The Brave, Condemned, And Wicked
Armani Astudillo Mrs. Segovia Theory Report 07 March 2017 The brave, condemned, and wicked
The advancement of technology does not imply the enhancement of humanity , within A Brave
New World , by Aldous Huxley, shows a world in which individuality is stripped and replaced by
uniformity which can be shown best in the John the savage . Perception has its way of fitting
people s circumstances to fit their complex, and in its entirety that s what this dystopian novel is
about. Human emotion is replaced with universal thinking and the corruption of one s sense of self
to the point where civilization has a hive mind complex. Community,Identity,Stability (5) are the

That through this way of living, happiness is achieved and the problems of the world are gone...
though this may be true, the happiness that is talked about within chapter 4 be lenina, there s
one thing we can be certain of; whoever he may have been, he was happy when he was alive.
Everybody s happy now. Yes, everybody s happy now, echoed Lenina. They had heard the words
repeated a hundred and fifty times every night for twelve years. Through The advancements in
science, and essentially shaping their minds, their happiness is simply a facade due to their lack
of understanding. This was Huxley s purpose when creating John, he was the perfect contrast for
such structural behavior. When corrupted by the new world the piece john lost that was most
important was his belief in his happiness, the happiness that was brought upon by the likes of
shakespeare and the world he knew. Another key component of John s conception as a character
was his sexual desires.. As introduced at the beginning of the novel, Soma ( paraphernalia) (56) is
used as a numbing agent, a pill that rids oneself of control and releases their natural, yet enhanced
sexual desires. Engaged in orgy porgy they lose control of themselves and suddenly nothing else

Home Depot is credited with having revolutionized the American home improvement industry.
Since the recession, the company has witnessed phenomenal growth with the stock price
growing by over 270% in the last five years alone. With services encompassing Do It Yourself,
Do It For Me, and Professional (Pro) customers, Home Depot has managed to carve its way to
being the industry leader with an ~27% share. In this note, we analyze Home Depot s business
using the SWOT analysis to assess Home Depot s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats. Using this, we look at what might be in store for Home Depot going forward. Trefis
Team, Oct 6, 2015 Strengths Leadership: Home Depot s top strength lies in its leadership. In
spite of being highly dependent on macroeconomic factors for success, the retailer managed to
stand its ground during the recession. When revenues were declining at an annual rate of 7 8%
between 2008 and 2010, Home Depot did not let EPS numbers dip below the $1.37 figure that
was recorded in fiscal 2008. Home Depot s focus on cost saving and productivity enhancing
strategies under the leadership of former CEO Frank Blake was instrumental in seeing the company

Andrea Palladio
Introduction: Figure ( 1): Andrea Palladio
Usually, those whom non specialists in the field of Architecture and Decoration and Design, do
not care so much about details they see in the buildings. However, the average person can, for
example, notes that all over the place or city is characterized by the nature of a particular architect.
But that s as far as could care about the person who does not have the competence on architecture

Athletes are paid fairly You know raising a family in the life of a professional athlete can be very
difficult Robin Yount. Professional athletes are away from their family a lot and they deserve to
be paid what they earn. Athletes have to pay taxes. Athletes have to pay taxes in every state they
play in. Also, they have to pay for where they go when they play. For example, the chicago cubs
played from April to October and traveled non stop. Think about how much money that is. Overall,
athletes have to pay a lot during their season and they need the money for that. Athletes give back.

Essay about Stages of Spinal Cord Injury Research
(THIS WAS AN INFORMATIVE SPEECH I DID FOR MY COM220 CLASS ON THE STAGES
OF SPINAL CORD INJURY RESEARCH. IT ACTED AS AN INTRODUCTION TO MY
PERSUASIVE SPEECH ON THE BENEFITS OF STEM CELL RESEARCH)
There are about a quarter of a million people in the United States living with spinal cord injuries.
In addition, between 7,600 and 10,000 new injuries occur each year. Nearly half of these new
injuries will occur in young people between the ages of 16 and 30. As a person in this category, I
have become very interested in the research to find a cure for spinal cord injuries and hope to share
some of the information I found with you today. In order for you to fully understand the details I

As you can see from this graph, 66% of sports injuries occur in the form of diving accidents, while
I am part of the 3.8% of snow skiing accidents.
Now that I have shared a brief overview of the spinal cord and some statistics about spinal cord
injuries, we will look at the past research that has led to the treatments most commonly used today.
In 1990, a steroid called dexamethasone was discovered in human trials to preserve some motor
and sensory function if administered at high doses within 8 hours of injury. Surgery used to
remove fluid, tissue, or bone fragments, or to stabilize fractured vertebrae by fusing bones or
inserting hardware has also proven to be one of the most thorough measures to prevent further harm.
I received both of these treatments after my accident, and they are the same that have been used for
the past decade. Until recently, doctors had no way of limiting such disabilities, aside from
stabilizing the cord to prevent added destruction, treating infections, and prescribing rehabilitative
therapy to maximize any remaining capabilities.
Within the past few years, however, scientists have made many new advancements. The United
States Food and Drug Administration has approved 2 electronic systems that regulate muscles by
sending electrical signals through implanted wires, called functional electrical stimulation (FES).
Some proteins have been found to promote nerve growth and restore limb function and sensation
when administered directly

