How Is Atticus Finch Courageous
Courage is an interesting word. Courage can be a feeling or an act. In the novel To Kill a
Mockibngbird the characters Mrs Dubose, Tom Robinson and Atticus Finch all demonstrate what true
courage really is. The first character I will discuss is Mrs Dubose. Mrs Dubose is a very old woman
battling an illness and a morphine addiction. Secondly, I will discuss Tom Robinson. Tom is a black
man who is (falsely) accused of rape by Mayella Ewell. Finally I will explain why Atticus Finch is
courageous. Atticus is the father of the novel s narrator Scout or Jean Louise Finch. All three
characters demonstrate great bravery throughout the novel, each have their hardships and each try to
push through the adversity to their best ability.

As a reader, I found Atticus to be the most courageous character in the novel. The reasons behind this
statement are that Atticus defends a black man in court, he stands up to the lynch mob in front of the
jailhouse and because he can fight without words. First, Atticus is very valorous for taking the Tom
Robinson case. For a white man to be acquainted with a black man who was not his slave was rather
sporadic. Even after all of the physical and verbal abuse Atticus took he kept his word and defended
Tom for all he was worth. I can t stay here all day and this summer is going to be a hot one. (Atticus,
Page 128) As a reader, this was the greatest act of courage executed in the novel. For Atticus to risk
his respect, family and life to protect a black man took great bravery and sacrifice. Secondly, Atticus
protected Tom from he lynch mob at the jailhouse. As the men poured out of the car towards Atticus,
he was undaunted buy the moving shadows approaching him. In ones and twos, men got out of the
cars. Shadows became substance as lights revealed solid shapes moving toward the jail door. Atticus
remained where he was. (Scout, Page 152 153) Atticus fearlessly confronted the mass of angry men
and reasoned with them until there is an interruption courtesy of Scout. This event proves that Atticus
is very brave because he came up against a whole mob and did not back down. Finally, Atticus is

The God Of Nightmares By Paula Fox
I wonder how many of us regret losing our innocence. Do we remember the exact moment it
happened? To me, innocence is the lack of awareness of people being untrustworthy and bad. The
moment you realize that the world is not what you thought when you wore your rose colored glasses is
very sad. We may wish we could go back and erase what we know or attempt to get back what was
lost, but unfortunately that just cannot happen. God is an incorporeal being and the source of all moral
obligations. Losing our innocence is about experiences from the rebellion against God by ourselves or
others that cause our spirit to be broken or wounded. In, The God of Nightmares , by Paula Fox we
will analysis the loss of innocence and the world of faith destroyed, thus embodying the God of
nightmares. Faith is a belief, confidence or trust in a person, object, religion, idea or view. The story
opens with Helen s mother having faith that her husband, whom left over ten years earlier would
return to her and their daughter, Helen. She never moved on with her life, but maintained the home,
herself and Helen as if he was to return. Helen receives a letter from her father s girlfriend letting her
know that he is dead. The first moment in the book when faith is shattered and the reality of how
others are, comes to fruition. We might have known! My mother cried out, the note falling from her
hand as she dropped to her knees in front of a glass cabinet that held trophies cups, faded

1. Summarize the structure and function of organelles in eukaryotic cells and ways that these
organelles interact with each other to perform the function of the cell (must include: the nucleus,
plasma membrane, cell wall, mitochondria, vacuoles, chloroplasts and ribosomes).
Eukaryotic cells contain many important organelles that have unique structures and functions that
interact with each other to perform the essential activities within the cell. One of the most important
organelles is the nucleus which contains the hereditary material of the cell such as the chromosomes
and DNA. The nucleus also functions as a brain or control center of the cell by directing the activities
of other organelles such as protein synthesis. Another important organelle is the plasma membrane ...

The plasma membrane regulates the flow of materials such as organic molecules, ions like Na+ and
K+, water, oxygen, and waste products within the cell and out of the cell through passive and active
transport, and osmosis. A similar structure to the plasma membrane is found in prokaryotic cells
known as the cell wall. The cell wall is a rigid structure made of polysaccharides located outside of the
plasma membranes of plants, fungi, and bacteria cells that provide structural support, protection, and
filtering mechanism. The mitochondria or powerhouse of the cell, is a double membrane structure with
inner layers that fold to form layers called the cristae. The mitochondria use available oxygen to
convert chemical energy from food to ATP that the cell can use, through the citric acid or Kreb cycle.
The vacuoles are unique vesicles like structures that are found in the cytoplasms of cells and are
typically larger to provide structural support for plants than in animal cells. The vacuoles are used to
transport materials, isolate harmful materials, and store the essential nutrients, water, and waste. In
addition, plant cells also have an

