or personal additions
to uniform, I thought it would be pertinent to cover these subjects most thoroughly, If any additional

Also, articles should not protrude from pockets or have a bulky appearance. The regulation provides
guidance for all men and women in the army to keep this high standard of appearance. Army
regulation does not just stop with the uniform, it also includes hair, nails, cosmetics, jewelry, religious
articles, eyewear, tattoos, and ID tags.
Although all of AR670 1 is important to follow, I will start with the army grooming standards, due to
my failure to follow these set standards. When considering a change in hairstyle, as I did, it would be
wise for anyone to review AR670 1 to prevent assignments such as this. On top of following these
guidelines, consultation with ones leadership would be a smart measure. A general grooming standard
is important to maintain certain uniformity within the military. Although many hairstyles are
acceptable, they must be neat and conservative. Since it is impossible to address every acceptable
hairstyle or whether it is considered conservative or not, it is the responsibility of leaders at all levels
to demonstrate proper judgment on the enforcement of the standards. For men, it must have a tapered
appearance, not fall over the ears, eyebrows, or touch the back of the collar, except for the closely cut
hair on the back of the neck. Men are not authorized to have dreadlocks or cornrows. Hair that is
clipped closely or shaved to the scalp is permitted. Sideburns will be neatly trimmed and not flared

Essentially, cystic fibrosis causes a lot of sticky mucus buildup in many organs, including the
pancreas, lungs, and other organs. One interesting fact about Cystic Fibrosis has to do with its
epidemiology, interestingly enough, the distribution and prevalence of cystic fibrosis does depend on
race; white people have a higher chance of being born with Cystic fibrosis, this is believed to be
because the emergence of cystic fibrosis began in the stone age in Europe (Daniel, Emanuela, Genel
Lucia, 2015). Since cystic fibrosis is a recessive autosomal disease, a person affected inherits two
mutated genes from each parent as opposed to a single gene. Cystic Fibrosis is caused specifically in
the CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator) gene , within this gene the most
common mutation is the deletion of phenylalanine at codon 508, this is the most common mutation
within the 1600 known possible mutations for cystic fibrosis (Alton, Bush, Davies, 2007). The ideal
path to diagnose cystic fibrosis is through measuring sweat electrolyte levels, doctors measure the
sweat levels and then check to see if the levels are abnormally high, as with Cystic fibrosis patients
there is a high concentration of chloride and sodium (Alton, Bush, Davies, 2007). After diagnosis, the

Argumentative Essay On Technology And Technology
Whether you are a geek, buying the latest smartphone, game console, and latest Apple products or you
are just the minimalist who only has the necessary smart devices like your phone and maybe a laptop,
it is undeniable that technology is making its way into every nook and cranny of modern society.
Owning your own car was treated as a way to be free back in the eighties, but now owning a car is
starting to become a thing of the past as companies such as UBER and Lyft are replacing taxies but
making a new form of public transportation constantly available almost everywhere around the world.
Even though technology has basically taken over every aspect of our lives does not mean that every
person has embraced it with open arms. These days we still have an ongoing debate about whether
smart devices and the internet are helping or hurting society as a whole or not. Enthusiasts on this
topic tend to look at a more optimistic view on this new technological age expressing how they think
that robots and artificial intelligence will change our world for the better both Kevin Kelly s Better
than Human , Clive Thompson s Smarter than You Think , as well as Brooke Gladstone and Josh
Neufeld s The Influencing Machines explore. On the other hand, skeptics tend to write about how
these new technologies are tainting our own capabilities and making us more dependent rather than
relying on our own skills, says Nicholas Carr in his article Is Google Making Us Stupid? . Although
technology has changed many aspects of our lives we should still pay attention to how it has
benefitted many aspects of our daily lives. One of the main concerns that people have in accordance to
new technological advances is how it affects our brains and how we think. Although I tend to be an
enthusiast when it comes to new cutting edge hardware or software I still agree with Carr on the fact
that technology may not be this great learning tool with no downsides that everyone hypes it up to be.
In fact, Carr had one thing that really struck me when he talked about how the style of reading
promoted by the Net, a style that puts efficiency and immediacy above all else, may be weakening our

Essay on Magnificent Minds of the Renaissance
Magnificent Minds of the Renaissance
The renaissance era of the 1500 s was a time of artistic, philosophic, and scientific wonder and
inspiration. Several new discoveries were made in the areas of science, and assumptions on the world
and universe around them were expressed by philosophers. Many individuals had been gifted with
artistic creativity and skill. The astonishing achievements of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and
Raphael are considered momentous to the Renaissance period. In this paper, I will talk about the
endeavors and achievements of these three amazing Renaissance men.

Leonardo created six pieces during his stay in Milan. The most famous of all his paintings, The Last
Supper, depicts Jesus with his 12 Apostles during Passover the moment that he reveals that one of
them will betray him (Encyclopedia Britannica n.pag.). Unfortunately, by the beginning of the 16th
century, the painting began to show deterioration due to the failed technique that Leonardo had
developed called tempra. Several attempts were made over the centuries to restore the piece but were
unsuccessful until modern restoration techniques were applied after World War II. Restoration of this
piece was completed in 1999 but very little of the original painting remains (Encyclopedia Britannica
n.pag.).
Leonardo based his scientific theories on careful observation and precise documentation. Sadly, is
treatises (writings) on several scientific subjects were never completed. The notebooks in which he
kept his theories logged, were written in a mirror script. This made it difficult for his work to be
deciphered during his lifetime. His scientific findings would have revolutionized science of the 16th
century had his work been published (Encyclopedia Britannica n.pag.). Leonardo anticipated
discoveries of the modern times.
Leonardo spent his last years at the Château de Cloux, near Amboise, where he died and was buried in

Florence and the David Statues
The city of Florence has gone through many invaders, illnesses and many other deaths not related to
the battlefield. They had survived it all they believed that they had God on their side and have always
come out on top, much like the biblical story of David in battle against Goliath. This influenced
Florence to take on David as their symbol and used it to portray the success of Florence. Many artists
have created sculptures portraying works of David. It has been depicting it in so many different
manners, that there is at least one surviving example from each major art periods. Although there are
many we will only be focusing on two works of David. First is Donatello s classically inspired
youthful boy depiction of David, and the second is Bernini s heroic warrior. The Medici family was
the most powerful political family of Florence. They saw themselves as being the reason for Florence
s supremacy and wanted to used Florence s symbol of David as their own. The Medici were aware of
Donatello s earlier sculpture of David in Florence s town hall and commissioned Donatello to create
them their own sculpture of David. Donatello s bronze sculpture of David possesses both the relaxed
contrapposto and the nude beauty of the Classical period and the style of the Greeks. He was the first
Renaissance sculptor to portray nude male figure. In the Middle Ages, the clergy regarded nude
statues as both indecent and idolatrous, and nudity in general appeared only rarely in art