The rise of crude oil has also effected the sales of trucks. With comapnays no buying or spending
as much on a truck has hurt the econonmy. High desiel prices are a consequence of capitalism. As
all fuel prices have been going up people are blaming the federal govenerment. They believe the
president has influence of derterming the outcomes of tensions betwwen Israel and Iran. Some
people blame incrased prices based on fears around the world. It all comes down to one thing to
blame, capitalism. Calitalism can be great to an economic system because of its emphasis on
efficienc and inbradible success rate at allowing those who control the means of production and
resources to meet the demands of those with purchasing power. Capitalism is constantly evolveing
and will impact the gap between current and future goals on oil prices.
The top five Oil and Gas companies are: Saudi Aramco, Gazprom, National Iranian Oil
Company, ExxonMobil and PetroChina. These company work together by using some sort of
scare tatic in order to raise fuel prices. Take ExxonMobil for example, these companys have

The Tale Of The Book Enchanted
If there was a single word in the entire English language that could aptly describe the total
encompassing sensation Olivia felt possessing her entire being, it was enchanted. Never before
had someone like this stranger completely captivated her wholly, at least no one who was alive.
Yet as she stood before him breathlessly admiring his brilliant jade orbs, the young woman had

Steven Spielberg s Jaws And Jurassic Park
Steven Spielberg is a director who has made many movies including Jaws (1975) and Jurassic Park
(1993). Both Jaws and Jurassic Park show animals behaving in the way that nature intended them to
behave. However, in Jaws the animal finds himself trapped in an unnatural environment, an inlet
where humans swim. In Jurassic Park, animals that became extinct millions of years ago, dinosaurs,
also find themselves in unnatural environment occupied by humans. I want to compare these two
movies because I enjoy action movies and thrillers. Also they were both made before I was born
and I have only seen them now for the first time. Both movies hold the audience attention from the
very beginning and you feel yourself going through the emotions that the actors display. Steven
Spielberguses nature in both films as his theme to develop his story. In Jawsthere is a great white
shark that terrorizes a small island town and in Jurassic Park there are manufactured dinosaurs that
are developed out of altered DNA that terrorize an island that was to be a theme park.
In Jaws there is a large white shark who seems to be unstoppable. The movie begins with an
unsuspecting girl swimming when the shark comes up on her and kills her. From the moment the
movie begins the viewer knows who the villain is. The cast consists of Roy Schneider as Chief
Brody who struggles throughout the movie to do the right thing to save lives while the politicians
constantly interfere with his concern to prevent

Notes On The Stock Market
Rookie stock market investors are those who only possess a relatively rudimentary knowledge and
experience of the investing sphere. Most of these individuals usually commence by sticking to a
buy and hold trading strategy. As a beginner, your general experience in investment trading is very
limited. This, for the most part, confines you to making no more than a couple of trades perhaps on
a monthly basis from a cash account. However, this does not necessary signify that you have not
placed high expectations on your stock markettrading activities. You most likely are very
interested in expanding your knowledge as well as investment experience in order to realize the
objectives you may have set. This is all nice and good.
Nevertheless, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginners are normally successful during strong bull markets. But unfortunately find themselves
clueless when on tougher occasions, especially when market volatility is higher and bears happen
to rule. Well, if you deeply feel you fit this description to the T, here then are some stock market
basics for beginners, which could be useful.
Make it a point to set realistic trading objectives
Before you decide to make your very first investment, try to ask yourself the following questions.
At what point will you require the money you have invested? Will it be after 6 months, a year, 5
years or perhaps much longer? , Are you trying to lay a nest egg for your sunset years? , Are
seeking to obtain the necessary funds to finance your college education or perhaps seeking money
to buy a home? On the other hand, do wish to establish an estate that you want to leave for your
beneficiaries upon your demise?
Whichever the case, prior to making any stock market investment, you ought to fully determine
your primary driving motivation. When you have ascertained this critical point, next consider the
most likely time in the future you might stand in need of the funds you wish to invest. Should you
require your investment back within just a couple of years, then it will be much better to consider
another investment channel. It is very important for you to fully understand that the stock market
with its volatility can

The Identity Of A Woman Being At Home Taking Care Of The...
Introduction
In most historical situations we find ourselves studying the works of men in society and outcomes
of their conflicts, yet we undermine the influence of women due to the stereotypical idea of their
inferiority back then. This idea derives from the ideal identity of a woman being at home taking
care of the kids and looking after the home. However, taking a deeper look into historical event, the
role of women during these times play significant and revolutionary roles.
Looking at the identity of women in South Africa from the 1950 s 1970 s, we need to start at the
very beginning of the transformation.
Women realized during the times of apartheid that change for them did not mean common
mistreatment and oppression of men, however they saw it as an opportunity to liberate in race,
regardless of gender, and fight against the system of apartheid instead of just fighting for women s
rights .
Women have always been involved in all kinds of societies in South Africa such as liberation
movements and trade union movements which is where women first rose to positions of importance.
Anti pass campaign
From 1950 1932 women during apartheid feared the great inflow of apartheids control measures
and pass laws. In 1952 it was the native Amendment Act that made it an offence for any African to
be in any urban are for more than a set amount of 72 hours unless they have necessary
documentation. In the same year the Natives Abolition of Passes and Coordination of

Tangerine Archetype Analysis
Young children used to play with toys called Transformers, but little do people know that
transformers are actually shapeshifters. Shapeshifters are people that can change the way they
look like or act toward others. In Edward Bloor s novel Tangerine, Joey Costello proves to be the
mythological archetype of the shapeshifter in three ways. First, Joey Costello is the shapeshifter to
Paul (the hero) because he is bewilderingly changeable. When people are bewilderingly changeable
they change how they act towards others. For instance, during Joey s few days at TangerineMiddle,
he was mad because he was being picked on by Tino. Joey said, I can t believe I let you talk me

