What Does The Glass Slipper Symbolize In Cinderella
In the Old Italian folk tale Cinderella by Giambattista Basile, Cinderella finds that with patience
everything eventually comes together. After Cinderella s father s untimely death, she had no other
option but to live with her evil stepmother and her horrid stepsisters. Cinderella was mistreated and
made to do chores around the house by her stepmother because she could not bear the good qualities
of this pretty girl, and the less because they made her own daughters appear the more odious
(Perrault). She was envied so much Cinderella was not allowed to attend the ball that was made
specifically for the prince to find his princess. With the help of her fairy godmother she was able to
attend the ball and wore the most beautiful dress along with glass slippers. With one dance the prince
had fallen in love, but their moment of happiness was short lived because Cinderella had to flee from
the ball leaving only her glass slipper behind. In this fairy tale, the glass slipper is seen as just this
beautiful and rare shoe but actually symbolizes purity and uniqueness. ... Show more content on

Being that the slipper was made of glass it was transparent, meaning that light can easily pass through

sincerity. Her stepmother and sister s mistreated Cinderella but her attitude never changed. The poor
girl bore it all patiently (Perrault) because she had a very sincere heart and it was filled with hope.

The Obamacare Debate
Ever since announcing his candidacy for the presidency, the now President of the United States of
America, Donald Trump, emerged as an anti Obama regime leader. He vowed that he would scrap off
most of the changes that Obama had made when in the presidency (Rovner Terhune). Some of this
included the same sex marriage legislation and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) which is popularly
known as Obamacare. The Obamacare is a policy that had benefited a lot of people in the United
States, especially those in the middle and lower class factions of the society. They managed to obtain
insurance and were able to access medical care despite the increased costs in service provision.
However, President Trump did not completely do away with the ACA but

result of the 2008 ban on smoking in public places, including bars and restaurants, the 28 percent of
individuals who smoke regularly have resorted to littering as a means of disposing of their used

Objectification Is A Word That Has Many Negative Connotations
Objectification is a word that has many negative connotations. Nussbaum identifies objectification as
a pejorative term, connoting a way of speaking, thinking, and acting that the speaker finds morally or
socially objectionable, usually, though not always, in the sexual realm. Nussbaum s definition is
vague, like many of her other works, and places the connotation of the word itself into the speaker s
own hands. While it is good to allow wiggle room for concepts, an act which allows them to be more
universal for the general public as a whole, because of the long standing connotations associated with
objectification, I believe that the word itself already implies something morally or socially
objectionable, and the speaker s own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am not trying to make Nussbaum seem like a villain, I completely agree with the overarching subject
of her paper, but claims such as women are depicted as beings made for sexual pleasure, are fruitless
when one realizes that sexual pleasure is extremely different for women and men across the world.
According to Nussbaum, objectification can be used... in a more positive spirit [and] it is not only a
slippery, but also a multiple, concept. While I do not disagree with either of these claims directly, I
believe that in an effort to make her understanding of the concept universal to all, Nussbaum s ideas
regarding objectification come off as somewhat robotic and lack the emotion needed when attempting
to understand those who have been objectified. Her entire seven step system that is used to outline
what is and is not objectification, seems to echo her previous work regarding the ten capabilities,
another approach I found to be too generalized and too deeply engrained in Western culture.
Furthermore, much like Nussbaum s capabilities approach, all of the examples she uses

Personalistic and Naturalistic Theory Essay
The study of history enables a society to understand the present better, prevent one from thinking the
past is always better, and aids in the understanding of human nature. Psychology is an ever changing
and evolutionary field. Recent years have presented numerous changes and increasing interest by
many individuals, which have been inspired to help enhance the growth of modern psychology

The personlistic theory does not consider the facts of the historian studies, even though there was

Theme Of Stanley In A Streetcar Named Desire
In A Streetcar Named Desire , the characters of Blanche and Stanley are presented as opposing
characters in the book, and hence a lot of conflict and friction occurs between them. The character of
Blanche is an older character, from a rather wealthy background and lives in a fantasy world in which
she is still young and hasn t faced the truth. The character of Stanley, however, is a more realistic and
primitive character and can be viewed as Blanche s opposite.
Throughout the play, there is a constant battle between Blanche and Stanley for Stella. This is shown
at the beginning of the play when Blanche disapproves of Stella s home and what she is dressed in,

exactly what she is saying or thinking giving the effect that she is insane, not just messing around.