Big Five Personality Traits
One of the aspects of the personality theory is the Big Five Personality traits. Those traits are:
extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness. Each of these traits have
been studied by many experts and defined based on the behaviors and attitudes that are attributed to
most people. There are no absolutes meaning that just because most people who display a certain
characteristic are effective leaders, does not mean that everybody who has that trait is an effective
leader (Dziak, 2017). This paper will break down each of the Big Five traits and talk about their role
in leadership. Agreeableness is defined as being kind and caring. Agreeable people tend to display
sympathy and affection in various situations and usually find productive ways to deal with problems.
Agreeable people also are more generous and forgiving (Dziak, 2017). As a leader, there will be times
when the organization will face shortcomings or there are internal problems ... Show more content on

Extraverted people are friendly, talk more in social situations, and are fueled by being around other
people (Dziak, 2017). When someone is in charge of something, they should also be passionate about
it. If the leader does not care why should anybody else? Most leaders are energetic and sociable. It is
an important trait to get people excited about your product. Most organization and companies require
people to spend their time or money on their product. Even something like Facebook, which is free,
requires people to spend time on its platform. Being assertive does not mean being in your face or
overbearing, which often turns people off, but someone can be assertive in a non offensive way by
being passionate. People need other people in some form or fashion to be successful, so it is important
to treat people respectfully so that they would want to do business with you or buy your

hiding from the world the whole day, and let it all out. Very often, late night hours are considered as
hours when the most honest confessions are made. So, some truths can only be revealed when it is
dark, rather than in the bright daylight. 4. I like the night. Without the night, we would never see the
stars ~Stephenie Meyer The line quoted by the author known for her vampire romance series called
Twilight depicts her love towards the nights as nights are the time when there are stars and the moon,
symbols of peace and beauty. A night out with the stars above accompanied by the pale moonlight is
enough to get rid of all the melancholy and commotion of the day. Metaphorically too, one who has
witnessed the darkness and silence of the night beneath the moon and the stars and never paid
attention to how beautiful it is, he or she would be missing out on one of the most marvelous creations
of God. 5. Night is the other half of life, and the better half ~Johann Wolfgang von

In the last few years, the industrial production in India has redeveloped; and especially in the last few
months; as the industrial output expanded to 2.7% compared to that in 2016.
Add to that the increase in the production of capital goods by 10.7%, with the growth in basic goods
output yet at a slower pace.
Annually, the average growth in industrial production recorded an increase by 0.7% in less than a year
(five months).
We can see that India has one of the fastest growing major economies. It is also known as a modern
industrialized country.
Future speaking, Focus Economics Panelists expect a 4.9% increase in industrial output for the
upcoming years.[]
As we can see in table below, India tends to rely on its own production ((decrease in the imports to the
country); where its exports are increasing (( enhanced production).

Respect in the Military Essay
Respect in the Military It has been said that military standards are higher than the country demands of
its president. And that is true. President Clinton lied under oath. Perhaps that is not perjury, but an
army officer could not do that. Nor could army personnel have extramarital affairs. Kelly Flynn found
that out when she lost her position in the Air Force and years of pilot training went down the drain.
But for the Commander in Chief, it is another story. While it is true that the Commander in Chief is
able to get away with misbehavior, military personnel have been warned not to criticize him. In fact,
the various branches have been reminding troops that they can be prosecuted for publicly condemning

Thus, just because Clinton admitted to doing the misdeeds, he cannot be criticized by military
members. In other words, one cannot accurately talk about President Clinton without getting into
serious trouble. The military may seem unnecessarily restrictive or antiquated but there is a reason for
the mandate. Officers must respect their superiors. It is simple as that. The reasoning behind that is
that routines and orders must be obeyed. After all, soldiers are being trained and must be ready to go
into combat at any time. The reason that the personnel cannot criticize their leader should be obvious.
If a war or conflict were to break out, it would significantly affect performance as well as the world s
perception about the United States. Thus, no matter how one feels, there must be respect given to
every single officer all the way up the line to the commander in chief. The fact that Clinton himself
has not been in compliance is immaterial. While he is the Commander in Chief he is still considered to
be a civilian. While it is important to give the president respect, respect to Military Superior
Commanding Officers and Non Commission Officers is perhaps even more pertinent. If theoretically,
when one is in the trenches with superiors, they must be ready to accept orders willingly. The only
way to accomplish this is with respect and military courtesy. Thus, the fundamental purpose of having
and enforcing a chain of command with

The Association Between Low Hdl Blood Levels And Colonic...
Dyslipidemia is a pathological alteration of lipid and lipoprotein concentrations in the blood. It is one
of the main elements of metabolic syndrome. Epidemiological studies have shown that persons with
the metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). One of the possible
mechanisms is that lipids and lipoproteins have been found to be associated with neoplastic processes
as well as inflammation, insulin resistance and oxidative stress. On the other side, some of the factors
that influence lipid and lipoprotein concentration unfavorably (ie. smoking, obesity, a high fat and low
fiber diet consumption) can contribute to the development of colon cancer as well. The purpose of this
study is to investigate the association between low HDL blood levels and colonic cancer.
Methods:
A retrospective case control study was conducted. A chart review was performed on the charts of 183
patients who were diagnosed with colonic adenoma or carcinoma after having
colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy done in our hospital from 1/1/09 till 12/31/10. Information regarding
demographics, HDL level, endoscopy and biopsy findings, site of the lesion and the period between
endoscopy and the closest HDL measurement we have in our records.
Results:
Our study population included 183 patients (66 males and 116 females). 86 patients had adenomas
while 96 patients were diagnosed with CRC. The mean age was 61.1+/ 11 years and 80 +/ 12.2 years

Major Environmental Problems Plaguing Louisiana
Environment, a term used to describe the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or
plant lives or operates. Major environmental problems plaguing Louisiana include flooding, but also
pollution and wetland loss. Presently, Louisiana and the city of Baton Rouge are dealing with
dangerous flood levels. According to (Yan et al., 2016), a Red Cross member stated that the
catastrophic flooding in Louisiana is the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since
Hurricane Sandy two years ago (para. 1). Louisiana anticipates it will cost $30 million in relief funds
to repair flood damages (Yan et al., 2016). More than 7 trillion gallons of water fell in Louisiana and
Mississippi over the course of eight days (Sergent et al., 2016). There have been at least 13 deaths
recorded and over 40,000 homes have been destroyed. Rainfall numbers in double digits from a storm
can bring havoc to an area, thus triggering rivers to ascend swiftly, and exceed flood levels (Dolce,