Joey says, This is how you get by here right? You kiss up to these guys? You re scared of these guys
(154)? Joey says this because he does not see how anyone could stand these guys picking on and
calling them name. When Joey says, You kiss up to these guys? He is basically saying that Paul
does whatever Tino and the gang say. Here Joey makes us doubt if he is really Paul s friend. If you
think about it the real reason he says this is that he basically hates Tino and his gang. Likewise,
since he s mad, he starts saying really rude comments he might regret later. Similar to what he said
earlier, he snaps and yells at Paul again. In science class while working on their project, Joey
snapped and took his anger out on Paul after Tino jumped at him. Joey said, You re a gutless
wonder, Fisher You re afraid of girls. You re afraid of your own brother. Now you re afraid of these
lowlifes. They treat you like a dog, and you take it! Take it? You like it! You think they re your
friends (154)! After Joey makes Tino made at him, he snaps at Paul because he let Paul talk him
into coming to Tangerine. When Joey calls Paul a Gutless wonder he means that he does not stand
up for himself when Tino or anyone is picking on him. When Joey said, They treat you like a dog.
He means that they kick and push him around and that he does not do anything about it. When Joey

The Power of the Individual Revealed in The Fountainhead...
The Power of the Individual Revealed in The Fountainhead
The Fountainhead provided and continues to provide a powerful inspiration to the individualist
movement in America, and throughout the world. More than any other single work, The
Fountainhead revived popular enthusiasm for a way of thinking, and a way of life, that in 1943 was
regarded by virtually every sector of intellectual opinion as outmoded. Ayn Rand s courageous
challenge to accepted ideas was rendered still more courageous by her willingness to state her
individualist premises in the clearest terms and to defend the most radical implications that could
be drawn from them.

advice about what one should do when love conflicts with work the episode is somewhat over
specific, to say the least.... Treated as a symbol, however, Howard s seeming abandonment of

The meaning of the episode is further emphasized by its integration with all the other symbolic
episodes in the novel in which Roark refuses to exalt the Other above the Self. One of the most
memorable of these episodes is a scene that might be called the Meeting of the Antipodes. Roark,
the individualist hero, and Ellsworth Toohey, the collectivist villain who for hundreds of pages
has been plotting against Roark and everything that Roark symbolizes, are finally brought
together for a conversation. It is Toohey, not Roark, who feels the need to talk, so we have not
just ideological conflict but the psychological conflict that underlies it: it is Toohey not Roark who
needs to talk to others, to discover their opinions, to know precisely how cruelly he has wounded
them and how much hatred they bear for him as a result. Toohey urges Roark to say what he thinks
of him.

Food Deserts Essay
Hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans live in what s known as a food desert. A food desert is in
an area of focus that is short on access to fresh meat and produce. These areas are usually over
populated with packaged and processed foods, which are not always healthy. They also have a
significant amount junk that you can easily find in convenience stores and fast foodrestaurants.
What exactly qualifies a neighborhood to be part of a food desert? Food deserts usually have a
bunch of blocks without a corner grocery store. In a more severe case an entire neighborhood, or
a whole bunch of neighborhoods do not have a mainstream grocery store. A mainstream grocery

Virtua healthcare system has four branches of the hospital located throughout New Jersey. New
Jersey is a very large state and often could not meet the needs of the community for ambulatory
services and others. Hence, many of the patients would travel to Philadelphia for comprehension or
ambulatory care. This new renovation will allow patients to remain in the comfort of their area.
Southern New Jersey population has grown to over 40 percent over this decade alone.
Immigrants have been finding jobs and establishing residency for years. Since 2000 Southern
New Jersey foreign born population is increasing according to the U.S. Census and America
Survey data. The Press of Atlantic City analyzed census data on foreign born residents for 69
municipalities in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and southern Ocean counties. In 2000, there
were 45,479 foreign born people in the region. That number has since grown to 63,558, an
increase of 18,059. As a percent of the population, the foreign born has increased regionally from 7
percent to 9 percent, Press analysis shows (Lemongello, S. 2011).
Conclusion
This paper informed us on the necessity of the need for Southern New Jersey ambulatory care

Extraction and Characterization of Proteins
EXTRACTION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF PROTEINS Abstract Different techniques and
principles for protein extraction and characterization were demonstrated in this experiment.
Various proteins were extracted from different sources: 1.67 g yeast invertase, 1.03 g egg white
albumin, and 5.15 g of milk casein. Activity assay for invertase was performed using Benedict s
test and the enzymes inverting action on sucrose was confirmed. Warburg Christian Method and
Bradford Assay were also employed to determine the protein concentration in the albumin and the
casein samples. The concentrations for the albumin and casein samples were found to be 0.519

As a result, the interactions between protein molecules exceed protein water interactions, and the
solubility decreases. Moreover, the differences in the amino acid sequence makes proteins differ
in their salting in and salting out behavior. This is the basis for the fractional precipitation of
proteins by means of salt. Most commonly used salt is ammonium sulfate because it is available
in highly purified form and because of its high solubility. (Boyer, 2000) Proteins can also be
fractionally precipitated by adjusting the pH, temperature and dielectric constant. Variations in pH
also change the state of ionization of the functional groups, and hence, the net charge of the
protein. Usually, the protein s solubility is at its least at the isoelectric point pI and increases on
either side of the pI. At the pI, the net charge of the protein is zero and the protein molecules do
not repel each other. As a result, protein protein interactions are increased and the solubility is at its
lowest. (Boyer, 2000) Meanwhile, if temperature is increased denatures the proteins. Proteins then
unfold and the non polar groups which were previously in the interior of the molecule become
exposed. This leads to a decrease in the solubility of the protein in aqueous environment. Addition of
ethanol, methanol, acetone and the like decreases the dielectric constant and thus decreases protein
s solubility. (Boyer, 2000) The