Conquest Of Ai Analysis
The Conquest of Ai Joshua 7:1 9 outlines the initial failed attack on Ai. One possible reading is to say
that the omission of YHWH s voice in the attack is the reason that they were defeated. While there is
some truth that can be extracted from this, I think it s more beneficial to note that the text attributes
this failure to the poor military advice given to Joshua (Joshua 7:3). In addition, it is also helpful to
note the lack of reason given for the Israelites needing to take on Ai. Unlike the two occurrences with
Moses that I have already mentioned, Ai posed to no threat to the Israelites. Unlike Jericho, YHWH
gave no command regarding whether Ai was to be attacked or not. Verses 6 10 show Joshua to fall

Because I think that it is an essential lesson for the nation of the United States to heed. We are now
that military force striking all over the world. We have done it so much that we have masked God s
voice because of our love for military activity. We send people out in his name we bless the work that
soldiers do, including the violence that they enact with others. If the United States is truly 83%
Christian, then I plead for more people to analyze this story of the Israelites and the city of Ai, and that
we learn the lessons clear to us from the text.
Military activity, particularly when it is unwarranted or for a single nation s benefit, silences the voice
of God in a society. The silencing of God allows for people to falsely speak on his behalf. It s
something that we have seen more clearly in modern times through the unrest in the Middle East, but
it has been a part of our culture for a long time now. This activity needs to cease immediately, or we
risk becoming a people who profess a loving God, and yet continually sow destruction and violence
into the world. And what kind of world are we living in, if God cannot even get a word

Factors That Affect Medical Errors
Factors That Can Contribute to Medical Errors When it comes to health care and mistakes;
consequences could be as minor as a rash to as major as loss of life. Making prevention a true part of
care or cure, is to the most benefit to hospitals. Identification of the factors which lead to human error
and implement procedures in order reduce serious mistakes is the top priority within governmental
health care settings. In the health care there are several defenses in place that must fail in order for a
detrimental or life threatening events to happen. Failure of these mechanism that impedes in harmful
outcomes is known as a near miss. There are several factors that result in these mistakes. Human error
is the greatest risk factor. The American health care delivery system is in need of fundamental change,
(Reiling, 2007, p. 11). With human error being the number one reason for medical mistakes there are
six factors within two specific categories that research has linked to human errors in medical care.
Individual factors, the responsibility of the caregiver and environmental factors, the responsibility of
the hospital are the two categories in which the six factors are found. The three factors within the
category of responsibility of the caregiver are fatigue, emotional stress, and multitasking. The primary
factor is fatigue. Sleep deprivation results in caregivers error prone judgement and can be compared to
the same as a driver s performance that is under the influence

Solution Focused Family Therapy Essay
Solution focused family therapy strategy is to articulate goals directly to discover what works in a

family members, and with teachers prior to the encountered problems? The counselor or therapist has
several theoretical approaches that can be used and applied in the treatment process as well. In the
words of Yarhouse, he indicates, The philosophical assumptions underlying solution focused family

The Foundation Of The Roman Culture Essay
Nathaniel Spina HIST 103 T/R 3:50 5:15 History Question #2 Question 1 The foundation of the
Roman culture had a strong Etruscan influence due to their taking control of Rome circa 650 BC. The
Etruscans transformed Rome into an actual, functioning city through urban planning and civil
engineering projects. Although the Etruscans were hostile in their take over, the Romans would not
have accomplished what they did alone. It was not until circa 500 BC that Rome successfully shook
off Etruscan rule. Once they were free, the Romans established a republic, a form of government also
to be used by many countries later. Rome set up a constitution consisting of a senate, consuls and
tribunes. The Roman senate became the most powerful governing body. Rather than advising the head
of state, it elected the chief executives, called consuls. Consuls were ordinary magistrates that had the
authority to command a military force. Tribune was a title given to various officers within the Roman
army. Rome waged war on its neighboring cities. In order to defend themselves against the Etruscan
cities, the cities of Latium allied to defend each other in an alliance called the Latin League.
Eventually, the Romans were able to conquer their most dangerous early rival, the city of Veii.
However, they were setback soon after when the Gauls sacked Rome. After the sack, the Romans
recovered and continued their conquests with a bigger, better army. Rome and the Latin League next

Descartes Sixth Meditation Summary
Rene Descartes Sixth Meditation
Of the Existence of Material Things, and the Real Distinction between Mind and Body
Lesley McLaughlin
April 16th, 2018
Professor Ian Gerrie
GPHL 110 GNC
In Descartes Sixth Meditation he examines the objective reality of material things and the difference
between the mind and the body. Descartes approaches the mind and body as two entirely distinct
entities that function in close relation, yet independent of one another. In this Descartes refers to
himself as a thinking thing (Moriarty, 2008, p. 55) in which he is referring to a thing that has doubts,
hopes, will, wants, beliefs, dreams, and all other mental abilities. Descartes argues that the body, as a
whole, works closely with the mind; however, it is something that is only an extended thing and not a
thinking thing... and [he] can exist without it. (Moriarty, 2008, p. 55) Descartes suggests that he, or his
mind, is an essance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then explains further that he sees the mind as a thinking thing and not an extended thing (Moriarty,
2008, p. 55) and the body as an extended and not a thinking thing (Moriarty, 2008, p. 55) Thus, the
mind is an entity that is entirely separate from the body; they are two exclusive things. Specifically,
the mind can live without the body.
Imagination and sensation are methods of thought, of which Descartes can manage without and so,
they are not essential to him. He also determines that neither of these methods could exist without a
substance to retain them; imagination and sensation could not exist without the mind or the body.
Descartes explains his confused feelings surrounding hunger, pain, etc. stating that as a result of their
union they conflict, causing a sense of confusion within the