Although Louisiana has recently experienced a great loss in natural habitats, homes, and wetlands,
rehabilitation is still possible. The Baton Rouge area has pushed through the initial three stages:
devastation, rescue and shock and awe. Now they are working their way through the next five:
community spirit, restlessness, the blame game, politics and embracing big government. The last four

Underdog Wears Prada Sexism
The Underdog Wears Prada : An Analysis on Miranda Priestly and Villainy
In the beginning of the movie The Devil Wears Prada, Andy Sachs says She s [Miranda Priestly] not
happy unless everyone around her is panicked, nauseous or suicidal. This Quote paints a rather cruel,
uncaring, and even villainous character that Miranda Priestly embodies throughout the movie, but
despite this negative opinion, we still feel a draw to her, an undeniable intrigue due to the confidence
and strength she retains in her daily life. Chuck Klosterman, author of the essay Villains Who are Not
Villains, argues that a character is understood through their own realm, that we see villains
contextualized to their situation (48). Miranda Priestly is not seen as a villain ... Show more content on

She proves herself to be a successful and talented leader of Runway, but her employers still try to
replace her, excusing themselves of their sexism by claiming that she is getting old and less up to date
with the latest styles. It is apparent that she is actually being replaced because of the common sexist
misconception that women get weaker and less able to do their job when they grow older, unlike a
man who gets considered stronger and wiser. Miranda in response to this misconception has to hide
behind a façade, a persona of power and confidence in order to compensate for the misconceptions
held against her and in order to keep her career and the respect of her position. Though, in actuality it
is shown that Miranda is not as strong as she may seem because towards the end of the movie,
Miranda, unmade up and dressed down in a robe, reveals that she is getting a divorce. She exposes the
toll her job places on her life and gives a glimpse to the stress and sacrifice she has made in her own
personal life by creating a persona in order to combat the fallacy of sexism. This persona is the root
cause of her villainous traits; it is through this persona that she demands so much of her employees
and through this ambition and self preservation that she is willing to betray people like Nigel. If she

villainous ways and not have to fight and hurt others to keep her

The United States Of American And The Kuwaiti Life
The United States of American and the Kuwaiti life
The United States of America is far most known as the best place for a person to live in and enjoy a
peaceful life with no problems, at least most people believe that is true because they don t have
problems in their life but others do. Kuwait on the other hand, which is located in the Middle East
beside Iraq and Saudi Arabia, is also a very peaceful life where enjoy it because they do not have
anything that they have to worry about and the only bad weather they get is rain and sand storms
which cannot kill anyone. These two countries are a perfect place to live your life. They are very
similar at times and very different at others.
The USA definitely dresses and speaks way different than Kuwait do or ever will. The people in the
USA dress in a t shirt and jeans most of the time or casual, in Kuwait people wear clothing known as a
disdahsha which is white long sleeved clothing that goes all the way down to their knees and women
wear a Hijab worn around their head to cover their hair from the men so that the men does not fall in
love with their beauty and the Abaya which is a long rob like dress. They also speak a different
language than the USA. Kuwait s first language is Arabic which is known as the hardest language to
learn because it is so confusing and hard to pronounce, their second language is English. As everyone
knows, the USA s first language is English. That is what the schools are there for in both countries, to

The Performance Of The Symphony
I have never had the chance to sit and watch a symphony before. I have heard them in plays and other
performances, but they have never been the main production in something I have seen. It was very
interesting to see the structure behind the sound. The amount of people and different instruments all
together making a cohesive piece of music was absolutely incredible. There appeared to be well over
50 musicians working together to produce different sounds that fit together so tenaciously. Among the
instruments involved in the orchestra, I noticed cellos, flutes, clarinets, cymbals, tambourines,
trumpets, violins, trombones, tubas, french horns, and even a few instruments that I could not
recognize. The diversity in the instruments created a strong yet effortless feeling in the listener. The
music flowed so well that it seemed simple and easy, yet when I looked into the orchestra and saw
how many components go into the composition, it is clear that it is quite intricate. The symphony was
set in a beautiful concert venue, the Boston Symphony Hall. The high ceilings were dripping with
elaborate chandeliers, creating beautiful lighting for the on stage performers. The chairs of the
instrumentalists were turned in a way so that all the performers could be viewed by the audience, and
the conductors back was turned so he could face his orchestra. The walls on both sides were lined with
two levels of seats, and four rows of seats were organized in front of the stage. Four windows

The magnitude of a star is simply how bright the star is. The brightest stars were of first magnitude,
however, the dullest were of sixth magnitude. The simple scale of magnitude was made popular by
Ptolemy, but is thought to have started with Hipparchus. The scale is sometimes considered confusing
since the brighter the star is, the smaller the magnitude it has.
In 1856, Norman Robert Pogson determined the system of magnitude by specifying a first magnitude
star as a star that is 100 times as bright as a sixth magnitude star, in that coming up with the
logarithmic scale that we use today. It is important to note that the scale is logarithmic: the relative
brightness of two objects is determined by the difference of their magnitudes (Wiki). The magnitude
scale we use today is logarithmic, which means that for each unit stars go up the scale, they get
dimmer by a factor of 2.512. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the brightest stars are considered to be of first magnitude, this equation calculates the
magnitude. To calculate the absolute magnitude when the apparent magnitude and distance are known
the formula is M=m 5log(d/10), M being the absolute magnitude, m being the apparent magnitude,
and d being the distance.
Absolute magnitude is how bright a star appears from 10 pc, or 33 light years, expressed as M . (Star
Magnitude). Apparent magnitude m of a star is a number that tells how bright that star appears at its
great distance from Earth (Apparent and absolute). The apparent brightness of a star depends of two
components: the natural brightness of the star and the distance. Apparent magnitude is a bad index of
how bright a star actually is. The apparent magnitude of a star has an equal apparent

Process I
Today I will be talking about the research I did on quick change methodology. This is a very
fascinating and important topic for the machining process in all plants across the world. The topics
that will be covered in this paper are as follows defining quick change methodology and tooling for
machining with an overview history and recent advancements, SMED overview history and recent
advancements, then a compare and contrast of quick change methodology and SMED, and to wrap up
the paper I will illustrate how I can use this information to improve a manufacturing process I am
familiar with. These were great research topics and I learned a ton of great valuable information that
would be very useful in future endeavors.
First I will talk about defining quick change methodology and tooling for machining with an overview
history and recent advancements. It is a modular system that allows tools to be changed rapidly on a
machine during the initial part setup and the tool change after a tool is worn out. The system radically
decreases machine downtime for tool change for the duration of setup changes. It is also for changing
worn out inserts during machining. Normally a tool is fastened by putting it into a slot in the turret and
tightening screws to hold it resolutely. With doing this older process of fastening the tool, extreme
care must be taken to seat the holder correctly against existing