Mammoth Cave is found in Mammoth Cave National Park that was founded in 1941. Currently, it

Odours And Memory Lab Report
The results of the experiment does not support the hypothesis that odours can improve memory
and increase perceived alertness in individuals as there appears to be no correlation. ylang ylang
has been proven to have sedative and claming properties (Tisserand, 1993). Additionally,
peppermint was shown to produce a significant improvement in the quality of memory when
compared to the control and ylang ylang group (Moss et al., 2008). However, our results do not
seem support past research done on such matters. Several confounding variables identified could
be the reason for this incongruity. First, the way the odors were introduced into the room is done
differently with past research and with this experiment. Moss et al. (2008) applied 4 drops of the
odours to a diffuser pad for a Tisserand Aroma steam . The Aroma steam was placed under the

In this experiment, odours were sprayed into the testing rooms. Such differences in the method of
introducing the odours might affect the results. Another confounding variable could be the room
size. The size of a room will affect the diffusion of the odour and in turn, affect the extent
participants are affected. In Moss et al. s (2008) study, each testing cubicle measured 2.4m long x
1.8m wide x 2.4 m high. The room size for Ilmberger et al. was not mentioned. To add, no

Axeon Case Study Essay
In my point of view, the problem from this case is whether Axeon NV pursue constructing the new
manufacturing plant in the UK or manufacture the product (AR 42) in its existing plant in
Netherland. This problem arises from the the proposal from UK Subsidiary (Hollandsworth) that
become a matter of controversy as its projected profitability is questioned by managementat Axeon
s headquarter. I analyze that there are three issues from this case: (1). Decentralization, since Axeon
allows its subsidiaries manager considerable autonomy regarding what products to sell in their
territories, however, in this case, Hollandsworth s proposal seems to be rejected by Axeon, (2).
Management behavior issues, facts in the case suggested that Mr van Leuven... Show more content

Some calculation that I analyze are: (1) the proposal plant depreciation that is too fast (annual
depreciation should be 52,000 instead of 280,000); (2) the calculation of Net Present Value of
future cash flow use 8% loan interest instead of the company s required rate of return 12%.
Moreover, I think there are benefits and drawbacks whether building the new plant in the UK or
maximize the capacity of Dutch s plant in producing additional product. Building new plant in the
UK is a way to finance and support of the UK board members, it will open new jobs and a greater
image of the company in England and this product will be still profitable after 7 years. On the other
hand, manufacturing the product in Netherland would be more profitable and less investment since
Axeon does not need to take a bank loan, a longer production runs, a lower set up costs and a larger
raw material, also market penetration still possible in the Netherland. However, there is a
possibility that Hollandsworth s manager enthusiasm and initiative are bound to suffer since Ian
(the manager) felt that he has less autonomy than before. Additionally, Hollandsworth might think
that Axeon want to monopoly the AR 42

Addiction, one of America s number one problems, and when it seems that we ve solved it, it
always seems to rear its ugly head back in some other form. This could be due to the fact the
internet is making a newer class of synthetic designer drugs much more available. (Mycyk, 2012)
Synthetic drugs have been a consistent and ongoing problem for our nation over the past few
years since their creation and introduction to the world. Every day, we see more and more people
hospitalized due to use of synthetic drugs, and the addictive behaviors they creates with in people.
Even with the bans that the Food and Drug Administration have passed on them, we see people

To find this information, it is often necessary to access the partnerships general ledger and evaluate
the contributions that were made during the year. The general ledger is also helpful in discerning
the nature of certain vague account titles such as building improvements. When determining how
these assets should be depreciated for tax purposes, the general ledger provides adequate detail to
determine the appropriate MACRS recovery period.
After the client provided trial balance has been reformatted and its accounts have been made more
specific, I often have to perform an accrual to cash conversion. This is because the clients books
are kept on an accrual basis but their returns are prepared under the cash basis method of
accounting. Therefore, because the cash method only reflects transactions for which cash was paid
or received in the current period, accounts such as accrued expenses, accounts payable, and prepaid
rent cannot be included on the return. Therefore is necessary to make adjustments to the trial
balance before it is imported into the tax software. For example, to remove accounts receivable
from the trial balance before I import it, I would credit accounts receivable and debit revenue. Once
all accrual accounts have been reversed out, I use the newly created tax trial balance to complete the
actual return.
Once the return is completed and deemed correct, I then update the basis schedules for each

However, if an employee chooses to decorate his or her own workspace according to his or her

Pros And Cons Of Slavery 1800s
Slavery. A topic that should never be brought up in a conversation, should never be said casually,
and should never happen. Slavery, despite being illegal in every country, is still going on, and at
different odds. Slavery has many forms. Many of which, only the cruelest of minds can think up.
Slavery is different than in the 1800s because it has many more forms, has more potential slaves,
and more profit.
There are many types of slavery. The most common for the 1800s is forced labor, which in the
1800s, was longterm, no pay, bad conditions. Forced labor is physical, forcing them to work for
hours on end, and beaten into submission. There is also forced marriage, sex trafficking, and
child labor, the most cruel. Slaves under 18 take up 30% of the whole slave population, and is

Ford Of The Automobile Industry
Introduction
Ford was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated in June 16, 1903. Ford is famously known for
popularizing the assembly line with the production of the T Model Ford. In addition to the Ford
brand, the corporation also includes their luxury vehicle line Lincoln. From 1938 2011 Mercury
was also a part of the Ford fleet of cars. During the financial crisis of 2009, Ford was one of the
few American car companies that avoided bankruptcy. They have since grown to be the second
largest U.S. based car manufacturer, and the fifth largest in Europe.
Industry and Customer Value
The customer base for automobiles is diverse and has different requirements and desires for
automobiles. The auto industry has recognized these requirements and desires and manufactures
various models to accommodate the customers. Ford is a true innovator in the automobile industry.
They have made such headway mainly because they figured out to mass produce their cars quickly,
thereby making it affordable to the customer base. Ford has made great strides in rebranding what
value means to their customer. There are several factors that customers deem valuable when
selecting a Ford automobile:
Price Although Ford produces a range of affordable automobiles suitable for every customer, one
thing that Ford has done is officially lower the recommended price list on all of its medium and
small cars.