Human Looping Research Paper
II: Variant of the Looping Effects of Human Kinds
In the above I have introduced the concept of Hacking s looping effects of human kinds and defended
it against a couple of common criticisms. I will now modify the concept in order to make it useful for
the case in question. I will then show that this concept remains intelligible.
Namely, what I am proposing to do is to remove condition (iii) from Hacking s schema and replace it
with a similar concept. (iii) being:

Queer was first used in reference to sexuality in the 1920s by homosexual men who rejected the
effeminacy connected with the term fairy (Brontsema, 2004). Over the course of the early to mid
twentieth century both the terms fairy and queer fell out of fashion with the male homosexual
community and gay became the most popular self ascription for homosexual men (Brontsema, 2004).
Around the mid to late twentieth century queer was primarily used as a derogatory term, levelled at
homosexual people in general (Brontsema, 2004). Towards the end of the 1980s some within the
LGBT community began to push for the reclamation of the word queer. One such group were Queer
Nation an offshoot of the group ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) (Brontsema, 2004). At
the 1990 New York Gay Pride the group handed out leaflets headed Queers Read This (QUEERS
READ THIS, 1990). In the pamphlet they addressed their use of the term queer saying every gay
person has his or her own take on it... for some it means eccentric...and for others queer conjures up
those awful memories . But what Queer Nation emphasise is that it should be the gay community who
get to decide what the word means; it s a weapon we can steal from the homophobe s hand and use it
against him . They also emphasise the fact that it is them who decides the meaning and the value
ascribed to it saying queer means leading a different sort of life ,

Essay on A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty
A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty
In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, many interesting fantasies occur
in a way which brings the reader into a different world. The story switches back and forth from
delusion to reality, dragging the reader into a life, perhaps similar to their own. In the beginning of this
story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It describes his life as a
commander of an aircraft. An intense scene is displayed showing what Walter Mitty wishes would be
reality. It is not until the next paragraph that one discovers this reality. His wife then interrupts the
scene, bringing Walter Mitty back into his everyday life, one which is far less exciting to ... Show

The formalistic approach for analyzing this would be most appropriate in order to pick out the
elements such as setting, irony, imagery and metaphorical factors. These are organized in such a way
that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the
introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings because of
these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two introductory
characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen as a guessing game
to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this introduction. Once the setting is
described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the reader will grasp an understanding of
where these two characters are. However, soon after the reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is
interrupted with the dialogue of a new character, Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said
Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the
basic structure that this story will set forth. The organization of this story goes from what was
described in the introductory paragraph as a flashback, to the interrupting dialogue of Mrs. Mitty. As
she yells,

Comparison of Moses and Odysseus
The stories of heroes have been at the axis of nearly all cultures throughout history. Each different
type of religion or culture has their own heroes or legends, each one of them having their differences
to go along with the beliefs at hand. On the other hand, each and every hero also has their similarities,
which therefore makes them the hero. The setting, events, and characters in each and every story may
change, but the characteristics of the hero remain basically the same. Each person is usually made into
a hero in a somewhat similar fashion. For example, many heroes begin as imperfect characters, and
then begin some sort of quest which leads to them becoming a leader of what they are doing, and then

Odysseus s voyage had to be completed before saving his people, while Moses exodus and his people
s salvation were simultaneous. In either case, the journey is vital to the hero in order for him to
undergo a personal transformation into the legendary hero they became.
Moses fought a Pharaoh, the desert, his own people, and himself during his long journey to the
Promised Land. Odysseus also had a long journey home and while on that journey battled Poseidon,
the sea, his men, and himself. Not only are the stories of The Odyssey and Exodus the similar, but the
heroes, Odysseus and Moses, share many of the same attributes and behaviors. Both, despite having
murderous pasts, were chosen by their God or gods to be the savior of their people. Each had a
specific limitation that directly interfered with the completion of their mission. And since they were
helped by God or the Greek gods along the way, Moses and Odysseus ultimately had faith that they
would be successful, regardless of the obstacles ahead. Their similarities exist on a personal level as
well. Both heroes had to make great sacrifices for the good of the whole. They each underwent a
personal transformation as a result of the trials they faced. And each learned a lesson that they passed
on as a message for their people. The hero s journey is also determined by how each story originated.