Key Requirements For A Successful Vm Implementation Essay
There are several important additional requirements for a successful VM implementation ( Jaapar,. et
al. 2012). First, unwavering and visible support from top management is an absolute prerequisite for
the success of a VM program. Second, it is imperative that all stakeholders (investors, end users,
project team, the owner, constructors/manufacturers, designers, specialist suppliers, etc.) be involved
in the process, especially during the VP and VE stages. The extent of their involvement depends on
the level and stage of the value management process, as well as the person responsible for VM
procedures. Third, in larger or more complex projects, an independent/external value manager is
needed, as well as an external team with relevant design and technical expertise. Projects that are
highly complex are simply too challenging or massively complex to enable one individual to conduct
all VM analyses herself. It is important to ensure that when a value manager is appointed to oversee a
project, he is afforded the cooperation of all stakeholders. In the case of smaller projects, VM might be
undertaken by the sponsor s professional adviser or project manager and, in some cases, an external
professional. However, when establishing a structure for dealing with value for money on projects,
there may be a need for expert assistance, particularly at the review stages. Fourth, because each
project is different, there is no single correct approach to VM. However, there are a

Graduating from the physical, however, that up downing, drop rising (p. 152) of her bottom, Aldrick

we were not at the pool we were lying in bed watching movies. This was the happiest I had ever been.
We were all just genuinely happy. Towards the end of the summer, Kat, Sam and I were hanging out a
lot more and starting to keep our distance from Jo. Once school started the three of us really started
hanging out a lot more and we had our own group message. We never saw Jo any more because none
of us had classes with her. Soon she started to notice and would just text us things like missing you
guys and we need to hang out, I feel like we never talk anymore. Us three would always give her one
word responses and never really show interest. Even though we

The Dehumanization Of Women In Joseph Heller s Catch-22
During the early 1900 s up until recent history, women have been treated through the lenses of men.
Heller s satirical Catch 22 tries to clean this lense, by overly showing the dehumanization of women.
Through sex, and objectification, Heller is able to point out the problems in our own society. At the
end of the novel, Heller contrasts these persistent themes with the men s humanity, and he is able to
make us want change in our society. Through prostitution, and the general use of women for sex,
Heller paints a vivid reflection of society. The maid with the lime panties is one of Heller s most
obvious commentaries. Her entire role in the book is to be of service to the men. Her allure stemmed
from her accessibility; like Mt. Everest, she was there, and the men climbed on top of her each time
they felt the urge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides the objectification that comes with prostitution, Heller finds more clever ways to subliminally
push this on us. Everybody falls in love, it is human nature, but when Nately falls in love with his
acquaintance he is made to look like a fool. People do not really understand how he could fall in love
with someone who to them is an object. Captain Black even pays for sex with her just out of spite for
Nately. At the end of the novel we see that Nately s girlfriend is more than just an object, and even
capable of love. Most readers don t catch this, but Heller makes her human to show that these women
have more to them. The reader only gets a glimpse of these women, and from the perspective of men
at war. Heller makes Nately s girlfriend a person at the end of the novel to show the reader that behind
her job, she is a real person. Another low key way in which Heller portrays his message is with the use
of names. Heller keeps almost all of the women in Rome nameless because it portrays that they are not