File Naming Conventions
Naming records in a consistent and predictable manner will distinguish similar files/records at a

good file naming convention can help you to stay organized by making file identification easier

Leonid Brezhnev and Mikhail Gorbachev were Soviet leaders in the late 1900s. They had

about communist countries because the Soviet Union had the right to intervene if communism was
threatened in other communist state. On the other hand, Gorbachev had no intention in communist
countries. A foreign policy under Gorbachev was not very strong. However, the economy in the
Soviet Union under both Brezhnev and Gorbachev was bad. According to Brezhnev, the
government s central planning led to a huge and complex bureaucracy, collective farmers had no

The author, Julia Galeota makes three points against cultural imperialism in her essay. The first
point is that many cultures are disappearing due to the overwhelming influence of American
tradition. I refute to this statement because they are just smaller and less influential than American
culture. It is quite exaggerated to say that other cultures are disappearing. For instance, four years
ago, a Korean song called Gangnam Style struck the whole world with its catchy rhythm, dance and
funny music video. It even took second on the Billboard. This shows that other cultures still have a
chance to beat American culture. American culture never stopped other cultures to spread or stand

Compressing, Transferring and Storing Audio Data
Today s most popular solution for compressing, transferring and storing audio data is MP3
technology. There are similar technologies for sampling and compressing audio data but MP3
remains the most popular because it is versatile, high performing and flexible. MP3 as we know it
today, is the product of collaborations through the years by many organizations. If we had to narrow
down the most important people involved in it s development, the two most important names would
be Dieter Seitzer and Karlheinz Bradenburg. Initially, in the 1970s, Dieter Seitzer, a professor from
Erlangen Nuremberg University was researching the problem of compressing audio data for
telephone line transmission. He brought together a group of students as well as other scientists to
do research and solve this challenge. One of his students , named Karlheinz Bradenburg, proposed
an idea of exploiting the mechanism of human hearing and its limitations. Later on, in his doctoral
theses, Karlheinz Bradenburg included algorithms that were later incorporated in todays MP3
technology. Most importantly were his method of scanning and removing sounds that were in
audible to humans. In 1988 the ISO convened and called for a standard in audio and video
encoding. This call created the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). Contributions to the group
came from various corporations, research organizations and individual scientists. This increase of
contributions and collaboration from members of the MPEG

Galen Of Pergamon Research Paper
Galen of Pergamon: Ancient Greek Physician and Philosopher Considered one of the greatest
minds in Medicine, and the Philosophy of Medicine since history was recorded, Galen of
Pergamon remains to this day one of the most profound physicians, and medical researchers that
lived. We know this, because of his massive account of everything, he at times had anywhere from
10 20 scribes writing down all of his ideas and theories as well as his thoughts and findings during
the many surgical procedures he undertook. His surviving writings make up about half of all
ancient writings on medicine today (Agita) Although Galen philosophised frequently he never
viewed himself as a Philosopher, in fact he held hostility towards some of the Philosophers of...

The general consensus among scientists was that when the blood traveled through your body it
was one way and used up. Galen agreed and developed the theory to new extremes he stated that
there must be different types of blood and blood vessels, two separate pathways for two separate
types of blood that ran one way, that was regenerated in their corresponding organs of origin.
Galen was so ahead of his time he theorized that there was venous blood which was very dark that
originated in the liver and arterial blood which was very bright must come from the heart. He did
not know at the time that alveolar exchange and therefore oxygenation was responsible for the
visual differences. He also, by frequent vivisection and dissection, distinguished some seven pairs

Online Fandom Community Analysis
One of the things I am most interested in is the communities that form online and the way they are
used to shape information. Fandoms, the collective fans of a particular work regarded collectively
as a group, are one such community. As a fan, I want to what study what makes online fandom
communities unique. Who makes up the online fandom communities and how do they use fandom.
Often online fans and fandom in general are often viewed as purely based on obsessive
consumption of a media. However I experience them in most cases as intensely creative, highly
informed and extremely critical people. It is all of these things together that creates communities
that trade and thrive on fanworks. Fanworks take some element of a cannon work, the characters,...

that fanworks considered feminine creative works like crafts, fanfiction, costumes and fanart are

male fan experience is very different from the female fan

Passive Ball Sorter
1.The design objective is to construct a passive ball sorter in groups of two people that will sort
hollow practice golf balls from golf balls into separate bins.
2.The goal for the passive ball sorter is to sort hollow practice golf balls from golf balls into
separate bins. There is a total of seven balls that need to be sorted correctly to receive the points
in that category. The balls will be released from a tube at an angle of approximately 30 degrees.
The constraints of the passive ball sorter are the following: no electric motors or gas engine, no
electronics of any type, made from reasonable household recycled materials only, should fit inside
a 1ft x 1ft x 2ft box, and maintain purchases below $5 for supplies.
3.I began my research for information about passive ball sorters on YouTube. I came across
tutorials on how to build such a passive ball sorter made from recycled materials found around
the home. I saw videos where different techniques such as bounce and roll were demonstrated.
One example had the balls bounce off rubber bands into separate bins. The other example had the
balls roll down cardboard paths which would separate the balls into separate bins. These two ideas
were a start in the right direction; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Deal Made Between The Devil And Dr. Faustus Was Sprouted
The deal made between the devil and Dr. Faustus was sprouted by Faustus inability to believe God
loved him and his rejection of all Christian values. Faustus assumes he can control the devil, but no
one can resist being corrupted by the devil and the powers he has. Although Faustus had numerous
opportunities to turn back and seek redemption, he was dominated by his desire to know and learn
beyond his boundaries. The deal truly isn t beneficial for Faustus after considering the exact nature
of their agreement and he was cautioned against the bargain, showing him the fate that a deal with