The Different Ways to Tame a Shrew in Kiss Me Kate and The...
There is not only one method to tame a shrew and the movies Kiss Me Kate and The Taming of the
Shrew prove that this is true. The question is, which method is more effective, and which method truly
succeeds in taming the shrew. To decide which method is the better of the two, the audience has to
look deeper into the methods of Fred and Petruchio. They must study the approach of each of the
tamers by deciding whether their approach is physical or psychological, honest or deceitful. They
must also look at the other methods that each tamer uses and take into account their motives for
taming. When all of these aspects are considered, Fred s method of taming is obviously the better of
the two because it results in a shrew that has truly been tamed. The methods that Petruchio uses to
tame Katerina in the movie The Taming of the Shrew are simply not effective. By the end of the
movie the audience has to ask themselves; is Kate actually tamed or is she just putting on an act?
Judging by Kate s actions it is easy to see that she is in fact not tamed, and is only trying to please
Petruchio. When Kate has her speech about how women should treat their husbands, one gets the
impression that it was not very sincere. Just by the tone of her voice it seems that Kate is just saying
what Petruchio and the others want to hear. Who can blame her? Petruchio s methods of attempting to
tame Kate took a toll on her emotionally and physically. His methods simply sent her to the edge of
insanity

He was the first Doctor after the hiatus. As a character, this Doctor was pretty sassy. Through his
entire showing, he was constantly making sarcastic comments and rude statements. He really
possessed the ill mannered attitude of a moody teenager. When preparing for this role, Eccleston
mostly mimicked Tom Baker s (4th Doctor) performance. They felt that the Doctor was already an
interesting enough character and didn t need to be too exhilarating for his abstract personality to show.
Producer felt this way, even if many fans disagreed. He had one of the smallest fan bases out of any of

negative response they got from Eccleston s performance, the producers decided to go in the exact
opposite way for Tennant. His Doctor was very dramatic. Throughout his long showing, his character
had many heartfelt and action packed moments. His character was very lighthearted, easy going, and
cheeky. Yet, very dramatic when it came to expressing anger or frustration. David Tennant has one of

The Hellenistic Age And Classical Age
While discovering the Hellenistic Age, I learned about the history in Hellenistic civilization.
Hellenism is the term typically to describe the spread of culture from the Greek civilization that
developed after the reign of Alexander the Great. How does the Hellenistic Age differ from the
Classical Age? The Classical Age, referred to as Hellenic Greek, was founded in 507 B.C.E. and
concluded in 323 B.C.E. The Hellenistic Age was founded in 323 B.C.E. and concluded in 31 B.C.E.

city states and their territories. The Hellenistic Age established a great deal in the culture and Greek
language around the places in Mediterranean, Middle East, Central and South Asia. There are three
categories in the Hellenistic Age: cultural, religious, and political/military. The three categories will

The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice

regulations for which the Office of President shall be determined. The founding fathers, in the second

The larger states would no longer control the population lead as their fellow states.
Registration and supervision of a national election would be expensive and very time consuming. In
the 1800s, ballot machines were not available to determine the votes on a wide scale usage. So, ballots
had to be hand counted. And where an election would rest in counting every ballot, it would very time
consuming. And who would be in place to count these votes? Enslaved blacks would almost certainly
favor the candidate who promoted freedom. The issue of bribery of vote counters was brought up in
the convention, and any talk of a corrupt government was quickly hushed.
With an Electoral College in place and guaranteed by our Twelfth Amendment, why should we replace
a system that up until now, caused no problems? Why do critics continue to bombard the Electoral
College with complaints of it being obsolete? Why do the majority of the population see it as an
unnecessary barrier to true democracy (Kuroda)?
On September 4th, 1787, an appointed committee proposed a new method for electing the president,
which took account of the many points made earlier in the five month session. It created the Electoral
College and assigned the states a number of electors equal to their House and Senator representation
they had in Congress. Presidents were to serve 4 year terms and to be eligible for re election. Because

The use of genre in any literary work assist the responder in understanding the text, as prior

characteristics that are recognised. Shakespeare, in his play Twelfth Night uses the Romantic comedy
genre and it s conventions of strong themes of love and a series of obstacles and misunderstandings

The characters of Viola and Olivia are used by Shakespeare to explore the position and rights of the
female in society, in comparison to their male counterparts. Viola especially is used to illustrate this
comparison. Stranded on the shores of Illyria, a land she does not know, with no means of support,
and no one to assist her, she devises a plan to dress as a man and seek employment with the Duke
Orsino. It is when she is dressed in her male attire, posing as the eunuch Cesario, that comparisons
between male and female independence are made.
Dressed as a man, the character Viola has freedom as a man that she could not possibly display when
she reverts to her female self in act 5 of the play. When dressed as Cesario, Viola is able to speak her
mind freely and speak to both Orsino and Olivia, both socially superior to Cesario (but not Viola) as
equals, without fear of repercussion, a privilege certainly not extended to women. An example of
Viola taking advantage of her male right to speak freely and without consequence appears in Act 2
Scene 5, when Orsino tells Cesario that men s love is more intense than women s:
Viola: Ay, But I know
Orsino: What dost thou know?
Viola: Too well what love women to men may owe:
In faith, they are as true of heart as we.