The Free Trade Agreement
The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as well as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
were failures. The North American Free Trade Agreement was one of the most controversial
documents of the 20th century, beginning January 1st 1988.1 The reason it was so controversial was
because it was loved in some ways yet hated in others. One of the reasons why the FTA and NAFTA
were failures is due to the fact that Prime Minister Brian Mulroney lost a lot of votes caused by the
amount of voters that disapproved of the FTA and NAFTA. Another reason the FTA and NAFTA were
failures is because the agreement did not improve the amount of full time jobs in Canada, which was
one of the reasons that the FTA and NAFTA was created in the first place. The final reason the deal
failed was because the deal was supposed to improve productivity around Canada but really did
nothing. The FTA and NAFTA were failures because it only helped a small handful of Canadians and
hindered many more.
The first main reason why the FTA and NAFTA were failures was because of the popularity Prime
Minister Brian Mulroney lost. Mulroney was elected into government in 1984 with the biggest
election win in Canadian history. When he was re elected in 1988, it gave Mulroney the go ahead with
the FTA which was implemented at midnight on January 1st 1989. Before Mulroney brought the FTA
to the table he was thought of as the best Prime Minister Canada had ever elected. After the FTA and
NAFTA, Mulroney was said to be

people have their own distinct culture as well. Nevertheless, this odd and seemingly harmless trend is
actually dangerous because it allows people to deny white privilege. White people are invisible in our

From word to mouth, mouth to mouth, and mouth to ear. Gossip spreads easily Messages can be easily
misconstrued from person to person; for better or for worse. In William Shakespeare s comedy, Much
Ado About Nothing, the theme focusses on the effects of eavesdropping and gossip and their effect on
the characters. One of the first accounts of this is at the masquerade between Claudio and Borachio.
Another instance of noting is the Benedick and Beatrice subplot. Lastly, it happens again when the
Watch overhears Borachio telling Conrad about his deeds. Eavesdropping, along with gossiping, is a
crucial theme that develops throughout the play.
The theme is introduced lightly, at first it seems as if it is simple miscommunication, but it is later
revealed to be intentional and meant to ruin a budding romance. For instance, Borachio overheard Don

cowardly. Many of the gods used sneaky ways to snatch woman, however, Ares was one of the gods
who did not act like that. One of his most famous affairs is with the goddess of love, Aphrodite. He,

In one account, it says that he had a giant stature, a loud voice, and surpassed the other gods in speed
(Encyclopedia). In another account he is depicted as either a mature, bearded warrior dressed in battle
arms, or a nude beardless youth with helm and spear (Theoi). In battle, Ares always carries his spear
and wears his helmet and armor.
To the Trojans, Ares himself is an imperative symbol of war as his symbols include the spear and
helmet. In the Trojan War, Ares supported and favored the Trojans (Encyclopedia). His symbols, the
spear and the helmet, are the weapons and armor he uses in war and favors. Some of his other symbols
include the dog, chariot, boar, vulture and flaming torch. Ares chariot is very vital to him. In battle, he

Ares had many myths revolving around him, each from different origins. One famous myth of Ares

Motherhood
The story To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee takes place in a fictional town of Maycomb,
Alabama, this is based on Lee s hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. In the story Calpurnia is the
maid for the Finch family, because in the 1930 s it was still common for negroes to work as house
servants for low pay and little respect. Calpurnia is the only present female figure in the Finch
household, which in a sense makes her the mother to Scout and Jem. Atticus and Calpurnia are both
parents to the children, but Calpurnia is more of a stickler especially since she has already had
children of her own. Cal embraces her second motherhood to do the best possible job at hoping she
can make a difference in their lives which was not present with her biological children. In the story
Scout and Calpurnia share many parallels with a mother and daughter. For instance, She was always
ordering me out of the kitchen, asking me why I couldn t behave as well as Jem when she knew he
was older, and calling me home when I wasn t ready to come (Lee 6). This shares many similarities
with the epic battles that mothers and children face through raising their children and growing up,
given my parents are sticklers I have been in my fair share of wars. Growing up in my house and
being at my friends behavior, getting out of the kitchen, and getting called inside was, and still is a

Gay Porn And Pornography
Pornography as an industry that has the ability to shape and mold pre teen and young adult lives.
Queer porn exists as a fetish, arguably for heterosexual individuals more so than homosexual
individuals. Pornography serves as a mechanism for learning about sex and sexual acts for almost all
individuals trying to figure out their bodies, but what does this industry actually promote? Gay
pornography, as a focus, has formational ties to dominance, the socially constructed closet, and queer
death as a whole. Porn exists as a pleasure system that suffices to satisfy sexual proclivities. To get to
the root of how porn creates the want for dominance, we also must consider the differences that exists
between gay porn and lesbian porn. Lesbian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bersani also speaks about how ...the moral taboo on passive anal sex and how to be penetrated is equal
to relinquishing power. The power dynamic that is projected through gay porn also serves as anti
female propaganda. The submissive party is usually portrayed as weak, having no control, and the
sexual acts are more likely to be seen as being forced upon this individual. From a heterosexual
standpoint, the woman is the submissive party. In today s society, a woman is arguably the worst thing
someone can be, so when submissiveness is connected to the insertee, one may tend to link that to
femininity; the worst thing one can have, assuming femininity is linked to womenhood. While
pornography works as a pleasure system, it can also work as a means of support for individuals who
are not open with their sexuality. The closet is a socially constructed safety net that protects queer
individuals. Positive queer representation in the media is almost non existent, but pornography allows
queer individuals to see themselves on a national platform. When queer characters are incorporated in
books and on the screen, they usually have tragedy connected to them. In a way, because of this, porn
can be seen as liberating; it is a platform that embraces homosexuality and doesn t conclude with
queer death or disaster. No, gay pornography is not the saving grace in terms of queer representation,
but as discussed in The Celluloid