While Faustus demands power, Mephostophilis is miserable in hell and wants Faustus s soul where
the two make an unfair bargain. Before Doctor Faustus writes the contract for the deal, in his own
blood, Mephostophilis gives him his last chance to change his mind, which is when Faustus
decides to continue with the deal. After the contract is written, Faustus asks Mephostophilis to
bring him a wife, wealth and super powers. While Faustus believes that Mephostophilis will be his
servant for the next 24 years before selling his soul, it soon becomes known that it is Faustus who
is the servant to Lucifer and his devil friends.
Faustus believes that he will come out on top in the deal even if it means eternal punishment in the
end. He puts his temporary pleasures before his fate which shows how impatient and unhappy he
really is. Even when God reaches out to Faustus through the Good Angel , Faustus puts all his
trust into Lucifer. He says, When Mephostophilis shall stand by me, What God can hurt thee,
Faustus? Thou art safe (Act 1 Scene 5. Lines 24 25). Faustus clearly does not value his own soul
and does not reflect on why the devil would want it. Dr. Faustus is deceived about what making a
deal with the devil will encompass. He tells Mephostophilis, Had I as many souls as there be stars,
I d give them all for Mephostophilis. By him I ll be great emperor of the world (Act 1 Scene 3.

Prozac Case Studies
Whilst taking upon conventional medicines, in most cases, there are side effects, which can be
unwanted. Depending on the dosage or type of medication that is given, symptoms can vary, they
can cause allergic reactions, hallucinations, nausea etc. In this section I will be explaining
conventional medicine that are used widely and the side effects they cause. Prozac (anti
depressant) This treatment is targeted for individuals who suffer from depression, bulimia,
obsessive compulsive disorders and panic disorders. Prozac is sometimes used together with
another medication called olanzapine (Zyprexa). to treat depression caused by bipolar disorder
(manic depression). This combination is also used to treat depression after at least 2 other

hyperthermia, high body temperature and increased heart rate that can lead to shock. Prozac can
be accessed over counter with prescriptions given by the NHS or private surgeries. They can also
be bought online or in supermarkets. Pencillin (anti biotic) This conventional medicine is used to
fight off bacteria in the body. The antibiotic is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria
such as pneumonia, scarlet fever, and ear, skin, and throat infections. It also is used to prevent
recurrent rheumatic fever and chorea. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral
infections. Just like any conventional treatment, Pencillin also have side effects, but you should

Nations See Dramatic Decline in Fertility
Over the past half century, almost every nation has seen a dramatic fall in their fertility rates.
Population regulation differs through out the world based on the particular region. Populations can
stabilize through a variety of factors including modern communications, growing affluence,
urbanization, family planning and social reforms (Cunningham, 2013). China and the Indian state
of Kerala are examples of two very different methods to controlling populationexpansion. In the
past twenty years, total fertility dropped by more than half in China (Cunningham, 2013). The
Chinese regulations in place focus more on birth control rather then new social equality. This
strategy depends on strongly enforced policies set by the government, determining how many
children a Chinese family can produce. Chinese law provides a compulsory limit on reproduction
that is punishable by law if an individual exceeds the limits set. The strategy of strict laws with
penalization is also combined with an economic incentive for reducing births. A very different
strategy regarding population stabilization can be seen in Kerala, India. It involves a social justice
strategy that believes social benefits as the solution to family planning. This strategy is based on
the assumption that unequal resource allocation is the main problem that leads to a high
population in developing countries (Cunningham, 2013). In Kerala, providing a fair share of social
benefits to everyone is seen as the key to family

Tornado Forecasts
Currently, the development of spotter networks and conversion radar are use for identification of
tornadoes (Coleman et al. 2011). In developed countries, the use of weather radars have become the
primary method for the identification of tornadoes. The Doppler weather radar is used in the United
States, this system takes measurements of velocity and the radial direction of the storm(Coleman et
al. 2011). New technology development has lead to forecasts of tornadoes before they have made
contact with the ground.
Currently the average tornado warning lead time is 13 minutes (Brotzge Erickson, 2009). Tornado
forecasts are still unreliable, most warnings are not broadcasted when the tornado is forming or has
formed (Brotzge Erickson, 2009). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2008, 3 out of every 4 tornado warnings that were issued were false alarms (Brotzge et al.
2011). False alarm ratios are highest during non peak storm periods and lowest during storm times
and days. In a 24 hour period they are highest overnight and morning hours and lowest in the late
afternoon (Brotzge et al. 2011). Seasonally they are highest December February and late summer,
August and lowest all the other months (Brotzge et al. 2011). Tornado information has increased
since the amount of research has been recorded and analyzed. However, there is more
improvements that are needed to fully predict tornadoes that could have the potential to destroy
large areas.
Conclusion:
Although meteorologist hardly acknowledge that their forecasts are not completely accurate, it is
clear that without them the amount of harm would be great. The information of a possible tornado
formation helps the public become prepared to the possibility of a tornado. Tornadoes warning
systems have come a long way from the days where they were inaccurate and unreliable. Lead
times have increased and are becoming more reliable. However, more sensitive technology is
needed until forecasts can become more