Application Of Software Testing For Software Engineering
Abstract
Software testing is an important activity in software engineering, as it is used for examining the
quality or capability of a software and conforms that it meets the desired output. There are several
methods to do software testing, but testing a complex software efficiently is the process of
investigating thoroughly, it is not like to follow a procedure or method merely. In complex software it
is not possible to discover all the errors. In testing, this type of complex software always creates
problem for tester and throws open questions like, what would be the best strategy that we should
follow? Also, selecting a strategy is important decision as selecting right strategy will allow tester to

The software that works effectively can be tested efficiently.
If the software is designed in controlled manner than the testing would be more automated and
optimized.
The number of changes fewer in design, then there will be fewer confusion in testing.
The testing which uncovers all errors is successful testing.
The process of identifying the correctness and completeness in software is known as testing.

The Apologetics of Christianity Essay
The Apologetics of Christianity
Jesus, a name known by billions throughout the world. To each, this name means something different;
savior, friend, philosopher, prophet, teacher, fraud, fake, liar. Some even believe that He is just an
imaginary character from the minds of those who wrote about Him. The Westminster Dictionary of
Theology describes apologetics as, Defense, by argument, of Christian belief against external criticism
or against other worldly views (Apologetics 31 32). Though there are still many mysteries that
surround the ongoing debate about Christianity, evidence can now prove some of what Christians took
by faith before. Now, more than ever, there is information to prove the existence of this man that

The Old Testament books are written in many different literary styles such as historical, prophetic, or
biographical. Between the Old and New Testaments there were four hundred years during which time
books were not written. As the New Testament begins, it starts with four books commonly known as
the Gospels. These gospels are a biography of the life and works of Jesus Christ himself. The
remainder of the Bible contains mostly letters to various people and churches throughout Asia Minor,
Greece, and Italy. These are letters of encouragement to the early churches of the world and many
Christians who may have been imprisoned or in captivity in several countries. Still one question that
plagues the minds of several modern day Christians is, how did the modern day Bible come to be? The
Old Testament had been decided upon long ago. Elders in the Jewish church met and decided 39
different books in all. These books had been written over the span of several centuries and became
what is today known as the Old Testament. The New Testament was somewhat similar. During the
time shortly after Jesus, there was controversy over the books that were truly from God and those that
were not. The early church hierarchy settled this dispute during the second, third and fourth centuries.
During this time, councils, consisting of church elders, met periodically to determine which books had
true divine inspiration and which were frauds. In the mid fourth century, the New

Bound Feet Footbinding
For almost a thousand years, footbinding was passed down from generation to generation in China as
a tradition. For girls to get their feet bound was a rite of passage, usually starting around the age of
three to seven years old while the bones are still flexible. This custom was done for many reasons,
including beauty, eroticism, feminity, and subordination. Footbinding was the norm, as were tiny
waists in Victorian England. The difference is the pain during the binding as well as the lasting effects
that stayed with the girls through womanhood and until death.
It is said that footbinding originated as early as the Song Dynasty, who ruled from 960 until 1279. By
the twelfth century it was a common practice and became a custom. Bound feet ... Show more content

Having bound feet kept women from being active and keeping them dependent and subservient.
Thorstein Veblen wrote, one rationale behind footbinding was to demonstrate the pecuniary
reputability of the male owner by showing that his woman was useless, expensive, and had to be
supported in idleness. For men, these tiny feet were erotic and seductive, their feet never touched the
dirt. Women wore elaborate shoes that were never taken off, even in bed, and men found this
satisfying. Men had a fetish to take the bandages or shoes off, it was symbolic for feminity and

