About Us
• SmartCatalog is an academic content management system that
helps client institutions manage catalogs, curriculum and syllabi.
• SmartCatalog builds, maintains and hosts a relational database
of academic content, including program and degree
requirements for each client.
• Additionally, SmartCatalogs include detailed descriptions of
General Education/CORE requirements which are key to
understanding the value and depth of a credential.

The Problem 1
• When students and other stakeholders are comparing program
requirements they must navigate into each individual college
website and from there, they must dig into the catalog to find
the official requirements for each program.
• The Credentials Engine makes it possible for users to see and
compare program requirements from multiple institutions and
determine which is most realistic for them.

• When institutions elect to include their credentials in the CE,
they must type them in manually. This is very time-consuming.
• Program Requirements are modified every year. In order to
keep it current, program requirements must be re-entered each
year.

Our Proposed Solution
• SmartCatalog proposes to create an upload of program
requirements information from our catalog databases to the
Credentials Engine.
• The upload will be repeatable so that whenever program
requirements are updated and approved, the user can upload
them to CE programmatically.
• The upload will come directly from the academic catalog
database for each participating college and go to the
Credentials Engine in JSON.

• Using a programmatic approach to entering data into the
Credential Engine assures accuracy and consistency with
campus decisions.
• An automatic upload to CE means the system can be updated
annually as program requirements are modified.
• Automatic uploads relieve campus staff from manually inputting