Agamemnon And Achilles Essay
You Reap What You Sow: Honor Received from Hard Work as a Value of the Heroic Outlook on Life
in Homer s The Iliad
The Iliad, by Homer, is an epic poem set in the era of the Trojan War, accounting the battle logs during
the time of conflict between Agamemnon and Achilles, the text s tragic protagonist. The heroic
outlook on life, in Iliadic terms, is exemplified through the construction of one s honor through hard
work. Being an aspect of the heroic outlook of life, this value is demonstrated through his contribution
and dedication to the Trojan War, his experience with neglect from the deities, Achilles overall disdain
towards Agamemnon, and, lastly, his longingness towards Briseis, his dear lover.
Honor can be demonstrated as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason why Achilles honor is determined by Zeus is because Achilles feels that since he has a
short lifespan, Zeus should give him honor to make his contributions during the war in a short period
of time worthwhile. However, Achilles is currently neglected by Zeus as the God of Gods gives the
Swift Runner nothing , after all his achievements made during the war, feeling mistreated and denied
of honor as the best of Achaeans , the hero of the Argives. This implies how Achilles, as a hero, values
his achievements and contributions as something worthy of honor, building blocks that constructs his
honor not only among men but also the gods. In short, having the deities blessing honor onto a hero is
a extravagant recognition to them, meaning that the hard work the hero puts in is greatly appreciated
and honored, even by the gods, therefore considered a heroic outlook on life.
Referring to the first claim once again, Achilles overall disdain towards Agamemnon shows how
unheroic characters tend to be the opposite, solidifying the idea that a hero should be contributing with
their hard work to gain honor. Achilles describes Agamemnon s contribution to the war to be minimal,
seeing the Lord of Men skulking behind the lines, /safe in his fast ships (Il.9.402 03; Fagles 262).
While Agamemnon s contribution is meek, he is the one who would take it all, /[parceling] out some
scraps but [keeping] the lion s share (Il.9.403 04; Fagles 262),

Heroism And Villains In Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of...
How Reader Positioning Techniques are used to depict Heroism and Villains in the Children s Books;
Matilda and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban .
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to determine how reader positioning such as characterisation and point of
view, can help depict heroes and villains within a text. Children s literature includes a variety of text
such as picture books, stories, novels, poems and magazines that are greatly enjoyed by children. This
is generalised through the appropriate genres aimed for younger readers or the envisioned age range
(Lukens et al 2010, p. 6 8).
The influence of literature techniques such as reader positioning plays a massive influence on how
viewers conceive certain characters within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due to the overpowering thoughts and feelings of the narrator s broad outlook, narrowing the
experience of the reader. This restriction placed on individuals make it hard to relate and form a bond
with the protagonist, limiting the connection between the narrator and the reader (Papazian. G, 2010).
This can mean pushing certain values or opposing socially dominant ones, depending on the writer
(Stephens 1992, p.3 9). This is attributable to the impersonal and objective point of view, making it
hard for readers to determine what type of person the character is.
Conclusion
J.K Rowling and Roald Dahl both successfully use literary techniques derived from reader
positioning, expressing to readers on how to identify heroes and villains. This is achieved through
point of view and characterisation of the protagonists and the antagonists. Limitations show that this
can indeed be overlooked and in turn can ultimately backfire on the narrator. This leads to the speaker
being incapable of providing personal information about themselves, making it difficult for readers to
describe what kind of individual the narrator is due to the omniscient and objective

Chief Executive Officer and Ethics Program
HRDV 3330 10SU12 1. Imagine that it s your responsibility to select an ethics officer for your
organization. What qualities, background, and experience would you look for? Why? I would look for
someone who has excellent ethics. A candidate would be someone who looks at the letter of the law
when developing guidelines and knows what the industry standard is for those guidelines. Someone
who can sees both sides of an issue. A specific background is not needed for this position. Knowledge
of the specific business can sometimes be important, as is a working familiarity with key operational,

year we receive employee surveys that ask if we are satisfied with the ethics program that is in place.
9. How would you raise an ethical concern in this organization? List all of the resources available.
Which ones would you/they likely use? Why or why not? I would use the hotline since it is
anonymous. Other ways an ethical concern can be raised is through one s supervisor, the HR liaison in
the dept., or by going straight to the HR department. 10. Imagine that you re the CEO of a small
manufacturing company. An employee has dumped toxic waste in a nearby stream. What would you
do? Who would you call into your office and what would you want to know? Develop a short term
and long term action plan for dealing with the crisis. Who would you communicate with and why? I
would fire the employee immediately. I would question his supervisors and co workers to see how and
why it was done. The plan would be to seek out legal counsel, then to see if this is the sort of thing
that our insurance company would pay to correct. I would be proactive and clean the damage in the
short term and also correct any wrongs that the dumping caused. Long term, I would start a more strict

Jazz vs. Rock: Focusing on the Differences in Instrumentation, Rhythm, and Difficulty
Jazz emerged in New Orleans around 1900. Largely admired by the black communities at first, Jazz
attracted a more diverse audience as it spread. Years later, Rock surfaced and began to take over the
world. Although rock was related to Jazz early on, it quickly veered off into its own direction
specifically during the post war era. Currently, commonalities exist between the two genres, however
the differences in instrumentation, rhythm, and difficulty are the focal points that separate one from
the other.
Jazz bands started with violin, guitar, string bass, and sometimes a wind instrument. ... Show more