Difference Between Science And Science
FAITH VERSUS SCIENCE
Megan Wade
Missouri Baptist University
Abstract
Faith versus Science Faith in God and the belief in science will be one of the greatest contradictions in
this world. If God exists, did he created this universe and is there evidence that he is real? Was the
universe created because of the undergoing of science? People have had major conflict with these
questions in the past and within society today. Even if God does exist and people have faith, science
can be one of the most leading forms of worship. Science and religion are complex social and cultural
and have altered from different cultures and change overtime. Science addresses reason and evidence
while fatih addresses sacredness, religion, or revelation. The contradiction, whether faith or science
created this world, is depended on the beliefs of mankind; the believers of Christ or the believers of
science. In the nineteenth century, science became commonly known and is now currently used a lot.
But before this time, science was referred to as experimental philosophy or natural philosophy . There
were attempts to divide science from other endeavors such as religion. Science mainly states the
concerns of the natural world. Scientifically, explanations are not referenced through the soul or spirit
it is expressed through the state of mind or brain states. Faith on the other hand is associated with
natural and supernatural.

Racial Diversity In Churches
A study conducted on 11,000 Evangelical Lutheran Church congregations between 1993 and 2012
claims that racial diversity in churches leads to decline in average attendance.
The research titled Congregational Diversity and Attendance in a Mainline Protestant Denomination
was carried out by Baylor University and is published in Journal for Scientific Study of Religion.
Associate professor of sociology at Baylor and the lead author of study, Kevin Dougherty, said that the
findings do not imply that racial diversity is detrimental to church growth or sustenance, but that
congregations that started off as single race communities will have problems accommodating different
ethnicities later on.
Racial diversity itself is not a detriment to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the study said that predominantly white communities were more likely to experience growth
over time.
The authors of the study tried to test the notion which was held by people of older generations that
homogenous churches have more chances to grow, as against the growing trend among the white
churches to diversify congregations.
That philosophy for a long time discouraged church leaders from striving for diversity, said study co
author Gerardo Martí. But in coming to terms with the historic racial segregation of American
congregations, white pastors in the 1990s aggressively committed to overcoming discrimination,
urging members to bring in those from ancestral backgrounds and reaffirm the Gospel as rooted in
relationships, unity and love. Racial diversity has become a central, and sometimes dominating
ambition for many white churches.
Our research implicitly evaluates the effectiveness of denominational initiatives to become diverse,
revealing the extent to which such grand administrative calls for diversification lead to measurable
success at the local level, Martí

Christians Have Same Beliefs Essay
Christians Have Same Beliefs Another point that supports the argument is that Christians all have the
same basic beliefs, that there is one God and they all believe in Jesus and his teachings, and they only

find out they have more things in common than they don t, as this is a known fact it shows the unity in
the different church groups. Part of being and living as a Christian, is loving others and therefore

the church and other disputes. Pressure toward unity was aided in the 19th century by the development
of such organizations as the Young Men s Christian Association and Young Women s Christian
Association, which were people from different denominations joining in support of common causes.
The evangelical concern of modern ecumenism brought about the formation, in 1921, of the
International Missionary Council, comprising 17 national mission organizations. It coordinated
mission strategy and aided new churches.
The service efforts made by Christians across denominational and national boundaries came to fruition
in 1925, in Stockholm, when the Universal Christian Conference on Life and Work was convened to
study the application of the gospel to industrial, social, political, and international affairs. This
movement proceeded under the slogan service unites but doctrine divides. [1]

Theda Bara, Mortica Addams
Throughout modern history there have been certain characters that personify the very essence of Goth,
for instance Theda Bara [1885 1995], Mortica Addams in the 1960s TV series The Addams Family,
Italian heiress Marchesa Luisa Casati [1881 1957], to more recent iconic Goths like Helena Bonham
Carter and maverick dresser Daphne McGuinness, which has helped inspire individuals and the
movement, to create their own persona and sense of the gothic style. The Goth subculture can be
broadly divided into various subsets which have there own unique characteristics for instance Cyber
Goth, Gothic Lolita and Fetish Goth. In the early days of the movement in the 1980s and 1990s, the
Goth subculture fashion drawing heavily on the early fetish, bondage and S M style for example
straps, buckles, zips, waistcoats, frock coats, corsets, gowns, thigh high stiletto boots and hairstyles
like backcombing and the Deathawk, take some influence from the punk movement. Ian Astbury 1997
describes the early fashion characteristics for the beginning of the Goth culture in the eighties and
nineties; For the male ... black spiky hair and a black leather jacket. For the women ... black fishnets,
black leather thigh high boots ... dark makeup and the big black spiky hair (History of Goth:2016).
The traditional materials for the Gothic style includes lace, brocade, leather, velvet, however modern
Goths within the various subsets have created new materials such as rubber and PVC to create their
own version of the aesthetics. It could be said Gothic punks like Siouxsie Sioux, Joy Dividson, Peter