Advantages Of An Eco-Friendly Dormitel
In spite of all the good benefits that they can get in constructing an eco friendly dormitel, there are
also some drawbacks that they should consider. These problems may affect the decision of the
people who would want to invest in this kind of business.
According to (Joseph, ND) says when switching to solar power will be costly to install solar
panels at business facilities. It is not always enough that going green can reduce expenses to
balance the initial upfront conversion cost. Also, using green materials can be more expensive for
investors. According to John Kaplan, owner of Green Cabinetry, he must get his building materials
from West Coast and Asia which leads to higher prices for the consumers.
With that, investors may think that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with that issue, availability of the materials could affect also its budget. Stated above, it
needs to travel from different place to another place that may cost more at a higher price. Further,
construction of an eco friendly dormitel takes much time. According to (Lake,
ND) says it may be difficult to look for something in the midst of all the things where they do not
need most of it. Thus, finding such resources will definitely demand as an extra time. It will be a
disadvantage especially to some green building projects that encourage the recycling of materials
that were thrown yet still useful and the location of materials needed. This might be a problem that
the people who would want to do this kind of project may doubt because of the materials needed
and are demanded in the business.
In line with this, as stated by (Morgan, ND) says in developing green business, it can be timely
because it needs time to find the best ways in order to achieve the green environment of the
business. More to that, they also need time to find the best source of materials to make it green.
That is why being timely is an issue because of the process in adopting the green

The Godfather Sociology
The Godfather is an interesting and moving film with everything from family disputes to
organized criminal activity. This movie is rated R and should be seen in the absence of children.
The Godfather shows how close organized crime families are and they would do anything to
protect them. This movie takes place in the 40 s and 50 s in New York. Marlon Brando portrays
Vito Corleone, also known as the Godfather. Al Pacino portrays Michael Corleone, Vito s youngest
son. The Godfather was inducted to the National Film Registry in 1990 (Library of Congress). In

Michael, being a college, World War II hero, he tests his strength and cunning to avenge his
father s near murder. The Corleone family has the drive for revenge, the need for respect and
demand for justice. The eldest son, Sonny, (played by James Caan) and Michael had very
different views on how the family should be ran. Sonny wanted to get the family out and go
after the other families, while Michael wanted to play it low key and continue business how the
Godfather would have wanted it. The primary business that the Corleone family was involved in
was gambling and unions. Other families felt rejected when Don Vito Corleone declined to enter
the drug business saying that it was a dirty business . A man who doesn t spend time with his
family can never be called a man (Don Vito Corleone). This line hit home for me because my job
keeps me away from my family for 24 hours at a time.
This movie also shows how a family of immigrants could create a life in America by creating an
empire of crime. Another point this movie proved was that money talks. With money and power,
you can get anything you want. During the making of The Godfather, the Italian American Civil
Rights League organized protests, because it felt that the film would only reinforce the Italian
equals mobster stereotype. And, to some extent, of course, it did (Gambino). Approximately

Wireless Sensor Networks Are Used For Detecting The...
Natural disasters have become very critical due to several reasons like global warming. Wireless
sensor networks are used for detecting the natural events by measuring the temperature, air pressure,

impactful if it weren t for all those sentimental memories and emotions that come with it. It s
necessary to sometimes remember the happy times lived before the loss, to slowly fill up the hole
that it created in the heart. It s true, losing something is rarely anything to be happy about, but if