  • 2. Critical Analysis Of Wallace Stevens s The Inhabitants The daily ritual of leaving work in the city to arrive home in the suburbs has been masterfully depicted in the poem, The Inhabitants. By taking the New Critical analysis approach in using scientific theory, we can unpack its meaning through a defined system self contained within the text. In our analysis of The Inhabitants we take a structuralism approach. Structuralism as defined by Mary Klages, in her book Literary Theory: A Guide for the Perplexed, is a way of thinking that works to find the fundamental basis units or elements of which anything is made. (p 31). The number 5 is a very powerful prime number. Taking a closer look at the poem, we see the power of the 5 paradigm and how it plays a crucial role in unlocking the poem s very meaning. Similarly, in our class exercise we utilized the work of Wallace Stevens, A Postcard From the Volcano , and reduced the story to its bare bones. Getting to the basics of Guest s piece, we can simply start with its structural rhythm of five stanzas. Each stanza is a self contained unit that describes the transition from the city to the suburbs. In the first stanza the descriptive is of the onset of departing office workers pilgrimage, Like people in an opera on the street, gracefully orchestrate an orderly descent from their office building to the bus stop. Not the mad dash out the door that school children make as their final school bell rings, nonetheless just as anxious. Listen to the last line of the first stanza, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Narcissism In Patrick Bateman s American Psycho American Psycho Patrick Bateman is a 26 year old investment banker, living in the 80 s New York. On the surface he s rich, attractive and charming. But behind his successful façade rests a soulless serial killer. When he s not committing murders or having sex, he s worrying about how the world perceives him. But is Patrick really a killer? He admits to his crimes to his friends, but everyone thinks he s joking or ignore him completely, and to Patrick s dismay the bodies seem to be disappearing without a trace. Bateman believes that he is a psychopath, and describes himself as one, but I don t think that s true. His distorted sense of self, mood swings, feelings of emptiness and hallucinations matches both Borderline Personality Disorder and Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Narcissism is one of Patrick s defining traits, if someone s better than him, or has something of higher value, he turns into a lunatic. One example of this is when Patrick gets jealous of his co worker s business card, and he attempts to kill him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He has a hard time controlling his rage, and doesn t care who he hurts. The crimes get more and more orbid as the book goes on. Sometimes he records as he tortures women, and in one chapter he shows one of the movies to a woman before murdering her. One of his most grotesque acts consists of Patrick shoving a starved rat into a womans vagina, and then removed all exits. He then watched as the rat attempted to eat its way out, while the girl was struggling and screaming in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Goal Directed Behavior There are two main components involved in goal directed behavior, which is defined as the behavior directed towards accomplishing a specific goal. The first is to select a proper course of action and the second is to learn to adjust the behavior depending on the surrounding conditions. Studies have shown that the basal ganglia is the brain region largely responsible for the selection and initiation of these willed movements. That is to say, the main function of the basal ganglia is in controlling voluntary movements. Within the basal ganglia of the brain, there is an important input structure called the dorsal striatum, which plays a vital role in the reward system of the brain. Moreover, the dorsal striatum is made up of 2 opponent pathways ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, when the researchers activated the population of neurons in the direct pathway (dMSNs), it caused the mice to accelerate and push the joystick at a faster rate on future movements. In contrast, when the researchers activated the population of neurons in the indirect pathway (iMSNs), it caused the mice to decelerate and push the joystick at a slower rate on future movements. These results were consistent with the wide held belief that separate population of neurons in the basal ganglia promote and suppress movement. However, contrary to popular belief, Yttril and Dudman found that this is not always the case as they discovered that stimulation of dMSNs of the direct pathway can also slow movement, while stimulation of iMSNs of the indirect pathway can also speed movement. Interestingly, this result only seemed to occur in situations where the researchers activated a population of neurons at a moment the mouse was making a slow movement of the joystick. This was different from the first case, in which researchers activated a population of neurons at a moment the mouse was making a fast movement of the joystick. Additionally, the researchers discovered that stimulation of either population of neurons did not have any impact on the rate of movement initiation or on the rate of water licking by the mice, thus indicating that movement initiation and motivation are not affected by activation of the neurons. Lastly, Yttril and Dudman attempted to stimulate the loss of the chemical dopamine in mice in order to help determine the effect of dopamine on the movement speed of the mice pushing the joystick. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, a chemical messanger released by neurons in the brain, that plays a vital role in reward motivated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. To Kill A Mockingbird Reflection Throughout their lives, individuals learn many valuable lessons that help them to grow and mature as human beings. This also means being cooperative with people. The prominent novel, To Kill a Mockingbird , by Harper Lee portrays a story written from a girl named Scout. Scout is in her childhood and faces many hardships, including the trial of Tom Robinson and her dad being the defendant. One prominent theme that Lee includes is how individuals must see different perspectives putting an end to bigotry and the tension between others. Atticus Finch is a great example of an individual who instructs his children, Jem and Scout, precious life lessons about accepting all people. In chapter eleven Atticus tries to explain to Jem, why different people have a different view on things by saying, She had her own views about things, a lot different from mine, maybe... son, I told you that if you hadn t lost your head I d have made you go read to her... she was the bravest person I knew (Lee 128). This conveys that Atticus wanted Jem to understand and accept her rather than just judging her. Sometimes getting to know people isn t so bad because you never really understand them until you enlighten a person. Not only does Atticus takes his time to understand Mrs. Dubose, but he also takes his time out to defend Tom Robinson. Scout is troubled from the rumors of her dad being the defendant of Tom Robinson. Lee explains why Atticus defends Tom Robinson despite of the ridicule when she writes ... the main one is, is I didn t I couldn t hold up my head in town, I couldn t represent this country in the legislature, I couldn t even tell you or Jem not to do something again (Lee 86). Atticus accepted the case because he suggests that his morals for children and others are far greater than his reputation. Although the people in Maycomb is racist, Atticus is there for Tom Robinson and being a role model for his children to accept people for who they are. Atticus attempts to teach his kids about seeing things in other people s point of view to eliminate prejudice because he knows that the town is full of bigotry and racism. Atticus teaches Scout a life lesson, which he applies to real life situations, in the hopes of shaping her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Engineering Report the Bicycle Engineering Report Recumbent Bicycle Reynolds 853 The Reynolds 853 is a steel alloy created by Reynolds Cycle Technology, a manufacturing company based in Birmingham, England. It is composed of several elements solely including iron, carbon, chrome and molybdenum but also includes silicon, copper and manganese. The Steel s physical properties include a stiffness level similar to mild steel. With the addition of chrome and molybdenum the steel can be strong enough to butt or be thinned down in the middle, thus making the material lighter. It has an excellent strength to weight ratio obtained from heat treatment used in its formation. The heat treatment used for this steel does not use quenching rather uses air cooling or air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is half as stiff as most steels though is half as dense making it 20% lighter than steel. For stiff titanium frames it is required to have a larger diameter, than comparable steels, though not as large as aluminum. The frame is also very corrosive resistant. With the addition of silicon the alloy can obtain significant grain refinement and it can be said that titanium alloys have a perfect balance of properties for frame building. Welding must be done carefully to avoid contamination and machining must be done precisely. Titanium is very reactive to atmospheric gases and can result in degradation in the material. Titanium is weldable in annealing conditions but provide limited weld ductility and heat affected zone ductility. It can also be significantly strengthened by cold working. Due to titanium being rather expensive it is rarely used for cycles. It is expensive not only because of the material costs, but also because of the care and time that must be put into the welding process. 