John Milton Cage Influence On Society
The classical period was a revolutionary start of music for decades to come. Many composers prior to
the 1920s gained their fame and fortune through music and their creativity in composing. John Milton
Cage, Jr. was born in Los Angeles on September 5th in 1912. Cage was the son of John Milton Cage,
Sr., an inventor, hence the creativeness yet to come through his music. In 1928, Cage graduated from
Los Angles High School with the intent to pursue a degree in writing. Cage studied about two years at
Pamona College, travelled Europe for around eighteen months, and then resumed school at UCLA. He

Cage began experimenting with music by placing screws and plates between the strings of a piano to
generate different sounds, known as the prepared piano . He also experimented with tape recorders,
record players, and radios, finding the music around him in the simplest objects, otherwise not
considered instruments by the typical composer or musician. After realizing his makeshift instruments
were not what he needed, he began brainstorming ideas for new instruments. Pieces such as Imaginary
Landscape No. 4 and Water Music were just a few examples of his creativity in music. For Imaginary
Landscape No. 4 Cage used twelve radios played at once to create this composition. Water Music was
created by combining shells and water to form a masterpiece. Cage used unimaginable items such as
kitchen gadgets, metal sheets, various common objects, and even silence to create a discovery no other
composer had considered before. Through his music, he turned the everyday sounds we hear into
something so much more. He performed with his percussion ensemble in New York at the Museum of
Modern Art in 1943. This was the start of a life long musical career to call his

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Traditional Medicine
INTRODUCTION:
The skin or cutaneous membrane covers the external surface of the body. Skin contributes in
thermoregulation, serve as water repellant, and synthesize a number of useful compounds like vitamin
D and most importantly it act as a protective barrier between the external environment and internal
tissue [1]. According to medical dictionary, breaching of skin or underlying tissue due to any accident,
act of violence or surgery is called as wound [2]. Following an injury, the skin has a tremendous
capacity to heal. When skin get injured, the repair process entails removal of the damaged tissue and
laying down of a new extracellular matrix (ECM) over which epidermal continuity can be

Companies should be able to retain their customers in order to attain high profitability. It is claimed by
Reichheld and Sasser (1990) that a 5 % improvement in customer retention can cause an increase in
profitability between 25% and 85%. According to Buchanan and Gilles (1990), loyal customers tend
to be less prices sensitive and are satisfied with their relationship with the company and also less
likely to switch to competitors. As loyal customers have more experience with the business, they need
less assistance, make fewer calls to the call centre and require fewer visits from the sales
representative. This reduces cost for the business and increases profit. (Dean, 2004)
Reasons why companies fail to realize the importance of customers until they are faced with a crisis
Many companies fail to take into consideration the desired needs of the customers which result in their
failure. They do not do a proper research of the market which leads to misconceptions and finally the
customers switch to other firms from which the desired

The Notorious Bettie Page Essay
She was called The Queen of Curves and Miss Pinup Girl of the World . Bettie Page, a Tennessee
native who found success as a model in 1950 s New York, appeared in photos that were as scandalous
as they were sensational. Though tame today, many of the BDSM pictorials and 16mm films that Page
was featured in were deemed pornographic at the time, leading to an investigation by a Senate
Committee into the negative effects such photos were having on the youth of the day. Yet despite all
the controversy surrounding her, Page s popularity never once waned (she was even one of Playboy
magazine s earliest centerfolds). The Notorious Bettie Page, the extraordinary 2005 biopic written and

The Two Accounts Of Creation

The Two Accounts of Creation in Genesis
When God began to create heaven and earth, and the earth then was welter and waste and darkness
over the deep and God s breath hovering er the waters, God said, Let there be light (The Hebrew Bible
94). This is how readers have always started out studying the Bible. Little did they know there was an
entirely different account of creation just a little ways down from the first account they see in Genesis.
So, is there really two different accounts of God creating the Earth in the Bible? Some people believe
yes, others believe, no. Throughout this essay I will be taking a deeper look into the two accounts of
creation by comparing and contrasting the time periods, accounts of vegetation, and the animal life
that God created. The Bible can be a tricky piece of literature to read, but I am going to break it down
to view the accounts in a more in depth view.
In the beginning of Genesis we are introduced to God and he is beginning to make the Earth as we
know it today. The first book of Genesis discusses the way God just had to speak and his words would
bring life to the planet. Genesis 1 takes us on a journey through all six days of creation. Throughout
the six days God manages to create the heavens and the earth, the sky, land, stars, all the creatures that
live in the water, and all the creatures that inhabit the land. Genesis 2 starts out telling us about what