Branching into its own genre, rock adopted hard hitting notes using electric guitars, drums, and bass
with lyrics that for some became the defining aspect of rock music. The rhythm is known to be slower
and more regular offering the audience a chance to dance. Elton John was a rock icon with lyrics that
were understood and made you want to move. Crocodile Rock is a prime example of easily
understood lyrics and a rhythm that made you dance: ...while the other kids were rocking round the
clock, we were hopping and bopping to the crocodile rock. The strong pulse allowed even the most
rhythmically challenged to follow along. Lastly, Rock is easier to play due to arranged music and a
lack of collective improvisation. Rock doesn t require much concentration but rather encourages the
audience to let go and have a good time.
To conclude, rock was closely related to jazz music in its start. As time went on, the movement to
electric guitar, drums, and bass led rock on its own path. Even today, rock continues to dominate the
world. Jazz has taken a seat in the background but still is alive in areas such as New Orleans. No
matter the differences, music is needed to get us from one day to the next. Jazz and rock both have the
power to motivate and inspire anybody it touches. As Louis Armstrong says, If it wasn t for jazz, there
never would have been rock n

The Importance Of Multicarrier Techniques For A Single...
Chapter 1 Multicarrier techniques
This section deals with the importance of multicarrier techniques.
1.1 Multi carrier techniques
In a single carrier system, single fade causes the whole data stream and undergo distortion i.e
frequency selective fading. The Single carrier systems also suffer with heavy Inter Symbol
Interference . In telecommunication Inter Symbol Interference was a form of distortion of signal in
which one symbol interferes with the subsequent symbol. Thus it causes an unwanted phenomena as
the previous symbols have similar effect as noise thus making communication less reliable . ISI occurs
when the signal bandwidth is less than the coherence bandwidth or when the delay spread is greater
than symbol duration. To combat the problem multicarrier techniques have been proposed for high
data rate transmission. Multicarrier techniques divide the whole bandwidth into large number of
narrow band orthogonal subcarriers [1, 2]. Thus the signal bandwidth becomes very less compared
with coherence bandwidth ensuring no ISI in time domain and flat fading in frequency domain.
Multicarrier systems such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and Multi Carrier
Code Division Multiple Access (MC CDMA) were considered to be the best technologies for 4G
wireless communication [1, 2]. Fig. explains the spectrum of multicarrier and single carrier systems.
In the single carrier system the information symbols are loaded into one of

Erwin Rommel s Impact On The World War I
Erwin Rommel was born on November 15, 1981 into a simple middle class southern German family.
Erwin Rommel would enter into military service during 1910 as an officer cadet. He saw his first
action in World War I where he began to show his natural ability as a leader and start his illustrious
career, which peaks during World War II. Erwin Rommel would find himself revered and respected by
Hitler as one of his top generals. He would die before the defeat of Germany on October 15, 1944 and
his death would be shrouded in controversy. During his military career he established that he was an
excellent tactician and respected by his troops and even his enemies. Erwin Rommel was born into a
family that had no established military tradition joined the German military in 1910. He would enter
as an officer cadet and his first assignment was to the 124th Wurttemberg Infantry Regiment. World
War I broke out and Erwin Rommel would find himself serving in France, Romania, and Italy. He
gained notability with his senior officers during the Battle of Caporetto for his innovative tactics used
during the battle. Erwin Rommel quickly established himself as a competent leader as a lieutenant and
frontline infantry officer. Unlike his fellow officers, he declined advancement to the general staff,
which was common practice to remain with his men on the front line. This dedication to leading on
the frontline would result in Erwin Rommel being wounded two separate times during combat.

Participatory Action Research And Explanation
In the reviewed literature, a case is made for participatory action research and explanation given on its
composition and on how it enhances the quality of research (Greenwood et al, 1993). They define
participatory action research as a type of research that brings together a member of the organization
(insider) and an expert research to carry out the research process.
Gibbons et al (1994) talks about the knowledge production mode as well as a number of author later
(Huff and Huff, 2001; Huff, 2000; Starky and Madan, 2001; Tranfield and Starky, 1998). The
definition is articulated into traditional or mode 1 (pursuit of scientific truths), and interactive or mode
2 (production of knowledge by application) (Huff, 2000). Mode 3 and mode 1.5 is also referenced by
Huff (2000). It is worth noting that no specific mode fit my organization exactly: I see a lot of mode 2
as management wants to solve problems quickly to reduce loss.
In the problem solving process, innovations (their spread or lack of spread), pro innovation biases, and
their influencers will be encountered. From review literature, Abrahamson (1991) teaches us how to
handle these and how to prevent pro innovation biases by using a matrix and rejecting assumptions.
Critically reflecting on my wicked problem, some thoughts were investigated and in some cases
evidence: these were reviewed.
First to consider is if a metaphor (or school of thought) can adequately represent the totality of our
organizational life. This

used to enhance business processes in so many ways and can do a lot of work.
Not only business processes within an organization but also the way people work, obtain and share
information. ICT is very important in businesses.