7005 Aluminum Like the Reynolds X100, 7005 Aluminum is an aluminum alloy but consisting of Zinc and Magnesium. Due to its cost and inconvenience of heat treating, 7005 aluminum has gained considerable popularity with smaller companies. 7005 Aluminum has similar properties to the Reynolds X100. It is seen as the second most common material and is most likely to overtake steel as most popular material used for frame design. It is 12% stiffer and 20% lighter than steel ... • 7. Similarities Between To Kill A Mockingbird And Hamlet Structuralism states that both Hamlet and Bob Ewell condemn themselves, as they are both responsible for the deaths of innocent people (Polonius and Tom Robinson respectively.) Although Hamlet is the protagonist in the play, contrasting with Bob Ewell being the villain in To Kill a Mockingbird. The two texts show that, good or evil, the murder of an innocent person will create chaos in a community and until it is resolved by the subsequent death of the murderer, the chaos will continue. For instance in Hamlet, when Hamlet goes to speak with his mother after the play, he believes Claudius is spying on them from behind a curtain. He stabs at the intruder without verifying their identity and finds out it is not the King, but Polonius his right hand man. HAMLET What s this, a rat? I ll bet a buck he s a dead rat now. (stabs his sword through the arras and kills POLONIUS) POLONIUS (from behind the arras) Oh, I am slain. GERTRUDE O me, what hast thou done? HAMLET Nay, I know not. Is it the king? GERTRUDE Oh, what a rash and bloody deed is this! HAMLET A bloody deed? Almost as bad, good mother, As kill a king and marry with his brother. Hamlet believes he is justified in killing Polonius although this is not true and dresses Ophelia mad when she hears of her father s death. Although Hamlet s intention was to kill Claudius he condemns himself in killing an innocent person. As a matter of fact, he is so driven to kill Claudius he does not even know who he has killed. However, if the intruder had been Claudius, rather than Polonius, Hamlet s killing would have been justified as vengeance for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. What I Learned From My Writing Since the beginning of English 1100, I have created trends in my writing. My approach to writing, point of view, and writing styles are similar in all of my papers. I have taken the skills I learned from my previous experiences of writing and improved them in this class. My liberal ideas that have been embedded in my writing since high school are shown and reflected in multiple projects that I ve completed. Many of my grammatical errors began to stick out and I have since learned how to correct them. English 1100 has helped me to correct grammatical errors that I had never noticed before and has ultimately allowed me to discover why I write a particular way. I have improved my writing habits through this class and have been able to enhance my skills to the best of my ability. A common trend among my papers has been my sentence structure. For the most part, my sentences would be short and very straight forward. A common mistake that I see among many of my peers is writing consciously, a problem I do not have. I like that I can get right to the point which allowed me to be more direct in stating my facts and less worried about filling my paper with fluff. By the end of the semester, I learned to make my sentences more balanced which would allow me to have more flow throughout my paper. As the semester went on I started to pay closer attention to the length and the content of each sentence and how each correlated with each other. I took a skill I had coming into the class and ... • 12. The Most Beautiful Pieces Of Music How is it possible to create some of the most beautiful pieces of music the world has ever heard and the creator not be able to hear it himself? The world of music has seen many memorable composers such as Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Vivaldi, but none has as amazing a story as Ludwig Van Beethoven. His life played out like one of his beautiful symphonies, with unimaginable highs, lows, victories, and defeats, (Viegas 5). Ludwig Van Beethoven was an 18th century classical composer famous for his nine symphonies, and is also recognized as one of the cornerstones of Western civilization through the legacy of his music. Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany. He was the son of Johann, a tenor of the court of the Elector of Cologne, who also taught violin and piano lessons, and the grandson of the man he was named after, who was the music director at the court of the Elector of Cologne. His mother, Maria, was the daughter of a cook and was never truly accepted by Johann s father as his wife because of her social status. It is believed that Johann s marriage to her defied his father. There is no record of his date of birth, but there is a record of the day he was baptised December 17, 1770. In Roman Catholic tradition, a child is baptised the day after their birth, so it is commonly believed that Beethoven s date of birth is December 16, 1770. • 13. Persuasive Essay On Why Volunteers Are Important In Youth... Volunteers are one of the most important things in youth sports. Because without volunteers there can t be any games played or practices, and the kids won t get any better. Youth sports are important to the kids because it helps kids be able to work as a team better and work together with other kids, it helps them get better at the sport they re playing, and it teaches them discipline and dedication. And, the better the kids get from playing in youth sport organizations, the higher chance they will have to maybe play in High School, College, and maybe even the pros. Making youth sports available early on can set people up to possibly play that sport for the rest of their life. Volunteers do a lot just so the kids can have a good time and learn more skills about a sport. Most pf the people that are involved with a sports organization do it for free and for the kids, if there wasn t volunteers, there s no sports. For example, they organize schedules for the games/practices, they run the scoreboard/score book, they run the snack bar, make food to sell at the snack bar, find places for the kids to practice and play in, they order uniforms, and they coordinate fundraising. Although all of AR670 1 is important to follow, I will start with the army grooming standards, due to my failure to follow these set standards. When considering a change in hairstyle, as I did, it would be wise for anyone to review AR670 1 to prevent assignments such as this. On top of following these guidelines, consultation with ones leadership would be a smart measure. A general grooming standard is important to maintain certain uniformity within the military. Although many hairstyles are acceptable, they must be neat and conservative. Since it is impossible to address every acceptable hairstyle or whether it is considered conservative or not, it is the responsibility of leaders at all levels to demonstrate proper judgment on the enforcement of the standards. Essentially, cystic fibrosis causes a lot of sticky mucus buildup in many organs, including the pancreas, lungs, and other organs. One interesting fact about Cystic Fibrosis has to do with its epidemiology, interestingly enough, the distribution and prevalence of cystic fibrosis does depend on race; white people have a higher chance of being born with Cystic fibrosis, this is believed to be because the emergence of cystic fibrosis began in the stone age in Europe (Daniel, Emanuela, Genel Lucia, 2015). Since cystic fibrosis is a recessive autosomal disease, a person affected inherits