Positive Apsects to Being a Radio Announcer
Radio reaches more than 68% of U.S. consumers ages 12 and older on an average day.
(newsgeneration.com, 2014) I selected a career in radio because I love listening to and being around
music, I love meeting new people, and I love journalism. Radio announcer s present music and news

  • 2. How Is Atticus Finch Courageous Courage is an interesting word. Courage can be a feeling or an act. In the novel To Kill a Mockibngbird the characters Mrs Dubose, Tom Robinson and Atticus Finch all demonstrate what true courage really is. The first character I will discuss is Mrs Dubose. Mrs Dubose is a very old woman battling an illness and a morphine addiction. Secondly, I will discuss Tom Robinson. Tom is a black man who is (falsely) accused of rape by Mayella Ewell. Finally I will explain why Atticus Finch is courageous. Atticus is the father of the novel s narrator Scout or Jean Louise Finch. All three characters demonstrate great bravery throughout the novel, each have their hardships and each try to push through the adversity to their best ability. To begin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a reader, I found Atticus to be the most courageous character in the novel. The reasons behind this statement are that Atticus defends a black man in court, he stands up to the lynch mob in front of the jailhouse and because he can fight without words. First, Atticus is very valorous for taking the Tom Robinson case. For a white man to be acquainted with a black man who was not his slave was rather sporadic. Even after all of the physical and verbal abuse Atticus took he kept his word and defended Tom for all he was worth. I can t stay here all day and this summer is going to be a hot one. (Atticus, Page 128) As a reader, this was the greatest act of courage executed in the novel. For Atticus to risk his respect, family and life to protect a black man took great bravery and sacrifice. Secondly, Atticus protected Tom from he lynch mob at the jailhouse. As the men poured out of the car towards Atticus, he was undaunted buy the moving shadows approaching him. In ones and twos, men got out of the cars. Shadows became substance as lights revealed solid shapes moving toward the jail door. Atticus remained where he was. (Scout, Page 152 153) Atticus fearlessly confronted the mass of angry men and reasoned with them until there is an interruption courtesy of Scout. This event proves that Atticus is very brave because he came up against a whole mob and did not back down. Finally, Atticus is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The God Of Nightmares By Paula Fox I wonder how many of us regret losing our innocence. Do we remember the exact moment it happened? To me, innocence is the lack of awareness of people being untrustworthy and bad. The moment you realize that the world is not what you thought when you wore your rose colored glasses is very sad. We may wish we could go back and erase what we know or attempt to get back what was lost, but unfortunately that just cannot happen. God is an incorporeal being and the source of all moral obligations. Losing our innocence is about experiences from the rebellion against God by ourselves or others that cause our spirit to be broken or wounded. In, The God of Nightmares , by Paula Fox we will analysis the loss of innocence and the world of faith destroyed, thus embodying the God of nightmares. Faith is a belief, confidence or trust in a person, object, religion, idea or view. The story opens with Helen s mother having faith that her husband, whom left over ten years earlier would return to her and their daughter, Helen. She never moved on with her life, but maintained the home, herself and Helen as if he was to return. Helen receives a letter from her father s girlfriend letting her know that he is dead. The first moment in the book when faith is shattered and the reality of how others are, comes to fruition. We might have known! Summarize the structure and function of organelles in eukaryotic cells and ways that these organelles interact with each other to perform the function of the cell (must include: the nucleus, plasma membrane, cell wall, mitochondria, vacuoles, chloroplasts and ribosomes). Eukaryotic cells contain many important organelles that have unique structures and functions that interact with each other to perform the essential activities within the cell. The cell wall is a rigid structure made of polysaccharides located outside of the plasma membranes of plants, fungi, and bacteria cells that provide structural support, protection, and filtering mechanism. The mitochondria or powerhouse of the cell, is a double membrane structure with inner layers that fold to form layers called the cristae. The mitochondria use available oxygen to convert chemical energy from food to ATP that the cell can use, through the citric acid or Kreb cycle. The vacuoles are unique vesicles like structures that are found in the cytoplasms of cells and are typically larger to provide structural support for plants than in animal cells. The vacuoles are used to transport materials, isolate harmful materials, and store the essential nutrients, water, and waste. In addition, plant cells also have an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Namely, what I am proposing to do is to remove condition (iii) from Hacking s schema and replace it with a similar concept. Over the course of the early to mid twentieth century both the terms fairy and queer fell out of fashion with the male homosexual community and gay became the most popular self ascription for homosexual men (Brontsema, 2004). Around the mid to late twentieth century queer was primarily used as a derogatory term, levelled at homosexual people in general (Brontsema, 2004). Towards the end of the 1980s some within the LGBT community began to push for the reclamation of the word queer. One