By using TPS, information is easily available and helps managers to monitor operations within
organization. Information systems must be computerized in order to improve efficiency and
effectiveness in an organization. So, TPS are also computerized. (Valacich Schneider, 2014).
For example, At DHL Company, a world leader in logistics, they have a computerized information
system that helps clients worldwide to track their shipment and also helps the managers at DHL to
control all activities and processes with the organization. If a client asks information or an inquiry
such as where does my package reach? The staff in charge at DHL will be able to easily find
information and respond to the client due to a computerized system. This supports the operational
level of management.
Second, we have management Information Systems. This type of information systems supports
management level of an organization and it gives them a customized reports and ability to analyze the
performance of an organization. With MIS, an organization can predict the outcome of processes and
they can easily manage the information that is made by the TPS. (Valacich Schneider,

How Does Shakespeare Make A Good Character In Romeo And...
To have a good play their must be good characters. Throughout Romeo and Juliet, the characters make
choices and decisions to make the plot more interesting. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet,
Shakespeare uses juxtaposition, paradoxes, and oxymoron to make his characters more complex and
meaningful in their actions and their personality
Juliet, the daughter of Lord and Lady Capulet, is sheltered by her family, making her naive. Because
Juliet does not know much about people, she only judges people from what she sees on the outside.
Juliet says, Was ever book containing such vile matter/ so fairly bound? (3.2.83 84). Since Juliet is so
kept away from most of society, she has bad judgement of people from lack of experience. Romeo, in