two mutated genes from each parent as opposed to a single gene. Cystic Fibrosis is caused specifically in the CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator) gene , within this gene the most common mutation is the deletion of phenylalanine at codon 508, this is the most common mutation within the 1600 known possible mutations for cystic fibrosis (Alton, Bush, Davies, 2007). The ideal path to diagnose cystic fibrosis is through measuring sweat electrolyte levels, doctors measure the sweat levels and then check to see if the levels are abnormally high, as with Cystic fibrosis patients there is a high concentration of chloride and sodium (Alton, Bush, Davies, 2007). • 17. Argumentative Essay On Technology And Technology Whether you are a geek, buying the latest smartphone, game console, and latest Apple products or you are just the minimalist who only has the necessary smart devices like your phone and maybe a laptop, it is undeniable that technology is making its way into every nook and cranny of modern society. Owning your own car was treated as a way to be free back in the eighties, but now owning a car is starting to become a thing of the past as companies such as UBER and Lyft are replacing taxies but making a new form of public transportation constantly available almost everywhere around the world. Even though technology has basically taken over every aspect of our lives does not mean that every person has embraced it with open arms. These days we still have an ongoing debate about whether smart devices and the internet are helping or hurting society as a whole or not. Enthusiasts on this topic tend to look at a more optimistic view on this new technological age expressing how they think that robots and artificial intelligence will change our world for the better both Kevin Kelly s Better than Human , Clive Thompson s Smarter than You Think , as well as Brooke Gladstone and Josh Neufeld s The Influencing Machines explore. On the other hand, skeptics tend to write about how these new technologies are tainting our own capabilities and making us more dependent rather than relying on our own skills, says Nicholas Carr in his article Is Google Making Us Stupid? . Although technology has changed many aspects of our lives we should still pay attention to how it has benefitted many aspects of our daily lives. One of the main concerns that people have in accordance to new technological advances is how it affects our brains and how we think. Although I tend to be an enthusiast when it comes to new cutting edge hardware or software I still agree with Carr on the fact that technology may not be this great learning tool with no downsides that everyone hypes it up to be. Unfortunately, by the beginning of the 16th century, the painting began to show deterioration due to the failed technique that Leonardo had developed called tempra. Several attempts were made over the centuries to restore the piece but were unsuccessful until modern restoration techniques were applied after World War II. The poet has used the night and stars to give out the message that nothing in the world should be feared, and that, there is a good side to even the worst possible things. Kelly Flynn found that out when she lost her position in the Air Force and years of pilot training went down the drain. But for the Commander in Chief, it is another story. Thus, just because Clinton admitted to doing the misdeeds, he cannot be criticized by military members. In other words, one cannot accurately talk about President Clinton without getting into serious trouble. The military may seem unnecessarily restrictive or antiquated but there is a reason for the mandate. Officers must respect their superiors. It is simple as that. The reasoning behind that is that routines and orders must be obeyed. After all, soldiers are being trained and must be ready to go into combat at any time. The reason that the personnel cannot criticize their leader should be obvious. If a war or conflict were to break out, it would significantly affect performance as well as the world s perception about the United States. Thus, no matter how one feels, there must be respect given to every single officer all the way up the line to the commander in chief. The fact that Clinton himself has not been in compliance is immaterial. While he is the Commander in Chief he is still considered to be a civilian. While it is important to give the president respect, respect to Military Superior Commanding Officers and Non Commission Officers is perhaps even more pertinent. It is one of the main elements of metabolic syndrome. Epidemiological studies have shown that persons with the metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). One of the possible mechanisms is that lipids and lipoproteins have been found to be associated with neoplastic processes as well as inflammation, insulin resistance and oxidative stress. On the other side, some of the factors that influence lipid and lipoprotein concentration unfavorably (ie. smoking, obesity, a high fat and low fiber diet consumption) can contribute to the development of colon cancer as well. The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between low HDL blood levels and colonic cancer. Methods: A retrospective case control study was conducted. • 30. The Performance Of The Symphony I have never had the chance to sit and watch a symphony before. I have heard them in plays and other performances, but they have never been the main production in something I have seen. It was very interesting to see the structure behind the sound. The amount of people and different instruments all together making a cohesive piece of music was absolutely incredible. There appeared to be well over 50 musicians working together to produce different sounds that fit together so tenaciously. Among the instruments involved in the orchestra, I noticed cellos, flutes, clarinets, cymbals, tambourines, trumpets, violins, trombones, tubas, french horns, and even a few instruments that I could not recognize. The diversity in the instruments created a strong yet effortless feeling in the listener. The music flowed so well that it seemed simple and easy, yet when I looked into the orchestra and saw how many components go into the composition, it is clear that it is quite intricate. The symphony was set in a beautiful concert venue, the Boston Symphony Hall. The high ceilings were dripping with elaborate chandeliers, creating beautiful lighting for the on stage performers. The chairs of the instrumentalists were turned in a way so that all the performers could be viewed by the audience, and the conductors back was turned so he could face his orchestra. The walls on both sides were lined with two levels of seats, and four rows of seats were organized in front of the stage. Four windows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Absolute Concentration Lab Report The magnitude of a star is simply how bright the star is. The brightest stars were of first magnitude, however, the dullest were of sixth magnitude. The simple scale of magnitude was made popular by Ptolemy, but is thought to have started with Hipparchus. The scale is sometimes considered confusing since the brighter the star is, the smaller the magnitude it has. In 1856, Norman Robert Pogson determined the system of magnitude by specifying a first magnitude star as a star that is 100 times as bright as a sixth magnitude star, in that coming up with the logarithmic scale that we use today. It is important to note that the scale is logarithmic: the relative brightness of two objects is determined by the difference of their magnitudes (Wiki). The magnitude scale we use today is logarithmic, which means that for each unit stars go up the scale, they get dimmer by a factor of 2.512. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the brightest stars are considered to be of first magnitude, this equation calculates the magnitude. To calculate the absolute magnitude when the apparent magnitude and distance are known the formula is M=m 5log(d/10), M being the absolute magnitude, m being the apparent magnitude, and d being the distance. Absolute magnitude is how bright a star appears from 10 pc, or 33 light years, expressed as M . (Star Magnitude). Apparent magnitude m of a star is a number that tells how bright that star appears at its great distance from Earth (Apparent and absolute). The apparent brightness of a star depends of two components: the natural brightness of the star and the distance. Apparent magnitude is a bad index of how bright a star actually is. • 32. Quick Change Methodology For Making A Manufacturing... Quick Change Methodology Report Jacob Lambrecht 12/14/16 Process I Today I will be talking about the research I did on quick change methodology. This is a very fascinating and important topic for the machining process in all plants across the world. The topics that will be covered in this paper are as follows defining quick change methodology and tooling for machining with an overview history and recent advancements, SMED overview history and recent advancements, then a compare and contrast of quick change methodology and SMED, and to wrap up the paper I will illustrate how I can use this information to improve a manufacturing process I am familiar with. These were great research topics and I learned a ton of great valuable information that would be very useful in future endeavors. First I will talk about defining quick change methodology and tooling for machining with an overview history and recent advancements. It is a modular system that allows tools to be changed rapidly on a machine during the initial part setup and the tool change after a tool is worn out. The system radically decreases machine downtime for tool change for the duration of setup changes. It is also for changing worn out inserts during machining. Normally a tool is fastened by putting it into a slot in the turret and tightening screws to hold it resolutely. With doing this older process of fastening the tool, extreme care must be taken to seat the holder correctly against existing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Free Trade Agreement The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as well as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) were failures. The North American Free Trade Agreement was one of the most controversial documents of the 20th century, beginning January 1st 1988.1 The reason it was so controversial was because it was loved in some ways yet hated in others. One of the reasons why the FTA and NAFTA were failures is due to the fact that Prime Minister Brian Mulroney lost a lot of votes caused by the amount of voters that disapproved of the FTA and NAFTA. Another reason the FTA and NAFTA were failures is because the agreement did not improve the amount of full time jobs in Canada, which was one of the reasons that the FTA and NAFTA was created in the first place. The final reason the deal failed was because the deal was supposed to improve productivity around Canada but really did nothing. The FTA and NAFTA were failures because it only helped a small handful of Canadians and hindered many more. The first main reason why the FTA and NAFTA were failures was because of the popularity Prime Minister Brian Mulroney lost. Mulroney was elected into government in 1984 with the biggest election win in Canadian history. When he was re elected in 1988, it gave Mulroney the go ahead with the FTA which was implemented at midnight on January 1st 1989. Before Mulroney brought the FTA to the table he was thought of as the best Prime Minister Canada had ever elected. After the FTA and NAFTA, Mulroney was said to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nevertheless, this odd and seemingly harmless trend is actually dangerous because it allows people to deny white privilege. White people are invisible in our society. They are seen as normal people, without a culture or distinct characteristics. Comedian Trevor Noah noted how we call people of different races African American, Asian American, and Native American, but we don t refer to white people as European American (Polito). Molecular Biology And Biotechnology ( Biotech ) CARBON SOURCE The lignocellulosic hydrolysate will be prepared by the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH, UPLB) from sweet sorghum bagasse subjected to pretreatment followed by sulfuric acid (0.75 wt% and pH 1.1) hydrolysis at 100∘C. BACTERIAL STRAIN Cupriavidus necator is a bacterial strain that is commonly used in accumulating poly 3 hydroxybutyrate (PHB), the most common type of PHA. It is most effective when the amount of carbon source present is in excess compared to the other essential nutrients in the medium like nitrogen, phosphorus or oxygen (Lopez Abelairas, Garcia Torreiro, Lu Chau, Lema, Steinbuchel, 2015). This bacterial strain will be pre cultured from within 24 hours in a 500 mL Erlenmeyer flask under 30∘C and 150 revolutions per minute (rpm) without the addition of other carbon source (Martinez, Bertin, Scoma, Rebecchi, Braunegg, Fava, 2015). The C. necator culture will be stored at 80∘C in a 2 mL cryovial containing 300 µL of glycerol with 20 grams per liter (g/L) of xylose (Cesario, Raposo, de Almeida, van Keulen, Ferreira, da Fonseca, 2014). In this experiment, dual phase strategy will be performed. This will employ that two different media will be prepared for the first and the second process. The first process will involve the cell growth or the balanced growth phase. On the other hand, the second process will involve the accumulation of PHA. In William Shakespeare s comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, the theme focusses on the effects of eavesdropping and gossip and their effect on the characters. One of the first accounts of this is at the masquerade between Claudio and Borachio. Another instance of noting is the Benedick and Beatrice subplot. Lastly, it happens again when the Watch overhears Borachio telling Conrad about his deeds. Eavesdropping, along with gossiping, is a crucial theme that develops throughout the play. The theme is introduced lightly, at first it seems as if it is simple miscommunication, but it is later revealed to be intentional and meant to ruin a budding romance. For instance, Borachio overheard Don Pedro and Claudio talking about having Pedro woo Hero for Claudio. Then, Borachio goes off and tells this to Don John who says, ... This may prove ... • 39. Theme Of Childhood In To Kill A Mockingbird Evan Carlson 11 15 17 Adv Eng 4th Motherhood The story To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee takes place in a fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama, this is based on Lee s hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. In the story Calpurnia is the maid for the Finch family, because in the 1930 s it was still common for negroes to work as house servants for low pay and little respect. Calpurnia is the only present female figure in the Finch household, which in a sense makes her the mother to Scout and Jem. Atticus and Calpurnia are both parents to the children, but Calpurnia is more of a stickler especially since she has already had children of her own. Cal embraces her second motherhood to do the best possible job at hoping she can make a difference in their lives which was not present with her biological children. In the story Scout and Calpurnia share many parallels with a mother and daughter. For instance, She was always ordering me out of the kitchen, asking me why I couldn t behave as well as Jem when she knew he was older, and calling me home when I wasn t ready to come (Lee 6). This shares many similarities with the epic battles that mothers and children face through raising their children and growing up, given my parents are sticklers I have been in my fair share of wars. Growing up in my house and being at my friends behavior, getting out of the kitchen, and getting called inside was, and still is a vicious cycle constantly in motion enacted by our mothers and is ... Queer porn exists as a fetish, arguably for heterosexual individuals more so than homosexual individuals. Pornography serves as a mechanism for learning about sex and sexual acts for almost all individuals trying to figure out their bodies, but what does this industry actually promote? Gay pornography, as a focus, has formational ties to dominance, the socially constructed closet, and queer death as a whole. Porn exists as a pleasure system that suffices to satisfy sexual proclivities. To get to the root of how porn creates the want for dominance, we also must consider the differences that exists between gay porn and lesbian porn. Lesbian ... The power dynamic that is projected through gay porn also serves as anti female propaganda. The submissive party is usually portrayed as weak, having no control, and the sexual acts are more likely to be seen as being forced upon this individual. From a heterosexual standpoint, the woman is the submissive party. In today s society, a woman is arguably the worst thing someone can be, so when submissiveness is connected to the insertee, one may tend to link that to femininity; the worst thing one can have, assuming femininity is linked to womenhood. While pornography works as a pleasure system, it can also work as a means of support for individuals who are not open with their sexuality. The closet is a socially constructed safety net that protects queer individuals. Positive queer representation in the media is almost non existent, but pornography allows queer individuals to see themselves on a national platform. When queer characters are incorporated in books and on the screen, they usually have tragedy connected to them.