such group were Queer Nation an offshoot of the group ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) (Brontsema, 2004). At the 1990 New York Gay Pride the group handed out leaflets headed Queers Read This (QUEERS READ THIS, 1990). In the pamphlet they addressed their use of the term queer saying every gay person has his or her own take on it... for some it means eccentric...and for others queer conjures up those awful memories . But what Queer Nation emphasise is that it should be the gay community who get to decide what the word means; it s a weapon we can steal from the homophobe s hand and use it against him . • 10. Essay on A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, many interesting fantasies occur in a way which brings the reader into a different world. The story switches back and forth from delusion to reality, dragging the reader into a life, perhaps similar to their own. In the beginning of this story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It describes his life as a commander of an aircraft. An intense scene is displayed showing what Walter Mitty wishes would be reality. It is not until the next paragraph that one discovers this reality. The formalistic approach for analyzing this would be most appropriate in order to pick out the elements such as setting, irony, imagery and metaphorical factors. These are organized in such a way that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings because of these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two introductory characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen as a guessing game to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this introduction. Once the setting is described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the reader will grasp an understanding of where these two characters are. However, soon after the reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is interrupted with the dialogue of a new character, Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the basic structure that this story will set forth. The organization of this story goes from what was described in the introductory paragraph as a flashback, to the interrupting dialogue of Mrs. Mitty. As she yells, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Different Ways to Tame a Shrew in Kiss Me Kate and The... There is not only one method to tame a shrew and the movies Kiss Me Kate and The Taming of the Shrew prove that this is true. The question is, which method is more effective, and which method truly succeeds in taming the shrew. To decide which method is the better of the two, the audience has to look deeper into the methods of Fred and Petruchio. They must study the approach of each of the tamers by deciding whether their approach is physical or psychological, honest or deceitful. They must also look at the other methods that each tamer uses and take into account their motives for taming. When all of these aspects are considered, Fred s method of taming is obviously the better of the two because it results in a shrew that has truly been tamed. The methods that Petruchio uses to tame Katerina in the movie The Taming of the Shrew are simply not effective. By the end of the movie the audience has to ask themselves; is Kate actually tamed or is she just putting on an act? Judging by Kate s actions it is easy to see that she is in fact not tamed, and is only trying to please Petruchio. When Kate has her speech about how women should treat their husbands, one gets the impression that it was not very sincere. Just by the tone of her voice it seems that Kate is just saying what Petruchio and the others want to hear. Who can blame her? The characters of Viola and Olivia are used by Shakespeare to explore the position and rights of the female in society, in comparison to their male counterparts. Viola especially is used to illustrate this comparison. Stranded on the shores of Illyria, a land she does not know, with no means of support, and no one to assist her, she devises a plan to dress as a man and seek employment with the Duke Orsino. It is when she is dressed in her male attire, posing as the eunuch Cesario, that comparisons between male and female independence are made. Dressed as a man, the character Viola has freedom as a man that she could not possibly display when she reverts to her female self in act 5 of the play. When dressed as Cesario, Viola is able to speak her mind freely and speak to both Orsino and Olivia, both socially superior to Cesario (but not Viola) as equals, without fear of repercussion, a privilege certainly not extended to women. The Old Testament books are written in many different literary styles such as historical, prophetic, or biographical. Between the Old and New Testaments there were four hundred years during which time books were not written. As the New Testament begins, it starts with four books commonly known as the Gospels. These gospels are a biography of the life and works of Jesus Christ himself. The remainder of the Bible contains mostly letters to various people and churches throughout Asia Minor, Greece, and Italy. These are letters of encouragement to the early churches of the world and many Christians who may have been imprisoned or in captivity in several countries. Still one question that plagues the minds of several modern day Christians is, how did the modern day Bible come to be? The Old Testament had been decided upon long ago. Elders in the Jewish church met and decided 39 different books in all. These books had been written over the span of several centuries and became what is today known as the Old Testament. The New Testament was somewhat similar. During the time shortly after Jesus, there was controversy over the books that were truly from God and those that were not. The early church hierarchy settled this dispute during the second, third and fourth centuries.