Nussbaum identifies objectification as a pejorative term, connoting a way of speaking, thinking, and acting that the speaker finds morally or socially objectionable, usually, though not always, in the sexual realm. Nussbaum s definition is vague, like many of her other works, and places the connotation of the word itself into the speaker s own hands. While it is good to allow wiggle room for concepts, an act which allows them to be more universal for the general public as a whole, because of the long standing connotations associated with objectification, I believe that the word itself already implies something morally or socially objectionable, and the speaker s own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am not trying to make Nussbaum seem like a villain, I completely agree with the overarching subject of her paper, but claims such as women are depicted as beings made for sexual pleasure, are fruitless when one realizes that sexual pleasure is extremely different for women and men across the world. According to Nussbaum, objectification can be used... in a more positive spirit [and] it is not only a slippery, but also a multiple, concept. While I do not disagree with either of these claims directly, I believe that in an effort to make her understanding of the concept universal to all, Nussbaum s ideas regarding objectification come off as somewhat robotic and lack the emotion needed when attempting to understand those who have been objectified. Her entire seven step system that is used to outline what is and is not objectification, seems to echo her previous work regarding the ten capabilities, another approach I found to be too generalized and too deeply engrained in Western culture. Furthermore, much like Nussbaum s capabilities approach, all of the examples she uses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The character of Stanley, however, is a more realistic and primitive character and can be viewed as Blanche s opposite. • 14. Conquest Of Ai Analysis The Conquest of Ai Joshua 7:1 9 outlines the initial failed attack on Ai. One possible reading is to say that the omission of YHWH s voice in the attack is the reason that they were defeated. While there is some truth that can be extracted from this, I think it s more beneficial to note that the text attributes this failure to the poor military advice given to Joshua (Joshua 7:3). In addition, it is also helpful to note the lack of reason given for the Israelites needing to take on Ai. Unlike the two occurrences with Moses that I have already mentioned, Ai posed to no threat to the Israelites. Unlike Jericho, YHWH gave no command regarding whether Ai was to be attacked or not. If the United States is truly 83% Christian, then I plead for more people to analyze this story of the Israelites and the city of Ai, and that we learn the lessons clear to us from the text. Military activity, particularly when it is unwarranted or for a single nation s benefit, silences the voice of God in a society. The silencing of God allows for people to falsely speak on his behalf. It s something that we have seen more clearly in modern times through the unrest in the Middle East, but it has been a part of our culture for a long time now. Making prevention a true part of care or cure, is to the most benefit to hospitals. Identification of the factors which lead to human error and implement procedures in order reduce serious mistakes is the top priority within governmental health care settings. • 17. The Foundation Of The Roman Culture Essay Nathaniel Spina HIST 103 T/R 3:50 5:15 History Question #2 Question 1 The foundation of the Roman culture had a strong Etruscan influence due to their taking control of Rome circa 650 BC. The Etruscans transformed Rome into an actual, functioning city through urban planning and civil engineering projects. Although the Etruscans were hostile in their take over, the Romans would not have accomplished what they did alone. It was not until circa 500 BC that Rome successfully shook off Etruscan rule. Once they were free, the Romans established a republic, a form of government also to be used by many countries later. Rome set up a constitution consisting of a senate, consuls and tribunes. The Roman senate became the most powerful governing body. Rather than advising the head of state, it elected the chief executives, called consuls. Consuls were ordinary magistrates that had the authority to command a military force. Tribune was a title given to various officers within the Roman army. Rome waged war on its neighboring cities. In order to defend themselves against the Etruscan cities, the cities of Latium allied to defend each other in an alliance called the Latin League. Eventually, the Romans were able to conquer their most dangerous early rival, the city of Veii. However, they were setback soon after when the Gauls sacked Rome. • 18. Descartes Sixth Meditation Summary Rene Descartes Sixth Meditation Of the Existence of Material Things, and the Real Distinction between Mind and Body Lesley McLaughlin April 16th, 2018 Professor Ian Gerrie GPHL 110 GNC In Descartes Sixth Meditation he examines the objective reality of material things and the difference between the mind and the body. Descartes approaches the mind and body as two entirely distinct entities that function in close relation, yet independent of one another. In this Descartes refers to himself as a thinking thing (Moriarty, 2008, p. 55) in which he is referring to a thing that has doubts, hopes, will, wants, beliefs, dreams, and all other mental abilities. Descartes argues that the body, as a whole, works closely with the mind; however, it is something that is only an extended thing and not a thinking thing... and [he] can exist without it. Specifically, the mind can live without the body. Imagination and sensation are methods of thought, of which Descartes can manage without and so, they are not essential to him. He also determines that neither of these methods could exist without a substance to retain them; imagination and sensation could not exist without the mind or the body. • 19. Key Requirements For A Successful Vm Implementation Essay There are several important additional requirements for a successful VM implementation ( Jaapar,. et al. 2012). First, unwavering and visible support from top management is an absolute prerequisite for the success of a VM program. Second, it is imperative that all stakeholders (investors, end users, project team, the owner, constructors/manufacturers, designers, specialist suppliers, etc.) be involved in the process, especially during the VP and VE stages. The extent of their involvement depends on the level and stage of the value management process, as well as the person responsible for VM procedures. Third, in larger or more complex projects, an independent/external value manager is needed, as well as an external team with relevant design and technical expertise. Projects that are highly complex are simply too challenging or massively complex to enable one individual to conduct all VM analyses herself. It is important to ensure that when a value manager is appointed to oversee a project, he is afforded the cooperation of all stakeholders. In the case of smaller projects, VM might be undertaken by the sponsor s professional adviser or project manager and, in some cases, an external professional. However, when establishing a structure for dealing with value for money on projects, there may be a need for expert assistance, particularly at the review stages. Fourth, because each project is different, there is no single correct approach to VM. However, there are a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The author,Earl Lovelace, allows even the non indigenous reader to understand, to feel the physical and psychological realities of poverty stricken Calvary Hill every sweet, twisting, hurting ache (p. 133) more intensely , more completely, through his use of paradox. Indeed, oxymorons pepper the pages of his novel, challenging our habits of thought and provoking us into seeking another sense or context in which these self contradictions may be resolved into truths, truths that are clearly universal yet at the same time inseparable from the combined colour and squalor of post World War II Trinidadian life. Graduating from the physical, however, that up downing, drop rising (p. 152) of her bottom, Aldrick will come to realize that