Now that I have shared a brief overview of the spinal cord and some statistics about spinal cord injuries, we will look at the past research that has led to the treatments most commonly used today. In 1990, a steroid called dexamethasone was discovered in human trials to preserve some motor and sensory function if administered at high doses within 8 hours of injury. Surgery used to remove fluid, tissue, or bone fragments, or to stabilize fractured vertebrae by fusing bones or inserting hardware has also proven to be one of the most thorough measures to prevent further harm. I received both of these treatments after my accident, and they are the same that have been used for the past decade. Until recently, doctors had no way of limiting such disabilities, aside from stabilizing the cord to prevent added destruction, treating infections, and prescribing rehabilitative therapy to maximize any remaining capabilities. Within the past few years, however, scientists have made many new advancements. The United States Food and Drug Administration has approved 2 electronic systems that regulate muscles by sending electrical signals through implanted wires, called functional electrical stimulation (FES). Yet as she stood before him breathlessly admiring his brilliant jade orbs, the young woman had forgotten the purpose of her venture into London s East End. In that same moment, she was awestruck with this stranger and much like the Grimm fairy tales she had adored reading as a youth, she felt as if she had been dropped into her own gothic tale. • 9. Steven Spielberg s Jaws And Jurassic Park Steven Spielberg is a director who has made many movies including Jaws (1975) and Jurassic Park (1993). Both Jaws and Jurassic Park show animals behaving in the way that nature intended them to behave. However, in Jaws the animal finds himself trapped in an unnatural environment, an inlet where humans swim. In Jurassic Park, animals that became extinct millions of years ago, dinosaurs, also find themselves in unnatural environment occupied by humans. I want to compare these two movies because I enjoy action movies and thrillers. Also they were both made before I was born and I have only seen them now for the first time. Both movies hold the audience attention from the very beginning and you feel yourself going through the emotions that the actors display. Steven Spielberguses nature in both films as his theme to develop his story. In Jawsthere is a great white shark that terrorizes a small island town and in Jurassic Park there are manufactured dinosaurs that are developed out of altered DNA that terrorize an island that was to be a theme park. In Jaws there is a large white shark who seems to be unstoppable. The movie begins with an unsuspecting girl swimming when the shark comes up on her and kills her. Most of these individuals usually commence by sticking to a buy and hold trading strategy. As a beginner, your general experience in investment trading is very limited. This, for the most part, confines you to making no more than a couple of trades perhaps on a monthly basis from a cash account. However, this does not necessary signify that you have not placed high expectations on your stock markettrading activities. Well, if you deeply feel you fit this description to the T, here then are some stock market basics for beginners, which could be useful. Make it a point to set realistic trading objectives Before you decide to make your very first investment, try to ask yourself the following questions. At what point will you require the money you have invested? Will it be after 6 months, a year, 5 years or perhaps much longer? , Are you trying to lay a nest egg for your sunset years? , Are seeking to obtain the necessary funds to finance your college education or perhaps seeking money to buy a home? On the other hand, do wish to establish an estate that you want to leave for your beneficiaries upon your demise? Whichever the case, prior to making any stock market investment, you ought to fully determine your primary driving motivation. When you have ascertained this critical point, next consider the most likely time in the future you might stand in need of the funds you wish to invest. Should you require your investment back within just a couple of years, then it will be much better to consider another investment channel. • 11. The Identity Of A Woman Being At Home Taking Care Of The... Introduction In most historical situations we find ourselves studying the works of men in society and outcomes of their conflicts, yet we undermine the influence of women due to the stereotypical idea of their inferiority back then. This idea derives from the ideal identity of a woman being at home taking care of the kids and looking after the home. However, taking a deeper look into historical event, the role of women during these times play significant and revolutionary roles. Looking at the identity of women in South Africa from the 1950 s 1970 s, we need to start at the very beginning of the transformation. The town is located only about 10 miles from the capital of France; Paris. Louis XIII first took appreciation to the land when he decided to build a small building in the town of Versailles. This building was primarily used by the king and his family for hunting parties and private get aways for Louis XIII and his family. The building that stood at Versailles got a major renovation when in 1661 Louis XIV decided to turn the quaint hunting lodge into a sprawling estate fit for a king. Shapeshifters are people that can change the way they look like or act toward others. In Edward Bloor s novel Tangerine, Joey Costello proves to be the mythological archetype of the shapeshifter in three ways. First, Joey Costello is the shapeshifter to Paul (the hero) because he is bewilderingly changeable. When people are bewilderingly changeable they change how they act towards others. If you think about it the real reason he says this is that he basically hates Tino and his gang. Likewise, since he s mad, he starts saying really rude comments he might regret later. Similar to what he said earlier, he snaps and yells at Paul again. In science class while working on their project, Joey snapped and took his anger out on Paul after Tino jumped at him. Joey said, You re a gutless wonder, Fisher You re afraid of girls. You re afraid of your own brother. Now you re afraid of these lowlifes. They treat you like a dog, and you take it! Take it? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, the interactions between protein molecules exceed protein water interactions, and the solubility decreases. Moreover, the differences in the amino acid sequence makes proteins differ in their salting in and salting out behavior. This is the basis for the fractional precipitation of proteins by means of salt. Most commonly used salt is ammonium sulfate because it is available in highly purified form and because of its high solubility. (Boyer, 2000) Proteins can also be fractionally precipitated by adjusting the pH, temperature and dielectric constant. Variations in pH also change the state of ionization of the functional groups, and hence, the net charge of the protein. Usually, the protein s solubility is at its least at the isoelectric point pI and increases on either side of the pI. At the pI, the net charge of the protein is zero and the protein molecules do not repel each other. As a result, protein protein interactions are increased and the solubility is at its lowest. (Boyer, 2000) Meanwhile, if temperature is increased denatures the proteins. Proteins then unfold and the non polar groups which were previously in the interior of the molecule become exposed. This leads to a decrease in the solubility of the protein in aqueous environment. Addition of ethanol, methanol, acetone and the like decreases the dielectric constant and thus decreases protein s solubility. (Boyer, 2000) The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are similar technologies for sampling and compressing audio data but MP3 remains the most popular because it is versatile, high performing and flexible. MP3 as we know it today, is the product of collaborations through the years by many organizations. If we had to narrow down the most important people involved in it s development, the two most important names would be Dieter Seitzer and Karlheinz Bradenburg. Initially, in the 1970s, Dieter Seitzer, a professor from Erlangen Nuremberg University was researching the problem of compressing audio data for telephone line transmission. He brought together a group of students as well as other scientists to do research and solve this challenge. One of his students , named Karlheinz Bradenburg, proposed an idea of exploiting the mechanism of human hearing and its limitations. Later on, in his doctoral theses, Karlheinz Bradenburg included algorithms that were later incorporated in todays MP3 technology. Most importantly were his method of scanning and removing sounds that were in audible to humans. In 1988 the ISO convened and called for a standard in audio and video encoding. Population regulation differs through out the world based on the particular region. Populations can stabilize through a variety of factors including modern communications, growing affluence, urbanization, family planning and social reforms (Cunningham, 2013). China and the Indian state of Kerala are examples of two very different methods to controlling populationexpansion. In the past twenty years, total fertility dropped by more than half in China (Cunningham, 2013). The Chinese regulations in place focus more on birth control rather then new social equality. This strategy depends on strongly enforced policies set by the government, determining how many children a Chinese family can produce. Chinese law provides a compulsory limit on reproduction that is punishable by law if an individual exceeds the limits set. The strategy of strict laws with penalization is also combined with an economic incentive for reducing births. A very different strategy regarding population stabilization can be seen in Kerala, India. It involves a social justice strategy that believes social benefits as the solution to family planning.