her very desirability placed her above ordinary desiring (p. 229), the mere ownership which Guy intends, and it is at carnival that he first glimpses the future that they might share, how he might paradoxically lose himself and gain himself in her, swirling away with her until together they disappeared into the self that she was calling back, calling forth (p. 141). Echoing the Indian, Pariag, and Philo the Calypsonian, Aldrick begins to desire to simply live and love and grow, which is exactly why he has always loved Sylvia: her beauty was not a weapon, but a declaration of a faith in life and a promise of life (p. 228). He alone realizes the paradox that Sylvia is both illuminated and doomed by that aura (p. 229) of inner sainted beauty which Guy threatens to suppress by effectively sequestering her in a new home in Diego Martin. • 22. The Dehumanization Of Women In Joseph Heller s Catch-22 During the early 1900 s up until recent history, women have been treated through the lenses of men. Heller s satirical Catch 22 tries to clean this lense, by overly showing the dehumanization of women. Through sex, and objectification, Heller is able to point out the problems in our own society. At the end of the novel, Heller contrasts these persistent themes with the men s humanity, and he is able to make us want change in our society. Through prostitution, and the general use of women for sex, Heller paints a vivid reflection of society. The maid with the lime panties is one of Heller s most obvious commentaries. Her entire role in the book is to be of service to the men. Her allure stemmed from her accessibility; like Mt. Everest, she was there, and the men climbed on top of her each time they felt the urge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Besides the objectification that comes with prostitution, Heller finds more clever ways to subliminally push this on us. At the end of the novel we see that Nately s girlfriend is more than just an object, and even capable of love. Most readers don t catch this, but Heller makes her human to show that these women have more to them. The reader only gets a glimpse of these women, and from the perspective of men at war. Heller makes Nately s girlfriend a person at the end of the novel to show the reader that behind her job, she is a real person. Agamemnon And Achilles Essay You Reap What You Sow: Honor Received from Hard Work as a Value of the Heroic Outlook on Life in Homer s The Iliad The Iliad, by Homer, is an epic poem set in the era of the Trojan War, accounting the battle logs during the time of conflict between Agamemnon and Achilles, the text s tragic protagonist. The heroic outlook on life, in Iliadic terms, is exemplified through the construction of one s honor through hard work. Being an aspect of the heroic outlook of life, this value is demonstrated through his contribution and dedication to the Trojan War, his experience with neglect from the deities, Achilles overall disdain towards Agamemnon, and, lastly, his longingness towards Briseis, his dear lover. Honor can be demonstrated as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason why Achilles honor is determined by Zeus is because Achilles feels that since he has a short lifespan, Zeus should give him honor to make his contributions during the war in a short period of time worthwhile. However, Achilles is currently neglected by Zeus as the God of Gods gives the Swift Runner nothing , after all his achievements made during the war, feeling mistreated and denied of honor as the best of Achaeans , the hero of the Argives. This implies how Achilles, as a hero, values his achievements and contributions as something worthy of honor, building blocks that constructs his honor not only among men but also the gods. In short, having the deities blessing honor onto a hero is a extravagant recognition to them, meaning that the hard work the hero puts in is greatly appreciated and honored, even by the gods, therefore considered a heroic outlook on life. Referring to the first claim once again, Achilles overall disdain towards Agamemnon shows how unheroic characters tend to be the opposite, solidifying the idea that a hero should be contributing with their hard work to gain honor. How Reader Positioning Techniques are used to depict Heroism and Villains in the Children s Books; Matilda and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban . Introduction The purpose of this report is to determine how reader positioning such as characterisation and point of view, can help depict heroes and villains within a text. Children s literature includes a variety of text such as picture books, stories, novels, poems and magazines that are greatly enjoyed by children. This is generalised through the appropriate genres aimed for younger readers or the envisioned age range (Lukens et al 2010, p. 6 8). The influence of literature techniques such as reader positioning plays a massive influence on how viewers conceive certain characters within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is due to the overpowering thoughts and feelings of the narrator s broad outlook, narrowing the experience of the reader. This restriction placed on individuals make it hard to relate and form a bond with the protagonist, limiting the connection between the narrator and the reader (Papazian. G, 2010). This can mean pushing certain values or opposing socially dominant ones, depending on the writer (Stephens 1992, p.3 9). This is attributable to the impersonal and objective point of view, making it hard for readers to determine what type of person the character is. Conclusion J.K Rowling and Roald Dahl both successfully use literary techniques derived from reader positioning, expressing to readers on how to identify heroes and villains. This is achieved through point of view and characterisation of the protagonists and the antagonists. Limitations show that this can indeed be overlooked and in turn can ultimately backfire on the narrator. This leads to the speaker being incapable of providing personal information about themselves, making it difficult for readers to describe what kind of individual the narrator is due to the omniscient and objective ... Although rock was related to Jazz early on, it quickly veered off into its own direction specifically during the post war era. Crocodile Rock is a prime example of easily understood lyrics and a rhythm that made you dance: ...while the other kids were rocking round the clock, we were hopping and bopping to the crocodile rock. The strong pulse allowed even the most rhythmically challenged to follow along. Lastly, Rock is easier to play due to arranged music and a lack of collective improvisation. As time went on, the movement to electric guitar, drums, and bass led rock on its own path. Even today, rock continues to dominate the world. • 28. The Importance Of Multicarrier Techniques For A Single... Chapter 1 Multicarrier techniques This section deals with the importance of multicarrier techniques. 1.1 Multi carrier techniques In a single carrier system, single fade causes the whole data stream and undergo distortion i.e frequency selective fading. The Single carrier systems also suffer with heavy Inter Symbol Interference . In telecommunication Inter Symbol Interference was a form of distortion of signal in which one symbol interferes with the subsequent symbol. Thus it causes an unwanted phenomena as the previous symbols have similar effect as noise thus making communication less reliable . ISI occurs when the signal bandwidth is less than the coherence bandwidth or when the delay spread is greater than symbol duration. To combat the problem multicarrier techniques have been proposed for high data rate transmission. Multicarrier techniques divide the whole bandwidth into large number of narrow band orthogonal subcarriers [1, 2]. Thus the signal bandwidth becomes very less compared with coherence bandwidth ensuring no ISI in time domain and flat fading in frequency domain. Multicarrier systems such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and Multi Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC CDMA) were considered to be the best technologies for 4G wireless communication [1, 2]. Fig. explains the spectrum of multicarrier and single carrier systems. In the single carrier system the information symbols are loaded into one of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
